    Black Sable Pliko Strollr
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Baby Product

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

This Pliko Matic stroller from Peg Pérego is a goodchoice for parents who want the portability of a lightweight strollerwith some of the convenience and design features of a midsize stroller.Mounted on an aluminum frame and four sets of sturdy plastic wheels, the stroller's seat is nicely cushioned--with thick padding on andaround the seat itself, and an additional thin layer of padding aroundthe legs and across the front safety bar. The seat can be adjusted tothree different recline angles, but it requires two hands to make theadjustment to a lower angle. The stroller is also equipped with afive-point harness, and the retractable canopy over the seat can beflipped all the way forward to act as an emergency rain or wind guardif you get caught outside in poor weather. Sporting sleekblack-and-gray styling, the stroller can be easily collapsed forstorage or transport, and it is surprisingly lightweight for a midsizestroller. --Chris Burns ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype!
I had a horrible, very cheap stroller for my first child so when we found out we were having another, I was adamant about getting "the best" stroller I could get.I had heard Peg Perego was just that. After owning the Plikomatic for a little over a year I have to say there is definitely room for improvement. The stroller has a five-point harness which I am very grateful for because my son is an escape artist. However, the harness attaches to the stroller at the top with a little loop and plastic tab. This is absolutely ludicrous! My 14-month old only has to squirm a little to get it free. The storage underneath is useless and inaccessible. The metal frame takes up all the space and I still haven't found the secret to slipping my bag in and out.The cup holder is a lie.It only holds those skinny bottles of water. If you get a drink from a vending machine or even a standard soft drink cup you end up holding it because it won't fit.Besides, mine fell off the second time I tried to use it and won't stay on anymore. This stroller is very difficult to maneuver with one hand, but I'm mastering that.I do kick the wheels frequently while walking quickly, even with the handles extended, and I'm only 5'6".It is a very smooth riding stroller, but when I try to push it up and down narrow aisles I always end up stuck.Even with the front wheels locked they seem to get caught. My son loves this stroller, however. It snuggles around him like a little cocoon and he's very comfortable. The canopy folds all the way down which is great for keeping the sun or rain out.I absolutely love that.I also love all the adjustments you can make to the baby's positioning. It has come in handy as my son has grown. We ordered our stroller with the snack tray, which is the only way to go.I really wish there was a parent tray, though. You definitely cannot close the stroller with one hand, but once you break it in it isn't hard to do at all.I love how lightweight it is and it only takes up a little space in my car and I have a Honda CRV.I also have a Chicco stroller but I never use it since it doesn't have nearly as many features as the Peg Perego and weighs almost as much.Plan on taking some time to put it together. The directions were not easy to follow. All in all it is a nice stroller.I always get comments on its appearance, but it feels a little cheaply made for the price we paid.Do your research!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars very fashionable
I bought this stroller for my 3rd child. I like that the seat reclines so far back, but when the baby falls asleep it is difficult to recline smoothly. I find that one side drops down and the other has to be pushed down. This is the same in reverse. One side comes up before the other. It is super easy to get the baby in and out of this stroller. This stroller is very light weight and folds up pretty small. I hate the cup holder and wish I'd never bothered to attach it. It doesn't hold anything except for my keys which I clip onto the holder. I had to buy hooks to hang packages from the handles b/c it is very difficult to access the basket underneath. This is a very attractive stroller that is convenient if you need a small lightweight stroller.

2-0 out of 5 stars there arebetter
We found this stroller very comfy for our son- he likes it. The fabric has ripped away from the canopy, the straps come out almost everytime we take him out, it's very wide in stores, and is almost impossible to manuever with one hand.We bought this for my fourth child the others had a Graco/Evenflo.I guess we didn't know how good we had it with graco/evenflo! I learned quickly that a higher price tag does not mean it's better! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very versatile
We purchased this prior to my son's birth 6 month's ago.Great purchase. For the first couple of months we used this as his primary sleep place, and changing station.Since it wasn't an easy task to climb the stairs, as any new mom knows, every time my son needed to be changed the changing station was the best feature and the parent organizer held my diapers, kleenex's, wipes, etc...We've traveled with this pack-n-play a few times too, and it is easy to pack up and go.Right now, my parents use this as my son's primary sleeping place. They don't have a crib, which is fine since this works perfectly and he sleeps great. Also, since they don't have a changing table either...it works great for them to diaper my son and keep all their supplies nearby. When he comes back home, we just pack it up and you'd never know he was there. It is very versatile, and I recommend the Graco pack-n-play with all these features.A friend bought a cheap-o brand with no other features than to be used as a bassinet, and she's already stowed it away in the closet awaiting their next vacation.Like I said, ours is used all the time.Great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love it
My husband and I have had this pack n play for 1.5 yrs now. We love it. This was our first child so we really didn't know what to buy.We used it all the time when our daughter was born. Now that she is two we still use it when we go on trips. It's a must have for new parents!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for everything but sleeping
We had planned to use this as our son's primary sleep spot for the first few months of his life. After the first 2 weeks we moved him to his crib because our backs were tired from leaning over the changing table. We're not particulary tall or anything but were definitely uncomfortable. However, I did like having the bassinet.

