1-0 out of 5 stars Action/Strategy minus the strategy
    This game is extremely linear.

Clear out a room, move to the next, kill people, move to the next.Occasionally rescue a hostage that has very poor AI and likes to get shot, or defuse a bomb that is in a room previously filled with very stupid terrorists.

The obstacles are static, the enemies are always in the same place, and the only 'strategy' involved is the fact that you can only save twice per level.Talk about realistic, I bet lots of military people wish THEY had a save and a load function (you don't get to save in game in the original Rainbow Six games, which is a good thing).Oh well.

In one level, after clearing your way to a hostage, making as much noise as you like with no repercussions, you take the hostage, who you cannot tell to NOT follow you, to a very large open area.In this area there is another stupid hostage and the only way to move them around is to actually walk into them and push them (a grueling process). You have to wait in this large open area until an evac comes.

Here's a smart idea, let's sit in a big open area while terrorists come at us from every angle while we wait for a helicopter...when we could just go back the way we came, since our cars are outside. The sarcasm should be obvious.

I'm not even going to talk about the next level, which is worse. There are no choices in this game, other than that of weapons, and there is no strategy.I would recommend Rainbow Six (original) for PC, as well as Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. These games allow you to choose your team(s) of up to 8 men and women, from snipers to demolition experts, to scouts, and designate them on 1 to 4 teams.

In Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear, there is a very detailed plannig phase, where you have a 3D blueprint of your next mission's location, and you can set the path for your teams to follow, via waypoints. There is also a great multiplayer system, where you can compete, or you can co-operate and play the any part of the campaign.

Long story short:Rainbow Six 3 is crap, and I'd think Tom Clancy would be ashamed to have his name on it.The original is greater by far, as is Rogue Spear. As well, as with any first person shooter, the PC version is better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun to Mess Around With, But Several Small Errors
Being a big fan of tactical games, Rainbow Six 3 was on my to-get list and just recently I picked up my copy.I had a blast with it and still play it despite the fact that I beat it several times. The weapons were veryy accurate in terms of practicality and functionality; I was very pleased that Ubi Soft actually got the technical information of the actual weapons and implimented them correctly instead of making a messed-up array of weapons like the RCP-90 in Golden Eye (Great weapon for a great game).

The graphics are not bad given the time of RBS3's release.Nothing special about them, but they arn't lacking soo much that one begins to notice it.However, the AI is seriously lacking on both the terrorists and your fellow team mates. When you give Zulu (Attack on your command) commands, they can get stuck in corners walk into the given area and get killed in the process. It's really annoying to move them out of your way too.Several times when clearing rooms they'll either jump out in front of me and take a few rounds to the back or they'll stop in the doorway and start shooting like it was a carnival game.

The terrorist AI is also lacking.I could take out someone with a loud .40 S&W handgun and the nearby terrorist will just scratch his head wondering if it was a firearm or if his stomache just made a noise.Other times the terrorist will try to roll away to safety and instead roll towards you and shoot you while rolling... it's really weird.

What also makes me mad is the fact that you need XBox Live in order to do Co-Op.I'm sorry, but I don't feel like paying money in order to play Co-Op.I think it's rediculous and a money-making scheme dreamed by Tom Clancy or Bill Gates.I was escatic to play Conflict: Desert Storm on Co-Op, why can't other games be the same.

Lastly, I hate it when you can only control yourself and not others, much less give individual orders. It takes away from the controlability from the game, thereby being at the mercy of the AI... and we know how much I love the AI.

But nonetheless, I loved playing this game.My favorite thing to do it use phosphorous on the terrorist and watch them burst into flames. It's a really fun game, but these small errors really do add up to a big deal. However, it is still worth getting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Move, move, move... I said MOVE!!
I was a huge fan of rainbow six on the PC and was pretty excited about the console version. I expected it to be a bit more 'arcadey', but having also got Ghost Recon, also expected a similar level of realism and strategy. But all in all I have to say I was pretty disappointed. On the plus side, the game is really well presented, with some good missions, great graphics, and the sound is superb. But it's the gameplay where it fell down for me. For starters all you have is one group - consisting of 4 men, of which you are one, and can only play one - Ding Chavez. One of the best parts of Rainbow 6 on the PC (and indeed the Ghost Recon games on console) is the ability to send different units off to different areas, storm rooms at the same time from multiple angles and give eachother cover fire. With the console version there is none of this. You don't plot waypoints or anything like that, you literally issue orders on the fly. To be honest, that didn't really bother me too much. In fact I quite liked the added sense of on the spot realism this gave the game. You can issue a variety of commands, most of which can also be issued with a 'go' code, so you can do your thing, and then shout to code for them to execute their orders on demand.

But without the advance planning what you really need is some AI to keep the game realistic, and functioning smoothly. Sadly I found this quite poor. There are many niggly problems that are really detrimantal to the game. For staters when you tell your team to move - they don't move to your crosshairs - they move towards them and then fan out into all kinds of stupid positions even taking fire from bad guys, which they wouldn't have done if they'd have stopped where you asked. In a game that essentially relies on stealth tactics, it's like sending an army of chimps into a hostage situation.. This is incredibly frustrating. Opening doors is also extremely irritating. You can't seem to sneak it open without your team attempting to do something. For example, you press the A button and the D pad to open the door slightly to check for badguys, but when you release it you get a 'ROGER, opening door..' in your ear, and the whole team arrives to open the already semi open door.. Also can anyone explain why you can only order your team to flash or frag rooms that have a door?? There were many occasions where I wanted to order a teammember to frag an open room.

Also, it has to be said that the voice recognition is not great. Sometimes I had to actually check to see if the mic was muted after having said MOVE!! about 5 times. In the end I found it was a little more successful if I faked an american accent. So perhaps you guys will be ok... I also noticed that Zulu go codes can result in odd things with voice recognition. You will set the team up to storm a room on a go code, get to your door, issue the go code and they will just move to you, or try and storm the room from your door.. This was not a problem when using the interface.

Enemy AI is also not as good as it ought to have been. Forstarters, in a game that is primarily about stealth, they never run for help, nor seem to get particularly alarmed when you plug one of their accomplices nearby. And how come everyone seems to know that you're coming? An enemy will step out from round a corner, you'll shoot him, and he'll run off. 2 minutes later he will step out from round the corner again, seemingly having completely forgotten there was a team of four camouflaged anti terrorist officers kneeling with big guns waiting there.. Snipers are probably the most ludicrous though. Despite the fact that the enemy effectively has no idea that Rainbow are in the building, they appear to be camped out waiting for you - tiny little spots on distant cranes, that shoot you in the head as soon as you step round a corner. The game is furiously difficult in places.

But it's not all bad. Generally, despite the niggles the game functions really well, (more so if you don't use the headset) and you are rewarded for 'sensible' playing. You can't run around Halo style in Rainbow six, you have to use cover, tread carefully, keep to walls, and not expose the group in wide open spaces. A few shots will kill, so listen to your team mates, and use your different view modes (night vision, and thermal). Whilst it is not as strategic as it's contemporaries, the small level of strategy involved is satisfying enough, particularly when you confuse the enemy by storming a room through two doors etc. Hostages are also dealt with extremely well, you can secure them, or escort them, and the bad guys will not hesitate to kill them if you aren't fast enough.

