Spell a word backwards, hum a tune, answer a multiple-choicequestion, draw with your eyes closed, and more when you play Cranium.Unlike games that focus on only a few skills, Cranium offers 14talent-tapping activities designed to bring out the best in you and yourfriends. Cards from four decks, color-coded to match each of the crazycharacters--Star Performer, Creative Cat, Data Head, and WordWorm--describe activities that teams must complete in order to advance aroundthe board. If you choose a Sculptorades card from the Creative Catdeck, for example, you might be asked to sculpt a hamburger fromlemon-scented Cranium Clay while your teammates try to guess what you'recreating.

To win the game, teams have to make it to Cranium Central--the largepurple brain in the center of the board--and then successfully completeone activity from each of the four decks. The result is that the teamwith the best combination of abilities comes out on top. With itswonderfully diverse set of activities and top-notch design (artwork byillustrator GaryBaseman decorates the colorful board and decks of cards), Craniumoffers the best of all board game experiences--and it's a whole lot offun, too! 5-0 out of 5 stars Hours of Fun, and Most of it is Spent Laughing
Cranium is the ultimate combination of every party game you love in one nice package.Acting, unscrambling, humming, drawing, there is always a new challenge to face that will have the entire group laughing.

You play the game in partners and will find the games level of difficulties ranging from spelling a word to 60's trivia. The competition is eased through the constant mishap whiletrying to complete the zany challenges which adds for a funner atmosphere.

The games design is modern and nicely done, and the replay value of the game is high since the card booster sets have been made and the first deck will last you a long time.Cranium doesn't get old fast, it's so entertaining I doubt it will ever get old.It is a must own game and definately the best of the new wave of party games.

    Cranium's Crazy Contests earn it
    A Bliss of 9

3-0 out of 5 stars Good game
Cranium is a good game, but does not appeal to everyone in the group. Rigamarole is a lot more fun and there is something for everyone.

    Editorial Review

Scattergories is a fast-paced word game that's a real crowd pleaser. Each player takes a categorylist with 12 categories--such as vegetable, state, president, things you throw away--and must write down thename of one item that fits into each category. Sounds easy enough, but each item has to begin with aspecific letter that is determined when the 20-sided die is rolled. For instance, you roll the letter "R." Youranswer list for the above categories might look something like this: rutabaga, Rhode Island, Roosevelt, rubbish, etc. You have to think fast, because a round lasts only 3 minutes! Players score points for eachunique answer. --Alison Golder ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for quick-thinking players
Scattegories is so much fun! Even though it's a word-based game, you don't need a huge vocabulary to play. The categories are pretty well-known and general. The hard part is coming up with the right word in time!

To play Scattegories you choose one of 12 different games, each with 10 separate categories. So the categories in one game might be, for example:

    * Things you find at the beach
    * Famous people

And so on for 10 in total. You then roll a die that has letters of the alphabet on it to determine which letter all of your answers have to start with - and no repeating words in the same game! You get bonus points for multiple word answers that all start with the chosen letter. For example an answer for "Famous people" might be Ronald Reagan (2 points). Like I said before, there's a lot more pressure when you can hear the timer ticking down! Whoever gets the most points wins the game. Sometimes it's fun to make up words and see if you can get everyone else to believe you.

Scattegories is an easy game for almost anyone who can read and write. It's good with groups or just two people. You can even play it over the phone if you really want to. Highly recommended for people who like board or word games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great in Teams!
I'm always intrigued when I read of folks playing this game as individuals . . . I've only played it with teams (usually of 3 players each).

I host a potluck dinner and "game night" at my home every couple of months . . . sometimes a mixed group of singles and couples, sometimes friends bring their children, sometimes just a group of women friends . . . after dinner and chat we move on to the game for the evening . . . we have tried several different games, but have settled on Scattergories as one of our favorites --- it is easy to play in teams and the answers are creative and fun (with few blank spots when the timer stops!)

Each team designates one person to write while all the team comes up with answers . . . some teams have one person start at the bottom of the list while another starts at the top and they meet in the middle . . . we have found that with team play some like to move away from the table for the fill in portion of the game (into the family room, out onto the deck, etc.).

What's great about this game is that it's fun to play with all ages . . . the kids get to see adults having fun (and not taking themselves too seriously) everyone gets to play and no one is ever made to feel foolish or stupid.Even friends who think that they don't like to play games because they aren't competitive enough have enjoyed this game when played in a team.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even people who don't like to play games like this one!
There are a few people in our extended family who simply don't enjoy playing board games or even party games of any type. However, these same people have loved playing Scattergories. It is simple in concept but challenging to the intellect. Also, it just ends up being hilarious to hear the answers that people come up with. This is the game our family has enjoyed playing more than any other game.

