Editorial Review

Lift the pieces in this sturdy wooden puzzle to reveal the animals hiding underthe colorful farm scene. A barn, a truck, a chicken coop, a haystack, a wagon, and busheshide a collection of animals, including pigs wallowing in the mud, chickens roosting, acat perching up high in the barn, and a cow waiting to be milked, plus a horse, dogs, andducks. Assemble the puzzle again to put everyone away until the next game of peekaboo. This is a terrific puzzle for the very young--each of the approximately 1.5-by-3-inchpieces features a grip knob to help maneuver the pieces into place. --Richard Farr ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wholesome fun for kids starting at age one!
I bought this puzzle when my firstborn was one year old and he has loved playing with it as has his little brother. There is something very appealing (and wholesome) about kids loving farm animals...even those living in the suburbs with no farm in sight.

As with all the wooden peg puzzles from this manufacturer, the quality is high and they are very durable. The key to this brand, unlike others in same price range, is that the photo is idential underneath as on the piece itself. This is key for one year olds and even two year olds to master using the puzzle. I have seen both my kids struggle when 1 or 2 with different puzzles that are blank underneath or worse, show a different scene under the piece than on the piece.

I think it is wise to start off right at age one with the wooden peg puzzles as a plaything. My kids also play with the pieces separately from just making the puzzle. After they've mastered matching the piece and fitting it in, usually when they are around 2 they can do the different puzzles that don't have the image underneath.

Doing matching exercises and fitting these pieces into their proper places aids with hand eye coordination and thinking skills. Every child should have several of these puzzles of their own to play with.

The puzzle holder by this manufacturer is very useful to store the puzzles when they are not being played with and I highly recommend that as well.

This is a great gift for any holiday!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never too young for this puzzle
The smallest piece is about 1 1/2"x2 1/2". The pegs are not removable even by hands of adults. The company guaranteed non-toxic and child-safe(age 2-4) on the back of this toy.
The board and puzzle pieces are thick and very durable.
The pictures are colorful and cute. Children show an interest in the farm animals in their early age. I think you can teach these animals to babies and show them how to fit the piece in the spot even they can't do it themselves. My son is 24 month old, and it's too easy for him. He still play but just to show me he can do it. I recommend to children, age 12 month and maybe younger with parent's supervision to prevent from choking just in case. The younger children will need your help to play with this toy anyway.... You might be able to find a bargain.

5-0 out of 5 stars High quality puzzle that lasts
I got this puzzle for my girl's first birthday. She loves it. It is a very high quality toy that should last forever. The animals pictures are very colorful and well painted. She still chews on everything, but has not been able to damage this puzzle in any way. The pegs really help her pick up the peices and set them down (not in the right place yet), and the pegs are not removeable like I was worried about, but are buried deep in the wood and are very safe. I highly recommend this puzzle for all children over a year old. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sound puzzles
Wow! What a great concept! I bought the animal puzzle first and my daughter loved it, so I bought this one. While the sounds are great, they can be a little distracting. Our puzzles also sound off at night when the lights are turned off or if the sun shines on them. (Which means batteries can run down fast!)
The xylophone puzzle actually comes with songs to play, but unless your child has a good memory it will be hard for her/him to reconize the song. The pieces fit but are slow going in.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great idea but annoying!
My daughter got this toy as a gift on her first birthday. We were just getting into puzzles and I thought the sounds would encourage her to put the peices in. A regular puzzle kept her intrest just as well as this one.

The toy is light senstive so that when they put a peice correctly in the puzzle it will make the approriate animal sound. And it works just fine for that but if your child happens to leave one of the peices out or worse loses one you could be listening to monkeys and zebras all day! ... Read more

"Find Buzzy's pillow. Now reach out your arm. Your conference call'searly--reset your alarm." Oh, if only there was a set of Pilly Winks bedtimepillows for adults. Alas, this adorable quintet of colorful, stitched, cushymini-pillows is designed to provide storybook bedtime guidance to little ones.As an adult reads the rhymes from the illustrated book, youngsters areencouraged to choose the appropriate animal-friend pillow and complete the get- ready-for-bed task, whether picking up their toys while quacking like Tip Topthe Duck, or putting on their jammies while marching and smiling like PJ theBear. Kudos to Aristoplay for the most delightful thing to happen to children'sbedtime since the advent of the nightlight. --Tony Mason ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great idea!
And what fun bedtime is now! My guys (2 and 4 year olds) love acting out the activities. The Pilly Winks are delighful friends to spin, march, hop, quack and snuggle with. I sent the Pilly Winks pillows and book along with my kids to my sister's (their aunt) for a sleepover and it made bedtime easier for her, too. I especially liked that the whole activity doesn't take a long time...but is a special time. Very cute.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a normal bedtime!
We love this product! Our 4 year old was; to say the least, a difficult child to get to bed.She knew all the excuses and every night turned into a hassle just to get her to sleep. Then we were given Pillywinks as a gift.
Bedtime now consists of reading one book (instead of 10) and fun activities that seem to use up that excess bedtime energy children seem to have. She sleeps with all the pillows and now the only problem we are having is getting her to let her little brother sleep with one.Maybe a Pillywink version regarding sharing would be good? ... Editorial Review

