5-0 out of 5 stars A Gentle Story That Teaches Spanish Words For Animals
Good Night, Dora! is a Lift-the-Flap story by Christina Ricci, with illustrations by Susan Hall.

On her way home, Dora and Boots discover that many creatures are either already asleep or are getting sleepy. As they make their way home, they say Buenas noches (good night) to each of them.

The pages are thicker than regular Dora books, and the large, colorful flaps reveal not only the sleeping/sleepy creature, but also the Spanish word. For example, as Dora and Boots skip across stones in a pond, they hear "Ribbet, Ribbet". She says: "Hey, someone's making a sound in the pond. Do you know who?" When you pull down the flap, you see one purple frog that's happily asleep...while the other is getting drowsy. The words under the flap say "Good night, frogs! ¡Buenas noches, ranas!"

In addition to the frogs, youngsters learn the Spanish word for birds, bees, chickens, ducks, snakes, frogs, and owls. It's a great story for bedtime, because there aren't too many words to read. Yet, the gentle story will teach youngsters a variety of Spanish terms for 8 different creatures. At the end of Good Night, Dora!, her Mami (Mom) tucks her and Boots into bed.

This book holds up well, especially since the flaps aren't the kind that are over little niches/holes imbedded in the story (what you usually find in board books or those with very stiff pages...some Arthur and Bear in the Big Blue House flap books come to mind).

    Highly recommended!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not really a bedtime story
For a child who can't get enough Dora, this is a nice, colorful book and it teaches new Spanish words to an English-speaker. But I expected more of a good-night, bedtime story (a la "Goodnight Moon") and it's really more of a language lesson, saying goodnight to various animals without much of a wind-down to bedtime.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very sweet Dora Book
This is a very cute book and if your child is really into Dora (like mine) it will help get them to bed.Because if DORA is going to bed, so is she! :) However, I do agree with the one reviewer who said board books are better for lift the flap stories for this agegroup. My daughter is nearly 4 now, so it's ok for her, but when she was younger it was a problem. But if you have a Dora fan for a child, I guarnatee s/he will like this book. ... Editorial Review

In Dora's Backpack, Nickelodeon's popular Latina heroine needs to return eight books to the library before it closes. With Map leading the way, Dora and her friend Boots the monkey will make use of all the handy items stored in Backpack to cross the Troll Bridge, get through the Icky-Sticky Sand, cross Turtle River, and get to the library in time. But beware, because Swiper the fox is always lurking. Dora's Backpack is based on the television episode and teaches problem solving, map reading, counting, and one Spanish word. (Ages 2 to 5) --David Horiuchi ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I thouht that Dora's Backpack was great!! :)
I thought that this book was great because it was interesting to find out how they got through the challenges.

5-0 out of 5 stars For 5 and up
I personally liked this book.It really lets children interact with the storyline, which is to get Dora safely to the library so she can return her books.Dora asks the reader for help in finding articles in her backpack that will help her accomplish this goal.

Overall, this book was a little too advanced for my soon-to-be three year-old cousin.Be sure to buy this book for a child who's older, because it's not a hardcover book (a little one will rip this easily) and it might be a little difficult for a toddler to interact with the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
My 2 year old is a big Dora fan and this book is requested at bedtime every night. It is very interactive (there are lots of questions in it like "where is boots?" or "Can you count the books?" ) It is a good inexpensive book for any Dora fan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Wrong, Nothing Strange
This book is just a kind of coloring or activity books of Golden Books.(Coloring+Poster+Game) Not so large quantity, but 3 items. (Remove paper fasteners carefully, and there's no problem!) So what on earth is wrong with this cute book? If you especially want more coloring pages or other features, just search and pick one out of hundreds of coloring or activity books.

2-0 out of 5 stars coloring, a poster and a game
This might be a fun coloring book for Dora fans, though the format is strange. The book comes with a centerfold that pulls out to become a poster, game pieces and a board that become a matching game, and seven two-page spread coloring pages that depict party scenes. The coloring scenes are all on top of each other, so the book must be completely disassembled. There are only a few words of text, and no story.

This book isn't that great but I'd give it an average rating for Dora fans who like to color, except that the paper quality is poor too. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Did they even test this toy out??
I bought this for my almost 4yr old granddaughter last evening, and today its going back!! It tips forward! I bought a different scootboard for my 5yr old grandson & his is just fine..... I had him test the Dora one out and he couldn't ride it either... it kept tipping forward or sideways. It looks cute, but I believe it is dangerous!

3-0 out of 5 stars A beginners scooter
Our daughter loves this scooter. She is 3.5 years old and not very coordnated. The toy is really to make her feel like a big girl.We have no expectations for her to zoom around the neighborhood on it.