A must have for your game collection! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Sure, this real estate trading game has been the world's most popular board game for more than six decades, but what makes this edition "deluxe"? For one thing, it brings back the sturdywooden (not plastic) houses and hotels of years gone by. It also features an extra gold-colored train token, a handy holder for the Title Deed cards, and a banker's tray to keep your cash on hand. The cash, Community Chest, and Chance cards are all newly redesigned. And the 19-inch-by-19-inch board is stamped with a golden "Deluxe" arch. Featuring the original Atlantic Citylandmarks like Boardwalk and Park Place, this version is for the serious Monopoly lovers on your gift list. For further perspective on Monopoly, you can read about it in The Greatest Games of All Time and New Rules for Classic Games.--Rebecca Hughes ... 1-0 out of 5 stars OVERPRICED, CHEAPLY MANUFACTURED AND DISAPPOINTING

The only thing "Deluxe" about this addition is the glossy foil cover of the box, which is designed to make you think you are getting something special by paying more money.

Nothing could be further from the truth. This edition screams "CHEAP" from the second the lid comes off.

Let's go thru the hype above and set the record straight on all the "Deluxe" features:

The board is a quad-fold affair, redesigned presumably to allow a smaller, less expensive box. It has much less rigidity than the single-fold board of the "classic" version. When it is left out for an extended period of time, especially overnite, the ends of the board curl up and refuses to lay flat.

The houses and hotels are completely featureless, just small blocks of wood. They looked to be dipped in some type of vegetable dye rather than painted. This is probably an attempt to eek out a few extra cents of corporate profit.

The "bankers tray" and "property wheel" are flimsy plastic jokes. Neither would last under play by children much more than a few games.

This edition is a sad legacy to a great game, and the cheapness of the set detracts from the joy of play. For the additional cost, all you are really getting is the fancy foil cover and one extra play token, plus a board that curls up at the edges: Whoopee!

My advice: Save the extra money and buy the "classic" version.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
This is a great game. The new box is nice because it's smaller, so it takes up less space. There's a nice money-holder, and little places for pieces and hotels, and even enough room for all of your old pieces and hotels (2 other boards worth).Places to store property cards and everything. The comm. chest kind of cards are a little flimsier, but that's why you use the old ones you have until they wear out.Games aren't supposed to last forever. If you want something that will, don't expect to pay 18 bucks.A haircut costs more than that, and it only lasts a week.Enjoy what it is.

    5-0 out of 5 stars M. Deluxe
Monopoly Deluxe is the best because it is the perfect board game! The box and the 2 blue cases inside are perfect because they don't tear easily. What about the things in the cases? Well, there are a lot of money in one of them, the chance and the (I forgot what those other small cards were called)are with the money and so are the cards for the places. The other case is for when you start playing, it's the bank. You will put the money in that and there are playing tokens, houses and hotels, and a special place where the dice goes. It is the best! Everything about it is perfect if you want to play during your family game nights! If you do buy it, I'm sure you won't regret it! ... Read more

Just how good are you at fooling your friends and family? Test your powers of deception with Malarky, the game in which players try to bluff answers to such questions as "What is the 'cottage' in cottage cheese?" and opponents try to determine the real answers from the ones that are simply malarky. It's based on David Feldman's Imponderables series, which includes the books Imponderables: The Solution to the Mysteries of Everyday Life, Do Penguins Have Knees? An Imponderables Book, and How Do Astronauts Scratch an Itch: An Imponderables Book. The game asks the questions that everyone wonders about from time to time. After a question is read aloud, one player (unbeknownst to the others) reads the correct answer, while the other players present bluff answers--as convincingly as they can--and then each player votes for the answer they think is correct. Points are awarded when your bluff answer receives votes or if you vote for the correct answer. --Lisa Whipple ... Read more

My family and I are board-game fanatics. At first we werent sure as to whether or not to try this game, we've had it for YEARS.One night my older brother decided that we have to try it atleast once...When we did, we couldn't stop laughing. This game as earned a spot next to Monopoly, Balderdash, Uno, and Scattergories(sp?).Don't think...BUY!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars is there a lie dector in the house?
Talk about your off the wall questions that you always wondered upon but just never knew the answers too with a twist of some question you do have a clue too.

It's funny to hear what people make up at the spur of the moment and almost scary to hear people you know lie so well that you believe their very answer as if it was a given fact. Its also extremely impressive when you or someone actually knows the answer.

