    Editorial Review

EA's Madden NFL 2003 maintains the series' status as one of the most engaging game franchises ever. This perennial favorite has updated everything from the spanking new venues (including the Seattle Seahawks Stadium) to the ability to now list pre-existing injuries to current players. If you haven't played previous versions, learning all the controls can be a daunting task. You can control everything from calling audibles to throwing a touch or bullet pass--all while the play clock runs down. But half the fun of this game is in the level of detail you can control, including off-season drafts and free-agent signings, game time, weather, and sensitivity to penalties. Madden NFL 2003 has taken video sports gameplay beyond the action on the field--although the gameplay is seamless and the graphics are impressive on the Xbox. They've created a world where you are equally the owner, general manager, coach, and player. The time and attention you must dedicate to creating your team, along with superbly realistic gameplay and sportscasting, immerse you in your team's fate, making the action all the more compelling. --Sung Nicholas Kim

4-0 out of 5 stars Madden NFL 2003
    Madden NFL 2003:
    Are you ready?

I know, I know Madden NFL 2003 sounds a bit boring right. Wrong it's an awesome action packed, fun video game for the Playstation2 consol. This is the ultimate football video game, it has awesome graphics, and sometimes you might even forget it's a video game.

This is an E for everyone video game with a price of only $19.99. You have a lot of choices from pro NFL teams to pro NFL football stars. It also has a wide choice of other things you can do like create your own teams, your own pro NFL stars, and you can go to play now and you can just pick a team and play, there's also a lot more that you can do.

Making pro NFL teams is pretty cool believe it or not, you can name the team, you can create its home football field, and you can also pick its sponsor. Another thing you can do is create a playbook for any team you want to, create formations, create passing or running plays which ever you want.

Overall this game has some disadvantages like:

·Some things are not that realistic as some other football games
·The game can get boring at times

Well then again no game is just right nor not good.

Well overall this game is very cool and full of various things to do. The price is as low as it gets at $19.99, which is very cheap for such a cool game. If you ever get this game I hope you like it and think it's the coolest game you have ever played or maybe just an all right game. Overall this is one of the coolest games I have ever played and I hope you like it if you get it.

4-0 out of 5 stars **OK GAME**
I was truly dissapointed with this game. For one thing the computer defence is unstoppable. For antoher, the gameplay is too slow and that makes running plays both difficult and boring. If you have played other football games(i.e. NFL Blitz Pro) you would find that it is much better because of the fast gameplay. And another thing, making players and teams gets old FAST. I thought two cool features were that you can make a playbook and that you can do mini camps. Despite some entertainment, this game is not worth buying. I suggest you pick your football video game out very carefully before you purchase it. Thanks for reading.

We could say that NBA Street 2 is the shizzle, or the sheezy, or the shizzit, but we won't--even though it is. You'll get enough street talk playing the game. Street 2 is just the best basketball game yet.

Although it is an official NBA product, the fact that it's playground ball liberates Street 2 from the confines of fan reverence. Instead, especially in the "Be a Legend" option, it has a great sense of humor about itself. The boss of each city, once defeated, can be added to the player'sroster--and although they are caricatures, they're fondly and funnily done.

Among the best are Stretch (a dunker from Harlem), Dime (a female ballstealer who resembles the singer Pink) and Osmosis (an Oakland version of "It" player Yao Ming). Our prediction? Kids who see Street 2 will not only want to play the game, they'll want to be street legends themselves when they grow up.

And speaking of kids: parents couldn't find a kid- or teen-friendlier game. There's no adult language, and the color commentary is fantastic. It's much improved from the original game's repetitive "MJ, go on with your bad self"patter. Bobbito Garcia, a real-life streetball announcer, should get a "nice work" bonus. For that matter, so should the ambience-noise guys, who included, for example, a single cellphone ring in the background. Clever.