It is probably not a good toy for anyone over age 5, who really wants to be on the move with it.

I see no real educational value, except building some balance perhaps.

1-0 out of 5 stars this is not a safe toy
This is more like a skateboard than a scooter. This is very hard for a four year old. ... Read more

I bought this game for my daughter on her 3rd Birthday. It was very easy for her to learn and she wants to play it every night before she goes to bed. It is so fun to watch her scream out UNO!What a great idea to create a simplified version of such a popular and fun game that younger players can enjoy. 4-0 out of 5 stars Family Fun!
I was a little wary when my 2 1/2 year old received this game last holiday season, but she loves it!My other daughter (age 4 1/2) and I get together with her to play and have a good time learning the names of the animals and the colors in spanish.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Cute Toy
My almost 3 year old recieved this as a Christmas gift. It is really cute, but really loud. The only major complaint I have about this is it does not have a volume control switch (none of the Dora toys we have do). The chips are conviently kept in the bottom of the toy and the cards are in the back in "backpack". Dora says the English word first and then says it in Spanish. You can not bingo with less than 4-5 items called. She doesn't sing the "We did it!" song when you bingo, but her theme sound. This was a slight disapointment to my daughter, but other than that she loves the toy.

2-0 out of 5 stars not for learning
With only colors and animals available for game options, there just isn't much this toy has to offer. Main problem...now that Santa gave the gift, I don't feel like I can return it. It would be a decent toy if it had more game cards....or, the option to play Spanish only (to see if they can actually figure out the word). Without that, it's seems like it would quickly bore my 3 and 5 year old. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun and Very Durable!!
My father bought this for my daughters first birthday. The age recommendation said it was for a little older of a child but she just kept pointing to it even when we tried to distract her attention to something else. There are no small pieces and the cartridges are large and durable so I don't think it is a safety concern for small children. She is 18 months now and does not understand the game concept or microphone just yet. However, she loves to push the arrows to advance the pages and dance to the music that it plays. We have had the toy for six months now and have had no problems. I have not even changed the batteries yet!! It continues to be one of her favorite toys and I know she has years before she will outgrow it making it well worth the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality!
My daughter loves this machine. We have had ir for almosr a year now and it is great. She plays with it everyday, and loves both the Dora and the Blues Clues. My daughter is two and it has held up to her toddler behavior! She has dropped it down the stairs used to jump off of, and the darn thing still works great. The volume is a bit loud but you can adjust the volume to loud or not so loud. All in all a great toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Toy .... Better Than Little Touch Leappad
We purchased this toy after having no success or satisfaction with the Little Touch Leappad. My daughter will be two next month and she plays with this toy every day. It is easy for her to use and navigate between the screens. We leave it on the low setting and it isn't annoying but the louder setting we avoid at all costs. You navigate through the different screens by pushing the back or forward arrow buttons. It has a touch screen and on each screen asks your child different things and responds to watch they touch. When it reaches the last screen it automatically rewinds to the beginning. It plays when touched and will stop after your child stops interacting with it. It came on vacation with us and was a definite trip saver, however we didn't use it on the plane so as not to annoy anyone. It worked great in the hotel room and in the rental car especially when we drove 3 hours into Orlando. It has been dropped a few times and it is still going strong. I've changed the batteries once and we've had it for almost two months. We also purchased the Elmo cartridge but this is my daughters' favorite, even though she LOVES Elmo. The only thing I don't like is the microphone. You press the button and speak into it and it magnifies your voice alittle bit. It would've been nicer if you could record your voice and play it back. The only thing my daughter uses it for is to drag the machine around. The built in handle gets no use. You have to insert the cartridge into the slot on top and it locks in place. My daughter figured out how to take them out so she does switch them back and forth. When there is no cartridge in the machine it still plays music and lights up when touched. it also cleans easily. I wipe it down with a damp paper towel. This is an excellent toy for toddlers and you can get it with any of their favorite characters. My daughter will go back to it time and time again throughout the day and I think the only other toy that gets more use are her care bears which she carries around everywhere.

2-0 out of 5 stars Educational but not fully functional
My 2 and a half year old daughter (and now my 7 month old son) enjoy playing with this toy, however my daughter is a little disappointed that Boots does not say anything. I say this toy is not fully functional because the insect fiesta band in the bottom right corner looks like a button that should be pressable to make noises like Dora, Swiper, and the Map, however our button does not go down when we push it, nor does it make any noise. Was ours just the one defective toy, or are there more that have a button that does not work? One day my daughter cried for an hour because this button does not work.

