N*Sync Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (19 November, 2001) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (5)
The games. Apparently, the designers thought that the only people who would be playing this would be those who had never played video games in their life... in other words, it's a very easy game to beat, even while still keeping your fan rating high. I didn't find any real challenge in it until I tried the highest difficulty. Aside from that one flaw, though, it's still a very enjoyable game... being quite the *NSYNC fan, I was grinning the entire time I played it (which was something of an achievement, because I was depressed at the time. That's because Christmas was right around the corner). That alone makes me recommend it. ... Read more Asin: B00005NCB0 |

Kirby Tilt N' Tumble Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (12 April, 2001) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Just when you thought you'd played it all, along comes something truly bizarre. Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble isn't just a silly name thought up by Nintendo's central marketing--it's a title that explains how to play this game, as well as a caution against what might happen to you while playing. It's one of the most gimmicky games ever for the Game Boy, yet it works--brilliantly. The plot has something to do with our hero, the pink puffball named Kirby, in his adventure to retrieve the stolen stars of his homeland. Like past Kirby games, there's plenty of surreal imagery that features clouds, lots of pastel colors, and plenty of cuddly bad guys. Chances are you'll be mesmerized by Kirby's control scheme. For the most part, your tilting of the Game Boy unit determines the direction in which Kirby will roll. It's extremely simplistic yet so engrossing that even adults will risk embarrassment while shifting their entire bodies in an attempt to save Kirby from meeting his doom. Even for a game based solely on level design, complaints here are few. Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble requires precise tilting and stable hands, so don't play it on the bus or train. It's easy to lose track of Kirby while tilting due to the Game Boy's inherent screen-glare problems, and that will cause timing problems. Those who think they're too cool for ultracute gaming should avoid this game. Everyone else, though, should get their hands on this one before it rolls away. --Mark Brooks Pros:

Back when GBA came out on the market and was all the rage, I was stuck with my little, hot pink Gameboy Color when everyone else had the sleek new model.I was also a kirby fanatic, and was desperate for a Kirby game.So after some research on the internet, I finally found one - Kirby Tilt N' Tumble.I was disappointed that it wasn't being sold anymore, so finally, for Christmas 2003 my parents bought it for me from eBay, unfortunately just the cartridge and no instructions or box. I was anxious to get playing right away that morning, so I popped it in and found it was a very easy game to learn.I already new a little about the controls, tilting to move Kirby in the desired direction, and it was nice that whenever I had to learn a new move to advance, the game would pause and teach me.Eventually, I easily learned the whole game without any instructions! With 5 goofy yet fun mini-games to play, 8 exciting and challenging words to explore, plenty of cute and cuddly bad guys and a simple, easy-to-follow storyline, Kirby Tilt N' Tumble is a game that doesn't lose its fun anytime soon after buying, versus other games that lose all the fun after you've beat the game. Why, I've owned it for a year already and there's still secret words and warp stars I'm discovering all the time. Now, there are a few cons I'll warn you about before you go out and spend your money. This isn't the game to bring on that 10-hour car trip to visit Aunt Ruth, because the constant moving in vehicles makes it hard to control Kirby. As well, it's not the kind of game where you can lay back against the pillows, stretch out your feet and sip the lemonade, either. You're always swivelling your body back and forth, side to side, and so forth when tilting your little pink puffball. Not a big deal, but its not just hitting buttons like other games. I don't have this problem too much, since I usually play in good light, but you may have a hard time keeping an eye on Kirby when you tilt the screen forward and lose sight of him from the light glinting off the screen.Annoying, yes, but the game is still worth it, trust me. Overall, this game is definitely worth every penny you're paying for it.As long as you don't mind things being cute and cuddly all of the time, Kirby Tilt N' Tumble is a great gaming experience that will last for months and months after your purchase. ... Mario Tennis Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Connors, McEnroe, Sampras--all are OK players, but none can hold aracket to the world's greatest plumber-tennis champ, Mario. But, with enoughpractice, and a devastating overhead smash, you can work your way up to thechampionship cup. Mario Tennis's exhibition mode puts you in the Tennis Academy, where youslowly build up your character's skills (doubles or singles). As you rise in theranks by challenging other characters and upgrading your equipment, you'll playeventually against Mario himself. You can play as one of many Nintendo mascots, including Donkey Kong, Luigi, and Princess Peach. There also are a few minigamesthat will sharpen your skills and can unlock other levels. If you find a humanpartner, you can play against his or her copy of the game easily by way of alink cable. The fast and furious on-court action is easy to follow, despite the tinycharacters. The ball flies smoothly, and each opponent plays differently enoughto be a challenge every time. However, your Game Boy might suffer a tremendousbeating from the furious button-mashing that's needed to win the match. One fault with Mario Tennis is its horrid sound effects, which will havemost folks quickly reaching for the volume controls. Still, if you have patienceand strong thumbs, Mario Tennis serves up a mean game that's easily oneof the better sports tiles to grace the Game Boy. --Mark Brooks Pros:

Barbie Magic Genie Adventure Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (27 November, 2000) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Barbie Magic Genie Adventure sticks to straight side-scrollingaction and an extremely simple control scheme to attract girl gamers. Thecombination works somewhat, because of good graphics and a decent amount oflevel objectives, which will keep players busy. Barbie Magic Genie Adventure sends Barbie on her carpet through castlesand forests, as she looks for crystals, harps, and other items that arenecessary to fulfill the quests that Barbie encounters through the game. Fromtime to time, Barbie even will get to play games, which are hopelesslysimplistic, but add variety nonetheless. The controls in this one are about as easy as it gets. The directional pad movesBarbie, while pressing the "A" button allows Barbie to talk to other characters. No other actions are needed from her, because a flying Barbie has no need tojump and no need for a weapon. We appreciate the nonviolent game, but a few moreBarbie skills would have been nice. The graphics are colorful and animate smoothly, and the levels were large enoughto confound even us big players, at times. And, while this doesn't make for agreat title by any means, it's enough to please ardent Barbie fans. --RobbGuido Pros:

LEGO Racers Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (10 January, 2001) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review LEGO has been around for more than 40 years, and now thecompany is beginning to make its mark in the realm of video games.Building things is synonymous with the LEGO franchise, and buildingyour vehicle with virtual LEGO bricks is quite rewarding and very easyto do in LEGO Racers. This game allows younger gamers and LEGO fans to construct their owncars, select and customize their own drivers, and then take to one ofthe 25 different tracks in one of four different worlds. Hidden withineach of the different tracks are some power-ups that will superchargeyour car and give it a boost of power that will help you blast your wayto the front of the pack. Finding the power-ups and racing against theother five drivers in this game is half the fun. One really cool feature allows you to save your driver and car and linkup via the Game Boy Color Game Link cable to battle it out against oneof your pals (provided, of course, that your friend also has a copy ofthe game). If you want to go it alone, the five computer-controlleddrivers in the game will offer up some competition, but not enough forserious racing-game fans. The AI in the game isn't stellar, but, thenagain, younger gamers like to win, and this game delivers an incrediblegaming experience for budding Game Boy Color enthusiasts. The game's graphics are on par with other Game Boy Color titles and thecontrols are solid. The instructions are easy to read and follow, and,as a result, the gameplay is simple. Serious gamers who are LEGO fans might want to check this title out,but keep in mind that this is LEGO Racers were talking about, not Test Drive6. --Todd Mowatt Pros:
