Editorial Review

Did you know that painted ladies (the butterflies, that is) taste with their feet and have 10,000 eyes? You and your kids will be fascinated by all you learn about these beautiful creatures with the Butterfly Garden from Insect Lore. The kit comes with a relatively easy-to-assemble observation chamber; supplies for feeding the butterflies (you provide only sugar and water); an informative booklet of clear instructions and butterfly facts; and a certificate for three to five free painted lady caterpillars. The metamorphosis from larva to butterfly takes about three weeks from when you receive the caterpillar larvae (which arrive in a small container with all the nutrients they need). Your children can watch the larvae increase dramatically in size, form chrysalides, and finally emerge into full-fledged painted ladies (it's suggested that they release the butterflies after a few days of observation). This would make a wonderfulactivity for families with kids of any age, but younger children will need help assembling the observationchamber and reading the instruction booklet. (Note: The manufacturer recommends that butterflies should not be set free in temperatures lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit.) --Rachel Radway ... Read more

I purchased this for my 7 year old daughter for christmas. I was guarenteed 3 live larve. They are all dead and I can not get ahold of the company. I would rate this a big Zero

5-0 out of 5 stars Butterfly Garden
My sister gave this to my 8 year old daughter for her birthday.I also have a 4 year old daughter. This is one of the best gifts my children have ever received! From the start, both of my children were enthralled with the metamorposis from caterpillar to butterfly. The bonus is that there is very little that is required of parents except to make sure the instructions are followed. The caterpillars come in a plastic container that has all the food they require to grow and change.Even though one of the chrysalides fell off the paper disc under the lid, it still was able to continue metamorphosis at the bottom of the butterfly observatory. We just released our three beautiful painted lady butterflies yesterday after three weeks of wonder and excitement.Luckily my daughter's birthday is in July so we could release our butterflies when the weather is warm and the flowers are in full bloom.I recommend that you keep your butterflies safe in their observation chamber for at least two days. Two butterflies emerged before the third one did and I was afraid they weren't eating the food I provided (sugar water). Not wanting the first two to starve, I had my daughters release all of them less than a day after the third butterfly emerged. That third butterfly didn't seem ready to fly off yet and stayed in the garden on a post unmoving for a long while. I watched it to make sure it was unharmed and breathed a sigh of relief when it finally flew off.I couldn't have asked for a more fun and educational gift!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I purchased this for my daughter's 4th birthday. The caterpillars arrived on her birthday, which she loved even more. They are now in chrysalide form and she is so excited because she can see them grow and grow every day. This is an awesome toy and have reccomended it to everyone with and with out kids. I also bought a book called "From Caterpillar to Butterfly" and it describes the metaphorsis excellently to her. 2 thumbs up. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The 21st Century of Lazer Tag
Whoops forgot to log in :(
Hi, I have loved lazer tag guns and Lazer Tag Team Ops (will calll ltto later) is the best ive seen. It's like how much Mike Jordan vs a 2 year old in basketball win. Now, nerf fans out there ( im still a VERY big 1 :)) but this thing compared to it: DROP NERF!!!!! This gun may seem very complicated, but for those people that dont wanna read the manual, here are the steps:
1: turn on the device.
2: select LTAG on the menu.
3: learn to shoot and reload and ur good to go!
I SERIESLY RECOMEND READING THE MANUAL!!!! This thing, like I said, may be complicated, but give a good 10-20 min to the manual, and u will be ready in no time!

Ok your probably saying, I cant hit crap! Well, i found the solution: BUY THE SCOPE AND THUNDER PACK SET! the scope dosn't zoom in, but really helps. U will be really lucky without the scope to hit a target 75ft+ STANDING STILL WITHOUT THE SCOPE!!! With the scope, easly hit 200ft moving. Now, thats worth it for 10$ extra! Now, since that I only have 1 scope and play 1-on-1s, the person with the scope wins, but I still dish out 4-5 without it( most people dont do as good as me, rarely hit me without it :)) Note: the scope is usless if ur playing indoors in a small room. Ok, ill write a review for da scope l8tr. Now this gun(by estimating) goes a WILD 350ft+!! Most guns have a limited range of 150-200ft. those old areanes for lazertag will soon be deserted- theres a new gun in town-LTTO!!!!!