3-0 out of 5 stars nice toy
This toy keeps my two year old occupied more than my four year old.Although it does teach kids the basic words in spanish, like "lago" for lake and "el camino" for the word road, etc, so from that perspective it is educational, but it doesn't hold an older child's attention for very long (4 and up).I would recommened this for ages one to two years of age since repetition is what they enjoy. As for its durability, my son has thrown it around on numerous occasions as the toy is still working like new.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ehhhh.....
Not an awful toy, but not fabulous. We haven't had to bang it on the floor, but my daughter just doesn't seem impressed by it.I think there's not enough of a "result" when you find the things, so it doesn't hold her attention. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

It's Dora, from the popular Nick Jr. TV show Dora the Explorer, dressed up like a cowgirl. She's even got a big purple cowboy hat. She's riding an old-fashioned stick pony named Pinto. Just like on the TV show, Dora speaks both in Spanish and in English. When you press the star on her boot she sings, says a few phrases, and rocks wildly on her horse. If you push the star after she starts singing, you can hear Pinto whinny along with her. Unlike the TV show, the Dora the Cowgirl doll only has a few phrases, and we think there is the potential to get bored with her pretty quickly. This is for serious Dora the Explorer fans only. --Megan Sullivan ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars VERY BORING!
I bought this doll for my 3 yr. old daughter who loves Dora. She liked the doll for about a week and then was bored after that. She would get very frustrated because the hat would constantly fall off and Dora would fall backwards at times during the songs.I've began to notice that most of the Dora the Explorer toys don't have very good recommendations.I defenitley wouldn't recommend Dora the cowgirl to anyone.

Fans of pint-sized Latina adventurer Dora the Explorer can sketch out their own maps on this erasable doodle pad. The pad comes with a magnetic crayon and four magnetic shape stampers—a triangle, square, circle, and arrow—to make fun pictures, practice spelling in English or Spanish, or help Dora map out a new adventure. A sliding eraser beneath the screen in the shape of the show's sneaky fox Swiper wipes the slate clean for new drawings. Kids will also recognize Dora waving from the top of the doodler and The Map posing to the left of the screen. 3-0 out of 5 stars Magna Doodle Is Better
My daughter received this as a gift on the same birthday she received the Fisher Price Magna Doodle. She also has the Fisher Price Little People version. The regular Magna Doodle is so much better. It draws better, erases easily (one swipe instead of 4 or 5) and the pen is easier to use.The string that is attached to the pen on the other two is too short and placed in the wrong location to be useful. My only complaint with the Magna Doodle versus the other two brands is that the magnet "stamps" that come with the Magna Doodle are small and can be a chocking hazard for really small children.I removed the stamps from the toy until my daughter was two.

For slumber parties, naptime, or travel, this indoor sleeping bag makes cozy dreaming for fans of Dora the Explorer. A large image of Dora appears on the purple upink polyester outer shell, and a soft tricot lining encases a sleeping child in soft, lightweight warmth. A self-repairing zipper along the side and bottom allows use as a comforter. This machine-washable bag is perfect for travel or sleepovers, but is also sturdy enough for everyday use. --Ava Natov ... Editorial Review

Spanish lessons don't have to end when Dora the Explorer, star of the popular "Nick Jr." show, is gone for the day. This sturdy, colorful, plastic cassette recorder--featuring on its exterior Dora and sidekick Boots--makes her voice a constant companion for kids eager to pick up new and foreign words. The player is compact and portable, housing a built-in speaker, grip handle, and microphone. It comes with two cassette tapes: one features Dora's addictive theme song, her travel song, the popular "We Did It!", and the catchy "Map" song. The other tape is blank, so kids can record their own music and sounds. Also, the player makes recording simple, because its large, green buttons are easy to push, and the recording mechanism doesn't require pushing two buttons simultaneously. Required: 4 "AA" batteries.--Diane Beall ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I bought this for my son for Christmas (in store didn't see age recommendation) and he loved it. We went around singing and playing the Dora songs..the screeching noise as referred to in the previous review is caused by having the microphone on too loud..I'd just turn it down or off and there wasn't a problem..the problem we had with it was that it isn't durable..it definitely is for an older child as recommended..

Bought this for my daughters birthdays ages 2 & 4.They loved it when we opened it.They played with it ONLY ONCE because after that it began making this VERY loud shrieking noise whenever we turned it on.They cannot play with it because of this horrific noise. We've tried everything to get this noise to go away. It's too bad, I thought this would be a great toy and they both love Dora, but instead it's a loud shrieking nightmare. Also the music it comes with is not the voices on the T.V. show, It's some other people doing the singing. My girls noticed right away that wasn't really Dora & Boots singing. ... Read more
