    Editorial Review

Though it looks like a toy, don't be fooled: the Nintendo GameCube is a powerful video game console that rightly deserves its place among the other next-generation game systems. In fact, its playful, appealing design and small size (the unit is a not-quite-cubed 6 inches) aren't the only features that set it apart from the others.

For starters, Nintendo has quite clearly made this a game-only machine. It doesn't try to play your CD collection, run your movies, read your e-mail, or store your MP3 files. The company has concentrated its efforts on games. All the prelaunch titles we've seen play smoothly, with bright, fast graphics and great sound. Nintendo says its engineers have removed traditional bottlenecks that have, in the past, slowed down processing. New components designed by IBM and MoSys, as well as a large-capacity secondary memory cache, keep instructions moving through the system's microprocessor (MPU) at peak levels. In English: the GameCube is optimized to push speed up while pushing costs down; hence its position at the lower end of the price spectrum.

The GameCube is the first Nintendo video game system to use a disc-based medium rather than cartridges for its games. Moving the software to disc media generally means lower development costs for the publishers, which, in turn, trickles down to the consumer not only in price, but also in availability and quality, as it's then easier to try out untested game ideas (Pikmin, anyone?). While most other systems likewise have their games stored on discs, the GameCube's 3-inch format is smaller than everyone else's, and is so designed to fit in a shirt pocket as much as to deter would-be software pirates.

Of course, the main advantage of the GameCube is that it's the home field of one of the world's premier game designers: Nintendo. While powerhouses Electronic Arts and Sega make games for all systems (including this one), you can play Nintendo games only on a Nintendo system. And Nintendo, you might recall, has been hitting them out of the park since it started with Donkey Kong. In fact, here's a roll call of characters and series you won't find on the other consoles: Mario, Legend of Zelda, Perfect Dark, Metroid, Kirby, and, of course, Pokémon. A few names that the GameCube will share with the other guys: Madden, Tony Hawk, Sonic, Batman, and Star Wars.

The system also comes with four built-in controller ports, so you can easily plug in extra controllers and let friends join in for the multiplayer games--it's even got a built-in handle so you can easily move it to a friend's house. It comes with two memory card slots for saving your progress through games, and there's the capacity for future expansion into the world of online gaming.

In short, the GameCube isn't an all-in-one entertainment system, and neither is it the most powerful of the modern video game consoles. But for video game enthusiasts who want to stick with their favorite characters, its value cannot be beat. --Porter B. Hall

4-0 out of 5 stars I don't know why everyone complains
It's just beyond me why everyone thinks that NGC is for "little kids" Who really cares if the games aren't violent? Do we live in a society where we can only get fun by blasting guys' heads off? I don't think so. Nintendo makes awesome games like Mario and Zelda that are fun for everyone.
They say the controllers are small. I got news for you, they're almsot the exact same size as a PS2 controller. I own both. Hold up the controllers together, and you'll see. I have pretty big hands, and I think that the controllers are perfect.
Another thing I often hear is that it doesn't play CDs. IT'S A VIDEO GAME CONSOLE! Why on earth does it need to play CDs/DVDs? A game console is meant to play video games. That's what nintendo does. Sony seems to want to make some kind of super multimedia machine. I'm glad that nintendo focuses on the original point of video game consoles.
The only big problem I have with GC is that it doesn't have online capabilities, and no hard drive.(keeping track of all those memory cards gets annoying)
Other than that, don't believe all the stuff you hear about this being a "kiddie system" Unless you're the type who can't enjoy a game that doesn't involve loads of cursing and violence, you'll enjoy GC

    Editorial Review

Six years. Six long years we’ve had to wait for a new Mario game, and finally it’s here. And even considering the ridiculously unfair expectations, Super Mario Sunshine is almost entirely as good as you’d hope and expect.

The premise of the game is that Mario’s tropical holiday is ruined when he’s stitched up by an evil look-alike for daubing graffiti all over the island. Rather conveniently, there’s a water pump waiting for him to use, which not only washes away the mess but also doubles as a handy jet pack. The jet pack aspect means that whenever you fall off something you have the chance to immediately recover. This built-in safety net means the game can afford to be far more ambitious in its level design than ever before, with massive levels filled with trampolines, tightropes, water-powered windmills, huge coral reefs, and mountains and mountains of platforms.

The whole thing looks amazing, too, with the most realistic water ever seen in a video game, and a near-infinite draw distance. On top of all this are rideable, fruit-juice-spewing Yoshis, extra water nozzles, super-hardcore platform levels where Shadow Mario nicks your jet pack, and goop-generating bosses who seem to live to make Princess Peach’s laundry a nightmare.

