Editorial Review

Pokémon Ruby's updated graphics with weather effects, amazing sound, more than 200 Pokémon with over 100 new species--as well as its faithful adherence to the existing series of Pokémon games--makes for a welcome evolution in the series.

First, the game has a lot in common with Pokémon games Silver, Gold, and Crystal. For example, players can choose to be a boy or a girl trainer, an internal clock sets events at certain times, and you’re the game's handy-dandy Pokédex helps players keep track of the many stats. You're main goal is still to beat all the Gym Trainers and become the Pokémon Master. If you've played the old games, you will be right at home. But not all is the same.

The most obvious change is in the battles themselves. Now that two Pokémon can fight on your side at the same time, you can tag-team them against an enemy by taking advantage of the strengths of your Pokémons while covering their weaknesses. For example, you can now have a water Pokémon watch your fire Pokémon's back. You can also attack more than one Pokémon at a time.

A whole new element to the game focuses on how berries are used in battle. And if you collect enough berries, you can take them to a Berry Blender and make a PokéBlock, which is a little super-charged candy that raises your Pokémon's "Condition" attributes. You can then groom your Pokémon for regional contests and compete for ribbons like "Best of Show," which will unlock additional contests. There's even strategy in how to best use your berries: pick too many and the berry tree will disappear; plant berries, though, and a tree will grow. You can also build a Secret Base in special areas of the game, which you can decorate just like you can your room.

And let us not forget that Pokémon Ruby has a kickin' multiplayer system, too. You can trade Pokémon, and link up to four players for incredible battles. The only downside is that you can't link up with the old Game Boy Color games. --Bryan Karsh

Pros:

  • You can control two Pokémon in battle
  • Much needed graphic and sound facelift
  • Nice multiplayer feature (requires link cable and extra game cartridge)
Cons:
  • Can't trade Pokémon with Game Boy Color

I'm 12, and this game is cool. It takes a while, and can be frustrating at times, but I would suggest you buy it. Anyone ages 6-14 would probably like it, even if they don't like pokemon. I don't like pokemon, but I still think this game is cool. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Back to the Basics, But Tinged With Pop Culture.
TRIVIAL PURSUIT VOLUME 6 is one of the better regular editions of trivial pursuit to come along in several years (the last good regular edition was VOLUME 2). It's the same basic trivial pursuit game that has been played for the past 20 or so years, but with over 5,000 new questions. The categories are the same as in most of the Trivial Pursuit games:People & Places, Arts & Entertainment, History, Science & Nature, Sports & Leisure, and Wild Card. Also, there haven't been any major rule changes as far as I can tell.

Nevertheless, the game does have one major flaw. There is an overabundance of questions relying on popular culture that pop up (pardon the pun) in all of the categories, including the history and science & nature categories.I know that some of the early Trivial Pursuit games made for young people contained many pop culture references, but the original Trivial Pursuit games did not. One of the reasons that the history and science & nature cateogries used to be some of the most difficult categories to win at was because they didn't have any pop culture questions. That isn't the case with this edition.

Still, the game is a lot of fun to play and is a great way to study up on useless knowledge (something that I'm quite familiar with). By the way, what extract of the cinchona tree was once known as "Jesuit bark," for the missionaries who first brought it back to Europe? Anyone know?

A:quinine.

1-0 out of 5 stars You have to be kidding me . . .
Sorry, but Volume 6 does NOT compare to the classic Genus and Genus II versions of this game.Rather, Volume 6 relies heavily on People Magazine-type trivia -- lots of inane pop culture-oriented questions, for which even die-hard trivia fans will be saying "Who cares?"An example of this is a question about Christina Ricci appearing in a GAP commercial. This was in the HISTORY category!Lame!About 40% of the questions seemed to fall into this category.Another 20-30% were ridiculously easy, a further 20% ridiculously obscure. The creators have also ditched the nuanced questioning style of the original game, by which one could often deduce the answer, even when it was something otherwise unknown.

I think the problem here is that TP is issuing too many versions in too short a period of time.Genus 5, which I DO like, came out fairly recently (I think), and I think TP needs to take some more time to write better questions.Part of the fun of TP has been that you learn from the questions you miss. With Volume 6, you just don't care.

5-0 out of 5 stars An old classic
If you're unfamilliar with the concept of this game, which I can't really imagine, Trivial pursuit, in all its many incarnations, is a game of trivia, in which you must answer correctly at least one question in each category in order to win.The categories are: Arts and Entertainment, Sports and leisure, Science and nature, People and places, History, and a wild card category. The questions are hard, most of them will be things you probably have heard of and forgotten, since they are trivia, yet you'll always find that question which you know, making the game fun and exciting for every player. For comparison, Most of the questions in this game would be up on the upper levels of the TV show Jeapordy.

If you love random trivia and love even more besting your friends and showing off your knowledge of that random trivia, then this might just be the game that you've been looking for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive
I got to say, this is very impressive, becuase it has its very own Three-Point Shootout and its very own Dunk Contest. It would have been even better if it had the skills challenge and the RadioShack Shooting Stars (well, at leatst the Skills Challenge), because there was this game I played on NBA.com that had asome kind of game like the Skills Challenge, but overall, this video game is very impressive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best B-ball game this year.
This is a great basketball game for all you hardcore basketball fans. This is the only b-ball game that has the all-star weekend that includes: Rookies vs Sophmores, 3-point contest, Slam Dunk contest, and the All-Star Game. The 3-point contest is the best of all because it is challening with most of the players get into the low 20's or the high 20's and even some competitors get 30. Now to the gameplay. It is great with the computer challenging you almost everytime and shots aren't easy to get when you face a man like Ben Wallace and Shaq. And in All-Star you have to watch out for being blocked a lot so you should set a lot of screens so you can get open shots. The Free-throw shooting is way easier on NBA Live than ESPN. You only have to look at the backboard and you will have a rectangle on top of the square in the of the backboard where you want to get it in the rectangle to make the free-throw. On ESPN you have to put the basketballs together and it is really difficult.
The only gripe I have about this game is when you are wide open you will miss at least 30% of the time, but on ESPN when you are wide open you will make it about 95% of the time.
Overall I think this is better than any other basketball game this year.

