5-0 out of 5 stars The best boardgame you will ever play in your life!!!
It took me about 15 minutes to learn how to play and the i wanted to keep on playing. I started to get nervous too. This game is all about what your plan is and whatever you do try to get Asia and Euroup. WARNING: You may get hooked on this game and stay up to 2:25 playing it with your friends!!(true story! I did that.)

5-0 out of 5 stars world domination is fun
this game is awesome but could be better. the game got 1 star in educational value because of the misshaped continents (for example one part of europe is half the size of asia) the durability is ok because the pieces are so small you can literally inhale them. the gameplay is smooth and not very complicated. the object is to rule the world and to do that you must attack the opponent. the world is divided into 42 territories, 8 for each continent. each turn you get extra troops or reinforcements to place on your terriotores to strengthen them. to take over territories you must conduct invasions. an invasion is (your) effort(s) to take over a territory. one invasion may consist of one or many short rounds called battles. battles are actually based purely on luck, not strategy. the strategy comes in when you're deciding when and where to attack and where you place your reinforcements. overall this is a great game but it takes hours to finish a game. ... SET is a card game of quick recognition and deduction. Each card contains one of three symbols (squiggles, diamonds, ovals) in varying numbers (up to three), colors (purple, green, red), and degrees of shading. A dealer arranges 12 cards, face up, and the players--without taking turns--hastily scrutinize the images for logical "sets" of three cards linked by combinations of sameness or difference. It's not as complicated as it sounds: examples include a trio of paired ovals with increasing levels of shading between cards, or disparate symbols in different colors which increase in number on each card (card one has a green squiggle, card two a pair of purple ovals, card three a trio of diamonds). The trick is to keep calm while trying to make the rapid connections. The Darwinian nature of the game (remember: everyone plays simultaneously) is certain to cause some feistiness among more competitive players. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite game for years
Forget those expensive boxed party games... Set beats them hands down. Truthfully, this has been our favorite for years. Why? Here are my reasons:

* Any number of players can enjoy the game. How many great games are there on the market, but they are limited to 3-4 players? With Set, my wife and I can enjoy a quiet game at home, or we can take it to a party and invite all takers.

* It doesn't discriminate. Truthfully, I think any kid ten years or older would be at no disadvantage vs. adults. It's simple pattern recognition, and it's surprising sometimes which players are good at it and which players aren't so good.

* It's portable. Seriously, just keep a deck in your car, and take it anywhere.

* It's online! I play the Setgame daily puzzle every day, and it is a great way to keep in practice. Try it out for yourself at the company's website.

Set is a fantastic game. It's true that sometimes new players are frustrated for a while (they will typically see three of the four patterns, and make a lot of false calls), but if you're patient with them while they learn, they catch on fairly quickly. By your second time through the deck, they are doing fine. Get this game; you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST game for all ages!
I got this game for my 5 year-old daughter at Christmas, and we are hooked! It's challenging for her, but she gets it; I am so addicted to it that I go to the SET website every day to solve the daily puzzle!(Which, I might add, is excellent for learning how to play the game and for practice.)At the SET Enterprises site, you can also buy a PC version of the game if you prefer this to using cards, as I do.

I gave this three stars for durability only because this is played with cards--like any card game, they can get lost, bent, whatever.I keep this in MY room so the cards don't get lost (and so I can play after my daughter goes to bed)!

This might be too difficult for most young kids (it's perfectly suited to my daughter's learning/thinking style) so beware the frustration factor. However, you can play easier versions as well to start (by using only one color, for example) and progress to the full game for them.TEN stars for educational value--it's a great brain workout!

Anyone who likes puzzle-type games will love this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooked for years!
I was introduced to this game as a Senior in high school while on a Girl Scout trip to Michigan. We played it every chance we got between planned activities. It gets loud and fast.It wasn't too tricky to learn, just to 'see' the sets.
When I got home it took months to find a toy store that had it, let alone heard of it.
Once I found it I introduced it to my friends and half of them loved it, the other half never wanted to play me again. Most of the people who loved playing it were very math oriented in their thinking.People who are language people seem to have more trouble at first for some reason.
It definately helps develop perception, thinking and pattern recognition skills. Not to mention addictive.I would recomed it for anyone over the age of about 8. ... Read more

