    Editorial Review

Peep-peep! Here comes Percy the little steam engine from the ever-popular Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends book series and television's Shining Time Station (based on The Railway Series by Reverend W. Awdry). With its rounded corners and larger features, this chunky-styled Percy is designed for little hands. Made of lightweight plastic and sporting rubber-trimmed tires, Percy, the youngest and most eager engine in the station, heads off down the tracks with his traditional three-dimensional smiling face. A rear coupling prong allows Percy to pull freight and passenger cars of his same chunky style. The 4.5-inch-by-2.5-inch engine has an axle width of 1.75 inches and fits plastic tracks designed for the My First Thomas train series. This toy does not fit the standard 1.5-inch wooden tracks. --Kathryn Gustafson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No visible scratches had it for 2 years
Most of my trains are pretty old except for the new ones but Percy really hasn't had any scratches and i've had him for nine years. His magnet is still there and it's in working order. Percy is one of everyone's favorite engines and this one is a great buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves it!!!
My son is a big fan of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. His favorite is Percy. He takes his Percy trains with him wherever he goes (to bed, in the car, around the house, etc.).We even bought an extra for him just in case he loses one of them.If your children love Thomas (and what toddler doesn't?), I do have a piece of advice--get duplicates of the trains. You never know if one will get lost, or forgotten!I got doubles of most of the trains, Percy included, and it can be a real lifesaver when one gets lost or left behind!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This toy is great. My whole family has fun every evening playing with this train. The just can't get enough of it!

Also, it's able to withstand lots of rough playing.

This is a must! ... Read more

From the popular Thomas the Tank Engine book series and television's Shining Time Station, based on the Railway Seriesby Rev. W. Awdry, comes Henry, the proud green engine. Made of hardwood, withshiny green paint, a three-dimensional face, and a magnetically coupled coal car,Henry is ready for hard work. Being one of the largest steam engines at ShiningTime Station, eight-wheeled Henry, also known as No. 3, can easily pull severalfreight cars along with his 2-inch coalcar. Wheel axles measure 1 inch across and fit standard Brio wooden traintracks, and similar 1- to 1.5-inch grooved train tracks. If your child enjoys acting out the Thomas video series, George is a villain in the stories. He is no friend to railway engines whatsoever. He thinks that rails should be replaced with roads, and that's just what he spends most of his time doing. As he moves along, he features a spinning flywheel and roller drum. Perfect for any Thomas roadway fanatic.

This "Rickety" troublesome truck is great. He bounces up and down as the trains pull him along. He has a wonderful smiling face as he is truely happy causing problems for our little engines. He is a great addition for Thomas fans and works with the generic tracks as well. The branch line would not be the same without this car. He has action unlike alot of the others.

    Editorial Review

A new, very different cast of friends has just arrived on the island of Sodor. Salty is a distinctive engine who loves the seashore, has a never-ending supply of stories, and can magically transform the normally troublesome trucks into happy, efficient workers. Harvey is an odd-looking fellow who quickly proves himself an indispensable addition to the railway, and Cyril the Fogman demonstrates that technology can never completely replace competent workers. Harold and Percy discover the true value of friendship and even Cranky benefits from a temporarily rosy perspective on the world. Finally, Thomas gets some help from an unexpected source--a dirty, grimy wreck that is somehow connected to Sir Topham Hat's past. Join Thomas and his friends as they discover that, while trains come in very different sizes and shapes, they share certain fundamental similarities that provide the basis of friendship. 5-0 out of 5 stars great movie
Salty's Secret:In this episode,a diesel named Salty, who loves the sea, get's a job at the quarry.but Salty was glad when he was assined a job at the docks. In Harvey to the rescue,Harvey is said to not be useful;even by Edward!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Thomas video!!!!!!!!!!
Salty's Secret was another good one. It introduced Salty, the dockyard diesel, and Harvey, the crain engine. When Harvey makes his first appearance in Harvey to the rescue, his voice sounds normal. But when he makes his second appearance in No Sleep For Cranky, he sounds very fancy-talking. This video also introduces Elizabeth, the vintage Quarry truck. Here are the stories:

    Salty's Secret 4.5/5:
Salty comes to work at the Island of Sodor, but instead of working by the docks like he wanted, he will be working at the Quarry instead. Although sad, Salty realizes that there is work to be done and gets to work immediately. The other engines are surprised at how well Salty handles the freight cars and they just can't seem to figure out his secret.

