4-0 out of 5 stars very good game
This is one of the best tennis games you will find on a 16-bit game system! In fact, it`s one of the best tennis games on ANY system. In this game you will see, plenty of aces, player control is great, you get plenty of angle on your shots, you get different shot types like slice, lob, top spin, the serves are very effective in this game! So be prepared to see some aces! But this is one thing that makes JCT GREAT! It is actually an advantage to serve. In some tennis games its not an advantage to serve but in Capriati tennis it is, just like it is in REAL tennis! The way this game plays is the best thing about JCT!

Only a few things keep it from being a perfect 5. The net game is just too hard to pull off. when you go to the net you usually get passed. And using different shot types is harder when you`re at the net. the other thing is- you only get Capriati`s name. None of the other players are real. but they look like real pro`s and they have silly names like Supras instead of Sampras, it`s kind of funny. And yes, you can play as a man or a woman. The men do play better in this game. So this is a nice option. GREAT GAME! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tennis game for the genesis!

3-0 out of 5 stars Thirty-Love, not in Capriati's favor!
Whoa! Renovation must have made this on a low budget! The characters are harder to control than a truck without a steering wheel. Get a life and play some real tennis!! ... Read more

Mia Hamm Soccer 64
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Game Cartridge (10 November, 2000)

Editorial Review

In the past, putting superstar athletes on the covers of gameshas met with mixed results, because money normally earmarked for gamedevelopment is often used to acquire a high-profile license.Thankfully, Mia Hamm Soccer 64 doesn't fall into this trap. Whatwe have here is a solid title that offers up plenty of in-your-facesoccer action with one of today's hottest athletes.

Mia has her own all-star team in the U.S. League portion of the game, and she offers gamers soccer advice from time to time. Her tips rangefrom the technical (such as curving the ball) to the strategic (exactlywhat kind of defensive formation you should be using when you are inthe lead).

Silicon Dreams and Digital Creations Studios developed Mia HammSoccer 64. They seem to have borrowed the look from Konami'sInternational Superstar Soccer and some of the touch passing andball physics from EA Sports' FIFA franchise.

The game has five different modes of play: quick start, exhibitiongame, season, cup tournament, and practice. In the practice mode, youcan shore up your throw-ins, corner kicks (which will allow you toperfect the header), or bicycle kick into the back of the net.

But the biggest gripe here is that the game's artificial intelligenceis not up to snuff. Of course, simply playing the game with friends canrectify this, but the fault can be frustrating for the single scorer. But then, just as in a real game of soccer, getting shots on goal andscoring can be challenging.

Mia Hamm Soccer 64 is a great starter game for female gamers whowant to see their idol and soccer fans who just want to plug it in andstart playing. --Todd Mowatt

Pros:

  • Solid gameplay that doesn't rely on Mia Hamm's star appeal alone todeliver the goods
  • A great starter title for soccer fans and girl gamers looking for asports role model
Cons:

  • Suspect artificial intelligence
  • Some graphical slowdown when many players are in the frame at onetime

2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept, but a failed project
I am an avid supporter of female athletes. That is why I decided to give Mia Hamm Soccer 64 a try. Unfortunately, unlike Mia Hamm, this game falls very short in execution: the controls are stiff, the announcer (with all due respect to Wendy) is too repetative, the graphics have a very low polygon count, and every athlete looks the same except for skin color. I admire South Peak Interactive for making what is apparently the second sports video game to star a woman (the first is Jennifer Capriatti Tennis for Sega Genesis), but they should have done more to make this game fun to play. Here's hoping they try again, but this time REALLY TRY.