2-0 out of 5 stars TOO "ARCADEY"!!!!!!
Once again, EA sports had found a winning formula for a quality game title only to take a step back in the following year's version.Last year's NBA Live 2004 was a lot of fun and had pretty realistic gameplay. But this year's version is much too arcadey and gets boring real, real fast!As the obvious focus on the developer's minds was to add the dunk contest, they sacrificed other key areas of the gameplay in the process. For example, the collision detection is horrible. You'll drive to the basket through an open lane only to have your player contort his body and throw up a bad shot even when there didn't seem to be any defenders around! Also, they took away certain key gameplay features that have become a necessity in Hoops games. For example, when you choose a play from the coach's playbook, you no longer have a diagram that shows how the play is supposed to run....all you can do is GUESS! Also, when viewing your player's stats, you no longer have the ability to sort your players in terms of who had the least vs who had the most in that particulary stat column. Finally, and arguably the biggest gripe, is that running fast breaks has become very difficult.Unfortunately, it's not due to good defens as much as it is due to bad offensive AI.On fast breaks, wide open players almost NEVER run to the basket!Instead, they often run to a corner or simply stop near the top of the key to take a 3 pointer even if they are a big man!!!!!
I've been playing sports games for years and unfortunately, EA Sports has developed a pattern. After a year or two of releasing a quality sports title, they'll eventually release a version that takes the series a few steps in the wrong direction.ESPN NBA 2K5 is better this year but not much. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A full Multi-Category review (and MAVAV parody bonus!)
This time around, gamers are in for a special treat from me. Not only am I giving my Multi-Category review to Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, but I just found a spoof website the other day made by the MAVAV (Mothers Against Video game Addiction and Violence), and found the site hilarious, absurd, and infuriating. As a result, I'm proud to include as a bonus in this review a parody mixed in saying what MAVAV would probably say about this game.

Enjoy!

GRAPHICS: (Me): This Kirby game shows that Nintendo knows how to bring out the best in its systems. The graphics may be decried by some as kiddie, but you should never judge a book by its cover. RATING: 9
(MAVAV): Kirby is yet another cute little character made to take advantage of the same strategy the tobacco industry used: lure kids in and addict them!

SOUND: (Me): Good, it fits in well with the Kirby universe. RATING: 9
(MAVAV): Turn off the volume! That music contains subliminal messages that will tell your childrens' subconcious to play more!

PLOTLINE: (Me): Kirby is chopped into four separate Kirbys of different colors and must swallow enemies and use their powers to save Mirror World. Goo, but it can be a little basic. RATING: 7
(MAVAV): This game has extreme violence and trains kids to kill people! If your children see Sword Kirby give Mr. Flosty a whack, they will be guaranteed to grow up as hardened, murderous criminals!!!

CONTROLS: (Me): Excellent. All difficulty comes from the skill needed to succeed. RATING: 8.5
(MAVAV): Once your kids touch the GBA, they will not be able to let go of it. They will immediately become obese social outcasts and suffer from extreme mental problems!

GLITCHES: (Me): None, as far as I know. RATING: 9.5
(MAVAV): This game has loads of glitches! And according to our non-existent, made-up sources, that's a FACT!!!

ENTERTAINMENT: (Me:) Excellent. I enjoyed it. RATING: 8
(MAVAV): Video game addiction is more dangerous than drugs and gangs! Don't let your kid touch this!

REPLAY VALUE: (Me): Plenty enough for a few times through. RATING: 8.5
(MAVAV): Oh, there's plenty, all right... when your kids are on a 72-hour non-stop gaming binge!

OVERALL RATING: 8.5

A FINAL WORD: (Me): Good game.
(MAVAV): Nintendo will steal your child's future. If they play this, THEY'LL BE SORRY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great kirby game!!!
This game is a very fun and challenging game.It is kind of that game that you might play all day and everyday. And your friends can help you beat the game.So you can split up and conquer the areas.Call your friends to the area you are having trouble with, and if you need to heal, call him/her to your area and eat the food they broght. This game is a must since you have to complete the game 100% and it is not going to be easy!

Editorial Review

Video game makers have been experimenting with live-action video in games since the early 1980s but EyeToy (a digital camera for PlayStation2) marks the first time it's been done right. The device magically superimposes video-game graphics onto a player's image and translates his or her movements into controlling elements of the game. It is the best improvement of video game controls since the joystick.

The EyeToy camera plugs into your PS2
EyeToy has two components: a digital camera that plugs into one of the USB ports in the front of the PS2 and a disc of party games. In the EyeToy games--there are 12 on the disc, but some of them are little more than variations on the same theme--your image is at the center of the action. The game is totally controlled by moving your body in front of the camera. For example, in one game where the object is to beat back invading hordes of kung-fu fighters who come at you from the four corners of the screen, you must move your hands (or elbows, head, hips, whatever) to connect with the fighters onscreen and slap them away. Unlike most contemporary video games, EyeToy is so intuitive that most users will be able to play in a matter of seconds--even toddlers and senior citizens. Watching someone play EyeToy is fun: onscreen, the games are like the fanciful mix of live action and animation á la Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and off-screen, the player's movements are almost as goofy as those playing Dance Dance Revolution.