It's "the game that ties you up in knots"! Twister has beenaround forever, and it's still as much fun as you remember. The gamebox contains a spinner, a plastic mat marked with colored circles, andthe rules, which are brief. You don't need anything else except a groupof friends. A referee spins the spinner to come up with a color andwhether a hand or a foot is to be placed in a circle of that color. It's easy at first, but after four or five spins you'll be more tangledthan a plate of spaghetti. If you fall, or if any part of you except ahand or a foot touches the mat, you're out, and the last player left isthe winner. If you're looking for something to break the ice atparties, this game is it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A classic for all ages really
Surely everyone knows Twister? My first encounter was when my sister got the game for her birthday in 1976.
She and her friends had a ball with it at her party, then the adults had a go; or rather the Dads.
The Mums all seemed to wear frocks in those days and they didn't want to disgrace themselves at my Sister's party! The Dads on the other hand, would be really dumb at the drop of a hat to make us kids laugh.
I remember it being fun whatever age I was (I played a lot of games at college and we were all pretty giddy with wine then, much like the Dads back in 76!).
You can't fail to enjoy it, just be careful if your back is troubled or you have any injuries that are healing. Oh and be careful if you play with someone with stinky feet! the game really is a "shoes off" number, This is a fine idea but I remember back in 76 one of the Dads was not so sweet and one of my college buddies was rank! This means the mat needs a wipe down occassionally, otherwise there is a unfortunate lasting pong every time you open the box!!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a blast!
I have played this for years at birthday parties, but finally got one of my own last summer. So I took it to a Summer Youth Camp with me...and about 25 of us teens took turns on there. It was such a blast!
The only thing I would say is, if you have back or neck problems, you might want to skip this one. Or you could always be the spinner person. Either way, this one's tons of fun!

4-0 out of 5 stars Twister-4 1/2 Stars
Twister is a very nice, fun, calm game. If you have any sort of party with friends this is a great game to play. And it's not really any age limit, just as long as you know your right from your left. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent "intelligent" game for all ages !!
Games has a simple objective -- get the Red car out of traffice. And boy! it is difficult and changelling at higher level. Set up the *cars* as described in cards and figure out a way to get the Red Car out.The best thing is complexity raange from very easy to very hard. So it captures kids interests and provides the extra incentive to move to the next level !!

Simple rules -- once you have placed the cars on the Grid, you can only move them forward or backward.

A great addition to this game is "Rush Hour 2, 3 and 4 Gift Pack" for less than $12/-. Each set has 40 cards or in total 120 different combinations are possible. The highest level is really really difficult. Meant for the "Pros" only !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging and fun

4-0 out of 5 stars Jumbo cardboard version vs folded up mat
I am planning to purchase Sequence and would like any feedback on whether to buy the Jumbo cardboard version or roll up version of Sequence? because of durability and does the Jumbo cardboard come in a tin box?Friends and family really enjoy playing the game and I am thinking of buying one for each group of my family and close friends.I certainly would appreciate any comments.

5-0 out of 5 stars All our friends are hooked!
We bought the original Sequence game and loved it.So much fun!!Then we went to a friend's house and played the JUMBO Sequence and fell in love with that.It is so much easier to see and reach the game mat.Once you've played the JUMBO version you'll never want to go back to the original. All of our neighbors, friends, and family are hooked on this game and we never tire of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Family Fun at it's BEST !
We have 5 grown children that love to play games.. we play Sequence by the hours.. it is good for two players to 8 ! we divide up into teams.. the guys against the gals... couples against couples.. we just love this game.. a 5 year old can play as easily as an adult!
I know you'll enjoy this if your family enjoys playing games.

5-0 out of 5 stars The deluxe version's the best
I've had this game for a few years now and totally enjoy playing it with my wife. When my relatives from abroad came to stay with us, they too fell in love with this game. I thought I'd buy them the 'jumbo' version of this game, but I wish I had bought the deluxe version instead. Here's why: There are 3 versions of this game (normal, deluxe and jumbo). They're all the same in terms of how the game is played. But the biggest difference is the size of the mat and how it's packed in the box. The size of the deluxe mat is quite ideal - maybe the jumbo size is nice for big groups. BUT, the deluxe is the ONLY version of this game where the mat can actually be ROLLED and packed into the box. For the other two versions, you have to FOLD the mat and put it in the box. And that makes a big difference since folding tends to crease the mat. My relatives (who are now abroad) tell me that they roll up their jumbo mat and store it outside the box - that's no good, but they still enjoy the game of course!
In terms of the game itself, it's quite simple. Just make one or two sequences (depending on the number of players) - corners are wild, two-eyed jacks are wild, one-eyed jacks can remove an opponent's coin. As for the number of players, any multiple of 2 or 3can play the game - so you can have 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 or 12 players.
To summarize, the game is lots of fun and quite relaxing in that you don't have to think too much. And if you are going to buy a version of this game, I highly recommend the deluxe version because you can roll the mat into the box - something you can't do with the other versions.
P.S. I just realized that there's also a kid's version of this game. We actually bought that as well to keep the little folks occupied while the adults played the adult version! The kid's version is nice (the mat is actually a board - so folding is not a problem there). But the number of squares is few and if you have more than 2 kids (or adults!) playing, you could easily get into a stalemate. Just thought I'd mention that since I was comparing different versions of this game.