I played this game with a group of people ranging from 41 to 14, we all enjoyed it.The first time we played we had teams, so dont stop up to six players, its still just as fun with a group, but diffidently more fun as individual.

There was a few times one member in the group would draw a blank to even begin to answer, the first time this happen, the player's answer was "Its a government conspiracy."Which became a running gag when anyone ever drew a blank for a bluff answer.

Malarky begins with a question, only one person in the room will have the correct answer, you dont know whom has it till after the round has ended. You go around the table and everyone bluffs their way through it along with the correct answer.Than all players guess afterwards to whom spoke the rightful answer..... than the truth comes to be known to who is able to lie through their teeth...ha!Points are won by guessing the rightful answer.

Have fun, laugh a little, and always make time to play.

    Editorial Review

Voted a Best Party Game of the Year by Games magazine, Wise and Otherwise belongs next to Pictionary and Scrabble in your arsenal of fun. This creative, interactive game (read: everybody shouting, flailing, laughing) revolves around 500 cards, each emblazoned with five obscure and long-forgotten sayings from around the world. For example, one old Chinese saying is, "Don't add salt to a boatload of salt fish." One side of the card states, "Don't add salt to..."and it is the job of the players to devise probable endings. "Don't add salt to salty soup," for example. Or, "Don't add salt to the open wound." (The actual endings are listed on the flip sides of the cards.) A player wins points when other players vote for his or her special ending, or when the player guesses the actual ending, so the goal is to finish the proverb as convincingly as possible given the geographic region in question. Each elegant box contains one game board, 500 cards, six writing pads, six pencils, one die, and six player pawns. People who love language, oddly hilarious translations, offbeat proverbs, or just making people look foolish by guessing their very clever answers will adore this game. We predict: The one who plays this game ... will hear the laughter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best board game I've ever played
This game is a blast. I've never written an online review before, but I felt like I needed to for Wise and Otherwise. I've had my copy for a few years now, and have probably played about forty games on it. (Each game takes at least an hour or two and is most fun with four to six people with roughly similar verbal skills / creative abilities, so it takes a little effort to get a game going.) It's definitely a little "slow" when you start out playing, but once everyone in the game has played once or twice and understands how to play, it becomes incredibly fun. You don't necessarily have to be a "word" person to like it, or even think of yourself as creative, though imagination helps. A little like Balderdash... but with the potential to be way more fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wise and Otherwise Board Game
This game is GREAT!!!Fun for multicultural groups, as well.I played once with a Canadian, a New Zealander, two Australians, an Egyptian and two Dutch women, and me, an American.Makes for VERY interesting responses and tremendous laughter! You can play without the board.Just take paper and pencils (included) and the cards. We took it to the beach on the Red Sea and played in between snorkelling and sunbathing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds lame... Really not lame!
My dad had this on his amazon wish list for years before someone finally bought it for him for Christmas. No one would play with him, we all thought it sounded lame. Finally, the next Thanksgiving, we conceded to play this game.We couldn't believe how fun it was.We loved it.

If you're thinking about getting this for someone you know, I would if I were you. Then you can play it... or buy one for yourself.I have it on my wish list now. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Board games go through a few steps on the road to immortality:from idea to published game, maybe a decent review in Gamesmagazine, inclusion in their annual Top 100, perhaps evenretirement to its Hall of Fame. But when they package a "Collector'sEdition" in a 10.5-inch-square metal tin, that game has arrived. So it is that the Game of Life, that topographical trek from "College"to "Millionaire Estates" with stops for home buying, baby rearing, taxes, night school, and career changes, joins the rarified iron-cladworld of Clue, UNO, and Monopoly special editions. All the familiarsare intact here: a colorful folding two-piece board with mountains andbuildings in relief, the patented number spinner, complete rules andequipment, and of course the car tokens fashioned of die-cast metal, which fit the tiny pink and blue people pegs. There's also a nifty"Life" lesson: pay careful attention as you empty the tin; fitting itall back in could take years off yours. --Tony Mason ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Get a Life
I was highly disappointed to find out I did not buy "The Game of Life"; what I did buy was a garbeage re-make of a one-time favorite game.If you like the original, go and find an original. This is a watered-down, no offense, travesty of a game. The career "options" aspect of the game doesn't even make sense. If you want a different game than the original, get this game, you may enjoy it.Just remember, the only thing that is the same as the original is the name.

1-0 out of 5 stars LIFEless, succorless pap
This game does not teach any life lessons, as the older (1960s) version did. You never worry about getting poor, or making errors, because everything always turns out well in this politically-correct version that dumbs down our children.
Don't buy it. Get the older version on internet auction, yard sale or thrift store. It's much more fun and educational. Hasbro, are you listening?
Durability: This is as durable as any other board game. No real complaints in that department.

