5-0 out of 5 stars Best Game for Gameboy Ever!
I think that Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town is one of the best GB game ever! You get to raise a horse and a dog. Plus, you can own up to 8 cows, 8 chickens, and 8 sheep! You can collect eggs, wool, and milk. You can even grow crops like most farmers! You get to marry one of the five girls, Popuri, Ann, Elli, Mary, or Karen. You can even marry the Harvest Goddess if you figure out how. If you give a present to your wife every day for about a month, you will find out she is pregnant and will have a baby boy within 60 days. Over the years your child will continue to grow. And for all the girls, they are working on a Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town that will let you play as a girl and you can marry one of the five boys, it will be released in Summer 2005. I highly recommend either of the games!

4-0 out of 5 stars Harvest Moon is one of the most fun, creative, inspiring games
I saw this game being reviewed on a videogame show and thought it looked stupid so I decided to borrow it. On the way home I was thinking would ever play this game, well after awhile I figuerd who would...ME!!! It may look boring but it really is fun, I was playing that game all night for like 17 hours none-stop. There is so much you can do in it I mean come on:

    -Farm crops
    -take care of animals
    -talk to the inhabitents (people)
    -meet girls
    -farm MANY crops
    -and much more!

Trust me this game is super-duper fun!!! (super-duper?) If you like this Harvest Moon or any other HM I reccomened Animal Crossing on GC you dont get to farm or that kind of stuff but well its kind of like The Sims meets Harvest Moon but its still fun if you like HM!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!!!!!
This game is awsome!!! Although at the beggining I did have some trouble. When I started, don't laugh, I thought the weed where plants and I used to water them and everything! That was stupid. After that I learned how to run a succesful farm, I am doing preety good. This game lets you plant seeds, water them, buy cows and chicken, let them have calves and chick (which grow up), milk the cow and get eggs from the chicken. Here are some of the things you do int he farm:

    plant seeds
    water them
    buy cows and chicken
let them have calves and chick (which grow up)
milk the cow and get eggs from the chicken
You can have a horse, which after it's big enough you can ride
You can have a dog or cat
    You feed the animals
You plant grass to feed the animal
Once the plants are ready, you pick them and get ca$h

Almot the only bad part would be that you have to do the same thing again every day. One of my friends has this gme and she's been playing it a longer time then me and once her cow was missing and she says she found it ont he roof!!! So maybe you do do the same things every day, but once in a while you might get a suprise!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars harvest moon rocks!
my friend was always talking about how awesome harvest moon was, and i didn't really belive her. a farming game??! i mean, come on. that must stink as much as the cow poop.
    i was SO wrong!
she let me play her old GBC version, and i loved it! it was one of the best games i'd played! since i love RPGs, it went in my gameboy...and stayed there. she gave the game to me ^_^
    about the game:
you get to be a boy, or girl (unlike most other harvest moon games, where you must play a guy), and both have advantages: the guy is stronger and tires slower, but the girl gets extra seeds (i would recomend being the girl, since being stronger doesn't really do much). You get to plant and harvest seeds, and buy cows and chickens. making money at first is hard, so don't go out and buy a bunch of building materials, or a house esxpainsion, until you can really afford it!
i would recomend playing this version before any other harvest moon games, so you can get the basics down. for me, being thrown into HM-mineral town with only a days experiance at the game was very confusing. also, this could be the best bet for you if you don't want to spend time with relationships (like in other HM games). ... E.T. and the Cosmic Garden is a real-time adventure game for your Game Boy Color. Travel to six planets populated by the most exotic, weird, and wild plants in the galaxy. Gather these rare and wonderful plants for the spaceship's greenhouse and fulfill E.T.'s original mission by replanting and restoring the Cosmic Garden.

Growing a healthy garden requires E.T. and his assistants, Space Bee and Space Slug, to maintain proper amounts of food, water, and light, and to protect these special species from a host of intergalactic pests, including space beetles, fungus, and harmful celestial events, such as a prolonged eclipse. But don't worry--E.T. can use his special telekinesis powers to save the day.