EyeToy is best enjoyed by groups
Setting up EyeToy is simple--just plug in the camera and drop in the disc--but fine-tuning it for your game environment takes a little effort. First, you'll need to have adequate, well-balanced lighting. We found that a bare 60-watt light bulb positioned behind the EyeToy camera worked pretty well. Next, you should clear away as many objects as possible between you and the EyeToy camera. Not only can extra objects impede the camera's function, they can present hazard when playing the game. A uniform background helps, too; we found that a light-colored wall worked better than a dark background. Before you drag the couch out on the lawn and pull pictures off the wall, try out the camera in different positions to see if you can find something that works without redecorating. The recommended placement of your EyeToy camera is right on top of your TV, but if your PS2 is situated farther than the 72-inch attached camera cord, you will have to get creative. We tried pointing the camera up at us from a coffee table and it worked fine.

The EyeToy games, while fun, are too simple to keep solo gamers interested for long periods of time. EyeToy is best as a party game played with groups of friends, or as a way to show off your PS2. And as a peripheral for future games EyeToy holds a lot of promise. Let's hope that Tony Hawk and John Madden find a use for this little camera. --Porter B. Hall

Pros:

  • Totally unique approach to video game design
  • Great for groups
  • So intuitive that anyone will be able to play it immediately
Cons:
  • Only the pathologically vain will find lasting fun in this as a solo game

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent fun..
This ' game ' is decent fun. It's VERY innovative and capable. ( I've heard of it soon being able to hook up online and you'll be able to chat with people. ) This game is just repetetive. And a workout! There are times when at the end of the day when I played this when my arm was about to fall off. Buy this though if you want a strange, original, yet obvious idea, ' game ' . You most likely will not be too dissapointed in your first few outings with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Priceless Treasure for the PlayStation 2
EyeToy: Play is really fun game for the PlayStation 2. It's one of the top ten reasons why the PlayStation 2 is the BEST gaming system in the whole world (at least in our opinion). It allows you to play a variety of old school arcade-style minigames while being able to see yourself on your very own television set and create your own backgrounds through the USB camera. It does this via a motion-sensor detector, which means that no controllers are required. The minigames are broken down into 3 levels of difficulty: easy, medium, and hard. They allow you to choose from a variety of characters, and they never get old. Some of my personal favorites include "Boxing Chump", in which you box a robot-like opponent for points; "Rocket Rumble", in which you blow up as many rockets as possible turning them into fireworks before they exit the screen, "Soccer Craze", in which you are given three chances to keep a soccer ball in the air with your head or hands; "Wishi Washi", which consists of you cleaning windows; "Beat Freak", in which you catch floating CDs by beating them into a four-sided speaker sytem; "Mirror Time", in which you mimic the actions presented in a series of mirror directions; and "Ghost Eliminator", in which you play a ghostbuster in charge of exterminating ghosts simply by waving your hand over them. Additionally, each game comes with a training guide, so as to eschew confusion on how each game is played. There's also a playroom, which allows you to do things like swim under water with different colors of fish, pop bubbles, play with falling snowflakes, perform crazy actions while the computer mimics them, or see the background environment with no effect. In each of the games, it is possible to obtain a high score (as with most other old school arcade-style games). In doing so, it can take your picture by having you pose for a photo.

EyeToy: Play is also an ideal choice for a fun way to exercise. You can blow off steam in "Boxing Chump" (makes good anger management), or practice some dance moves in "Disco Stars." It offers some very pleasant music at the selection menu and in each of the games (which kinda sounds like the Agent 9 levels in Spyro 3) and combines this with a solid gameplay experience. In short, this is just one product that no self-respecting PlayStation 2 owner should be without (this is PS2 exclusive by the way). Now, if only they'd release EyeToy Play 2...

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea, but poor quality for the money.
The Eyetoy is an interesting idea in videogames... a camera that actually maps your movement onto the screen. I love the idea, and I love that the technology now exists. However...

For the amount of money involved, Sony could have invested in a higher quality camera. The image is too fuzzy to be satisfying, the unit detects light and dark spaces poorly, and adjustment is a pain. Though the camera is a fun toy, it need stweaking before I can take it seriously as a lasting accessory. ... Read more

Step right up, boys and girls, for the greatest game in the living room! Balloon Lagoon, designed by the creators of Cranium, is possibly more fun than the carnival it emulates. After all, there's no sticky cotton candy mess, no nauseating rides…but plenty of entertaining activity for everyone. A noisy musical merry-go-round timer keeps the pressure on while players take turns fishing for letters to spell words, collecting matching snacks at the Snack Hut, pressing levers to spin wheels to unscramble pictures, or flipping frogs back into their pond. Players keep score by collecting little plastic balloons--the first person to fill a mover piece with 15 balloons wins. The game includes game board, timer, four carnival games, four player movers, 72 scoring balloons, and a balloon bag. Three AA batteries required (not included). You can pretty much assume that if it's Cranium, it's going to be a blast! --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids younger than five!
I bought this game because my four-year-old son has been really into board games lately, and I was getting bored of playing "Chutes and Ladders" and "Hi-Ho Cherry-O" ALL THE TIME. This game was an instant hit, both with him and with my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Because of the timer, it's fast paced and is great for introducing the element of competition (e.g. beat the clock) to your young child, which is, after all, a part of life. The four different areas of the game keep it varied and insteresting. None of the activites were too difficult for even my daughter to master. I would highly recommend this game to parents with kids younger than five. It's perfect for starting a tradition of family game night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looks just like another toy with pieces for kids to lose
It was extremely fun, once we put all the pieces in place.I dreaded putting it together (it's not difficult, but has lots of small pieces), and thought that this was going to be another mind-numbing board toy experience.Instead, my son, who was four when he received it, had a BLAST!In fact, we all did (him, his father, me, my mother, and his buddy). He absolutely loves the music of the "timer" for the game (it's catchy, and not annoying at all), and the rules are straightforward but challenging enough for all to have a great time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun For Everyone
We got this game over Christmas for my 4 and a half year old. It has been fun for her and our whole family to play. The four different activities are engaging, and what's even more exciting is that my daughter can play it by herself if she wants. And the game is a little different everytime you play, so it will last a long time as well. ... Read more