After the sweet but rather short pleasures of Luigi’s Mansion and Pikmin, you need have no fear that Mario Sunshine is of a similarly brief nature. There are a total of 120 shines to collect--the same number of stars as in Super Mario 64--and the game world is at least as large and far more interactive. This is without question the best game on the GameCube yet. That may be no more than you'd expect from a Mario game, but it's certainly more than most of us mere mortals deserve. --David Jenkins ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good, and bad
This is a great game. I loved how they made an odd story. Mario and Peach going on vacation and then Bowser and his son take over The island. It is really odd and ridiculous to have a plot like that. This game reminds me of Super Mario 64. But in another way,it's totally different. You see,it's the same because the plot is identical to SM 64. But it's different because you are collecting Sun's,not stars. Just to make a long story short, the story and everything just dos'nt seem the same. You have to play both opf the versions to now what I mean. It's still a great game, just not the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars greatest game
this is a great game it is both hard and easy. it is hard because the levels are hard but the controls are very simple. it is a must get it is good to get it now so you don't regret not buying it of of amazon. only problem 1player but it is a must get

4-0 out of 5 stars A great title.
I loved the fact they brought out a new Mario game and this time with Yoshi but I must admit I thought Mario could have had a few more moves instead of Jump - Long Jump - Water Spout. Don't get me wrong, the visuals are fantastic and the game is really fun, but a few more moves would have made this game great. The plot is interesting too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Animal Crossing: Nintendo's Answer to the Sims!
Animal Crossing is the first game I got for my GameCube.I picked it up for only $20, way less than it's worth.

You start out by naming your character and riding the train to your town. Then you meet the villagers and Tom Nook, who runs the local store. One of the coolest features about this game is all the spontaneous parts: finding a duck washed up on the beach, shaking a tree to find a bee's nest fall out, or even chasing a floating present tied to a balloon around town.

This game may not appeal to those gamers out there who play games for the violence, but for anyone else...this game, in my opinion, is better than the Sims, or even the Sims 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks!

1-0 out of 5 stars bore me to death
...ok so heres the idea of the game....take an action genre such as first person shooter..thats typicaly fulled of action and fun...and instead make it incredibly boring...but give the consumer lots of needless information like "this plant is the jugahuga plant"..I DONT CARE!!

this game bores meeee the boss fight where u were runnign around it was pretty fun but thats the only action in the game...the world was beautiful and everythign was beautiful...but i didnt 'click' with this world... it just felt like i was looking at a pretty moving picture....kind of the equivalent of watching somebody else playing.......then again i like watching my friends play games..but..just not this one...

In Super Monkey Ball, you're in control of a cute little monkey trapped inside a transparent ball. The objective of the game is deceptively simple: tilt the floor with your analog stick so that your monkey ball rolls towards the goal. Your success is all in the thumb: the more you tilt, the faster the ball rolls. Just be sure not to fall off the edges! You can play with up to four others to see who can master the tilt and get their monkeys to the finish line ahead of the pack. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I played it twice and just had to buy it!! Everyone should like this game so just BUY IT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game
My family enjoys the Mario Party games, and are always looking for games that are similar in gaming style. This is a really comparable game with a lot of interesting ideas. There are many ways to play each with benefits.

There is regular play which is much like the old "Marble" game, piloting a ball up and down slopes, across narrow passages, until you reach the goal.It gets harder as you go higher in stages. In this method of play you can earn points to unlock more games such as bowling.

In party mode, you can race, fight, and play monkey target (my personal favorite).Monkey target is rolling your ball down a hill, and then taking off for flight at the end of the ramp. Then you navigate the ball through the air trying to reach one of the targets.Close the ball when you think you have good aim, and hope you stay on receiving points for where you landed on the target.

Definately a good game for a group of people, and entertaining enough to hold a solo player's interests.

5-0 out of 5 stars not for kids who want to win
I had never heard of the Gamecube title called Super Monkey Ball before I walked into my friend's bedroom to find it sitting on the shelf.I proceeded to inspect the game case and eventually realized my friend was actually playing the game at the time.So I sat down and watched him for a bit before he eventually asked me if I'd like a go.I said sure and within 24 hours I owned this mother of a gem.

If you've never played this game or it's sequel, you are missing out on some serious fun.

For starters, there is a pretty good amount of things to do in this game, from the basic story mode, which is insanely difficult for the most part, to the mini-games, like bowling and flying. The games are fun and addictive, espescially with a friend or two.You will find yourself going round after round, rolling down a huge ramp only to be shot off the end and launched into the clear blue sky.You then open your ball up and use it as a glider to navigate your monkey through the air and try to land of score specific targets floating in the water. If you miss, you fall in the water and get nothing except a whining monkey, who is also drowning for a brief period of time.

I can't really say too much about this game that isn't just praising the fun level of it.There really is no story, you are just a group of monkeys and for some reason they are in balls.I really don't know the story behind that.

So go out and buy this game, or have a swarm of angry, monkey-toting balls on your hands...wait a minute, that doesn't sound right... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars too hard
I was expecting this game to be easy but it wasnt ' i think sonic team at least shouldve added a handicapp mode on story mode where it gets easy but instead they didnt ' the levels are just to hard and annyoying and walkthroughs make it sound like the game is easy when its not

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Game
In a gaming world dominated by big names such as Halo, Half Life, Warcraft, and Final Fantasy, the Monkey Ball series provides players with a new meaning of fun.

