(price subject to change: see help)

    Editorial Review

The design of this pad makes a changing table a lot safer for awiggly baby. About 1.5 inches thick in the middle, it rises to fully4.25 inches high at the sides, making it almost impossible to roll off. There's also the standard nylon strap (with plastic snap-togetherbuckle) across the middle. Two securing tabs mean the pad can be nailedor screwed in place on a changing table made of wood or a similarmaterial. The bottom surface of the pad is stiffened with an interiorboard and foam-covered on the outside so that it's nonslip. The topsurface, quilted in a rose pattern, can be wiped clean. --RichardFarr ... Editorial Review

The Diaper Genie is one of this decade's most talked-about babyitems. By providing a convenient, sanitary storage container for yourdirty diapers, the Diaper Genie will help you keep your nursery andchanging table neat, organized, and odor free. The Wide Opening DiaperGenie employs a simple yet effective Twistaway disposal system: justlift up the childproof safety lid, push a dirty diaper into the wideopening, and twist the inner rim to seal the diaper in a fragrant, plastic barrier. The lightweight unit uses blue, wide opening DiaperGenie refills only (original Diaper Genie refills will not fit), andyou can fit up to 25 medium-size diapers into the Genie at one time.Along with its compact size (19.5 inches high), one nice advantage ofthe Genie is that you don't have to empty it over a garbage can. Whenit is full you can just unlatch the bottom of the Genie, pull out theshort train of wrapped diapers, and take it out to the garbage canwithout making a mess. Ocean Wonders Aquarium - Cradle Swing
    Baby Product (19 November, 2003)
    list price: $99.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Babies can’t scuba dive, but here’s the next best thing. This entertaining ocean-themed swing is sure to delight babies and possibly give parents a little bit of a breather. It’s done up in a blue bubbly design that manages to be both soothing and festive and, yes, that combination is exactly what you want in a swing. But while the aquatic angle is fun, what’s really impressive about this swing is its variety: it features eight swing levels, five volume settings on various musical or nature sounds, and even a light display. A toy bar with little fishes rounds out the ensemble. Overall, this swing is a great way for baby to stay occupied without getting wet. --John Moe ... Read more

    Fishy Fun Cri B Mirror
    Toy

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

This big, colorful mirror attaches to the crib railing, either at baby's eye level or above the bumper, to give baby a terrific view of her own fascinating face. The durable plastic mirror is surrounded by a soft-fabric frame that has bright, high-contrast patterns designed to stimulate visual development. To help enhance fine motor skills there is a fish on the left side that can slide up and down and a sea horse on the right that has a curly tail just waiting to be pulled and stretched. At the bottom of the mirror is a clam shape filled with crinkly paper that plays peekaboo with the smiling pearl underneath it. The fabric frame is secured with Velcro, but can be removed for surface washing. --Pam Lauer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to Infants
We got this at a baby shower and it was a hit with the hostess's 2 month old.He stared and was so intrigued.
Now, my daughter loves looking in the mirror and 'talking' to herself and to the brightly colored turtle.
The different colors, sounds and textures have kept her interested.
It is easy to attach to the stroller or carrier. (Just not on the carrier's handle since it is big enough to whack her in the face.)
This is a practical toy that I will give out as gifts to friends expecting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Toy For Baby
A friend gave this to my daughter when she was 3 mos old.At that point, she had just discovered herself in the mirror, so the underside of this turtle (which is a mirror) was great for her to stare at herself. We hung it from the side of her bassinet. Now, at 5 mos old, she doesn't go anywhere without this turtle! She chews on it - it's great for teething - and she loves grabbing the feet, which make crackling noises. This is by far her favorite toy! I have given it to several friends for shower gifts.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Penny Turtle" good for infants
Our toddler, almost two, has completely lost interest in her turtle. She received it at 6 months from her aunt Penny, hence we always called it the Penny Turtle. Our daughter never was able to push the legs or head in, although she would watch me do it for her. When pushed in, it was also compact enough to fit in the bag, and the rings made it handy to attach to strollers. But it only caught her attention for a little less than a year. She prefers furry animals and rag dolls now. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toy!
I got this toy for my twin sons when they were about 3 months old, now they are 20 months and still love him! He attatches great to the front bar of my Twin Savvy. He makes alot of noises and still keeps them occupied. WE do have to rotate toys now that the twins are older and get bored easily, but Pupsqueak is a favorite! He withstands washings and teething, spit ups, and biting, and even attempts to drop him off the stroller! He makes a cute barking noise and he has alot of little things for a baby to teeth on and to look at. My sons like to fiddle with the rings and hold him, they enjoy listening to him and of course "eating" him. I am surprized in the durablility of all my Lamaze toys and I really didnt think that they would last this long! They are just wonderful! My sons get a kick out of pupsqeak and he really is captivating from birth to childhood, a great toy that will last for years!

