5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
Another of my 3 year old's collection - he loves it and has mastered it well.Very well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finding Nemo
My son loves this game. He likes to read with it. I think it is a nice addition to the collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game !
My 4YO son loves this cartridge. The children have a choice of reading the Nemo story or playing one of four games. My son does not really like the story, but it is cute. Admittedly it is difficult for an electronic toy to beat mom's reading!

The games are great. They all have multiple skill levels and are fun and challenging. I often have to force my son to let his Leapster "rest awhile". His favorite game is trying to find the fish in the deep dark ocean. On level 2 words are displayed and you have to find the fish by listening for where the word sound is the loudest. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of fish, but my kid hasn't noticed, he is happy every time he finds one. And, instead of sounding out the A like they do with the other letters, they say "Ay".

The Nemo cartridge also has a hide-n-seek game which teaches comprehension skills. Various Nemo characters and props appear in bubbles and the Leapster asks a question such as "Who helped Nemo escape from the tank?" and the child would need to select the "Gill" bubble. I haven't seen logic games like that on the other cartridge we have.

Overall, the characters are cute, the games are educational and my kid loves it. I'd give this more stars if that were possible! ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Pixter is like a personal digital assistant (PDA) for kids. But instead of storing boring appointments and phone numbers, they get to draw, do puzzles, and learn a little, too. The Pixter is about the size of a small book, and has a pretty solid weight to it. It's made out of brightly colored and durable plastic. The main action of this toy is drawing with an attached stylus. The Color Pixter offers much better graphics then the black and white version, which comes in handy with activities like Paint-by-Numbers and Connect-the-Dots. You can draw a picture free form, or you can use one of the starter backgrounds. There are tool buttons, like on a PDA, that give you access to fun stamps, special effects, and the eraser button. You can also save your creation in the Pixter's memory. There are some boppy tunes playing along with all this creative activity, but luckily for parents, there's also a jack for headphones and a volume adjuster. An expansion slot on top of the Pixter accepts ROM-based expansion cards that contain additional software and games. Requires 4 "AA" batteries. (Not included.) --Megan Sullivan ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Pixter...Go for a Leapster
My 3-year-old loves her Leapster and plays with it in the car on long trips as well as in the house when I have to do things that leave her on her own. That's why, when I saw what looked like really fun and educational games for the Pixter, I put it on her wish list for her birthday. It'll be twice as much fun when there are more games from which to choose, I thought. But it's turned out to be a major disappointment. The screen is grainy, the interface is not intuitive, and one really has to press hard to get the screen to recognize the stylus. It's not easy even for an adult! The drawings skip and you can't drag items once they're placed: You never know where they're going to be centered before you place them. The games are not as educational as those on the Leapster, either. We bought Global Passport, Creative Genius, Barbie Fashion Show, Pet Shop, and Symphony Painter (that one is the worst!). She's using the Pet Shop a little, but that's it. Don't waste your money. Go for the Leapster...It's elegant and fun with a clear picture and sound. Now I wish I'd taken to heart the previous reviewer who bought the Leapster instead because I'm stuck with all this expensive useless nonsense. I had also bought the math, Barbie writing and Clifford cartridges, but I'm going to return those because they were bought in a brick and mortar store and haven'tyet been opened.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun!
How cool is this?! A color computer for little hands. It is a great set.The game cartridges that go along make it just as exciting as any gaming system. The basics to it are drawing and other artistic works such as stickers, shapes and fill-in colors. My son got one at the age of 4 and loved it.He broke the first one by falling on the screen, but we bought a new one because of the use of the first one. Now, nearly 2 years later, he is expanding his artistic talents by drawing with different styled lines, creating his own coloring themes and the like. Works great, day or night, as the screen is lit.We often take ours in the car because of the headphone option and volume control.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a Leapster instead
I was very disapointed in the Pixter. We returned ours and got a Leapster. The graphics and controls are so much better on the Leapster and the games are much more fun and educational. Also the Leapster is much more intuitive, a child can pick up a Leapster and figure everything out - there is even a "hint" button if the child gets stuck. A child that gets stuck with the Pixter can only look at the grainy screen and wonder where they went wrong. This toy is not worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STUFF
I purchased this for my 3 yr old, and she LOVES it--she just had a preschool screening and they said that she is doing Kindergarten level skills--It is all due to the Leapster--

She loves the games, The princess songs and games are great!