But once my son outgrew the bassinet, there was no way I would let him sleep in this thing. The mattress is so thin & hard as a rock. From being bent in thirds to use in the bassinet, it has a permanent crease in it. Also, you have to lean way over to lay the baby down (& not wake him up doing it). I just found this to be more trouble than its worth. I stopped using it altogether until my son was old enough to stand in it. Now we use it as a play yard & it's great. He has plenty of room for toys & to cruise around it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great bouncer
I love this bouncy chair. Our son had a great time playing in this seat. The sounds, lights and hanging toys kept him easily entertained. Very easy to wash! I would recommend this bouncer to consumers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a baby who loves to kick!
My brother got this for us as shower gift.It has been indispensible! My daughter figured out pretty quickly how to make the music play, and has been mesmerized by it ever since! Now that she is almost three months old, she is starting to kick the toys that hang down, too. It's a really nice way to put her down while I cook or clean, but not have to put her directly on the floor (we have ceramic tile in our kitchen). It's small enough, too, to take places so that she has something to do at grandma's, ect.Between this and the Musical Garden Activity Mat, she is a happy, active baby!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOUNCER EVER!
I can't say enough about this bouncer.I have a 6 month old son that is still enjoying this seat.He can get it bouncing so good and just loves to be in it.It cradles him just right and I never worry about him falling out or off.He has been in it all 6 months and I don't know what I would do without it. The bar that you can take off is great for when he wants to play or we take it off for when he wants to bounce. One thing is that if he gets bouncing with the toy bar on, it does kinda get him in the face, but he just lets me know and we take it off.I recomend this bouncer for all new moms needing somewhere to sit their child and feel safe about leaving the room for a moment! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great Mobile But it SQUEAKS!!!
This is a great mobile for your child, my son has loved it since day 1 and still loves it at 8 months old.But I have returned 2 ofthem because the motor squeaks and even my sister-in-law in South Africa has it and hers squeaks too!So make sure you try it out first, makes a terrible sound!Would highly recommend but make sure youkeep the receipt!

5-0 out of 5 stars YEY!
I too bought the "nursery themed" mobile for $40, and I wouldnt have minded the price if it were half interesting or if it worked!

My three month old has had this for about a week and LOVES it. Theres a frog, a monkey, and a bird, (I've been seeing him concentrating on the monkey though). The colors are bright and vibrant (a big WOW in the nursery) but it works! IT will play for a good 10-15 minutes, so obviously its not a wind-up. It can play a variety of music (not just Brahms Lulabye!) and it really is entertaining/soothing.

There really isn't much to say about it other than its wonderful! Now why cant they make mothers happy, a matching mobile that works just like this one!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this mobile!
I registered for this mobile after reading reviews & have never regretted it.My daughter absolutely loves it still - sometimes when she was really fussy, I would turn it on & by the time it was through with a cycle, she would be asleep (a lifesaver early on!).She still gets excited when she sees them just being above her (the animals on it are cute & colorful). ... In this corner... it's the Diaper Champ. Standing a bit tallerthan the competition, this wondrous contraption actually uses regulargarbage bags, making it super economical (no refills, hooray!). It alsoholds a few more diapers than other pails we've tried. To use it,simply drop a diaper in and flip the handle. To empty it, just unlockit and remove the bag. But the true test of a diaper pail is its smellcontrol, right? Overall, most moms thought that the Champ deserved itstitle, and only a few detected an occasional escaped odor or two. Itis a bit difficult to open (hint: take it slow), but for thoseof you with a curious and experimental toddler in your house, this maybe okay. --Melissa Wilson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars i absolutely love it!
you couldn't ask for a better diaper pail. one reason is, that you don't have to use certain bags inside the pail...can use a plain trash bag and second is that once you turn the handle over, you don't smell the dirty diapers. great product!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great alternative
No one can deny that the Diaper Genie is the best at keeping odor out of the nursery.Wrapping each diaper induvidually in plastic to contain the smell is a brilliant idea. The downside is that the refills are costly. It always just seemed like such a waste of money to me.Lets face it, diapers are really, really expensive. It seems outrageous to have to pay even more to throw them away.

