This is a no-nonsense, down-to-earth pegboard set with big, colorful pegs that are ideally sized for small fingers but too big to swallow. 4-0 out of 5 stars mom_of 16month_old
I purchesed this toy from an educational store looking for something to travel with and something without batteries. We bought it 2 months ago when my son was 14 months old and he liked it right away. It only took him several hours to figure out how to stack them. He plays with them every day and his color preferences are showing up while he plays with the pegs (he picks out all the orange ones first). He works both hands on his own when trying to stack the pegs. I think it has helped him in learning how to hold crayons. The only dislikes I have with this toy is the foam mat and the thin plastic wall in the center of the pegs. My son is still at that age were he bites everything and sometimes I think that if he worked at it enough he could chew a corner of the mat. We had one of the center hole walls break the other day and found the piece on the floor. So I would inspect them every so often. Also, try to teach your kids to hold the pegs down low as to not poke themselves in the eye when trying to stack the pegs with out the mat. It happened to our son--nothing severe just alot of crying. Overall it's a great toy and worth the money. I would definately purchase it as a gift for other children as well. Our son gets very excited when I ask him if he wants to play with his pegs. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun but a little flimsy
My 21-month-old loves stacking things and sticking things into other things. So this toy was perfect for him, except that the base should be made of something a little more sturdy. It's rather flimsy rubberized material. He can't play with it in his crib or on my bed. He has to place it on a table or something else with a hard surface. Other than that, he seems to really like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toy for the kids
I bought this because my son used to play this in OT sessions. He loved it and it really helps him to concentrate, use both hands (motor skills).

I will recommend this to everyone (1+year kids) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I have a question, hope someone can answer.
I like the look of this toy on the site, it looks durable, and my child loves to play in the tub. My question is this, do these letters stick to the walls of a tub enclosure, or are ceramic tiles the required finish for them to adhere to?
Hope to get an answer soon and thanks

1-0 out of 5 stars Love them!!
Only problem I have noticed is they are very small and that they don't have all the letters. My kids names have R's in them and they are upset that there isn't even 1 r in the whole tub. They stick to the wall great and even my husband and I have enjoyed leaving messages with them. Two thumbs up!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Toy!
My kids have this toy. They love making their names or words out of the letters.

I find it totally unexceptable for someone to attack someone else. This is for REVIEWS, not to attack people. Who cares if shes not who she says she is? She wrote a good review. She didn't use "their" instead of "there" anyway, and two exclamations is a common mistake. She was probably in a hurry.

Grow up and get a life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great System
I bought this for my 2yr old.Although the age group states its for older children, my son still has tons of fun with this system. This book is his favorite and he likes to read it at least 2-3 times per day.It is so neat that nearly every picture on the page can make a sound or tell you what it is.He learns lots of new words and is so excited about books. He loves the fact that Elmo is somewhere on every page.We have so much fun with this book and the whole system. He also has the leap frog system but reaches for this one first.
I would caution not to purchase if you don't intend on supervising closely. He is very rough on the pages and they come out and get torn pretty easily and this happened while I was watching him closely.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves playing with this book
My two year old son received a PowerTouch system for his birthday.According to the age recommendations he is too young for the system, but he figured out what to do very quickly, and his vocabulary has certainly been widened since he began playing with the system.

Our son's favorite book is "Elmo's Noisy Day" -- Elmo and Zoe go all around Sesame Street with jars and bottles in which they collect all the noises they hear.On one page they sample sounds from the jungle, on another they capture the sounds of a busy street, and they even collect some sounds from outer space!I was impressed by the variety of sounds included, and I was also impressed at how some pictures contained unexpected sounds. For example, on the first pages, the hats on a coat rack each make their own sound, related to the profession each hat is associated with.In the music store, each of the four samples of sheet music in the background produce a different tune.On the spaceship, the different buttons and levers make different beeps and squawks.

When my son sits down with this book, he will page through and play with it for 20 minutes or so at a time.He has suprised me with some of the new words he has learned by hearing them in the book -- he casually pointed out the tuba for me the other day by name!I can't speak to the counting or spelling functions of the book - we just use it for the story, for music and sounds, and for naming objects. Some of the pages are beginning to get a little ragged with use, but since my son is two I am sure he is handling it a little more roughly than an older child would.