4-0 out of 5 stars fun game
My daughter really loved this game!!All of leapster's games are always fun and educational.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so great
I just bought this for my 3 year old and I have to say that compared to the other games, this one is not great at all. My daughter finds it too difficult and I think the games are boring. The Dora and Nemo games are far superior to this one and my daughter has played with those two games on and off for over a month. I'm glad I got this on sale because it didn't hold my daughters attention for even 5 minutes- I'm hoping that it will be more fun when she gets a little more coordinated but I don't think so. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars worth it's money
My 9 yr daughter got this for her birthday. She loves it.I love it.The cartridges are easy to remove and install. The unit itself is easy to handle. And the variety of software available makes it a fun, and educational game. The best of both worlds. Now that my daughter has one, my 3 yr old son wants one.I'm afraid his birthday will be a repeat of her's, gift wise, anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deal Shopper Dad
I feel this is a very good product whick keeps my kids occupied, even during those long car trips. The color screen is a definite plus and a winner. Although the basic games that come with it are the same as the original pixter, color certainly adds to it.And with the adjuster cartridge connector, the kids are able to use even the old pixter cartridges.

I first had the Original Pixter, then got the color pixter for my 7 yr old and now I'm thinking of getting another one for my 3 yr old. The price is a little high and it would be nice if it came down or atleast,if they could add one or 2 cartridges with the starter pack.

But when the kids are sitting quietly playing with the color pixter and when u get the 'much needed quiet time after a long day', I would say its well worth it.

The batteries last a while too. And,there is a undo feature...Where u click for home, under the 'save to,open file' images, there is an undo arrow. Hope this helps.

My son is almost 4 and this has been one of his favorite toys of all time.He plays with his Pixter during most of his play time.It also keeps him entertained during those times when he is bored at a restaurant. We have several games but Hot Wheels is his favorite. I don't know why, it looks boring to me but to a 4 year old it must be wonderful. He loves to draw and use the stamps on his Pixter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for every preschooler
My son received this video for his 4th birthday from his aunt. After watching it over and over for 2 days straight, not only did our son know the sound of every letter, but had also learned to create words. I only wish there was another video to continue after this one, however, it taught my son to start creating words on his own, and within a few short months, he was reading on a 1st grade level. He is not yet 5 and is reading 2nd grade books with little to no help. Definitely worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars works miracles
My son has been in speach therapy for 1 1/2 years. He did not start talking till he was 2 1/2.Now a 4 year old, he is as stubborn as I am and wouldn't sing the alphabet song with me, nothing I did could encourage him to learn his letters or his numbers.I stumbled onto this at our base exchange and he loved it.I would let him play with the sample one when we came into the store.I brought my husband to show him how interested he was in the system. So we made the investment.I am amazed. He got this system from Santa for Christmas with the letter factory cartridge and by the beginning of February, he knew all his letters of the alphabet and what sounds they make!He learned the proper way to make the L sound (hard for him)and when I correct him he starts singing the leapster song.He loves this game.I have since (March) purchased the Word factory and he is trying to READ!!He loves the "sticky letters" concept.I can't believe how well these games are made as to hold the attention of a very busy 4 year old! Who is no longer in speach therapy :)

