    Editorial Review

When you're pregnant, there is nothing more exciting than keeping up with the drastic changes your body undergoes on a weekly basis. In Your Pregnancy Week by Week, Glade B. Curtis, M.D. (Your Pregnancy Questions and Answers, Your Pregnancy After Thirty) has written a clear, easy to follow guidebook. Each "week" includes information on: How Big Is Your Baby?, How Big Are You?, How Your Baby Is Growing and Developing, Changes in You, How Your Actions Affect Your Baby's Development, You Should Also Know, and a Tip of the Week. With the exception of the You Should Also Know sections (which sometimes focus on rare problems and concerns), the tone of the book is informative, chatty and reassuring. An extensive, excellent glossary adds value. Your Pregnancy Week by Week seems intended to both simplify and expand on the information an inexperienced or first-time mother-to-be receives from her medical provider. It is especially ideal for very young pregnant women seeking to better understand the changes in their bodies. --Ericka Lutz ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
I used this book during both of my pregnancies, and am now telling my sister in law to buy it also.Using this book in addition to other books, I was very well prepared for my pregnancy, my labor, and post partum.I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any expectant mother, and to the father also.I loved the pictures of the growing fetus, and the tips and comments in the side. All in all, I loved this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Strange
The weekly format of this book is in theory a really fun way to mark the passage of time during your pregnancy. However, it includes too much really scarry information that you can't do anything about. For example one week it goes into how dangerous it is to the baby when knots form in the unbilical cord but gives absolutely no information on what to do to detect or treat the condition. All reading that section did was make me worry about yet another thing.
Personally, I found 'What to Expect...' to be much more useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars infuriating - week by week
I purchased this book so that my husband and I could read a section a week so that we could both participate in learning about the pregnancy together.Male partners often feel so removed from the whole thing until the very end of the pregnancy and mine wanted to become more involved. We hated the book.It was repetitive and demeaning. The advice tips were absurd.Something like' Dad tip: be nice to your expectant wife this week.'I have found plenty of other good books around - don't waste your $$ ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Makes for a Very Cool Present
This book is a total crack-up!I get it for friends of mine who are expecting babies or have young kids.Very fun and always gets a laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
I received this book at a shower, and it became the hit of the party - guests took turns reading from it aloud.

Granted, if you are looking for a traditional fill-in-the-milestone baby book, this isn't it.But, if you (or the parent-to-be) would like a little humor mixed in with the diaper bags and layettes, this book is perfect.

On the days when parenthood is more than a little daunting, I pick it up for a much needed laugh.

5-0 out of 5 stars For those who "get" it...get this book
The mark of a really choice comedic book is when someone who isn't even in the target demographic picks it up and can't put it down until after reading it all the way through. I first saw this book at a Best Buy, laughed hysterically, then after wiping away my tears, recorded the title into my Palm Pilot for future reference. Right now, there's an unsuspecting pregnant friend of mine out there about to get this book...and she's going to LOVE it! There seem to be a couple reviewers here who think this book is actually supposed to be a record keeper or something to read a million times over. Someone mentioned that the book doesn't contain evergreen cultural references. (Gee, if that were a sign of success, then Stephen King would have been in big trouble a long time ago.) This is an "in the moment" book for a time that is best lived, well, in the moment. Great job. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok for the novice cloth diaperer, easy learning curve
I started out diapering my son with Kushies Ultra AIOs when he was about three weeks old.I didn't like them because:

    1.They took EONS to dry.

2.They leaked out of the legs.My son has fat little thighs and they still gaped.

3.My son got horrible diaper rash from the cold, clammy wet cotton being up against his bum.

The only thing I like about Kushies is that they are easily accessible to people who might be interested in cloth diapering but really have no idea where to start.

Long story short, I ebayed them and bought Fuzzi Bunz.We are both so much happier!Fuzzi Bunz are more adjustable, not much more expensive, and dry in just a few hours of hanging indoors. And the pesky diaper rash went away with the Kushies!