I would recommend this book for the Power Touch system because of the great variety of information a child can get from any page, and for the educational value of the information presented, especially for a younger child (2 or 3 years old). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a great tool for learning to tell time
This item is a bit pricey for what you get, but it is really a helpful tool in teaching children to read time.I ordered it two months ago, and by the time Christmas rolled around, my daughter wasn't having trouble with time so much.Still, it is very interactive with her daily life, including magnets for kids to practice time in conjunction with their daily activities.I highly recommend this item, especially if your children are just starting to learn to tell time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational and great time teacher!
We received this item as a gift for our 4 yr old son's birthday. The concept is great in that the child can relate activities in their day to certain times on the toy.Our son can now understand half hours, 45 minutes, etc!
The only complaint is that the magnetic hold on the magnets is pretty weak...so they don't stick real well and fall off easily if you brush up against the board. The pen also doesn't stick well to the surface and the magnet has already fallen off of it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS TOY STINKS
THIS IS THE MOST BORING TOY EVER! My daughter got sick of it in 5 minutes and she hasn't used it since last month! I asked her why she never uses it and she said that it is so boring because it is broken! It's a waste of money!

1-0 out of 5 stars It only worked for ONE WEEK!!!!
This was a great toy the whole one week it worked, my daughter loved it, very educational! Then the buttons started sticking, I could "pop" them out with my fingernail, but then they started really sticking andI couldn't get them unstuck.I had to take it back, nothing I did would get it working again, so then we got the "Leapster", much better for the money. ... Editorial Review

This pink FM radio, inspired by Barbie, easily attaches to the handlebar of any kids' bike and detaches if walking to the beat--instead of peddling to it--is preferable. Its features include an adjustable volume control, digital channel scanning, on/off dial, reset button, and one small speaker that's camouflaged as a flower. The sound is not stereo quality, of course, but it's more than adequate within 10 feet of the unit. Music can be distracting to a bike-riding kid, especially if she wants to change the channel, so grown-ups should go over safety precautions such as coming to a complete stop before making any adjustments. As well, because the radio is plastic and not waterproof, it's best to take it inside if the bike stays outside overnight. Two AAA batteries are required. --Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Kids Love It!
My daughter, now 2 1/2, received this toy for her first Christmas, at 9 months old.It was love at first sight! She played with the cube non-stop.She loved to flip it over and hear the different songs as well as play with each toy on each side. Her favorite side is still the circle with the vibrating ball on the string.

Now, it's my 14 month old son's favorite toy.As soon as he comes into the room, he goes straight for the cube and bangs on it until it plays a song. His favorite side is the triangle with the mirror. He loves to climb on it and flip it over. The giggles he gets from playing with the cube are satisfaction enough from me!The sound quality is excellent on the original cartridge and the songs are not annoying to me at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!!!
This was given to my son at 4 months of age.At first he had very little interest in it.By 6 month's he had learned to hit the top and make the music play, and now at 8 month's he knows how to turn it from one shape to another, climb on it, and play with some of the little "hidden" toys.I think it is a wonderful toy, and the songs aren't annoying. My husban and I find ourselves singing it with him all the time.I recommend it to everyone!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for teaching our daughter writing...
We own over a dozen books for My First LeapPad.This particular book is my daughter's second favorite. In fact, we own two versions of it, one in English and the other in French.

My wife and I purchased this book because our daughter needed help with her fine motor skills, especially when it came to writing letters and numbers. She wasn't lagging or anything, but she made the mistakes all three-year-olds make when trying to write.

Through fun activities, this book taught her to write in strait lines as well as proper curved lines. She learned to correctly print both capital and small letters. She also learned to correctly write her numbers. We were pleasantly surprised by how much this book improved our daughter's fine motor skills and control over a pen.

Additionally, since her French lagged her English, the French version of this book taught her the alphabet in French and well as all her numbers in this language.Had she not already known these things in English, I imagine it would have taught her these as well.