5-0 out of 5 stars PUPSQUEAK!
Next to BR Max the monkey (also by Lamaze) and Zach's "lovey", pupsqueak is his favorite toy. Zach is four months old and really really loves pupsqueak. We use him to give variety to our son and Zach really loves him! If we make pupsqueak squeak, Zach goes into hysterics, and my 20 month old twins join in! ITs perfect for those really silent times when everyone needs a good laugh. Along with Max, pups (what we call him) is perfect for tummy time. Pups is also great for teathing, once Zach really starts getting those teeth in! Pups attatches well to almost anything, but my boistrus ball of fire gets so angrey and fustrated if we tether him to anything, he likes to hold him. Pups is very durable and has been easily spot cleaned and even in the wash! The colors are great for my son to stare at and he just loves him. I dont know what it is about Lamaze toys but they sure do put alot of thought into them to make them so gosh darn cute and interesting!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
I am dumbfounded. I have two sets of twins, 8 Month B/B and 3 year old B/G. ALL of them LOVE this toy. My older twins enjoy making him a "baby". And giving him kisses amd making him do all kinds of tricks. They could do this with almost anytoy, but the ADORE pupsqueak. That Said I have 2 others wich I gave to my boys. They LOOVVVEE him too! I was amazed. I dont know if its just because hes a dog, (their lovey toys are a black and white dog and a brown and white dog, and they love our boxer and golden retriever mix) or maybe its just because PUPSQUEAK ROCKS! They love it when I attatch him to their carseats, They just got "big boy" carseats and pupsqeak of course had to make the transition too! A few weeks ago we went on a 8 hour car ride, I know that my youngest twins stayed quite mostly because they were soooo comfy in their marathons, and because they had... PUPSQUEAK! They had the option to play with other lamaze toys, which they loved but those just dont compare to pupsqueak. They even like him in the crib and in the stroller, a versitile little toy. And A toy that for 12 bucks will last THREE YEARS, wow talk about getting a bargin! Pupsquek is definatly NUMBER ONE FOR MY LITTLE BOYS! Well maybe number two, but no one ever beats their loveys Puppy and Doggy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Daddy likes this too....
My son Jacob has this toy and I probably enjoy it more than him. It's a musical instrument! It's a toy! It's both!I can enjoy playing "Mary had a little lamb" while he drools on it.(Well, he is 2.)Definitely a good purchase.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very cute, but some room for improvement
Like other reviewers have noted, it's too hard for a baby to use, and definitely too heavy for a small child to pick up, but my 4-month old really likes to sit in my lap while I play it for him. It's awfully cute, and would be adorable even if it wasn't a musical toy. However, I nearly sent it back at first because one or two of the notes (legs) are tougher to get a sound out of (the higher notes). The yellow leg on ours has to be squeezed *just right* in order to sound the note, and even at that, it squeaks rather weakly. I also wish it had come with instructions for playing more than 2 songs. All in all, it's a cute toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars So cute!
My daughter is 5 months old, and loves her octopus. She can't squeeze the legs to make music yet, but if we put it by her feet, she can kick to get the sounds going, and she laughs when she does it.She loves to hug it and stares at the colors-she also smiles at the happy face on the octopus. She cracks up when we make music with the legs...even though she can't play with it by herself, it's a great bonding toy for us to play with together. ... My wife just wanted something simple and affordable so our son could sleep on from birth to plus 1 year old. I wanted to make sure it's light, well padded, and safe. This item provided all of that. The only one unsatisfactory information I could give you. It's difficult to assemble and disassemble in the begining...but once you learn the trick then it's cake walk.

2-0 out of 5 stars getting a graco instead
I received this pak n play as a shower gift. I thought all of them were hard to put together until I helped a friend put up her graco. The hard part on this one is the bassinet/changing table. Her graco was super easy and the changing table can be used even after the bassinet is outgrown. I sold my play yard in a yard sale yesterday and will be purchasing the graco model instead. This might not be a bad purchase if it were less expensive, (we got it when it was still $80) but even for the current price you can still get a graco model!

Let's face it. Caring for an infant or toddler is a very demanding job. But as any experienced mom, dad, or nanny will tell you, maintaining a neat and efficient nursery can help take some of the stress out of your day-to-day routine. An attractive addition to any nursery, this folding hamper in neutral ecru will work with just about any type of nursery décor and will help keep baby's laundry organized and out of view. The folding hamper requires almost no set up, just unfold and it works as a free-standing hamper that can be set up next to a changing table or crib, or slide it inside a larger closet or storage space. A large flap folds over the top of the hamper when not in use, and a large mesh bag serves as an insert that can be conveniently pulled out and carried to the laundry room without having to move the hamper itself. --Chris Burns ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT hamper
This is a definite must. I am extremely happy with this hamper. It has a nice mesh liner and since it is square, you can't put the liner in the hamper the wrong way! I just throw the baby stuff in the hamper and when it is full I pull the mesh liner out and carry the stuff to the washer. Very convenient.