    Breath of Fire

    Video Game (18 October, 2001)

    Editorial Review

Since the early '90s, the Breath of Fire series has been a staple onboth the Super Nintendo and Sony PlayStation systems. This version for the GameBoy Advance is a perfect handheld port of the original Super Nintendo game thatstarted it all.

The story is standard, but solid, fare--you are Ryu, a member of the WhiteDragon clan, and your task is to save the world from the Black Dragon clan. Intimes past, the two clans were actually one clan, but split in a horrendous wardue to an evil and meddling goddess. While the White clan has maintained peacesince then, the Black clan hasn't. Get the drift?

While the story is fairly black and white (pardon the pun), the gameplay itselfis where the game shines. Each character has unique skills and abilities thatunlock special areas of the game. For example, Ryu can fish if he finds afishing pole. Later in the game, he can transform into a dragon during battle.Another character can walk through forests unimpeded and shoot animals for food. What's neat about this system is that as you gain companions with differentskills, you can go back to earlier parts of the game to unlock areas that areonly accessible via their skills. This adds to the replay value and depth of thegame.

The battle system is the standard turn-based, random-encounter biscuits andgravy that most console gamers have come to expect. While not as engrossing as,say, Golden Sun's battle system, the shape-shifting at higher levels addssome enjoyment while fighting the ubiquitous nasties. Two added feature for theGBA version are automatic fighting, which is good for when you don't want to gothrough all the motions of turn-based combat, and an ability to swap items witha friend's version of the game through the separately soldlink cable.

The graphics and sound are decent, but largely unimproved from the original SNESversion, so they will seem dated. However, if you are into 16-bit, 2-Drole-playing games, you'll find that the graphics look good on the GBA's screen. The sound is a faithful reproduction, but can sound tinny at times. --BryanKarsh

    Pros:

    • Fun skill system that allows you to unlock hidden areas in the game
    • Link option to trade items with friends
    • Auto fighting option for those endless battles
    • A nice story and a huge world to explore
    Cons:
    • Too many random battles
    • Graphics are dated
    • Sound is a little tinny

5-0 out of 5 stars Right up there with Final Fantasy
Im a big rpg player and out of all the games ive played, BOF is one of my top favotites. It has a solid story line with Ryu who is out to stop the dark drangons whom threaten to take over the world with the power of the goddes Tyr and find his sister who was captured by the dark dragon clan.Along the way Ryu meets up with seven companions who in turn are out to stop the dark drangons who have wronged them, Nina, Bo, Carn, Gobi, Ox, Blue, and Mogue. Each character posses their own unque abilities as which is common in all rpgs and are essential to the game. What is unique is that Ryu can transform himself into the dragon and you must searc the continents to find his other dragon forms and eventually transform into the ultimate dragon, Angi (not sure of the spelling).

For those of you who wish to obtain all of Ryu's dragon forms, all you have to do is aquire the Rod 5 which is in a chest under Gust and then fish in all the wells to obtain the dragon armors needed to be allowed in the dragon shrines. In one such well you will obtain a slab inscribing how to obtain the ultimate dragon power.Once you have all the other powers (not angi) you go to the water canve and go all the way to where you got the ring and decend the steps into the water to go underwater to a small cave....that is where angi lies.

The most diffucult part of this game for me was getting thru the dream worlds where things get twisted and walls disappear...you'll know what i mean once you play...it is very frustrating...but the game is a lot of fun, and i would recommend it to anyone who needs to find a good rpg to play.