4-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT LITTLE DIAPER
I LIKE THESE DIAPERS A LOT!THEY FIT WELL AND LEAKS ARE RARE...USUALLY OVER NIGHT IF IT HAPPENS.WE HAVE FOUND THAT IF YOU PUT A WASHABLE LINER INTO THE DIAPERS AT NIGHT IT ALMOST ELIMINATES LEAKS ALL TOGETHER.THEY DO TAKE A LONG TIME TO DRY, SO YOU NEED TO CONSIDER THIS WHEN WASHING THEM.ALSO, I HAVE NOTICED SOME BREAK DOWN OF THE COVER BY THE WASTE BAND AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF USE.THEY STILL WORK;BUT CAN CAUSE AN IRRITATION ON OUR SONS ABDOMEN IF NOT WATCHED.I HAVE NOT TRIED ANY OTHER BRAND;SO I HAVE NOTHING TO COMPARE IT TO.BUT I THINK IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO DO EVERYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT AND THIS IS A GREAT START.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't recommend this cloth diaper system.
I bought 3 dozen of each size to cloth diaper my daughter.

    Pros:
    1.No diaper cover needed.

    Cons:
    1.Drying takes FOREVER
2.Didn't see the savings (from running the dryer 2-3x each load)
3.Big Time diaper rashes. Even though I frequently changed my baby.
    4. Constant leaking out the sides of diapers, urine and BM's

After discovering Fuzzi Bunz and Wonderoos (one size pocket diapers). I Ebay'd all my Kooshies. And couldn't be happier.
I wouldn't recommend this diaper system. Look into Fuzzi Bunz or Wonderoo's you'll be much happier. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

This comprehensive set from Playtex is designed to make nursing easier for Mom. It features two four-ounce nursing bottles and two eight-ounce bottles along with 15 liners. Breastfeeding experts recommend using bottle nipples like the four found here. They’re broad enough to resemble a mother’s actual breast, which makes feeding easier and less confusing for baby. Also included is a breast pump adapter ring to allow milk from the pump to flow directly into a bottle. New moms especially can never have enough bottles and liners around the house so this is a perfect set to pick up for yourself or any mom you know. --J. Moe ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars Usedsince1996
I have been using these bottles since 1996.My oldest daughter was colic and ever since I changed the bottles to this, the colic stopped. Now I am on my third child and plan to use them again.I like these bottles because my children liked them.Easier to clean andthe plastic are easy to dispose of.A MUST HAVE!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product but definitely a "starter" set
I really love the convenience of the Playtex Premium system with Drop-Ins liners.I can pump directly into the liners, seal them up and then just pop them into a bottle at feeding time. The bottles themselves have slow-flow nipples, which I find are very easy for my baby to nurse from. However, this is definitely a "starter" set, and anyone who wants to use this system for all their bottle needs will have to make several additional purchases.First of all, only one of the four bottles in the set (an eight ounce bottle) has the slide at the bottom to squeeze the air out of the liners.Even with the short four-ounce bottles, when the liner gets up toward the top I couldn't get my fingers in far enough to squeeze out the air that had accumulated inside. So, I would recommend buying a couple of more of the bottles with the slide to make it easier to squeeze air out of the liners. Also, there are only two storage caps included in the starter set - you will definitely need more to amass any sort of milk supply. These have to be bought in "kits" with Drop-Ins liners (but you'll need extra liners anyway as they're disposable, so that won't go to waste). However, in every kit there's also a breast pump adaptor included. This seems like a waste to me since you don't really need more than two of those.I would like to be able to buy the storage caps separately.Otherwise, though, this really is a nice way to see whether this system will work for you without investing a lot of money up front but still getting a little bit of everything you would need.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful bottle!
I have used these bottles once before with my daughter, now 4.After reading several reviews here, I have to say that I never had a problem with leakage.Make sure you screw the cap on tight as normal, the nipple is in the ring properly, you won't have a problem at all.

The liners do get expensive but I bought an off brand at Wal-Mart that worked just as well and saved us money. My 8 oz. bottles had a lever that you could push up on the liner and get the air out of the bottle (you do not need to use your hands except on the 4 oz. ones which is not difficult at all).I don't know if there are different Playtex Nurser bottles that do not have this lever but mine did and this was very convenient (we got them at Babies' R Us).The lever is a must!

The liners are awesome for traveling or quickly making a bottle for a baby that wants to eat NOW.This also frees you from constantly washing bottles (which any mother can tell you that they don't have all the time in the world to do this).Because you can push the air out of these bottles/liners, they are wonderful compared to a regular old bottle. My daughter never had problems with spit-up.My husband and I just ran the bottles under warm tap water and it warmed the bottle right up, no problem at all.

I was not able to breast feed my first daughter so I don't know how well they work with switching back and forth.I am now pregnant with my second child and will be purchasing these bottles again.I don't have my first set only because I passed them on to someone else because they deserved to see how well they worked.