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!
My 3 year old is starting to sound out words and spell them - all thanks to this cartridge.I take the lessons he's learned and use them in every day life - this is amazing, I believe my son will be an early reader, and this is giving him an amazing boost. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best software...if you're 8-13 years old
This software is great... but I agree the age range is off... WAY off. But I am in the 8-13 year old group so I find it very fun. Some of the games are battleship, mazes, pinball and the game where you bounce the ball on the stick and you move it back and forth to catch the ball when it falls.
Overall, I liked it allot.
If you have a smart kid that does not get fresturated easily by hard-to-move pieces when you're trying to move something.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of all color Pixter games
Challenging and fun for the whole family even my 4 year old daughter-that's who it was originally for.The Arcade games are clear and the sounds are cool. When you play the sunken ship pirate game against the "computer", my 4 year old thinks that there is actually a pirate inside the pixter, playing her. This game and the Barbie Fashion show are her favorite and keep her entertained for hours-at bedtime and in the car.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Age Group is off.

i liked this game VERY much. Only, after a while i got a little tired. The checkers game was fun at first, but to me, it wasn't a challenge. But of course that's my opinon. But over all, it was fun.

Editorial Review

Kids won't be afraid of the dark with this heavy-duty flashlight by their beds. It looks just like the one you carry in your car, but it's made for kids. For one thing, it shines in white, green, or red light with the turn of a switch, and it has an automatic shutoff. If the bar underneath the handle isn't pressed down, the flashlight will shut off in 30 seconds. It also has a manual on/off switch, so kids can feel like they're in total control. Mom or Dad will need to help install the batteries with a screwdriver, but after that kids will be off to explore the darkest corners of the closets or on a jungle safari through the living room. --Lynne Sampson ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great portable and compact flashlight for 3-yr-old hands!
We bought this flashlight for our 3-yr-old grandson, after noticing that during visits he loved to play with our 'grown-up' one. While ours was too heavy and awkward for him to manage easily, this miniature version was perfect for him! We did buy the 'Three Color Fun Light' from OneStepAhead at the same time. He found the 'Fun Light' a little more, well, ...Fun! Its multi-functional capacity really fascinated him and kept him entertained. But the 'Color Glow Flashlight' however, is easier to bring on trips and takes up less room to pack, doesn't run low on batteries quite as fast... and is, of course, simpler to use!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for little flashlight theives!
my almost 2 year old recently discovered our flashlight. living in an area prone to blackouts, i didn't like the idea of her playing with it and flattening the batteries. so i came across this product, and its just perfect for her! it switches off after 30 seconds so the batteries will last. and its educational. she has learned about the colours red and green, and says 'red!' and 'geeen!' when the colour appears on her flashlight. a fabulous alternative to flat batteries in your grownup flashlight.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best money spent so far
We got this flashlight for my son when he was a little over 2 and he is now over 4 and uses it every night in bed.It has been camping, moved 4 times, dropped, lost and found and is as good as the day we bought it.I LOVE IT, and so does my son.It fades slowly, so not to waste batteries is bright enough for him to not be scared. The perfect gift for a toddler!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Brittney says hello!
My brother gave this to my daughter for xmas, Brittney loves to talk to the princesses and she also has conversations with her big sister. The recorded messages are really cute. The phone is a bit tricky to get to stay on the base but it doesn't seem to bother my daughter. When I'm on the phone she'll reach for hers that way she isn't trying to get mine and I enjoy a more peaceful conversation.

