Made just for preschoolers and early elementary students, Leap 1 Books pack lots of lessons into one engaging, interactive story. Here, kids learn about seven of the most popular stories from the Bible's Old Testament--while also working on reading and pronunciation skills, identifying characters, themes, and settings, and developing memory retention. Just stick the included book cartridge into a LeapPad, put the book in place, and, with a parent's guidance, the LeapPad takes care of the rest. This book works with all LeapPads except the My First LeapPad Book. --Diane Beall ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STORIES-NEED FRIENDLIER FACES
I certainly love the leapfrog line of stories, and felt a book on Bible stories would be perfect for my 3 1/2 year old.I have to admit, though, that my husband and I thought the illustrations were a bit on the scarier side. We're going to stick to the friendlier looking faces (same stories) in his other childrens Bible books for now.

Learning to ride a bike is small potatoes--at least compared to a kid that can rattle off more new words this month than last month. LeapPad's multisensory, experiential interface allows a child to do just that. With Richard Scarry's Best Little Word Book Ever, kids see, hear, say, and touch throughout the book, making it easier to retain and enhance oral, vocabulary, and phonics skills while learning new, useful words. Scarry's characters (like the familiar Huckle Cat) help to identify and pronounce both new and old words correctly.

It's simple to use (just insert the cartridge and book into a LeapPad, and use the attached stylus to hear information), but this system is an innovative technology that provides entertaining, effective learning, designed by a Stanford-trained reading expert. As well, the system has been credited with the TMA's Educational Toy of the Year and People's Choice awards.

Two notes: Make sure the LeapPad book you get is appropriate for the child's educational level; this one should be a challenge for kids up to age 6. As well, know that some LeapBooks, like this one, work on both LeapPad and LeapPad Pro, but some books only work with one system. --Diane Beall ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This a wonderful book to help expand the vocabulary of young children. The pages are not cluttered with unnecessary background images. The sounds a funny noises are cute too.I recommend this for any child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Cute
I am not usually a fan of Richard Scary stuff. The animals are a bit wierd and the books are just way too busy for my tastes. Furthermore, my son hasn't been too interested in RS stuff either.

However, we got this book as a gift and my son loves it.

The book is not too crowded that my son can't pick out the page what he wants to touch. Each animal says something or makes a cute sound. There are some fun games that have been quite a challenge for my son.

My son is 2 and 1/2 and this has been just right for himas he begins to learn. Now, if there were a Richard Scary ABC that was just like this, I'd probably buy it too.

Enjoy ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Love it, but it has problems.
My son loves this toy but every time we turn it on it says "time to change your batteries!". I have changed the batteries several times and finally discovered that the battery compartment was corroded. After cleaning it out it seemed to work fine but realized that the triangle button doesn't work and never has - which frustrates my two year old.Since he loves it so much I'm buying him a new one. Hope this one works better!

3-0 out of 5 stars GREAT LEARNING TOY WITH MANUFACTURER DEFECT
YOUR CHILD WILL ABSOLUTELY LEARN A LOT FROM THIS TOY & LOVE IT DEARLY. UNFORTUNATELY THE ON/OFF BUTTON ON THE TOYS FOOT STOPS ACTIVATING THE TOY & THE TOY BECOMES INOPPERABLE. THE FIRST ONE I PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2005; IT LASTED UNTIL FEBURARY 2005 (ABOUT A MONTH & A-HALF.) THE SECOND ONE I PURCHASED MID FEBURARY 2005 LASTED ONLY 3 WEEKS, THEN THE SAME ON/OFF BUTTON MALFUNCTION OCCURRED. THE THIRD ONE I PURCHASED MARCH 2005 IS CURRENTLY STILL WORKING. IF THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS, I WILL NOT BUY THIS TOY A FOURTH TIME; IT IS BECOMMING TOO COSTLY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for teaching our daughter writing...
We own over a dozen books for My First LeapPad.This particular book is my daughter's second favorite. In fact, we own two versions of it, one in English and the other in French.

My wife and I purchased this book because our daughter needed help with her fine motor skills, especially when it came to writing letters and numbers. She wasn't lagging or anything, but she made the mistakes all three-year-olds make when trying to write.

Through fun activities, this book taught her to write in strait lines as well as proper curved lines. She learned to correctly print both capital and small letters. She also learned to correctly write her numbers. We were pleasantly surprised by how much this book improved our daughter's fine motor skills and control over a pen.

Additionally, since her French lagged her English, the French version of this book taught her the alphabet in French and well as all her numbers in this language.Had she not already known these things in English, I imagine it would have taught her these as well.