This is an awesome game.Very fun to play and easy to understand.Does take strategy along with good luck.Excellent for young and old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hubby Loves It!
The only disappointment with this set is that the pieces are plastic. When we picked up the box it was quite heavy so we hoped the pieces were some sort of metal. Alas. However, they are not flimsy. Some of the weapons were a bit curved out of the box but they straightened out with a little TLC. Don't even think about getting them back into the box once you've taken them out unless you wrote down where each piece came from. The board is nothing special, just cardboard, and is a little small for the size of the pieces. If you plan on playing the game I'd suggest getting a larger board. Otherwise, it's great for display purposes. This is the nicest Star Wars chess set we've seen. Buy it, you'll love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Saga Chess
For those who may be interested, here is a listing of which pieces are included in this new chess set.For the silver "good" side, the pawns are Republic Clone Troopers, kneeling and holding a rifle. The two rooks are C3P0/R2D2 (together on one piece), and Padme firing a blaster from Episode II.The knights are Han Solo in Episode IV clothing and Chewbacca with bowcaster, and the bishops are Princess Leia from Episode IV and Luke Skywalker from Episode VI.The queen is a bearded Episode III Obi-Wan, and the king is Yoda flying through the air (resting on a piece of clear plastic) with a lightsaber. On the black "evil" side, the pawns are the Episode IV era stormtroopers, kneeling with rifles. The two rooks are Count Dooku and Darth Maul (holding a double-bladed lightsaber and doing a high kick).Bishops are General Grievous (two of his four arms are holding lightsabers) and a General Grievous bodyguard with staff.Knights are Jango Fett from Episode II flying with jet pack and firing double pistols, and Boba Fett from Episode VI, presumably firing his wrist cable. The queen is Darth Vader with lightsaber, and the king is Emperor Palpatine with hands poised for sith lightning ala Episode VI.All pieces are made from molded plastic, and weapons will most likely be deformed and wilted when you remove them from the package. If your lightsabers are not all twisted and warped, be surprised and thankful. Also, getting them put back into their proper (unmarked) place in the packaging is like a difficult jigsaw puzzle. In the end, however, this is a nice set and I believe it is worth the price. ... Can you draw a cat? How about sketching something that conveys the word area or The English Patient? Can you do it in less than 60 seconds while your team yells the wrong answers at you and the other team is close to getting it right? 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for non-artists too
The thing I love about Pictionary - apart from laughing at the crazy drawings people come up with - is that you don't have to be a great artist to win. That's good for me, I can tell you! You see, it's not so much how *well* you can draw, but more how well you can get a point across in *what* you draw. I've seen people guess the right answer from some pretty simple line drawings. In fact, you'll be amazed at how some partners seem to almost sense what the answer is.

I'm sure most people know how the game is played, but just in case, here's the gist:

There are several categories that come up randomly as you progress around the Pictionary board. Sometimes one person from each team draws (we make this rule apply all the time); otherwise one person draws and their partner guesses what their drawing means. The first person to guess before the timer runs out wins the round and that team rolls to go again. That's basically it anyway.