For anyone who wants hints to the game you can email me at sailor_moon_4evah@yahoo.comive played this game thru five times and know it inside and out.Play it, im sure you'll love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars hate
I bought this game and couldnt wait to play it when I first got my GBA, but then I kept getting stuck in the same place and had no patience and then when I saved it didnt show and I had to keep starting over, uggh maybe that just my game but man im staying away from breath of fire and most roleplaying games (no patience). The only thing I liked was the graphics, but if you have great patience go ahead and buy, be my guest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very engaging RPG
Final Fantasy aside, Breath of Fire is one of the longest-running RPG series around, and the handheld version of the first adventure gets decent treatment. Yet despite the re-appearance of the game's fresh visuals and unique play aspects, the lifeless narrative doesn't provide the immersive experience that you'd expect. Originally released by Square on the Super NES in 1994, Breath of Fire arrives on the Game Boy Advance with enhanced cinemas, but otherwise remains unchanged. You play as Ryu, a lone hero who can also transform into a variety of powerful dragons. During the course of Ryu's quest, various characters join your party, each with their own personal demons and diversions that involve the entire team. An RPG's lifeblood is a strong story, but BoF's narrative is remarkably uninvolving. You'll spend a lot of time engaging in mundane tasks-"talk to A, then B, then A again, and then C"-and navigating a series of seemingly endless mazes. Even the turn-based battles lack flair, except for the boss battles. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with this one, but a new Dash feature speeds you through the game and saves batteries. BoF delivers a tight visual and audio package. Colorful sprites fill the screen with arresting colors and special effects, while the soundtrack provides decent music accompanied by muted sound effects. Workmanlike controls feature easy menu navigation and responsive character movement. On the whole, Breath of Fire is an enjoyable RPG that easily kills spare time. Just don't expect a thoroughly involving adventure on the same level as later games in the series. ... Read more

    Golden Sun

    Editorial Review

Golden Sun is the first original role-playing game for the GameBoy Advance to appear in the U.S. And despite perhaps a too-familiar story line,Golden Sun's jaw-dropping graphics, deep magic system, and uniquemultiplayer arena mode truly show that the Game Boy Advance is capable of aserious RPG.

Game developer Camelot (which also made the legendary Shining Force series forthe Sega Genesis, and, more recently,Mario Golf andMario Tennis for theNintendo 64) designed Golden Sun from the ground up to take advantage ofthe GBA's horsepower, and it shows. Sharp, vivid landscapes, detailed towns anddungeons, and awesome weather effects--it looks like a Super Nintendo game withsome extra zing squeezed onto a handheld system. Fans of Secret of Manaor Chrono Trigger will appreciate the feel of this game.

But the game's greatest strength is its magic system. Your characters each havetheir own latent psychic abilities based on one of the four elements of alchemy(earth, water, wind, and fire). The characters will be called upon to use theirindividual forms of telepathy and telekinesis to solve various puzzles in thegame. Also, you can collect Djinn (elemental spirits) and link them to yourcharacters. Not only can these Djinn be summoned in battle, they can alsobolster or hinder your characters' latent psychic abilities, give them specialattacks, and even change your characters' class. This system is similar toFinal Fantasy VIII's guardian system, though far more intuitive and easyto master.

Golden Sun employs a basic turn-based battle system, but it has amazingspell and fighting techniques that really take advantage of the GBA'stechnology. The game achieves a nice balance between flashy attacks and thebrevity of these same attacks--a lesson the makers of other RPGs should learn.Battles are beautifully and quickly fought, and don't overtax the gamer.

The game also has an addictive arena mode in which players can fight monstersthey've already encountered in the game. Players can also link up with anotherGBA (this feature requires another Golden Sun cartridge) and fightagainst another party. While it's not true a multiplayer option, it adds a greatreplay value to the game.

Golden Sun's weakest point, however, is its standard-issue story. Inessence: boy wakes up amidst disaster, meets stalwart friends, and rises to thechallenge to save the day (all while living up to the image of his dear departedfather). The story is a little stale, but the mechanics of the game transcendthis flaw and bring the gamer into a state of handheld nirvana. --BryanKarsh

    Pros:

    • Vivid graphics
    • Deep, intuitive magic system
    • Addictive multiplayer arena mode
    Cons:
    • A plot straight out of "RPG Story Lines 101"

5-0 out of 5 stars Good...but too short
I know they're leaving room for a sequal, but I finished in about a week of real time, and I didn't play that much.Plus, since you're stuck in Lalivero after you beat the final battle, there's no replay value.Although it left me eagerly awaiting the second one, it also left me feeling a little cheated. However, overall, this is an awesome game. The storyline didn't bother me, because the number of sideplots the ever-altruistic Isaac and crew feel the need to indulge in kept things varied and fun.Overall, I highly recommend this game, but if you're getting it, buy Lost Age at the same time, or you'll be really mad when you finish.Me?I'm promising myself Lost Age as a reward after I finish Finals Week, and I'm counting the days.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing game
This game is one of the best games I have ever played.