Those not inclined to love sports games should trust in Street 2--it's visually brilliant, witty, and don't-take-it-away-from-me addictive. True basketball fans should get this game immediately, if not sooner. They'll best appreciate that all the old time players have their moment in the sun; for example, 5,000 points unlocks Dr. J, and a billboard between sets advertises Bill Russell and other pioneers. Classic hip-hop from artists like MC Lyte rounds out the impressive package. Kudos to gamemaker EA Sports Big for taking it to the hole. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the best!
I like this game especially the new gamebraker and the "off the heazy" and the " Back 2 Papa" technique. It was even better with all the street legends: Earvin Johnson, Larry Bird, James Worthy, Isiah Thomas, Clyde Drexler, Moses Malone, Dominique Wilklins, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, David Thompson, Rick Barry, Connie Hawkins, Bill Walton, Julius Erving, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, George Gervin, Pete Maravich, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Bill Russell, and last but not least Michael Jordan. I give this movie a 5 out of 5.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mike D come and rock the sure shot!
Great sports game because it combines the action of basketball with its own sense of fun, irreverence and personality -- the gameplay is amazing, the announcer is hilarious, the hip hop soundtrack is tremendously good, the players and their abilities are precise and unique and the AI serves up plenty of surprises. Plus, you can create your own characters (mine is fat with a huge afro and he dresses like a bum but he's great at long range shots).

I don't play many sports games. They're great and all but I'm more of a GTA devotee - I like shooting, I like driving, I like blowing stuff up.Still, the weekend after someone loaned me their copy of this game, I had to buy it, it was just too much fun, and even a year later continue to pop it in and play away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Above da rim street ball
With all of the NBA basketball games on the market this one will always stand out, not because it gets "technical" with triangle offense and set plays, but break your ankle fakes, mindblowing alley-oops and nasty in your face dunks.
If you want a true street ball game minus the gravity limiting, boring old layups, short jumpers and three pointers NBA Street Vol. 2 is for you. I hear Vol. 3 is in production right now so I can only hope that the folks at EA will only get better when that one comes out. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Dear Peter Jackson and company: Please accept this thank-you for making the last couple of weeks feel like Christmas. Your game The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is such an unbelievable treat that we've been playing it nonstop. Every person who has seen the spectacular graphics agrees: whereas others may have created a crappy movie tie-in game, you folks have made a game that captivates and frustrates us in all the right ways. It was especially nice of you to let us play as either Aragorn, Gimli, or (our favorite) Legolas. Having the actors--including Sir Ian!--voice all the battle cries really makes a huge difference. The first time we got to unlock one of the video extras (an interview with Elijah Wood), we thought, "This is as much fun as eating candy."

We apologize for the rumor that seems to be sweeping game sites--we're not sure how it got started. There's no way to play the game in four hours, unless maybe you set it on "easy," but probably not even then. (We are playing through with all three characters, of course.) Maybe Diablo fans are unimpressed with the skimpy inventory management, but we think that's just nitpicking. But don't think we write fan mail every day! There are some things we would have done differently: while we like movie scenes interspersed with game scenes, we are really tired of watching some of the intro cinematics over and over again. And why can't we trade in some of the skills we bought for new ones? By level 9, we really wished we had bought differently. And what was the deal with the ending--couldn't afford the real actor's voice for the final scene? That seemed distinctly out of character with the rest of the game.

But we love being able to tear into a crowd of Orcs, as well as the nuances of certain timed and more strategic missions. While it may not be a game we play repeatedly once we're done, we'll treasure the fond memories of the time we had together. As with everything associated with LotR, the magic touch for fans is in the details. It's great to look into the stream in Fangorn and pick out the reflection of Treebeard; we wish every game got it the way this one does. Thanks again for your terrific title.