I love this game and I highly recommend it for a good night of entertainment with friends and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my most prized posessions!
My friends and I have taken Pictionary to a whole new level. Most of the time it's guys against girls, and the men in my life have yet to win a game! This is a game for everyone, although I have found that the better you draw, the worse it is for you.Artists tend to take there time, and when you're faced against the timer...all bets are off!I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes to get together with friends and have a good time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Blechy Blech
Before I begin to rant-get one thing straight. I LOVE BOARD GAMES!!! So you can imagine how bad this is, if someone like me, who owns at least 200 board games, despises it. This game is just plain stupid. Also, since I tend to get nervous when I'm on timer, hated the little hourglass, pouring sand into the bottom chamber. Please, don't throw away your hard-earned money, get yourself a fun and more worthwile game, like Trivial Pursuit, or Clue. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Few gaming phenomena have become so popular so quickly as the Japanese trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh!, with its multiple complex rules, intricate story lines, and highly detailed artwork. But what really accounts for the popularity of Yu-Gi-Oh!, perhaps, is that its built on the notion of collecting, challenging enthusiasts, in much the same manner as its cousin Pokemon, to rise to higher levels of skill through the determined accumulation of as much paraphernalia as possible. This sharp looking collectors tin sports four special booster sets of cards: one Dark Crisis pack, one Magicians Force pack, one Pharaonic pack, and one Invasion of Chaos Pack. One special collectible card rounds out the ensemble. Best of all, theres plenty of room in the tin for plenty of other Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars GREAT JOB AMAZON
I don't know how many times I've seen other websites or WAL-MART or some other store dramatically spike the prices on these things! At my WAL-MART they cost $30! I also went to another website selling the God cards for $120 each! What people take advantage of to make a buck blows my mind! I mean the cards probably only cost two cents to make for Konami, and the price just escalates from there. Also, those so-called "rare" cards aren't really rare. The card company can crank out as many of the "good cards" as they want. I wouldn't suggest falling for the Yu-Gi-Oh fad, unless you want to go into debt really fast. But, if you are seriously into the game and want to compete, I suggest buying cards from here because not only has amazon brought the cost down to $20, they brought it down even further! GO AMAZON!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!

5-0 out of 5 stars if you like Scrabble ... you should get this
Lots of fun...you can save games from one month to another. You also get quite the reaction when people just randomly see you playing scrabble places.

2-0 out of 5 stars great idea but extremely frustrating
We recently took the folio version with us to Italy and spend a lot of time crawling on our hands and knees (including in the plane!) looking for "popped out" tiles.Tiles are difficult to inserset, difficult to move around, pop out when you do not want them to, but are difficult to pop out when you want them to.How about a magnetic version? Was one ever made?

4-0 out of 5 stars fuTILE losses
First off, I love this game.It has usurped my cat from my lap many a time....at first she liked the little clicking noises but now she hears them and curls up close but not on me.

Right away I noticed one 'O' tile that would not click into place unless it was turned on its side.Since it was a manufacturer's error, I figured it would be a simple thing to replace it.Nope.The game store could not help me and the 800 number was literally always suspiciously busy.
Ah, well, I can live with a lazy 'O'.

Then - I went camping and popped an 'N'after darkat Mt. Rainier. The next morning's search was, you got it, futile.Perhaps the chipmunks at Ohanapecosh are still marveling over their find.

Ah, well, it's easy enough to use a placer and stick the 'N' back in the bag after it is drawn once.

9 months have passed and more tiles have jumped ship.I'm getting very good at counting letters after every 5 games or so.Although I've found most errant tiles, right now I am using various little Lego pieces for an 'N, L, C and P'.Idid find the Milton-Bradley website and discovered I can not replace the tiles unless I buy a whole set for $7.95....which I know in this day and age is not all that much to most people, but to me it is.And there is the principle of the thing, the man who made the game was out of work and counting his pennies, and I think he would understand my hesitancy to buy tiles I do not need.

I'll do it, though...and partially rationalize the purchase by estimating that at my rate of losses, I will need to replace and, therefore, use the full set of 100 tiles in 20 to 25 years.I expect to still be alive - I'll take a chance on still being able to see.

My suggestion:Put a cute little bag of , say, 5 blank tiles in with every game. They can be trainer tiles. Then a black marker pen could readily resolve any angst over futile losses.

PSI love my own personal game...it has character., it has color.Maybe I'll wait a bit to order that new set of tiles....

