Editorial Review

In an age that seems convinced high tech is always better, it'snice to see such an intelligently low-tech approach to teaching theworld's greatest board game. This is simply a standard plasticStaunton-style chess set--with one big difference. Each piece is markedwith its name, its value, and the directions in which it can legallymove when moving or taking. The large (2-inch), hollow pieces arelightweight and feel pretty flimsy, but in fact they're sturdy andtheir extra-wide bases give them the stability that small, clumsyfingers need. A folding board and instructions are included with theset. The instructions, unfortunately, are weak; they're best used as anaid to memory by someone who has already had the gameexplained. --Richard Farr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun one on one time
I found the game pieces with the proper moves for each piece to be very helpful for my six year old.He plays the game taking his time thinking and planning ahead without asking many questions about the "allowed" moves for the piece. It has made the game with him exciting, he feels more confident, and I love our one on one time together. It is a great teaching set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
As a collector of Monopoly sets I admit there is little variation on the rules or formula between them. But Scooby Doo Fright Fest (the second Scooby Doo Monopoly incarnation) offers a little more variation and feels `newer' than say Simpsons Monopoly.

The packaging and artwork are beautiful, the `Funny Money' dollars are minted, the Community Chest and Chance cards are now called Zoinks and Jinkies, boring hotels and houses are now Snack Shacks and Burger Joints and the playing pieces are obviously the Mystery Inc. Gang and their Mystery machine.

Out of zillions of Monopolies to choose from Scooby Doo Fright Fest is one of the best. And it's an absolute MUST for Scooby Fans. Shame on you if you don't have it already. Plus, as this game is easy to identify with for the kids, it's probably appropriate for most kids aged 8+.

This Colorforms Dress-Up Activity Set helps teach two crucial things that are often difficult for kids to learn: taking turns and coordination. Each player begins with a shiny cardboard character wearing a swimsuit and in desperate need of fashion assistance. The object of the game is to assemble a fabulous Colorforms outfit for your character. Spin the spinner for type of clothing--shoes, skirt or pants, shirt, purse, glasses, necklace, or hat.Pick out the piece that's just right and place it on your character--it sticks like magic! The first person to complete an ensemble wins the game. No reading is required, so once kids understand the rules they can play independently. --Lisa Whipple ... Read more

This 84-piece jigsaw puzzle assembles into the 48 contiguous United States, plus Alaska and Hawaii. The pieces are large enough to be safe for curious little ones and make for a fun and truly hands-on lesson in geography. The mapping is detailed enough to highlight major cities and towns, as well as rivers and some topography. To test your smarts, try constructing it without the benefit of a map. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
I had tried to order this last Christmas but it sold so well that it was out of stock!Great price & a great buy,i signed up for the waiting list & finally got it a couple of days ago.Its really hard to find a good map of the US & at a good price. This covers every state, has the major cities marked & the capitols are marked.I had looked at other maps in the store but never bought one because it didnt have the things i was looking for.Plus they were very expensive. This will help our child with learning where all the states are & to know the capitols. We all have to learn them for school & this is a fun way to do it.Also a way for the rest of the family to brush up on this information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should have one of these puzzles!
I don't know how they can sell this so inexpensively, as this puzzle is of very high quality and would be very beneficial to kids of all ages who need to learn more about US geography.I was surprised at how much my nephewenjoyed it, even though he is just six years old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't throw this one away!
When we moved across the country, we decided to garage sale many of our daughter's toys, including this puzzle, which we assumed she had outgrown. As soon as we got to our new address, she demanded the puzzle and wasalarmed to hear that we'd sold it.She has asked about it so often duringthe past year, that it is now clear to us: we need to purchase it again andwill not discard it, even when the day comes for her to go to college! Ittruly helped her become the geography whiz she is now, at age 7!Parentsout there: buy it and keep it! It's an amazing deal and a most educationaltoy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More fun more sturdy version of a classic board game
My daughter who's almost 3 has little idea of how to play and is yet very excited about playing it, because it has the familiar Sesame Street characters that she loves. We tried the original, but she quickly lost interest, because the pieces are flimsy and hard to play with.

The pawns are much better than the original. The original has annoying cardboard pieces that fit into plastic stands.Sesame Street has 4 sturdy solid plastic pieces that are Zoe, Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster. My daughter enjoys playing with these pieces just on their own.The pieces have wide bases, which makes it easy to stand them up.However only one piece will fit on a square at a time.