P.S: Havn't tried the LX-31 (whatever the pistol is called), so dont know if its better. Also, don't buy the camo gun- just paint ur own gun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Record & Play is a nice set
I have a ton of LEGOs, including a Mindstorm and a Spybot, so what's different about the Record & Play? The core of this set is the brick with two motors with integrated rotation sensors.Push the red button and push the robot through it's moves (up to 20 seconds). Then hit the green button to play it back.It plays back fairly accurately, although it is a bit jerky (it doesn't play the motors slow, but short bursts of fast). As a bonus, the tail end of the brick has a shaft input that does the same thing as pressing the play button every time the axle turns. This is useful for building something that has the motor block hidden inside, making the buttons hard to reach, or for making the 'bot respond to some stimulus (My next plan is for a passing LEGO train to flip a lever, causing the shaft to turn, which will trigger the playback to lower and then raise the crossing gates). There is an on-off switch on the bottom, and the robot will remember it's programming even when turned off, as well as an auto-shutoff if left alone for 10 minutes to save batteries.
Normal play mode runs through the actions once and stops.Hold down the play button for a couple seconds and it switches to mode 2, which repeatedly plays the commands forwards and backwards.Pretty cool.Do it again to get into mode 3, which repeatedly plays the commands forwards. This is very handy too.
The 192-page book shows how to build five models: a bug that hops along on two wheels and 2 legs, a dog with 3 wheels, a pen plotter, a 4 legged crab with claws, a standing-up walking robot, and a drummer.Much briefer instruction are shown for a dune buggy, a catamaran walking bug thing, tractor, a grabber, a block thrower, and a card dealer (and probably a few more).
The other pieces included in the set are fairly standard, a nice mix between Technic and standard bricks in pleasing tan and greens (lime and forest). The only really new piece is a right angle 1:1 gear box.Two are included in the set.
I like the fact that there is no real programming involved, no computer required, and it is very quick to get the bot moving. The kit has LEGO's usual excellent quality throughout. ... Read more

The ProMedia 2.1 THX-Certified, three-piece computer audio system from Klipsch transforms your desktop into a high-performance audio entertainment center. Two 35-watt satellite speakers deliver full-bodied stereo sound, while a floor-thumping 130-watt subwoofer provides low-end slam from your favorite music, games, and movies, reaching down to an impressive 31 Hz.

The satellites' exclusive Klipsch MicroTractrix horn maximizes clarity and high-frequency dispersion from CDs, MP3s, streaming radio programs, and other audio. The high-output, digital-hybrid-amplifier-driven ProMedia 2.1 offers a convenient headphone jack and dual stereo analog inputs, one for a more or less hard-wired connection from your computer's line or headphone output jack, the second to accommodate a portable audio device such as an MP3 or minidisc player/recorder.

Klipsch operates with a philosophy that demands accuracy in every aspect of sound reproduction, which--in the case of the ProMedia 2.1--has resulted in THX Certification. THX is an exclusive set of standards established by the world-renowned film production company, Lucasfilm Ltd., and products undergo rigorous quality and performance tests in order to receive this certification.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing sound quality
I have had many different sets of Computer Speakers for many different computers. I am using these with my laptop, when I am at home. I am a serious audiophile, who like just about every kind of music you can imagine... needless to say I wanted a set of speakers that would sound great, not kill my pocketbook and be reasonable when it comes to space management. All I can say is that having never bought Klipsch before I didnt know what to expect, I had heard good things but I wasn't sure. If you are feeling like me, trust me they are AMAZING.

Right out of the box it took me less that 5 minutes to set them up get them plugged in and ready to go. I started out listening to some Alternatve (Smashing Pumpkins) and thought WOW these sound really good. I threw in some Rap and Hip Hop and I was even more blown away. I threw some Trance and just sad staring at my screen. For two satellite speakers and a sub, I was blown away with how clear the sound was, how loud it could get, and the fact that there was no distortion at higher volumes, while retaining the ability to distinguish different instruments/sounds.

After reading another review, I would agree that this system is not for those with very thin walls (at least if you want to be considerate). While you can play music at lower volumes and the quality is just as good as it will be at the higher volumes, the bass does tend to travel.

Pros: Price (compared to the Bose system that runs $250, or other systems that run between $200-$500 this system is as good for less money. Headphone and Audio input on Left speaker great, dont have to swap out the speakers to throw on headphones and the abilty to use on MP3 players is great. THX Certification... really speaks for itself, these speakers are top quality and are endorsed by one of the most stringent testers out there.

Cons: No remote or controller. (Its not that bad because there are the controls for the Sub and Main speakers on one of the satellites (for me thats the left).Power off on the sub, mentioned before not that bad but its a little bit of a nuisance.

Overall, I would say that this is a great value and I highly recommend this speaker system to anyone who loves music and looks for high quality sound.

Cheers

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost Audiophile
I was able to pack away my stereo system after hooking up this set.The music is accurate. For example, I was able to clearly distinguish the bass drum from the stand up bass without any trouble (The CD I used was Apostolic Polyphony). That is pretty rare for a bass reflex system.Prepare to be surprised.

1-0 out of 5 stars Satellite DOA
Sounds like this system might have been alright, but it's hard to tell a good stereo when you only hear out of one of the channels. The other satellite speaker is completely dead, right out of the box. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good if you like gunning games.
This game is good but it just doesn't cut it following up in Halo's wake. Less intense than Halo but the levels are basicly repetetive after the first. Plus, being able to revive your soldiers makes it a lot less challenging. Still, it is pretty fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please wake me up... I fell asleep
This game was cool through the first level, but every level after that was almost identical. The weapons set seamed very weak, I felt like I was shooting a pea shooter the whole game. I also spent way too much time "Retrieving Bacta" (health for the squad) this game really seams two years behind in game play and definitely didn't live up to the hype. The squad control was OK but there is very little strategy when commanding them. The blue highlights around Snipe or Anti-Armor locations scream put a guy here, again eliminating any strategy. Buy the way "XBOX Live" game play is horrible, I will be trading this game in tomorrow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robosapien Rocks!
I love this robot, in fact I bought two regular Robosapiens and one mini Robosapien. It has a ton of personality, great sounds, and most importantly, it's funny as hell. There are over 67 different moves it can make.It actually walks and turns quite well, and runs for a long time on one set of batteries, which much longer than other robot toys I have.

