    Editorial Review

Like a soda pop left open all night, Bueller seems to have lost its effervescence over time. Sure, Matthew Broderick is still appealing as the perennial truant, Ferris, who fakes his parents out and takes one memorable day off from school. Jeffrey Jones is nasty and scheming as the principal who's out to catch him. Jennifer Grey is winning as Ferris's sister (who ends up making out in the police station with a prophetic vision of Charlie Sheen). But there's a definite sense that this film was of a particular time frame: the '80s. It's still fun, though. There's Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" during a Chicago parade, and a lovely sequence in the Art Institute. But don't get it and expect your kids to love it the way you did. Like it or not, it's yours alone. --Keith Simanton ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ferris Bueller
This is a great movie by john hughes. I would reccommend Ferris Bueller's day off to alot of people. Whoever doesn't like it gets shot! lol
5 stars for this great movie

PS: never watch the TV show called Ferris Bueller

5-0 out of 5 stars I was 3 when this movie came out, and I love it!So boo to
the naysayers who seem to think that only someone who was a teen in the 80s will "get it."How could you not get it?It's sarcastic, comic genius. That is, if you have ANY intellect whatsoever and a sense of humor.

I didn't see this movie until I was a senior in high school myself, and I have LOOOVED it ever since. It protrays certain humorous/ridiculous/ironic qualities of being in high school and coming of age--that do NOT change over time. There is nothing in this movie couldn't be understood by a teen of the 90s or 2000s.The only exception would be someone who goes into it thinking "This is a dumb 80s movie," (which by the way, I think is an oxymoron).heheh.:)

1-0 out of 5 stars Borish, overly hyped garbage.
I will forever and always be puzzled as to why people like this movie.I saw it when I was a kid (walked out of the movie due to boredom). I saw it when I was an adult (walked out of the movie due to boredom).I don't remember the plot. All I know is it was one heck of a boring film. Like watching grass grow. Oh.and definitely NOT! funny. If you want to watch a funny classic about some highschool kid being goofy or befuddled I'd recommend - "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" or "Bid and Teds excellent Adventure"."Ferris Bueller's Day Off" rank up on my list as one of the worst popular movies of all times. ... Editorial Review

Even if you've been living on Mars since the 1970s, you've probably heard of Rubik's Cube, the bestselling puzzle in history. Just in case, though, here's a recap: it's a 3-by-3-by-3-inch cube with rotating faces made up of nine squares that can be scrambled into (so it's said) 43 quintillion combinations. Getting the cube back to its original position (so that all nine squares of the same color make up each face) is incredibly challenging for most, though it can be mastered and solved. For those not gifted with superhuman spatial intuition, this mindbender comes with a solution hints booklet, which examines the cube's properties and offers clues for solving the puzzle. Whether it's a difficult toy or retro '80s kitsch you're seeking, Rubik's Cube is for you. --Rob Lightner ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great!
This 3x3 Rubik's cube is a lot easier to solve than the 4x4 one; it is great for even beginners. The Rubik's cube can teach us a lot about patience, creativity, abstract thinking, and the sweet taste of success! However, most people would not consider the endless hours of frustration that comes along with trying to solve a Rubik's cube 'fun'. Keep working at it, and in the end, it would be worth your effort. Trust me. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome!
The rubik's cube is so much fun!at first, i couldn't solve it at all, though i could get the first side.i used the hints and strategies until i memorized them, and now i can solve the cube in little over 5 minutes!it drives my friends insane because none of them can do it ^o^.
I really suggest that you buy this puzzle, as it can keep you entertained no matter how many times you solve it.also, DO NOT peel off the stickers to fix it!!!!!this kid in my class did it to my first cube, and then it was impossible to solve.and it looked really bad, so i tossed it.it's ok to switch the stickers if you do it for the ENTIRE cube, so it's fixed, but it takes a long time, and it's obvious that you cheated.

P.S.buy a cube with instructions if you need them!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Blast from the Past!
I purchased this toy for my daughter for Christmas. She however did not like it.But I did!It took me back to when I was in school and the Rubik's Cube was most played puzzle game.