This game is designed to help preschoolers develop memory and matching skills. It's a simple game that can be enjoyed alone or by up to four players. Each of the 48 picture cards has an animal illustration. Cards are placed face-down and players take turns overturning two cards. If the animal pictures on the cards match, that player keeps those cards and continues to reveal picture cards, two at a time, until the cards don't match. Play continues until all picture cards have been matched up. The player with the most matching pairs at the end of the game wins. --Alison Golder ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Do You Know What a Dromedary IS?
Do You Know What a Dromedary IS?Well, I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I didn't know what one was until my son received the "My First Brain Quest: Animal Matching" game for his 2nd birthday.

"My First Brain Quest: Animal Matching" game is recommended for children 2 to 5 years old.I?d say it?s more appropriate for children that are 3 and 4-years old.In my experience, 2-year olds don?t have the patience to sit, and wait to take turns, and 5-year olds would be bored. The concept is excellent? using your memory to match pairs; however, I wonder why this particular animal menagerie was selected.Considering the game is targeted at 2-year olds, wouldn?t it make more sense to focus on common creatures seen in zoos, as opposed to exotics?I?ve never seen a dromedary, and I think it?s expecting a lot from a 2-year old to compare, and contrast one to a camel.

When William received this game he wasn?t developmentally ready to play it as intended, so we talked about the animals. We discussed where they live, and the sounds they make. Some of the pictures confused him; as a result, I separated them to avoid frustration. The images on the cards are full-color illustrations rather than photographs.I?ve noticed that toddlers seem to retain information better when realistic images are used in books and in games.I wouldn?t call the images animated, but they are stylized. These pictures do resemble their real-life counterparts, although some have more of a creative twist than others.

Now that William?s 3-years old we can play the game. He?s learned how to distinguish between the animals, and how to focus so he remembers the placement of the cards. He?s also learning how to be patience, and how to take turns. He sometimes gets excited, and takes a turn out of order, but that?s to be expected.William likes the ?animal game,? as he calls it, and mommy fancies the time together with her son.Mommy also loves the broad smile that spreads across her sons face when he matches a pair."My First Brain Quest: Animal Matching" game is educational and rewards achievement; consequently, it?s a winner in my book.

Happy Playing,
Mary

5-0 out of 5 stars Brain Quest Animal Matching
This is an excellent and fun game for my 2 1/2 year old, my husband, and me to play.It is also a game that I haven't grown tired of (which is important...as I'm sure you'll agree). This game reinforces vocabulary (24 different animals), taking turns, and consentration (you must pay attention to be able to make a match).I would recommend this game for young children. My son wants to play it every day and hasn't grown tired of it in the month that we've owned it (nor have I).We also own the Brain Quest Lotto game, which is fun as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE Brain Quest!!
Brain Quest does it again! My older daughter has the decks, and my 2 year old son got this for his birthday. We don't turn the cards face down to play (as the instructions say), but lay them out face up so he can pick out the matching cards to be put back in the box.He loves seeing and naming the different animals. When he doesn't want to play this way, he enjoys dumping the box out just to watch the cards fall. It's one of the few things with a bunch of pieces that I don't mind having around!Gave it a 4 for durability, just because the cards are made of paperboard and can easily be lost or ruined. But this is a great "toy," and I will be looking at the other preschool Brain Quests for him, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars We love this toy!!!
I read the other reviews and cannot believe we all own the same toy.My 2 year old loves this toy sooo much that it is never out during playgroup. He loves sliding the different puzzles in and out and dropping the shapes through.

I love this toy because it challenges him--I only wish it had more shapes instead of the basics.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too many problems
The box lacks a "floor" so blocks fall through after the package is opened. The paint chips off quite easily. My daughter enjoys it, but she gets frustrated because it does not perform well.