    Best wishes,
    The Amazon.com Video Game Editors

2-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Frodo???
I bought this game because I wanted a tight LORs game for my PS2, I saw that it was a PS greatest hits collection item.I read all the reviews of how great the game play and graphics are. I played expecting a lot and got virtually nothin!!! The gameplay is horrible as well as the graphics. Most of it looks and plays like an old Mortal Combat game, which always sucked!!! I know it's from 2002 and I should realize that games weren't as advanced but I have 1996 Nintendo 64 games that look and play better than this. One thing I liked was the sword control, which uses the JoySticc to swing however you like it to swing, that was good but you cn't destroy enemies unless you memorize a load of dumb combos. The bosses at the level end are great but the levels are weak in 'ry aspect.ALSO Aragon is the only one who is skilled Bloom and that dwarf viking dude really suck. You cannot play as Frodo or Sam or Gandyoth the wizard.THe only level I really enjoyed was a scene from the 1rst film, you are Aragon and you have to fight of those ghosts in black robes on that stone monument with your sword and a torch of fire; that was great! of course for some reason when you beat it you cannot EVER play it again, and it is very short. This game is a waist of money, PS sucked before the year 03 and I recomend only buying new games. Impeach Bush! and don't buy this game unless you really love LOR movies!!!! "Mr. Frodo!!!"-Samwizwegamge the Hobbit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lord of the................. something something.
When I first got this game I was concerned Gimli looks as If his beard Is glued to him legolas looks more like haldir and aragorn looks like a cross between aragorn and well..........aragorn. But the game is better than return of the king. At least th uruk-hai have a lot of strength and the orcs look At least strong. Return of the king I know you get to play as more characters but the game is so DARN easy the orcs dont do that much damage. Legolas is the fast one Gimli is battle type and Aragorn is micschure of both. If you are bored with no game drop what you are doing and get this now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Editorial Review

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance brings the Mortal Kombat series a new 3-D fighting engine, adds tons of features and extras, and still offers up classic gameplay.

This installment features a 3-D battle system that still manages to maintain a 2-D feel. For example, pushing up on your controller makes you sidestep your opponent’s attacks, yet also allows you to jump in the air by tapping up plus a direction. A revamped fighting system offers up three different styles for each fighter (one includes a weapon technique). The multiple styles provide countless varieties of attacks for any given fighter. Different combinations of punches and kicks can be combined for very lengthy and powerful chain attacks similar to those in the Mortal Kombat of old. Fatalities are also back and rich in graphic representation.

New fighters join the cast of old favorites such as Sonya, Kano, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Jax, Cyrax, Kung Lao, Kitana, Quan Chi, Reptile, and Shang Tsung. The lavish environments surround your fighters with animated backgrounds and rich skylines. On some levels there are even breakable objects and hazards that you can interact with, such as pools of acid--the perfect landing place for a thrown opponent.

In addition to regular modes of gameplay (arcade, versus, etc.), there is an option called Konquest mode. This mode allows you to learn more about fighting styles, read up on each character’s personal history, and gain Koins. The koins can then be spent in the Krypt, allowing you to unlock a host of new characters, costumes, and early concept drawings. The plentiful additional content offered with this title includes special movies of The Making of Deadly Alliance and The History of Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance successfully reinvents the series by offering up a unique mix of improved graphics and stylized gameplay without compromising any of the features that made the MK series popular over the years. --Carlos Rodela

3-0 out of 5 stars Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance Should Be Reincarnated
This version of Mortal Kombat is truly disheartening.I bought this game and have played it MAYBE 10 times since I have had it in a year. The graphics and audio are awesome. The story line is trash, and the movements are slightly choppy.I wish this game would have lived up to the previous MK's.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of The Greats
This game is one of my personal favorites. Contains old charactors such as Sonya, Johnny Cage, and Raiden, as well as some new ones. The characters look beautiful and beleveable.you can play as the two main bad guys, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, right from the beginning, and you still have a hard boss. The fatalities look very cool this time. The story line is Quan Chi escaped from the Netherrealm, with the help of Drahmin, into Outworld. He and Shang Tsung form an alliance to resurrect the lost mythological Army of the Dragon King. Raiden then enlists the help of Earthrealms mightiest heros.