Like the original Chutes and Ladders, the game consists of a board of 100 squares, and a spinner with the numbers 1 to 6. The board seems visually appealing to kids, because my daughter just likes to look at it sometimes. As far as I can tell, the placement of the chutes and ladders is the same as in the original. The chutes mostly show accidents of various Sesame Street characters like tripping on a banana peel. Unlike the original, there's only two chutes that show morals: Zoe won't share with Elmo and Cookie Monster eats too many cookies and gets a stomach-ache. The ladders show the kindness or heroism of Sesame Street characters like cooperation. So the board has a more positive feeling than the original.

The spinner is separate from the box which is nice.

For those not familiar with the original, here's a further review. You take turns. You spin the spinner and move your piece the appropriate number of spaces. If you land at the top of a chute, you slide down it to a different space. If you land on at the bottom of a ladder, you climb up to a new space.

It's a very simple game which teaches young kids how to count, recognize numbers, take turns, and deal with the wins and losses of playing a game.Like most simple kids' games, it's pretty boring unless you're playing it with someone who's still learning these skills and is excited about it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perquaky is always a hit...a word game for all ages
Perquacky is a great game. We have introduced so many friends to the game and it's always an instant hit.It looks easy.It looks fascinating. You can't wait for your turn to test your abilities.Certainly you can build 5 three, four and five letter words before your time is up. Of course you can get at least a few 6 or 7 letter words. But once the sand starts running through the hour glass, the tension sets in. All eyes are on you. Will you choke? This game is loads of fun for anyone who can put a word together. You can learn to play in a few minutes, but it will keep you going for hours. As a bonus, it's compact and easy to carry most anywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best all around
This game consists of 12 cubes (dice with letters on all 6 sides), a timer, and simple rules. You roll the cubes and make up to 5 3-, 4-, 5- etc. letter words as you can until your hourglass timer runs out.You can adapt it so that younger and older players can compete by restricting the number of cubes for older players.Fun, educational, and addictive. If you love scrabble, you'll really love this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Educational , and fun!!
I'm a teacher, I played this game when I was a child and loved it! Now I use it in my classroom for reading groups and to make learning fun for low readers as well as advanced readers! 4-0 out of 5 stars OK GAME
This is an ok kids handheld game.I agree w/everyone else that it definately needs an off switch. My daughter keeps hers in my car so instead of sounding off in the middle of the night it sounds off with every turn I make! Also sometimes my daughter is trying to push the buttons to select the answer and they do not work. She is continuously yelling "I did push it!" as if the game can understand her:)Overall it is a good idea though and has different levels for beginers. You can just chose different body parts to make a silly potato or it will flash an already made potato and then you have to choose the correct parts, very good memory game(plus some more games that I have not personally tested). It is a little loud and of course being a potato head ithas an annoying voice but has been well played with by my 4 year old.

5-0 out of 5 stars my son never laughed so hard
My son recently received this as a second hand gift from his 7 year old cosin. The toy lasted 3 solid years in her hands and only 4 days in my son's. Only due to the fact that he hit the screen with a toy hammer. This toy captured my son's attention. He actually sat in one spot motionless for almost an hour. I have never heard my son laugh so hard as to when Mr. Potato head sneezes and says,"oops, I've lost all my parts". As for the "off" switch, it turns itself off there fore saving the batteries, and it only turns itself back on unprovoked when the batteries are dying.

5-0 out of 5 stars A busy Mom
My daughter is five and loves this toy. I was actually shocked to see so many poor reviews. The automatic shut off isnt that bad, it's actually a blessing if you ask me, It prompts the child to play (pay attention) about 4 times and then shuts itself off.

My daughter loves the different activities it offers, and she just totally gets a kick out of making Mr. Potato head dress silly. ... Read more

Editorial Review

It’s important to note for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans that this is a stand-alone board game, not part of the main Yu-Gi-Oh! card collecting and dueling game. The rules are simple, but there are enough interesting twists to keep it interesting and fresh, with lots of room for strategy. Players--whose goal it is to quest for a magical pyramid--assume one of four characters, with each character represented by a game token and a card reader. The card reader is the most interesting aspect of the game, as it makes the value of each card vary by character; making your choice of character a matter of tactics more than which one you think looks the coolest. The game pieces all have nice detail, especially the character tokens that are detailed down to the level of facial expression. If the flimsiness of the game board makes it less than heirloom quality, that’s a small flaw in an otherwise fun and well-thought out game.--David Stoesz ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disapointed nephew
this game was a gift to my nephew aged 6, he grew tired and frustrated as the instructions i received in the box was a half a page long and had no real help at all! sentences like, and i quote: "the other cards put over there" with no diagrams of any sort, how did i know where "over there" was for all i know it could have been on my head! the game is okay when you realise how to play it but i would be firing the instruction writer, and telling him to learn how to make sense, if he knows english! to people interested, seek further instruction on the internet, and good luck