So all in all, it is more one for those who prefer the arcade side of these style of games than the strategy, and if you can forgive it's shortcomings, it is a good, albeit tough 1st person shooter. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Game
I love to play first person shooters and this is a goodie. It is not much different from the last installment....I do miss the .50 cal sniper rifle. This one has a 2 player option for the campaign missions...very nice addition. The baddies are the mostly the same spots, but if you restart a level...it does change terrorist positions...which increases the frustration level but it also increases the replay level immensely.Halo and other fps makers...take note please try to increase the replay value of your shooters....possibly a random placement of troops when a level is replayed or restarted.A very nice game all in all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Black Arrow continues in the vein of Rainbow Six 3
If you like first person shooter (FPS) games, then you should appreciate this one.Black Arrow is simply another chapter of Rainbow Six 3, and uses the same mechanics and even the same characters like Ding Chavez, Eddie Price, and so on.The graphics and sounds are really good, and the weapons are realistic too.The game is challenging, and enemies must be killed with head shots (or chest shots, at least).

My biggest complaint with the mechaics of the game is its sluggish feel.Sometimes, it feels as if your character is running in sand, especially when the enemies are firing on you.You can walk off ledges and "jump down", usually at the expense of a life bar, but you still cannot leap up onto anything.I would like to see this aspect added to later versions of the Rainbow Six 3 line since this is possible in many other FPS games.Additionally, your character often gets hung-up on objects in the environment. That means that you can get stuck on a chair that you are trying to walk past, or your gun barrel can block you from passing through a doorway. Also, it takes too long to throw a grenade as you must stop, select it from a weapon menu, and then throw it.All these steps are too tedious and clunky in the heat of battle.

However, this game shines on XBOX Live.I admit that I am a complete addict and have spent far too many hours online gaming into the wee hours of the morning. The maturity level of many of the players online leaves something to be desired, and I have been more than irritated at the occasional foul-mouthed junior high kid talking trash to anyone within earshot, but one quickly learns to build up a thick skin to these minor detractions. The XBOX Live version is so fun because it is challenging and exciting. The game keeps score and posts the results of the match in the "lobbby" at the end.It is very competitive and entertaining to see how one did when the dust settles. It even tracks players' cumulative statistics and ranks them.I honed my skills on Sharpshooter, a free-for-all where everyone is against everyone else.It took a while for me to realize that a head shot is the best way to eliminate a target; speed is important but does not always determine who wins.I then learned to appreciate the other matches such as Total Conquest and Retrieval. You can even create your own team, or clan or crew, as it is sometimes referred to as, and you can design a logo, motto, and brief description.A player's crew is designated by a four letter word or group of symbols in front of the name, and you can set up and challenge other clans by going to a website called "TeamCompete.com" or by just inviting another crew to a match.

In short, while not perfect mechanically, this game rocks! It is extremely challenging, and is a blast to play on XBOX Live.Go out and buy or rent a copy today; you won't be disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Not as Good As The Originals"
"Rainbow Six 3:Black Arrow" is just a bigger version of the original. But the Online Multiplayer has bigger maps and a new gun. The story isn't bad, considering that it's a First-Person Shooter. The A.I. is a little bit smarter, but thats not saying much, plus there's only ONE new gun. And whats the point in having Retrievel in a Squad Based Tactical game. It gets really stupid, and there really is no point in making this game. Say what you want, "Black Arrow" isn't that great to me. I realized that it's just like the original, just bigger. "Halo 2" may have the same problem, but people want "Halo 2" to be alot like "Halo", just a little bit bigger. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Set in the year 2008, Ghost Recon is a Tom Clancy-inspired war game that puts you in command of a Special Forces unit pitted against Russian ultranationalists trying to rebuild the former Soviet Union. Although the story arc is grand in scale (in keeping with Clancy's style), the game doesn't involve you in the war's major battles. You'll actually spend most of your time behind enemy lines--rescuing downed fighter pilots, knocking out enemy patrols, ambushing armor columns.

You control a six-man squad, divided into two teams, and you have the opportunity to handpick your squad members (and their equipment) after each mission briefing. You can switch your point of view to any of the six active soldiers--the soldier you control automatically becomes the leader of his team, while the other team operates according to orders you give via a map interface. Thus, you can move one team into a covering position, leave them with orders to provide cover fire, and then lead the other team in to reach your objective. Or, break up your squad and try to achieve two objectives simultaneously.

The level of detail and realism is incredible, right down to the way the soldiers communicate in hushed tones and with gestures. The complexity of the game requires an elaborate controller setup that takes a while to get used to (luckily there are plenty of training missions designed to help you learn the multitude of movement, weapons, and command functions). Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's worth the time spent in boot camp. --Maile Bohlmann

    Pros:

    • Incredible graphics and realism
    • Wide array of tactical options integrates strategy into the action
    • Missions are diverse and challenging

    Cons:

    • Controls are complicated, hard to master, and sometimes counterintuitive
    • Dramatic music and "drill sergeant" narration between missions is pretty campy
    • Enemy soldiers sometimes behave too predictably

WHEN I WENT TO NEW YORK CITIE FOR VACATION I WAS LOOKING IN A GAME STORE AND FOUND THIS GAME. IT LOOKED PRETTY GOOD SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GET IT.
    PROS:
EVEN THOUGH MANY PEOPLE SAY THE CONTROLS ARE HARD TO GET A HANG OF I DISAGREE. I DO RECOMEND JUST DO A HEAD TO HEAD BATTLE WITH YOUR SELF TO PRACTICE THE CONTROLS.ALSO THE GRAPHICTS ARE VERY WELL DONE. THEVIOLANCE KS VERY REALISTIC ALONG WITHTHE SOUNDS. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR VIOLANCE LOOK NO FURTHER. IN THIS GAME YOUR CHARECTER CAN EATHER STAND, NEAL, OR CRALL AND STILL BE MOBILE. LASTLY YOU CAN HAVE A MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIN.
OVERALL THIS IS THE 4TH BEST GAME I HAVE BEHIND BOTH HALO'S AND THE SIMPSONS HIT AND RUN.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!
Okay, the only reasons u shouldn't love this game are:
    -You can't stomach the violence.
-Your mom won't let you get it.
-You think its to hard cuz u die in 1-3 hits.
    -You don't know whats good.
-u are a pacifist, liberal, moron, or a hippie.
-u don't have video game systems.

2-0 out of 5 stars Rent it first
I purchased this game based on all of the hype and good reviews I'd seen on it.Once I got it home to play it, not only did I not have fun, the game only succeded in making me angry.

I played through the training scenarios.Already I was not impressed with the controls.I tried playing the first mission 3 times. The premise seemed pretty simple. You're in control of 2 3-man teams. You sweep through an area, accomplishing tasks and killing unfriendlies.I was thoroughly wasted on all three times I played the first mission.I didn't even get close to the end of the first level. The controls were clumsy and the enemies were nigh impossible to see.Even the map gave me little information as to what was going on.