It's definitely a game that teaches patience, logical and critical thinking skills to try to solve the puzzle of putting the game back together. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

You may be surprised to discover that the director of the Lethal Weapon movies and scary horror flick The Omen, Richard Donner, also produced and directed this classic children's adventure (which, by the way, was written by Donner's screen-wizard friend Steven Spielberg). Then again you may not. The Goonies, like Donner's other movies, is the same story of good versus evil. It has its share of bad guys (the Fratelli brothers and their villainous mother), reluctant-hero good guys (the Walsh bothers and their gang of friends), and lots of corny one-liners. Like in an old-fashioned Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew plot, the Goonies need to solve a problem: a corrupt corporate developer has bought out their neighborhood and plans to flatten all their homes. Luckily, the beloved gang stumbles on a treasure map. In the hopes of finding the treasure to buy back their houses, the Goonies embark on their quest through underground passages, aboard pirate ships, and behind waterfalls. This swashbuckling and rollicking ride was also a great breeding ground for a couple of child actors who went on to enjoy numerous successes in adulthood: Sean Astin (Rudy, Encino Man) and Martha Plimpton (Pecker, 200 Cigarettes). --Samantha Allen Storey ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Goonies
The Goonies has been my all time favorite movie since I saw it when it first aired on t.v.

It is a magical movie about a group of friends who are about to lose their houses to make way for a golf course. They find a map linked to a pirate legend and are on their way to an amazing journey. They discover the meaning of true friends (and some pirates and treasure too!)

I would recommend this movie to anyone, regardless if you are a kid or an adult. This movie rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Chunk is a GOD!
Chunk the fat(over weight) child in the film is one of the most hill-air-ous characters ever captured on film by a major movie company!

5-0 out of 5 stars Indiana Jones for kids...
Brainchild of cinematic genius Steven Spielberg, The Goonies is a thrilling fantasy adventure film for younger audiences - although adults will find it enjoyable as well. Foreshadowing the success of the Harry Potter films, The Goonies involves a series of tests and obstacles that a group of young kids must overcome in order to save the day. In a lot of ways, the film is like an Indiana Jones for kids - produced in such a way that kids can envision or fantasize about being in just such a situation.

The film follows the exploits of a neighborhood group of kids who call themselves The Goonies. Upset that they will soon have to part ways because of the forced commercial development of their neighborhood, the kids are enjoying what they believe will be one of their last meetings together.

But while Mikey, Chunk, Mouth, and Data (the nicknames of the Goonies respectively) are exploring Mikey's attic, they find a treasure map hidden in the back of an old picture frame. Purportedly, the map leads to the long lost treasure of the famous pirate "One-Eyed" Willy. Banding together with Mikey's older brother Brandon and two neighborhood girls, Andy and Stef, the group sets out to uncover the pirate's vast riches and thus save their homes from the wrath of the wrecking ball.

But a small problem stands in their way. The treasure map's starting point rests underneath an old abandoned house used as a hideout by the notorious Fratelli crime family. Brothers Jake and Francis, coupled with their deformed yet gentle brother and mean Mama Fratelli, are quite an intimidating force. When the Goonies manage to uncover the entrance to the cave that harbors their treasure, Chunk is left behind. The Fratelli's viciously interrogate the boy in an effort to find out what happened to his friends. But it takes a freak accident (spilled water falling down the hole in the fireplace) before they find One-Eyed Willy's secret passage.

With the Fratelli family hot on their heals, the Goonies must pass through a series of mental and physical obstacles set up centuries before by pirates intent on keeping undesirables away from their precious bounty. Interspersed in the action is a number of clever and humorous one-liners that add to the overall audience enjoyment of the film.

In the end, the kids discover One-Eyed Willy's monstrous treasure. But can they stave off the greedy ambitions of the Fratelli family? Will they manage to save their neighborhood with the newfound treasure? You'll have to watch to find out, and trust me, this movie is a lot of fun...

Each of the stars contributes to the film in his own way. Chunk provides many moments of comic relief with his endless whining, and Data's constant deployment of quirky homemade inventions, although stretching the limits of reality, are a welcome addition to a fantasy adventure film tailored for a young audience.

With the introduction of The Goonies DVD, an entirely new generation can discover the thrill and wonder of this instant cinema classic. Given its wide range of appeal to audiences of all ages and the exciting quest for hidden treasure, The Goonies passes the test as a definite must-see film. If you haven't seen it, or even worse - if your children have been deprived of seeing it - then I highly recommend renting this one...

