    Editorial Review

Since he released his first indie single in 1994, Morrison has put three songs inthe British Top 10 "Crazy," "Return of the Mack," and "Horny." All three singles areincluded on Morrison's U.S. debut, Return of the Mack. Far morecompelling than the revenge-fantasy of the lyrics is the sound of Morrison's nasal, booming voice over a groove that seems to slam a thousand handclaps and drums intoeach beat. The man behind the sonic boom is coproducer Phil Chill, who once did thesame for Neneh Cherry. A lot of artists switch back and forth between singing andrapping, but Morrison is one of the few who can do both at once in a conversational sing- song that combines melody and rhythmic exclamation points.--Geoffrey Himes ... This is perhaps God's gift to our precious planet. The Mack may even be the newest relative to God.I love the Mack and I will listen to this album from this day til the moment I die and go to heaven where I will be eternally with the Mack.Thank you for this forum in which I could express my opinions on this amazing artist.I love you Mack!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Big "Mack" Tracks
All right, time to get this anniversary party rollin'! Just lemme lay down this here Mark Morrison "Return of the Mack" remix maxi-single on my CD changer, and we'll be on our way to par-tay nirvana! Ever since I first caught this tune on a local R&B station some time back, I've been wantin' a copy of my own to play whenever I wanted and as often as I desired. Unfortunately, I was faced with a significant obstacle: since I had no idea what the name of the song's artist was at the time (the DJ never announced it on the air), I had to search for the song by title. But that was a bit of a prob, too-- I thought the name of the song was "Return of the MaN", not "Return of the MaCK". So after going through several hundred thousand pages of Google results, I finally hunted this CD maxi-single down, purchased it, and took a listen...

Although I was a little disappointed that the LP/radio version of the tune wasn't present, I thought the C&J X-tended edit was almost as good. The A Capella rendition was surprisingly mellow compared to its instrument-laden counterparts. Pretty amazin' the difference musical instruments-or the lack of them-make in a song when it comes to tempo and feeling, hmm? Speakin' of instruments: if'n you're feelin' up to beltin' out the lyrics on your own, give the Karaoke track (the last one on the disc) a whirl! Sadly, the BeatMinerz mix didn't impress me all that much. But hey, there's always the `next track' button, right?

Oh yes, there's also two renditions of `Trippin', a great tune to bliss to after a hard day's work-or a full day of goofin' off for that matter. I found the C&J mix rendition of this tune slightly more enjoyable than the Salaam Remi Remix. But both are just right for those times when ya just feel like... er... well, tripping I guess. But in a good way of course. Um, tripping that is...

All right... now that I got the jamz rollin', time for me to pop open a couple presents...

(Part 2 of my 4th anniversary party is located at www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000092OKI/002-5381946-8604012?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=&colid= )

5-0 out of 5 stars The C&J remix alone makes it worth the money!
I heard the C&J version on my local radio station a few years ago and was blown away! The regular version of the song is one of my favorites, but if you haven't heard the C&J mix yet, you don't know what you're missing! Add a Beatminerz remix, a chance to hear the raw product (Morrison's extraordinary, penetrating voice, needless to say) in the "Accapella of the Mack", and two remixed versions of the song "Trippin," and you have a CD that makes you wonder why Morrison hasn't come out with a third CD.(I'm considering this CD his second one, since it's an accomplishment in and of itself). ... Editorial Review

With their feel-good humanism, uniquely rural perspective, and melodic blend of funk and rap, Arrested Development seemed like the next big thing in 1992. The group hailed from Atlanta, which was not then a capital of hip-hop and R&B, and this, their debut recording, won the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop critics poll. Speech, the primary lyricist, wrote and delivered eloquent attacks on gangsta rap's mindless nihilism: the band's first hit, "Tennessee," spoke of reclaiming Southern black traditions from the racism that sullied their memory, while their second, "People Everyday," deftly updated the Sly Stone classic. Although Speech's rapping style was not distinctive, Dionne Farris's keening vocals highlighted the band's front line. Unfortunately, Speech began to run short of ideas and the band failed to maintain the high standards that this debut set. They disbanded a few years later. --Martin Johnson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I draw strength from this CD
When this CD first came out I was 10 years old and I loved it. I bought the tape and listened to it all the time. I made a back-up copy of the tape and listened to both till they were destroyed.