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs some adjustment
There are somethings that are hard to figure out when playing multi-players on the basic level: 1.On a goal kick because of the score bar at the bottom of the page, it is hard to tell which player has control of the goalie to take the kick. 2.Can't switch between players very easily. 3.If a yellow or red card is given, you can't tell which card is given. 4.If a player has a card, you can't tell which player it is, if you want to sub them off. If anyone knows how to fix this stuff or work around it, let me know.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game Kicks
This game makes women's soccer better than ever before. This game has great graphics. It's not some dumb game where you preset the plays and basically watch the whole time.It is also good because you can set the controller on one of two levels:regular and pro.You can change the time of day, the weather, the climate, and the stadium you are playing at.There is a HUGE selection of teams, too.It gets all five stars in my book! ... Beach Spikers offers intense beach volleyball action for up tofour players. The game showcases beautiful female athletes as they battle it outunder the fierce summer sun. Gamers will have to cooperate and compete as theytake control of bikini-clad beauties and go two-on-two at the net. Players mustperfect their timing and polish their technique as they take on World Tour mode, but first they should use the tutorial mode to round out their skills. Othermodes include arcade and exhibition. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
The game over all is pretty good. My only problem is when you think you got a good handle on the ball, it goes in an opposite direction. The gameplay is pretty good, the girls are hot, and four player mode is alot of fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Ogle: Professional Athletes At Work
Like some of the other reviewers, I had to try every Beach Volleyball game on every format before declaring Spikers as my favorite. What surprises me about some of the other reviewers is that many of them are not into sports games, yet Spikers is the most professional sports title of this genre with simpler play features.
Anyone can play using the A/B buttons and basic punt/set/spike rules, just like many old arcade games.Sounds like that can get boring, but the game gets harder and faster as it progresses and it does have some alluring features that go beyong rubbing suntan oil on your digital partner.

Character design is basic, unlike the other VB games. You have only one athletic body design but can create players with over 70 faces and 100 outfits and skin tone. The mini games may not be as fun as the minis in the other VB games, but at least Capture The Flag and Beach Bomb are authentic beach games.Maybe the developers could include Dodgeball and Combat Kiting in the next version(...). Sure the music and the announcer are lame, but who says you have to listen to anything more than replay spike knocking down your opponent (...) with full bass THX.

Franchising is where Spikers really shines as a professional sports game. The world tour is based on the actual Swatch-FIVB tour and has real organizations like Holiday Inn and Coke.Even the green/blue volleyball that you see in the other video games has the Mikasa logo in this version. And about that Nissan ZX prize, well what does a girl have to do but win if she can't race the Gran Tourismo, right?
The only thing lacking is beer commercials, because this is as close as you can get to professional volleyball without watching it at 3am on ESPN.So stop watching and start playing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Multiplayer
If your looking for some eclectic multiplayer action than beach spikers is the game for you. It is an overall pretty good game but the single player mode is too easy and it's hard to play it for a long time in a row. The gameplay is exactly like that of Mario Tennis for the N64. There are limited controlls and short games which can either be a downfall or a thrill. In this case they're a thrill. Because it is easy to get the feel of the game it is okay to play with a rookie. There are also mini games available in multiplayer. Beach spikers is wicked fun but please don't buy it expecting to play for 12 hours straight. I say it is worth a try.

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Video Game (23 January, 2003)
list price: $49.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

The successful Dead Or Alive fighting game franchise is known as much for the bouncing breasts of the female combatants as for its innovative and consistently fun three dimensional gameplay. Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball is a spinoff game that entirely drops the fighting game elements in favor of focusing on DoA's other claim to fame.

The game begins with you selecting one of the girls as your character. Each game is broken up into a two week vacation, and each day is divided into morning, daytime, and evening. You spend each segment of the day playing volleyball, gambling in the casino, shopping for swimsuits and accessories, lounging around the island, or trying to befriend the other girls on the island.

I'm not sure it's fair to classify DoA:XBV as a volleyball game. Sure, you'll spend a bit of time playing volleyball, but the gameplay is so basic that there are literally only two buttons: one to pass to your teammate and another to send the ball to the opposing side of the net. It's probably more accurate to label DoA:XBV as an unusual "relationship" game, with volleyball just one of several ways to earn money to spend on gifts for girls. Each girl has a set of items that they like; the actual object of the game is to figure out what those items are, where to buy them, and how to present them to each girl. Well-wooed girls will partner up with you for volleyball matches, or allow themselves to be convinced to try on slinkier and more exotic swimwear. For example: if you want Kasumi to try on the barely-there "Venus" swimsuit, you're going to have to shower her with gifts of strawberries, balloons, and origami.