I definitely prefer the Diaper Champ. For the first few months, I just tossed the dirty diapers in.Now that my daughter is on solid foods, it's true that her diapers are stinkier.Well, I just keep my leftover grocery bags in the changing table drawer and bag the diapers before tossing them in.It's the same concept as the Diaper Genie, only get this, it's FREE.And in my experience, it works just as well.

It's also easier to empty this way. I always hated emptying the Genie. You have to pull out a mile of dirty diapers, or as I called it "the poo sausage."With the Champ, you just lift the garbage bag out and take it outside.

Don't be a sucker and pay tons of extra money just to throw away your already expensive diapers.I love my Diaper Champ!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT
We didn't want to spend a fortune on a diaper pail and refills, so we opted for the Diaper Champ. We absolutely love it. We have used it for three months now and have had no problems with smells of any kind. Best of all, you can use any kind of bag, including reused plastic grocery bags! ... Read more

A good baby mirror can make car rides fun for baby and reassuring for Mom or Dad since everyone gets to see each other while traveling. This simple soft mirror is flexible and designed to be safer in the event of an emergency. While the black and white pattern that surrounds the actual reflecting surface is perhaps not as festive as the seemingly inevitable animal prints that cover so many baby products, that chromatic contrast is likely to be more interesting and occupying to very young children. And don’t black and white match your back seat a little better than bunnies anyway? This mirror can easily attach to either a back seat or a back headrest and can be cleaned with a cloth. --John Moe ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed
Love the idea, dislike the prodcut.I have loved this mirror and have used it since my baby was born 4-1/2 months ago.Recently, when I got in my car I realized the mirror had fallen down...right where my baby would have been if she had been in the car when it had fallen. When I tried to reattach it, I realized the strap had torn.It appears the strap had started to disinigrate in the sun because when I touched the strap another piece of it fell off in my hand.I don't think the mirror would have hurt my baby if it had fallen while she was in the car, but it might have, and it certainly would have scared her.I also hate to think that I could have gotten into an accident if she startled me by suddenly screaming after the mirror fell on her.I think this product should have been tested better before being put on the market!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I have 2 of these mirrors, one in the plaid pattern and one in the brown leather/suede.How 2 of the exact same mirrors can be so different is beyond me.While the leather one is great (so far), the plaid one has fogged up and cannot be wiped clean, making it almost impossible to see my daughter. The sticky tab that can be used when not mounting it on a headrest held for about 10 minutes and then continually fell forward. When I finally moved it to a headrest, I was tightening the strap and it snapped right in 2 making the entire mirror impossible to use at all! It's a needed accessory but this one disappointed me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for MiniVan- Once I Rigged It
At first, I really hated this mirror because no matter what I did, I could not adjust it to the right place.I couldn't see my baby's upper half (only his feet if I was lucky).

Then I wedged a bib between the mirror's back and the headrest.
Ta-da!!!Could completely see my entire baby! The bib not only propped the mirror into the right position, but made the mirror fit more snugly and therefore, less likely to become loose.

NOTE: I don't know if you're "supposed" to rig it.My logic is that if you're allowed to prop a carseat with a rolled-up towel, then why not a mirror with a rolled up bib? ... Read more

Who would have thought a simple crescent-shaped pillow could provide such indispensable aid to mom and baby? The Boppy provides a comfortably soft place for infants to lie while nursing or taking a bottle as well as a nice place to be propped up and see the world (meanwhile Mom’s arms get a much-needed break). As baby grows, it’s the perfect support ring to lend assistance in those awkward and top-heavy efforts to sit up. This Boppy Luxe features white clouds on a soft sky-blue background. 3-0 out of 5 stars Its soft, its cute, its a nice idea but you don't need it
    PROS:
This boppy is the softest one of all of the styles and the cutest one. It fits great around a nursing mom (if you're of average size) and does what its supposed to do - boost baby up so your arm doesn't get tired when you're holding baby up to breastfeed. A boppy is nice for first time moms who are not very confident about nursing to have baby in the right position. It cleans well without pilling in the washing machine and holds its shape. Its a good place to lay a baby who hasn't yet learned to sit up.