I believe the reviews are very helpful but only you can decide what will work best for your child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy clean up
The Playtex Drop-ins are a convenient way to make bottles quickly. They save time by only having to rinse the bottles you use instead of having to steralize each time. This can also help in how many bottles you will need. After each feeding just rinse the bottle and you are ready to go with a fresh Drop-in and a clean nipple. Also, the daddies are more willing to help because of the convenience of this product.I am very glad I choose this bottle to feed my baby.

"Judy can pat the bunny. Now YOU pat the bunny." Sound familiar? Pat the Bunny is a part of childhood, as soothing as cocoa and animal crackers.Dorothy Kunhardt's interactive book for babies and toddlers was one of the first of its kind when it was published in 1940, and it has since sold over six million copies. We pat the soft fur of the bunny, play peek-a-boo, look in the mirror, and then do it all over again. (And again and again and again.) After you Pat the Bunny with your baby, why not Pat the Cat and Pat the Dog? These two sequels were written by Edith Kunhardt, the daughter of the author of the original book. Both use the same tried-and-true Pat the Bunny format: sturdy cardboard pages with eight activities that wee ones can explore, from sniffing some brownies, to squeaking a teddy bear, to unfastening Grandma's tennis shoe. The simple line drawings and pastel colors don't do much for adults, but somehow they are just right for babies. This boxed set is a fine choice for a baby gift or first birthday present, and a lifesaver on a long car trip. (Baby to preschool) --Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic book!
Every baby should have this book. This book is stimulating for babies because it contains various textures that the baby will love to feel.I also loved the pictures.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wish the book can be more sturdy.
My daughter (2 years old) loves this book but I will have to replace it soon because all the pages easily came out of the ringbinding (with her help of course). I have re-assembled it thousands of times but now the ring binding is strecthed out and does not want to hold the pages together. Not a book that will last through more than one child in my experience, if they make the book with a solid hard cover, I have yet to find it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Guess you can't please everyone!
Looking at other reviews, it looks like I'm in the minority here, but my son doesn't really like this book.
I'd bought it for him when he was around a year old - at the time I figured that maybe he was too young for it (although he did enjoy other books), but at 21 months, he still doesn't like it. He likes the peek-a-boo, but that's about it.
The only reason I can think of is that the soft colours don't really appeal to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down favorite!
My daughter loves loves loves this book. She has about six other potty training books but could care less about them.I try to read her any other potty book and she yells "No! Once Upon a Potty!Once Upon a Potty!"Yes, it is explicit.Prudence is indeed stark naked.Yes, she does bend over to show you the hole in her bottom for making poo poo.But frankly, if you have a hard time talking about body parts and functions with your two year old, I fear for you when your child hits puberty.
My daughter has been very successful with her training and in our house, we don't just go potty, we "go potty like Prudence!"

2-0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
I bought the book to help my daughter with potty training but we (my husband and I) found it a little to explicit for such young children, I could have done without the little girl bent over telling us this is where the poop comes out, I've recently gotten a few other books that do a much better job without being so, well gross.I wouldn't recommend this one over any other potty training books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Potty guide for Toddlers...
Simply put, before this book we had difficulty potty training my 2.5 year old daughter. After a few reading of this book, we had a potty breakthrough! My daughter become more comfortable about the potty and all the bodily function associated with it.

Knowledge is power, even for a 2 year old. They have to know what's what on their body and what goes where. This book is extemely helpful in broaching those subject with your toddlers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where are we going? Clap! Clap! Clap! - CRAZY!!!!!!!
Due to inclement weather, I found myself housebound with a two year old (not mine) and an almost four year old (mine). With apologies to Dr. Seuss, it was too wet to go out and too cramped to stay in, but we had to make the most of it.

Fortunately, this DVD was on top of the pile, and it was an instant hit with both boys.In no time at all they were singing along with Dora, Boots, Backpack and Map, and enjoying participating in the activities.

This DVD has four adventures, each involving Dora and her friends following a map, finding clues and overcoming obstacles. It's a learning experience hidden in a fun cartoon, as Dora stares at you with her huge brown eyes, while talking about colors, counting, encouraging problem solving and introducing some Spanish words. It should have something of interest for ages one to five, without ever being boring.

For adults it's a different matter after you've heard it the first five times or so, as the repetitive nature of the songs and activities slowly drills a hole in your skull, exposing every nerve ending to the strident "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the maaaaaap" and "Backpack, Backpack, Backpack, Backpack..."

