Joe line of action figures have emphasized historical accuracy. The Omaha Beach infantrymen carry the exact right kind of rifle, and the Vietnam tail gunner is outfitted perfectly for his era. Diverging from this careful path comes this totally weird and fairly hilarious Yeti set. It features a Latino arctic explorer figure dressed in a thick blue parka with bright orange pants, large ice boots, and yellow goggles. He looks like he's either at the North Pole or a particularly chilly Denver Broncos game. And then there's the freaky Yeti--a big white woolly thing with hard-plastic hands and feet. Its facial expression can be read as either calculating menace or chowder-headed indifference. Besides apparently being actually interested in this looming man vs. phenomenon battle, the human has two key advantages over his fluffy foe: a rifle and the ability to stand on his own. Unlike other Joe sets, there's nothing remotely realistic going on here, but this is a highly entertaining toy. With this Joe comes a kind of climbing claw for use in the snowy peaks, a rifle, a large camera, and climbing shoes, which are made of a bendable plastic and can be removed from the boots..He also has goggles, a parka, pants, and boots.Packaged with the Joe is the Yeti, which stands about the same height and is a bit more poseable.The Joe also has the Adventure Team equivalent of dog tags.He also has the fuzzy hair that usually came on the Adventure Team members.Depending on the one you purchase, the Joe may or may not have a beard. The jacket and pants are rather thin, so they don't look like they would really keep him warm in the Himalayas.The fur lining around the hood of the parka is a nice touch, but after a couple of days, the fur seems to be slowly coming out.The Yeti, however, seems to keep its fur. Joe figure. To begin with, it marks a triumphant return to the fuzzy-haired coif of Joes gone by. Also, he looks well equipped for subaquatic exploration in his orange jump suit and black vest that holds a pair of realistic air tanks. To make things slightly more dramatic in the inevitable combat portion of his mission, he comes equipped with a yellow watercraft that he can hold onto. While the figure is nicely articulated and able to pose in a number of positions, the same can't be said of the shark with which he's unfortunately paired. While it's certainly realistic to have a shark that's not terribly complex, it's a bit disappointing to play with a shark that looks an awful lot like a bath toy. For instance, the old version had an orange wetsuit that fit very snugly against the figure.Although this was good, if you wanted to change uniforms, the wetsuit was next to impossible to remove.As a matter of fact, the edges of the sleeves were often ragged from small pieces being torn off while pulling the sleeves down. The equipment is a bit more modern as the scuba gear has been updated.Also, the computer (part of the background story) has a CD, which the original did not have. The figure comes with the diving gear, diver knife, the underwater computer, a shark, an underwater sled with firing projectile, and an Adventure Team necklace.The latter replaces the dog-tags since this is not representing a military mission. The only drawback, as the picture shows, is that Joe just can't seem to buy anything but brown clothing! Where is his sense of fashion? But no problem. I replaced the brown pants and shirt and tie with a black turtleneck and khaki pants, and Joe is downright Bond-like now. In addition, the trench coat is not an exact reproduction of the coat I remember having had as a kid - flimsier fabric and less detailing. Overall, this is one of the best Timeless Collection sets released to date, in my opinion.If you had Adventure Team GI Joes as a kid in the early 70s, buy this reproduction of a vintage set!Guaranteed to make you feel like a kid again, and not the vintage adult you are becoming!

Joe-wise, here are some of the improvements from the classic 60s/70s-era version. He has more points of articulation, including in his torso and his hands which can now open and close to more securely hold his weapons. Even his neck is double-jointed for some reason. Also, hats and helmets are lined with foam to make them more securely stay on the figures' heads. This particular G.I. Joe, known as Snake Eyes, is a ferocious ninja-style operative, complete with an automatic rifle, a samurai sword, and nunchakus. The two included G.I. Joe figures wear boots, army shirts, pants, helmets, desert goggles, and dog tags. They also pack a couple of pistols. The vehicle carries two AT-4 missile launchers, two missiles, an M-60 machine gun, an M-60 ammo belt, an M-2 ammo belt, an ammo box, and a gas can. While the figures look fine, the vehicle really steals the show thanks to savvy, thoughtful details such as desert sand on the thick rubbery wheels. As the box notes, there is room for one more figure on the vehicle, so you can grab another member of the Joe team or grab, say, a spare Power Ranger for a particularly odd adventure. --John Moe ...
