    Barbie Pool
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Toy

    Editorial Review

Where does Barbie go to unwind from her hectic schedule of shopping, tanning, and hanging out at her vacation home? Her Waterfall Fantasy Pool, of course. The splashiest element of this setup is the waterfall itself that really works. It's important to note, though, that there are no fancy pumps behind this--you have to actually pour the water yourself. It flows through an opening at the top of the waterfall into the pool, causing flowers to rotate in a festive manner. Other features include the palm tree and the pitcher of some frosty tropical drink (nonalcoholic, we're sure). The pool itself is not exactly heirloom quality, but is perfectly serviceable. Still, you may want to use this outdoors, or somewhere else where spills won't be a problem. Dolls not included. --David Stoesz ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FOR TUB OR SHOWER TIME!!!!
My 5 year old plays with this in the shower. It is perfect for tub time or shower time, because it does get really messy and in the shower and tub there is VERY little clean up time. One reviewer said DO NOT USE ON HARD WOOD FLOORING...which is correct! But this makes all of us happy at shower time...It makes it so I can actually wash my daughter tender head in the shower and barbie gets a little shower too.

5-0 out of 5 stars THis is funny
DONT USE ON WOOD FLOORS! OR SERIOUS FLOOR DAMAGE MIGHT HAPPEN!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun - But Be Prepared For Messes
I bought this for my 4 yr. old daughter during all the snow and ice we had this winter, just to give her something new and different to do while stuck indoors. And what could be more fun during the cold, dark winter days than having an indoor pool party? And, of course, she loves it!She has spent literally hours playing make believe with Barbie (and all kinds of other dolls), and has even had her 6 yr. old brother join in the fun.

However, the only drawback that I found to this toy was that when the kids poured water in the back of the little water slide (like you're supposed to) the water didn't go as much into the pool as it did into the floor.Of course, I expected to have water spilled, so I had towels down - but with them doing this, the towels were drenched in no time at all.So, I had to take the water slide out and just let them play with the pool. So, besides the novelty of actually having a "Barbie" pool, they could have done the same thing with a regular kitchen bowl or even in the bathroom sink.

Still, I don't regret buying this toy, and I think it will be even more fun when it's warm enough to take it outside where the water and the mess won't matter! ... Read more

Barbie of Swan Lake: Barbie as Odette
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Toy
    list price: $19.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Odette, Swan Lake's enchanting and enchanted princess, has never looked less like a water fowl. According to the story, Odetteis spitefully turned into a swan, but here Odette is all-girl from her tiara-topped curls down through her ballet slippers. Her gown, designed with a nod to the famous ballet, is the prettiest a doll could own. It's pink and blue with several sheer layers of skirt and feathery tendrils of fabric that adorn the waist. Barbie also has an ornate, corseted bodice and jeweled choker, but the real showstopper is undoubtedly the glittering plastic wings that light up and flap when the two buttons on the doll's back are pressed. --Diane Beall ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very lovely
I purchased this doll when it first came out but wasn't quick enough to get the Fairy Queen...
She is a very nice doll although her hair gets really messy since it's in that little ponytail. Her wings don't really stay up but oh well. I also got the outfits of when she's the baker's daughter and when she has supper with Daniel but the former is too tight and it ripped so she can't wear it :(

Overall tho, I reccomend (sp?) this doll.

    Thanx for reading

Love Barbie-Odette is a very beautiful one, but the wings have rather pointy tips on them and a 3 year old may poke an eye or hurt themselves on them another way. The crown is flimsy and it broke in half and is still attached to its head. My daughters love them despite it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars KIMONO EDUCATION
This is the first American toy company who didn't make the kimono look like a T'ang period Chinese dress. In which many American Companies do in which shows their lack of education in that department. This kimono is actually a kimono. Different kimono are classified by the type of sleeve on it. In this case this kimono is called a "furisode" (furi- blowing/flowing sode- sleeve) that is still worn by unwed girls/young women today for formal functions. Now since she is going to a public garden and wearing furisode. That means it's New Years or to view the blossoming of cherry or plum blossoms at the beginning of Spring. In which is a formal event. Only during the Meiji Period that the women of the Imperial Family wore Junihitoe on a daily basis. Only time the junihitoe is worn today is during the coronation of a new emperor or the wedding of the emperor or crown prince.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, But More of the Same...
I own two previous Japanese Barbies that also wear traditional kimonos:A "Doll of the World" Japanese Doll that was made around 1996 or 1997; and the New Year's "Oshogatsu" Barbie from 1994 (I think), that was originally produced for sale in Japan only. This new "Princess of Japan" is equal in quality to these older dolls, but there's nothing outstanding about "Princess" in its own right.