Editorial Review

If you've seen "The Exorcist" lately, the folks at Parker Brotherswould like to extend a heartfelt "Captain Howdy-Ya-Do?" courtesy of theirnewly luminescent classic Ouija Board equipment. It's the same traditionalsetup as it was decades ago: the alphabet-and-numbers board with "Yes," "No,"and "Good Bye" spelled out in turn-of-the-century mysterious script; theheart-shaped "Message Indicator Oracle" with the readout window; the numerouscoy references to Ouija being "only a game--isn't it?" So if this editionseems to comprise a bit more plastic than we remember, the promise of theboard and indicator glowing in the dark for half-an-hour (after exposure tolamplight for 10 minutes) more than makes up for it. Of course, in the darkyou'll never know for sure whether the person across the board is the onepushing the indicator, now will you? --Tony Mason ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is not a Toy!!!-written by a 16 year old
This board is ment as a means of communication and
is not a toy there are real rituals that go along
with it you may see these a www.spellsandmagic.com
This is only one of the true and working rituals:
First you want to go to your quite place, turn off the lights and light the candles and incense. If you have 2 people it always seems to workbetter for some reason. Do your protection ritual. If you do not know one then you can simply imagine your body surrounded by a sphere of bright white light. The color white is always used for protection and purity. Then when you are relaxed enough, each person place their fingertips on the edge of the disc. Be sure not to push down very hard at all or the disc will not slide around like it is supposed to. You may then ask if there is anyone present with you here in the room. Or are there any spirits here that wish to communicate at this time? You may want to askthis several times. It may take a little while before it will start to move. When it starts to move slowly towards the yes then you know you have made contact withsome form of entity. It usually takes a few minutes or so to start getting any results ifyou do. Don't expect to get results every time, for you are not commanding these spirits, you are simply asking them if they want to talk.Once you have made contact, then ask the spirit what its name is. Then you may proceed to ask the spirit any questions you want. Things will usually start to speed up a little from that point on. Sometimes when a spirit is ready to leave, the disc will just go off the board. Write down your experiences every time you use the Ouija Board and keep them all in a little journal for future reference. Now the the most important part... Make sure you do some form of banishing ritual in order to make sure that the spirit has departed and is not still hanging around. The choice is yours and you don't have to do this banishing, but it is always better if you can. If the spirit stays and hangs around you it may very well try to influence you to its way of thinking and it may not be a good spirit. So just take precautions and your experiences should be quite enjoyable!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool except for the fact that you are really taking to you!
Ok at first i have to admit, I belived in the spirits and stuff, !AT FIRST! now i know exactally how this ITEM (notice how i didnt use the word tool) works it simple its you controling it for real! so you know how you have to have 2 people right well either one of you is putting the little message thing to the place your mind wants it to go. i have a few test for you to try. 1. first you ask it something, like will i be rich when i grow up? then you get the answer of yes or no. get another 2 people dont tell them what the answer was. have them try and almost always its aa no because you want it to be a yes and the other people that did it the second time dont give a care what they put it on at all. 2. blindfold the people that are going to play, then you have them ask it a question and it will come out scrambled!!!! im serious. see so its you that is talking to you. sorry to make anyone mad but thats the real truth. and by the way do you really think that parker brothers a manufacturer would make a TOY with thing that could hurt people, and if they did wouldnt they be sued?

1-0 out of 5 stars this game is inappropriate
i think this game is very inappropriate to sell. you may think the kids who buy ouija use it for fun, but some of them use it to try and conact the "dead". i hope you know that when you are selling these ouija boards, you are giving them a tool of witchcraft, which can sometimes be used to conjour evil spirits. i hope you reconsider selling the ouija boards ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for adults too
You have to have a sense of humor to play this game. It's not actually educational so much as fun. Most of the words on here you would never have heard of, unless of course, your major is Old Dead English Words. This game is great for drinking parties. It's also fun for just easy laughs with friends. The game is basically about how well you can bull*hit.

You make up definitions to words or you pick the actual definition of obscure words.Keep a straight face and be as creative as you can. Your own imagination makes this game fun!

Definitely try this game! It's a lot of fun once you start it. This game works best with a decent sized group of people (more than 4).

The more creative you are, the more fun you will have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good party game
This is a great game to play at parties or take on vacation. Many of these words might be too hard for children. But, for adults it is a lot of fun. The object is to come up with a definition of some obscure word in order to fool your opponents.
I have A lot of fun with this game. I generally like to come up with some riddiculous answer

for example: One word was Throp- I gave the definition "Something a 'thrabbit' does!"

Many of the words are nouns. and many of the words are technical jargon of a specific field or profession.

Its a good vocabulary biulder. Great practice for the game of scrabble.

5-0 out of 5 stars MASSIVLY improved from the first version
I just played the new version for the first time last weekend at a friends.Wo... so much better!Instead of just thinking up definitions for crazy words, you can also think of...

Film Plots:You are given the name of a movie, such as "Hot Under The Collar" and you make up a one sentence plot description.

People:You're given a name, such as "Jennifer Leland" and you makeup why she might be famous.(I don't care for this category too much... too hard to tell from a name what someone might have done.)

Initials:You're given a set of letters, such as D.H.F.C. and then you makeup something it could stand for.

Silly Laws: "In New Jersey it is against the law to bake apple pies..." and then you finish the sentence.

All players hand in their made-up definitions, descriptions, etc to someone who reads them all, along with the REAL one, and everyone tries to guess which one is legitimate.