First off, it is an easy game to pick up play. Similar to Katamari Damacy, you don't have to be a gaming master, or "gosu" as people call it, or devote hundreds of hours to hardcore practicing to play the game at a competent level. In fact, the beauty of Super Monkey Ball 2 is that you don't have to be good at all and you'll still enjoy it. This game is undoubtedly harder than Super Monkey Ball 1, but learning is part of the process to any game.

The main part of the game itself consists of you having to maneuver your way through different courses and worlds to reach the end, while collecting secrets on your way to "beating" the game. Those secrets range from unlocking new multiplayer games to obtaining new music. Besides that, there is a plethora of party games that can keep children and adults alike entertained for hundreds of hours.

All in all, this game is just plain fun. The game tries to keep cutthroat competition at a minimum and makes it enjoyable for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pulled out of the shelf
I was 9 when I bought this- I had previously wanted a game (I can't remember the game, unfortunately.), I happened out to pick one that looked pretty interesting. It was Super Monkey Ball 1.

Judging by myself, I had a pretty hard time. I haven't played it three years, because I had been playing it wrong.

Here is, you're a monkey in a ball, rolling to get in the goal. It may look kiddy, but is fun to master, and the physics are great. 6 mini-games in the original, 12 in the sequel, the replay value can get pretty high if you're into the games.

    The mini-games are:
Monkey shot (like Time Crisis), Monkey Boat, Monkey Tennis, Monkey Soccer, Monkey Dogfight, Monkey Bowling, Monkey Golf, Monkey Billiards, Monkey Target, Monkey Fight, and Monkey Race.

As I sit and watch the records on Vortiginous (http://server1.vortiginous.com/smb/), mostly by the famed Packattack, both games are fun.

If you want somethinnng more challenging to master, Super Monkey Ball 1 is your best bet. If you love mini-games, go for #2.

(If you buy this, don't forget: if you complete Expert without a continue, you get Expert Extra. Expert Extra without a continue: Master. Master Mode without a continue, Master Extra. Expert EX to Master EX is NOT story mode stages.) ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Fox McCloud is back, but he’s left the on-the-rails, shoot-'em-up larks of his previous two games behind--this all-new Star Fox adventure sees the super furry animal in a very Zeldaesque bid to save Dinosaur Planet.

Although the control system is very similar to The Legend of Zelda's, Star Fox Adventures is no simple clone. It’s your job as the mercenary mammal to find all the spellstones that will rejoin the splintered planet and defeat the evil General Scales. This entails much exploring of ancient temples and completing of subquests to help everything from Yorkshire-accented woolly mammoths to pterodactyls who've lost their babies.

The game may lack the epic scale and endless invention of Zelda but it has plenty of new ideas of its own, including a fully interactive dinosaur sidekick, some cool shoot-'em-up sections in Fox’s spaceship, and lots of ways to upgrade a magical staff--your weapon of choice when out of your ship. To add some icing to the cake, the graphics are absolutely amazing, particularly the superrealistic fur effects. --David Jenkins, Amazon.co.uk ... Read more

Starfox Adventures is a great game, though not without its faults. Dinosaur Planet is being taken over by the evil General Scales. It's up to the Starfox Team to get him out of there!! So the great Fox McCloud sets off to accomplish just that. Along the way, you will interact with interesting characters and the plot takes a few twists and turns. Gameplay consists of finding items-do this, pull that, kill him, etc, etc. Some of the puzzles can get pretty arduous, however, so I reccomend buying the strategy guide. The game goes above and beyond in terms of length, clocking in at about 30 hours for the average gamer. To top it all off, Rare went above and beyond and made the graphics B-E-A-Utiful!!Buy!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Starfox SUCKS!
Starfox 64 was great. But now they have gone to this "Use your crappy magic staff" formula. And guess what? It was a BAD idea! What happened to getting in your ship and blasting the hell out of everything in sight!?!? You use magic powers in some dino-land, with crappy magic going on! Fox uses blaster rifles, and the arwing! Not magic staffs and ancient dinosaurs! This is a very very very boring game! Fox, whats up with the magic staffs??? THis is like taking away Arnold Swartzenegger's AK-47 and giving him a lollipop! DO NO BUY.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Different Kind Of Fox
It always becomes as a surprise about just how much Nintendo puts out there for so many of their delightful video games. Yet, with all of those characters to choose from, some of those remain as cult classics. In 1997, Nintendo hit the nail on the head with the revolutionary Star Fox 64. The game was not just groundbreaking in the game, but also for the player it was groundbreaking because you could feel what the game is like. Nintendo has tried it again with a different kind of Star Fox. This one seems more as if Fox has joined the cast of The Legend Of Zelda, rather than made it as a game of his own. No matter for Fox and Company, because they still have made it a great game to undergo.

Star Fox Adventures for the Nintendo Gamecube, is a different kind of Star Fox game. The idea of the game is to restore the Dinosaur Planet, Sauria from fatal destruction from the villainous General Scales, and the even more foolish, Andross. The game places Fox, trying to do whatever it takes to save Krystal, a young war fighter from General Scales, with the help of Tricky, and a mighty staff that can do just about anything. The graphics and the sound on the gameplay are just amazing, and gorgeous with every beautiful detail. The storyline also hits a home run as well, with each nook and cranny told beautifully. The control does function quite well as well. It is very simple to operate, and the gameplay is very well put in itself.