A few weeks ago I stepped into the library and picked this CD up and I can't stop listening to it. I can now understand many of the lyrics that didn't quite catch when I was younger. I also think that I draw a lot of strength from this CD.

The music itself is innovative and wonderful. But the lyrics are truly powerful and seem to affirm the choices I have thus far made in my life. These songs discuss the importance of mothers and fathers raising their children, respecting all people (tribute to a homeless man "Mr. Wendal"), valuing nature (Children Play with Earth), the importance of marriage ("U"), and being honest and natural in a relationship ("Natural").

There are some aspects of the songs that I find more spiritual than religious although there are many reference to God. I am not particularly religious and don't think it comes off as being too preachy. There are also many calls to a revolution that seem almost silly but it is very tied to the poetics of original rap music (before it was swept away by gangsta rap).

Although I am not black, I am an immigrant and relate very much with their most famous song "Tennessee" which discusses a nostalgic reconnection to the violence of African American past in the United States. It's dealt with in a way that is mature, deep and intelligent.

A lot of intelligent beautiful rap music exits. This is a great place to start. Here are some other artists you may also enjoy: Spearhead, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, The Roots, Ms. Dynamite, Public Enemy, Mos Def, Talib Kweli.

    Take care of yourself.

    peace-

5-0 out of 5 stars inspirational!a hard act to follow......
This album is definitely unlike the majority of r&b/hip hop albums from 1992 (when it was first released) or the music of today. For starters, the lyrics are not misogynistic, violent or about drug use. They go deeper, and penetrate your thoughts.

The title refers to the duration of time it took to find a distributor and finally record this album. Though, it is unbelieveable, to me, that while a duo like Milli Vanelli can lyp synch their way to a GRAMMY, Marky Mark can drop his pants and become a model for Calvin Klein, posing in his tighty whities, and yet and yet an intelligent, thoughtful and beautiful group with affirmative content in their songs has to wait THREE years to even get a record deal! What a world!

Arrested Development mixes rap (by leader of the band, and lyricist, Speech), the stirring African drum rhythms and arrangements and the powerful vocals of the great Dionne Farris. It's like taking a musical journey, filling your ears with truthful and poetic messages about poverty and humanity ("Mr. Wendel"), anti-"gangsta" inspired messages about treating young Black women with respect ("Everyday People"), and taking an introspective look at the racism of the South and the ghosts that continue to haunt the descendants of slaves ("Tennessee").

This band was made up of a great group of storytellers, and it is truly a shame that they weren't able to continue together for more than a couple of years. We need you, Speech! We need to hear from the poets who take their gifts and use them to educate, not escalate.

THIS WOMAN IS BEAUTIFUL AND SHE SINGS VERY WELL. I ENJOY THIS ALBUM IT IS VERY GOOD. VERY NICE ALBUM TO LISTEN TO. EVERY SONG ON HERE IS GREAT. I LOVE THIS ALBUM IT HAS A LOT OF GREAT SONGS: IT INCLUDES A REMAKE OF AINT NOBODY; SHY GUN FROM BAD BOYS SOUNDTRACK. ILIKE THIS WHOLE ALBUM. IT IS A GREAT ALBUM I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO LIKES DANCEHALL TO PURCHASE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Soulful
I am not a big fan of most mainstream neo-soul (i.e. Beyonce, Ashanti etc.) but Diana's music has such an irresistably infectuous "feel-good" vibe that's impossible not to like. She created a unique R&B/Hip-Hop/Dancehall Reggae sound like nobody else and it comes off sooo smooth. Diana may not have the thought provoking lyrical depth of say...Lauryn Hill, but you deffinatley "feel" these song as they all have a very moody and sensual old school vibe to them. Shy Guy isn't the only good song, this album is pretty consistant, I wish Diana was ruling the chart nowadays she has more talent than most (plus a great voice).