I would personally disagree with the reviews which say this game isn't meant to be taken seriously, and the idea is to be as silly as possible.I think it's quit fun to try and concoct answers that fool people into guessing that yours is the correct answer. But however you want to pay it, there's no doubt that this is one the all-time great party games, and it's well worth the twenty-five bucks. If you try it and don't have an absolute blast, email me and (depending on my mood) I'll refund your money.:-)

Enjoy! ... Read more

This classic game of luck, strategy, and determination is easy to grasp for children as young as 6 years old, yet it's fun for adults and older siblings too. By drawing cards, players move their game pieces around the board, hoping to eventually accumulate all their pieces at the final destination--home sweet home. Sorry is known as the game of "sweet revenge," since players can send each other's pawns back to the starting line, thus forcing one another to lose ground and begin all over again. This kind of frustration may be hard for children under age 8 to handle. In fact, young ones typically crumble into tears of outrage when their pawns are cavalierly sent back. The only recourse is to teach children how to plot their own revenge, which makes them feel as powerful as superheroes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
I've played this game since I was a teeny kid and it's still a ton of fun.
As with most games, there are small pieces involved that very well may end up someplace where they're not supposed to, plus you can't really afford to lose any of the pieces. Plastic bag 'em!

5-0 out of 5 stars get rid of the video games ;0
My kids love this game. They sit down together and play this game all of the time. The neighbor kids come over to our house because they love to play board games and SORRY is the one they choose the most.We do not have video games at our house, and this was considered a drawback to the neighbor kids until my kids introduced them to board games. Now they come over all of the time just to play board games.I say hide the video games and let the kids interact with each other playing board games.

Sorry is top game in our house.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sorry!
This game was fun the first and second time you play it but when you figure out that the game is pretty much based on luck and no strategy you'll think twice when you want to play this a third time. Although this is still a good game for the family. It features a detailed bored with a deck of cards that have number 1-12 and selected cards that say SORRY! this means you switch places with another player. All in all I would recomend this game to anyone who loves a game of luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diplomacy: The BETTER Risk
I am a 16 year old student in high school and had never played the game Diplomacy until last year in my United States Government class. It was probably the most fun I've had in Government ever!We played in it during our foreign affairs unit in class and I was surprised how much educational value is linked to this game! It's MUCH more exciting than Risk would EVER be (even with the new LOTR Risk version out), and I can't express how great this game is!Just buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Backstabbers Wanted!
Ah, so good of you to join me. We'll have plenty of time to discuss the little issue my emissary was talking about at the embassy---it will take this train hours to get from Grenoble to the Summit in Geneva. Here, take this package, you can break the seal. I know your master has been conducting negotiations with the Emir, the Czar, his Royal Highness, and his Excellency the Kaiser, but I hope you'll listen carefully to what I have to say.

The subject is Diplomacy: true "Game of Life" and, with the exception of the ancient game of Chess, perhaps Earth's most perfect game. And as we both know, the play's the thing.

It is wicked. It is insidious. It is consumptively addictive. It is entirely possible that I owe much of my personality, my Machiavellianism, even my career---to this game that absolutely eschews Chance (no dice rolling here) in favor of the ancient human virtues: skullduggery, manipulation, persuasion, intimidation, betrayal, and outright lying.

"Diplomacy" is a game of the Great Powers, frozen at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th: it is classic great power politics, and the seven Great Powers of the Age---Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Imperial Russia, the Austrio-Hungarian Empire, and the Ottoman Empire (Turkey)---all vie against each other for control of the gameboard's 34 supply centers---the supply centers chiefly the great cities and industrial dynamos of Europe in 1900, such as Moscow, Vienna, Rome, London, Paris, and so forth.

The map is likewise confined to the world that dominated Earth's affairs in 1900, and like most of the tools of the Devil, it is deceptively innocent looking. Your cardboard world for the next---five, eight, even twelve hours, hey, "Diplomacy" is addictive---stretches from the British Isles in the North, to the Russian steppes in the East; from the western shores of North Africa to the wild expanses of the unruly Ottoman Empire. The first Great Power to seize 18 supply centers controls the world and wins the game.

And in that simple objective exists a deep, dark, infinite pool of betrayal and backstabbing. The operational world itself is deceptively simple: with no dice, no random chance, and a military world divided simply into army and navy units, with each military unit supported by an attendant Supply Center, you have to have a majority of units to seize a territory: 3 navies to 2, 5 armies to 4. But Europe is crowded. Often---no, always---from the frozen Russian north to the convoluted Balkans---you can't take enemy territory on your own. You need help. You need support. You need allies. And *everyone* in the game knows that, and all of you compete for the same small pool of potential supporters.