    CONS:
When my lactation specialist came to our house after we came home from the hospital, she pulled it out from my lap and put a pillow under baby instead. She said a pillow would do a better job because I could squeeze and push it into place. She was right! Once you get used to nursing and know how to hold the baby comfortably, the boppy kind of gets in the way, and I didn't feel like dragging the big boppy all around to breastfeed. My husband never used it, he wanted to hold baby close to him if he ever gave her a bottle.

5-0 out of 5 stars This item is a must have for bottle or breast feeding
I love this pillow and recommend it for either bottle or breast feeding. It has really saved my back!!! It also helps my husband feel more comfortable that he is holding the baby in the rightposition when feeding. It is also a great way to prop up our son when he wants to look around and helps with his GERD after feedings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!

    Baby Product

    Editorial Review

This thoughtfully designed Sounds 'n' Lights Monitor provides two distinct advantages over the traditional single-receiver monitor: it comes with two receivers so parents and caretakers can listen in on baby from more than one location in the house at the same time, and the variable light displays on both receivers make it possible for you to monitor the noise coming from baby's room visually, without actually hearing it. Along with a power-indicator light, the monitor is equipped with two separate channels and both receivers can be powered by the included AC adaptors, or 9-volt batteries when you want to move the receivers away from an electrical outlet. The Sounds 'n' Lights Monitor comes with a one-year limited warranty and three AC adaptors, but you will have to purchase the two 9-volt batteries separately if you plan on using the receivers away from an outlet. --Chris Burns ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Monitor for Price
I love this monitor. The dual receivers are great for a multiple level home.I have never had problems with the noise except in outlets that make everything hum (sometimes the problem is within the electrical of your home, not the monitor itself.)In response to the poor reviews, I think the product must have been defective and it is a shame she couldn't take it back.We have left ours on 24/7 since my 20 month old was born and never had a problem.I also loved that I could hear my daughter breathing when SIDS was an issue I was concerned about.
Also, just make sure the monitor and the receivers are on the same channel or else you won't hear anything.

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY Sensitive
This monitor is great - I can hear my daughter BREATHING through it.But it does tend to get a static-like hum, which is kind of annoying.

I am not crazy about the lights - when I am trying to fall sleep, they flash for even the slightest sound, which is also a bit annoying.

They're good monitors, though - I'd still recommend them! It's great to be able to have one in the bedroom and one downstairs!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great monitor
This is an excellent monitor.I love the dual receivers and the light up function. If I am in the shower or in another situation where noise is involved, I don't have to worry about hearing my baby cry.I just put the receiver somewhere in my field of vision and the lights will alert me if she cries.I highly recommend it. ... While a tad more expensive than most other baby carriers, BabyBjörn carriers offer parents some wonderful design features thatmake it well worth the extra money. By allowing you to hold your babysnugly against your chest, the carrier promotes a sense of comfort andcloseness between a parent and a child. It also allows you to maintaineye contact with and talk to your little one during trips to the store, walks around the house, and short hikes (for both mom and dad). Thecarrier's other big advantage is that it frees up both your hands whileyou carry your infant. The black carrier consists of a large triangularfront piece that supports baby's head and body, along with a set ofthick padded straps that are worn like a shoulder-and-waist harness.Newborns and smaller babies should always ride rear-facing in thecarrier, while older babies who can hold their heads upright unassistedcan ride forward-facing and enjoy the view ahead of them. Made ofmachine-washable 100 percent cotton, the carrier can be easily adjustedfrom the front for your baby's size. Although the carrier has beentested for use with babies who weigh from 8 to 25 pounds, some parentsfound that the carrier became uncomfortable to wear and placed a lot ofstrain on the lower back when it was used to carry a child weighingmore than 20 pounds. --Chris Burns ... The design of this pad makes a changing table a lot safer for awiggly baby. About 1.5 inches thick in the middle, it rises to fully4.25 inches high at the sides, making it almost impossible to roll off. There's also the standard nylon strap (with plastic snap-togetherbuckle) across the middle. Two securing tabs mean the pad can be nailedor screwed in place on a changing table made of wood or a similarmaterial. The bottom surface of the pad is stiffened with an interiorboard and foam-covered on the outside so that it's nonslip. The topsurface, quilted in a rose pattern, can be wiped clean. --RichardFarr ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best investment
This one is a bit more thicker than the other one changing pad and it was well worth it for $2 difference although I can't say for sure that my baby won't like the other one.As for this one, my baby likes it so much that he rather sleep in this instead of his crib.