Basically a re-tooled Big-Wheel, the Scream Machine has flash, speed, and maneuverability, but with the control and stability younger kids need. It has two fat, plastic rear wheels for maximum skid. The front, though, features a large traction tire that must be inflated. The tire is rubber because of the Scream Machine’s V-type brakes, which are operated from BMX-style, gripped handle bars. These brakes makes it much safer--especially on downhill runs--than bikes with the foot brakes. Leg room is adjusted by slidingthe bucket seat forward or back. The shiny frame, with shocks, is made of high-tensile steel that won’t rust or wear out after the first year. It has to be completely assembled by adults, however. To that end, a detailed instruction book and tools, including a wrench and Allen screwdriver, are included. --Diane Beall ... Read more

I have done 34MPH on these things, half pipes, ramps - everything against the mfg. warrenty - and It is lasting!! Dont believe me?goto www.brazenvideo.com - click on videos - watch the "Freestyle Big Wheel" video..It shows how tuff these things are!

My one complaint is tires are to thin asnd go really fast depending on how your child will ride this...

1-0 out of 5 stars Razor customer service sucks!
We bought an electric Razor for our son and he loved it.The circuit board died 6 months later.Customer service was not helpful at all. To fix the piece of junk would cost me $100. So we decided to trash it.What a waste of money!

1-0 out of 5 stars very disappointed in razor
We bought our three sons Razor Scream Machines for Christmas last year, two of the electric model and one of this model. They have been disappointing for several reasons.First, one of the front inflatable tires, which come preassembled, was unable to be filled with air due to improper assembly of the wheel. We had to take it to a bike repair shop for inflation.Second, one of the electric models will not hold a charge. There seems to be a problem with the charger, but they only have a thirty day warranty. Since we had twelve inches of snow on the ground for the six weeks after christmas, we did not know of the problem until after the warranty had expired. We cannot get anyone at the company on the phone, so we cannot order a replacement. Third problem, on this particular model, every time my child rides it the rear wheel falls off!We have tried on numerous occasions to contact someone at Razor to no avail. They do not provide company contact information in their owner's manual. We went online to try to find a customer service number. They do not have people answering the phones, we had to leave a message--no one ever returns our calls. The bike that loses its wheel is a safety hazard, and the company doesn't seem to care. For this reason alone, I would not recommend this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great set with some awesome new figures
This set includes five figures, Legolas, Gimli, Morannon Orc, Dead Soldier, and Mumakil Rider.Gimli is a great figure. He's much like the other Gimli's, but he's still great.Legolas is also a nice figure. This one has a different expression than other Legolas figures. That's always nice, considering most Legolas figures look like clones of each other. The Morannon Orc is a very sturdy figure. He's really ugly, but I guess that's expected since he's an orc.The Dead Soldier looks a lot like the dead soldiers.I don't know how well he'd pair with the king of the dead, considering the king of the dead is glow in the dark and this one is not.I really enjoy the Mumakil Rider. It looks just like the guy from the movies. He has the same insane expression on his face.If you are looking for a set chock full of great figures, this is the set for you! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly fun alone or with friends
If you laugh at karaoke, you really need to give this a try! Not only it is amazingly fun - you can even sing duets with your friends!

We have Karaoke on the XBox and love the graphics and ability to download new songs. On the PS2, There is Karaoke 1 and Karaoke 2 which have that same song selection and venue set. With Karaoke 3, they bring in the brand new ability to sing duets.

First, the normal gameplay. You get a full new set of locations - from a garage with cars outside, to an incredibly fun music video set, to a classic 'rooftop' scene a la the Beatles.

You get a new batch of songs, and like all song sets, they are "reproduced" by professional singers. This means that sometimes they sound almost exactly the same - and sometimes there are differences that drive fans completely insane. It really depends on which particular song you enjoy and how fanatical you are about the accuracy.

There's a good selection though, from Oops .. I Did It Again to Under Pressure, from Ain't No Mountain High Enough to Respect. I have to admit, though, that there weren't any true Lisa Favorites in here. With my XBox karaoke, there are a bunch of songs that I'd gladly sing over and over again because I love them. There are 2 or 3 songs in here that I enjoy a lot, but nothing of the same level. I suppose it's always hard to choose a group of songs that appeal to a wide audience.

I suppose in a way I've been spoiled by the XBox download ability. I can just go online and grab more songs if I want with the XBox. With the PS2, I'm sort of stuck.

Once you get through the main gameplay, you automatically unlock all the original locations, which is great. The graphics are really pretty impressive, with the fans reacting immediately to your good and bad behavior. There is also a HUGE collection of characters to choose from now, from one-legged pirates to opera singers, from Indian girls to Meatloaf-looking guys. That is really something great.