While some may feel that Star Fox Adventures isn't worth the challenge as it is with Star Fox 64, or the recently released Star Fox Assault for the Nintendo Gamecube, the game is really a well worth one for anybody who wants a challenge for the Gamecube. I suggest this as a add-on for anybody who is into the feel of Fox McCloud.

    Editorial Review

Resident Evil, the game that is often credited with starting the survival-horror genre, is being reinvented for the GameCube. For those unfamiliar with the series, a mysterious corporation has secretly been performing ungodly biotech experiments in the sleepy little town of Raccoon City. When reports of gory attacks come in from nearby areas, two crack military squads are sent to investigate. Players take the role of either sharpshooter Chris Redfield or demolitions expert Jill Valentine to track down the source of the town's problems--specifically, something in a decaying mansion that's mutating animals into grotesque killers and turning humans into bloodthirsty zombies. Supplies and ammunition are scarce, so players have to know when to fight, when to run, and how to keep their wits about them. Players can't afford to waste their shots and expect their characters to survive.

The story is being retrofitted with motion-captured animation, next-generation graphics, real-time lighting and shadow effects, new areas, and newly rendered in-game video segments to create an even more cinematic experience. Also, a redesigned combat system lets players attack and defend themselves with a variety of items found in the environment. ... Read more

Everyone knows by know the problems with the imfamous Resident Evil controls. But, if you can look past that, you'll find a very intresting, fun, exciting, challenging adventure game ripe with zombies and other creatures just asking to be killed by you. One of the best additions to this game (and one of the most annoying thanks to the controls) is the fact that zombies don't die until they've been burned to nothingness or you have destroyed the brain. Now, while that is great for people like myself who love zombies and love the added touch as it is more accurate to zombie lore, the controls and the fact that you can't your shots at their head means you're going to be using a lot of kerosine to burn a lot of zombies. (becuase of you don't...watch out.) Other than that minor gripe, you get used to the controls in 20 mintues at most (or already know them since Resident Evil has been around for a while now) and after that, you're in for one enjoying experience. 5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!! dont miss out on this
This was actually the first resident evil game I played, so I was completely blown away. Incredible visuals and hanting music along with intelligent enemies makes it very scary. The game puts in the position of cool characters too

The game is still plagued by the prescence of save ribbons, itemboxes, backtracking, and really small inventory space. You may also die a lot. But its all part of the experience of Survival Horror. No matter who you are you should but this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars An incredible remake of an incredible game
Well, Capcom shows once again that they know what they are doing when it comes to survival-horror games and this one does not disappoint. This game is basically a remake of the original classic Resident Evil game on the PS1, now with beautiful graphics and sound that really make it a must have for horror fans. Although I personally like this and the original about the same, they both need to be played in order to appreciate the series to its fullest. Every single part of this game is brillant and if you've some how managed to avoid the original or this one, then you really need to get them both. This is easily one of my favorite Gamecube games and I'm sure I'll enjoy it for years to come. ... Read more

    • This new system allows players to follow the adventure of both characters successively by using the 'Zapping' ability. This ability allows players toswitch between the two main characters at the blink of an eye. If either character runs out of health, the game is over. An interesting twist on the Resident Evil formula in that storage crates no longer exist, you play as two characters whom you can switch between at any moment, and you can now drop things when they become useless. However, it takes a couple steps back from the previously released remake of Resident Evil. No longer do you need to destroy the brain or burn a zombie to destroy it completely and while no storage crates is more realistic, it just creates a lot of needless backtracking to get a certain item you left somewhere. Also, while having two playable characters may sound good in theory, soon enough you'll just play as Billy thanks to his ability to take more punishment and use Rebecca as a sort of pack mule since she can carry more items. Not a bad game by any means, but not as good as the remake of Resident Evil. NnyCW for CapCity

3-0 out of 5 stars WARNING for Resident Evil 4 fans....
This is NOT Resident Evil 4.It isn't even close. It is a micro-management nightmare.Coming off of the "high" of RE4,I went right out and got RE0 and RE1.RE4 is one of the best games I have EVER played, on any system... period. And I thought I would continue the fun with all the previous games.NOT SO!It is a very different game.
Usually, when you kill all the bad guys in a room, you have the fun, "reward", of picking up all the "goodies" in the room. Not in this game though...Because of your very limited cary space, you have to start deciding what you are willing to drop,in order to get the new item. And to me,that sucks.Sure, you can go back and pick things up,but it still sucks, and takes away from the atmosphere of the game.Rather than being able to fully sink into this world and feel like you are really in the situation, you are stuck always fighting micro-management puzzles... which completely takes you OUT of the feel of the game.
Now, if that is what you are used to,it may very well be worth your time. But, for me,it just ruined everything.
Graphics, music, sound, story, atmosphere??... I would give it 10 stars if I could in those areas...but,TO ME, the game shoots itself in the foot, and take you OUT of this incredible wold,by creating silly ass micro-management problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This game is pretty well done actually! This is a definite addition to the series as a prequel! The game's story takes place before the first Resident Evil takes place. This time you get to witness the beginning of Umbrella's mess in the eyes of Rebecca Chambers along with Billy Coehn. What's unique about this over the first series however is the "Buddy System" and the "inventory"!