This book is definitely one of My First LeapPad's best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the slightly older My First Leappad kids
My four year old son really enjoys this one (we have about a dozen My First Leappad books so far). A couple of the games really intrigued him; the "theme" is a carnival/fair, and helikes tracing the lines from the ball to the milk cans, for example. He's not as enthralled with the alphabet tracing part but I think he'll grow into that. This is definitely one of the most-requested books (he and his younger sister also really like Leap to the Moon and Disney Princesses). ... Read more

This all-inclusive McDonald's cash register set packs enough fun to swaykids into working for the Golden Arches one day. That may be the plan of itsmanufacturer, but for now its familiar colors and objects make it a greatpretend-play toy. The set includes everything from a Mickey D's cash registerwith a beeping, flashing scanner to a hot fudge sundae. Kids will really feelthe part wearing the included McDonald's visor or intercom/headset, which says10 phrases, including the one we've all heard: "Welcome to McDonald's. May Itake your order?" Other pieces include supplies for making a cheeseburger "valuemeal," and currency and credit cards featuring Ronald's face. --DianeBeall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best birthday present he got!!
I have to say this cash register, and all it's great accessories, were the best presents my son got for his 2nd birthday. We had been looking for a cash register because he was really into things with buttons and that made noises and he knows that McDonald's is the place we go to get fries so it seemed like a great gift for him.

We were right!Once he saw what was under the wrapping paper he had to get everything out of the box and immediately put on the hat and started playing with the walkie talkie and then he got hold of the cash register and started trying to figure out how to open the money part (i did decide to take away the coins and money though just so he wouldn't try to swallow them) and he wanted to find out everything about this toy.He figured out how to make the noise when he zipped the credit card through it and found out that if you push the button on the scanner it lights up and makes a scanning noise. That birthday was in August and it's now mid March and he still plays with this thing at least once a day!For $19.99 you can't beat that.

I gave it 4 stars for durability though because the cover on the money box part came off.Actually I think my son, the destructive 2 year old that he is, ripped it off but I would have liked for it to have been a little more securely attached. But again, it's $19.99 which is a savings of around $20 off the Leap Frog cash register, which we also looked at, and it does a lot more so I'm not too worried about it.Great toy if your child is at the age where they are starting to do pretend play!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good time for your future restauranteur
My 6yo son got this toy for Christmas in conjunction with the drive-through set, and while it doesn't fit on the surface of that toy very well, it's a great pretend "restaurant" set-up.I was really amazed that the cash register actually is a working calculator! And of course, little kids love wearing the hat and earpiece - it looks so cute on!The one big complaint I'd have is the quality of the play money. There are 2 sets of one quarter, one dime, and one nickel all glued together, and a fake $1, $5, and $10 bill each. One each! And they're glued to the package and they tear when you try to take them out! The little plastic sundae looked almost good enough to eat! One caveat: Make sure to not lose the key to the cash register drawer, or else it's impossible to lock or unlock it.I recommend supplementing this with some fake toy money if you're trying to teach your child about counting money, but it's still a very high-functioning, fun, and realistic toy that my son really enjoys and plays with a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dial 'M' for McDonalds
My 4 year old nephew thoroughly enjoyed this toy, the fake fries and money keeping him occupied for hours on end... especially when he picked up the phrase "Would you like fries with that?" How we laughed... until he'd said it 10 times in a row which is when we wondered if we had made the right decision in buying this for the little tyke - especially seeing as he was getting more spotty and developing greasy hair!

All in all, it kept him quiet - so 4 stars for that; 1 star from me though as it made us feel old before our years and suddenly realised that this is what he may be doing in 14 years time...

Durable but age endearing! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Really great.I'm growing tomatoes and they are doing pretty good.Very cool.I will try to grow green peppers after the tomatoes are done.It waters by itself and that is really cool.It doesn't even need a lot of plant feed.I know this will be great for kids that like to grow plants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy indoor gardening
Not only does this "toy" help you learn about hydroponics, it lets your grow your own plants indoors.I started lettuce and baby carrots and within 4 days they had germinated -- very quick! The greenhouse feeds itself; all you have to do is add more nutrient solution every so often and harvest your plants. This greenhouse isn't really a toy; it's too useful and interesting to be a toy.And while the box is slightly small and the "lid" part rather flexible, cheap plastic, it does hold up and certainly works.I'm very happy with the greenhouse!