Now, I know you're supposed to take your time with this game.Halo it ain't.But, I like games that take time.I've played through levels of Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 multiple times just to get the fewest number of kills possible.I also finished Morrowind which is not exactly an instant gratification game.I didn't try to haul through GR, absorbing damage. There are some games some people just can't get the hang of.Maybe this was one of those for me.I also tried the first Rainbow 6 when it came out, and I hated that, too.Maybe it's squad-based games I hate.I would rather be in control of one guy and know exactly what he's doing than 6 and have 3 of those running around doing God knows what.

As with any game, I recommend renting it first. If you rent it and like it, great. It cost you an extra 3-5 bucks than if you just bought it.If you hate it, you save upwards of 45 bucks. The choice is yours. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent game for the price
Great game, loads of hours of playing. Better than the first one, not quite as good as the #2 release. If you are playing 2 and have never tried it, it is worth picking up for your collection. Online play is decent too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game for xbox
This game is the Best. It's like paintball, except u don't have to pay for each paintball game. =)

3-0 out of 5 stars Same old song and dance
This game isn't much different from the first. The game is definately tailored for those with Live. For those of us without....The game is still rich in detail but a few bugs still do remain. The waypoint guide still requires you (sometimes) to get into the exact spot or spin circles to release it.Arms will still appear through doors and similar barriers and team mates will still get stuck everynow and then. The most disheartening thing is that a sniper really isn't needed. The specialists have a amount of accuracy at a range that only a sniper should be able to hit.If they can see it on zoom they can hit it.The number of levels for those of us without Live is also a downside. But still all in all this is a good game and for a challenge play on Elite. It's a keeper. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A Sad Ending: No one plays online anymore.
When I got this game when it came out (a year ago or so, maybe even less), I put in many hours online. Even back then, the game had major glitches like not loading at all and giving message like reboot. It took some time to get on line. You had to wait until a match is over or until the host decides to launch the game. It took even longer to get a game going as a host. Anyway, the wait to get online was ALL worth it because gameplay experience online was addictive and fun, especially after playing for hours and getting really good at it. There are plenty of maps, some are better than others. I'm sure some reviewer has already described the maps.
What I wanted to say was as of May 2005, after not having played for a few months, I went back online and was TOTALLY disappointed. Nobody was playing single player game. No quick matches could be found. A few were playing squad game but again only very few. I was surprised to find how short-lived this game is. If you are thinking of getting this game for online experience, you might want to reconsider. The single player game is so-so. What a bad-ending for a once-great online game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay game, but could be better.
This game was really fun to play, but only the full experience can be fulfilled by the multiplayer xbox live. Talking to each other and fighting against each other was the best way to get the full experience out of the game. The single player campaigns were too boring and very challenging.

All the weapons and equipment in the game were very well detailed and there was a whole lot of variety of equipment you can use.

The video game is worth playing a lot of, but not worth the fifty dollars or whatever is going for now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Socomized is understating things...
With Socom what do most people do?Skip the single player and hop online.Well that is the case this time, which is a shame because the first two ghost recon games had the strongest single player modes of all the squad-based shootera.Too linear, too restrictive and too limited. So if I were to attach a score to the single player, it would get a 2.5.Not worth it, especially for full price.

Online is a whole different story. You can also play lots of single player online, which can make up for the 1-P AI.Just so you know though random humans can also be a pain to work with, so try to only play people from your friends list. Then you have regular and team varients on a bunch of different things like deathmatch, siege, king of the hill and last man standing to name the main ones...within this you have lots of options to change.Maps are intimidating at first, but rewarding once you figure their layouts out.The main thing it has over socom is you don't regulary see people emptying full clips into eachother, but then again the death animations in GR2 can look very weird.Grenades have a better radius than rainbow six 3 as well.Frankly this game is much better than Rainbow Six 3 in a lot of areas, including graphics and sound. The graphics are vastly superior to Socom 2's, and the textures in general are better than Rainbow six's by a pretty good margin.Weather effects are done very well. The sound also is very well done, a stable of the ghost recon series.Surround sound is a very useful tool here.Interface wise it feels cheap for such a long-time developer of Live games.I mean searching takes forever, and even then you can't tell what the settings are until you join a lobby. This can get aggrivating, but the community for the game is generally good so most likely you'll stick with a group for a while.

Overall Ghost Recon 2 obviously has let down fans of the series without live, it really has been turned into the best military shooter on XBL.Don't trade in Socom 2(maps for that game are very hard to beat) but if you like that game look into this one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good overall
The first thing I have to say about this game is: This is not a first person shooter. It is a third person shooter like GTA. This game can get boring a little fast, but it has some cool features: Two different types of multiplayer; one you can go against a friend and you would each have a squadron and the other is just a head-to-head match. Each character has a special ability. Tex can take out two weapons, Flint has a auto aim, Brutus has this weird heat-sensing thing and Hawk has a stealth mode. Each person can only take two guns. There is also a co-op mode aswell.

3-0 out of 5 stars BRUTE FORCE ISN'T WHAT I HAD EXPECTED
After watching the video for this game, I had been excited for the release of this game. The day it came out, I ran to Toys R' Us to buy it.But it definately wasn't what I had expected. The whole four person squad is a great feature, don't get me wrong. You can instantly switch between a four elite supercommandos, each with their own special ability.Tex is a tough soldier whose specialty is using dual weapons.Brutus, an alien, is the toughest soldier and his special ability is being able to see anything with a special vision that makes enemies stand out in bright orange. He can also charge at opponents and kill them.Flint is a long-range sniper whose speciality is target-locking.Hawk is a small, but tough soldier who can become invisible and sneak up on opponents and slice them with her powerblade. The weapons in this game are pretty cool and the sound is great. But the storyline is kind of boring. Here is how I rate the game:

    Overall: 7 / 10
    Gamplay: 6 / 10
Graphics: 8 / 10 (the stongpoint of the game)
    Storyline: 4 / 10 (very disappointing)
    Value: 5 / 10 (Not worth the $50.00 I spent)
    Sound: 7 / 10

If the storyline could be a little bit more intriguing, this game would definately be 4 stars. But even with a better story, this game still wouldn't be great. The third person aspect isn't my favorite. The enemies are strange and not well explained. The sound is decent, but seems like someone accidently forgot to polish them up.The grenades visuals are very good, but the sound is horrid. The weapons have a flat sound to them. But the music during the game is good and the voice acting is great. The missions in the game are very straight forward and they do not really change over the course of the game. They begin to get repetive. Also, the game is set in six different worlds with 18 different missions. But the missions on each world are identical. It seems like somebody didn't even change the layout of them when they progressed to a new mission. This game did not live up to my expectations.

Save your money on this game: just rent it.Don't buy it.This game is fun and the graphics are the core of what keeps you playing; but with the combination of a poor storyline and repetive gameplay make this game not worth buying. This game is ok to rent though.I was very disappointed with Microsoft Game Studios when they realeased this game. The graphics are good, but with the poor storyline, this game is definately not one of my all-time favorites.Save your money: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH BUYING THIS GAME.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Multiplayer co-op, game falls a little short.
I am always looking for MULTIPLAYER co-op games and so was extremely excited to find this one and it had good reviews. My first reaction to the game was, mixed. The graphics could have been better and the camera angle takes some getting use to, its set just behind the character. But the co-op multiplayer, with up to 4 players was real cool!