This one has the screws to nail to the dresser altho I never used that since the pad doesn't slide.Just don't leave the baby alone on there.

I bought the Terry cover although it was slightly small. The feel is awful but there's not another choice so I bought some extra large burp cloth to place it under the butt area.So far it has worked really well since stain doesn't stick on the burp cloth as to the Terry cover.I probably would buy some king pillow cases to see if that fits better.

Often measurements aren't listed for products on this site.Aside from the height, there are no other measurements listed. How does Amazon expect consumers to make decisions based on a small picture and the editorial review?I feel like they are treating us like we are stupid.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your looking for a great burp cloth, look no further!
After searching online and in many retail stores at malls, Target, Babies and Toys 'R Us and Walmart, I was only finding these gauze type "cloth diapers".I was appalled that these were considered soft enough or absorbent at all to be put close to my baby!

So, after no success, I came on to Amazon and found the many incredible reviews of this product using them as burp cloths.I decided to order one package and when they arrived I was thrilled at how soft they were and looked forward to using them with my new baby. They absorb a great amount of formula since my son is quite a dribbler and they wash wondefully. In fact, I think they have even gotten softer. We were so happy with this product that we purchased another package within the first few days that we used them.

So, if you are looking to use them the way we did and find that the gauze type found in most stores to be unacceptable, then get these!!!You won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars So soft and absorbent
The cloth diapers are great as burp clothes or anything else you need to use them for to soak up wet stuff. They are at least twice as soft and thick as other cloth diapers.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are great for changing tables too
These have been a great help to me in cutting down the accidents that happen on my changing pad.We have changing pad covers on our changing pad, but we place one of these on top of the cover, so that if my son "sprinkles" during a diaper change, these catch it and we do not need to change the whole cover.Trust me, little boys love to sprinkle during diaper changes so if we didn't have these we would be washing the cover all the time. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars excellent because it's different and thorough
I have read thousands of pages of baby and child rearing books, and in that context, really appreciate this book because it covers material I haven't seen in any other book. For example, the common ear infection and how it could effect the child developmentally because of the loss of hearing. The way the author organizes the developmental milestones also provides a new interesting view on what to expect at certain stages and ages, and most importantly, how parents can help form these learnings and stages with what they do and don't do.

Further, I do appreciate the author's professional opinion where he expresses it as opinion and not necessarily research. I am not big on all the charts and graphs of the developmental stages, and for that reason only rate this a 4 and not a 5. I think i will get his other book as other reviewers mention.

Overall I really like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars good resource, NOT anti-Attachment parenting
When I read the reviews for this book, I was worried that it would be like so many anti-Attachment parenting books.I was interested in the toy recommendations, so I read it anyway.I just want to reassure any other Attachement parents who are eyeing this book that the author isn't anti-cosleeping as another reviewer suggests -- the author is very clear that he doesn't know much about cosleeping, so he couldn't (and doesn't) give any helpful tips for cosleeping like he does for cribbing.

That said, this is a really good, helpful book, with lots of great ideas.I really appreciate the author's work and his honesty about his area of expertise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for expectant parents!
I had this book by my bedside for ten years as I raised my three children. At times, the advice and wisdom seemed so contrary to what I was being told in the media and popular culture in the 1980's. Yet it was so refreshing to read about practical ways to assist my children in their develpoment, without the bells and whistles that our world tells us we must have. Burton White shows how to nurture your child's curiosity, which is a foundational element to their intelligence. My oldest son is in medical school, my second not far behind, and my third is keeping up with her two brothers. If anyone ever asks me my secret, this book is part of my answer. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Is our baby eating enough? Is this much crying normal? How do I knowwhen she is really sick? This hefty, 671-page guide to your baby's first year isbrought to you by the creators of the bestselling What to Expect When You'reExpecting. The three authors, all mothers themselves, are calm, clear, and encouraging as they tackle the first year of child-rearing, month by month. The easy-to-absorb, chronological format includes sections such as "WhatYour Baby May Be Doing," "What You Can Expect at This Month'sCheckups," "Feeding Your Baby This Month," "What You May BeConcerned About," and "What It's Important to Know."