There are some baad points. For one, Sub Zero looks totally horrible. It also takes very long to get to Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. Also, If you want to unlock the secret charactors, you need to get over 3000 koins for 1 charactor, except for Frost who only costs about 2-300 koins. Some Koffins are empty. The Fatalities are very hard to do. Other than that it is awsome. This is the only reason it's a 4 star instead of 5 star game.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Mortal Milestone
The Mortal Kombat video game series is an institution among members of Generation X and Y; for over 10 years this game has pushed the limits of not only what is possible with video game systems, but the limits of good taste, as it has been in constant surveilance among this country's moral watchdogs. However MK keeps going strong; and on the 10 year anniversary of the first one, the guys at Midway released the fifth instalment, Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. This release is hugely groundbreaking, not only to the series itself, but to the whole genre of fighting games. It turned Mortal Kombat from a game with basic kicks and punches and some special moves to an ACTUAL fighting game, where all 18 fighters have a three martial arts fighting styles at their disposal; two grounded and one with a weapon. The gameplay is incredible; expanding of MK4's addition of 3-D graphics with fabulously detaliled drawings of the characters as well as the background fighting stages. And speaking of the characters, six of MK 's seven original characters are back(minus Liu Kang; check the storylink) plus some from the prevoius games(Kitana,Jax,Shang Tsung,Kung Lao, Reptile,Cyrax,Quan Chi). My only real problems its that it doesn't mirror the greatness of Mortal Komabt Trilogy; that game had options and variety galore, which this doesn't. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Shut Your Mouth is still making other games silenced
I'm doing this review with owning Shut Your Mouth for over a year now and also having Here Comes The Pain for a year as well. With the new Raw Vs Smackdown game thats coming out, I decided to pop this game back in and play it a week or so ago. I realized how much I never accomplished in this game. Its hard for me to compare it to Know Your Role and Just Bring It since I don't have those games anymore, so I'll compare it to Here Comes The Pain for the heck of it. This game is great as it may not have as many moves or as many different match types as HCTP, but the season mode goes on forever. In HCTP, I easily got all the unlockables completed within maybe 3 seasons (which are not continuous). In Shut Your Mouth, I went through 2 seasons which go year to year and still have yet to come even close to getting 1/4 of the unlockables completed. This game is great to see the likes of DDP, The NWO, and even Shawn Stasiak (I almost forgot about the humor of Planet Stasiak). So get this game as it really does have hours of entertainment value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shut your mouth rocks
This is no doubt the best Smackdown game ever. With better graphics, sound and wrestler stats. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Who Loves Soccer?
This game has tons of action.Anyone who likes playing soccer should buy this game. All my soccer friends and I play this terrific game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still my favorite! ...
For the record, I am reviewing the European version of FIFA 2002, for PS2 (I imagine the european and usa versions are the same quality)

    written on February 12, 2003.

I received this game as a Birthday gift around Christmas, 2001.
It was frustrating to get used to the controls, and losing much of the time. But having progressed to NOW -- I LOVE this game! I have LOVED it for about 6 months. I had some initial trouble getting the database to agree with what I was asking of it (over 50 created players, over 20 created teams, editing existing team names/Player names and flushing out (or transferring) entire groups of players from existing teams, creating over 20 different cups/championships, managing team formations). It took me 4 different memory cards (for all of my tournaments, and database conflicts) ... but now things are smooth as silk!

I can sit around and play my World Cup Final Phase (including the acurate team rosters for all teams from W.C.Final Phase 2002). I created Senegal, and all of its players (+ uniforms, etc...). I updated Holland, and added missing players to other national squads.

Don't get me wrong. I am plenty angry at the database organizational problems I encountered (tell me which programmer I can yell at *hmph*). But, what the heck. It gave me something to problem-solve! And the end result is: Football Playing Bliss!

I have developed everything I want. For the record: FIFA 2003 doesn't even have a creation center and is not able to edit players, neither! FIFA 2002 is my adored game of choice for Football. (I also have "This is Football 2002", "FIFA 2003" and "Red Card 2002". I have played "Pro Evolution Soccer 2" on PS1 several times, I don't like it).

From the reviews listed here, I've noticed that many people (who DIDN'T like fifa 2002) complained that the game is too easy. My suggestion to them is : Alter the difficulty in the options menus!... That's what the options are for! Make the referee strict! Play in the hardest mode! Damn. do it!