    Editorial Review

John Hughes's popular 1985 teen drama finds a diverse group of high school students--a jock (Emilio Estevez), a metalhead (Judd Nelson), a weirdo (Ally Sheedy), a princess (Molly Ringwald), and a nerd (Anthony Michael Hall)--sharing a Saturday in detention at their high school for one minor infraction or another. Over the course of a day, they talk through the social barriers that ordinarily keep them apart, and new alliances are born, though not without a lot of pain first. Hughes (Sixteen Candles), who wrote and directed, is heavy on dialogue but he also thoughtfully refreshes the look of the film every few minutes with different settings and original viewpoints on action. The movie deals with such fundamentals as the human tendency toward bias and hurting the weak, and because the characters are caught somewhere between childhood and adulthood, it's easy to get emotionally involved in hope for their redemption. Preteen and teenage kids love this film, incidentally. The DVD release includes production notes, cast and crew bios, widescreen presentation, Dolby sound, closed captioning, optional French and Spanish soundtracks, and optional Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! JK GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
once upon a time i watched it. but then i didnt cuz my dad is overprotective. the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie Sucks Bad!!! (And It IS NOT An 80's "Classic")
This movie concerns 5 teenage losers who are forced to spend a Saturday morning in Detention. Here we have the Jock, The Geek Nerd, the Prom Queen, the very weird Social Outcast and the Metal Freak. Theselosers argue and bicker a lot and take no responsibilty for their shortcomings and blame their parents for the sad state of their lives which is a very convenient teenage "cop out". Somewhere along the way the Jock "hooks up" with the Social Outcast after she is given a Rikki Lake type of makeover and the Prom Queen "hooks up" with the Metal Freak!!! Gimme a break. These 5 losers wouldn't be seen dead socializing with each other. The only two notes that ring true in this movie is the Geek doesn't get to hook up with anybody and he also has to write all of their essays!!!In real life they would have also beaten the crap out of him if he didn't do their homework for them. I give this movie 5 stars because (yet again) Hollywood has tried very hard to portray Fantasy as a Reality. What I really want to know is just where John Hugh's High School was located ? Pleasantville perhaps?

5-0 out of 5 stars An emotionally charged 80's masterpiece!!!
"The Breakfast Club" is one of the finest representations of emotion portrayed through images and music that I have ever seen.Five people from completely different angles are able to break down the walls of popularity, prejudice, and judgment, and come together as friends. If all films were made like this, the world would be in better condition than it is today. ... With Simon 2, thenext generation of the classic electronic sequencing game, players can play thetraditional Simon challenges against the machine or they can turn over the unitfor head-to-head play with a human opponent. All seven games are variations onthe ingenious original: an ever-increasing sequence of signals, denoted by theflashing and beeping colored buttons, must be repeated by alternating opponents.Complete with nonscuff rubber feet, and powered by three AA batteries (notincluded), Simon 2 features adjustable skill levels on most of the games (asequence of as few as eight or as many as 31, for example). The buttons get stuck after very little use, they are hard to push for little hands, unit gets stuck and will NOT turn off.It just starts making noise while just laying there. There is no way to just turn it off without removing the batteries. Not at all happy with this toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Homeschool Tool
As I type this message, my husband is playing Simon2 with our two oldest children, ages 3 and 4. They have been at it over an hour and are still having a blast!

As a homeschooling family, we look for toys that will reinforce skills that we are teaching, challenge our children and that are fun! This toy has it all! Even my youngest, who just turned 2 enjoys playing this game. He is too young to really understand it, but loves the lights and music!

The older children benefit from having an adult speak the color pattern out as they play, such as, "blue, blue, yellow, etc". We've found it to meet the needs of all learning styles when used in this way! I would definately recommend this toy to other families! And an added bonus, is that it's fun for the parents to pass the time with as well.

Lite Brite offers a whole new dimension to creative play with the latest rendition: the Lite Brite Cube. While the space to create on is a bit smaller, artists now have four pegged panels into which they can poke colors. The cube requires adult assembly, but once that’s done, it’s just like you remember. Choose a design sheet from the eight included--or go freeform with solid black paper--and start plugging colored pegs into their respective spots. Over 500 pegs are included in a rainbow of colors, and the cube has two drawers to store them in. (These drawers fall out quite easily and can cause a mess of spilled pegs, so be careful when transporting.) New to the peg world are Power Pegs--up to four of the same colored peg molded together for quicker completion. The Lite Brite Cube has a blue plastic handle at the top so artwork can be carried around (and shown off) easily. --Pam Lauer ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment from alongtime Lite Brite fan...
I am a (...)college student at the University of Pennsylvania and I recently received the Lite Brite Cube as a gift from my dear mother. It was a wonderful gift idea, as I have always loved Hasbro's Lite Brite series of play things. When I first opened the Lite Brite Cube on that magical morning in May, my eyes filled with tears. These were not tears of sadness mind you, but tears of pure joy.I had a feeling my mother would get me the Lite Brite Cube, but it wasn't until it was sitting there in front of me, shining with all its beautiful lights and colors, that I knew it was for real.My mother really loved me, she knew the Lite Brite Cube was my only desire -- my only love.