Part Two addresses special concerns such as illness, first aid do's and don'ts,the low-birthweight baby, the adopted baby, becoming a father, and siblingrelationships. You'll also find discussions of breastfeeding and bottlefeeding, selecting a physician for the baby, diapers and clothing, safety, and many waysof stimulating the baby's development. The recipes for babies and toddlers inPart Three are useful, as are the recommended home remedies; charts on commonchildhood illnesses; height and weight; and the thorough index. (A particularstrength of the book is the authors' careful attention to diet and nutrition forboth mother and baby, incorporating the American Academy of Pediatrics' latestrecommendations on infant nutrition.) While some of the authors' perspectivesare controversial (such as whether to let your baby "cry it out" or not), thisbook remains one of the most comprehensive resources for new parents as theytoddle through their baby's first year. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Too calloused for my families needs
Let me first state that every child is different and every household has different needs. One method of childrearing may work for one family and child but work horribly for the next.

This book did not fit well or feel right to my family at all. I found myself shaking my head in disbelief at most of the methods they advise. For example, they strongly advocate letting your child `cry it out' especially at night. I tried this and it was heart wrenching for my husband and I, not to mention extremely stressful for my son. We discarded that method very quickly. We now respond to my son's needs when he expresses them. This book gives a quiet undertone that if you pamper your child too much then you're going to end up with a spoilt brat. I say that's rubbish.

Also, this book strongly discourages co-sleeping, a method that works very well for my family. I'll be darned if I'm going to get up when my son wakes for a feeding, nurse him, lull him back to sleep, and then try to get myself settled for sleep. I can't tell you how much better our son and I slept when we decided to just put him in the bed with us. Yes, there are arguments on both sides stating pros and cons. You just need to be smart about it.

This book has a very patronizing tone leaving you feel like you need to rule over your child with an iron fist or you'll be left with a kid that walks all over you. Everything about this book felt very calloused and cruel.

The only redeeming aspect of this book is that it does serve as a good reference as far as developmental milestones. It's good for reference, and that's pretty much it.

I strongly advise parents to explore a vast array of books as well as going with their gut. One method that works for one baby may not work for another; every baby is different and has different needs. This book did not work for us. We found `The Baby Book' by Dr. Sears to fit the needs of our family much more appropriately.

5-0 out of 5 stars make sure you get and review the 2nd edition, NOT the first
The problem with the previous reviewer's comments is that she's looking at the older edition of the book. THe 2nd edition, published in 2003 clearly states on page 437:

"The AAP recommends that breastfeeding continue for AT LEAST a full year and then for as long as baby and mother both want to keep it up..... Many women choose to continue nursing into the second year and beyond, and that's fine.... Older children who breastfeed are just as likely to be secure, happy, and independent as those who wean early."

PLUS -- there's an entire chapter dedicated to breastfeeding... with tons of reasons why it's a good thing. So I don't get why so many reviewers here keep on blasting this book for not being pro-breastfeeding.This book is so well balanced on so many issues -- like co-sleeping and baby wearing, etc. Looking at a ten year old version of the book that's been passed down from friend to friend and then REVIEWING it here -- instead of actually going out to the store or library to get the actual current book is unfair.

This book has been so helpful to me. As a first time parent, this book had all the answers I needed. Sure, I may not agree with everything in the book, but I'm intelligent enough to not take everything I read and treat it as gospel. I'm able to make my own decision when it comes to parenting, and not only does this book give me the tools to do that, but the authors even encourage that parents ultimately do what feels best to them.

    I highly recommend it!