There are 4 characters each with a different ability and weaponry to match. You can only pick up guns that fit your characters style. You can swap between them all in battle and give the rest commands to follow.Like I said this is great.

The weapons are boring and are #'s not namesso its hard to tell what they are.I still barely know. The best thing about the game is the squad based fighting and the multiplayer. If it was not for that I would have been seriously disappointed. The missions become repetitive and for some reason you keep going back to this cycle of worlds over and over.

Overall I give it 3 stars because the game is great for multiplayer squad based combat but it falls short in graphics, weapons and enemies and story.

Its pretty cheap to buy used, I would recommend picking it up for around $10. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY!!!
Thankyou! We finally get a game that has the battles from the movies new and old and are able to play any part or role in them including driving the vehicles involved in the specific battles. The only thing that brings it down is the somewhat redundant battles that aren't in the movies that don't have any vehicles, which is the greatest point about the game, other than the fact that you can pic virtually any main soldier character other than ewoks :'(.I just have to say that the greatest thing about the game is of course Hoth.
A Brief History of Contemporary Hoth:

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire -
Flying a snowspeeder and shooting AT-ST's, probe droids, and AT-AT's was exiting the first time, but going back to this version is sort of dull.

    Star Wars:Rogue Squadron -
The music was better than SOTE, and so were the graphics and overall quality of the level.Again, you are the lone wolf having to take down all AT-AT's and AT-ST's alone. This one was hard at first.

    Rogue Leader -
Finally a team effort has been brought into the battle of Hoth. You can command your squadmates and the overall feel of the battle is more hectic and like the movie as people on the ground join in the fighting as well.

    Rebel Strike -
If you've played Hoth in this you know what I'm going to say. This was the goofiest thing I've ever seen.Being Luke running around on the ground is how it happened in the movie, and it was a good effort to mix it up a bit, but it's very tacky.

    BATTLEFRONT -
Finally, Hoth from every possible viewpoint of the battle. You can be rebels, or the Empire which is by far the coolest. The first time I piloted an AT-AT I couldn't believe it.I was stunned. The AT-ST's are also quit good, and I must say very intimidating from the rebel's point of view. The Taun-Tauns are pointless other than for speed, and the Snowspeeders are cool too, since you can sit in the back and let the pilot fly and shoot lasers.VERY COOL

My only complaint is the levels without vehicles and the fact that there aren't many levels.
Also, the Geonosis battle isn't as hectic as it was in the movie, and on XBOX i expected people to be running around everywhere, but it seemed sort of quiet.

The Kashyyyk duo is the most pointless thing ever also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stay Calm!!!!!!
People dont worry!!!! you may think this game sucks with no space battles no plyable jedi, weak enemy A.I. and all that but when Battlefront II comes out, all that will be fixed. But the thing is you must unlock the Jedi to play as them!

5-0 out of 5 stars great mulitplayer game for a firstperson shooter lover
i thought this game was great and has the best splitscreen play of any firstperson shooter i have ever played. I couldn't find any downsides to the game and all the reviews i read on it were good. For Splitscreen you choose one of the huge and detailed maps to fight agianst youre friends. on single player you can capture planets, fight lots of the battles from the movies, or just hop right into a battle on any map as the Cis, Republic, Empire, or Rebels. I wouldn't get this game if you only have one controler or don't have xbox live. The only real downside to this game was VERY minor. Jedi are impossible to kill. Also during the battles you reincarnate as a sniper, rocket launcher guy, machine gunner, pilot, or a unique charecter that varies throught the missions such as a guy with a jet pack or a wookie. You can also get in tons of different vehichles and planes that vary from map to map. Overall i would give this game two thumbs up.

P.S. (Don't buy this game if you ABSOLUTLY HATE the Star Wars theme) ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars KICK@$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Republic Commando, Star Wars 2.5, the best ever Star Wars game to date not tomention one of the best I've played, ever. It's just better than Halo and Halo 2.They got boring fast except for XBOX LIVE.This feels like it will never lose it's intention on making your jaw drop with stunning graphics, really incredible gameplay high quality sound etc. This isn't and 8/10 or a 4/5 it's almost perfect. My only gripe is that the clones voices are different, but it's probrably some voice masking device to tell them apart. AWESOME ISN'T ENOUGH TO DESCRIBE THIS GAME!!! GO GEORGE LUCAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good if you like gunning games.
This game is good but it just doesn't cut it following up in Halo's wake. Less intense than Halo but the levels are basicly repetetive after the first. Plus, being able to revive your soldiers makes it a lot less challenging. Still, it is pretty fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please wake me up... I fell asleep
This game was cool through the first level, but every level after that was almost identical. The weapons set seamed very weak, I felt like I was shooting a pea shooter the whole game. I also spent way too much time "Retrieving Bacta" (health for the squad) this game really seams two years behind in game play and definitely didn't live up to the hype. The squad control was OK but there is very little strategy when commanding them. The blue highlights around Snipe or Anti-Armor locations scream put a guy here, again eliminating any strategy. Buy the way "XBOX Live" game play is horrible, I will be trading this game in tomorrow. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great replay value
Sure the graphics are outdated and the control system takes some getting used to but once your past that you will be hooked on this game forever. The replay value is increadable, as you can get promotions and medals. Once your through the game you instantly start a new game and attempt to get all the award this game offers. The shooting sequences, although not intense put you at the edge of the seat as you are thankful to be alive from one second to the next. Get three of your friends together this weekend and kill the night (And the terrorists...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but hard
Um... this game is great! It has great graphics, great music, but it's very challenging. On the eighth level you get captured by the Iraqis and the U.S. drops bombs to let out one of your men. You only have a knife and you have to rescue the other three men. I beat it, though, cuz I rock!!! By all means, buy this game!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars conflict:Desert Storm 2-Back to baghdad
desert storm is the second most realistic game I've played but it'sthe best game I've ever played!!! All the guns are real. The graphics are great! The makers should of made multiplayer so you can go against each other instead of cooperative. The unrealistic part is when you get shot in the head, neck, or chest you don't die. Other than that it is a perfect mix of hard and easy !!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding shoot-em up
If you love a squad based shoot-em up game this has got to be the game for you. The game has outstanding graphics from the great Xbox power.
Through out the game there are excellent missions what are just outstanding and mission that once I got started I just could not stop until I had finished them.
The overall weapons that are available to you are just outstanding.
Through the game you can interact with helicopter Jets. With the vehicles you can drive tanks and the main vehicle that you can use is a jeep type truck.
This a great game for the shoot-em up gamer , I must say must have. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Extreme language ruins good game
I purchased Conflict:Vietnam hoping to have an experience akin to that of the Desert Storm Conflict titles. In many ways, C:V compared favorably to those games.Although the graphics could have been more realistic and improved, I suppose their ethereal nature (especially in the "Bad Moon" mission) was a good change of pace from the other Vietnam shooters released around the same time. They developers cleaned up some annoying control issues from the earlier Desert Storm games, for instance, streamlining the giving of medical care among soldiers. All in all, the plot was original and engaging and the missions sufficiently varied to give the player a real sense of what the Vietnam War was like.