The buddy system works just fine and it is pretty fun to fight along side with your partner. One thing I noticed though is that to easily get a zombie off of you "WITHOUT" taking damage is to have your partner shoot them off of you! That's just one example on how working with your buddy is essential when solving puzzles, playing on hard mode, and especially the bonus game you get after beating the game! Loading times aren't too bad when switching from one character to another even if they're in another room. Gamecube is really a powerful system to innitiate short loading times!

The inventory is pretty neat too! Not much of a huge change but you get drop unwanted items anywhere in the game! What's good about that is that you don't have to go back to a storage box like in the other Resident Evil games! Your map will locate the exact spot on where you left the items! It works really well in the game plus with the new "Buddy System", it's essential to do such action.

Great game, great new buddy system, inventory works well, almost flawless. I just wish the ending shows more things but you should see for yourself. The bosses are pretty cool but too bad some of them are a little too easy for their appearance! Pre-rendered graphics works exactly like the remake of Resident Evil 1 and it's still breathtakingly stunning! Controls is just like all the other Resident Evils with the exception of Resident Evil 4 and it's still the same! Nothing wrong with it at all! If you played all the other Resident Evil series before 4, then you should be used to it by now and for me, the controls are flawless! Try not to compare this over Resident Evil 4 or you may not enjoy this at all! This game should be judged by it's quality and is however an instant classic! Great game, worth buying! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Sega's mascot made his 3-D debut on the Dreamcast, but with the demiseof that system the zippy blue hedgehog is popping up everywhere--including onthe GameCube. Unfortunately, his first next-gen appearance, Sonic Adventure2: Battle, is marred by the same 3-D camera problems that plagued theDreamcast version, and the multiplayer "battle" component isn't all that it'scracked up to be.

Right out of the gate, players have the option of choosing Hero (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) or Dark (Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge) quests, which arecompletely different. Sonic and his dark counterpart Shadow traverse levels atwarp speed colleting coins and power-ups while fighting enemies in the game'smost exhilarating moments. Unfortunately, the other characters are nowhere nearas fun to play. Dr. Eggman and Tails fight through levels that require littlemore than constant button-mashing to shoot an endless procession of enemies, andKnuckles and Rouge participate in seemingly endless levels that requiresearching for a variety of objects.

Graphically, the game is a bit of a letdown considering the processing muscle ofGameCube. Models are fairly simplistic, and level textures are sometimes bland.Game Boy Advance owners can use a link cable to download Chao from the game andtrain them on the go, but the rewards for doing so are minor considering thetime investment involved. The main feature this game offers over its Dreamcastpredecessor is the variety of multiplayer modes, which are fun but offer none ofthe depth or replayability of standalone multiplayer games like Super SmashBros. Melee. Still, they are nice additions--especially the racinggames--and round out a flawed single-player component. Sonic addicts who missed thisgame the first time around on the Dreamcast will definitely want to check itout, but the finicky camera, tedious non-Sonic/Shadow levels in single-playermode, and surprisingly shallow multiplayer components (especially the Chaogames) turn what could have been a great game into a mere good one. --T. ByrlBaker

    Pros:

    • Plenty of variety
    • Sonic/Shadow levels are pure, unadulterated fun
    Cons:

I bought this game a year ago. I wanted it ever since 2000,but didnt have a gamecube. So when I saw the last copy of SA2B, I ran to it. After a year, I still play it. Action race (2P) should have been made for 1P, but it's still a great game. Not "player's choice." More like "best video game ever" try to squeeze that on the top of the game name on the casing!!! ^v^

Dreamcast makes a return of the cube!

I reconmend this game to anyone.

Sonic and company are back and better than ever in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Nintendo GameCube. Dr. Eggman is up to his old tricks, and it's up to Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles to stop him yet again. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle features faster action, all-new two-player games, and a branching storyline that lets you choose to save the world as the Hero side, or conquer it as the Dark side. Two new playable characters enter the Sonic universe -- a mysterious dark hedgehog called Shadow, and a jewel-thieving bat named Rouge. In the single-player mode, you'll go through more than 30 unique stages, which include everything from a forgotten pyramid, an abandoned military base, and a giant space station. Then there's the expanded two-player mode, which features 12 playable characters competing in new head-to-head games. All of this adds up to Sonic's biggest adventure yet!

New two-player "Battle" mode featuring action racing, treasure hunting, shooting, kart racing, Chao racing, and the comical new Chao karate.

12 playable characters -- Six hero and dark characters plus six others from the Sonic series, including Amy Rose, Metal Sonic, and Chaos Zero.

Cable Link with Game Boy® Advance -- Raise and train your Chao on the go!

Single-player Adventure mode lets you try to save the world as Sonic and friends, or conquer it as Shadow, Rouge, and Dr. Robotnik.

New Moves -- Grind down rails, grab ledges, and swing from poles.