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT! OF COURSE
AFTER LISTENING TO "SHY GUY" & THE ENTIRE CD "TOUGHER THAN LOVE" I'M A FAN OF DIANA KING'S. ALTHOUGH I ONLY REMEMBER "SHY GUY" AS GETTING ANY AIRPLAY ON THE RADIO, THE OTHER SONGS ARE GREAT IN THEIR OWN RIGHT.I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT?!?!?
This album is one of the best albums ever.I understand that some people don't like his music and I understand that. What the thing is that everybody finds one artist, or style, or even both. When they do that, they say screw everything else. They say that Snow and Vanilla Ice are the worst ever, but I like them both(Old and new).I like ICP and Eminem.I like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Phil Collins.I like old and new.I like Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's all a fad thing to people, but if I like it, I'm gonna listen to it.Most people don't say they like Snow or Vanilla Ice because they're afraid to be mocked.I like the music for the music, not the name.I try to be a musician, but since I like so much stuff, I can't settle on one sound, but the only thing I really can do is rap.I can even sing a few of Snow's songs along with him.I got my first Snow album a few years ago, which was this one, and I've tried to collect them all since then.I only have Murder Love, Mind on the Moon, and of course this.I have relatives in Canada who could probably help me find all of the rest.Especially Two Hands Clapping because that's the next one I want.I can get Justuss really cheap online.Snow is my favorite artist ever and will always be, but I'm open to other artists too. Now, buy this album and listen to the best thing the 90's ever had, but took for granted.Thanx a lot, because now I have to get his albums imported to buy them.Peace out!

4-0 out of 5 stars This was a hot album back then!
Snow's 1993 album was very good, and funky on many levels! His merging of rap with reggae is very well done here.I still like Informer and Girl I've Been Hurt. But one of my favorites here is the ballad Hey Pretty Love, with its smooth sounds.Champion Sound and Lonely Sunday Morning are easily influenced by Bob Marley a little bit. This was a very addictive and catchy record back then and I'd still hear it again today!

Digable Planets deliberately disavowed the toughness of hip-hop culture: the trio's leader called himself Butterfly, his foil Ladybug purred like Eartha Kitt, and they produced hooks out of lines like "We're just babies, man." Despite occasional flashes of sorrow (like the pro-choice recitation "La Femme Fétal"), the group's happy and laidback on this debut, with tracks made out of old jazz records and finger-snaps, and words that draw on 50s hipster slang. Reachin' spawned the Grammy-winning single "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," and after this album, their joyous Blue Note-and-black-lights bounce lost some of its novelty.--Douglas Wolk ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jimmy's Digging This
Digable Planets came off as a flash in the pan in the pages of hip hop history, which is a crying shame considering that this debut album of theirs is so good that it deserves a lot more respect than it's getting. Sylk 130, for starters, produces some of the best jazz-heavy beats of the early 90s, making it a truly up-lifting feel-good album despite the politically-charged nature of the lyrics. The MCs are also off the hook and, in my opinion, brutally slept-on. This album dropped in 1993, around when Illmatic and Midnight Marauders dropped. Both of these albums are heralded as lyrical masterpieces, yet I feel that Reachin' belongs right up there next to Nas and Q Tip. Butter, Doodle and Mecca have a smooth yet air-tight approach to the microphone, and their lyrics are both entertaining and socially relavent.

While these cats flew under the radar, mostly due to their ultra-left political alignment, I do believe that the Digable Planets deserve the same credit groups like A Tribe Called Quest are getting. The Digable Planets produced a more positive and empowering message than any group could ever even hope to achieve - an achievement that only the likes of KRS-One could ever boast. While De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest kept our summer days that much cooler with Three Feet High and Rising and Low End Theory, Digable Planets were doing the same thing yet at the same time spreading a message that was so important to the black communities of New York in the early 90s. Don't get me wrong, I think that most of the so-called d.a.i.s.y. hip hop acts brought a truly positive vibe to people's earphones, and I love them for that. But Digable Planets were on a whole other level. The passion that came out of their two albums was like no other. For me, groups like Tribe were about straight cold chilling; Digable Planets, however, were about straight inspiration and empowerment.

This is one of the all time best hip-hop record ever!!! The era, the music, the vibe, the delivery, everything about this record is classic!!!!! Everybody knows Mecca is the one of the illest emcees that came in the game. Mecca is coming back!!!! Mec and her DJ - Moe Choi has a dope mixtape out called "Unfolding the Serious Mystery". This thing is fire. I mean really really crazy. I never heard a mixtape like this before. Mecca is rockin' over Mantronix to DJ Shadow to Kenny Dope, etc etc. She sounds so good. I specially love where she does spoken word over the Rehash track - beautiful & timeless.Where have you been Mec??? I really look forward to hearing her new album. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Let me speak to the weak, I mean the rookies.
You dont know "Ditty"? And you call yourself a hip-hop & rap lover? Do'h let me speak to you, yes YOU.