    Harvey To The Rescue 4/5:
Another new engine arrives at the Island of Sodor and his name is Harvey, the crain engine. The other engines find him very different looking at start talking about him. This makes Harvey sad and he doesn't want to work on the Island of Sodor anymore. But soon enough, Harvey will get his chance to prove to the other engines that, although he may look different, he is still just as useful.

    No Sleep For Cranky 4.5/5:
Cranky never gets to sleep at all, he has to work all the time. This makes him very cranky, hints the name. One day Cranky gets mad with Bill & Ben and causes an accident. He is then stuck with Bill, Ben, and Salty all night long.

    The Fogman 5/5:
Cyrrel the fogman has a very important job to do on the Island of Sodor, he sets explosive caps on the tracks to warn the engines of heavy fog. One day, Sir Topham Hatt shows the engines a new invention, the fog horn. This will be replacing Cyrrel, leaving him jobless. But Sir Topham Hatt soon realizes that Cyrrel is clearly more reliable than the fog horn.

A Bad Day For Harold 5/5:
Percy loves taking the mail train, it is the most important job Sir Topham Hatt has given him. But Harold must take the mail instead of Percy one day due to a broken signal. Harold is too busy teasing Percy than paying atention to what he is doing and he ends up crashing.

Elizabeth The Vintage Quarry Truck 4.5/5:
Thomas must deliver a load to the docks by sunset. Everything is going so well until he breaks his coupling rods. They end up at an old abandoned shed where his driver and fireman go inside, hoping there's a phone in there. But they find something else instead which Thomas thinks is a ghost.

James The Really Splendid Engine(Music Video) 6/5:
A great music video about James. It would've been great on the Best of James video.

And there's all the stories from Salty's Secret. I'd recommend this video, it's a good one. :)

3-0 out of 5 stars New engines, no new showings
I liked this movie much better than my last one but I hated that they would make more charecters when they haven't even shown Bertram and Thumper from Spills Chills and other Thomas Thirlls. What about Edward? He has no real big parts in this movie. Salty was a neat engine. I bought 2 newer tapes and not a single one had Harvey a different crane engine. I get alot of vidios but the song "James The Really Splended Engine" is very catchy. I was startled at Harvey's voice in "No Sleep For Cranky". I like the way in another movie Salty is almost like a wise gruff salor. The other story's The Fogman, A Bad Day For Harold, and Elizabeth The Vintage Quary Truck were okay. I gave the movie a three because I thought it was good but I have seen better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids AND parents!
My 4-year-old son got both the Thomas CDs for his birthday and we've now listened to them for 3 months non-stop.I'm picky about music - if it isn't well done, I don't like it.The Thomas songs are REALLY well done. The music and lyrics are both sophisticated enough for adults to hear repeatedly, and fun enough for kids to not get tired of.Even my 2-year-old now knows all the songs!Sure, after 3 months I'm ready to listen to something else, but I'd be tired of Beethoven by this time too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but a little annoying
This cd is okay - I wish there were more actual train sounds since my three-year-old really likes to comment on the train sounds. Also, some of the children's voices are really over-acting and that can certainly be annoying, but overall, this is a nice cd.It's upbeat but after awhile, the songs sound the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do CD's ever wear out?
I purchased this CD for my 2 1/2 yr old who is obsessed w/ Thomas. This CD is now his new obsession. His joy is just about absolute while it plays. He now requires it play while he goes to bed at night.(Make sure you have a repeat button on your CD player, you'll need it!)We have the Thomas Sing Along video, so my son knew most of the songs already, which helped him identify it with Thomas.I don't know how many times I am prepared to listen to this, I find the children's voices sometimes annoying, but I will live with it for the total glee my son finds while listening. ... Wearing a perpetually quizzical, happy expression, yellow locomotive Ben is not too surprised by anything that happens on the Thomas Wooden Railway System. He's just one of the many train-car characters popularized in the Thomas the Tank Engine book, television, and video series. He's also part of this creative system of sturdy toy train characters, wooden tracks, and scenery available from Learning Curve. Sir Topham Hatt and his equally robust consort are perky and colorful.Sir Topham Hatt wearshis trademark topper, gray flannels, and a black tailcoat with a rather smart yellow waistcoat; his wifesports a green skirt and a sensible sky blue blouse with lace collar.Their wooden heads sit on top of plasticbodies with movable arms. The legs also move (both together) so that either figure can be seated.Anyrebellious type over the age of 4 is going to find the large Phillips screw in the back of each figure too hardto resist, so early dismemberment is a distinct possibility. But these figures are a lot more lifelike than thetwo-dimensional wooden cutouts that come with many Thomas sets. The box claims they are 3 incheshigh, but they actually measure just under 2.5 inches. --Richard Farr ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Hatts
The Sir Topham and Lady Hatt figures are quite basic, with the face being a painted wooden sphere. The arms are movable, but they're pretty stiff.