So you see how deliciously wicked this thing can get? Game time is divided into Spring and Fall: you have to have your army occupying a Supply Center in Fall in order to get it (and, consequently, to support one of your military units). Each turn you have a "Diplomacy Round" lasting 10 minutes (or more, or less, depending on how brutal you and your comrades set up your rules) to convince allies, former enemies, and those grey wicked creatures somewhere between, to support you and not your foe. Lie. Cheat. Betray. Spy. Backstab. Anything is permissible to advance the cause of your country, O Prince.

The rubber meets the road when Diplomacy round is over and the action takes place: I have lost three good friends and one fiancee to the gut-rending betrayal of a Diplomacy game. I think any of you who have played Diplomacy can attest to its black, Satanic, bloody record: friendships ended, enmities fostered, marriages destroyed.

The glory of Diplomacy? It boils human nature down to its raw elements. It reveals your friends and neighbors as the rats, serpents, weasels they are, and brings out a mean manipulative streak in even the meekest. Buy it. Play it. Master Human Nature. And yes, Ambassador---now that we're nearing Geneva, I can tell you all of this was a plot---you'll never make the summit. That *is* a dagger in my pants, and *no*---I'm not happy to see you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monopoly-Star Wars Style
It had been a while since I've taken a look at both Star Wars and Monopoly...Due to the hype for the new movie (EPS 3), I got back into Star Wars...This caused a mass compulsive buying of alot of SW merchandise. One of those items happened to be Star Wars Monopoly.
The paper money is cheap as always...it feels like it'll rip any second...it couldve been a little more durable.
The cities and settlements are sculpted great, and the game board has beautiful art on it.
The game pieces
Darth Vader
Darth Maul
Darth Sidious
Luke Skywalker
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Princess Leia
Yoda
General Grievous
are all extremely well made, bringing characters from all 6 movies.
My only gripe is that they included Grevious over someone like Han Solo or Boba Fett...I don't care for Leia or Yoda much, so I wouldnt have minded those two replaced with some old favorites.
All in all, a great buy and tons of fun to play.

Count on Trivial Pursuit to keep up with new millennium trends. This tremendously popular game has been updated with a fun DVD feature that allows players to view TV clips, songs, commercials, movie scenes, and more tidbits from pop culture. As in the original Trivial Pursuit game, two to four adult players (or teams) pose questions to one another in six categories, in this case TV, Fads, Buzz, Music, Movies, and Sports & Games. As they correctly answer questions, players move around the board, collecting colored wedges. To win a scoring wedge, though, players must answer an on-screen question with a variety of visual cues. So rev up those pop culture engines and get ready to come up with the name of Big Star's first record or the candy Ronald Reagan favored. The game includes game board, DVD, 400 question-and-answer cards, one die, four cute tokens (lava lamp, mixed tape entitled "Awesome Mix/Makeout Tunes," cell phone, and joystick), 30 scoring wedges, and instructions. Note: although the game features over 2,000 new questions, only a few hundred of them are DVD questions, leading to inevitable repetition. --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game!!
I loved this game! I got for christmas this year and i had a blast with it! The 20th anniversary edition was always so hard for me, but the pop culture verision was so much more easier to play. If you want a game that is easy and fun buy the pop culture version. If you want something extremly hard by the 20th anniversary edition.

4-0 out of 5 stars This game is a lot of fun.
This game really helped us out during a very boring family party. The questions are great for ages 18-65. Be Warned: Your Grandmother and Great Aunt won't be able to answer these questions!!!!!
I agree with the other reviews regarding the DVD. The same questions keep popping up and you're forced to see "Animal House" over and over again. Overall, we enjoyed the game.

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit deceiving and not what we expected
We thought it would be fun and a nice change to the game to have the questions on DVD.From the description on the box, you get the idea that all the questions come from the DVD, but they do not.The DVD is used to win a piece for each category and to win the game. The rest of the questions are still on cards like all the other games.Just disappointed that it wasn't what we expected.

The questions are good, not as difficult as some versions.Which may be more fun for those people who are not die hard trivia people that don't enjoy the most obscure questions. The tokens are nice and unusual.

So if you are a more general knowledge person or not a hard core trivia you may like this game.I would give it a higher rating, except it bills itself to be an interactive DVD game and that is just a small part of it and gets to be a bit tedious after a while. ... Read more

The aMAZEing Labyrinth uses a clever board design to create aseries of ever-changing mazes that one to four players must movethrough. The object of the game is for each player to collect asquickly as possible all seven treasures depicted on their individualtreasure cards. To add to the challenge, players know what the nexttreasure is only after they find the one before it. Before each turn, amaze card is pushed into the maze in a strategic place, helping theplayer make his or her way to the prize. This means that the entiremaze shifts and changes on each turn, confounding some and helpingothers. Players will need to think ahead to choose just the right spotto shift the maze in their favor. This strategy game is one of the best birthday presents my children ever got. You can play once or several times, and never grow tired of the game, as each set of mazes is different than the last.