Anyway, the price of a pair of earplugs and the inconvenience of having to schedule a lobotomy is a fair trade for keeping the kids from going stir crazy and fighting each other, especially when you hear them using Spanish words and watch them having fun learning.

Just go with the flow, and join in yelling "SALTA" while you jump over the imaginary watermelons rolling through your living room.

    Amanda Richards, January 27, 2005

First, this bag contains exactly what it promises. Read the production description. Click on the picture to view a larger version. You are told exactly what is in the bag.
The only problem is that you could get these things separately, and the duffel itself isn't really necessary.
Still, the price is low and it is cute enough to hold a child's attention. The duffel, of course, can be reused.

1-0 out of 5 stars Missing pieces
I am very disappointed with this product. The amazing art duffle bag came in almost empty. Promised bags of modeling clay, stamping markers, stickers and the activity booklet was nowhere to be found. It is about time that someone takes an action...

    Editorial Review

Beginning with the "10 Greatest Lies About Pregnancy" (number 10: Lamaze works), and ending with postpartum dementia, Vicki Iovine's Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy has fast become the laywoman's mouthpiece for the American pregnancy experience. Iovine is irreverent, sassy, and incredibly reassuring as she exposes the "truths" of pregnancy and childbirth, from sex to cellulite to cesareans. Iovine birthed four kids in six years, none of them twins, which certainly qualifies her as an expert. The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy does reveal Iovine's particular cultural biases (pregnant or not, most of us don't have record-producer husbands, hang out with supermodels, or wear size-four pants) and philosophical beliefs (she's not a particularly strong proponent of natural childbirth or nursing), but, taken with a grain or two of salt, she provides many hilarious moments, acres of advice, and honest reassurance readers will find nowhere else. --Ericka Lutz ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I got this book as a gift.
I found some of the advice out-dated (stirrups?!) and not relevant.
While some areas were cute and entertaining, I found that this book lacked any useful information.

4-0 out of 5 stars aptly titled.
The "Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" is just what it claims to be: witty musings on pregnancy by a self-proclaimed hip "Girlfriend".It is clever, blunt and covers topics most books don't.Sears and Sears, for example, would have you believe that pregnant women are sexy goddesses to their male partners, while Vicki points out that some men love the cushy thing and others are totally turned off by a woman who outweighs them and/or the idea of making love "in front of" their unborn baby."Girlfriends' Guide" is also -- as you'd expect from a friend whose main credentials are hipness, Playboy-centerfoldness, and a flair for the well-turned phrase -- medically misleading and often wrong. Her chapter on exercise, for example, is largely a list of 10 reasons not to bother with it, including her opinion that it will only lengthen your labor and you won't get back into shape any more quickly. These may be the Girlfriends' personal experiences, but controlled and unbiased studies show that moderate exercise throughout pregnancy: decreases the length of labor an average of a few hours; lowers risk of depression; decreases time to postpartum recovery; and does all sorts of good things for the baby.Plus the baby comes a bit earlier on average (but still full-term), and who wouldn't want to shave off a few days at the end?Vicki also sees induced labor as a handy way to plan one's delivery ... not something most doctors recommend as a general policy. So enjoy her humor and Girlfriend perspective, but get your hands on some actual resources too.(The Pregnancy Book, What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Mother of All Pregnancy Books are places to start)

I read the whole book and HATED it.I actually ended up personally disliking the author. It started out well enough, about how a community of supportive women is vital during pregnancy and motherhood.I agreed with that. But it quickly went downhill from there.
First of all, it seemed to me that her "encouragement" to exercise was an afterthought that her editors made her throw in - I got the distinct impression that her real opinion was that you're best off not exercising at all.She actually goes so far as to say that labor is easier if you're out of shape (!?)
Not to mention how incredibly dated some of the advice is - for example, the section on maternity clothes?Decent, relatively inexpensive maternity clothes ARE available nowadays, and the outfits she suggests sound positively hideous.I understand that a blazer over a unitard was considered fashionable in the early 90's, but honestly, who today would even consider wearing that?
And then she heartily reccommends CVS - an invasive, totally unnecessary in most cases prenatal test that carries fairly high risk and is not usually done unless there is a real risk of something being wrong with the baby. She advocates having it done just because. No real reason, just because.Huh?
The general message that I got from the book was, "you're taking unnecessary risks if you exercise, but unnecessary invasive testing procedures are awesome; you're a fashion victim if you don't wear unitards; you're a selfish masochist if you try for a natural birth."
And yes, I have a sense of humor, but no, I did not find her funny.Just really, really irritating. ... Read more