Once I wiped away the tears and took a nap with my mother to calm down, I used the Lite Brite Cube for the first time and, I must say, I was extremely disappointed by the overall quality of this particular product. In years past, I have always used my Lite Brite to make pictures of my favorite things in life: flowers, bunny rabbits, and especially, CANDY!!I love CANDY!But whenever I tried to make pictures of CANDY on the Lite Brite Cube, the black coating would peel off and cause me extreme discomfort. It got to the point where I couldn't even use the Lite Brite Cube, for the discomfort it cause me was so severe.I began losing control of my bodily functions every time I so much as thought about the Lite Brite Cube -- all because of the disappointment I was feeling at a crucial element of my youth ruined by the corporate codfeathers who designed the Lite Brite Cube.

While I recommend the original Lite Brite(Tm) to any mother looking for the perfect gift for her college son, I simply cannot give my reccomendation to the Lite Brite Cube.I'm sorry......very, very sorry.I love you mom.

3-0 out of 5 stars The good news and the bad news....
I have a six year old daughter who is a calm player. She has two wild child friends who are very destructive, ages seven and ten. The Good News:
One rainy day I pulled out one of her Christmas gifts: the four sided LITE BRITE CUBE and they all played very nicely and quietly for an hour or two. Believe it or not none of them had ever seen a LITE BRITE before! I thought "What a gem....a great toy IMPROVED UPON by making it four sided so a bunch of kids can all play at once with very little "Gimmee! Gimmee!" (they tryed to fight over colored pegs...but there are little shelves to hold the pegs in nicely).
    The bad news:
The pages went very quickly! And I'm havin a devil of a time finding refills. I asked my friends "Do they make them? They must!" Well, searching online I found out they DO indeed make them (in popular pictures like SCOOBY DOO and SPONGEBOB) but, man oh man, they cost about $5.99 for 8 sheets!!! Thats too much! For $5.99 you should at least get, say, TWENTY sheets!!!

    Editorial Review

Screenwriter William Goldman's novel The Princess Bride earnedits own loyal audience on the strength of its narrative voice and its gently satirical, hyperbolic spin on swashbuckled adventure that seemed almost purely literary. For all its derring-do and vivid over-the-top characters, the book's joy was dictated as much by the deadpan tone of its narrator and a winking acknowledgement of the clichés being sent up. Miraculously, director Rob Reiner and Goldman himself managed to visualize this romantic fable while keeping that external voice largely intact: using a storytelling framework, avuncular Grandpa (Peter Falk) gradually seduces his skeptical grandson (Fred Savage) into the absurd, irresistible melodrama of the title story.

And what a story: a lowly stable boy, Westley (Cary Elwes), pledges his love to the beautiful Buttercup (Robin Wright), only to be abducted and reportedly killed by pirates while Buttercup is betrothed to the evil Prince Humperdinck. Even as Buttercup herself is kidnapped by a giant, a scheming criminal mastermind, and a master Spanish swordsman, a mysterious masked pirate (could it be Westley?) follows in pursuit. As they sail toward the Cliffs of Insanity...

The wild and woolly arcs of the story, the sudden twists of fate, and, above all, the cartoon-scaled characters all work because of Goldman's very funny script, Reiner's confident direction, and a terrific cast. Elwes and Wright, both sporting their best English accents, juggle romantic fervor and physical slapstick effortlessly, while supporting roles boast Mandy Patinkin (the swordsman Inigo Montoya), Wallace Shawn (the incredulous schemer Vizzini), and Christopher Guest (evil Count Rugen) with brief but funny cameos from Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and Peter Cook. --Sam Sutherland ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a classic worth keeping
this is the best spoof i have ever seen.Hands down.
it is hilarious, witty, and set to a quick pace.Highly recomended.
it never occoured to me that this movie takes place in the mediterrenean until i read the book.Makes sense. You've got a turk, a sicilian, and a spaniard.Other than that, there's no historical or otherwise geographical accuracy in the book.I've watched the black and white version recorded on tv since i was a little kid, and i love this version and the story overall.the sicilian aforetomentioned is hilarious, especially in his efforts to prove his superiority of intelligence.
A grandfather comes over to his grandson's house to read him the book of this story to give him something else to do besides play baseball on super nentendo.Thier commentary is pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything for Everyone
This is currently my favorite movie, ever. Considering it was released in 1987, that says something.