    Music 4.5/5 pretty good music

    GamePlay 5/5 very fun game

    Overall 4.7/5

    Overall

4-0 out of 5 stars Any RPG loving GBA owner should buy this.
Created by a little know developer called Camelot (they made some Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games, as well as Shining Force before they joined Nintendo), Golden Sun is one of the GBA's more exceptional games.

Golden Sun has one major achievement it had for the GBA.It pushed the limits of the system in terms of graphics. While the visuals for wandering around seem rather easy for the system to create, the battles are a spectacular achievement.Even though the characters and enemies are shown as animated sprites. The sprites themselves are not much to write home about, but regardless they are quite convincing and suit the battle setup more than you might expect. The battle screen is sort of a "quasi-3D" setup. The background and sprites are 2D, but they are executed in such a manner that they look 3D.Not only that, battle effects, such as spells and simple attacks, add wonderfully to the setup. The only real problem I can see is that some spell effects slow down the framerates (how fast or smoothly it runs) noticably, but it's all handled so well that it doesn't even seem like a glitch, and out of sheer irony it adds to the effect of some of the spells.

The sound is a mixed bag.The music score part is excellent.Everything from the main menu music, to town themes, and the grand world map music is great both technically and melodically. If any songs do get on your nerves, they either won't last long or are done in such a way that you can tune them out while playing.Sound effects, however, are very standard.A lot of them are recycled so much that it's practically mind numbing. However, none of it seems completely out of place, and there isn't much that will hurt your ears, so that's something to be happy for.

The gameplay itself only has one real flaw in my opinion. The battles are too easy. With the exception of most of the boss battles, regular battles tend to be so easy that the thought of using the run option will never occur to you (they also go so quick that there's not really a time issue involved either). There's also an issue where, if you set all of your characters to attack one enemy and that enemy is destroyed, the characters that attack him later have their attack wasted. This really isn't too much of an issue, though, and Camelot was smart enough to make the character automatically defend if that should happen (which means damage to that character would be halved... though I think that only refers to physical damage).

The story has gotten a lot of bad press in my opinion. However, it should be noted that if you play this game, the story alone may persuade you to buy the next game, GS: The Lost Age (which is already out). While that's not particularly a bad thing, as the combination of the two stories is really awesome, just be aware of the extra expense that may cost for your wallet. Also, it should be noted that this game is a bit on the short side (roughly 20-25 hours), but that's still not much of an issue in my view (just so you know, the second game in the series is roughly 40-45 hours long, so that one is lengthier).

All in all, the game is quite fun. However, there are a few quirks that I mentioned above that may get on some people's nerves, so just know what you're getting into. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST GAME IN THE UNIVERSE!!!
I ogot this game when I was 5 and I INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.I played it all night though i was 7.I had to have it taken away from me stuffed under my parents matress and they locked themselves in the room at night so i couldnt get it.Now 7 years later i am almost 13 and i look at toys r us games and see gameboy and i remembered this game..I frantically searched the gameboy games and there it was Dragon Warrior Monsters and also
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 so now i am going to search the web to buy it...If youre a gameboy lover this game is a very, very huge must...

4-0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - Excellent game
Dragon Warrior Monsters (2000.) The first game in the Dragon Warrior Monsters series.

Over the years, the Dragon Warrior series has been one of the finest RPG series out there. Perhaps one of the greatest things about the series is the sheer variety of monsters that you get to fight against. At long last, we are given a way to control those ever-so-cool monsters! For this entry in the Dragon Warrior series, the series ventures into Pokemon-esque territory. Read on for my review of Dragon Warrior Monsters.