    Editorial Review

It sounds so simple: get your team to name common words withoutvoicing a few choice descriptors. But could you describe a wristwatchwithout mentioning time, wrist, or clock? Taboo rewards those whothink--and speak--fast. The team that correctly identifies as manywords as possible in a minute (measured with an hourglass timer) wins.If a member of the opposing team, armed with the blaring buzzer, catches the clue giver using any of the taboo words, a point is deducted from the group's score. It's a good idea to separate peoplewho know each other well, because their familiarity can be too great anadvantage. If the clue is spinach, prompting with "Mom made this everyMonday" just doesn't seem fair, though it is permissible according tothe rules. Playing Taboo requires an AA battery and a sense ofhumor--you'll need them both! The timer is included. Taboo is for fouror more players. --Leah Ball ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great game worthy of buying
Taboo is a fun and exciting game full of laughs and enjoyable experiences. As you probably know, you try to get your team mate to guess (or you try to guess) the word on the Taboo card. You can't say any of the 5 taboos though, or you'll lose a point! I have played this game at a party at my friend's house. It's always challenging and exciting, trying to describe and guess the word. Even when you it's not your turn, you still get to have fun trying to buzz other people, so you don't often get bored. I rated this game 4 stars because it's often hard to find four people to play with, but when you do, it's very fun and exciting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun game...
Taboo is a game that I played as a kid & I never forgot about it.I remembered it being so much fun that I asked for it for Christmas several years in a row & I've finally got it.We really enjoy this game. It's so much fun for all ages & you may think it sounds really easy but you'd be amazed at how many times you actually slip & say one of the words listed on the card that you are not supposed to say. When that happensyou will get buzzed or when you pass on a card the other team will get a point. So sometimes when it's your teams turn to give clues the other team can actually come out with more points then you earned on that turn. It's such a great game that I highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good game for about a half hour

Can you draw a cat? How about sketching something that conveys the word area or The English Patient? Can you do it in less than 60 seconds while your team yells the wrong answers at you and the other team is close to getting it right? Welcome to the game of Pictionary, in which players attempt to guess words from sketches made by other members of their team. The words can be objects, people, actions, places, animals, or the dreaded "difficult," although in the heat of an exciting game, even house can be difficult. Word cards are randomly selected, the timer is activated, and players begin scribbling franticly as they race to beat the clock. Correct answers are rewarded with a toss of the die and progression around the board toward victory. Pictionary veterans should note that this is an updated edition of the game, including more than 1,000 new words to challenge even the most experienced quick-draw artist. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for non-artists too
The thing I love about Pictionary - apart from laughing at the crazy drawings people come up with - is that you don't have to be a great artist to win. That's good for me, I can tell you! You see, it's not so much how *well* you can draw, but more how well you can get a point across in *what* you draw. I've seen people guess the right answer from some pretty simple line drawings. In fact, you'll be amazed at how some partners seem to almost sense what the answer is.

I'm sure most people know how the game is played, but just in case, here's the gist:

There are several categories that come up randomly as you progress around the Pictionary board. Sometimes one person from each team draws (we make this rule apply all the time); otherwise one person draws and their partner guesses what their drawing means. The first person to guess before the timer runs out wins the round and that team rolls to go again. That's basically it anyway.

I love this game and I highly recommend it for a good night of entertainment with friends and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my most prized posessions!
My friends and I have taken Pictionary to a whole new level. Most of the time it's guys against girls, and the men in my life have yet to win a game! This is a game for everyone, although I have found that the better you draw, the worse it is for you.Artists tend to take there time, and when you're faced against the timer...all bets are off!I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes to get together with friends and have a good time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Blechy Blech
Before I begin to rant-get one thing straight. I LOVE BOARD GAMES!!! So you can imagine how bad this is, if someone like me, who owns at least 200 board games, despises it. One card. Five words. One minute's worth of sand trickling through the hourglass. In 25 Words or Less, can you describe the words on the card so that your teammates are able to guess them correctly?Selected as a Games magazine Game of the Year, 25 Words or Less is both fun and challenging. Will your teammates correctly shout out "squirrel!" in answer to your three-word clue "fluffy-tailed rodent"?On the same card, you'll have to provide clues for: wafer, Ethel Mertz, heater, and cord. If your teammates get all the answers within the word and time limits, your team wins the card. If not, the opposing team gets it. First team to win 10 cards wins the game. Next card. 5-0 out of 5 stars We just call it "Words"...
There is no equal to this game.Taboo, Outburst, Scattergories, Password - all good, but this is great.Minimum 6 people for maximum fun.Pick a creative, smart crowd though. If the word is "Pan" then "Tinkerbell" does the job faster than "Pot".The review below that said they couldn't get 1 word with 5 is very sad.We always start the bidding at 7 words and I've even seen 4 clues for 5 words once! There's no board so I throw the timer and the cards in my weekend bag everywhere we go in case of rain/snow.Inevitably a friend will say, "did you bring 'Words'?"