    I highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine hamper
I own 3 of these hampers! One for my 3 month olds room, one for my 2 1/2 year olds room, and now one for my and my husbands room! They are just so convinient!

I too have lost socks, bibs, washcloths and such in the large plastic bins (they get lost on the bottom or something) and its nice to have our own laundry baskets. The mesh liner is very durable and holds about 4-5 days worth of each persons clothes (except for my husband and me, it holds about 2-3 days worth of our clothes lol). The mesh liner makes it so I can wash each persons clothes, and know what I have! All I do is "collect" each mesh bag and dump them all into a very large vinyl bag to bring it downstairs. This is much easier as opposed to those bulkey plastic bins that make it impossible to "collect" the laundry or to bring it downstairs. We keep the babies hampers in their large closets to prevent them from rumaging through them. The outside fabric is not getting dirty, so I dont see why you would wash it? But if you did I would recomend washing it in cold water (washing machine) and line drying it... This basket is also very nice looking as well!

    5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT...a must-have
This hamper is great and will match almost any color scheme. My son's room is Lambs & Ivy Precious Cargo and the blue goes perfectly!
Some people are complaining about shrinkage, but the inside mesh liner keeps the actual hamper from getting dirty. The actual fabric of the hamper is such a snug fit that I can see where any shrinkage would make it a problem to put it back on.But like I said, I haven't needed to wash the fabric...but I've thrown the mesh bag in the wash HUNDREDS of times. No problems there!Definitely worth the price! ... With its heavily padded comfort and effortless gliding motion, the glider rocker is a wonderfully luxurious improvement on the traditional wooden rocking chair. This deluxe version from Shermag sports an attractive cream fabric cover over thick polyurethane foam, and an all-wood frame with a natural finish. A matching ottoman that moves in sync with the rocker has also been included to provide an extra measure of comfort and luxury for the exhausted parents of a newborn or infant. 1-0 out of 5 stars Very poor quality
This glider was not very comfortable for nursing at all.It did not even last a year in our house before it fell apart. Not something I would ever buy again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality and Very Uncomfortable
The cushions are very thin and springs seem to poke through the thin cushions. It is not a chair that you would sit in for more than 15 minutes at a time. The straps have now ripped away from the buttons that secure it to the frame, which shows you how poor the quality of the cushions are since we rarely use this chair. The frame also looks very thin and chincy. We would definitely suggest staying away from this chair if you can afford to.Spend the extra money and buy something else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality...
I purchased this glider for my wife, who is expecting our first child soon. The decision to purchase this glider was based almost soley on the reviews we found here on Amazon (which I normally trust, as an avid amazon shopper). For this item, however, I am inclined to believe that the product must have recently changed... as I can find no other reason why people would be giving it such high reviews.

This glider has a whole host of problems, in my opinion:

    1. It just feels cheap. From the moment I put it together I found myself thinking "Hmm...this isn't going ot be good."

    2. The cushions, wich are supposed to be very soft, are actually quite thin and really don't provide a lot of comfort.

    3. Whenever anyone sits in the glider, the spings in the back and seat make strange cracking sounds. And I'm not talking about big people sitting down...this is with anyone.

    4. The back on the chair is way too short.I'm 6'1" and could care less if it's too short for me - but it's even too short for my wife at 5'8".

    5. The back position is almost straight up, not a very relaxing position at all.

The bottom line is that the combination of all of these problems results in the chair being almost useless. No one can sit in it for more than 20 minutes without being uncomfortable. You can feel the springs through the cushions well before that.I've learned my lesson... we'll find a store that sells gliders we can actually try in the future before buying a second one...

Assembly was the only thing the glider had going for it - sit the top on the bottom and attach 4 bolts. This is why I'll give it two stars instead of just one.Once together, however, it squeaks during the gliding motion. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Is our baby eating enough? Is this much crying normal? How do I knowwhen she is really sick? This hefty, 671-page guide to your baby's first year isbrought to you by the creators of the bestselling What to Expect When You'reExpecting. The three authors, all mothers themselves, are calm, clear, and encouraging as they tackle the first year of child-rearing, month by month. The easy-to-absorb, chronological format includes sections such as "WhatYour Baby May Be Doing," "What You Can Expect at This Month'sCheckups," "Feeding Your Baby This Month," "What You May BeConcerned About," and "What It's Important to Know."