ITS AMAZING HOW THIS WORKS!!! FIRST INSTEAD OF USING SOIL IT USES A GROWING MEDIUM WITH NO SOIL. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT 24 HOURS OR EVEN DAYS BEFORE YOU USE THIS YOU JUST POUR WATER ON TOP OF THE GROWING MEDIUM AND START PLANTING!!! YOU DONT HAVE TO WATER OR FERTILIZE IT BECAUSE YOU MIX THE NUTREINT MIX AND THE WATER TOUGHER AND IT WATERS AND FERTILIZES IT WHEN IT NEEDS IT. YOU CAN PLANT ALMOST ANYTHING FROM FRUITS TO VEGGIES OR HERBS TO FLOWERS!! THIS PROUDUCT IS GREAT AND I RECOMEND IT!!!! ... Read more

This book was a disappointment. The idea is awesome, but the tunes are a little off beat-slow. We have completely enjoyed other Leap Frog books, but this book was missing zip. The pages are ripping off the spiral part. We still look forward to trying other books!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest LeapPad book
We were a bit disappointed in this book. The tunes and tempo of several of the rhymes is different than the "usual" versions that my kids are familiar with. The pages could really use to be more durable, the cord from the pen has caused several small tears and the pages rip from the spiral binding much too easily. For the price, I would suggest getting a different book...Thomas the Tank Engine & Bob the Builder were both very popular with my 4 yr old son. ... Editorial Review

What's really cute? A kid that can't count to 20, but really, really wants to. LeapPad's multisensory, experiential interface makes kids--even those who aren't old enough for school--want to count as well as big kids do. With Tad Goes Shopping, kids see, hear, say, and touch throughout the story, retaining new information, and enhancing learned information. At the same time, little Tad helps his friends correctly identify and pronounce numbers and learn to count like real pros. In short, the book teaches the basic building blocks of math readiness (using more/less than, matching, shapes, and color concepts).

It's simple to use (just insert the cartridge and book into a LeapPad, and use the attached stylus to hear information), but this system is an innovative technology that provides entertaining, effective learning, designed by a Stanford-trained reading expert. The system has also been credited with the TMA's Educational Toy of the Year and People's Choice awards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning Math is Fun
Learning math can be fun.And learning shapes and colors. This book does all three.Kids play games that encourage shape recognition, counting, matching, colors and lots of fun.My daughter (not quite three) loves this book, especially the hidden numbers.I highly reccomend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Math Starter!
My 4-year old received this as a birthday present. Although it's not really challenging, it keeps her refreshed on numbers and such and the story is cute. Leap is just a wonderful product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great Leap Frog Product
My 4 year old daughter has had her Leap Pad for almost two years now and she really enjoys it and I like that it is educational (so much junk out there for little ones nowadays!!!).

I bought her "Tad Goes Shopping" for her birthday. She already knows how to count, recognizes numbers, and a few other basic skills so this is good reinforcement for her.

This book is not her favorite but she plays with it a lot anyway. So does my two year old.

The only problem is that the books are spiral bound and they tend to rip when little hands get too excited.

I would HIGHLY recommend ANY Leap Frog book!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A learning toy that grows as your child does!
My daughter received her 1st Melissa & Doug wooden toy for Christmas and boy do we love the ones we have purchase since. Any way, this clock is made of wood. The clock has 12 brightly colored shapes for each number of the clock that your child can take out and then place back into their own place. The hands of the clock are 2 different colors - the minute hand is marked minute and is red and the hour hand is blue. Printed under the hands of the clock have the numbers so your child can find what numbers go where on the clock. Also printed are the seconds and minutes in the 5 minute pie shaped increments that are also different colors. Also included are how to tell time from Quarter Past, Half Past, Quarter til and O'clock.

I love good toys that actually grow with your child and being that it's made of wood, it should last quite nicely for generations! For teaching time, I think this is terrific! Defiantely a 10 Stars! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I'd hoped...
I bought this for my son for Christmas. He is only 15 months old, but he loves to carry little things around, and we are working on animal recognition and sounds.Yes, there are small pieces, but I plan to put those away for now.The bag is larger than I had expected.I did not look at the "box dimensions" when I ordered, but that is the size of the actual bag.

There are 20 animals in confusing sizes:1 bull (large)... 7 cows (2 large, 2 small, 3 very small)... 1 pig (large)... 4 horses (1 large, 1 small, 2 very small)... 3 donkeys (1 large, 1 medium, 1 small)... 2 goats (1 large, 1 small)... 1 sheep (large)...1 dog (small). The small animals do not look like babies, just miniature adults.I was disappointed that the "complete set of barnyard animals" did not have a chicken or rooster.

