Editorial Review

That cute little squishy guy is back in all his pastel glory tosweeten up 2-D life on the Nintendo 64. With 3-D games such asPerfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 getting the bulk ofattention among consumers, Kirby 64 provides a fun change of pace for bothyoung and experienced gamers who don't necessarily need all threedimensions to have fun.

Young gamers will love the bright, colorful graphics in this game, which is 2-D with some 3-D foreground and background elements. Kirby isjoined by plenty of friends who will aid in his quest to recover thepieces of an important shattered crystal.

While the levels are a bit too easy for older gamers, the gameplay inKirby 64 is original enough to entertain all ages. Kirbystill has an appetite for enemies, sucking them up and spitting themout, but he can also swallow them, inheriting abilities such as fireand cutter. Also, Kirby can now combine enemy powers, often withhilarious results. For instance, electricity plus stone turns Kirbyinto an electrifying little light bulb. Sure, you don't need to use allthese powers, but they're still fun to play with. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Whimsical 2-D graphics
  • Kirby 64's copy and combine abilities result in some unique and variedgameplay
Cons:
  • May be too easy and too cute for older players

3-0 out of 5 stars wresltemania 2000
i got this the day it came out while i love the variety of wrestlers the road to wrestlemania in this game was boring and had no storyline to it whatsoever it was just random matches for the most part and took away from the fun of it for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars HHmmm....
the discription with that "Steroid powered" is like the game, I love no mercy but well Hmm.....at least this one has the best back stage I've seen. And there's no better comercial.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get No Mercy Instead
When THQ lost the rights to WCW and gained the WWF this game was a must have for me. I loved this game for ages, more then REVENGE, but as great as it was for a while, I must say I advise you get the step up version "WWF NO MERCY" it was the new and improved version and left this one for dead. ... Editorial Review

Despite some minor flaws, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing is a solid performer, delivering good arcade-style boxing action. All of the game's 18 boxers have distinct characteristics in keeping with their comically caricatured looks, including trademark special moves. In addition to arcade mode--where you fight in successive tournament-style bouts--the game features a championship mode in which you choose a boxer and train him to achieve Rocky-like status. To win the title fights along this road to victory, you must train your boxer in various mini-games to improve his abilities, as well as win prize and exhibition fights to raise money to pay for said training. A controller pack is required to save boxer data, and you're probably going to want to use the optional thunder pack to experience the full Rumble.

While the supported expansion pack gives Ready 2 Rumble Boxing crisp, high-resolution graphics, the game's speed could have used a boost as well, being distractingly inconsistent at times. And while the game certainly sounds good, the digitized dialogue can be annoyingly repetitive, none more so than sports announcer Michael Buffer's patented "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!" chant. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Good arcade-style boxing
  • Excellent 2-player head-to-head action
  • Challenging mini-games in championship mode
  • Ability to use customized boxers in exhibition fights
Cons:
  • Game speed is inconsistent at times
  • Repetitive digitized voices

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun People, fun game!!
When I first saw this I Thought ...! Then I hear good things about it so I give it a chance. And then "WOW" this is cool.My sugjestion is do the original first before you run to buy the 2nd one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boxing...Sweeeeeeet!!!
I love this game, you will never get tired of it and it has a great multiplayer, i play it all the time.Buy this game, you wont regret it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars For a boxing game it's great
From the previews on Tv for "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing," it looked like it would be a lot of fun.And for the most part it is.You choose from several boxers to either fight against a computer player or a friend. In 1 player, you can play a Championship mode and work your way up from #10 all the way to being the real champ. But it's not easy. There's not any special moves in "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing," which was the only bad thing about the game. However, you can use a lot of the recognizable punches from a jab to the uppercut by pressing different combinations of buttons on the controller. You can also block and dodge to keep from being hit. After you land so many good hits against your opponent, the word RUMBLE will be spelled at the bottom of the screen. When you see RUMBLE at the bottom, press A and B at the same time and your gloves will light up, making your fighter truly ready to rumble by making them stronger and faster.Once you get knocked down, you have to press the buttons as fast as you can to get back up and keep from being eliminated. After you get knocked down so many times, you lose. There are also other modes of play such as Exhibition fights.

"Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" has pretty good graphics and somewhat realistic character movements. Its control is easy enough to master in a short time, and the sound is probably the best aspect of the game. The man who is famous for the line: "Let's get ready to rumble" is the announcer and you can tell it's really him by the speech. To make the game even better, there's a few hidden boxers such as Kemo Claw and a huge creature that you can find by putting in the right code. There's also a random select if you're not sure what fighter you want.

"Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" is definitely the best boxing game I've ever played, after you get used to the controls and memorize how to do certain punches, it's a lot of fun.If you like boxing games, I recommend getting it as soon as you can. ... Read more

Editorial Review

While it never quite achieves Muhammad Ali-like greatness, Knockout Kings 2000 isnonetheless an excellent boxing game for both the enthusiast and the casual gamer. Fifty boxing legendsfrom the past and present are featured in this EA Sports title, along with world-famous arenas and TV-stylecoverage. In addition to being able to set up your own fights in the standard exhibition mode, you can playout nine of the greatest boxing matches in history in the game's classic mode. And for those interested inless realism and more pugilism, slugfest mode offers over-the-top, arcade-style boxing.

The real crowd pleaser here is Knockout Kings 2000's career mode. Choosing from a wide varietyof options, you get to create your own custom boxer, who can fight his way to the top in career mode orparticipate in exhibition and slugfest matches. Before career fights, customized boxers can be improved bytraining, or playing various mini-games. (A memory card is required to save custom boxer data.)

What robs Knockout Kings 2000 of the championship belt is its unbalanced 3-D graphics. Theboxers look great and move fluidly, but everything else appears flat and unfinished. Thankfully, fast gamespeed and responsive controls clamp down on the sightseeing, which is one sure-fire way to end up KO'd.--Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Can create your own custom boxer
  • Features realistic and arcade-style boxing
  • Fast game speed and responsive controls
  • Optional 1-button mode for those who don't want to memorize controls
Cons:
  • Except for the boxers, graphics aren't very pretty

3-0 out of 5 stars Great when it comes to Slugfest, but stinks in Career
This could be a really great boxing game. Some of the best boxers in the world are featured, and the gameplay is excellent. That is until you get into the career mode.

Many of the players lose their skill when going into their careers, and the computer predetermines who will win the next fight. You could be beating the snot out of your opponent, while you give up little health, but he come's right back and KO's you, and the computer won't let you back up.

That's the major problem with this game. Other than that, I have no beef against it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kicking... the Pro's was a gas!
I agree...some of the...graphics of the boxers were good, but everything else was weak. Being able to fight with the likes of Ali, Fraser, De La Hoya, Holyfield, and even Leon Spinx was cool... but the real kicker was creating your thug to match fisty wits with the real ones. From the speed and power of their punch, down to facial hair, height/weight, and the color of their shorts and boxing gloves - you get to pick it. This game will get old quick if your playing against the computer, but it has lasting punch playing against your friends.. especially when you beat the living bajesus out of them. The bloodied eyes and teeth popping out onto the mat are great. This game has FUN written all over it. Plus, because this is dated with the year 2000, there's a 99% guarantee you'll find this one on the bargain rack in 2001 and beyond.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great boxing game
This is a great boxing game. The graphics are good, the gameplay is smooth, and there are plenty of boxers to choose from. The create a boxer feature is also a very nice touch. I reccomend that you buy this game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Game
This game has generic entrance music, confusing create a wrestler, but most importantly, it has 3 count!

5-0 out of 5 stars You must not be wrestling fans
WCW Backstage Assault is cool! The interactive environments are the bomb and the fact that EA gives you an entire arena to fight in. The line up of wrestlers is cool too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wrestling game loses ring...
WCW had problems. Big problems. One of them was their stinky video games. "Backstage Assault" takes a new idea and almost ruins it. The game is very easy to play, but why bother? What wrestling fan wants a game that takes place outside the wrestling ring? Sounds like "Betrayal," that Game Boy game that WWF put out. This game is a decent fighting game, but an awful wrestling game. And don't bother trying the PSX version. It's even worse. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars They tried, but they didnt quite get there.
When EA sports got the rights to WCW I guess they thought about how to do it, to go with the way THQ did it, or the way ACCLIAM would? They seemed to be able to make a graphic that is in between! It's kind of the THQ game play with WWF Attidues graphic's in a way. The graphics of the wrestlers and motion in this game arnt too bad. But there are so many flaws...