Of course the main reason to get Karaoke 3 is the duets, and they are a TON of fun. You need 2 mics of course, and someone to sing with. Then each of you gets your own progress bar, one on the top, one on the bottom. There are only a handful of duet songs in here - from I Got You Babe to You're the One that I Want, from Shining Star to ABC. I like California Dreamin' myself, and it is actually a challenge to keep those harmonies going. But it's great fun!

Definitely an incredibly fun way to build up your singing skills, your tone and pitch and ability to hold notes for the proper length. An incredibly fun party game too, since just about every human sings along with songs they love, even if they won't admit to it. My only real complaint with this PS2 version is that you can't download new songs. You would think since the PS2 *is* able to go online that they'd give you some way to do it. Maybe we'll have to wait for the next generation Sony console before it catches up in this sense.

Bonus - watch the 'making of' video - they have the Badgers Badgers video running in the background on the laptop!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST VIDEO GAME OF ITS KIND
I think this game is one of the best I've ever played. I love the song selections on it and I love all the different challenges. My friend and I play this for hours! Its really good for parties too (Birthdays, get togethers, etc.) :) I highly recommend this product!!!!!!! :) :) :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Haven't been able to use 2 headsets
I bought the first Karaoke game for my nieces for Christmas. We opened it early before they had to go home "to try it out". My sister and I fell in love with the game and had to go out and buy KR2 and KR3 and two lochitech headsets right away. I have not been able to use KR3 with the 2 headsets. The game locks up at the start. If we keep hitting the reset button, we can sometimes put in all of our information and then it locks up while the song is downloading. I tried the game using just one headset and it works just fine, but then I don't get to use all of the new features, like the duets or the sing offs. I haven't had any luck so far in trouble shooting this problem. I have switched headsets and I know they both work by themselves. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Each installment of the Final Fantasy series has featured strongstorytelling, characterization, and strategic combat, fun minigames, and hoursupon hours of captivating gameplay. The 10th title in the series is noexception. This is the first time a Final Fantasy game has appeared on thePlayStation2, and it takes full advantage of the increased technicalcapabilities.

The story this time concerns Tidus, a blond-haired star of a sport calledBlitzball. While he is playing in a match, Tidus's city is attacked by an evilforce called Sin, and everything is destroyed save Tidus and his guardian Auran. The adventure begins as the pair are somehow transported to another world. Fromhere on, it's standard Final Fantasy gameplay: fight battles, manage experiencepoints, learn new powers, and recruit a motley crew of nonplayer characters tojoin your quest.

The graphics, however, take things to a new level. They are amazing not only fortheir realism, but also for their imaginative art design. The world these heroesinhabit is breathtakingly beautiful, flowing, and full of inventive surprises. You haven't lived until you've surfed cables high in the air, or ridden agraceful airship through the clouds. The stunning effects are on display whenyou use magic in combat, summon gigantic monsters, and use fire columns todevastate your foes.

One new element is voice acting. The innovation yields predictably mixedresults: it's wonderful to hear spoken dialogue rather than read subtitles, butas with most games translated from Japanese, the acting is mediocre andsometimes unintentionally hilarious.

Still, the game's new graphics engine and solid gameplay are sure to please fansof the series waiting to see what Square has in store for them. While FinalFantasy X doesn't offer much innovation, it also doesn't disappoint. Andfortunately, with Final Fantasy XI already in development, the title isstill a misnomer. --Andrew S. Bub

2-0 out of 5 stars No, no, no, no, no.....
I played this game for a long, long time (about 35 hours) and quit before beating it. Here's what I think:

First, the pros.

1. The game has good graphics for its time, definitely, although some animations are a little excessive. Backgrounds mix between 3D and pre-rendered, all usually unique and beautiful.

Okay, that about does it for the pros. Now, the cons.

1. The battling is, to put it simply, horrendous. Although the battle system is faster than previous FF games, it is enexcusable to have such a basic battle system in any RPG today. Seriously, its less advanced than many SNES RPG's. No time limits (as in FFVI, FFVII, or Chrono Trigger), no real-time implementation, nothing. Just plain, "select attack and watch" battling. Oh wait, there is one new aspect. During battle, you can switch characters in and out, which does lead to pretty handy healing or power-up situations. I'll admit, that aspect is interesting.

2. When you're not battling, the game is at its worst. It goes like this: first, there is a cutscene, then a long, painfully linear path full of random encounters every 10 seconds, and then a boss. That's it. For 35 hours or so, cutscene, linear path, boss, repeat. It starts out fun (which is why the game recieved such great reviews), but about 15-20 hours into it the fun is gone. At around 30 hours, it starts to get painful.

3. The plot is drab. I hear all these great things about the plot, but I can't agree. The plot, like the rest of the game, is basic and not innovative. It also goes from passable to just plain lame by the end of the game.

4. Audio is also drab. Music is good, but nothing sticks in my mind like Chrono Cross or the SNES RPG's of old. Voice acting starts strong, but all of the voices get very, very annoying later on.

5. Characters. Ugh. All of them are stereotypes. Tidus, the protaganist, is your typical hero with the "let's go get 'em!" attitude. Yuna is your female caster who is quiet and sensitive. Auron is your "cool" character, whose sole purpose is to be cool, and fails miserably. Lulu and Kimahri have no personality whatsoever. However, Wakka is a very interesting and fresh character, the only interesting one in the game. He has the best voice acting, as well.

6. Blitzball. I expected a real time, soccer-like experience, but no. The developers got lazy and made it a simple turn-based borefest.