Two old favorites often make a winning combination when they are brought together, as is proven here in this Pooh edition of Candy Land. Winnie the Pooh and his friends, Eeyore, Piglet, and Tigger, move along the winding path of the game board, picking up treats for a picnic in the 100 Acre Wood. No reading is required to play. Children draw cards and then use their color-recognition and symbol-matching skills to advance to the appropriate location on the board. Many adults will recognize this classic game from their own childhood and will enjoy sharing it with the kids now in their lives. A.A. Milne's familiar and enduring Pooh characters will ease children into the often-difficult concept of taking turns!--Wendy Slotboom ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Pooh Lover but not this game!!
My 4 & 2 1/2 year olds love Pooh but this game is not what I expected. There are MANY pieces that pop into the board to decorate it and they get in the way of the game. But my biggest complaint of this game is the colors. They are NOT your traditional Red, Oragne, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Green they are in between colors like yellow-orange, grenish-blue, orange-red etc.YIKES!!I am trying to teach my kids the colors as we play the game and I have trouble naming the colors.I donated my Pooh game and bought the regular Candy Land!!The colors are more vibrant and not mistakable for another color!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not happy with this game.
I wasn't sure about the game before I bought it, and now that I own it.I really dislike it!

This is why:

The game looks more like a Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party than a Picnic.

The gameboard feels very cluttered with all of the winnie the pooh cardboard standing parts.

The gameboard is even worse because because the colored squares seem extra small, and the playing pieces are extra big.

Eeyore, if placed on the board with his head facing forward, will take up 3 spaces.

The colors are not simple colors making the teaching value of this game very poor.

I suggest buying the original game, because this one is truly not that good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Cute
My 4 year old son loves Candy Land, but having his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood in the game adds tons more fun.He definitely enjoys this very playful version a lot more than the original.A must first game for your Pooh lover! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome individual game
I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 18 month old. I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old just on a whim. She loves it and it gives me time to get a few things done while she's playing. It's very cute and she likes to dance to the song.
It's pretty educational. Although, I think she might be a tad bit too old for it, but who cares as long as she's having fun?!
I think it's fantastic toy and well worth the price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great "game" for a 2 year old...
We had bought this handheld game for our 'almost' 2 year old daughter to put in her stocking on Christmas, however, as you can tell from the date of this review - we gave it to her early!LOL!

She loves animals - so I knew she would love this 'game'.She has pretty much mastered it - but that does not stop her from wanting to play with it time and time again. She loves that she can match the baby animals with their mommys and she LOVES hearing the sounds that the animals make! She also really likes to sing along with the song "Old Macdonald"!

The three different game levels are easy for a 2 year old to understand. The first is just going through the animals - pushing a button and then listening as it sings through the 'Old Macdonald" song - putting in the name of the animal that was pushed. The second game level is matching the Mommy and babies!VERY CUTE!And my daughters FAVORITE game! The game will say something like, "Can you help the mommy horse find her baby?" and when the correct button is pushed it will sing through the song again. The third game is a sound matching game.It will ask you "who's mommy makes a sound like this" and then it will make the sound of one of the animals and then the child is to identify which animal makes that sound.Again, when the correct 'button' is pushed it will sing through the song.

Overall - it's a great game and can keep a child entertained for a good period of time! ... Read more