In addition, there are tons of modifications out there that you can try, to enhance the Robot.Just search Google or Amazon's A9 for "Robosapien Hacks".There are also great free programs that you can use to greatly extend the "play life" of this little guy.

My personal favorite is a free open source program on SourceForge that let's you control him with your voice, and easily create complex scripts to make him do all sorts of wonderful thing. It's great for impressing your friends or making your own robot movies.Unfortunately you need a Windows computer and an infrared transmitter to run the program, but you can get the transmitter for cheap and most of us already have a Windows computer.

Just go to SourceForge and search for "Robosapien".It's called the Robosapien Dance Machine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining for a short time
I had higher expectations but this was for my son in the first place, I'm not sure he shares my expectations but the robot isn't getting much use so that may say something in itself.

The fluid motion is actually kind-of cool to watch, atleast for a short time.

He can't grab anything but the cup without a lot of trial and error and the objects have to be at his side in just the right place. I was under a false assumption that you could literally make incremental movements like moving the arm and hand to just the right spot then grab etc. you can't, you have a button for "pick up" and that's one motion targeting the pickup to one particular spot - the ankle area.

he looks like he's going to fall down when he walks, he doesn't it's part of the motion, sort-of an overdramatic swagger which is fun for awhile.

He throws things interestingly, that's providing you can get something picked up.

The controls are complicated but with a little time you can make sense of them.

The programing of multiple tasks aren't saveable. you loose them once you shut him off.

So this device is relegated to crashing through blocks while pretending it's doing more things. For the money I don't believe it's all that it's cracked up to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars do not buy

Editorial Review

Though it looks like a toy, don't be fooled: the Nintendo GameCube is a powerful video game console that rightly deserves its place among the other next-generation game systems. In fact, its playful, appealing design and small size (the unit is a not-quite-cubed 6 inches) aren't the only features that set it apart from the others.

For starters, Nintendo has quite clearly made this a game-only machine. It doesn't try to play your CD collection, run your movies, read your e-mail, or store your MP3 files. The company has concentrated its efforts on games. All the prelaunch titles we've seen play smoothly, with bright, fast graphics and great sound. Nintendo says its engineers have removed traditional bottlenecks that have, in the past, slowed down processing. New components designed by IBM and MoSys, as well as a large-capacity secondary memory cache, keep instructions moving through the system's microprocessor (MPU) at peak levels. In English: the GameCube is optimized to push speed up while pushing costs down; hence its position at the lower end of the price spectrum.

The GameCube is the first Nintendo video game system to use a disc-based medium rather than cartridges for its games. Moving the software to disc media generally means lower development costs for the publishers, which, in turn, trickles down to the consumer not only in price, but also in availability and quality, as it's then easier to try out untested game ideas (Pikmin, anyone?). While most other systems likewise have their games stored on discs, the GameCube's 3-inch format is smaller than everyone else's, and is so designed to fit in a shirt pocket as much as to deter would-be software pirates.

Of course, the main advantage of the GameCube is that it's the home field of one of the world's premier game designers: Nintendo. While powerhouses Electronic Arts and Sega make games for all systems (including this one), you can play Nintendo games only on a Nintendo system. And Nintendo, you might recall, has been hitting them out of the park since it started with Donkey Kong. In fact, here's a roll call of characters and series you won't find on the other consoles: Mario, Legend of Zelda, Perfect Dark, Metroid, Kirby, and, of course, Pokémon. A few names that the GameCube will share with the other guys: Madden, Tony Hawk, Sonic, Batman, and Star Wars.

The system also comes with four built-in controller ports, so you can easily plug in extra controllers and let friends join in for the multiplayer games--it's even got a built-in handle so you can easily move it to a friend's house. It comes with two memory card slots for saving your progress through games, and there's the capacity for future expansion into the world of online gaming.

In short, the GameCube isn't an all-in-one entertainment system, and neither is it the most powerful of the modern video game consoles. But for video game enthusiasts who want to stick with their favorite characters, its value cannot be beat. --Porter B. Hall

1-0 out of 5 stars Have it ...DEAD
Two words IT (...). Nintendo revolution comin in 2006 cant wait for the systems controller A controll stick and and one big DUB button...NOT!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst gaming console out of Xbox, PS2, and this one.
Let me just start this review by saying that i used to be a huge fan of nintendo. Its games were great and beyond addicting, the graphics were pretty good CONSIDERING the gaming systems back then and overall it was just a wonderful system. I also used to have all of the portable systems to including gameboy advance, sp, color and the normal gameboy.