Normally, Nintendo contract players such as Mario, Pikachu, Link, DonkeyKong, Bowser, and Kirby are generally happy and well-mannered, but in SuperSmash Bros. Melee, the pleasantries get thrown out and the gloves (exceptfor Mario's) come off. This update of the N64 favorite features these and othervideo game icons in furious, yet utterly absurd fisticuffs that usually make fora smashing good time. Just make sure you have at least one human opponent topound on.

Starting off with 14 characters (an additional 11 are waiting to be unlocked),the game has a pretty standard premise--let Nintendo's stars beat on each otheruntil the timer runs out. However, a lot of emphasis is put on knockingopponents off ledges while avoiding the same fate. In typical Nintendo manner, there are quite a few power-ups to assist you in the melee. The actual combatisn't as intricate as in other fighting games; however, the ultra-cartoonylayout of the many, many arenas sometimes adds a strategic element not usuallyfound in similar titles.

Super Smash Bros. Melee's strength lays in the mayhem created infour-player fights. The camera does an excellent job of positioning itself so allcombatants are constantly visible. Also, Melee sports some of the bestvisuals seen in a Nintendo product. All the characters are highly detailed, andthe movements of each are smoothly infused with personality. Donkey Kong lumbersand Princess Peach fights with grace.

As the multiplayer mode is the key reason for this game's existence, thesingle-player mode is decidedly weak. The game features an adventure mode that playssomewhat like an old-school, side-scrolling Mario game. Sadly, despite its goodlooks, its gameplay is rather uninspired. This game is clearly at its best whenthere are two or more players with controllers in their hands. --MarkBrooks

    Pros:

    • Fantastic graphics and sound keep the action upbeat
    • Many new characters and other goodies to unlock
    Cons:
    • Single-player experience is comparatively weak
    • Too cute for a few folks
    • Adventure mode is boring

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest of All Nintendo Games
This game excels in every area, and does not require a multicategory review to prove it. The sequel to one of the best video games ever, this is a monumental achievement.
This game shows exactly why everyone loves Nintendo.

Well, it used to be that way.

Sony and Microsoft are celebrating over their triumph over the powerful Sega Dreamcast system, and glad that it'll probably never gain the strength to once again be a major force in video games. Now the two supergiants want Nintendo out of the picture, too. Gamers look more and more for graphics and action rather than new ideas, and since Nintendo does the latter, it won't survive long.

Sad to say this, but Nintendo's on its way out.

Here's a list I made predicting the future of games:

1.) Nintendo will die sometime during or after the next console generation. It will not be taken over by Sony or Microsoft, who will consider its games "kiddie" and "worthless".
2.) These game genres' popularity may change:
    First-person shooter: Increase
    Fighting: Increase
    Racing: Stay the same
    Platformer: Extinct
    Puzzle: Extinct
    RPG/Strategy: Decrease
    Sports: Stay the same
3.) Future consoles will move their focus even more from games to features, such as DVD, Internet, "Home" systems, etc.
4.) Sony and Microsoft use their mighty money powers to create a monopoly for themselves.
    5.) These ESRB games will:
    EC: Extinct
    E: Decrease
    E+10: Decrease
    T: Stay the same
    M: Increase
    AO: Increase
6.) Game systems hit a level of "Maximum realism".
7.) Game mascots (ex: Mario, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, etc.) will no longer exist; all characters will be realistic people.
8.) Second Great Video Game Crash will occur somewhere from 15 to 25 years from now when consumers lose interest.
9.) Sony and Microsoft in their ultimate clash; unsure if Sony or Microsoft wins.
10.) Sony and/or Microsoft easily overpower all third companies with new consoles. This leads to less variety in games and consoles.
11.) After the Second Great Video Game Crash, neither Sony nor Microsoft may be able to save the industry they've destroyed. No third companies will help, as they will have been wiped out long ago. There will be no Nintendo to pick up the industry once again, as it had in the First Great Video Game Crash of 1983 with its NES console. No telling what happens at this point.

For all those of you who play only Nintendo, buy all the Nintendo consoles and games that you can, as they'll disappear forever only less than a decade from now. If I was asked, however, which game to get first, I might recommend this one. It'll be a treasure for the ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Gamecube game
Out of all the Gamecube games I have, the one I can always play and the one I play the most is Super Smash Bros Melee. This is one of those games that is great to get out when friends come over. Once I start playing against somebody else thats good, its hard to stop. Its easy to spend hours playing several rounds trying to discover new ways to defeat your enemies. Overall, if you have a Gamecube and still don't have this game, you really owe it to yourself to pick this up. ... Read more

I love this game. Last summer I played it all the time!!!! This game rocks!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars what the?
did luidi do something wrong like get bad grades or something and drop out of school and ended up being a plummer? well yea i guess he's been grounded for like a billion years from being a star of any game and if he IS a star in one the word "MARIO" is in the title and this game "luigi's mansion" oh yeaaaa he has a mansion and since he's grounded from bad grades people he has to clean the whole house with a vacum

3-0 out of 5 stars Luigi's Mansion... Not Much of an Adventure to Get Into
I've always grown up liking Mario and so when I got this game I was rather excited to see what it was all about. However, when I did get it, I was rather disappointed with what I got.