What ruined the game for me was the extreme "strong language" used by the characters.I know that 2004 was, regrettably, the year of the foul-mouthed Vietnam shooter, but C:V's profanity was way over the top.It seemed that the characters, who had much to discuss about their predicament, had a vocabulary limited only to the F-word, the S-word, and a few other unrepeatable combinations.

I know that some folks in the military "swear like a sailor", especially in very stressful moments, but the use of this language could only be described as unbelievably, even unrealistically, gratuitous.I also know, or know of, military folks serving today who go out of their way not to fit that stereotype. It seems outrageous that during a time of REAL war, a software company would stoop into the gutter to degrade the type of people who are risking their lives to preserve our freedoms by perpetuating that stereotype. All it demonstrated was a lack of intelligence and meaningful vocabulary on the part of the game's scriptwriters, not the fictional or real soldiers of today.

It's possible that without this needless language, C:V could have gotten a Teen rating and appealed to a much broader audience.Instead, all the writers did was show that they had an extremely limited vocabulary.I hope that if they ever make a sequel to C:V, they consider returning to the language of the Desert Storm series.Otherwise, they are sure never to get my business again . . . and I'm sure I'm not alone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rentable, but not buyable
Luckily I rented this game instead of buying it outright.Even now I feel like asking for my rental money back. The graphics for this game are decent, but not amazing. And the overly complicated system for issuing orders to your team or an individual will make you forget about any redeeming characteristics of the graphics. The worst thing by far though is the actual aiming and control of the currently selected squad member. It's cool that games are starting to use the actual sights of the weapons you're carrying instead of the good old targeting reticle, but in this game the sights are way too big, and effectively give you tunnel vision by obstructing your periphreal vision. You can try using the auto-aim feature, but for some reason it likes to go from being locked onto the enemy to momentarily locking onto on of your teammates if they run anywhere near the line of fire, so that you shoot your own guys instead. The worst is with the mounted machine guns though. You have the 3rd person mode where the players body is in the way so you can't see precisely where you're aiming, and a first person mode where you still can't see a thing because of the huge gun sights.I enjoyed playing both Conflict Desert Storm games but I just couldn't get into this one and frustratedly returned it to the video store long before it was due back. The one plus of this game is the soundtrack for the cutscenes and when you're at the American base, you can't go wrong with the Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane for a Vietnam videogame.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Vietnam game ever
Conflict: Vietnam is a really good game. It is better than Conflict: Desert Storm 1 and 2. It is hard but it is still posible to beat it. I did because I got the stategy guide which helps a lot. The grafics are really good and the controls are the same. Now in Conflict: Vietnam you can tell you squad members to heal people, Shield people or pick up something. The AI is a lot better. Sometimes the enemy will play dead or plan a ambush. Theres even boobytraps like tripwires, pungi sticks and pits with spikes in it. The best part is the vehicles. You can ride in jeeps, tanks, river boats, helicopters and a armored thing with a lot of guns on it. You cant steer the riverboat or helicopter but you can shoot the guns on them. It has some real battles that you can fight in like Hue and Tet Offensive. Conflict: Vietnam is in 3rd person and you can look down the guns sight if you want to aim carefully. If you liked Conlict: Desert Storm you should definatly get this. ... Read more

Freedom: The Battle for Liberty Island is set in a world where the Soviet Union won the Cold War. Now a fierce conflict is beginning to unfold in the streets of America. Red Army troops are pouring across the borders of Mexico and Canada shortly after a nuclear missile is unleashed on Washington D.C. Chaos sets in when breaking news informs Americans that their President has been killed and the Russians have invaded the country.

Players take on the role of a blue-collar worker who evolves into a charismatic and fearless freedom fighter obsessed with finding and freeing his brother, who has been taken hostage along with other New Yorkers by the Soviets. You must recruit and lead an army of urban guerillas to take on the Soviet threat in the streets of New York City. Freedom: The Battle for Liberty Island provides two layers of gameplay: A strategic turn-based mode that centers on base operations in an underground sewer system and an action mode that unfolds in the streets where fierce battles are won or lost and resources are captured. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully simple
This game has alot of fun elements. Both the single player and multiplayer I enjoyed.

Graphics: The graphics are good. They border on cell-shading.

Sound: Again, it's good. The people will say some funny things to you like "I'm not your huckleberry" when you try to recruit them without enough spots on your squad.

Camera View: 3rd person. It's easy to move around with it, no complaints.

Weapons: On multiplayers the soviets get grenades, pistol, and an ak-47; Americans get rebel weapons like molotov cocktails, pistol, and a shotgun. Other guns you get are a rocket launcher, sniper rifle, gun turrets, and flamethrower.

Single Player: I have always liked movies like 'Red Dawn' that dealt with the Soviets invading us and I was pretty satisfied with the plot. Not much strategy is needed on the levels on easy but on higher difficulties you do. The cut scenes are interesting.

Multiplayer: Some people who reviewed this game didn't think much of the multiplayer, but I really enjoyed it. Some flaws are that there are only three levels, taking over bunkers doesn't always work right, and three player multiplayer is always a lopsided fight no matter who is fighting.

5-0 out of 5 stars freedom fighters
its the best game and if you dont like that is not cool. this game has great features and great graphics.

4-0 out of 5 stars lo does it again!!!!!!
the AI in this game is amazing. the men/women you recruit not only follow your orders, they are also highly intuitive- for example, they wont only stay in the area you send them, they will find cover, the will duck during heavy enemy fire, and will search out and destroy all enemies within a perimeter.
F.F.'s is so much more tactical than i thought it would be. i love sending out three of my team to one area and another three soldiers to another- it's just so COOL!
it took me a very long time to purchase this game. i pretty much figured that i'd just stay happy with lo interactive's (is it lo or io???) hitman series and not push my luck with some of their side projects- well 'luck' had it that i recently saw this game for $15 and said, "why not?" suffice it to say that i'm really surprised, and will now ALWAYS purchase games that lo interactive puts out.
the reason i'm not giving my overall score a five is because i have yet to play the multiplayer and judging by other people's reviews, it's not that great. although- the single player ROCKS far more than i ever thought possible so...
...i highly recommend this must-have title!!!!!! ... Read more

Based on the same elements that made the movie so enjoyable--fear, suspense, and the possibility that your teammate might be infected--The Thing lets players creep into action with the help of several nonplayer characters (NPCs), whom you use to protect and aid your group. Using a core team of engineers, medics, and soldiers, players must manage the level of trust in, and fear of, you that these characters experience. They react to your actions and might betray you if they think you are the Thing. Conversely, you must constantly monitor which one of them might be infected. Other characters must trust you, but if they fear you, actions as drastic as coercion are necessary. For example, if a soldier doesn't have confidence in you, you may have to put your gun to his head to convince him you're not the Thing... and for his sake, he'd better believe. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrifyingly Fun Game
The Thing rocks. From the very begining this game is scary. You start out as a soldier sent out looking for survivors in a destroyed science base in antarctica but find only mangled or frozen bodies, and scattered papers that describe some kind of mutating infection.Later you find a fellow soldier, cowering in a corner, surrounded by mutilated bodys and babbeling about an unknown horror. This horror, the thing, is a virus that mutates anyone infected by it into a nightmarish beast.Your fellow soldiers suspect everyone of being infected and paranoia sets in. In this game you not only have to fight the monsters, but also cope with your teammates fears.A great story, cool weapons, and managing fear make The Thing a grade A horror game. The gory content of this game also makes it scary.Finding an evecerated corpse impaled upon its own severed limb, while your men cringe nervously as they hear strange shrieks and growels coming from the shadows, really adds up to a terrify game.I love this game and all my buddys who have rented or borrowed it ended up buying it because they loved it so much too.If you enjoy horror games or are a fan of the movie than buy it because this will blow you away.(you should also see the movie if you havent already, its great)

    5-0 out of 5 stars WHOA--So Scary
Yo-- thats all I can say after playing the Thing. This game is so sweet and scary. You will see the thing pass by your window as you look out it while playing the game... the suspense kills me-- 5 stars- all the way.