When gamecube came out, all of this changed.

If you go to the stores you will see that this system is much cheaper then the rest of the systems, over $50 cheaper, (therefore making it a worse system then PS2 and Xbox.) If you look at the controllers you will see that they are horrible gimicks. It looks like someone has taken all of the buttons and placed them randomly around the surface of the controller. Also, the size of the buttons are completely "messed up." The "A" button is twice the size as any other button on the controller. The "B" button is smaller then the xbox's "black" button. The "y" and "x" button are just long strips that look retarded, and overall the controller just looks like its from another planet and is extremely confusing when you are trying to play a game, unless you are used to it. The only pro i give this controller is that its extremely comfortable unlike the Xbox and PS2 controller, but thats nothing to brag about Xbox's and PS2's controller makes more sense and are way better then this "hunk of junk."
The gamesystem itself is actually ok. Its quite small unlike the other up to date systems, just a small cube, (hints the name "gamecube") making it very portable and easy to travel with if you want to bring it to your friends/family's house to play. Xbox's and PS2's are much harder to do this, considering they're size is much bigger then nintendo gamecube's size.

Now on to the games. The games are actually "ok." They are obviously geared more towards kids considering that 75% of their games are rated "E" for everyone. Now this doesn't mean that the games are bad. Gamecube does have some great games such as Mario Kart Double Dash, Metroid Prime Echoes and Resident Evil, which are all very fun and challenging games to play.

The graphics for this system are ok, they're not bad, but they're not great. Considering the mind blowing graphics on Xbox, Gamecube doesn't even come close to this, and i think that if they are going to come out with a gamecube #2, they need to rethink how good and accurate the graphics will be in comparisn to the other systems that are coming out around the same time as the sequel is to gamecube. The only problem with the graphics on the gamecube is that its very colorful and adds more of a "kid" like theme to it, most of gamers are over 13 and prefer Xbox and PS2.

The sound on the Gamecube obviousely depends on the game, but is usually pretty average. Its ok, but once again, its nowhere near how good it could be if nintendo put some more time into making this sytem.

More problems with the gamecube are that you are not able to upload music onto it from CD's like you are on the Xbox. There is also no online capability like their is on Xbox and PS2 which is an extremely fun experience playing with other people online but once again, Gamecube fails to add another great feature into its poor system. You are also not able to watch DVD's like you are on the PS2 and Xbox which is another wonderful feature if you don't have a DVD Player, but most people do now-a-days. Another one of my few pros that i give gamecube is its extremely quick speed in both loading and gameplay. You hardly have to wait anything for it to load, and when your actually playing, the speed is rather impressive, might even be as good as Xbox, definetely faster then PS2.

Overall i think that Gamecube was extremely rushed in terms of time so that it could come out around the same time as Xbox, (PS2 was made over 1 year before both of these systems came out) therefore was nowhere near as powerful and fun as the Xbox console. It is very obvious that Nintendo is definetely geared towards younger kids, but the fact is, is that most of the gamers now-a-days are definetely over thirteen and are playing more of the "adult" games. I think that if Nintendo had put some more time into creating this system, it could have been way bettter then it is now. Thats some advice for you guys nintendo for when you make your sequel to gamecube!

Graphics: Pretty average graphics, nowhere near as good as Xbox and PS2's graphics though.

Speed: Very fast, one of the few pros for gamecube is how quick it is in terms of gameplay and loading time.

Gameplay: Ok, not great, but definetely not bad. Not as fun gameplay as PS2 and Xbox. (In my opinion.)

Online: No online capabilities for the gamecube which is a huge downfall, perhaps one of the reasons why nintendo is quickly slipping in economy.

Editorial Review

It's still hard to get a triple word score, the tiles are still made of wood, there's only one "X" in the whole box, and family feuds are increasing exponentially. But after 50 years, Scrabble has had a face-lift: a swivel base allows the board to turn so players don't have to work upside down, a plastic grid helps keep tiles in line, and a handy bag stores the letters when they're not in use. The premise hasn't changed at all--two to four players battle it out to make high-scoring words from seven little letters--so choose a dictionary before play begins to avoid ugly confrontations. --Lynne Sampson ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Deluxe not like the old Deluxe
I purchased the new deluxe Scrabble game for my sister in January and was terribly disappointed in how it was made.We both love to challenge each other in Scrabble matches when we are together and her game really needed to be replaced.I was embarrassed at how cheaply the new game is.For the wonderful game that it is, I do believe they could have made a much better version of the turntable model for the price I had to pay for it.Hope they will improve it soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fun for those who love words and word play...
This along with the official scrabble dictionary is the perfect gift for those who love scrabble. It has a TURNTABLE, that is all I need to say.The turntable makes this so much more enjoyable as it is so easy to manuever it to view it straight on in front of you. I wish the game were a bit more substantial but it is a vast improvement over a traditional set because of the turntable as you just store everything in the base.