There's nothing much too special about this game: You will beat this game in a matter of hours. The bosses are terribly easy, and even the puzzles that surround the mansion aren't that challenging.

There are lots of things that annoy me about this game. First of all, Luigi moves so slowly. It's not like other Mario games where you can run extremely quickly or even fly in the air. Instead you just shuffle around on the ground. Boring.

The second thing I didn't like was you don't see a lot of the other characters you're used to seeing. I didn't see Yoshi in there, or Princess Toadstool. Instead you say a wacky Professor that just gives you a vaccume and annoys you with his chatter. Then of course you see the Boos, Mario, Toad, and Bowser but other than those characters that's about it. Quite sad.

Finally the last thing that I really didn't enjoy was the whole brightness of this game- it's too dark. I like to have parts in the game where there are some brightness, but you won't find that with this game. The only good positive about the game were the general graffics, but it's ruined with the darkness.

The music is not what it could have been, you'll get annoyed very quickly with it, and after you play through it the first time, it just gives you an option of repeating the same adventure you went through for some 'bonuses' in the game... but for me, when I went through it once, why would I go through the same mansion and the same exact puzzles again?

Go rent another video game (I'd suggest Zelda). This one isn't worth renting, and especially not buying, unless if you are a huge fan of Mario.

2-0 out of 5 stars how did gamespot give this a 9?
Im sure in the dawn of next gen consoles this was the cream of the crop but nowadays we expect more. Im not talking about graphics, Im talking about gameplay. This game is waay too linear and boring. What really bugged me is the death star attack. Was luke, wedge, and biggs the only rebels fighting against the death star??? The attack on the death star was a huge battle, and so dire taht it the rebels lost theyd be as crewed as thai hooker. So why would only send three fighters to take care of a colossus weapon like the death star? Also, luke isnt such a good main character, he gets annoying after...around the second mission. So why does it get the two? because it works, you shot ti-fighters, and its star wars.

4-0 out of 5 stars a great game buttttttttttt.....................
its just to hard for me im sorry i sound like a woos i know but its just redicolusly hard. It has great graphic though and somewhat fun gameplay. but i dont like it that much.Other than that its a great game for star wars fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars ROGUE LEADER is AMAZING!
FIRST OFF THE GRAPHICS ARE STUNNING AND THE GAMPLAY IS GREAT!It controls like a dream and the war is great.THe battle from the movies are so cool and the way TIE fighters now explode is great pyrotechnics.SOunds are great and just everything is sensational. This game is one of the greatest games ever made!Wingmen commands are also super cool.Other games don't really have wingmen. This adds a slight realism.Playing as the ace-pilot Wedge Antilles is also very cool.My cons are only in the TIEi fighters,They are too sutpid. When I first played battle of ENDOR, I six TIE fighters crashed into me.I survived but that was just crap. Also the wingman don't do much except maybe knock out ten or fifteen TIE fighter before the level ends. They fly awkwardly and fire at enemies too slowly. The other Rebel pilots that are not your wingman don't do anything expcet take up space. They should be just like your wingman and actually do something. Also, again, you fight hundreds of TIE ifhgtrs and other ships alone. You do most of the work and destroy lik hundreeds of enemies. Not too realistic on that matter. The Imperial levels are great.Destroying X-wings and Y-wings and even A-wings is fun to do.THIS GAME IS GREAT! ... As stranded, miniature spaceperson Olimar, you must find the missing 30parts your spaceship needs to get you back home. The parts are scattered acrossa forested area crowded with giant (when compared to our hero's size) animalsand other hazards. Our hero stumbles across a race of part-animal, part-plant,all-bizarre creatures he names Pikmin. Olimar has to learn how to lead thePikmin around the forest as he uses the abilities of the different-coloredPikmin to overcome the many obstacles in his path.

Learning when and how to make the best use of your Pikmins' skills and traits isthe essence of the game. You can control up to 100 Pikmin at a time whilefiguring out which Pikmin are best suited for a particular task. Some are betterfighters, while others can survive in water or handle explosive bomb rocks. However, even the best Pikmin herder will have to sacrifice a few of theplant-headed beasts for the greater good. It's the making of new strategies tominimize losses that makes Pikmin challenging and fun.

For a first-generation GameCube title, the graphics, sound, and music arefantastic and show an awesome amount of detail. Though it's noPokémon, this game should appeal to wide-eyed younger gamers aswell as seasoned vets. The controls are intuitive and feel perfect for thestandard GameCube controller. However, learning to position the camera can be atad frustrating during some of the more tense moments, as it has only a fewmagnification levels and needs constant adjustment.

The biggest obstacle Olimar faces is time. He has only 30 days (each day isabout 15 minutes in real time) in which to find the necessary parts. While thiskeeps the pace of the game up, some may find such limits somewhat frustrating,as it means there will be a lot of repetition and rethinking of strategy. Italso means that diligent gamers may find Pikmin a rather short game.