This game is not perfect in design. But it is survival horror at it's best and the controls beat Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The Thing is one of the most tense games I have ever played. From the grotesque mosnters to your own squad mates commiting suicide, you never really relax. One great gameplay dynamic is that you have to dish out the ammo and food. But you have to be careful if your squadmate has turned into the thing. Fantstic game, even better if you like the movie.

Really good game. go get it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This game is dangerousely hilarious and fun!
When i say that this game is probobly the funniest game up to date, i am not joking at all. Just watching these characters imitating the british accent is hilarious, not to mention the cutscenes, where, for example, a character gets shoved up a rhinos a$$, because he is catching a cold and everyone thinks that he will "warm up" that way. That was probobly one of the funniest scenes in the entire game.

Now on to the actual review. As i always do, i will break my review down into sections of graphics, gameplay and audio.

Graphics- The graphics in Armed and Dangerous are probobly the only problem in this game all together. I think that they could have done a much better job with the graphics aspect of it. The character models aren't that in depth in terms of detail, and the cutscenes, all though extremely hilarious/funny, lack in detail and animation as most games on Xbox now a days do not. If this game was a PS2/Gamecube only game, i wouldn't complain so much considering that those systems graphics are much worse then those of the Xbox's. The background animation lacks in detail as well considering that the landscape and where the game takes place is extremely simplistic. The movements of the characters are also very choppy and should have been much more smoothed out for a more "comfortable" gaming experience. Sometimes, i thought that the game was going to freeze up on me because of the extremely slow speed/framerate which is just unexceptable when your talking about a high powered system like the Xbox.

Gameplay- Ahhhh, the best part of this entire game is the gameplay itself. When there are guns that you can use like the "Shark gun" which shoots out a shark that eats people, you cant help but laugh your head off.

No doubt that this game was making fun of real games/movies like Star Wars when theres a small intro on the back of the game reading..

    "A smack-talking rag-tag bad of rebels
bound n an impossible quest. With an areseal
of outrageous weapons, they're destined for
victory in 12,000 bullets or less. If they can
make it through an army of psychotic robots and
wall-smashing Goliaths, they just might save the world...If they don't burn it down first..."

    See what i mean?

The cutscenes are another aspect of this game which make it definetely worth buying. They are beyond hilarious way funnier then even some comedy movies that i've seen; now thats funny!

The controls in Armed and Dangerous are fairly easy to master and don't require much skill, neither does the game thank god. (I hate games now a days that require skill, they end up not even being fun.)

So all in all, the gameplay in Armed and Dangerous is amazing and cannot be forgotten!

Audio- The audio in Armed and Dangerous is another great thing about the game. The voice overs are apsolutely brilliant, the music is great and the sound effects are well done as well. When you listen to it without watching it, you can just tell that its a spoof on a actual battle game!

There is also a downloadable level that you can get off Xbox Live, but there isn't any online/offline multiplayer which is a really big bummer, because i think that they could have had the potential to do that, it would have certainly be possible!

So in conclusion, Armed and Dangerous is recommended for all gamers out there in the world. If you are a hardcore multiplayer fan, then this might not be the game for you, but for everyone else, this is worth your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars aren't many games like this, man, IT'S F***'IN AWSOME!!!
this is un doubtedly one of the GREATEST games around. When I first saw the game I thought it looked pretty bad, so I went to lucasarts.com to learn more about it,after learning some more about it,it looked fairly decent and I bought it a gamestop for a generous price of 8 dollars and was in great condition. Not only does it have great action, but is armed with a excellent sense of humor, this game got a 9-10 from xbox's official magazine and got the game of the week award! this is guarenteed to make your adrenelin pumping and keep you laughing at every cutscene and every remark the characters say.and once you beat it, it's not over yet, repaly the levels to find tokens that unlock new levels, and cheats. The fun never ends!

+ love the pub/ saving system

+ cut scenes has great animation and dailouge

+ 21 action packed adrenelin pumping level

    + rich plot

    + token system

    + great characters

    - the game does end :(

overall 10-10,5-5, 2 thumbs and big toes up , a must buy for any gamer! Get it while it's still in the stores!

i receviced Armed and Dangerous last christmas as one of my gifts from my big brother and its a super game. Armed and Dangerous is a game that is based on a series of missions. In the missions you will have to do tasks like destory stuff with bombs. But theres more to the game than just that. A.A.D. has fanstic graphics. Great Control. Great Anamations. Great cut sceens. You can blow up certion buildings and if there are enemies in windows they will get instictlly die. I find it cool that you can blow up buildings with you gun. You are not alone in the game because the main chachter has 2 friends that join in the action. Overall heres how I rate A.A.D. 300 Stars. Thanks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor SWAT sequel. Not the same standard at all.
Wish I did not buy it because the game is really dull and not as good as the other SWAT series games because they have tagged on some sort of a silly story that is not as dramatic as ANY type of SWAT gameplay that we have done before. The graphics however are good and the control easy to use but the game lacks any serious tone or theme, does not have that many functions (3 guns, 5 types of grenades, some updates for guns earned by tokens after you complete a level and 4 or 5 orders you can give to your team mates [max of two only team mates!]). It plays more like some Arcade game as you move about the levels. It is a serious step back in the wrong direction for the SWAT series. I would recommend renting this before you choose to buy it. It is only just okay but the gameplay value is not there and it misses suspense completely. YAWN.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fans of the PC version may be disappointed!
This is a great game regardless of the fact that it's not as good as it's PC counterpart. You can't command your team to disperse grenades and you only have two team members. They're good for support and when they're required for specific tasks such as picking locks or hacking computer terminals. The AI is mediocre. At times you may order someone to cover a particular area and they'll just stand there watching the bad guys come at you.On Elite(hard) mode, the game starts out very easy and gets progressively harder. You earn points for capturing suspects (alive) which can be difficult at times.Points may be used to upgrade your weapons. This is a little cheesy, but it gives the game some replay value. It's also nice to have a 99 round magazine instead of 30.There are four weapons.Choose either the assault rifle, shotgun, Uzi or sniper rifle. The siper rifle can only be used on certain missions based on the storyline or in multiplayer split screen mode. You have night vision, a gas mask, CS Gas grenades, flash bangs and glowsticks at your disposal. The multiplayer split screen game is fun and has 10 separate missions. You can play all 21 single and 10 multiplayer modes in a time attack mode.As this would suggest, you run the missions on a timer. The graphics and sound are slightly above average.I don't have a communicator but I bet issuing verbal commands through the headset adds a little more realism.Overall a great game at a great price.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Military Enthusiasts, Not Counter-Strike or Unreal Fans
I've always been fascinated with military Spec Ops and the units thereof since I was a kid, and when I read the specifications on Full Spectrum Warrior, I was rather excited to purchase it once it reached the Platinum Hits list.I picked it up and was pleased with several things while disapointed with others.