Kids probably won't mind the lack of detail, especially since the characters in the Thomas videos aren't exactly crafted with fine details, either.

A nice addition for kids who love the whole Thomas the Tank Engine series of books, trains, and videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Thomas books - particulary for young kids
My older son is a huge Thomas fan, and had me read him "Thomas the Tank Engine's Big Blue Treasury" every night for weeks when I bought it. My second son (2 years old) also now adores this book and never tires of the story. Unlike some of the "classic" stories, these are very pleasant and great for small children, as well as for early readers. The books also have bigger and brighter illustrations than many Thomas books, and with 3 stories in one book you get good value. If you have kids between 18 months and 7 or 8 years old, this book is a winner (all of this applies equally to the Big Yellow Treasury - the two favorites out of the 30 plus Thomas books the boys have).

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't always rely on reviews!
My 20 month old son makes us read this book every night before bedtime. He loves the stories, bland though they may be....I think they're charming, simple stories without being babyish.I have no problem with the nastiness that is present in other Thomas books missing from these stories. My son doesn't need to be exposed to that at his age.The colorful illustrations match well to the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read

This is a beautiful Lego train. It was a gift to our 5 year old son and though I had to take some time helping him build it, he loved it and stayed excited the entire time. Building it made him feel as though he'd accomplished something great. Like all the Lego products, it comes with a step by step picture book that makes it easy for anyone to build.Once it's done, it's a nice addition to the Harry Potty Lego series and any train-lover's collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to your train set and Bob the Builder set
My little boy just loves Muck and Scoop so when I saw these sets, I just had to get them for his train set.He really loves putting Bob in the back of Muck's bed and pushing him around the train track. He also attaches Muck to one of his battery-operated locomotives and Muck gets a "ride" all around the track.I'm glad that they're making these pieces for the wooden train series - it's just a lot of fun constructing the towns and having these pieces to go along with them. What an imagination builder! All the train pieces are pretty pricey but worth it since they're made by Brio.We have a bunch of Brio's products and are very pleased with all of them and this set is no different.Sure hope Bob doesn't get dizzy going around and around, and around....

5-0 out of 5 stars Compatible with Brio or Thomas Wooden Railways
Do ignore the negative reviews related to the size of the toy -- this is compatible with the wooden railway system, and is sized appropriately.Of the series, Muck is the least durable, since his front scoop comes off with very little tugging, snaps back on easily as well, but one more small part to lose.

very cute, especially with the scenery from the race set and set up with some railway pieces as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be Fore-warned! Piece of Junk
When I opened the package to give to my grandson, I was suprised and VERY disappointed. For the money I spent, I expected a LOT more.

This thing looks like a $0.50 toy you would get from a gum-ball machine. It's a 2-inch man and a three-inch long plastic truck.I had to rush out Christmas morning to get something else.If I had given him this along with a book I purchased, he would have been extremely dissapointed and I would have been extremely embarrassed.

DON'T buy this unless you are very familiar with the Bob-the-Builder rip-offs and still want to throw away $15.00. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic set for your Brio train!
I've just read through some of the other reviews and I think that both Amazon.com and the reviewers are both at fault for this confusion over this toy. This is NOT, I repeat, NOT just a stand alone toy.It is made by Brio, the train folks in Sweden, and is meant mostly to be used on the Brio train/road tracks. They're bigger than a matchbox car, and are about the same size as other wooden train pieces like Thomas the Train and other Brio train products (for train buffs, they're about the size of an HO scale train).I've also just read Amazon's product detail and it says NOTHING about the size, nor the intent for which it is produced.(...)P>However, this set is wonderful, and captivates my son for hours. He puts Bob in Scoop's shovel, attaches him to a battery-operated locomotive, and around the train track they go.He even takes Scoop to bed with him!If you want even more fun, buy the Bob the Builder starter set - you get Muck, Bob, and the roadway to start Bob's town. It's just a darling idea and a neat addition to the Brio trains that you may already have.Don't be afraid to buy this set - it's just so very cute, but also, don't expect to get a very large toy. They're expensive because they're from Brio, not some piece of junk made in China.Brio's quality is unsurpassed and they've earned the right, in my opinion.Great toy!