1-0 out of 5 stars A dud
Sadly, this toy was a dud.It wasn't challenging for my then-2 year old, as it only had 5 shapes.Furthermore, it wasn't much fun either! The sliding scenes were tedious and frustrating for her, as she couldn't change them herself. This toy now lives in the "old toy" closet in our guest room. She regularly raids the closet on impulse, but never pulls this toy off the shelf. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Farm and Vehicle sounds blocks a must for all children
My son received these for Christmas and his1st Birthday. He loves it when he matches up the animals or vehicles and makes them make the sounds. He hasn't mastered it but has more fun with it.And now that he's 2 1/2 he's even more interested in how it works.Although a word of caution. When he was teething he thought these blocks were great to scrape his gums on.Which would have been fine because they are smooth but they have the little rubber dots to contend with.He managed to pop off one and now the ambulance doesn't sound. And he did not swollow the dot (which is easy to have happen). But these are essential cause and effect toys that all children will love.We gave our neice the farm set and she still plays with it daily.Great toy but another little thing to remember with the rubber dots...supervise and count the dots!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, unique gift!
We received this toy for Christmas and our 1-year-old loves it! He hasn't yet mastered putting the blocks in order, but when we put it together for him, he laughs with delight. He picks up the blocks, chews on them, etc. and we have had zero problems.

Older kids (and - funniest of all - adults!) who play with it adore this toy. A great buy - who can beat under $10 for a classic wooden toy with a twist?

We have the Vehicle Sounds version of these blocks - both are very cute and a perfect birthday gift! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great puzzles, but the shelving unit fell apart
My 12-month-old loves these puzzles and will play with them every day.She can't put the pieces back by herself yet, but the large knobs are helping her learn. We are really disappointed in the shelving unit, though. It is made of particle board and fell apart the same day we got it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for Young Kids
Beware of the manufacturer's age on this toy. They say its appropriate for 12 months and up but I disagree. My son put one of these pieces in his mouth and it started to come apart...I'm not sure if its the "sticker" with the animal on it or if the wood itself started to splinter, but I put these puzzles away for when he's a lot older. Its a shame because he enjoyed just banging the pieces together...but I'm not willing to take the chance that he'll get a splinter caught in his throat when I'm not looking.I did give it 4 stars, however, because I can tell my son will enjoy these as he gets a little older.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Toy-Beware storage box
My daughter loves these puzzles. They are great for teaching interactions with her.The large knobs are perfect for her to maneuver. My only concern is the storage box.It is very heavy if pulled down by your child. Also, the puzzles often don't slide in the slots straight(will tilt off the track) and this causes the puzzle to jam in the box. This is extremely frustrating to my daughter who likes to take the puzzles out and slide them back in.Good solution would be to just keep the wood storage box out of reach. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Quickly forgotten
My 14 month-old was not very interested with wooden puzzles, so I thought adding noise to them would change that.Unfortunately, it took him about 25 minutes to figure out that all he had to do to was to step on the right piece of the puzzle to make the sound come out. He has since then stopped trying to place each piece in the puzzle and is not even amused by stepping on it any more. Overall, this toy lasted 3 days. The sounds are also very electronic (fake) and they will sound when you switch the lights on, when you step beside the cupboard where they have been stored, or for no apparent reason! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Educational, cheap and FUN!
My 20-month-old adores this set. I originally bought this to put on the hardwood floor in her bedroom but it's never made it. We use them as blocks instead. They're soft, she can stack them high and not hurt herself, they bounce, she can tear them apart and we can put them back together however we want. We're hoping to get another set or two to build bigger things.

For the record, Amazon puts the manufactures age range and then lists what age range they think the item is good for. For our daughter, this was the perfect age.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZON NEVER HAS CORRECT AGES LISTED! ! ! !
Like the other reviewer wrote about the age. I have purchased this product and my son loves it! (He is 2 but doesn't put things in his mouth he shouldn't) the package does say 3+ though. I have noticed on alot of items Toys R Us/Amazon sells they almost always have the age wrong!!! We have alot of toys and I shop in Toys R' Us alot and the ages online hardly ever match that on the actual item. Maybe we should start emailing them about this!

2-0 out of 5 stars Age Listed On Amazon's Site Doesn't Match Packaging
I ordered this based on the starting age appropriateness of 18 months that Amazon lists as both the manufacturer's and their recommended age level. The package arrived today, and it clearly states that it is for 3+ year olds.I'd say for this age, it probably is a good investment. But, it certainly is not for a younger age as they tell you on their site.Honestly, I should've known better myself given that it is foam and younger toddlers still put most things in their mouths. ...