This book is definitely one of My First LeapPad's best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the slightly older My First Leappad kids
My four year old son really enjoys this one (we have about a dozen My First Leappad books so far). A couple of the games really intrigued him; the "theme" is a carnival/fair, and helikes tracing the lines from the ball to the milk cans, for example. He's not as enthralled with the alphabet tracing part but I think he'll grow into that. This is definitely one of the most-requested books (he and his younger sister also really like Leap to the Moon and Disney Princesses). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For the Dora Fan
My 2 year old loves this toy and it is great for learning a bit of Spanish. The only thing wrong with it is that that once your child learns all that the toy teaches, that's it. There are only about 50 different interactions with this toy.Otherwise, it's cute and great for 18 - 30 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toy & super buy-My 1 year old daughter loves it
Hi everyone! I just bought this toy for my daughter a couple weeks ago-and I'm so glad I did. My daughter is 16 months and she is soooo into Dora the Explorer-she's thinks she's the coolest chica on 2 feet, next to mommy of course, wink wink. So, I picked this toy up because it seemed to scream to me on the shelf with all of it's pretty colors and lights..and Dora. I was going to save it until xmas but we(meaning I) couldn't resist. The different modes are great so you don't get sick of the same old thing. We can both learn some Spanish and listen to Doras backpack sing, and watch the lights and try to find the objects Dora is looking for in Spanish. Very durable-my daughter stands on it a lot(its her new thing) and it's held up like the best. We both love this toy, I recommend it to all DORA fans!

4-0 out of 5 stars If your child loves Dora...
My 2 year old daughter loves this toy!We bought it for her last week, and she has played with it every day. There are three modes of play- naming the object in English and Spanish, finding the object, and deductive reasoning (the object is red, there are three of these.I do have two problems with the toy though.I think the taped voice is sometimes difficult to understand, especially for one who is just beginning to understand different words, and the pictures are sometimes difficul to recognize- for example the balloons and the maracas look very similar, and do not accurately represent what these objcts actually look like. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should have these
My kids have both kinds of magnets, these and the plastic letters with the little magnets in them. They love to play with all of them, but they get frustrated when the plastic ones just slide down the fridge, or when the magnets fall off. The plastic ones end up under the fridge; their thicker profile and poor magnets are a bad combination. This kind is MUCH better; they'relightweight and completely covered with magnetic material on the back. They don't fall apart and they stay put! Less frustration for the kids, less hassle for me: It's all good!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best set of ABC magnets out there!
Like a lot of people, I grew up with those plastic alphabet letters on my fridge. So when my son was around 2 years old, I figured it was about time to get a set for our home. We were fortunate enough to get this set as a gift. I was truly impressed! This set is by far superior to any others I've seen on the market. They're large and colorful, and the entire back of the letter is a magnet. Not just one little square. They really stay put on the fridge! I also like that they're wood. Sure, bite marks would probably show up more on the wood than on plastic. But overall, I think the wood is far more sturdy and durable. All the letters come in a nice wood box with a sliding clear lid, making it easy to keep everything together. You really couldn't ask for more!

3-0 out of 5 stars not pleased
My son got these when he was about 2.Right out of the box, some letters were de-magnatized.He enjoyed playing with them on the fridge for a while, but some of the affected letters were in his name - the first things kids usually spell. He has learned some of his letters, but I wish we had the old fashioned plastic letters. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars HOURS OF EDUCATIONAL FUN!!!!!
I got these blocks for my son at 20 mos.He plays with them 5 times a day at minimum. He stacks them up and sideways. He is now 2yrs old and counts them 1-10 as he stacks them. They have the numbers in spanish too and he can count to 10 in Spanish as well. They are a great way to interact with your child and teach him how to count. Of course he likes to point to Dora and Boots too.I have a 6 month old, and when I need to focus on her I say "go get your Dora blocks" and it occupies him long enough for me to feed the baby. These blocks are a must have! Since they stack inside he likes to clean them up too. They are very sturdy but made of cardboard that you can clean with a paper towel.I recommend these blocks for every toddler. They are on my gift giving list.

5-0 out of 5 stars fun toy
I got these blocks as a gift when my daughter was born, it was her first toy!
she loves to stack the blocks, and loves to knock them down, and tries to nest them with decent results. I found these blocks to be somewhat durable, I dont have this exact toy, but a similar one. however, I recently purchased a full set of wooden blocks because my daughter got frustrated when she tried to build, and the blocks "nested".
Im glad I have both toys though!

5-0 out of 5 stars my girls love this toy
I have 3 girls ages 3 1/2 and my twins are 2 1/2.They all love these blocks.I almost didn't order them because I wondered if my girls were too old for them, but they love building the tower then knocking it down or naming the characters on each block and counting them.

They are made of cardboard and in everyday use someone fell on one of them and that block is broken.I taped it back together, but I wish they were a little more sturdy. If nobody fell on it they would be fine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute
This is a cute story. It works well with the leap pad system.