Editorial Review

This classic game of luck, strategy, and determination is easy to grasp forchildren as young as 6 years old, yet it's fun for adults and older siblings too. ThisDisney-themed version features such classic Disney characters as Cruella De Vil, Bambi,Dumbo, the Little Mermaid, Snow White, Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan, and Tarzan. Bydrawing cards, players move their game pieces around the board, hoping to eventuallyaccumulate all their pieces at the final destination--home sweet home. Sorry is known asthe game of "sweet revenge," since players can send each other's pawns back to thestarting line, thus forcing one another to lose ground and begin all over again. This kindof frustration may be hard for children under age 8 to handle. In fact, young onestypically crumble into tears of outrage when their pawns are cavalierly sent back. Theonly recourse is to teach children how to plot their own revenge, which makes them feelas powerful as superheroes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super fun!
We all enjoy playing this game. The disney theme makes it so much more enjoyable than the regular one. It teachs them to listen to directions. By far this is my daughter's (age 6) favorite game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sorry!
I have so much fun playing this game.Even my Dad gets into this game. It is wonderful as it is now turned into Disney and I love Disney themed items a lot.I have always enjoyed Sorry! And now that there is a Disney version I am quite happy.I think board-games are great as they bring people together and this is one that I have fun playing with my family and friends and it doesn't matter your age.You will love it long as you like Sorry! But it is even better for one if they are a Sorry! And Disney fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game is FUN - much better than the original
Okay - I agree that the playing pieces could be better. It would help if they were encased in plastic as they are in the Disney Princess Spinning Wishes Game. But just tell your kids to be careful and not to bend them and you'll be just fine. You get a group of 4 characters to take around the board. One group is villians, another includes Disney animals (Dumbo, Bambi, etc.), another is Princesses and the last group includes Disney Heroes (Hercules and more). The characters add a lot of fun and energy to the game.If your kids like Disney, they will like this.Worth the time, in my opinion. ... Blue, yellow, pink, and green flies whiz through the air as a big-mouthed frog snaps at them. Not recommended before naptime, this is a fast and furious game to see who can flip the most flies into the frog's mouth as it spins around opening and closing its gaping maw. From two to four players, each player picks one color for both hand and flies and then flings the plastic insects until all 10 have been fed to Mr. Mouth. The first to get 10 flies in Mr. Mouth wins the game. --Lynne Sampson ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars fair toy
Over the Christmas season I purchased this toy for one of my kids, one for a niece and one for a nephew.I was so excited because I remember having this toy when I was a child. Well, I guess they didn't bother to make the toy a better product then it was 25 years or so ago. It's still fun to play but is not a very durable toy.The legs constantly pop off and when the mouth gets a certain amount of bugs in it the head starts to make a grinding sound and doesn't work properply.Just wish I remembered that before I bought three of them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Look elsewhere
I bought this toy because my 5 year old son really wanted it.We purchased this for Christmas and we were all looking forward to playing it.We were very disappointed in the product. You have to use an arm to flip the flies into the frog's mouth which sounded easy enough. We found out that is was anything but easy. You had to push the arm just right in order to get a fly in the mouth.Too much, and it would go right over the mouth. You had to recognize how much is how much, and after 5 minutes my son (and myself) were fed up with trying to get 10 flies in the mouth. The 4 arms that attach to the mouth are not secure, you can't really move the game without everything falling off.
I would definitly not recommend this game to anyone. After buying this product and re-reading the reviews, almost all of them say that the flies are hard to get in the mouth, I just didn't know HOW hard it was.Look elsewhere for a better game.

5-0 out of 5 stars My girls love it!
I bought this for my 3 and 5 year old daugthers. They play it every day.It is sometimes hard for the litte one to get the flies into the frogs mouth, but she just loves flicking them in the air.It was worth the purchase! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game - learning while they have fun
What a great game -- My 6-year old twin girls received this for Christmas. One can play alone against the Leap Pad or they can play against each other. The questions get a little more difficult as they answer correctly. They're building on what they learned in school and they're having so much fun they don't realize they're learning something new.I'll have to get the older kid version in a year or two.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind wars junior is a BLAST!
My 7 and 6 year old LOVE their new game, mind wars junior. It is like trivial pursuit in different subject areas, like language, math, physical science, life science and social studies...to give you an idea, it has questions dealing with various subjects, like Christopher Columbus, gases, elements, Antartica, Martin Luther King Jr. and lots more.... My kids didn't want to stop playing it is very easy to hook up, all you do is plug it in your system set the board on the leap pad, turn it on and play... It is very EASY to understand and they even have a repeat button, and volume control on the game, all the kids have to do, is go around as many spaces as the game tells them after they push the button, then they answer various questions, and first one to close all 5 subject windows wins! There is multiple choice, and also true and false questions...lots of fun! :) Very happy with this item! Keep up the awesome work leap frog! I loved watching them play... I give this a DEFINATE 5 star rating!Next, I will have to get the one for older kids....3rd grade up.... ... Read more