Playing is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon or evening with your children. The game requires non-verbal skill and logic, but is fun as heck. Very often, the children do better than the grown-ups.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good game
We love this game.It makes you think, so it keeps us all interested. This is one of the few games that we all enjoy playing together because it is challenging enough for our overachieving 8-year old, and also interesting for our 6-year old.It is difficult to find games that do all that these days, because the 6-year old is refusing to learn how to read well enough to be able to enjoy "older kid" games, and we have all become bored with the "little kid" games. This game requires no reading, which (obviously) is a plus for us right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Family Fun
Our family really likes this game.It is a great strategy game. You have to think ahead and try to plan moves to help yourself but not others. It really keeps you thinking and the kids love it when they make a move that really messes up Mom or Dad.It is not so hard however, that a younger child of 8 or 9 would get frustrated. ... If parents like the original Scene It? Game--the main requirement being an obsessive love of movies, TV, sports, and the like--it's a good bet their kids will like this Jr. version of the well-known game. Of course one learns new things from playing Scene It?--it's trivia--but the Jr. version emphasizes the engaging of memory, logic and knowledge skills to play successfully. The objective is the same as the original game: answer the most trivia questions within a 30- or 60-minute period, using real DVD video clips as visual aids. There are up to 700 on-screen challenges, 480 trivia cards, and over 250 past and current pop stars featured in the game. This game, although I don't feel it has extreme educational value, is immensly fun to play, against three other people or in teams. I would reccomend it to people up to age 20!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Pretty Good.
My family got the regular Scene It? for the holidays. Of course it was hard for me and my sibilings. When we got the Jr. version it's easier and more fun for us. The only problem is I am 11 and my sister is 14 so some of the questions are a little bit too easy. Also I was surprised that some PG-13 movies where in the trivia and video clips. I haven't came across anything inappriote but there are some. I think this is fun it's just more based for kids 10 and under.

You can't beat a classic like Boggle for sheer return of fun on one's investment in a simple game. A small container holds 16 cubes, each cube marked with a different letter on each of its six sides. Give the container a good shake, and the cubes land within little pockets. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find as many words (of three-or-more letters) as you can--in three minutes. Points are tallied by word length. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced Introduction to Word Games
In Boggle, players compete against one another and a 3-minute hourglass to find word combinations across randomly distibuted letter cubes on a 4x4 grid.

The game develops pattern recognition skills, and because most possible words are only three or four letters long, astute younger players can play adults without too much of s handicap.

Tactics learned playing Boggle translate well into success at Scrabble and other word games, while the clock management skills help with chess and test taking.

Boggle is lightweight and makes a good travel game, though you might want to bring a zipper-lock sandwich bag to avoid losing the letter cubes. As an added plus, the game can be played solitaire with minimal dropoff in entertainment value.

If you enjoy Boggle, you might want to seek out Big Boggle, which uses a 5-by-5 grid (56% more cubes). Words and time limit are both longer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast Passed, A Lot Of Fun
I have played this game for years. It is a lot of fun but my friends got tired of it. I love the fast passed action, which to me is less boring than scrabble, but not everyone thinks so. If you like scrabble you should enjoy this game. Finding with whom to play is a different story. If you are a parent do not hesitate to purchase this game for your child. I recommend having a scrabble dictionary close by. If you do you will find out in no time that most of your made-up words DO exist. And since you do not get penalties for them try as many as you wish.

The game is simple. You shake the letter cubes and when they are all in place you try to make as many words as possible by following a continuous path through adjacent letters in the rack. (Diagonal counts as adjacent) The path need not be straight, but each letter in the path can only be used once. You have three minutes (sand clock included) to do so. Only words that are three letters or more are permitted.

You can't go wrong with this game, plus it is not expensive. It's worth a try.

ADVANCED PLAYERS: If you look around you might find Boggle Master. That edition has a 5x5 grid and 9 more letter cubes. You still have three minutes (and the grid is as noisy as ever) but you can make a lot more points in this one. Happy hunting and good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun times
I love this game and have for years. With so many words to make and such variety with who you play against and what letters might come up, it's always a different game every time you play it. The only drawback is the noise when shaking up the letters in their box. I would like to see a version that wasn't so irritating in that respect. As a tip, if the noise bothers you and you play the game a lot so it's worth the effort, put some thin felt strips in the box top (the kind with the self-adhesive backing) so when you shake it, it makes less noise. ...