What the game lacks in depth, volleyball gameplay, or features it makes up for in eye candy. The well-modeled, bouncy characters attract the most attention, but the island’s beaches and jungles are also universally gorgeous--and most of the volleyball courts can be played at different times of the day. If nothing else, Xtreme Beach Volleyball is a great display of the raw graphical power of the Xbox.

When considering whether or not you should purchase Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball it's important to remember what it is and what it is not. It is not a volleyball game. It is an incredibly pretty collection of small but moderately amusing mini-games played by buxom cartoon babes. Fans of Lara Croft, rejoice: the next generation is here. --Jon "Safety Monkey" Grover

Pros:

  • Fantastic graphics
  • Exotic tropical setting
  • If you ever wanted to see the girls of the Dead or Alive franchise run around in bikinis, here's your chance
Cons:
  • Volleyball portion of game is simple, not a lot of fun
  • Only supports two players--only then in Exhibition mode and not on the same team
  • More a collection of cut scenes than a real game
  • May make you feel dirty

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring and a total jip
Ok not to sound like a pervert but I heard there was topless women playing volleyball games and I was like damn I gotta buy this. LOL! But none of that was in there and in the intro before the game, you see a topless woman but it looks censored. And the exploring around was stupid and playing the game itself was boring. I wasted $20 on a used copy of this. $20 I can't get back. Don't buy this. It ain't worth your time and money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game for Girls.
This is a great game for some of our female players who don't like violence. It's great because it is very unique and has beutiful grapics. I love the characters of this game. I enjoy playinggames and hope to play more in the future. It is appealing to both genders. These women are the most attractive women in fighting games. If you like these characters check out Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive Ultimate.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good to look at, not fun to play.
This is volleyball? The actual volleyball part of the game is When I hear the title "XTREME" Volleyball, I want solid gameplay, but you get none of that. And what makes it extreme anyway? Sure the bodacious babes are a big plus, but the gameplay relies on just hittin the ball over the net with 2 buttons and hoping you get points. I just felt the lack of interaction. Heck, Tecmo didnt' even bother to apply the scoring rules to this volleyball game. Only A and B buttons are used. There are basically only 2 things you can do on offense, hit the ball up in the air for your partner, then spike it over the net. Fun? Um, not hardly. The computer basically decides the matches and who wins. There is no strategy involved, it's just game for looks and busty babes, nothing more. This is Tecmo, the makers of Ninja Gaiden and DOA Hardcore? Anyway, then after a boring day playing volleyball, you have to go back to the lame Island mode and waste time going through useless and boring places on the island. You try to earn the love of other girls by buying them swimsuits and gifts. Why would one find this enticing?I'm sorry, this game sucks. Sounds like a harsh description, but if it wasn't the redeeming factor of the sweet graphics, this game would be a total disappointment. Is it the worst volleyball game ever? No. But when you pit it against the quality of Sega's game on the Cube, it's just further proof how bad the volleyball engine really is.

The graphics are amazing though. The ladies look better than ever and if they were real I'd defintely want a few dates. It's actually the same engine Tecmo used in Dead Or Alive 3 for the XBOX. You'll recognize one of the beaches being taken directly from the 3, and it looks amazing. Seagulls flying in the background, warm sand curdling your girls feet, and the ocean hitting the sand over the horizon. There are also new beaches, jungles and islands to play volleyball. Once again, lush scenery, fantastic animations and great graphics are nice, but when the gameplay sucks, who cares? For the guys that bought the game strictly for the babes, they might appreciate the "Gravure System" as Tecmo calls it. On days when you want to be alone with your girl, you can take her somewhere alone on the island and just look at her basking in the morning sun. You're thoughts of being there with her might be fun for awhile and mind you it is ultra realistic. You can zoom in on her, change the camera view and take her to different locations. For added visuals, you can also give your girl a nice tan and hook her up with countless bikinis. You can buy tanning oil in the accessory shop and you can watch them over time get a lush golden tan from the sun. If you want to keep them healthy, you can also buy sun block. Sigh. This sucks. I'll say it once and I'll say it again, visual splendor alone, this game rocks, but the game sucks, it really does. ... Read more