Since the doll is mass-produced, the designs on Barbie's kimono are printed (with a rather dull finish), rather than embroidered or brocaded (as would be the case with a real kimono).Of course, to create such designs in an authentic manner would triple or quadruple the price of the doll. You may recognize Barbie's face on the doll; for the past several years Mattel has used this mold repeatedly on many "collectors" dolls to depict Barbies of various ethnicities.I liked it originally, but I've seen it way too many times now!I didn't care for the extremely pale face, either

What we think of today as the kimono is really the final development of centuries of traditional Japanese clothing. There were many other styles of dress available to Japanese women prior to the 20th century; I wish the doll's designers would have chosen one of those alternate outfits (read Liza Dalby's infomative book, "Kimono" for more historical info).

In fact, on the back of "Princess of Japan's" box is a description and illustration of one of those earlier garments, called a "junihitoe" or "twelve layer dress," a rather beatiful and elaborate garment that is still worn today by female members of the Japanese royal family during certain formal occasions.I wish Barbie was wearing one of those!

If "Princess of Japan" Barbie is your first Japanese-themed doll, then I would recommend it.But as a long-time Barbie collector, I want something more outstanding. ... Read more

    Barbie Loves SpongeBob SquarePants
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Toy

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

We're not sure what Barbie sees in SpongeBob SquarePants. After all, she's the most historically significant and perennially popular fashion doll in American history. He's a kitchen sponge who lives under the sea. But, as the title of this toy clearly states, Barbie loves SpongeBob. Maybe she's got more of a sense of humor than we ever thought. She's certainly dressed whimsically enough in a yellow T-shirt with SpongeBob's face boldly emblazoned across it. Her outfit is rounded out with blue SpongeBob print drawstring pants, which would seem to be perfect for a trip to the beach. The beach?! Is she planning, perhaps, to meet SpongeBob himself? All kidding aside, this is a pretty interesting intersection of pop culture phenomena and is probably worth collecting for that reason alone. A SpongeBob charm clip is also included. --John Moe ... My daughters love Barbie and this one is cute dressed up in her Spongebob attire. Comes with a little Spongebob that you could put on a key chain or on a coat zipper.

4-0 out of 5 stars When Icons Collide!
Yes, Barbie is an icon for a number of little girls and grown women.Spongebob has established himself as an up-and-comer and he'll probably stick around for quite some time. How great is it that Mattel slaps both together in a toy that is fun for little girls, especially my little one.She loves Barbie and Spongebob, so it was only natural that I purchase this for her when it came out.

She plays with this toy often, though she plays with Barbie more than the Spongebob clip(can't do much with'im anyway). This is a fun toy that I'm sure many kiddies will love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prettiest Mermaid in the Sea
This mermaid is absolutely beautiful!!! She's a lot of fun to play with. To those who said the tail keeps falling off, you probably didn't push it on all the way. Mine hasn't fallen off at all, I even let the little girl I babysit play with it (she's 3) and it didn't even fall off when she played with it. This is a great doll for a great price!

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Favorite!
Our five year old daughter first received this Barbie for Christmas 2002 when it was brand new.She fell in love with it and played with it constantly. It wore out in November of 2003.We bought her a new one, for christmas of 2003.She's getting older and playing with it harder, and more frequently, playing with it every day in the bathtub and outside...everywhere!The tail snaps off sometimes, but it's easy to snap back on.If you don't dry the hair, sometimes it stinks and needs a good shampoo.Anyway, the second one is about worn out, and we will be buying her a third one for her upcoming sixth birthday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tuning's the trick
Tuning the microphone takes a little work. First you have to set your FM radio to some frequency where there is no station (like 89.5). Next you have to get EXACTLY THE RIGHT WIDTH screwdriver and fiddle with the microphone tuning adjustment. Try saying "la, la, la" repeatedly while turning the screwdriver until you hear yourself on the radio. If, instead, you hear a screeching, it means your radio volume is set too loud or you are too close to the speakers. Once the signal sounds pretty good, CAREFULLY remove the screwdriver being sure not to accidentally twist it a little as you pull it out. After getting the thing tuned, the microphone works pretty well and can broadcast from one side of our house to the other.

1-0 out of 5 stars this toy sucked
Sorry to be blunt, but this was such a disappointment. We tried everything to get this microphone to work without success.Total waste of time and money.