Someone complained that the players are too small, and seem too far away. Answer: Change the camera! If you play with the ACTION camera, the players are close, and the action seems real (the faces of the players are even quite clear). Personally, I always play with the TV camera. That is my favorite (I gues it helps to have a 30 inch TV screen, as well).

    That's my 2 cents worth.
    I think this game rules!

I agree with almost everyone (in these reviews) that gave fifa 2002 4 or 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game is rather
That about sums it up.This game is rather.Other FIFA games have been fun, but not as much as this one.I loved FIFA 95 for the Genesis, but this version kicks 95's patootie.I especially like the fact that you can control the keeper from anywhere on the field. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The Sims has much in common with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: There's a great emphasis trial and error, it encourages personalized solutions to problems, and overall success comes down to both balance and timing. Also, like the Tony Hawk games, The Sims is a very addictive game.

Players micromanage the lives of a family of virtual people and influence the outcome of their lives, be it success or something akin to a nervous breakdown. The bestselling PC version of the game has, in recent years, been upgraded with elements like parties, pets, and vacations, but this iteration is closer to the basic formula.

You start the game living with Mom in a one-story suburban house. You are immediately presented with certain life tasks, such as fixing the TV and making lunch, which are aligned with the skills you'll need for the game's main challenge--keeping your sims in balance on eight conflicting categories. For example, eating will have an impact on your sim's hunger rating, but it will also impact his bladder rating. You'll have to make sure that he keeps himself and the house clean, that he sleeps to restore his energy, and that he also has time to keep himself entertained. The free will option lets your sims coast a bit, and you can also save time by stacking tasks together. Time passes at the rate of about one minute per second in the game, but you can fast-forward sim time when you need to, such as when they're sleeping.

The controls are justifiably complex, but adjusting to them is not difficult. You see your sims from an overhead perspective that you can both rotate and zoom. You direct their actions by moving a line cursor to where you want them to go or to what object or person with which you want them to interact.

The game is surprisingly funny. Neglect your sims and they'll shout and wave their arms to get your attention. Allow one's energy to get too low and he or she will likely collapse and sleep right where they were standing. When that happens, Mom is likely to serve them dinner on the floor.

Gamers may find that it takes a while to get the hang of The Sims' style and control scheme. Stick with it and you may find real time fast-forwarding by. --Porter B. Hall

    Pros:

4-0 out of 5 stars A GOOD REMAKE OF THE SIMS ON THE PC.
This game is alot of fun,i never really took notice of The Sims even when my former friend was talking about it alot i just thought of other games until my mum let me get a game, and i wasn`t alowwed to get Driver 3 so i picked up The Sims PLATINUM to see why Callum loved it so much and it was a good deal for £19.99 i loved it.You start with one option at the beginning of the game which is "Get A Life" where you can pick an Adult Male/Female and customise her/his clothes, shoes and hair and al so there personality Attributes. When you start the game it is in a dream Mansion with some woman called Roxy and you have to get in a Chaccuzi with her and then you wake in your mothers house because she wants you to fix the TV,cook the night/day
dinner, breakfast or lunch and to take a loan of her and to get a job.And you complete targets and keep expanding where you live and unlock items to buy.In "Play The Sims" this is the casual part of the game where you can buld your own house and do what you want. This game is a good start of a simulations series and remember the very first game that says the Sims on was actually 1988`s Sim City 1 i think.REVIEW FINNISHED.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok but PC better
When I bought this game, I was expecting it to be like the original pc game. I was surprised to see the game didn't let you play around like the pc but gave you missions to complete. The missions started out small and then get more demanding. The game still keeps to the traditional Sims. I was hoping more from the two-player mode. When I first got this game, I enjoyed playing it but the longer I had it the more boring it got. I thought that it just took to long on some of the missions.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but get the Sims for the Computer instead.
The Sims is a good game. You get to make your own people and try to run their lives so they could be happy.I suggest you get this game for your computer instead. There's so many features they left out of this game. The big one is that you can only do one level of your house instead of two levels like on the computer game.Plus, the graphics are not that good; again, better in the computer game.If you get the computer game, get The Sims Mega Deluxe Pack. That's all I have too say. ...