Overall, the game is fun for a while (which is, as I stated before, why it got such good reviews). The whole game just gets worse and worse as time goes on. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthy edition to the Final Fantasy series
It has been a long while since I've played any console game, let alone a console RPG (Role-Playing Game).I started out as a console gamer when I was younger, but for the past several years I've been a die hard PC gamer. However recently I decided to get a PS2 because of its now lower price and absolutely massive game library. As a fan of console RPGs in general, and Final Fantasy games in particular, I just had to play Final Fantasy X when I got my PS2.Having played through Final Fantasy VI (a.k.a. III in North America), VII, and VIII, I wondered how Final Fantasy X would stack up, especially now that I've had a lot of exposure to PC RPGs.Quite simply this game me glad to get a PS2.It's one of the best RPGs I've played in some time for any platform.

Final Fantasy X revolves around a character named Tidus, a smart-aleck athlete who is sent 1000 years into the future to save the world of Spira from an evil creature known as Sin.Throughout this game you will encounter an interesting cast of characters such as Auron, a battle-scarred swordsman; Lulu, an attractive and powerful magic user; Kimahri, a humanoid-lion creature who likes to let his spear do the talking; Wakka, a "blitzball" player who finds a kindred spirit in Tidus; Rikku, a young Al Bhed girl; and Yuna, a summoner who can call forth powerful creatures called "Aeons", and will eventually become Tidus' love interest.Final Fantasy X does a great job of fleshing out these characters' personalities so that you feel more invested in the story's outcome.

The core gameplay of Final Fantasy X is similar to most other console RPGs.Battles consist of random encounters with monsters that your selected party of three must defeat. Each character in this game has their own distinctive attributes.Auron, for example, is a physically tough warrior who can take and dish out a lot of damage, while Lulu is physically weak but makes up for it with strong magic attacks. One of the more original, and admittedly oddest, features of this game is its character advancement system.Unlike pretty much every RPG (both PC and console), Final Fantasy X does not use a simple "level up" system.Instead, when you win a battle against monsters you will gain "spheres", which you use to activate abilities and stats on a character's "sphere grid".It took a little time to get used to it, but this system soon became second nature.

Graphically the game looks phenomenal. The background environments are much richer in detail compared to previous Final Fantasy games. Also, the character models are themselves incredibly detailed, and this is especially noticeable during the in-game cutscenes when the characters talk to each other. And of course, Square's signature computer animated cutscenes look as amazing as ever.Through this I could tell that the makers of this game spent a great deal of time to ensure that Final Fantasy X would be visually stunning, which is a good thing in my books.

Where this game falters a little though is in the sound department.Music wise Final Fantasy X provides a decent selection of music when not engaged in combat, reflecting the different environments you encounter in the game. However, when in combat the game plays the same battle music over and over again, and it only really differs when you fight a boss creature.Eventually the battle music started to get annoying. The voice acting in Final Fantasy X is a first for the Final Fantasy series, and on the whole I thought it was okay, although it isn't going to win any awards. In my opinion the best voice acting job was done by Auron's voice actor who gave him a very strong and somber tone.On a related note, being a fan of Japanese animation and foreign cinema, I would have actually liked the option to choose between having the English audio language, and the Japanese audio language with English subtitles.Although I know this would not be possible due to memory constraints.

However, the main problem with Final Fantasy X (although it's a small one) is the fact that it is a very linear game.Unlike other RPGs such as the Baldur's Gate series (for the PC), or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Final Fantasy X allows little deviation from the main story of the game.Basically there is only one real way for you to go from the story's start to its finish. But you know what? That's fine with me.One of the main reasons I liked playing the Final Fantasy series is that it always told a compelling story, which Final Fantasy X delivers in spades.

In the end, if you never liked console RPGs or the Final Fantasy series in the first place, Final Fantasy X doesn't really give you any reason to change your mind. But if you ARE a fan like I am, you owe it to yourself to pick this game up!With some good music, fantastic graphics, and an enormously gripping tale, this game has a lot to offer.Final Fantasy X definitely lives up to the legacy of its predecessors, and is a game that shall be remembered for years to come.

My ratings are:
Graphics = 10/10
Sound = 7/10
Gameplay = 8/10
Overall = 9/10

2-0 out of 5 stars And this is a game, huh?
I will admit - I never played any FF game before, so I bought this from a "competitor" site.... I didn't get the game. This is one of the most boring games I ever played, why do people like this? I mean, you don't get to do anything... 2/3 of your time is spent watching multiple 'cut' scenes, it's like watching an animated movie. Then every now & then you get to fight and move around. Ohhh and the fighting, I guess I'm used to games like Tomb Raider, but you never actually "hit" anyone... it's just a bunch of arrows telling you that you hit someone - no real character interaction! After about a week, I stopped playing and sold it on the same "competitor" site. Only redeaming points are; the graphics are well done and the music is cool. If you like games where the characters actually interact and fight each other, turn and run from this game - pure hogwash. But obviously a lot of people like it... I'm in the minority I guess. Happy Gaming! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun and education but too expensive
I played this game with friends and had a great time.It is a lot of fun and it helps you to think differently about money and investing. No, it doesn't fully translate into the "real world", but what does?I would say that it would still be a great game to own and help to teach your kids. However - I couldn't believe how expensive it is.I can't believe anyone would really pay $200 for a GAME.Yes, it teaches you, but it's still just a game.I would like to have a copy of this game.I really enjoyed it, but I will never pay $200 for a game.I think I'll learn alot more about financial wisdow from keeping my $200 and investing it, rather than spending it on a game.

5-0 out of 5 stars I want ON2U and MYT4U!!!
The game is great when you are still in the Rat Race. Once you get out and enter the Fast Track, the game is towards the end and starts to get less exciting. Cos when you enter the Fast Track, basically you will have almost unlimited cash to spend, even the TAX and Divorce won't cause you a great damage.