1-0 out of 5 stars Scoop and Bob
I found the advertising misleading.I expected the Scoop and Bob to be larger than they were.I think this toy is probably good for collecting, but not for a 3 year old.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the Money!
My Nephews are the Biggest Bob the Builder fans!!But this toy is the SMALLEST toy and definitely not worth the money!! If you want something to decorate the topy of a birthday cake with this MIGHT work although still a little small.Bob is only an inch high at the most. I wish I had listened to the other reviewer below who asked "Why does this cost so much for so little?" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great album!!
We are Jewish, but I still love this album. There is no mention of Jesus or Christianity, it's just good clean fun.The only thing that made me slightly uncomfortable was a theme in one song of "if you believe G*d will protect you"Great music, funny for adults & kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Plain Fun!
If you or your children are VeggieTales fans you'll enjoy this collection of some of the VeggieTales' classic songs.

It includes the VeggieTales theme song as well as such memorable Silly Songs as "I Love My Lips", "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", "The Song of the Cebu", and "The Dance of the Cucumber."

In addition, it features songs from "Josh and the Big Wall," "Larry-Boy", and "Rack, Shack and Benny" such as the beautiful Broadway-like "Think of Me" lullaby.

This is a great CD for listening to in the van on car trips. Not only will your children be singing along, but you'll find yourself singing and laughing as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Little Songs
My niece is a huge fan of the Veggietales. I have to admit that I like them too. Veggietales are educational and fun. Bob the tomato and Larry the Cucumber have such a way of teaching kids the Bible stories. The songs are too cute. One of my favorite songs is The song of Cebu. Veggietales are something that the whole family can enjoy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Future Scientist's Mom
I was so excited to purchase this only to be totally disappointed with the quality. The pieces would not stay together. The unit toppled over when we tried to set it outside to gather rain.Definitely bumbed us out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
When I was using this at the begining I thought it was pretty good. When I looked inside the box there were no instructions!I don't think you should waste your'e money on this piece of junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not sure how people are using this !!
Quality of the product is really really bad. Not sure how people are using it repeatedly. Attachments keep falling off and if there is high wind, it just topples over or changes directions.

Maybe it is only good to understand what each attachment is used for or how that measurement instrument might look in "real" life.

Otherwise a total waste of money !! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful educational book for a variety of ages!
I wasn't familiar with the Magic School Bus series until I visited my family this past weekend--my 3-year old niece absolutely loved this book!Unconventional teacher Mrs. Frizzle takes her students on an archeological dig, but she then decides to give them a real look at dinosaurs by loading them onto her magic school bus and traveling back in time. The main body of the story is only about 5 lines per page, making the book appropriate for reading to younger children, but there is also a wealth of additional information included in surrounding insets, making the book ideal for an older beginning reader as well (and fun for adults, too!).The pictures are extremely detailed and colorful, and the illustrated children portray a variety of ethnic appearances.Given my niece's reaction, I'd highly recommend this book for aged 2-3 and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Magic School Bus Goes back to the time of the Dinosaurs
Head back in time with Ms. Frizzle and her class on a Dinosaur adventure. The book begins with the students in the classroom mentioning it is Visitors Day. Ms. Frizzle's class made the room into Dinosaur Land, displaying the book reports by each student on a table with the toy dinosaurs on another table.

On each page there are a few lines of text to follow the story of The Magic School Bus: In the Time of the Dinosaurs plus the inside pages of each report showing facts and interesting tidbits on each Dinosaur. There are two distinctions for the captions above each student. If there are a few bubbles leading to the student this is a thought they are having that adds to the story. The squared captions located at each person, throughout the book is part of their dialogue. In reading the story to a child you can differentiate between these quite easily.

Before any visitors show up Ms. Frizzle announces to her class that they were invited to a dinosaur dig. Some of the kids wondered what would happen to visitor's day if they just left but grabbed the toy dinosaurs and video camera on the way to the bus. " When you have the wackiest teacher in school, you need all the luck you can get!" Displayed on the pages are lists about fossils that were done by the students as they ride along the bus to the site.

The bus drove through to the present time where they ended up back at the site where the paleontologists were worried about them. Ms. Frizzle gave them some advice on where to find fossils and they headed back to their classroom. Once inside the classroom they made a chart of the trip and soon the visitor's arrived.

Each of the students had their family members look around the classroom admiring Ms. Frizzle. All the science projects were displayed and the computer was running a tape of Dinosaurs. The kids all agreed that the teacher was an interesting person that liked to explore science.