1-0 out of 5 stars I threw this book in the trash can... literally
I didn't want any other parents getting their hands on it.I have several issues with this book.Their view on breastfeeding is that you should wean at age one or you will have problems.Even the AAP and World Health Organization recommends that you breastfeed for at least two years and let your baby self-wean.Also, they repeatedly call parents who won't let their babies cry it out 'soft'.If my baby is crying, I'm going to her: enough said. Also, they give only negatives and no positives to co-sleeping.I really liked their pregnancy book, but this one is garbage and I got the Dr Sears 'The Baby Book' instead. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to Infants
We got this at a baby shower and it was a hit with the hostess's 2 month old.He stared and was so intrigued.
Now, my daughter loves looking in the mirror and 'talking' to herself and to the brightly colored turtle.
The different colors, sounds and textures have kept her interested.
It is easy to attach to the stroller or carrier. (Just not on the carrier's handle since it is big enough to whack her in the face.)
This is a practical toy that I will give out as gifts to friends expecting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Toy For Baby
A friend gave this to my daughter when she was 3 mos old.At that point, she had just discovered herself in the mirror, so the underside of this turtle (which is a mirror) was great for her to stare at herself. We hung it from the side of her bassinet. Now, at 5 mos old, she doesn't go anywhere without this turtle! She chews on it - it's great for teething - and she loves grabbing the feet, which make crackling noises. This is by far her favorite toy! I have given it to several friends for shower gifts.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Penny Turtle" good for infants
Our toddler, almost two, has completely lost interest in her turtle. She received it at 6 months from her aunt Penny, hence we always called it the Penny Turtle. Our daughter never was able to push the legs or head in, although she would watch me do it for her. When pushed in, it was also compact enough to fit in the bag, and the rings made it handy to attach to strollers. But it only caught her attention for a little less than a year. She prefers furry animals and rag dolls now. ... Read more

The mirror itself is not unique but the base turned out to be very fascinating!
We dettached the mirror and put it on our baby's crib.He likes to look at his face when he wakes up.
With the base he plays alot (he is now 6 months old) holding it with both hands and feet.He also likes to stand while we are holding him and lean forward to pick up toys - one of his favorite being this base.
Another fascinating thing on the base is the tag itself.(We didn't know that and unfortunately cut off all tags from all the other toys but kept this one since it was easing the grabbing.)Our son is even trying to "pincer grasp" the tag.

The pyramid-shaped Grip and Grab Rattle is made of sturdy, safety-tested plastic tubes in bright colors that are connected by clear plastic spheres. Each sphere contains a red bead, smaller beads move freely through the tubes when the rattle is shaken. So what's the big deal? You'll have to ask a baby. For some reason, they love this thing--won't put it down. They'll go to sleep to the sound of it being gently shaken in front of them, or will miraculously be distracted from the car-seat fussies. (Mini van dealers should include the Grip and Grab as a standard feature).

This Lamaze rattle also provides learning opportunities for babies, almost from birth. The tubes are about the diameter of an adult finger--perfect for grabbing with tiny hands, and later, for chomping with tiny gums and teeth. Early lessons in cause and effect and hand- eye coordination are taught when baby moves and the rattle shakes. Included in the packaging is a booklet about infant development and creative ideas on how to use the toy, as well as a U.S. lifetime warranty. Winner of several national awards, including a National Parenting Center Seal of Approval and a National Parenting Publications Honors Award. --Katherine Ferguson ... Read more

Who cares if this toy encourages visual development or independent play? As far as my baby is concerned this toy Makes Noise. Lots of it. In fact, I think that if she'd learned the war-cry of the Rohirrim, she'd be doing that to accompany the violent shaking she gives the rattle. Raaaaarhhhhh. Activity mats are a staple baby item in most households. They provide a safe, fun, and educational environment where your little one can lie or sit, and play. Tiny Love's award-winning deluxe mat depicts a riot of happy animals. Elephants, monkeys, giraffes, and even birds will charm your baby who will love the round mirror, squeaky bird, crinkly elephant ear, and pullable giraffe tail. Also included are four plastic rings that can hang from the crossbars, each one with a different plush animal attached to it providing more stimulation and activities. Hidden in one corner of the playmat is a small plastic box housing a switch and speaker. Move the switch to Mozart to hear 10 continuous minutes of music and to light up the three flowers on the mat. Switch to Nursery Tunes for shorter snippets of three popular songs. The mat and its arches fold up nicely, and the entire gym snaps together and travels easily. --Pam Lauer ... Read more

My daughter absolutely loves her playmat. She usually doesn't like to be laid down, but she will play on this mat for about twenty minutes at a time. It has great music and light-up-flowers that she loves. Also, she used to hate being put on her tummy, but now she can lay on her tummy and watch herself in the mirror or watch the lights. I highly recommend this playmat against others!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent play gym
This is a great play gym. Our kids loved it from about 3 months on. It has a lot of great features like a mirror, cute animals on the mat (which they like to look at), a monkey rattle, a giraffe rattle, an elephant whose trunk expands and vibrates, lights and music. We even loaned this to friends and their child loved it as well.

I washed it about 5 or 6 times and it has held up very well. I washed it on cold and dryed it on low. I recommend this toy as it is very entertaining and it folds for travel.