5-0 out of 5 stars The King Of Iron Tournament 5
When Hon-Maru is destroyed, Somebody starts The King Of Iron Tournament 5. We all really like games like Tekken 5, But some play GameCube, XBox... Tekken 5 is the latest game or tournament. The characters in Tekken 5 are Nina, Anna, Baek, Xiayou, King, Marduk, Lee, Julia, Ganryu, Christie, Kzuya, Heihachi, Jin, Devil Jin, Mokujin, Wang, Kuma, Panda, Roger Junior, Bruce, Raven, Feng, Asuka, Paul, Law....

The Story Battle is the most exciting game. It tells why these characters enter the Tournament 5. After you defeat, Jinpachi mishima, Heihachi's father, you unlock one of the character's movie. You also earn Fight Money to Cosdtumize your characters.

The Arcade Battle is where the Ranking Matches and Demotion Riskes occurs. All you need to do is fight, fight.... I already became a Tekken Lord by using Nina Williams. Before you will be a Tekken Lord, you have to be promoted to 9th kyu, 8th kyu, 7th kyu, 6th kyu, 5th kyu, 4th kyu, 3rd kyu, 2nd kyu, 1st kyu, 1st dan, 2nd dan, 3rd dan, 4th dan, 5th dan, Shihan, Expert, Master, Virtuoso, Champion, Legend, Sage, Warlord, Conqueror, Deity and Tekken Lord. Very long right?. By the way, You can make your player name.

The Practice Mode is where you do your moves, I always use Nina. They have 3 choices. Defense Training, Vs. CPU, Freestyle.

The game is so perfect. Please buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars You should buy
This in every way can be better than the other four. The fighting is better and the character custimazaion is good but not as good as virtua fighter. The characters are all better. There are some strange ones but that dosent matter it's still fun. Also the story is much better. But the boss is extremely diffucult and he is very cheap. But that hust takes a little practise to gt by. Also it adds acade history which fetures the first 3 tekkens. It is a very cool feature. And than Devi wiithin which is sorta like the privious Tekken force modes but it is its own story.

So if you are like me and a huge fan of everything Tekken this will be a great piece to your collection it is worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Replayable Games of Recent Years
Mario Kart Double Dash!! is one of the most phenomenal video games ever made; a game that makes me fondly remember what video games used to be.
Firstly, for Mario Kart veterans (who I am sure have already picked this game up), this is the most unique game in the series. Two racers now occupy each car.The racer in front steers while the character in back handles weapons and attacks (you can punch nearby players now and steal their weapons). If you play single-player, you control both characters, stearing and firing weapons, while a single tap of the 'Z' button will switch character positions. This comes in handy, since each character can carry a weapon, while only the character in back can use them. So, if the driver has a banana or a shell you want to fire, and the character in back has nothing, tap 'Z' and switch positions in an instant, without slowing down your car at all.
Because of the two-character mechanic, there are now two types of weapon boxes that you drive through to recieve your weapon: single boxes give only the character in the back of the car a weapon - so if the charcater in back is already carrying one, switch the charcater's positions when you drive through a single weapon box so that both your racers will now carry a weapon.Double weapon boxes give each racer on the kart a weapon, (if one charcater is already carrying one, the other racer will recieve a weapon regardless). In single-player, if both characters have a weapon, and the one in back fires theirs, the characters automatically switch positions on the car, so the character with the remaining weapon is instantly ready to fire.
In multi-player, you have a few options. Each player can control their own car and both characters on it, or you can each pick one character to race on the same car.If you choose the latter, both players will have to push 'Z' simultaneosly to switch positions on the car.So, if one player prefers driving, and the other prefers handling the weapons, you can stay that way the entire race, since the characters will not automatically switch positions (instead, the player in front can tap the fire button to toss his weapon to the player in back when they are empty-handed).Multiplayer is incredibly addicting; especially (surprise) in battle mode, which makes a welcome return. For players used to ballon battle from Mario Kart 64, the levels in Double Dash will seem small at first (though you can unlock a few more, one of which is bigger), but give balloon battle a chance. It is incredibly addictive, and nothing is more satisfying than hitting your opponent with an expertly timed shot of a green shell from across a level.(There are also two new battle modes this time around, but I found balloon battle to be the most enjoyable.)
One thing that surprised me was the game's difficulty. The learning curve is perfect, with three difficulty levels as usual, 50cc, 100 cc and 150cc racing modes. But for a Nintendo game, 150cc proved fairly difficult, which was a welcome challenge.Computer opponents are smart on 150cc mode, but make similar mistakes to the ones you'll find yourself making. They win races not by cheating (like in other games), but by firing weapons at strategic moments in the race, or using power slides around turns (do it correctly and you'll get a mini speedy boost at the end of the power slide). So, regardless of how far ahead you may be on 150cc mode, one simple error can prove devestating. On the flip side, if you are behind, one great, well timed shot can be all you need to take the lead. The gameplay is expertly balanced, and there is even strategy involved now in selecting your team and your car, since different players and cars have varying weights and pros and cons.Plus, each character has a unique special weapon.
In addition, the course design, as usual in the Mario Kart series, is flawless.Every course is unique, and you'll develop strategies for approaching each one. Moreover, the graphics are sharp, bright and colorful. Each course and each character has their own personality.
The replay value is infinite. There are plenty of unlockables in single-player, inlcuding new characters, courses (racing and battle), cars, and game modes.Once everything is unlocked, multiplayer alone will keep you coming back for more, not to mention besting your best course times in time trial mode.
This game is a great reminder of what used to make games great - gameplay and replayability, not graphics, physics or online modes. This is a brilliantly crafted game, a game that will appeal to all ages, both genders, gamers and non-gamers alike.
A true classic!