Part Two addresses special concerns such as illness, first aid do's and don'ts,the low-birthweight baby, the adopted baby, becoming a father, and siblingrelationships. You'll also find discussions of breastfeeding and bottlefeeding, selecting a physician for the baby, diapers and clothing, safety, and many waysof stimulating the baby's development. The recipes for babies and toddlers inPart Three are useful, as are the recommended home remedies; charts on commonchildhood illnesses; height and weight; and the thorough index. (A particularstrength of the book is the authors' careful attention to diet and nutrition forboth mother and baby, incorporating the American Academy of Pediatrics' latestrecommendations on infant nutrition.) While some of the authors' perspectivesare controversial (such as whether to let your baby "cry it out" or not), thisbook remains one of the most comprehensive resources for new parents as theytoddle through their baby's first year. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Too calloused for my families needs
Let me first state that every child is different and every household has different needs. One method of childrearing may work for one family and child but work horribly for the next.

This book did not fit well or feel right to my family at all. I found myself shaking my head in disbelief at most of the methods they advise. For example, they strongly advocate letting your child `cry it out' especially at night. I tried this and it was heart wrenching for my husband and I, not to mention extremely stressful for my son. We discarded that method very quickly. We now respond to my son's needs when he expresses them. This book gives a quiet undertone that if you pamper your child too much then you're going to end up with a spoilt brat. I say that's rubbish.

Also, this book strongly discourages co-sleeping, a method that works very well for my family. I'll be darned if I'm going to get up when my son wakes for a feeding, nurse him, lull him back to sleep, and then try to get myself settled for sleep. I can't tell you how much better our son and I slept when we decided to just put him in the bed with us. Yes, there are arguments on both sides stating pros and cons. You just need to be smart about it.

This book has a very patronizing tone leaving you feel like you need to rule over your child with an iron fist or you'll be left with a kid that walks all over you. Everything about this book felt very calloused and cruel.

The only redeeming aspect of this book is that it does serve as a good reference as far as developmental milestones. It's good for reference, and that's pretty much it.

I strongly advise parents to explore a vast array of books as well as going with their gut. One method that works for one baby may not work for another; every baby is different and has different needs. This book did not work for us. We found `The Baby Book' by Dr. Sears to fit the needs of our family much more appropriately.

5-0 out of 5 stars make sure you get and review the 2nd edition, NOT the first
The problem with the previous reviewer's comments is that she's looking at the older edition of the book. THe 2nd edition, published in 2003 clearly states on page 437:

"The AAP recommends that breastfeeding continue for AT LEAST a full year and then for as long as baby and mother both want to keep it up..... Many women choose to continue nursing into the second year and beyond, and that's fine.... Older children who breastfeed are just as likely to be secure, happy, and independent as those who wean early."

PLUS -- there's an entire chapter dedicated to breastfeeding... with tons of reasons why it's a good thing. So I don't get why so many reviewers here keep on blasting this book for not being pro-breastfeeding.This book is so well balanced on so many issues -- like co-sleeping and baby wearing, etc. Looking at a ten year old version of the book that's been passed down from friend to friend and then REVIEWING it here -- instead of actually going out to the store or library to get the actual current book is unfair.

This book has been so helpful to me. As a first time parent, this book had all the answers I needed. Sure, I may not agree with everything in the book, but I'm intelligent enough to not take everything I read and treat it as gospel. I'm able to make my own decision when it comes to parenting, and not only does this book give me the tools to do that, but the authors even encourage that parents ultimately do what feels best to them.

    I highly recommend it!

1-0 out of 5 stars I threw this book in the trash can... literally
I didn't want any other parents getting their hands on it.I have several issues with this book.Their view on breastfeeding is that you should wean at age one or you will have problems.Even the AAP and World Health Organization recommends that you breastfeed for at least two years and let your baby self-wean.Also, they repeatedly call parents who won't let their babies cry it out 'soft'.If my baby is crying, I'm going to her: enough said. Also, they give only negatives and no positives to co-sleeping.I really liked their pregnancy book, but this one is garbage and I got the Dr Sears 'The Baby Book' instead. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST EVER
This gymni is a great buy. I bought this for my daughter when she was two months old and it was the greatest toy ever. She loved looking at the toys at first and begun to kick her legs.Within a few weeks she would bat at the toys and pretty soon she could grab them. This was the greatest toy for my newborn she could lay under it for hours.Which made housework so easy for me because she was very happy under her play gym.Great toy and I recommend it for any newborn. After she was to old for the gym at about six months when she could sit up.She now enjoys playing with the detachable rattle, mirror and music box. ...