The very last page shows Ms. Frizzle standing on a ladder at a Dinosaur museum brushing the teeth on the T. Rex.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Adventure Millions of Years in the Making!
As if Ms. Frizzle's field trips weren't time-consuming enough, now she's decided to take her class back to when dinosaurs roamed the Earth!Has the Friz gone mad?Who knows what kind of animals stalked the very land we stand on millions of years ago? This joyful journey to the Jurassic could end up a perilous predicament in the past!

Written in 1994, "The Magic School Bus: In the Time of the Dinosaurs" is yet another wonderful collaboration between Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It's Visitor's Day in Ms. Frizzle's class.Parents, relatives and friends are coming to see the students' work in all things dinosaurs. But not before the Friz makes a special announcement.

"Our class has been invited to a dinosaur dig," she informs her students."We'll be leaving right away."

And, just like all the other field trips Ms. Frizzle has taken, this one ends up being bigger than originally planned. So big, in fact, it can only be described in prehistoric terms!

The students learn all about fossils (anything left from ancient animals or plants), as well as the scientists who study them (paleontologists). They also get to see how these scientists go about their work, using chisels and shovels and burlap and plaster. Then the real adventure begins when the Friz suggests to the class that they all go looking for some Maiasaura nests. And the only way to do that, of course, is to blast into the past!

Students will recognize some of the more well-known dinosaurs featured in this tale - Brontosaurus, Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex.But they will also be introduced to lesser-known plants and animals from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods - Cycads, Ferns, Elasmosaurus, and Lambeosaurus. Each different geological period represents a variety of creatures, habitats and temperatures.

Were dinosaurs part of a herd (meaning, did they live in packs?), or were they solitary creatures? Were some dinosaurs caring parents, or did they leave their young to fend for themselves? What brought about the end of a species that existed for so many millions of years? But most importantly, will Ms. Frizzle's class ever return to the present day?

As with every book in the "Magic School Bus" series, Cole and Degen wrap up their latest narrative with two things: 1) "From the Author's Desk and the Artist's Drawing Board" helps distinguish fact from fiction in the story; and 2) another clue as to the next riveting field trip the Friz has planned for her class. To weather that storm, the students had better be packing umbrellas and windbreakers!Things could get a little foggy!

Six excellently executed books into this series, and Cole and Degen haven't missed a beat. The writing is superb, the story engaging, and the artwork as clever and informative as ever.Parents and children alike will delight in a story that offers all the thrills of an amusement park ride, yet all the comforts of a favorite reading chair. So hop aboard the magic school bus!

As Ms. Frizzle herself would say, "Goodness gracious, we've reached the Late Cretaceous!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a ten-year-olds point of veiw!!!!!!!
in the reveiws, i saw alot of age ranges, from 2 1/2 to 12!!!!!! This toy is great if you like dinosaurs and my friend is 11 and has this toy too. i like playing with it alot (it is fun for the dinosaurs to attack my Geotrax train set!....witch is also a great toy you can find on amazon) these dinosaurs are great (5 thumbs up to my favorite dinosaur the brachosaurus, who is also the biggest in the set i should add.....) But at first when i was getting this toy i was looking forward to the playmat, but now i dont even play with that or the rocks, volcanos or tree's, dinosaurs are the best part. and i realized that i actually put this toy back! i have a whole lot of toys and most of them are still out this very moment!!!!!!!! and i really like reading there names at the bottom of each dinosaur!!!!!!! Overall, this toy is a big hit (and for you moms out there, my mom tells me that this toy keeps me busy and quiet so she can relax!!!!!) and i totally reccomened it! i hope you enjoyed seeing a childs point of veiw on this toy!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hours of fun
I bought this for my three year old son.He loves it.It comes with a plastic play mat and over 10 dinosaurs, plus trees, rocks and two volcanoes. He loves it and it entertains him for hours. But the best part for me is the plastic storage tub.Everything fits easily back in, and it takes up very little space (around the size of a large shoe box).

5-0 out of 5 stars DINOmite!
If you have a child who loves dinosaurs then this is the toy for him/her! It's perfect size for (not to small where the pieces will get lost and not too big to store) and it comes with it's own storage container (I wish every toy came with it's own storage container). You child will spend hours of creative play with this great toy! I highly recommend it! And you can't beat the price! My 5 yr. old son set this up in his bedroom and he plays for hours up there. He LOVES it! I think I might buy him another set just to add more to his collection. ... Read more