1-0 out of 5 stars You will be not be influential
In virtually every game I have ever played, from the Atari 2600 onward, the player was at the center of attention. In this game, that is by no means the case. You will be one of approximately 200 players on the battlefield (which is a chaotic mess) with no special abilities (beyond being a pilot or sharpshooter, etc...). Depending slightly upon the settings, you can very well win a specific battle without ever leaving the safety of your bases. That should tell you just how important you (the player) is. I bought the game based upon it's rating here at Amazon and with the "Star Wars" name, but it is not to be compared with other games of the the same genre. RENT IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars great game
This is a wonderful game for children and adults.I introduced it to my adolescent special education class and to their delight they were competitive with peers and adults.Thisis because it challenges visual and spatial parts of the brain.
It fits instructional objectsfor sustained attention, pattern recognition and spatial discrimination. No two games are alike. The students love the web site (...)where they play against the computer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple to Learn and FUN!
My son (9 years old) saw this at the "teacher's store" by us and it's always sold out so he had to wait to get it. Boy was it worth the wait!He loves it! And we love it!All of his friends play and it's so easy to learn. The better you get at it, the more challenging the game.I'd recommend this to anyone! It's not a game that will sit on the shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Educational Game for the Family
My 5 year old son received this game as a present from my sister.I also have a 6 1/2 year old son.The two of them put down their gameboys and played this game with us over and over for two hours. We've had the game for a week now and they are still asking to play. It's a great introduction to building strategies and using their spacial abilities. The rules are simple and the game itself goes fairly quickly which is great since my kids have a hard time sitting still for long.If I had seen this at the store I probably would never have considered it, but I would recommend it to everyone now that we have played it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to look at, not to run around with
Quick notes -- I put this together for my 6-year-old. It's the first time I've done a new-fangled Lego set, and it took me about 3 or 4 hours. The trouble is hunting for that elusive, single, specific piece, since all the pieces are grouped indiscriminately in little baggies (note to self -- use a huge table and spread the pieces out). The thing is really cool looking, but don't expect your kid to be able to run around "flying" it -- it's too fragile. Altogether a very cool toy, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars hours of fun
My parents bought this toy for my 6 year old for Christmas. It took us 2-3 hours to build, mainly because Lego does not organize the pieces in any logical fashion. This toy is much different from the legos that I built as a kid, it has tons of specialized individual pieces, and is more like building a model than a traditional Lego toy.In fact, my son has a couple of these Star Wars lego toys and once we built them we put them up on the shelf in his room for display.

Lego makes it easy for kids to put these together. The instructions are actually very nice. The age range is 9-up but my kid is 6 and he was able to read and understand the directions (I just sit and make sure that he puts the pieces together tightly).

Once assembled, I wouldn't recommend playing with it as the Lego joints can't handle twisting force very well and some joints fall apart no matter how tightly you put them together.

The only part of the model I found poor, was the entrance platform: no matter how tightly you secure the pieces, opening the door more than a couple times pulls the piston away from the connecting piece.Easily fixed, but this part of the design could have been better.

4-0 out of 5 stars "You hear me, baby? Hold together!"
Sigh... it's toys like this that make me wish I was born twenty years later than I was. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the space-theme Lego sets I used to collect and play with when I was but a wee 'Norch. But these "Star Wars" Lego toys are a whole shelf above those old-school space sets of yesteryear. A good case in point is the Millennium Falcon, which I got for Christmas from an out-of-touch aunt who apparently still thinks I'm ten years old. Well, maybe she ain't so out-of-touch, 'cuz most of the people who know me would agree that I have the maturity of a ten-year-old, with a sense of humor to match...

...but I digress. Anyhoo, I was considerin' exchanging this thing at the local brick-&-mortar Toys 'R' Us for a few new plug-&-play TV Games consoles when I just said "the #ell with it". So I opened this bad-boy up, laid all the pieces out on the floor, and turned on my VCR. Then I broke out my widescreen Star Wars trilogy tapes (I'm talkin' `bout the ORIGINAL movies (available at www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6303617700/qid=1104468809/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/104-0488135-0118334?v=glance&s=video ), NOT those silly "Special Edition" versions where Greedo shoots first), popped "A New Hope" into the player, cracked open the building instructions, and went to town while the movie played.