    PROS:
-THERE ARE TONS OF MONSTERS, AND A TON OF DIVERSITY BETWEEN THEM ALL. The monsters in this game fall into many different species, and no two monsters are exactly alike. The total number of monsters in this game dwarfs that of the early Pokemon games.
-THE GAME FEATURES CHARACTERS/MONSTERS/ETC. DESIGNED BY AKIRA TORIYAMA, OF DRAGON BALL FAME. Akira Toriyama is a creative genius, and his creations in this game stand as solid proof of it.
-CATCHY MUSIC AND GRAPHICS. The music is diverse enough to always fit the mood of the location that you're currently exploring, and the graphics are cool enough to draw in older gamers, while at the same time, cute enough to draw in younger gamers.
-YOU CAN BREED MONSTERS. In this game, you can get a male and female monster together and have them give birth to a new monster altogether! This is one of the greatest features of the game, period.
-THE LAYOUTS OF THE MONSTER WORLDS ARE RANDOMLY GENERATED. This means that almost every time that you go into one of the monster worlds, you're going to be in for somewhat of a surprise. This will keep you coming back to the worlds rather frequently.
-MUCH MORE OF A "TRADITIONAL RPG" FEEL THAN OTHER MONSTER-ORIENTED GAMES. The best way to describe the overall atmosphere of this game would be "Dragon Warrior meets Pokemon", and that's a good thing. You've really got to play the game to appreciate it.
-LOTS OF HIDDEN STUFF. In addition to the standard levels that you can go to, there are many hidden ones that you can unlock, as well, by performing certain tasks.

    CONS:
-WHEN YOU BREED MONSTERS, THE MONSTERS YOU USED TO CREATE THE EGG ARE GONE FOR GOOD. Admittingly, this isn't that big of a deal, but it's bound to frustrate younger, inexperienced players.
-THERE IS A HUGE BUG IN THE COMBAT SYSTEM. If you assign a monster to attack a rival monster that has already been defeated, that attack just goes to waste! I thought this bug had been worked out of all the RPGs of today. Apparently I was wrong.
-IF YOU DIE, YOU LOSE ALMOST ALL OF YOUR ITEMS. This can become frustrating when you've accumulated a good deal of recovery items, or found a lot of items in the Monster World that you wish to sell for a profit.
-THE COVER ART IS TERRIBLE! While the original Japanese version of the game featured awesome cover art by none other than Akira Toriyama himself, the American version of the game features a rather poor piece of three-dimensional artwork that looks more like it belongs in a candy bar commercial.

    OVERALL:
Overall this is a damn good game, despite a few minor flaws. Is it a Pokemon rip-off? No. It's something more than that, and you've got to play it to appreciate it. The Dragon Warrior series usually features nothing but excellent games, and this is no exception. Got a Game Boy? Don't even think about passing this game by if you're an RPG fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars toooooooooooooo easy
Although this game is one of my favorite of all time(despite the horrible grapics outside of battle)it was just too easy. At least in dwm2 you had a hard time after completing the regular quest. After starry night in this game it was simply going through warpholes and beating bosses. I beat starry night, the master monster tamer, beat every warphole and got watabou all in under 25 hours. Let me gove every body a hint breed breed breed until you can get a Goldslime and a Jamyrus throw in any other monster and then go to the slime warp got to warp 25 and beat on metabbles you get 22,000 experience per its too easy easy easy easy. ... I thought that this Tomb Raider game was much easier than the rest of them, but still equally fun. It's all in 2D and you have to go through puzzles, mazes, caves, etc. It's a great game to buy for any Tomb Raider or action adventure fans. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardcore Pinball by Telegames......
With the exception of Sonic Pinball Party, Pinball of the Dead, & Pokemon Pinball, you don't see alot of pinball action of the Gameboy advance. That being said, Hardcore Pinball is one of the best games of its' type to give you a real feel of arcade play. With four challenging tables, realistic physics, superbly animated flippers, bumpers, rails, kickers, spinners, and silver ball & outstanding music and sound effects...all combined...make this an outstanding simulation. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure you will, too.
Telegames, if you're out there reading this...how about giving us a Billiards game for the GBA now...now that would be great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything I expected
I was looking for good pinball and found it here. You have 4 different themed tables from which to choose, and all of them actually play differently--the physics are different; they're not just changing around the graphics. On some, the ball bounces higher (less gravity), the flippers move at slightly different speeds...you get a unique experience at each table.