    5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE GAME!ALL-TIME FAVORITE!
It doesn't matter whether I play this game with my hard-core gaming friends or with my more social party-game friends: this is always "the" favorite. It is a real white-knuckle play requiring concentration, verbal-acuity, creativity and sometimes, um, vocal restraint.

The game has two parts: the bid (in which one bidder from each team bids the total number of words she will use --a la "Name That Tune"-- to get her teammates to guess all five words on a gamecard) and the play (in which the winning bidder offers clues to his teammates hoping to get them to say all five words within a minute for final point-possession of the card.)

We often play with three to a team instead of two. It's more fun.The bids rarely end above 13 and often get down to 7, though when the bids are that brazenly low they are almost always defeated!

I was 14 when my English teacher first taught me what a "kenning" was.It is the combination of two formerly unconnected nouns to convey the idea of another noun. For example, in the Odyssey, Homer refers to deer as "heather-steppers".This approach makes those two-word clues quite accessible: who could mistake the intention of "Kennedy-killer" or "Robin's Boss"?However, how many clue-words would it take you to get someone to say "loafer", "tinsel", "window pane" or "Dallas Cowboys"?Can't resist trying, can you?Once all of the players get the hang of it, the game is very competitive and a lot of fun for all.

3-0 out of 5 stars Slow, Restricted, and Creative
This word game came out to be hampered by the word restriction when I played. Two players bid down from 25 on how many words it'll take them to get their team to say five specific words.Success gains the card and failure forfeits it to the other team.It was tough to get people to say any words even without the time restriction.Someone would always win the bid at some ludicrous number like 5 just to take the bet, and then not get one word correct. The fact that the number of words is restricted prevented it from being a blurting game like Outburst or Taboo.I would recommend this game for large parties only. ... What an interesting idea...."If" asks all those questions no one ever thinks to ask. Inspiring thoughtful answers and a few moments of contemplation. It starts out as a game and ends as a revealing guide to character. A great way to break the ice at parties and boring business dinners. I love to present this book over a bottle of wine with someone I love, you would be amazed at what you don't know about those closest to you...hours of innocent fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Conversation Starter
This is such a fun book! It's especially great for group bonding--I have fond memories of spending a whole day by the lake with a group of fellow students and answering questions from this book. It's a great conversation starter and a good way to get to know people, especially people you hardly know. I recommend it for college students (it's great for meeting your new floor- or suite-mates), party hosts, team-building activity coordinators, and anyone else who needs an easy way to start discussions and get to know people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laughed so hard...
My family are avid board game players, and we absolutely love this game.We are a family of smart asses and it feeds right into our sense of humor. You answer the loaded questions (e.g. What is your best body part? What do you wish you never had to hear about again? What rich person do you think doesn't deserve it?) and try to guess who gave which answer. We work inside jokes into the questions and often answer sarcastically or try to throw each other off with answers we think others would give.Sometimes the person reading the answers cannot even get through them for laughing so hilariously. It depends on the group but I've nearly wet myself everytime I've played this.