The movie is tight; every line, every shot, every pause is there for a reason. There are no slow boring parts. The cast is flawless, everyone excellent, the perfect representation of their characters. The characters themselves are well-developed, despite this being a fairy tale.

The story has everything. It's hilarious, full of adventure, and has romance and drama too. You don't even miss the latest special effects; the out of date obviously fake effects work well with the overall character of the moving. What could you possibly want that it doesn't have?

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic, and rightfully so
"The Princess Bride" is an offbeat fairy tale adventure that seems to have found its way into "cult classic" status. More often than not, you'll find it on someone's list of favorite movies.

The story is told primarily through the imagination of a young boy, whose grandfather has come over to read to him while he is sick in bed. At first the boy is reluctant to hear the story, worried that it's nothing more than a "kissing book", but soon he (along with us, the audience) is sucked into the action.

And what action. To paraphrase the summation included in one of the promotional items on the DVD, "she gets kidnapped, he gets killed, but somehow things turn out all right in the end." In between there are daring swordfights, dashing pirates, wicked princes, gentle giants, ROUSes, evil geniuses and miracle men. Puns and one line jokes abound. There's really not a dull moment to be found in this movie. What romance there is shouldn't classify the film as a "chick flick" because Buttercup and Westley aren't really your absolutely sickeningly perfect couple, though it is cool that the film sends the message that true love conquers all.

This is one movie sets out to provide something for everyone, and it completely succeeds in reaching that goal.

    Editorial Review

As with Grease (1978) and Footloose (1984) before it,Dirty Dancing was a cultural phenomenon that now plays more like camp. That very campiness, though, is part of its biggest charm. And if the dancing inthe movie doesn't seem particularly "dirty" by today's standards--or 1987's--itdoes take place in an era (the early '60s) when it would have. Frances "Baby"Houseman (Jennifer Grey, daughter of ageless hoofer Joel Grey) has beenvacationing in the Catskills with her family for many years. Uneventfully. Onesummer, she falls under the sway (as it were) of dance instructor Johnny Castle(Patrick Swayze). Baby is a pampered pup, but Johnny is a man of the world.Baby's father, Jake (Law and Order's Jerry Orbach), can't see the basicdecency in greaser Johnny that she can. It should come as no surprise to findthat Baby, who can be as immature as her name, learns more about love and life--and dancing--from free-spirited Johnny than traditionalist Jake.

Dirty Dancing spawned two successful soundtracks, a short-lived TVseries, and a stage musical. It may be predictable, but Grey and Swayze havechemistry, charisma, and all the right moves. It's a sometimes silly movie withoccasionally mind-boggling dialogue--"No one puts Baby in a corner!"--thatnonetheless carries an underlying message about tolerance and is filled with thekind of exuberant spirit that's hard for even the most cynical to resist. Notthat they'd ever admit it. --Kathy Fennessy ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie and soundtrack!
I just saw this again for the umpteenth time, and it just gets better. I enjoy this film for the acting, but moreso for the music. This movie will hit all of your emotions, and you will laugh, cry or both. A classic, and must see! One of, if not the best film of 1987.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music & Dancing
This movie has a formula summer romance and great sexy dancing. Dirty dancing means close sexy dancing with wonderful dancing music. Seven new songs were written specifically for the movie. Jimmy Lenner, the executive producer of the soundtrack, wanted to make sure that the new songs had their emotional roots in the early sixties. To him, this was imperative in making the music blend seamlessly into the film. The new songs needed to be as immediate and poignant in 1987 as they would have been in 1963. The new songs included "The Time Of My Life", "Hungry Eyes", "You Don't Own Me", "Where Are You Tonight", and "She's Like The Wind."