    I give FSW a 3.8 out of 5.

This is not your typical military game.Up until a few years ago, US gamers were bombarded with so-called tactical games and first-person shooter games like Delta Force, Doom 3, Counter-Strike and Unreal Tourny. While these games are extraordinarily fun to play, they lack in realism to the point where you can run in a room guns'a blazing and survive multiple shots while loading your firearm.

FSW takes that concept and turns it upside down. Now, instead of charging your enemies, you outflank them or you get shot. This concept is very repetative throughout FSW, but the whole point is to teach you how urban close-quarter battler (CQB) works.Veterans of Counter-Strike, Unreal or Doom 3 may not like this game because of its slow gameplay and repetitive gameplay, however, military enthusiasts will appreciate the realism applied to the concept of FSW.So, the pros and cons.

One big downside is the lack of control over the individual units, meaning you cannot shoot their weapons for them unless it's an explosive round. You may, however, set up individual fire zones, which can save you from being flanked. But the lack of control still adds a sense of boredom and frustration as a target could be just ducking and shooting behind a wall and when he pops his head out, your men will probably miss over and over until the tango grenades you.

The graphics, for its time, is very smooth.I loved the details in the weapons and the environment, however, graphics do not make a game. The story is somewhat propaganda in nature since it seems to praise military intervention of dictators, something that not everyone can agree with, however, this does not take anything away from the game but is worth noting.

Other than that, I loved it.I love having to actually think really hard about my every move, the game is not really challenging, but the guys with RPGs make me keep my head down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Full Spectrum Warrior
Full Spectrum Warrior is based on a real-time squad-based strategy game commissioned by the U.S. Army to train light Infantry troops in urban combat situations. Soldiers are placed in a tense, hostile, and claustrophobic environment where they must complete a variety of military objectives. Players act as the Squad Leader, providing direction to Alpha and Bravo fire teams. The successful Squad Leader effectively uses cover in the environment and moves his fire teams in a coordinated fashion so they can protect themselves from possible attacks that could come from any direction. Full Spectrum Warrior puts you in the dirt with your men, where danger lurks around every corner.

Full Spectrum Warrior is an amazing achievement in design, and really, it's an amazingly visionary and original piece of code, full stop. Sure, there is room for improvement, but the game is still top-notch at every level of development and execution, and Pandemic's final product is a beautiful thing to look at, to play, and to compare to anything else in the marketplace.

As a game, it's thorough, deep, compelling, and it gives players something genuinely unique to play alone or with a friend. It could be longer, it could have more modes of play, and it could, nay, should, have an adversarial online ability, but I guess that's why they have sequels. Perhaps it's because Pandemic literally spent two years working on perfecting the camera system so that they couldn't spend more time on multiplayer modes, I don't know. What I do know is that if you own an Xbox and want a daring, awesome game to play this summer, you cannot go wrong with Full Spectrum Warrior

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect cover, perfect mind
First a caveat: I don't play first person shooters as a rule, which means that the finer points of FPS console games are lost to me.I only get to play "Full Spectrum Warrior" when I manage to pry the "Halo 2" disk from the DVD tray where my sons have glued it.My take on the reviews is that many FPS people will generaly be disappointed with this simulation since aiming is approximate at best, and you are mostly directing half-squads, not individuals.Nor do you get to leap into helicopters, tanks or planes at will - you're a grunt in another fictional "splendid little war" in a vaguely-Arabic "failed state."

That being said, "FSW" is an immersive simulation of modern urban combat, but more of an educational (and historical) exercise than a game. What I found fascinating is that it is an embodiment of the Rumsfeld Doctrine as now practiced in Afghanistan and Iraq, with emphasis on light reconnasance units to locate and fix targets for heavier weapons systems to destroy. In "FSW", "light" means really light - anything bigger than the standard grenade launcher must be called in.These guys roam around a fictional south-west Asian city looking for trouble and cover, a scenario I thought was unrealistic until I watched a recent Frontline epsiode which followed several squads actually stationed in Iraq.As far as I could tell, these lightly armed units were, as the teams in "FSW", being used as mobile bullet magnets until the cavalry arrived. However, unlike the real squads in Iraq, I haven't encountered remote improvised explosives or suicide cars, but maybe I haven't reached the right level yet.Likewise, I'm waiting to experience a large mob of mixed irregulars and civilians (with little regard for cover unlike the baddies in FSW) from Black Hawk Down.

The second aspect of the Rumsfeld Doctrine depicted in "FSW" is the high intolerance of Army commanders to casualties. In FSW, one hit can mean one dead GI.Nobody fills up on a medkit randomly lying or floating about in mid-missionA wounded man seriously degrades the speed and ability of the remaining team. Two casualties and you lose.

I enjoyed FSW mostly as a simulation and historical adventure, since my tastes run to the board-game tactical or strategic simulations my FPS-playing sons deride as "little squares" games, or GO.Given the limited weapons systems and somewhat repetitive game play, I can well see how players raised on Halo, Rainbow 6 or Battlefield 1942 will quickly tire of FSW.But hey, for us old timer "newbies", it's alright. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great game,
I remember, hearing about this, so I rented it. I had heard comparisons to Full Spectrum Warrior, which was a lesson in positioning, while this was an FPS that .
If, it's made with the help of Marines, it has to be good. I only wish they put more work into the the graphics of the game in the early part, it looks, too motion-captured, and the voice of the Lance Corporal you play as gets annoying "GONZALEZ!, GONZALEZ!". BUT the moment you enter that urban environment, you get that feeling you could be hit from anywhere from rooves to back-alley corner and, you can. Other than the difficulty born from realistic tradition (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six), clearing rooms is a blast! I played Star Wars Republic Commando, but those guys had personal shields like in HALO, and could be revived at any moment. But when your guys are stacking up to breach a room in Close Combat, you get that feeling like, I hope my guys make it and wipe every guy in the every enemy in the room off the face of this simulated Earth.Usually no-one is left alive in the room. And finally, it's a small detail, I'm happy I can jump into prone! Another memorable moment I remember making a guy drop his weapon, hands on his head, then, the sneaky creep pulls out a pistol. Realism baby, authentic realism.
You can tell MARINES were involved in this, even past it's faults. I have yet to beat this, as work, and other games I have yet to beat.