Don't Be A Dork uses your intelligence and talent for improvised gimmicks--separating the great from the goofy. No one is safe. It's interactive and participatory, so it's great for parties and social icebreakers. But beware: Your own smarts and innovation could work against you. Dorks will be exposed--and if you're not a dork, this game may change your status if you're not careful. You'll end up doing things in front of other people you never thought you would. The game can accommodate four individuals or teams, and is challenging for anyone over the age of 13. A roll of the die determines who will get the shakedown first. After that, it's dork against dork. The person who emerges least shamed is deemed the winner.--Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Funniest Game I've Played!
This game is unlike any other I've played! The object of the game is to be the first Reach DORK PARADISE!All players start in the Gene Pool where they must choose weather they want to be a Dork or a Keener.Players then make their way up the D.N.A. (Dorks need Action) strand and begin a journey that will have everyone involved, laughing! The questions are Crazy,(some with no real answers) and the stunts are very original! This game is not for the shy! Some cards last the entire game (cry like a baby every time a 5 is rolled.) and some just for a round (get underneath a piece of furniture and take an item with you. pretend you are playing an instrument for the entire round).Be careful not to go to Another Demension! While there you must repeat everything you say twice for two rounds. You You Talk Talk Like Like This This Even Even When When It's it's Not Not Your Your Turn Turn. It's an unforgetable Journey that is sure to bring out the dork in anyone who plays it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Meh
This game would be super fun with three or four strong drinks under your belt.It is not for the shy or faint of heart. Many of the questions are pointless (which is kind of the point), but the impressions and strange activities can be fun if played with the right crowd and the right liquor.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or your money!!!
I'm not sure where the other reviews came from, especially the ones that say how great it is.It's a terrible game!I played this game with my kids and maybe they weren't the right people to play it with.I wouldn't waste my money on it if I were you.Once you get the game you'll wonder why anyone would ever pay 30.00 for it.Well we did, so it's now one of those games that will sit beneath our beds collecting dust.I wish I had gotten something else. The directions were terrible and you ended up making your own.Questions were idiotic and consisted of things like:"Why is there only a "Captain America", why not a "Captain Long Hair Japanese Guy"?But....don't take my word for it.Buy it if you have money to burn...by the way the answer to that question was .."What a dumb question!!!" ... The game is called Wit's End, which is just where you mightfind yourself when playing this lively contest of lateral, literal, andlevel-lifting thinking. Players try to reach the summit of the board byanswering questions in four categories such as Odd 1 Out, Teaser,Sequence, or the ever-troubling Wild Card--a nerve-jangling catchallfor trivia, slang, quotations, and time-limited queries. Wit's End istougher than most trivia-based games, and it's deceptive, too. Playersneedn't answer all categories to win, so how tough can it be to move upthe board? Well, for every "Arrange Jaws, The Sting, andStar Wars by release date" there's a "Borneo is to 3, asHispanola is to: 1, 2, 3, or 4?" (And it's got nothing to do withnumber of syllables--we peeked.) If you can name four Europeancountries starting with S (while an opponent counts to 30), canyou do as well with "millimeter is to centimeter, as chain is to: link, decimeter, furlong, or ounce"? There's also an optional "Sorry!"feature that allows you to bounce an opponent down a level for correctanswers to certain questions. Smart and sophisticated, with asoupçon of luck, Wit's End is a game to challenge both greatwits and those only halfway there. --Tony Mason ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Wit's End Indeed.
After reading all the glowing reviews, I was really excited about this game.I was very disappointed when I finally got the game and actually played it with my family, however. There are four categories of question, but these categories differ in how the question is asked, not the subject of the question. It's a nice idea, and with different subject matter might make the game interesting. The majority of the questions seem to involve history or dates in one way or another, however. If the question is about music or film, for example, it might involve placing placing releases in order from oldest to most recent.Current events questions might require the player to know which event occurred before a certain date.As someone who's more interested in the why and what than the when, I found myself bored and frustrated by this game.I like to learn something even when I get the question wrong, but I found myself not caring much about the right answer to a question if all it involved was knowing which obscure play was written before WWII, etc. Conclusion: if you're good at history and dates, you'll probably enjoy this game.Otherwise you'll probably be bored and anxious for the game to end.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really isa solid 10Game!
We had a blast playing this game.It was fun....challenging....informative....interesting....and down right entertaining. The great thing about this game is that unlike other Trivia games where if you do not know the answer, you just say "I don't Know", with Wit's End you are given choices to either put in order, eliminate or compare. That way you never say "I don't know" and instead use processes of elimination to come up with the right answer.A great social element about this game is that you are able to promote or demote other players based on right answers to some questions. This evened-out the playing field because everybody kept demoting the know-it-all and promoting the player which was falling behind. The questions cover all areas - pop culture, history, geography, science, sports, etc.The game is a solid 10.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT GAME FOR A SOCIAL GATHERING!
I usually get bored playing games, but playing WIT'S END was anything but boring. If you are interested in Trivia, History, Geography, Sports, Popular Culture.....this game is for you.The questions are uniquely formed around four different types -TEASERS, ODD1OUT, SEQUENCE and WILD CARD.The TEASERS are comparisons and you need to find the correct relationship. The ODD1OUTs are exactly what it says, you need to find the out one out.The SEQUENCE is arranging things in order. The WILD CARD is just that - an anything goes category which keeps you on your toes.We had a great evening playing this game. There is a fun special mechanism in the game where you can promote and demote players for correct answers to certain questions. You really can't go wrong with this game -it is a keeper! ... For the true Trivial Pursuit connoisseur! This fantastic version of the tremendously popular original celebrates "the facts and follies of the past 1,000 years." Moving around a circular track, players collect wedges for correct answers to questions such as: What island do most of the North Atlantic icebergs come from? What South African described meeting the Spice Girls as "one of the greatest moments of my life"? How many men have walked on the moon? The remaining 3,597 questions (including those on 105 full-color photo cards) are housed in a collectible wedge-shaped tin package (10 inches by 13 inches)--along with the folding game board (18.5 inches in diameter), die, colorful transparent card holder, scoring wedges, and wedge holder. Players make their way to the hub through six categories of queries in hopes of answering the game-winning question. Don't wait till the next millennium for fun like this! 2-0 out of 5 stars I'm not a trivial buff at all, but I was able to win pies.
I got this as a gift too, so I'm glad I didn't spend money for this. This game's questions are for those that are NOT trivial buffs. Most of these questions were more like general knowledge, for those who don't normally play trivial pursuit. Those geniuses would probably get bored with this version. The pie colors are hard to distinguish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game for the common sense crowd
This is by far the best Trivia Pursuit version I've played, because the questions are interesting and relevant. While it always helps to be a factoid whiz, you won't need to be one to play and win this version. I do agree with other reviews that the pie colors are a little odd (two are so similar that it's tricky to tell them apart), but when you finally win a pie, do you really care? I highly recommend this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This isn't a load of balderdash
This year at Thanksgiving we decided toplay Balderdash, a game which had been sitting at the back of my cousin's closet forever. I played with my aunts, uncles, and 6 of mycousins. We played for hours and had a blast. One of my younger cousins did exceptionallly well. I give this game 5 stars all the way! Besides showing off our creativity we laughed our selves silly( I actually felll over and off my chair because I was laughing so hard at one point!)