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Movie!
Dirty Dancing is a classic that is absolutely wonderful!Everything about this movie is perfect in that there is no part that you are not sucked into these people's lives!I absolutely fell in love with it from the first time I watched it in the 1980's.I have the original VHS still and had to upgrade to DVD as it would not be right not owning a great movie.I controversies were a great point...pregnancy being such one.I also enjoy the forbidden love with Swayze and Grey-as they have great online chemistry. The movie is set in 1963 so the music and clothes are also great to watch.I like when Baby stumbles upon the "dirty dancing" club.It is great. I like the fact that they don't try and play 1963 as innocent.Over-all a classic for any fan of the movie back in the late 80's and early 90's. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) pulled a winning movie out of this almost self-consciously archetypal tale of teenage rock rebellion. Kevin Bacon stars as a hip city kid who ends up in a Bible-belt town after his parents divorce. An ill fit for a conservative community where rock is frowned upon and dancing is forbidden, Bacon's character rallies the kids and takes on the establishment. Between a good cast really embracing the drama of Dean Pitchford's screenplay, and Ross's imaginative, highly charged way of shooting the dance numbers, you can get lost in this all-ages confection, and you won't even mind Kenny Loggins's bubbly pop. Bonuses include one of John Lithgow's best performances (a bit reminiscent of Jimmy Stewart), and Christopher Penn (who sure doesn't look the same anymore) as a good-natured hick who learns to boogie. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I'd Like To Boogie Woogie With Ms. Singer!!!!
This movie stars Kevin Bacon who plays the new guy in a small overtly religious town. Rock music and dancing is forbidden in this town due to a tragedy that occurred years ago. Gee. Sounds like a fun place to visit.Remind me not to take my Gibson guitar and Marshall stack to this place. Kevin Bacon is well supported in this movie by the gorgeous Ms. Lori Singer who plays the town Preacher's daughter with a rebellious streak. This movie takes me back to a better time when albums were released on black vinyl. For all you younger people reading this those are the thin round things that your Dad owns. This movie also takes me back to the days before some ambitious no talent guy who couldn't sing wanted to be a STAR anyway and invented Rap .This fun movie has fine acting, good looking guys and girls PLUS a great soundtrack!!! What more could you ask for except a date with Ms. Singer?

1-0 out of 5 stars My sister Barb's favorite movie
...and Bacon isn't just for breakfast anymore! LOL Well, anyway, this move is pretty bad.The homoerotic overtones are about as subtle as a car crash...the church's close-minded response to the young man, who only wants to take his buddy out in the fields or in the empty gym and hold his hands and gyrate to "Let's Hear It For the Boy" man alive, give me a break! At least they weren't wearing leg warmers, which is about the only 80's fashion statement they failed to use and overuse in this flick.Sarah Jessica Parker shows us early on how un-talented she is, and the final scene, where kids who have heretofore never danced are able to look like the trendsetters on "Soul Train"- whatever genius thought this script up should definitely look into another line of work.I hear McDonalds is hiring.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST movie ever!!!!!!

    Editorial Review

Based on Jill Murphy's book, this charming movie is setin an English boarding school for witches--complete with orange and blackschool uniforms, broom-flying exercises, and potion assignments for lab. The incompetent student of the title, Mildred, is played by a fetching youngFairuza Balk.Diana Rigg is the nasty head teacher, Tim Curry the (oddly) idolized GrandWizard, and TV's Facts of Life maven Charlotte Rae does double duty as the school's kindly dean and her evil witch twin, who's bent on taking over theschool. Directed by Robert Young, this 68-minute video features less thanstate-of-the-art effects and several songs that stop the action--mostbizarrely an outdoor assembly performance by Curry that turns into a weirdmusic video. Still, preteen girls will identify with the beleaguered heroine who overcomes her wickedly snooty rival, a teacher who doesn't believe in her, and a band of dastardly witches and, of course, saves the day. 5-0 out of 5 stars "Spook-tacular!"
I adored this movie!Fairuza Balk is a very believable young, klutzy witch named Mildred Hubble. One of my favorite quotes in this movie is "Mildred Hubble, the disaster area!!" Tim Curry is fabulous as usual cast as the Grand Wizard! The special effects in the film are not too cheesy either.Great pick for a Halloween movie that's not too scary!

5-0 out of 5 stars Growing Up Isn't Easy ...
Especially for first year student Mildred Hubble. Not only is she having trouble with her studies and flying lesson's, but she has to deal with trouble maker Ethel Hallow and a very hard teacher Miss Hardbroom. As she tries to prove herself again and again she keeps getting herself into sticky situations and a boat load of trouble.

I loved this movie since I was very little and I remember it in the 80's which is my favorite decade. So this movie has very fond memories for me that I enjoy watching and loving today. The graphics are a bit cheesy as well as the music. But I'm sure that children and adults will love this fun classic film based on the popular books by Jill Murphy. It was also made into a popular and fun TV series.