I first listened to Ditty that was in Always Coca-Cola compilation album and it was on track 02. And that's the ONLY track of the CD that my CD-ROM played all day long everyday until there's a noticable mark of circle on the surface of the CD-ROM. I then backed it up to MP3 format so the faithful CD can get a rest. Heck, until now I even put the song into my mobilephone and listen to it once in a while. The song still get a special place in my WinAmp player. It gets played once everyday.

I still listened to Ditty, at least once a day. It IS quite possible the best rap song, no exaggeration. felt clasic, witty, naughty, yet not too bombastic or snobby like some of current so-called rappers. I liked rap since MC Hammer's U Cant Touch This, been listening to a lot of raps. But since i listened to Ditty, all other rap songs just pale in comparison. Nothing can withstand all the things that are Ditty.

It's a shame that good songs like Ditty doesnt make it to worldwide recognition. Most likely the only candidate for BEST rap song of all time and yet so few people know about it.

But that's just how it is with good songs, the really good songs, so few people know about. the so-so songs sung by flashy/marketable/good-looks singers are known by many. People still likes appearance over substance.

I dont know about the other songs but Ditty alone will make it worth the purchase. Even if you're not a rap or hip-hop fan, you'll bob your head unconsciously listening to Ditty.

the song ditty only is worth getting the album. That song will never die. If you dont like hiphop or rap just play ditty and you will see why its the greatest rap song ever written. the whole album is banging and ditty alone is worth the money.

Awsome techno cd, for anyone who likes good dance with a nice beat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome party album!
The only reason I gave this album 4 stars is because it was way too short(only 8 tracks and 2 of them are an intro and an outro). But otherwise, this album is slammin'! It's a great cd to play at a party or in a club! The best song is the title track Let Me Clear My Throat(which is featured 3 times on the cd: the regular version on track 2, the Old School Reunion Remix on track 7, and on the 20 Minute Workout Remix on track 6), but I also really like the songs Put That Hump In Your Back, and I Got Dat Feelin'(which samples the beat for Naughty By Nature's classic song "Uptown Anthem"). A crazy experiment in music-industry manipulation, the KLF remain one of dance's more groundbreaking acts. Having already scored hits as the Jams and the Timelords, Bill Drummond and Jimi Cauty christened the KLF with Who Killed the Jams? Though they were originally considered part of England's acid-house scene, the KLF's high-energy mix of disco-diva vocals, rapping, breaks, and samples was truly club-friendly pop. The White Room contains three of the group's greatest moments, the top 10 hits "What Time Is Love?," "Last Train to Transcentral," and "3 A.M. Eternal." Amid their success, Drummond and Cauty retired from the music industry, deleting their back catalogue in the process. The White Room is a fitting (if somewhat short) epitaph that stands the test of time. Its futuristic musical themes are somewhat silly, but genuine musicianship makes the songs themselves quality fun. --Liisa Ladouceur ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Dance Classic!
    Hey
the packaging is very missleading! I thought it was going to be two cds but then discovered that they added the single to JUSTIFIED AND ANCIENT onto the White Room Album which i thought was so cool! So i don't have to have two cds and keep trading.
I bought this cd for the JUSTIFIED & ANCIENT song but then found out that there are some great dance tunes along with some slow grooves. BUILD A FIRE is a great song to chill to. The other singles WHAT TIME IS LOVE?, 3 A.M. ETERNAL, LAST TRAIN TO TRANCENTRAL are very good and bring me back to the days in Bismarck. So if you remember when you first heard these song then they'll take you back!
My love though is JUSTIFIED & ANCIENT
STAND BY THE JAMS 7" (this is the radio edit and is only 3 min long)
STAND BY THE JAMS 12" (this is a longer version with a break that i think is very cool a guy comes on and explains about the Justified and ancient traveling in their ice cream van very cool)
ALL BOUND FOR MU MU LAND (this has Tammy singing the Chorus but Maxine Harvey sings the lyrics. This is 7 min long also. Very cool)
LET THEM EAT ICE CREAM (this is like a dub version it has the guitar form the song and the hype men talking but no words just the music)
All in all i love this cd!