I love this game! And so does my 7 year old sister and 50 year old father, and the rest of the family too! (which includes a 13, 21, 23, and 49 year old) I can play it with my college friends as well. I would reccomend it to anyone. By and far my favorite game ever!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game for parties!
This is quite possibly the best game in the history of the world. OK, that might be a stretch, but it is certainly my favorite. If you have friends like mine (full of bull and quick on their feet) then this is a great game for any get together.

Balderdash is a game in which players are given an obscure (might be the understatement of the decade) word and must make up their own definition of the word. This definition is read along with the real definition and players attempt to guess the correct definition.

The only way I would improve Balderdash: Give us more tablets with the game because the tablets included run out way too quickly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Similar to a card game
This is a take off of an old card game, the rules to which can be found, I believe, it Hoyles. However, like Uno (based on the card game Crazy Eights), it's easy and fun to have a special deck and basic instructions printed out for everyone to follow.

It's got some similarities to rummy, you go for runs and sets, but the trick is you have to acomplish 10 "phases" thus the name.

This is a fun family or party game and can be played with kids and grownups together.

5-0 out of 5 stars best family game

5-0 out of 5 stars fun for kids, college students and grandparents
phase 10 is probably the best card game ever invented. i don't know how many nights i stayed up until 3am playing this game in college. you can play it in a group of any size; the more the better. it is easy enough for young children to understand and equally changelling for adults. players compete against eachother to complete a series of ten phases before anyone else; all the while having the least amount of points. while your winning is based mostly on luck, depending on what cards you are dealt, there is some strategy involved. you can keep your neighbors from taking their turn by skipping them, or reversing the order of the game, all the while strategizing the quickest way to 'go out' before anyone else. the only thing really "educational" about this game is that you learn the basic concept of playing cards, which is good for children. as for durability; they do get dirty pretty easily, but they do hang in there for a while (my advice--buy the ones in the tin). while it's similar to rummy and UNO, phase 10 is completely unique. grab some friends, plently of junk food, a spot on the porch and you're guaranteed to have a blast. ... Being a Sim must be pretty nice. Through the magic of expansion packs, the little virtual people have been given party favors (House Party),magic genies (Livin' Large), and hot dates (um... Vacation Island is an idyllic placethat has sun, fun, and beaches on one side of the island, snow and skiing on theother, and, in the middle, a forest perfect for camping. A trip to VacationIsland is the perfect reward for your hard-working Sims, and a fun diversion foryou--like all Sims expansions, Vacation is full of quirky Sims-stylehumor, and not everything on Vacation Island is good for your Sims.