I mainly adore and love the cast: Fairuza Balk (Return To Oz/The Craft) as Mildred Hubble, Diana Rigg as Miss Hardbroom, Charlette Rae (The Facts Of Life) as Miss Cackle and as her evil sister Agatha, Anna Kipling as Ethel Hallow, Danielle Batchelor as Maud Warlock (Mildred's best friend) and most of all my all time favorite Tim Curry as The Grand Wizard who does a fun singing performance of a Halloween number!

I was really excited to see this finally arrive on DVD. I have the Video which I found through Amazon and I also was very happy to get the DVD from Amazon as well. The DVD itself is very clear as well as the sound. Again the graphics are cheesy for that time, but I believe it was made for TV. I also remember first seeing this movie on HBO. It has jump to scene, cast biographies/trivia all in the extra's section plus a really fun menu to navigate through.

Besides I think we all feel a little like Mildred growing up ...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Witch (The Movie) 100 Times Better than the Series
The girl that played Mildred Hubble was perfect for the role. She's enchanting especially when she's clumsy. Her wit and charm will keep you spell bound.
The girl in the TV Series however leaves a sour taste in your mouth. When I bought the first video, by mistake, thinking that it was the original movie, I could not wait to get rid of it. I did not want this eyesore to contaminate my collection.
If you want quality and to have a great time, get the original, The Worst Witch (The Movie) and get it on DVD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Sixteen Candles marked the directing debut of John Hughes, and its goofy energy displayed a promising talent with a great ear for high school lingo ... a promise neglected since Hughes became, after Home Alone, a one-man entertainment industry. There are some pretty crass moments (Why the stereotype of the foreign-exchange student from Asia?), but Ringwald's steady appeal smoothes over the rough spots. As the pubescent, self-styled lady-killer, Anthony Michael Hall turns in a hilarious portrait of a young swinger; he and Ringwald would reteam with Hughes for The Breakfast Club, another key teen picture of the decade. --Robert Horton ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is getting good
Revolutionary in its time, now it plays just as well; however you spend a lot of time thinking about this is where it all started. We all have our favorite parts and people. What is that at the fountain? No it can't be, Joan Cusack? And this is the last time you will see Jamie Gertz on the bench.

You will have to watch it several times to take it all in.
    ------------------------------------

It is a double due for Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald). It is her birthday and the school dance. Tomorrow her sister is getting married. So Grand Parents are converging with their grandparent quirks.

Turns out hat Samantha like Jake who is going with Caroline. Mean time back at the dance other agendas arise with the geeks challenging Farmer Ted (a young Anthony Michael Hall) to do it with Samantha or fork over several floppies. We see parties and their aftermath. In the end can Farmer Ted place all the people where they belong? In the mean time he says, "This, is getting good."

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
If you grew up in the '80s like I did, you probably have seen every John Hughes movie he made during that decade. I literally grew up on a staple of John's films, namely "Pretty in Pink", "Weird Science", "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles". I still love those movies to this very day, especially "Sixteen Candles". Molly Ringwald as Samantha Baker who hasan unrequited crush on the most popular guy in school Jake Ryan (played by the Matt Dillon look-alike Michael Shoeffling). What makes this film hilarious is that her family forgets her birthday while they are consumed with her sister's impending nuptials, her grandparents who are staying with the family with their foreign studen exchanged student Long Duc Dong, and the geek who won't go away played by the hilarious Anthony Michael Hall. Chaos and non-stop laughs ensues. John Cusak and his sister Joan makes a cameo appearance. One of the funniest moments is when the family is about to go to the church for the wedding and they find Long Duc Dong passed out on the front lawn after a heavy night of partying. Not a very politically correct moment in cinema history but it sure is hilarious. My also favorite Long Duc Dong moment was when greets Sam from the top bunk bed in Sam's brother's room. I have never gotten tired of watching this movie. Teen comedies today just don't have the same comedic punch or innocence that John Hughes' films always had. Films like "Sixteen Candles' really captured the era that I grew up in.