I finished up the whole schmear `round the time the Millenium Falcon was blastin' outta the Rebel hangar on Hoth in "Empire". Which was kinda fittin', `cuz the last thing I put together was the snowtrooper cannon, which had a pretty good resemblance to the one that was firin' at the Falcon in the scene. But the little trooper is nothin' compared to the main event, which is both a neat display model AND a cool playset for the Han Solo, Leia, C-3PO, and Chewie mini-figures it comes with. The ship opens up in a neat manner: the top hull panels open outward (sorta like a reverse aperture/bloomin' sunflower sorta deal) to reveal the interior, which includes an engine room (complete with tools ), the game-board room, gang plank, and a little stowaway space at the bow which holds a container box with some sorta scope-looking thing in it. And no, I have no clue what its purpose is, save for makin' me wonder what the heck its purpose is. Oh yes, there's also the hood-holder peg (don't ask).

Also making up the interior is the upper gun pod to help your gallant heroes pick off those pesky TIE fighters after makin' the big break from the Death Star. And let us not forget the rather cramped cockpit, which isn't quite as roomy as the "real" one was. Come to think of it, the entire Lego ship isn't quite as roomy as its cinematic counterpart. But at least it's more to scale with its figures than the Hasbro Millennium Falcon action figure playset is to its dollies...

This little booger (well, actually his thing's about a foot-and-a-half long fully assembled, which is pretty big for a Lego toy) also has a few neat features like a drop-down gangplank and escape pod. Unfortunately, the part of the gangplank pull-switch (AKA that knob-lookin' thing on the right-- er, starboard side of the vessel behind the cockpit) that connects to the plank itself often pops loose, which can be pretty frustrating when yer tryin' to re-enact the scene where the stormtroopers are searchin' the ship on the Death Star. Which leads to my big gripe about Legos: they don't stick together quite as snugly as Mega Bloks and Best-Lock blocks do. Its seems like no matter how carefully I move this thing about, there's always a piece or two that doesn't wanna hang onto the rest of the ship during the trip. Kinda makes ya see the irony in that Han Solo line "You hear me, baby? Hold together!" doesn't it? Eh, maybe not...

On the upside, it is kinda cool how this blows apart into a zillion pieces when I collide it into the TIE Bomber Lego ship I got from auntie last year, and then try to reassemble `em using my burgeoning "force" powers! Sadly, the whole "reassembling-the-Legos-using-the-force" thing hasn't been workin' out for me lately. Guess I gotta work on gettin' my midi-chlorian levels up to par, hmm?

`Late ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My 9 year old son LOVES these toys!!!
I ran into Toys R Us on Christmas Eve last year to find another toy for my son (I wanted him to have a certain amount) and saw these on an end display. I bought a box, wrapped it, and put it under the tree.
He absolutely LOVED playing with these. So did his siblings. They spent hours and hours for weeks making all kinds of cool concoctions. We have since added several more sets to our family.
I came here today to buy a set for a birthday this weekend for a 13 year old family friend who still enjoys building things.
Great toy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest online invention ever to hit consoles!!!!!!!!!!
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen. Xbox live is a great way to take your gaming online because it works with numerous amounts of games and is something you can never get bored with. A little too much, but every penny is worth it. The new revolutionary way of communicating over the internet is phenomenal. People actually talking into a headset together while they are playing.

More features about xbox live is the fact you can create a gamers tag, which is just any silly name that pops into your head with also an optional voice sensor. This allows your voice to sound anything you want it to. It is the coolest and funniest thing alive.

The people online are very friendly and helpful, but sometimes you get those people who do not give a dang about rookies. People who just bought this item; stay absolutely away from Halo 2 for right now. The people in the multiplayer matches will slaughter you in seconds. Take it from me. One minute the enemy is vanished and the next minute they are wacking you over the head with their gun.

You have the choice of a yearly renewal or monthly. Im not sure how much the monthly is, but the yearly is fiftly bucks, which is well worth it.

There is only one slight problem with xbox live. If you do not have internet connection from the room you are playing in, then it may become costly. You would have to get a game adapter, a wireless modem, and a bunch of other connections. This alone boosts the price up to somewhere you cannot afford.

All in all, this product is fabulous and recommend it to people who feel lonely playing with AI all the time. Isn't time for another challenge. Maybe someone that is actually real and can be more of a challenge.

You decide.

5-0 out of 5 stars This RULES but bundle with a new game already, PLEASE!
Before I get to all the good stuff. It would be nice if XBOX bundled with a different game already!!!We all have that game, we all need another headset, we all need to renew. So bundle with a new game!(I realize this needs to be said to XBOX not Amazon, but they probably read these reviews.)

XBOX Live is the greatest thing that ever happened to video games! You will find your self not even finishing games because online play is so much fun and addicting. No matter how sophisticated developers make the ai, it can never compare to human intelligence and challenge. After playing online you will go back to the game campaign with new skill.Xbox live adds an infinite amount of life to games. Some games have a much more advanced Live experience then others, ie. Halo2 with matchmaking and ranking systems, that really adds to the experience and playability.