A trip to Vacation Island isn't cheap; you have to pay for travel andaccommodations for the entire family, as well as entertainment. And just like areal vacation, you can run out of money fast. Thankfully, while on vacation yourSims' needs are slowed down significantly. They're having fun, and you don'thave to micromanage them nearly as much as you do at home. This allows you tosit back more and just observe your Sims playing with the often-funny new stuff.Stuff like a boardwalk Whack-a-Will (named for Sims creator Will Wright) game, aguy dressed as a shark who tries to terrorize the tourists, and new activitiessuch as camping, building snowmen, playing volleyball, snuggling on a bear skinrug (or picnic blanket), and hitting the ski courses and snowboard half-pipe.When it's time to go home, your Sims can take a few reminders of the trip, bothbeneficial (souvenirs that increase happiness) and detrimental (a commontropical illness). these games are so amazing and so funny. you can make you dream house with your dream soul mate and even make enemy rivals live on the same property. i had a girl propsing to a guy in the middle of the street in a swim suit. well like i said and amazingly fun time for time on your PC....

5-0 out of 5 stars Vacation?!?!
Whoa! What a game! In this vacation game, you could do more actions then the actions in the neighborhood. And this is like the same thing like YOU do when you go to vacation. It's almost the same thing! And if the Sims can talk to you, they probably would say thank you for bringing them to vacation. I like the game because, the Sims can play games, win tickets, buy prizes, rent tents and - this is interrupt because there is SO much things you could do and less time. I noticed that every new Sims game you install, you get more things.

If I was in one of the hotels I would play all day long and forget about eating or my energy. I would fish,(If my dad lets me.)and swim too. One of my FAVORITE things to do is build hotels. If I hadn't seen this game, I would have only read, draw, Play Battle Front(A Playstation game.),Do other electronics, sleep and play cards.

Note: If you have a hard time with your money, click the Shift key, the control key (Ctrl), and C at a time.then, first write rosebud, then do it again and do !;!;!;!;!;!;! until it fills the whole line. Bye!

I really like everything about this game!I like that the Sims can go on vacation several times. You can buy one rug that costs a lot...it's a white bear rug that the Sims can sit on.There are more beds to choose from when you want to buy a bed.Another thing I really like about this game is when the Sims rent a metal detector. They find really funny things like old boots, money, and treasure! You can get a lot of prize tokens and get lots of stuffed animals. There isn't anything that I don't like about this game. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Rules but Little Expert Advice
Frey (the author) provides the rules and history for an impressive, although not exhaustive, list of card, board and casino games. He succinctly describes the history and the rules of each game. The rules are written fairly clearly, although those who are not familiar with the proper jargon may find them difficult to follow. Moreover, Frey provides almost no "expert advice on winning play" as the subtitle of the book promises. Advice on strategy is reserved to only a handful of games and, when provided, it is too short and commonsense to enhance anyone's play. You may wish to purchase this book as a general reference on the rules of the game, but do not expect it to improve your play.

2-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to understand
I found this book quite difficult to understand. It has too much jargon, and the instructions to the games are sometimes unclear. There is no glossary. It seems to be aimed at an audience that is already familiar with most of the games.

A great read for anyone interested in cards. I managed to pretend to my friends that I knew nothing about cards before cleaning them out after reading this book... ... Read more

    Editorial Review

This little lovable furry bear has that comfortable, shaggy lookreminiscent of an old pair of jeans--you just never want to give him up. Caramelbrown, approximately 18 inches high and machine-washable, Schlepp--aptly namedbecause kids are sure to schlepp him around--will fast become a favorite bedtimefriend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars what a great buddy
I have had numerous bears...most of them Gund...and I must say they are fantastic...durable...soft...plush...and most of all cuddly....I have put them in the washer numerous times and they come out good as new...when it comes to bears there are none better...you must have a Gund

5-0 out of 5 stars My son has loved this bear since 8 mos old!
Our bear has traveled around the world with us for the past three years. Our son sleeps with him every night and has put poor bear through all kinds of predicaments. Never have we had problems with the stitching, fur, or any other manufacturing problem. Of course, he is quite dirty, and despite repeated washings, his fur is rather matted. Indeed, we could easily pick out our bear among a truckful of Schlepps (possibly by the smell alone). I've watched our son dress him up, treat him like a baby (especially when his little sister was born)and capture bad guys with him. He's the absolute perfect size to use as a pillow, and he's not so big that you can't pull him along by just his arm.

I can't recommend him highly enough. I'm purchasing another one for a friend who's having a baby. After three children, we have boxes full of stuffed animals. This is by far the tops!

Are all the previous reviewers talking about the same bear?I own the big Schlepp and a little Schlepp.Immediately after reading about durability problems, I went in and pinched/pulled on them.No fur, no shedding. For the last three years I've been traveling with the small bear, photographing him in interesting places, and he's held up very well...with no sign of shedding fur. While the bear is "just" a teddy bear, he's...educational for my nephews and ... is the perfect focus. ...