    16 G 2k Bb Bike
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Toy

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Safety first, then cuteness--that's the official Barbie bikechecklist. This 16-inch Barbie 2000 comes through on both counts as areliable tooling-around-the-neighborhood bike. The all-steel framerides on forgiving knobby tires with coaster brakes and detachabletraining wheels for those still learning. Padding on the handlebars, the adjustable seat, and the 18-inch-high top tube provide an extrameasure of comfort and safety. (And while this isn't the sort of bikeyou want out after hours anyway, you might want to consider addingfront, rear, and side reflectors, just in case.) All cutenesscomponents have been comprehensively covered: pink and purple flowerscover the bike, and there are even plastic flowers in the wheels and apicture of Her Divine Pinkness on the front stem. The Barbie 2000 alsocomes with a small backpack (pink, of course) that holds abattery-operated radio for playing tunes on the road. --Paul Hughes ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bike bad radio
When my little daughter received this as her birthday present she was so happy. Then to find out it had a backpack everygirls dream but wait she said there is also a radio. She was over joyed, but upon putting the bike together and taking the radio out to put batteries in it we relized the radio was defective.
So needless to say my daughter was heartbroken. I tried to call and write toys r us.com whom sold the bike they said in order to get he bike back all we had to do was return the bike. Omg we thought how could we,we have already put it together and she loves it. They could not replace the radio due to the fact that they don't carry just the radio. So i called a toys r us store they said that if we bought it there we could return it but since it was online it had to be dealt with online. toysrus online said call the manufacturer. We tried we can never get ahold of them so if you are buying this with the idea of a radio odds are it is not going to work. My husband tried to open it to see the problem the knobs are not even connected they just kinda float on the plastic.Rating 2 based on a childs saddness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value
for the price you can't go wrong. My grandaughter uses this every day and it has held up wonderfully.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poorly-made and dangerous
The chainguard on this bike is made of flimsy plastic, and the main gear is stamped out of very soft metal. It's about as pliable as the lid of a tin can.Any impact to these frail components (casued by a light collision with another bike, for instance) will bend the gear, which will cause the chain to fall off, which will cause the brake to fail. The results could be tragic.Instead of packaging this truly inferior product with all the Barbie frills and a useless backpack and a miserable little radio, the maker could have spenty a few more cents on the parts of the bike itself. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bath Time Fun
After searching the internet for weeks, I finally found this toy at a yard sale minus the Kelly doll/raft. I was leary due to the bad reviews but willing to spend a few bucks. This is by far the best bath toy I have every seen.My two year old loves it. It is bright/colorful.I have had no problems with the toy sticking to the wall.In fact, I keep the toy attached at all times on the back wall of the tub which also allows the toy to dry out between baths. My daughter uses all sorts of her toys to shoot down the slide along with her kelly dolls she already owned. She could spend hours just squeezing the pump and making the fish squirt without sliding anything down the slide at all.Again this makes for great "splashing" fun.I am surprised at the bad reviews.I would have definately spent a lot more than two dollors for this toy even without the doll.Although not very educational, it does teach cause and effect when your child learns that by squeezing the pump the water will squirt. I think people need to keep in mind when purchasing a toy it is just that a toy and to keep their expectations realistic.

3-0 out of 5 stars dissappointed
My 3 yr. old daughter was somewhat dissappointed in this toy, She loved the kelly doll, but i couldn't get the fish to stick to the wall very well, and Kelly didn't slide down the ramp well, or stay on the raft. This was a cute toy, just didn't work the way they said it was suppose to.

3-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time & money.
My sister got this for my daughter when she was about 3 yr. old. It never worked well. It was difficult to get it to stick & then the spray didn't hit the slide right. The little raft quickly got lost(& it held water & mildewed-& so would the doll if left). The whole toy was just very high maintainance for a mom with 3 kids. I don't recommend it. ... Read more

When making toy unicorns, the pressure is pretty much off. After all, if you invent some new attributes for the mythical animal, no one is going to say you got it wrong. With that in mind, this Barbie unicorn is a pretty interesting beast. She's purple with a bluish sparkly mane and big eyelashes. When you push her foot, her hard plastic horn lights up in a variety of colors and she either laughs or speaks one of a number of phrases ("I'm your girl", "Now this is a party"). As you might expect from a magical talking unicorn with a light-up horn, it can be a little annoying for parents but the volume is mercifully low and as long as she's consigned to a bedroom or play room, Mom and Dad should be fine. Like many plush horses, this unicorn lacks the ability to stand up, choosing instead a languorous supine position. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

