Great concept, needs refinement
I love Melissa & Doug toys and this one is a great concept.The patterns (that you copy with beads on poles) are on sturdy wood and vary in difficulty.However, there are lots of different bead shapes, and the pictures are sometimes hard to follow -- the oval bead looks a lot like the cylinder bead, blue looks like purple, etc.I found that I had to figure out what bead each picture was supposed to represent (not easy), teach that to my son (3 yrs), and THEN let him copy the patterns.

As a teacher and mom of three, I was very happy with this toy.The kids enjoy handling the chunky beads.It can easily be adapted for toddler through kindergarten.I love all the Melissa and Doug toys. "Mostly" No-Spill, but a fun toy for a toddler
I bought this toy for my two-year-old son, and he has enjoyed playing with it.The recommended age on the toy says "2 and up," not "3 and up" as is indicated in the product information on Amazon.The bucket is a perfect size for todders to carry around, the handle is sturdy, and the bucket has a solid base that doesn't tip easily when putting the wands into the slots. It's easy to fill; just unscrew the bottom and fill with about 4 oz. of bubbles (one bottle is included with the toy).My only complaint is that some bubble solution does spill out, especially if the bucket is full.If the wands are not in the slots, and the bucket tips over or is turned upside down, about half an ounce to an ounce of liquid will spill out before it stops.If the wands are in place, liquid trickles out, then stops.So, liquid doesn't continue to spill out, but it does come out some.Overall, it's a fun outdoor toy; the wands are cute (Blue, Perwinkle, and Magenta), and they don't seem as if the faces will rub off, as has been the complaint of other BC toys from this company.If your child is a BC fan, I'd recommend this toy for some summer fun! ... Keeps kids busy!
This is a great toy. My 4-year-old loves it. The first day he had it, he played with it for over 2 hours straight! There are watercolors, markers, colored pencils - enough to keep their imagination going. This was a great buy.

Barely made it out of the box
I had high hopes for this toy. My daughter fancies herself as an artist, so I thought this would be great. I WAS WRONG! This toy is very flimsy. The pieces fell apart almost immediately. It is definitely not worth the money. It never stood upright as an easel. I was very disappointed.

Great idea but very low quality
I bought these for my son as a Christmas gift, and we just got around to opening the box to set them up yesterday.All but a couple of the brushes were cracked at the tip, and the bristles had completely fallen off a couple as a result.My son was so excited to try them so opening the box just to find that was really disappointing.I hope they resolve the quality issues and make them available again.[...]

Great idea, low quality.
I bought these for my son for Christmas this year. I actually got the set of just 4 paints wanting to try them out before spending more on a bigger set. Normally I don't like to set up painting for the kids because I have 3 small children ( 2, 3 & 5) and it's chaos. So I thought this might be a great way for my creative 5 year old to paint (as he always begs to) without the mess and stress.
It's a great idea - the water is in the bush handles and comes out a little at a time to wet the watercolor paints. But I had a couple of issues. One is that he shook the brush and of course paint went EVERYWHERE. Of course that is not different from other paintbrushes, but this had an endless supply of water to fuel it.Still it's minor, and overcome by reminding him not to shake them.
Worst problem is the low quality plastic caps. When I opened the item one of the brush heads was cracked and as soon as we removed it from the package the bristles fell out. I should have returned the item immediately, but I figured I didn't pay too much for it and we'd use the other and if we liked it we'd just buy the bigger set.But while my son used it, 2 more of the brushes developed cracks in the brush caps.Both are still working, but the cracks are getting worse and I am not sure they'll last through another use (he used it for 1/2 hour total, and I watched him so I know he wasn't hard on them at all).
I'm bummed because the concept is very good, and they do work well when they are not broken.I don't recommend them unless you want to consider them disposable.

After you spend your money, have to repair before first use
This is a great concept. No mess. I bought this for my daughter last Christmas. For some reason, I opened it before wrapping it. I was extremely dissapointed to find all but one broken. I ended up fixing it with some "magic" wax sticks that harden like plaster. Works great now. If you want to invest in $15.00 wax sticks, which you can use the sticks on other things.I would have sent it back but figured I'd get another broken set....Like others did.Don't waste your money. ... They both loved decorating these and wearing them.They are very durable, asthere was a paint spill on one, and I was able to wash it off and she could start again - no marks, and no holes. ... Garbage
I purchased this item for my 4 Year old daughter. It had to be almost pitch black in order to get a clear view of the picture to trace. Once we had a clear view, the pallet would slide all over the table top. Horrible TOY!! A RIP OFF!! Crayola just lost a customer!!!!

crayola has lowered thierstandards
i was really looking foward to my lil one having fun with this product.. it doesn't line up at all to trace,the flaps to put paper under riped as soon as we tried to place paper.. crayola really cheated us on our money (not to mention $ to pay for it to go back).The 1st time i saw such a toy,it was in a rep.toy mag. but it wasn't crayola,i thought i could trust Crayola so i went with thier version. oh well parents don't bother

The box is not a clue to the actual size
We opened the box and were shocked to find a tiny toy inside.
This was very dissapointing considering the size we were expecting. It is a 1/4 the size of the box.Four for these could have fit into the same box.Shame on crayola for tricking us.The concept is a great idea.There are 3 disks. Could have given you more disks, or sold them sepreratly like the viewmaster company does.Kids will get sick of the same picture, the pictures included are not very interesting.Mostly bugs and space theme, leans toward boys.Includes no paper and the paper size needed is not a standard one you could just buy.So the paper slips around and the final drawing we made was distorted.I have heard the full size trace and draw comes with 10 disks and is better.
I am packaging this one up this morning and bringing it back for a refund!!!! ... Read more

Lite Brite heaven
The working surface area on this unit is smaller than the original Lite Brite, but its compact size is probably moreconvenient for little hands and attention spans.

This newer model also features some improvements over the old classic including a drawer for the pegs, and the colored pegs joined into units of two, three and four pegs making for faster plugging and easier handling (see Customer Images). Can a multi-colored array of pegs offered in the format be far behnd?

This version of the Lite Brite line does not have the same impact as the original (which is not for sale on Amazon), and the battery-powered light, while low in glare, is not nearly as long-lasting or strong.

My thoughts for Hasbro: 1. Make more theme sheets such as the examples pictured in Customer Images (Customer Images under the item picture); 2. Make mutli-colored joined pegs; and 3. Distribute the lighting more evenly behind the working area; both the old and the new models capture all the light in the center of the frame.

But for under ten bucks, it's still one of the most engaging solitary games on the market. ... Read more