My only problem with this is I am very tired of this Pooh Story. Disney seems to have put this out in every medium available- dvd, video, books on tap, leap pad, computer games etc. There are other Pooh stories that are just as cute if not cuter. I'm tired of this one and so are my children.

If you have a Leappad book, I'd look at other stories before getting this one. It is a bit light on the activities compared to some of the other books.

Enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Addition to a Good Product Line
My children don't use the LeapFrog products as much as I thought they would, and in that sense, if you do not already own the LeapFrog unit, you may want to borrow a neighbors for a couple of weeks and see if your kids take to it.That having been said, the products are of high quality, and the content is very good. The "Pooh Gets Stuck" is fine, whether its any better than borrowing a Pooh book from the library and reading it with your child is another debate.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for Pooh fans.
My three and a half year old daughter likes this book. She loves listening to the different silly sounds that are associated with each of the different pictures and locations in the book.I would recommend this book for any child that like Pooh and his friends. It is not as educational as most of the other books, but it makes a nice story. ... I absolutely love the LeapPad and it's books!I currently own a LeapPad and thought that the 'Spanish LeapPad' was something a little different. It is the same high quality LeapPad as the non-spanish one. What makes this 'Spanish System' is the Spanish LeapPad book that is included.I thought that it would be more like a 'repeat after me series...'.This is an excellent supplement and introduction for someone that is learning Spanish as a 2nd language and a must have for those that are native to Spanish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for English Speaking kids learning Spanish
This unit comes complete with an English sampler booklet (no cartridge required) and Spanish sampler booklet with cartridge. My 3 year old son had lots of fun with the sound effects even though he didn't pay particular attention to the words and didn't care to repeat the words. He is very familiar with the English version of LeapFrog and will have to get use to the Spanish version very slowly.I'm disappointed the unit has no built-in easy carrying handle or headphone jack. As for the Educational value....priceless! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent toy but you have to rig the volume or it's QUIET
This is an excellent toy and my daughter loved it so much in the store that my husband bought it for her when he was out alone with her. He threw away the packaging and didn't notice the insert that says when you pull the tab out of the back, the volume will get softer- the louder volume as heard in the store is just for demonstration, and the quieter volume when you pull the tab out is to protect children's ears- it's NOT a defect, Fisher Price designed it this way.

The problem is that once you pull the tab you can BARELY hear the phone. It's so quiet that the room has to be very, very quiet in order to hear it- if the television is on in the background or the dishwasher etc- you can't hear the phone. My daughter still seemed to love it but it drove me nuts because it really is EXCESSIVELY quiet to the point of it being very hard to hear at all. Let me add that my daughter does NOT play with this toy by putting it up to her ear- it is at arm's length when she plays with it. I "fized" the volume back, and if she ever stars to put it to her ear like e real phone I'll un-fix it. But trust me, this phone is barely audible even in a quiet room when placed up to your ear- I am all about protecting my baby's ears but this is TOO QUIET, Fisher Price!

Like many others here before me, I cut a small strip off of a flexible paper-thin plastic card- I used an old Sam Goody Replay card. You can also use the original tag you pullled out of the toy if you still have it. What you need specifically is a thin strip of a card that is plasticy yet thin so it will fit through the little slot on the back of the phone in the top left area. If the card is not flexible it will not weave back through the hole (i.e., I don't *think* you could use a credit card and I'm not sure something xompletely paper would work....ideally find something soft and plasticy but flexible- it has to be strong enough not to scrunch when you stick it in the hole or it won't go, but not too hard or it....wont' go!)

This fixed the phone back to the way it originally was, and my daughter loves it. I agree- Fisher Price should have put a volume control on the phone, or they could have just made the phone a LITTLE less loud but not NEARLY as quiet as it gets when you remove the tab.

I recommend watching, especially younger babies, how your child plays with this phone and if they DO keep it pressed to their ears like a real phone, maybe considering leaving the volume alone. But if they play with it like my 1 year old, in their lap, then fix the volume so it sounds like all their other toys- after all, all my daughter's other toys are loud enough to be heard. Over and out!