3-0 out of 5 stars Why does my VHS say "PG" and amazon say "R"?
Truthfully this should probably be rated PG-13.Anyway, this is kind of your typical 80's teenage angst movie. The main character, Samantha, is your typical over-dramatic teenager. The guy she has a crush on, Jake, is a total babe.Michael Anthony Hall, the geek, is pretty hysterical. All in all a decent flick with some pretty good laughs.Joan and John Cusack provide some pretty random chuckles in one of their first films. ... The girl with the striped moonboots and royal-blue epaulets is back from the 1980s to save the world for a new generation of young viewers. This time the gal, her rainbow-tailed horse Starlite, and her sidekick sprite Twink must face down a selfish princess who has stolen the biggest diamond in the universe, preventing light from reaching the world, and sending earth into a neverending winter. (Don't try to justify the plot from a scientific standpoint.) The rerelease of this 1985 production marks the relaunching of the Rainbow Brite franchise, following the successful returns of other '80s era cartoon characters like Care Bears and My Little Pony. Nostalgic young parents will revel in the big hair and big shoulders, and little ones will just enjoy the pretty horses and the colors. When one considers the great sculptor Michelangelo, "wacky comedy" is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. But in the ever-unusual world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michelangelo is the comic relief character. He can still take care of himself in a scrap, though: He is here equipped with two nunchakus along with two ninja throwing stars. Also included is a rappelling hook set-up that’s perfect for escaping dangerous situations. Parents may wish to consider discussing the notion of "cartoon violence" versus "actual violence" before handing a child a toy of a turtle that uses deadly weapons. The range of motion here is limited, but that can be overlooked. After all, even though they’re teenagers and ninjas, they’re still turtles. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

Well, this is Mikey, a really carefree dude. If his happy-go-lucky attitude doesn't amaze you, his quick fighting style will for sure. I mean, he can be a joker and all, but he can really pack a punch when he has to. This action figure will show that I'm right. So, Turtles' fans, get your very own quickly! COWABUNGA!

    5-0 out of 5 stars Turtles Are Great ! ! !
12 - 15 Years ago Turtles were very popular toys... It is Great to see them come back on the shelf and available. After ordering I recieved the product quickly in GOOD condition and was able to get free shipping on 4/07/2003. This toy appears that it should only be played by those who can safely use action figures that have small parts.

Master Of The Universe Heroic Warriors: Smash Blade He-man
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars

    Editorial Review

The old Masters of the Universe action figures featured good guy characters who, while certainly committed to defeating evil, never seemed all that upset about their crusade. But in the new generation of figures, He-Man in particular looks downright furious. I guess twenty years of pursuing Skeletor will do that to a guy. Apparently, it's also given him plenty of time to work out because 6-1/2-inch He-Man is flat out ripped. This new musculature will come in handy while lifting a 5-inch sword, a big shield, or his snazzy smash blade, which is a set of three spiky balls that can spin around on a single stick. He-Man can swivel at the hips with a springy action that makes swinging his weapons look even more intimidating. He'll need those tools, his new muscles, and all that pent-up annoyance to counter his funny looking getup though: fuzzy blue briefs and boots along with gold wristbands. --Charlie Williams ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Repaints..always a controversy
Well, he's the same as the first He-man except for two things: first, the color; second, his axe is replaced by a spinning weapon. I'll focus on the changes...the new color is actually neat. The new weapon isn't that great. It spins. Whoopee. That's it. Maybe if the spin weapon was bigger and maybe more complex, this figure might be better. Basiclly, it's a nice repaint, so if your not a hardcore fan, save your green for a "newer" figure. Mildly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars They finally listed it!
They took a while to list the Series 2 figures, but they finally did. This is the most common one in store shelves, all of the others are hard to find. Anyway, this is the same figure as the He-Man from the first series but he has on blue clothes, not brown and he has a spinning blade that looks like it has 3 maces on it insted of the axe. He also has a different colored sword and shield than the original one, too. Overall, it is a good toy but I was wishing for a different figure. ... Read more

    Unicron

    Editorial Review

All the Transformers must think it's pretty cool that they can transform themselves from a robot into, say, an airplane or a tank or a bus or whatever. We're sure they feel pretty powerful and intimidating when they pull off that neat trick. But compared to what Unicron can do, well, we're afraid that's small potatoes. Because Unicron can turn into a planet. That's right, a planet. You heard me: a planet. In the lore of Transformers, Unicron is long thought to be merely a legend until he shows up bent on taking over and the heroic Autobots must team up with the evil Decepticons to defeat him. Though it's difficult to rival the feat of turning into a planet, Unicron is pretty impressive as a robot as well, with glowing eyes and fist and three spring-loaded missiles. He even has a sidekick, Dead-End, who fits neatly inside Unicron's leg. --Charlie Williams ... Read more