However, the idea of writing financial statement is good. Putting the concept in real life can help you understand your financial situation more clearly.

But still, the only way to make money quickly to invest all your money in the stocks ON2U and MYT4U...

I heard that Cashflow 202 introduce a new rule that for every 25 cards draw you have to re shuffle the deck to make the chance more random. I think this is a good improvement and we can apply it to the 101 game as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want learn????
This game is a good source of education for people who are just beginning to think about that extra income, that cash flow, that new car they have always dreamed about. People in other reviews complain about DoDads, and not having the option to buy or not. Well that's life, the water heater does not ask you if it can break tomorrow or should it wait!, your car does not ask you if it wants to stall on you in the middle of the trip to the Grand Canyon. So DoDads are expenses that spring-up on you unexpectedly and you have to take care of them when they show up, same way some one mentioned that the you get a child and you do not have the option not to have one! OOOHHhhhhh!!! Where are the abortion activists now??? Just kidding... but if you are married or even living together, a child may happen, and its not just your significant other but your niece/nephew/granddaughter/brother-in-law may need you to take them in tomorrow God forbid, then what happens??? Are you going to abandon your family??? If Yes! Then you have the right to gripe about not having an option to get a child.

One major point everyone made in their review is that the game is purely based on luck! YES!!!! Thank God you acknowledge that its luck, and my friend how much LUCK do you think life is based upon. Every motivational speaker will tell you that life is in your hands and you take the wheel in your hands and turn it any which way you want to but they fail to mention the luck part. Simple example, you buy a home by paying everything you got and the next day it is buried under a land slide which is not covered by insurance. What do you do ????

Life throws a dice for you every day, there are opportunities out there every day, it's up to us to grab them, and this game tries to teach you how to recognize the opportunities and how to plan for one if you see it come your way.
I played this game with a friend a week ago and just purchased my own set.
I got out of the RAT RACE in the first 1/2 hour, every time I played in a group of 5 people, but I attribute that to playing smart, not that I got lucky.
BUT I take the lesson this game provides and hopefully will be able to apply the knowledge to get positive Cash Flow!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A New Version of GTA Type Game
This Game Could be called GTA in North Korea. But that would be an understatement. What this game does is put the Best Aspects Of GTA and adds a ton of features for a war game. You have the ability to call in airstrikes, Supply and AMMO Drops, Pickup for the captured Terrorists, and the variety of destructable objects is unlimited. If you see it, you can destroy it. You go on several misSions working for different factionS such as the russians, chinese, mafia, south korea to build up both your bankroll and status so you can buy more weapons and supplies. The controls get some getting used to as not all of the controls handle the same on all Vehicles that can make things confusing.
As for the negatives except for a Sound glitch on the shotgun weapon ,where you simply do not have any sound what so ever, there really are none .THIS SEEMS TO BE A BUG ONLY ON THE PS2 GAME ONLY. Overall this game is great as far as an action 3rd person shooter. If you loved GTA You won't be dissapointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rent it.....
Best fun I have had in a long time. Great game. However, I'd never pay $50.00 for a game I can't play online. It's worth renting for sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best

I also like chalenges which make this game better. If you like to blow things up, see different places, and experience really cool gameplay, this game is definately for you. With classic electric guitar styling and enough special effects to create a lot of excitement, this clever electric guitar starter kit is a perfect option for aspiring young rock musicians to gain their chops. The sound produced by the instrument is impressive for its fairly basic construction, not quite of the performance quality of a Fender Stratocaster but plenty good enough for starters. A quality pickup and tremolo bridge allows young axe-slingers to try out their rock star licks. This is also a convenient way to get started in music as everything you might need is included: case, guitar strap, strings, picks, and even a small practice amp. 4-0 out of 5 stars Most Games ShouldFollow This One As An Example
Itz a me, a Mario! in his second and almost greatest adventure yet. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because it can get a teensy-weesny bit boring. Don't let this fool you. This game is so superb that I keep trying to find games like this! Bowser kidnaps Princess Toadstool and let the mushroom kingdom fall to ruins. In this classic arcade game, you play as Mario (or Luigi depending on if you play two player), and you must go through 32 unforgettable levels, and you have to rescue the princess! Mario can hit bricks for some coins to boost your score. Plus all your favorite tunes are back, as good as ever. There are also power-ups such as the Mushroom, which makes Mario big and take one hit point. There is also a fire flower, which gives you the ability to shoot fire! But wait: the Star, which gives you invincibility! The classic jump and--what's this? Mario can run by holding the B button. Classic Goombas and Koopa Troopas and other baddies are just waiting to mess Mario up. Best of all, there are countless bonus places, such as places that warp you to other levels, and a vine that takes you to a coin heaven. So get this games for about $15.00, and it'll be totally worth every penny, trust me!

3-0 out of 5 stars I'm confused!
This game is kind of fun, but was it the first Mario video game or was Donkey Kong the first Mario video game because I was just asking.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Classic Game of all time!
I think Super Mario Bros is one of the best games ever. Which Nintendo Has decide to Rerelease this game on the Game Boy Advance. I've Actually played the Super NES Version of this Game and The Super NES Version (...) I mean here are 2 things on my opinion on the Super NES Version.
1. Bad Graphics
2. Worst gameplay

5-0 out of 5 stars COOOOOOOOL GOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!
This game is the best. It gives you the feeling of playing soccer outside of stadiums or fields. Instead, you will play in parks on blacktops, and in the alleys. It gives you the authentic feeling of how peolpe in countries like Brazil, France, Spain, England, and many other countries play when they do not have alot of space. GO GET IT TODAY ANDSCORE A GOAL WITH FIFA STREET.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Game EAbig has to offer!
This game is GREAT. I believe it is better than NFL Street and NBA Street. If you do not like soccer still try this game out and see how cool it is. I went to Vest Buy with my family and expected to buy some music and DVDs. But after trying this game out on the test systems, I could not get away it was so fun. So instead of buying DVDs and music I bought FIFA Street. It may seem confusing at first but I believe the fun of the game is trying things out, and learning how to win. SO GO BUY IT NOW!