1-0 out of 5 stars No good.
I got this phone for my son but you can barely hear it.I was at Walmart trying it out at lunchtime and it sounded clear and loud and great. Then I brought it back to my office after lunch and was going to call some of the guys and joke around it but you could barely hear the phone.I figured it was broken. Then I saw on the printed instructions that it says the volume is lower when its taken out of the package.I cant believe Fischer Price couldnt take the time to write that on the OUTSIDE OF THE package. My son can barely hear it and its really not worth the money.
One good thing did come out of this, I wrote a complaint letter to Fischer Price and they sent me a check to use towards another toy in the amount I paid for the elmo phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fixed volume and is now more fun!
I also had the same gripe about this toy when I bought it. At first my daughter was in love with this toy at the store but as soon as we got it home and removed it from the package Elmo's phone became more like a hearing test for hawks. It was very low. Still she played with it and loved it but has slowly lost her interest over time since she can't really hear Elmo's voice that well. I just followed Mrs' Fix It's directions (a few reviews back) to get the volume back up and it worked!! So if you have the toy I recommend doing this for volume and if you want to buy it I would like to warn you that the volume is very low. If you do buy it, cause it is a great little toy and get sick and tired of not being able to hear Elmo then try Mrs. Fix It's trick. Note!! Be forwarned... Listen to the volume it's set at IN the packaging and decide if you want it to be that loud cause that's what it will sound like if you tinker with it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Toy
My 2.5 yr old son is a big fan of Blue Clues. We purchased Joe's Handy Dandy Notebook while on vacation. It kept him occupied during our flight and while shopping and driving. It's great for traveling since the pen is attached and the stamps fit secure in the back of the notebook. It's one of his favorite toys.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great concept!
We bought 2 of these for our 2-year old twin son's birthdays...they love them! We have purchased many Handy Dandy notebooks with the crayon-erasable pages...but they never last! The pages end up being ripped out and the crayon that is included is not washable...so when I saw these I thought what a great idea! The boys love to draw and stamp and then erase and the fact that the "crayon" is attached and fits into the top of the notebook is wonderful!

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR LEFT HANDED CHILD!!!
This toy was designed for a right handed child. The writing tool is stored in the top binder of the toy (great idea) but it is on the right side only along with the string that attaches the crayon to the toy that is also on the right side of the toy.My daughter (2yrs old) cannot write because the string gets in her way.I have called Mattel to see if they have a left handed toy and they do not.Not a good choice if you have a left handed child. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Daughter loves it!
I bought this for my 2.5 year old daughter. She recently discovered Dora the Explorer so anything with Dora on it is an immediate hit. She loves the different books that come with the my first leappad. She'll spend an entire evening going through her books. The Animal Counting Farm and the Dora books are put together very well.

My favorite part of this toy is that we can use it together or she can use it by herself. The concepts are appropriate for her age and development stage. There is reading comprehension, games to play and music on most every page. I like to sit with my daughter and work with her on the different included concepts.

I also like all the different books that come with the Leappad. My daughter finds it easy to snap in a new book and insert a new cartridge when she's done with the book she's playing with.

My other favorite feature is the volume control. My husband and I are not fans of electronic toys due to the noise issue. However, this toy, included on each book, comes with volume control that is easily accessible.

All in all, I think this is a good toy and I have been very pleased with it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dora and Tad take over the world
Leapfrog is a nice, interactive reading program that allows kids to entertain themselves in the car or when parents are too exhausted to read them a story. It doesn't replace reading to kids and I'm not so sure that it improves a child's ability/chance to read. It is entertaining and does teach a child some of the basics of using a computer (although you point a pen at the word and click it vs. using a mouse). Is that good?Well parents will have to decide for themselves.

The stories are very good and have nice values. Again, the Leapfrog is a bit awkard to use as it flips up vs. flipping right to left like traditional books (or even the leappad). That's made it problematic at times. The spiral book will frequently slip off the leapfrog. In a way, that's good particularly since it gets the parents involved but its also frustrating for children that tend to want to do things for themselves. That frustration translates to dropping the leadfrog and moving on to play with something else or reading a real book (i.e., looking at the pictures while the parents read the book).

I feel that the leapfrog was aimed at toddlers to get them in the habit of using it so they're prepared to ask for Leapfrog. It's also designed to make parents feel good about purchasing "a toy". It's educational value remains to be seen although I did notice that after using each book that my toddlers were able to recognize the shapes, colors and letters involved. As to whether there is retention, we'll see. It's nice to have for trips and is preferrable to television but it won't replace a traditional book. ... Read more