At the end of your gaming day, Pikmin is one of the best games on theGameCube. --Mark Brooks

1-0 out of 5 stars Childish
This game is stupid and childish If your like Michael Heim Grow up nintendo is for babys and mommas boys get the PS2 or Xbox Those have better games.
P.S dont you notice how 99.9% of all the games for the GCN are rated E and only one good game is rated M get the picture boys grow up.

1-0 out of 5 stars I hated this game
I cant believe how stupid this game was...Its ridiculous. I am so relieved to have only rented it, and at that, I felt stupid and ripped off...
Just not my cup of Java!

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this game, but it is a little hard!
I played Pikmin for the first just a little while ago,It's a story about this space man named Olimar(or something strange like that),and he crash landed on some triped out planet where there are these weird little ant like plants, who will help you find your missing spaceship parts. It's a fun game but it is a little hard and some of the monsters are creepy, but I still like this game, and you only have 30 days to find all your missing parts(30 parts in all). The first 10 parts are easy to find, the next 10 are hard, and the final 10 are veeerrryyy hard to find! The pikmin are funny so its kind of cute to watch them run around and pick up parts and stuff,so it is a good game,if not a little kiddy.PROS:There are a lot of parts that you can find in just one day alone, and the three kinds of pikmin are all very funny.CONS:Olimar says that he will not need all the parts in the game to go back to his home planet but I got 27 parts out of 30 and the ship still wouldn't work right, the camera gets very bad half way into the game, its easy to lose pikmin, the pikmin die WAY to fast in battle, only the blue pikmin have gills, and all of the easy to find parts are crap and Olimar can live without them,(like the cap'n seat,a very easy to find part)but I would still say to try out this game,it's worth around $15.00,so try this game!you may like it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Game that wraps up why Tony Hawk is the Best Skater!
This game has a intresting touch to it. I want to meet Tony Hawk though... Anyway the game has 9 levels. 3 levels are competitions. They are Rio, Skater Island and Tokyo. If you win a gold medal on all of them, you'll get a video on your character. The other levels are the Foundry, Canada, Suburbia, the Airport, Los Angles and the Cruise Ship. There are 9 goals on each levels in which you have to complete to complete the game. You'll also get seceret characters and options that will break the laws of physics of the Earth.

4-0 out of 5 stars SO SO
THIS GAME IS HARD to control ( the characters ) and the music stinks and its a little boring but its cool because you can play as over 100 skaters including wolverine, Darth Maul, Kelly Slater, and a lot more!

5-0 out of 5 stars STOP

5-0 out of 5 stars a great game!
this is a good game overall.my favorite part is that the girls have big boobs and when you pick them their boobs move.get this game just to see the girls that should be in playboy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Same Old Same Old
This is just another mediocre fighting game... fairly mediocre graphics, same old kicks and punches... oo turning into animals? thats new... but poorly done... trust me, if your into arcade style fighting games give Soul Calibur II a spin, or if your just into fighting games period get Super Smash Bro. Melee.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let the FUR fly!Morphing battles!
Lions, tigers and bears ... oh my!This game is a pretty straight forward "Mortal Kombat" style fighting game with a twist! And it's a rather bizarre twist at that ... your fighter can become an animal! And when he/she does morph into their inner beast they have very special powers. And the animals range from bats and tigers to chameleons, elephants, and insects.I always laugh when Alice turns into a big fluffy white rabbit and starts kicking tail like Peter Rabbit with road rage!

It's a well designed game with good graphics. The sounds are fine. And the controls are easy to learn. My only complaint is the combos are longer than Mortal Kombat's typical moves. It's definitely not as complex or breathtaking as Soul Calibur, but if you want simplicity and a twisted sense of humor you're in the right ring! Some characters are better than others in the fights, so it's a challenge to find them or use subpar characters to climb the ranks.

Fun, simple, and sort of twisted! What's not to love? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST ON GAMECUBE
This game is probally the 2nd best jet ski series out. It has beautiful graphics, challenging gameplay, and lots of cool tricks. Racing is very fun and freeride is where it's at. I know freeride? Yes, I love games with freeride. It gives you a chance to explore and be free. That is why i love freeride.
The games have been coming since Wave Races first appearance on the original game boy, then to nintendo 64, and now with the gamecube. I love this game, but the is a better jet ski series out.
It is called SPLASHDOWN. It is for the PS2. SPLASHDOWN RIDES GONE WILD IS THE BEST JET SKI GAME TO DATE.
Buy wave race and if you have a PS2 get Splashdown and SPLASHDOWN RIDES GONE WILD. If you are awed by wave race you haed will explode with splashdown.
Still Wave Race Blue Storm is a must have if or if not Gamecube is your only system.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!
this game is AWESOME!!!! i put it in my living room where i have the big screen...and my mom got sick just from looking at the AWESOME graphics! the way the water splashes up on the screen in really cool..I LOVE THIS GAME!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good
This is a game that you just gotta buy! Personally, I hate racing games, but I could go for hours on this game. The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is rockin', and the players are cool. I have a sister and she, my dad and I go head to head all the time. It's a great way to bond, and now my dad isn't as opposed to gamecube. It's so fun, and a person with a wave runner will really enjoy this game. It's sooo realistic! Keep up the good work, Nintendo! ... Read more