Guarantee...You will spend way too much time playing Live! The house could catch fire and you will not put the controller down. You will find yourself thinking about yesterdays matches while you should be thinking about your work/school.You will be so wired, sleeping is just not an option.Your sex life will go down the tubes, unless she plays Live with you (let her win, and don't tell her she sucks.)You will forget you have kids.Dinner, what for? What day is it? Yes this will happen to you.

Be aware (in all games) for cheaters and those that taunt, swear and spray racist comments. This is a problem with the Human race not XBOX Live. Some people can really get carried away and ruin the experience for all of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars An online multiplayer revolution for Xbox!
A multiplayer revolution has arrived on Xbox. Xbox Live!

When i first got Xbox live i thought that it would be a hassle to set up. I was totally wrong. In a matter of ten minutes it all set up and ready to play.

All you basically have to do is ask your parents or if you are a parent, you have to type in your credit card number. You then have to fill out a lot of personal information about yourself, which might feel uncomfortable, but it is actually perfectly safe and is well worth it.

Xbox Live might also be a little bit pricy as it can add up to over $150 if you need a wireless router also including the headset and subscription card. But one thing i think people are unsure about is if you really do need to pay a certain amount of money per month. Heres how it goes.

If you buy the subscription card, once it runs out you can either go by another year long subscription card OR start paying for it per month. If you buy a subscription card, you do not have to pay $6 per month, so it actually ends up being a good deal.

As far as the performance of Xbox Live, i think it is amazing and truely worth your money. Most of the games now a days support the Xbox Live feature. You can also download content onto games via Xbox Live. Trash talking your opponents is awesome and hilarious also, all though they get ticked off if you do it to much, so its not recommended all the time. But i was also surprised in how good the communicator headset quality was in terms of hearing and talking to people. However, the headset can break easily if you step on it making it sometimes a money waster.

You can also have a friends list where you can list all of your friends. Any time you want you can message them or invite them to a game which can make it much more fun also.

One problem with Xbox Live is that it can lag/disconnect depending on which game you are playing. If you are playing games like Mortal Kombat Deception, it can disconnect quite freqently which can get very annoying. Lag appears on almost every game you play once in a while. But on the other hand games like Halo 2 and Mech Assault are almost perfect in terms of it not disconnecting or lagging, so it all depends on which game you are playing.

Xbox Live requires a High speed or broadband internet service, cable or DSL modem, Ethernet cord, subscription to Xbox Live and a game that is Xbox Live-enabled.

You can simply quick quick match which throws you into any customized game no matter what game you are playing, or you can customize the rules that you want by pressing a on optimatch. I prefer optimatch in my opinion.

The last problem with Xbox live is that once you create a gamertag, you are stuck with that one for the rest of your subscription until you make a new one. This can be a problem if you start to go off your gamertag and are desperate for another. But that is hardly an issue to complain about as the high performance and great quality makes up for that.

In conclusion, Xbox Live is a must have for all Xbox Console owners. I got it, and straight after my friends realized how fun it was, and they loved it as well and bought it within a week!

Editorial Review

I must confess to a compete lack of objectivity when it comes to the Green Machine. It is hands-down the most fun toy I have ever tried. Basically a re-make of the original Green Machine of decades past, this one has the same lever controlled, rear-wheel steering that allows for crazy hairpin turns, and spectacular spin-outs. Only this time the frame is a bit more sturdy, and the front tire is made of sturdy rubber(the rear tires, alas, are still of old school hollow plastic construction and are destined to wear out far too soon).A few important caveats: though highly maneuverable, this is one set of wheels you will want kids to keep far, far from traffic; cool spinouts also mean uncool wipe-outs, so you should consider having your child wear the same safety gear normally used for rollerblading; and the sometimes iffy brakes need to be carefully adjusted before use.--David Stoesz ... I am a 10 year old girl and I got the Green Machine for Christmas. At first I thought it was for a younger child, but then my Dad set the green machine up in the basement. I found myself fliping and turning and going so fast, I couldn't get off! In march I took it outside and the doorbell kept on ringing! All the neighbors wanted to try it(including adults). The Green Machine teaches levers and pulleys with the handles, I kept on experimenting with the brakes. The seat started getting a white crack mark on it, after my dad rode on it alot. It has a nice metal frame and can hold about 180 pounds. I ride the Green machine at least2 hours every week! It will never get boring, it's funner than a bike! The neighbors liked it so much that now there are 4 of them spinning around.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment Machine
We bought this for my 6 year old son for Christmas. He got about 4 or 5 good hours of use out of it before the pedals spun but the wheel didn't move. We brought it back to Sports Chalet where we bought it. The repairmen couldn't fix it because it has a fairly unconventional pedal system. Then we learned that Huffy has discontinued this bike. So there are no parts or replacements available. I would not recommend this toy for anyone. ... Read more

Following in the footsteps of the award-winning titles Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, visionary designer Tim Schafer delivers his newest creation--the bizarre, psychic adventure, Psychonauts.

For years, the Psychonauts have deployed their psychically-armed operatives all over the world, but now there is trouble brewing in their own boot camp. A deranged scie