My daughter just got this phone for her 3rd birthday. She loves to sit and talk to the Princess' and answer all of the questions they ask her. This phone doesn't hold her attention very long and she does get frustrated because the handset doesn't stay in it's holder very well. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Dora fans!!
My daughter loves this toy.it's a little hard for 3 year old hands to hold and pull the lever at the same time. You have to pull it until it clicks in order for the reel to turn.I like the binoculars, but you have to adjust the lenses just right in order for her to see out of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Dora the Explorer fans!!
I bought this for my 3 year old daughter. She loves Dora and I think that View Master is a classic toy from my childhood. I also bought other pcks of reels to go with it (Spongebob & Fairly Odd Parents). She loves it and the reels case makes it easier to travel with. The only problem I have with it is that it's too bulky for 3 year old hands. She can hold it, but not pull the lever at the same time. You also have to push te lever completly, until it clicks in order to turn the reel.We also like the binoculars, but you have to adjust the lenses just right in order for her to see out of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best "Dora" toys available
This is a really great toy.Although it is just as low-tech as ever, the binocular shape makes it very cool looking and the slides are extremely durable. Not only that it is a Dora toy that doesn't talk so we can take it with us when we travel and it is isnot annoying everyone else! With all of the hysteria over the Dora house and I must admit that I thought that my daughter would love the house more, I think that this toy was seriously overlooked. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Just Like Home - Electronic Cash Register
I guess you get what you pay for. It's very inexpensive and the first thing to go is the hand held scanner, and it goes very quickly.I brought it back to the store for another, but the scanner for that one broke quickly also, and the salesperson said that there were a lot of complaints about that for this item.My daughter accumulated a lot of play money in different denominations so she could learn to count money, but alas, the drawer was too small to accommodate it. (The money that comes with the register is not realistic-looking, so it doesn't promote currency and coin recognition.)Basically, this toy may be fine for young children, but it doesn't grow with them because it won't last and even if it did, it has limitations that prevent its use from being expanded as your child's skills advance.Unless you're not interested in durability, longevity or educational value, you're better off with the Pretend and Play cash register from Learning Resources for three times the price of this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
My Daughter loved this toy, I guess a little too much the second day the microphone stopped working, the Conveyor Scanner stopped beeping and the credit card slider stopped making noise as well. Buy anything else but this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best educational fun toy!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment
My kids love SpongeBob so I thought this would be a big hitBut it turned out to be a BIG mistake and a BIG waste of money!
Our Pixters were gifts last Christmas and they are still favorites. Most of the game cartridges are great too, just don't waste your money on this one.My son played with it for approx. 5 minutes, said it was no fun at all.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring...
Don't waste your money on this Pixter game.My kids are fans of Sponge Bob, but this game loses interest quick. It is not challenging. The music is original from the show-that's about the only fun part of it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not recommend
My family and I love the pixter. We have an assortment of cartridges and they are great for our girls, and they love Spongebob so I thought this would be a great addition to their pixters.Wrong, this game is not enjoyable for them.As my oldest daughter but it "This is boring".The only term I can relate to it is "generic". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great item at a great price
My son has not stopped playing with this since we brought it home. For the price, it is a great quality and works great. It has a turntable inside that turns just like the real microwaves. The accessories that come alone with it are very durable. Can't beat this item for the price!

1-0 out of 5 stars sucky toy
this toy is really not good. I know cause I used to have one and it wood always be brokeded down. you guys reely shoodin'by this toy cause its ungood.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Attention Keeper
My 18-month old son loves this toy! And what a deal at $10. It is quite realistic with a timer and turntable. While the timer is counting down a green light comes on which then turns red when the food is ready. And the included foods are cute and more nutritous items than some other playsets. This really has kept his attention and helped him learn to manipulate the buttons to make the oven work. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not up to Disney standards
We received this toy as a gift for my 4 year old.It says 4-9 year old recommended but most of the functionality is for minimum 7 year old readers. The drawer did not open until I pried it open with a screwdriver (almost breaking it.)The paper money ripped as I tried to separate it from the package. The calculator function would not make sense to anyone under 9 years old. You need to press the buttons in a specific order to make the calculator work properly otherwise you just end up with a lot of ERROR messages on the display. We have another electronic cash register that I paid (...) for at a dollar store that makes a lot more sense for this age range.

2-0 out of 5 stars The quality is very disappointing.
My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves to play with this register, but often gets frustrated because the drawer doesn't work right and the screen only works sometimes.

This was an expensive toy and I wish I had read the reviews before I bought it.I plan on writing the company and complaining.Hopefully other shoppers will avoid the problems I (and the other buyers) have encountered.

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK!
My daughter was so excited to buy this with her Christmas money and ended up disappointed and frustrated when we got it home and it wouldn't work right out of the box.The drawer won't open, there was very little money. The paper money ripped when we took it out of the box because it was stuck to the box w/rubber cement. It's heading back to the store tonight!Biggest piece of junk we've spent $22 on! ...