4-0 out of 5 stars Why no go to sleep?
I love this album, but for some reason the best track from the white room soundtrack "Go to Sleep" isn't on it. Being as the KLF deliberately deleted their back catalogue and are the Kopyright Liberation Frount I'm sure people sourcing it from other sources will not burn for this one. Nice to have the high-fidelity though, but I am confused by the omision of the best track.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Album
The KLF, which stands for Kings of the Low Frequencies, were the defining act of the more-accessable form of techno cum house that was all over the place in the moths/years after the Summer of Love, which prohibitively was '87 in most of the world. This album is amongst the best ever recorded and has 3 of the best songs ever to meet to wax. It's truely mind-boggling and provides a good focal point to judge other techno albums. If you can't groove to this, yer prolly dead, mate. You simply must buy this album and then go and get their other music, you won't be disappointed. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars Great German 90's Techno/Trance/Synth/POP/Rap
This is a True 90's Classic. I can't imagine living in the 90's without it. Not just a Club classic (Techno/Trance), but also a Pop Classic (Great Catchy and Emotional songs with Female Vocals and rap). No EuroDance collection can be without it... in fact No music collection should be without it. It's music for your Mind, Your Body, and your Soul! What more can one ask for?

10 Years I had this album, and it still takes my breath away everytime I listen to it. All those Melody Hooks, Lyrics, Raps, Synth Beats and Lines are burned in my mind forever.
This album was on the Cutting Edge of the sound in 1993, in fact IMO it was way ahead of it's time, and it still sounds AWESOME to this very day, even when compared to Modern Techno/Synth/Trance releases. this album was Revolutionary, but for Culture beat it was their 2-nd full length album.

The album was produced by the late Torsten Fenslau, God Bless his Soul!

It featured the Amazing Vocals of Tania Evans and Unofgetable rap of Jay Supreme. Don't like Rap? Well, that's probably because you've never heard EuroRap, and that's exactly what Jay Supreme's rap sounds like. Great, Upbeat, thoughtful, Emotional, and most of all Clean (not Vulgar)

The album start with a Great Intro.
It then Explodes into the Biggtest Club-Pop crossover hit of the 90's called "Mr Vain" (one would have to have lived in a cave not to hear this one).

The following Songs are Great Fast Techno/Eurodance with female Lyrics and Male Rap:

    "Mr vain"
    "Got to Get It"

"Anything" - this one is soo fast, it's Crazy, the whole body just shakes.

    "Rocket to the Moon"

"Mother Earth" - Great song with a Message, starts out slow, with Great female Vocals that just send shivers down my spine with every listen.

"Adellante" - has rap, but mostly Instrumental, Great Stuff here.

There are also some Slower tunes, these are more Trancey and Soulful, But they still have Great Synth arrangments and Great memorable Melodies, just a bit slower.

"World In Your Hands" - a true Beauty

"Key to Your Heart" - soooo Beautiful, it's beyond words

"Other Side Of Me" - once again, a Beauty of a song, Great Synths and beat too.

"Hurt" - very Soulful and Beautiful song.

"Serenity (Epilogue)" - well, this one is a KILLER Trance/Synth/Techno Instrumental with woman saying "Serenity". The sound is sooo Powerful and Emotional. A true Trance music classic.

So, what can I say, this album is just a Perfection. It's much more than a Club/Dance CD, it's a Great Pop album that can be listened to anywhere (home or in the car or at work). And it really stands the test of time very well, because after all those years I often come back to it and still get much joy from it. It's timeless and to me holds a lot of memories, liek a time capsule.

All other CB albums are also Great, so it's worth to have all of them, expecailly "Inside Out" and "Metamorphosis" (slower, but still great)

Not to be repetitive, but this album is a Perfection of the Sound, Melody, and Songwriting.