As for "outstanding detail" and "realistic painting," I was kind of disappointed to see rough, glaring crease marks in the plastic, from the molds. It is durable plastic, I will say that much. The animals are heavy/solid and bendy, not brittle. There are three trees which are not so high-quality, and three very cheap hollow "rocks" which do not look like rocks.

The yellow carry case is nice.Overall, this product does not live up to the Animal Planet quality that I had anticipated, but it should suit our purpose all right. It's probably not bad for the price; a good start for an animal collection. It is much more realistic than baby-toy animals, and a refreshing break from battery-operated toys.I expect these to survive many years of rough play. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Kinda big and what't the deal with the microphone
My three year old is enjoying the helmet but it seems overly large.I'm 6' 220 lbs and can wear the hat comfortably, on him its really big.The microphone boom is not necessary and is an annoyance. We cut it out with a seam ripper and it worked well.Visibility is good with the hemet and the padding on the top is welcome.

In short it's fun, but the educational value eludes me. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Preparing for the next tea party will seem more realistic to toddlers with this play kitchen. One side of this workstation contains the prep area, with a refrigerator, sink, stovetop, microwave oven, and pantry, while the opposite side has an eating area with a toddler-sized chair and an attachable baby seat for one doll-sized guest. The electronic stovetop makes sounds of boiling, frying, or popcorn popping when kids place the included pot, pan, or teapot on it. In addition, the stove makes ticking and bell sounds for the pretend timer. The eight-piece tea set has two cups, saucers, and spoons, plus a sugar bowl and creamer. Other accessories include a divided plate with spoon and a telephone. Two AA batteries are needed to light the electronic stove and get the tea party started. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars leg doesn't fit!
This is a great little tea kitchen and my 3 yo daughter loves it, however the supporting leg doesn't fit and constantly falls off.In fact, it's laying on my florida room floor right now.If the leg snapped & locked in like other Little Tikes products, I would have given it 5 stars for durability, hands down.Perhaps this is why it ended up at Big Lots.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for what you pay for...
We got this at Big Lots for $39.99 and our little girl loves it. The leg that supports the table falls out a lot but for the price it's a nice item for my daughter's room.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Daughter Loves It!
This was a Christmas gift for my just turned 2-year old daughter. She fell in love!It was a ROYAL pain to put together as the molded plastic did not really align properly and you have to really hammer the screws through the plastic. In other words, it's not a good, clandestine, don't want to wake the kids, put-together-on-Christmas-Eve kind of present. Our set was missing a microwave door and decals.I called their customer service line and was pleasantly surprised that there was minimal hassle in getting a replacement.Overall, this is a good product and I would purchase again.I rated it rather high for educational value since it engages my daughters interest for a long period of time in pretend play (about 45 minutes at a stretch). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Needs a bit more padding to be perfect.
My 5yr old got the LeapPad writing system for Xmas, and we also needed a way for him to be responsible for his own "laptop computer".Pockets are large and wuite roomy to carry extra books & cartridges, and the two color options (boy vs. girl) is a nice touch.

The nylon fabric seems quite durable, similar to soft-sided suitcases. Will probably clean off easily too. The nylon seems strong enough to be able to hold its shape under "little boy" use for a while.

I wish it had some padding so that when my son wears it, he doesn't have such a hard object banging him on the back. He tends to run a lot. I'm sure he won't even notice all that stuff flopping around behind him, but it's something that wouldn't have been that difficult to incorporate into the design (I believe the Backpack I had some padding).

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a must have for the Leap Pad!
We got this backpack along with the leap pad and 6 other books and gave it to our son as an early Christmas gift.He loves it and the backpack is perfect! He can get everything out and play with his leap pad books and then he puts them all back up in the backpack and when we go somewhere he packs it with him to the car.I never have to worry about him losing his cartridges as they are stored safetly in the backpack pockets and everything is light weight and easy for our 3 1/2 year old to carry by him self.
GREAT ITEM!

4-0 out of 5 stars Leap to Order
For the price this is a great accessory for your LeapPad!My son gets twice the number of cartridges and books it it with plenty of room to spare. We even have some ziplocks with extras that can fit in no problem. The padded straps are easy on the shoulders and everything is neat and safely transported from grams house to friends to the doctor's office and everywhere in between. If you travel with your little one and their pad this is a great help.

Oh and big deal about the color difference.IF that's such a concern that it warrants a trip back to the store you have WAY too much time on your hands. My advice: use that extra time to read with your child!Life is too short and childhood too precious.

The price is great and IT WORKS just as it should and more.Another great Amazon offering. ... Read more