I would have liked to have seen a few more scoring options other than the ramps--they could have been a bit more creative in that area, but it's still great fun.

If you're a pinball fan, you'll love it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Simplistic and Boring
I'm a pretty huge fan of pinball, both of real tables and virtual ones, and I own every pinball title released for the GBA thus far except for Muppet Battle (Sonic Pinball Party, Pinball of the Dead, Pokemon Pinball, and this one). This game is definitely the worst of all of them.If you're looking for anything remotely similar to a real-world experience, do not look here. All four of the included tables are incredibly sparse, consisting of just a couple of bumbers and a ramp or two.The flipper action is horrible, so that instead of a quick snap when you hit a button, there is a long delay before it reaches full extension. This makes it very difficult to get the ball anywhere accurately. The entire game has a very basic, low-budget feel to it that is even more pronounced by the simple-looking boxcover and what is probably the shortest instruction manual ever written (literally 4 tiny pages long).

If you want a great pinball experience at home, your best bet by far is to seek out Empire Interactive's superlative Pro Pinball games for the PC (Timeshock, Big Race USA, Fantastic Journey, and The Web), which are all available in a single compilation called Gamefest Pinball Classics.Otherwise, both Sonic Pinball Party (sold only at Target stores) and Pokemon Pinball are solid GBA games if you want to go that route. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great for younger kids
i think that this toy is really great it is much more durable than the normal tomogatchi and if your kid wants to feel special it is great there are more and more violent video games these days this game is really really safe it's as if you have a tomogotchi but it's will make your kid feel older and it will keep you from having to buy one every 2 seconds.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE TRUTH! By cyber55, a tamagotchi lover (CANADA)
This is the truth about good and bad parts of the game.
GOOD PARTS: The tamagotchi will grow into an adult in just one day if they are played with enough, the sound effects are kind of cute insteads of the beeping from the egg toys, there are more games to play, and there are some cool characters. BAD PARTS: The tamagotchi die after getting sick about six times, do be nice, some of the games are harder at the last level, and the characters don't have the same names they used to in the egg toy. TIPS: Play the left/right game to make them happy instead of using snacks, don't bring them to a place where you can't watch them properly, and don't worry about what character you get.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your a tamagotchi fan this is for you
This game brings a whole new way to play and raise your tamagotchi.Unlike in the real things you can train them to become smarter by studying with them and you can train them to be more athletic. Also you can raise 3 Tamagotchis at once making it triple the fun.You can change clock speed to have it go fast or slow and the game automatically saves everything you do so when you turn the game back on you see your tamagotchis exactly as you left them. This is much better than the original tamagotchis and is a must buy for tamagotchi fans. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Half-and-half
It's okay, but I didn't go nuts about it.You have to be in the right mood to be willing to play this. It gets pretty boring after a while. And I ALWAYS turn off the unbeliveably annoying music; I just can't stand digital music. And if you want to go back to the main menu when you're in the middle of a level, you have to turn your entire GameBoy off and then on again. The basic moves are a little boring; Jump, Walk, Duck and Crawl. No white-nuckled shooting at bad guys. In fact, you are helpless; you have to avoid all the enemies instead of defeating them.

Good game to get if you don't have anything to do most of the day.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad
This game is good and bad, fun and flawed, good and not good, so I would have given it a 2.5 but because of some good areas I gave it a three as instead of a two.I think some areas are fun, but some are just downright annoying. So I think you should only get it if you are crazy about Stuart Little.Other than those people I would only recomend if you rented first, because some may end up liking it, but not most people.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best for younger gamers
This game is not for older or experienced gamers.

It is a fine game but the play is somewhat repetative and not so engaging for the grown-up gamer.I expect that younger games would have a good time with this though.

That said the graphics are fine as is the sound. The levels and scenes are laid out so that there is plenty of variety which is always a good thing.

One thing to note is that on some levels the the doorways are hard to see. They look more like someone shining a light in the shape of a door on the wall instead of a real door itself.Once you get used to this, though, it is very clear where the doors are. ... Read more