Thank You Very Much, and Enjoy this Amazing Album.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific 90's Dance CD That Is Rarely Serene
"Serenity" begins and ends with two somewhat identical ambient/trance tunes, mixing in random helicopter, train, airplane, and ocean sounds (plus some vocals by Jay Supreme in the prolog version), producing two very soothing, standout songs. This CD primarily earns its name from these two same-named prolog and epilog tracks, but most of the remaining ten songs on "Serenity" are all fast and rarely serene. Just to name a couple: #2 ("Mr. Vain"), which Culture Beat is most notable for and the main reason why I purchased this CD, and #5 ("Adelante!"), the only track done by Jay Supreme, who speaks mostly in Spanish throughout it--a great track, by the way.

Other notable tracks on "Serenity" are #3 ("Got To Get It"), one of my favorites; #4 ("World in Your Hands"), a slower/medium song with what sounds like a Bell Biv DeVoe sample from "Poison" playing in the background; and #11 ("Mother Earth"), an Earth-conscious song that tries to send out a positive message but comes off sounding a bit too overbearing.

In summary: "Serenity" is a terrific choice for 90's dance fans. There are plenty of fast, club-friendly tracks on here, plus a few effectively slower songs thrown in as well. Overall, it's a great pick-me-up album.

5-0 out of 5 stars WELL WORTH YOUR TIME !
THIS IS QUITE A FINE CD THAT HAS NOW BECOME A DIFINATIVE CD TO HAVE IF YOU ARE A LOVER OF ELECTRONICA MUSIC. MY FAVOURITE TRACKS ARE "MR. This is absolutely the best album ever made, This Is How We Do It represent the real party anthem and although Montell still is a great singer, his debut album remains his best work yet. This is a classic and nothing's gonna change my mind about it.

    4-0 out of 5 stars ===Money is just tremendous!===
Montell Jordan (a.k.a. Money) has his own unique style and it'suntouchable. The man is one of the most gifted in the R&B scene, plainand simple. It's not only his amazing voice, but it's also his awesomeproduction skills and his ability to mix new-school style with older styleof R&B. His verses are fresh and many of the songs have a strong hiphop feel in them. Montell even raps on a few of the songs and he does itwell. And don't think that the party anthem "This is How We DoIt" is the only song to love on the album. There's a lot of otherGREAT songs you'll love to hear again and again. Montell is so talented, whether it's singing or producing the songs. That's something real rare andcombined with his charisma it makes MJ untouchable. This is his firstalbum... Check out the rest as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good disc
I first been a fan to Wreckx-n-Effect since they put out the classic joint "Rump Shaker" which was produced by my man from the group Guy Teddy Riley. This was a breakthrough 4 them even they put 3 albums. I hope they'll come back and tight that 1 again one 'mo time on their next album. It's been so long. This is a must for rap fans, non-rap fans and/or rap beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
Firstly, I will keep this short since I do not have much time!
This group made it with a self-titled cd before this one, which proclaimed Teddy Riley Innovator and Founder of New Jack Swing. He also is the best producer from the day he started till now - Hands Down!!! One Hit Wonder?????? Check ya knowledge before you post such degrading things about someone who could make you a star with something he thought up in his sleep.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Advocate
First off it is Absolutly Stupid for anyone to ever consider Wreckx-n-Effect A One hit wonder. I wonder how you figure that when Rump shaker wasn't even thier first release. Furthermore, It wasn't even thier first Hit Single, Thier First Hit Single was Called "New Jack Swing" Released on Motown Records in 1989.
The Song was So Huge it had the entire country doing the Bus Stop to it. So That totlally elminates them from the one hit wonders Group. Except if you're a New jack to the history of hip-Hop. If it wasn't for them and that song, Rhine Stone jackets would have never Been famous at the time. This Group has put out A Hit Single Almost every time they released an album. You have to study this hip-Hop thing. Rump Shaker Was the Second Big Song to be released By Wreckx, And Some people I know Still think The Song "New Jack Swing" Was Better. So I don't see anything One hit Wonder About that. This Album is
Awsome Classic Rap Dude. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Contains a classic
I bought the album simply for the song "What Is Love" which will be one of my favourites until I'm very old (I finished high school mid-90s).I expected the rest of the album to be tacky, cheesy and cheap but found it strangely enjoyable (although it definitely had some tacky and cheesy moments!!).You'll usually just play "What Is Love" off this, but if you forget to stop it after that track finishes you'll probably let it run to the end as it draws you in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic, Melodic songs with Great Techno Beats from Germany
Simply a Great album that touched me in Many ways. Haddaway's biggest hit in US was "What is Love", a Melodic and Romantic song with a Great Techno Beat. But his debut album was not all about Dance, it had soo Much More to Offer. After 10 years of having it, this CD still makes me go crazy.