Any doll can live as a mermaid princess in this Barbie-inspired playset, which includes a high, swinging throne. Two pieces of transparent "coral" hold the comfy throne together, rising from a green pond which can hold water. At least two other dolls can fit into the set. I COLLECT ARIEL DOLLS AND I BOUGHT MERMAID FANTASY DOLL WITH THE PINK HAIR. MY 4 YR OLD SON HAS A CERTAIN FASCINATION WITH THE LITTLE MERMAID ARIEL, SO I TOLD HIM THIS WAS ONE OF HER SISTERS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE DOLL WAS STRANGE, BUT THIS IS NOW A BATHTIME FAVORITE TOY. THE MERMAIDS SWIM AWAY FROM IMAGINARY SHARKS EVERY NIGHT. WHEN YOU SQUEEZE THE HIPS HER KNEES BEND AND THE FIN FLIPS AND FLAPS. SOME REVIEWERS SAID THEY GLUED THE FIN ON, BUT IT WAS MEANT TO COME ON AND OFF. THE FIN IS UNATTACHED WHEN THE DOLL IS NEW IN BOX. I'M GOING TO BUY THE ONE WITH THE ORANGE HAIR TOO. THERE IS ALSO AN AFRICAN AMERICAN CHRISTIE DOLL WITH PURPLE HAIR. THE PLAYSET IS GREAT FOR ME BECAUSE I USE IT AS A DISPLAY FOR MY ARIEL DOLL AND OTHER MERMAIDS THAT ARE "TO LOOK AT ONLY". THE PLAYSET IS BETTER FOR CHILDREN A LITTLE OLDER THAN 4 OR 5, OR ADULT COLLECTORS.

We bought this doll for our 4-year old last year to occupy her during the 16-hour drive to Disneyland. She played with it all the way there, and while we were in Disneyland itself, she asked several times if we could go back to the hotel pool so because she'd rather play with this doll.I got another one for my one-year old daughter and it is just as much of a hit.She survives water play well, despite the long hair. The only fault is that the fin can pop off and get lost.Otherwise, this is the best toy we've ever had in our house.

I haven't bought this playset, and perhaps the person who says it's junky is correct. But, I had to email a comment about the DOLL itself.Someone gave this mermaid doll to my 4-yr old daughter this weekend (without the playset) and she wouldn't put it down for hours!Literally.Plus, she played with it in the bathtub, which was really fun too.So, the DOLL itself is the cool thing.I can't vouch for the playset.Wish this site offered the doll without this (expensive) playset. ... My 3 year old daughter was very excited to receive this beautiful shocking pink flowery backpack with blue trim - she immediately switched to using it instead of her old navy blue snoopy backpack. She had problems opening and closing the bag since the "clasp" requires some strength to press the button to allow the "rope" through to open or close the bag. However, it did provide her with a new learning experience and she managed to learn how to do it herself after a few tries. The bag is also very useful in that it is big enough to hold a number of toys, a drinking cup and even a small book but not too big to be cumbersome. She is not mad keen on the elbow and knee pads though but I think it is because we have only just introduced her to her scooter, and her enthusiasm for the back pack more than balance out her lack of interest in these pads. ... This two-pack gift set from Mattel includes Barbie as the starring princess in her own production of Rapunzel, and this Barbie doll is equipped with a few special features to make it a success. Barbie has long golden ringlets (topped with a removable gold crown), including one section that extends to her young prince when you tug on it. To get Barbie's hair back to a fashionable length, simply pull the string on her back. She's dressed in a sparkling pink and purple gown with opalescent sleeves, a net front-panel overskirt, and lots of gold glitter. She comes with six hair clips, another long blond hair extension that attaches with Velcro, and a plastic pink hairbrush that plays music when you brush her hair.

Prince Stefan is looking regal indeed in this outfit of blue and gold. Press the button on the handsome prince's back, and you'll hear the story of Rapunzel. Stefan asks her to throw down her hair, tells the young maiden he loves her, asks her to accompany him to the masquerade, and blows her a kiss. The snippet of wedding music makes it clear that the couple lives happily ever after. The blond-haired and blue-eyed prince is dressed in a blue top with a cream-colored front panel that's cinched at the waist with a gold belt. His matching pants are the same cream color, while his boots, crown, sword, and shield are all made of gold. He also comes with a mask for the ball. With articulation only in his waist, arms, and neck, he can bow regally, but can't get down on bended knee to propose. ... Read more

Thanks to those of you who reviewed this..I WON'T waste my money.I too remember the good old days when the clasp was metal and you could load up the case and it stayed shut.I'll stick to plastic tubs that click closed and allow you to see inside.Too bad Barbie/Mattel is missing a great money-maker by going cheap on quality!

I was also not happy with this case, it does not stay closed. My daughter just uses it as a closet for her Barbie dolls. She just props it up and fills it with clothes. I'm not sure if I can say another brand name or not but, the Bratz dolls have a case that is soft, zips closed and has pages for the clothes and accessories with transparent plastic pockets that close with velcro and all the clothes and dolls stay put. I wish the company would make a case like that for Barbie. ... Read more