4-0 out of 5 stars This Game Aint for Weak players.
I think this game is far better than any other squad shooter out ,with exception to Brothers in Arms.I'll admit the squad A.I. is not the greatest. But if you order them CORRECTLY you will not have many problems at all.The enemy A.I. is far superior to your squads or any other game to date. This game gets some bad reviews because its probably too hard for some little kiddies and some novice gamers. This game is WAAAAAYYYYYYY MORE REALISTIC than Full Spectrum Warrior.Who the heck would go into a firefightand just command people with a giant green cursor?? In F.S.W. You just sit back and watch you men do all work.Where is the REALNESS in that? Im so sick of hearing that lame game FSW is better. F.S.W. is soo unrealistic & lame it sickens me.Also WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO WITH A PISTOL AGAINSTA MACHINE GUNNER NEST???? WHY DONT YOU PICK UP THAT DANG RPK OR AK47 & USE IT AGAINST THE ENEMY?? INSTEAD YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT NOT HAVING A PISTOL.There's a saying that goes dont bring a knife to a gun fight.Well dont rely on a pistol against a friggen 75 clip RPK.Not a wise choice. If you pick up the enemies dropped weapons there's plenty of ammo to take out the enemies.DONT GET ME WRONG AINT NOTHIN WRONG WITH A GOOD PISTOL! BUT DONT CRY ABOUT NOT HAVING A PISTOL WHEN THE DEAD ENEMY JUST DROPPED A FULLY LOADED 75 CLIP RPK ,PICK IT UP SOLDIER AND FRIGGEN USE IT BABY BOY!In the real world ,YES ENEMIES WILL SWARM YOU FOR NO APPARENT REASON THATS THERE JOB, TO TAKE YOU OUT.There'ssome seriously intense firefights in this game. They feel more real than the very scripted F.S.W. Not everything in real life is set up to flank at all times .Sometimes you have no choice but to go straight up the friggen middle. This game does a good job of having a ,what I would call a green squad ,where sometimes they will freeze up a little when the shooting gets tense,Im sure this happens to realworld GREEN marines ,albeit a very few though as MARINES ARE SOME OF THE BEST DANG FIGHTERS ON EARTH! This game does a great job a putting you into unfamiliar and adverse situations where everything isnt set up so precise as to just flank here ,use that wall ,or take cover there .Its more realistic feeling to me because there is a sense of intensity and tough fighters who are unpredictable at best. Its not just a cookie cutter type game where it sticks to one simple format flank, suppress, fire. Im sure real world enemies have figured out these common tactics. This game does a good job of putting us in the place of the REAL MARINES. Who are some seriously tough sons a &^%*$#.MY Hats off to youbad @$$es! First To Fight aint for whimps.Go Ahead and cast your negative vote ! Just because you couldnt beat the game on REALISTIC mode dont cry about it fancy pants!! Isnt Fight the pansy flowers with water pistols part 2 out yet? Maybe you should play that instead? If your just the casual gameror a little kid RUN FROM THIS GAME ITS TOO HARD FOR YOU! From alot of the reviewers here from there comments I can tell that they dont know how to play this game and order there squad correctly and they dont know some of the other commands,or they dont know how to issue them. Its not your fault its just F.S.W. spoiled you kiddies!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as tactical as they want you to think.
First of all i am 15 years old (16 in october) not 12,i just don't feel like registering right now.

When i first heard about "First to Fight" and saw the previews and screen-shots i was very exited,as i am an avid tactical shooter fan.

The ads and previews said it was a sqaud based shooter, with a new "phycology" AI (artificial inteligece) system in place to help your sqaud, and enemy OP-FORS act and react more realisticly to the chaos of war.

I thought cool, another ghost recon/rainbow six, one shot one kill, instant death, tactical kind of games.

    NO.

The manual talks about setting up ambushes, use stealth, and breaking the ememy's will to fight.
But is (alost always)imposible to do these things because almost everthing is scripted.

For example:After pain-staikingly clearing out a road full of angry malitia-men,you move on to the target buiding father down the road only to cross an invisible line, triggering a mob of OP-FORS that swarm you from all directions leaving you to fight off the mob by yourself while your stu... uh i mean mentally challenged, team mates (ahem) just stand around and take pot shots like untrainded amnesia ridden fools who have never seen an m-16 in there lives.

Squad commands are almost imposible to coordinate because you have to be able to see an enemy to order supression fire from your team. And while you have your crosshair on the target's head why not just shoot, instead of asking one of you "elite" sqaud members to do it?

On the plus side the Sound is very good.Gun shots are loud and crisp, explotions sound cool, and the music is good.

The controls are decent, very playable and easy to use.
I you push the thumb-stick forward all the way you will walk at a slower pace that allows you to aim better(This is usefull for clearing streets)if you tap the thumbstick forward twice, your charecter will run fast with his gun down, and you will not be able to shoot.

The graphics are bland and empty, there is little imersion in the game. This is 2005,games should be looking better than this,Halo proved that in november of 2001.

    Pros-

    good physics
    great sound design
    decent story
    cool intro
    pick up and play controls
    room takdowns are effective

    Cons-

    Horible AI
    Bland graphics
    No mission list
    heavilly scripted
    all-around,not fun

If you like medal of honor,or shadow ops, then you might want to give this game a rental and just play run and gun without your lame sqaud, for the rest of you i recommend that you steer clear of this one.

    joseph-

Im saving up for an xbox xbox live and counter strike I play it every day every other week on my bros xbox I always ask the host if we could either do scouts and knifes or just knifes thats just so fun that way one time (Im just an beginner so dont make fun of me) I had a scout and i was surrounded by knifers i randomly shot and no scoped head shot got a few head shots that time it was what got me hooked.
counter strike is better on xbox live than halo2 for these
    reasons
    1.more creeps play halo 2
    2.more cussing on halo 2
3.actuall people host maps and can kick any one cussin, killing every teamate at the start of the game, sexuall talking stuff like that.
4.you can complane to x box live to get people booted for up 2 1
    month
    5.levels are bigger
    6. host your own map
7.clans can battle it out on their own custom maps
8.only 2 teams vs. each other
9.have more fun be cause no one can cheat
10.(for both halo 2 and cs) people ussually treat each other the same no matter what age and they all get along easier than real life. for instance i played with a few people on halo 2 on rumple training me and this one gy kept telling chokes having a GREAT time i mean great he won and i complimented him a few times and he asked to be on my buddies list but i hate the fact that i had to say no because it was on my bros xbox sorry sword
(sword was part of his name i hope i will see him again when i got an x box and he will forive me oh well i will miss him im 12.

4-0 out of 5 stars A sound of thunder
As I headed downstairs I noticed that the hostages were gone... Then on top of that I had no teamates left. So it was me my 50 cal sniper and a 9mm pistol that i had 1 clip for.I rushed upstairs to my favorite sniping place and waited. About 1 mintue later out came a counter terrorist followed by 5 hostages. I took aim and fired...MISS!!! He was gettin close to the rescue zone and I had time for 1 last shot. As I took aim to shoot again he made one fatal error. He stoped running and turned around to try and see what was shooting. A second later there was a sound of thunder as my magnum ripped right through his skull winning us the match.

Well, thats the story of a game I played yesterday on my favorite map, Miltia. I havent played the PC version of CS but I can say I LOVE the Xbox version. The graphics could be better, but the gameplay makes up for the graphics. All the guns are real based. Its also a realistic game. If your a Ghost Recon fan, think of CS as Ghost Recon, except its faster paced and its a fsp. Ghost Recon 2 isnt fps, but the 1st to are and all you can see is a targeting reticule. The only con of this game is the graphics. But gameplay makes up for the graphics by a longshot. You can pick what weapon to hold your gun in, and the game even supports custom soundtracks. My gamertag is Notedlemon, add me and ill play with you. Hope you enjoy the game!!