Haddaway's Voice is also Out of this World, it's Amazing, and reminds me a bit of performer Seal.

All songs here (with exception of a few) were written by Dee Dee Halligan, and Junior Torello. I heard a rumor that these are no other than Tony Hendrick and Karin Van Haaren (composers for 80's German Dance/Pop group Bad Boys Blue). This makes sense because this album was released on Coconuts Records, a record company founded by and run by Karin and Tony.

As I said, not all songs on this CD are Fast dance like "What is Love", but they are All Great.

    2) "Life (Everybody Needs somebody to Love) - this is just like "What is Love" maybe even better.

    10) "Rock My Heart" - Fast dance/techno song, just like "What is Love", great Melody Hook

    12) "Shout" -also a Great Fast Techno song

    4) "Come Back (Love Has Got a hold on Me) - also very similar to "What is Love", a Great Melody and Beat.

    13) Life (Mission Control Remix) - an awesome Remix of Life, great Synths!

    6) What is Love (Rapino Brothers Remix) - this is a Horrible Remix, original is much better. If this was the last track, I would skip it, but it's not.

Now, there are also some GREAT Slower songs and Love Ballads on this album.

"Yeah" - a nice song, not too fast, not too slow.

"I Miss You" - this is an Awesome Love Ballad, Very Beautiful

"Tell Me where it hurts" - Another GREAT Upbeat Love Ballad, this one was not written by Halligan/Torello, but was written by Great American composer Diane Warren (her company is Realsongs and she wrote many songs fro many performers like Aerosmith, Babyface, Ace of Base etc etc)

"Mama's House" - I just love this slower song, Very Beautiful. I always think of my mother when I hear it. It also reminds me of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" it's just as Great.

"Stir It Up" - a great Cover of Bob Marley, a Reggae tune.
So As you can see, I think this album is GREAT with all songs potential Hits. It's a great addition to any CD Collection, if you don't already have it.

Also make sure to check out Haddaway's 2nd album (not released in US), called "The Drive". It's also GREAT, maybe even better, hard to say. American Record companies as always missed on this Great Artist, and never gave him much chance or promotion (other than for "What is Love"). That's sad. Because Haddaway is NOT a One-Hit wonder, never was, never will be.

Thank You Very Much and Enjoy this Great CD

5-0 out of 5 stars Haddaway 1993 Self Titled
An underated artist only known for What Is Love that was a great song but this album never quits why wasn't I Miss You a big hit that song has hit all over it I am a singer and I would love to cover that song, also Life, Come Back and Mama's House are great. Haddaway's got a great voice and I also love the acoustic guitar on a few songs why wasn't he the next Seal a shame .a lot of pop dance music was real bad in the 90's but this is an exception, if you want a great album from this period then turn to this album you will not be disappointed. ... Editorial Review

Known for his chart-topping single "I Wanna Be a Baller," rapper Lil' Troy can't convince the world that he's foremost a rapper and not just a drug dealer. Sittin' Fat Down South is 14 tracks about the drug life and the struggle to survive it. Guest appearances by southern rappers Scarface and Willie D make the album bearable, as does "Small Time," the album's excellently produced high point featuring a beautiful soprano voice sample, horn, and hard-hitting drums. Sittin' Fat fails, not because of its single-minded subject matter, but because it lacks musical ideas. The album is mostly keyboards with little variation in played or sampled riffs, so almost every song sounds the same. But if you're looking for something with a lot of bass to bump in your system, then Lil' Troy will satisfy your cravings. --Kenji Jasper ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gillette kicks ass!!!!!!!!!
This girl is brilliant! shes hot, cool, a great singer, and best of all says what she likes and knows how to put men in thier place.
Every song on this CD is excellent, Gillette says what she wants, or in the case og the classic SHORT DICK MAN what she DOESN'T want. SHORT DICK MAN is one of the funniest songs ever! especially with the lyrics and her patronising taunting laugh which she uses to belittle tiny men who can't measure up. This is an Ace CD!!

eeny weeny, teeny weeny, shrivelled little short dick man!