2-0 out of 5 stars Soccer. ON THE STREETS! (...)
NBA Street. NFL Street. What could be next?
Somehting hardcore. Something underground. Something deadly. Isn't it obvious?
SOCCER!
Wait, what the (...) soccer? A game which can go on for hours at a time without a single score, were men in short shorts run around a king a ball while british hooligans call each other (...)Fine, whatever, street 'soccer'.
Fifa Street is a game focused around the underground battle that is soccer (seriously, im not kidding), and for the two people who bought this game, they and I both know that it's, well, crap. The gameplay has been dragged down severly from actual soccer to a dumbed down, too simple back and forth kickfest. It's boring, it's uninteresting, and even the multiplayers isn't so hot. TO be fair, this is EA BIG's first soccer game, and, well, better luck next time.
Another major problem of the game is it's graphics which aren't just muddy and disorientated, but dark and just plain damn ugly to look at. When you get down to it, even the most hardcore EA Fans will eventully have to admit that this is nothing but a desperate attempt to expand the 'Street' series and to slip some more green wads into their back part. It's selfish, it's lazy, and absoloutly unacceptable when it comes to EA. Good try EA, but let's face it, we narrow minded Americans don't give a damn about soccer. Go ahead and let those wacky and strange Europeans make em', just keep on riding with Basketball and Football. Until then, this is nothing but a mess shoved out of EA's ass, which doesn't even attempt to innovate the soccer genre in any way. Too bad. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of detail!
this games is a great game if you like to customize you car and every detail of it. I found no cons in the games.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Travesty of a Title
This game is quite a travesty. Thank goodness I purchased it used from a third party dealer on Amazon. I will be selling it at my local Gamestop tomorrow for hopefully an small loss.
I can't comprehend the hype over this game. Perhaps, the positive evaluations are emanating from folks who haven't played other quality race titles or any good game before for that matter.
There is no improvement in this title over the first one. In fact, I popped in the old one just to ensure I wasn't delusional. It turns out I wasn't. NFS 1's graphics are almost identical and I believe the gameplay may be better in the first game. It certainly had more redeeming qualities, easier functionality, and was actually fun (but nothing serious like PGR2).
Driving all over town to find "the next race" may be one of the most annoying tasks I ever had the displeasure to endure in any video game. I had enough of those kinds of non-sensical chores in "Grand Theft Auto"; It justs takes away from a game that already doesn't have much to offer as a baseline.
Even the cut-scenes are total crap. They are are actually non-animated comic book like graphics. This is completely unacceptable in 2004-2005 on the XBOX when animations from Halo 1 & 2 and Ninja Gaiden are far superior.
From a racing perspective Project Gotham 2 totally steps all over this game in every single aspect (See my review of that).
EA racing games pretty much blow.In the past, I rented Burnout 3, another EA game, and whoa, what another incredibly overrated waste of time and energy. I will never again invest time nor money in an EA title. They have proven recently that they are incapable of putting out a quality game for XBOX.

3-0 out of 5 stars No replayability no fun when u complete boooring
Need for Speed+Underground+2=????
i'm sorry EA this is going to be a bad review for ur game :(
Wow... the visuals, the performance upgrades, the cars.
It sounds great.
It sounded great when I bought it for ( oh i cant say what i bought it for)
It now sounds like a form of torture.
Now ive finished the game ive realized that the only good part of it is the soundtrack...and the idea
At first ithought that this game was soooo coool!!
Then I got to the last two levels...
It gets repetative!!! Really repetative!!! So repeatative its like chinese water torture. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor. In career mode you win about 20 races then you sign a new sponsor.
AND YOU DO THAT FOR ABOUT EVER
Then they seem to make you stop unlocking parts cars and visuals and the races become pointless...
all there is to do now is play free mode.
On the back of the case it says race or roam on 125 miles of open road.... HA
this is so UNtrue
yes the city is huuuge.. but it has about 5 other streetracing cars driving around and 30normal people cars...that come in 5diffrent varieties(hatchback, van, pickup, suv, and taxi)this may sound good.. but if you think about it , on 125 miles of road you encounter 3 cars every 5 minuites
the motorways(or for USA rreaderes highway or freeway)are absolutley emptty!!!(apart from one or two cars)
races are good. but you repeat the same one over and over again

the cars are amazing and the modding(or to the not knows CUSTOMIZING or CHANGING YOUR CARS STYLE AND APPEARANCE)is fantasatic with endlesss... etc...BUT no damage detail...
you see me going down the motaorway at 200 mph suddnley i crash into one of the few cars. it goes into slow motion for a second and then well...you emerge with no damage at all ( no wonder they had to put a saftey warning at the beggining...no wonder i always see people flying past my bedroom window at 200 mph and then killing themselves by crasing into so guys ride...expecting to emerge absolutley fine lol lol )

i reccomend not buying this but buying the first midtown madness.at least in that there is more traffic...which means more fun and crashes!"!!(with damage detail)
(just kifdding [lol] buy the game butdont expect much of it i also reccomend buying the first mid