- No constume change for a wrestler
- Cant edit wrestlers
- Created wrestlers cannot have there moves choosen individual, you have to select a pre programed set of moves from one of the eqsisting wrestlers in the game.?
- too many moves are wrong, not done right, given to the wrong wrestler ect...
- It sucks to only be able to hit your oppnonent with a weaopen 2 or 3 times before they block it (every time, no joke)
- Goin backstage is nothing special, 4 weapons and no where to go but back to ring side.
- The codes are annoying to have to put in up to 15 digit codes everytime you wanna access it.
- there has been little attention payed by the creators to the back ground.
- everything is too prgrammed. You figure out right away that eventualy you can hit your opponent twice on the ground before they get up ect...
- only one special move, and all are done the same way in a grapple, which means wrestlers like Bret Hart and Stings Sharpshooter are not there finishers!
- You can only select about 5 tunes for a CAW's ring music.
- The entrences are very dodgey
- The commentary becomes VERY annoying after youve heard it repeated 1000 times in the one match.
- CAW cant choose attires from the other wrestlers, or a mustache like Hogan to make a CAW version of the yellow and red hogan.
- Theres the option for whose moves you want, and what finisher, however they are not a seperate option, if you choose Nash's moves, you finisher is Nashes Jacknife Powebomb
- A lot of moves are missing; Booker T's axe kick finisher thing, Bret Harts 'hart attack', double team moves, ways to turn your oponent around to grabble them from behind, there is only one pin - not one of them hooks the leg or anything unless it's a move given to them, taunts are missing, entrence taunts are wrong or missing.
- It's another game that has completly ignored Hulk Hogans Leg Drop as being a devestating finisher, it's simply just a running leg drop that doesnt even look like the height Hogan would do it from, it's just an average leg drop with little damage.
- Goldbergs not only in the game, but on the damn cover.
and finally, it's WCW.

My recomendation is WWF NO MERCY over anything.
But, if you are the WCW fan, then I recomend WCW/NWO REVENGE. But serisly, No Mercy is the best wrasslin game on the 64.

4-0 out of 5 stars I got shocked when I first played it...
When I first picked this game up, I got scared because I thought I already had it, I went to the Create-A-Wrestler portion, and I was already on the memory card, it turns out that created wrestlers from WCW Backstage Assault can be used in this and vice versa, this in itself is quite a step forward, seeing as there hasn't been anything similar since, in a series of wrestling games...
The game itself is okay, the gameplay is kind of easy, and really slow-paced (ie. it looks like its in slow motion at some points.) But for the time, and for WCW/EA's resources, I find it to be very ammusing.
It is a recommended novelty wrestling game for the N64, its not comparable from WWF's No Mercy for the N64, because they are completely different, nothing at all, except for wrestling brings the two together.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of crap!
You can go backstage.

Thats the closest to a compliment I can give for this waste of putrid... [feces](dooke)that electronic arts has deemed a video game!
All the rest of the game is awful! The controls are slow and out of place and the characters look like gorrillas rather than wrestlers! And then the energy system ruins the gameplay. And the graphics are blocky and just plain... [butt]-ugly!I could go on forever!Get WWF No Mercy or WCW Revenge if you want a good wrestling game.
This game sucks.Dont get it or you will be sorry! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Tennis Game Ever
Mario Tennis certainly ranks up there with Virtua Tennis and Top Spin as the best tennis games of all time. With that said, let us take a look at what exactly makes this game so great. Well, with any sports games, the factor we have to take into account when analyzing its quality is its gameplay. Specifically, we want to know how well it emulates the sport. At first glance, Mario Tennis would not seem like a good tennis simulator. The controls are simplistic, and the characters are, well, Mario. Yet Camelot, who made Mario Golf, manages to put one over us. Despite the fact that you can perfect the controls in minutes, the game is deep. Ball physics are exceptional, and the type of court actually has an impact on the physics. Each player has his, her, or its own distinct feel. Movement in Mario Tennis feels more fluid than the more "realistic" tennis games, and this opens up the possibility for the development of strategy in your style. One complaint in the actual gameplay aspect of the game is the camera, but this is a flaw that plagues all tennis games. The court is split in halves, and one player/pair gets the bottom half and the camera behind them. This is infinitely better than being on the top half and having the camera facing them. It is possible to keep the camera behind you in single-player mode, but it can be a bother in multiplayer modes.

Like Mario Golf, Mario Tennis is chock full of various modes of play relating to tennis. I feel that the best one is the exhibition play, since that is the one best suited for multiplayer. It's just tennis, plain and simple. You can play a short game (1 set, 1 game) or a standard game (5 sets, first to 6 games). The latter length can get pretty tedious, especially if opponents are well matched. The Bowser match, however, feels underdeveloped. The items were supposed to be the key aspect of the Bowser match, but the rocking of the court seems to have a greater effect. The ring mode is better than ring mode in Mario Golf, since it is easier to aim, but there aren't that much incentives to play this mode. As far as single player mode, Piranha Challenge is super-cheap. Tournament mode, on the other hand, rocks. The game's standard 3 modes are okay. They range from extremely easy to challenging. However, definitely try to beat all three cups with everybody to open up the Star Tournament. Although the matches can get quite epic in length, these are definitely worth playing.

Okay. If you thought that you could get past this review without seeing a comparison with Mario Power Tennis...sorry to disappoint you. Many sport games can be separated into two forms: a more realistic sim-style game, or a less realistic arcade-style game. With improved battle modes and the flashy Power Shots, Mario Power Tennis is definitely more of an arcade-style game. So it all boils down to which type you prefer. MPT is just too insane for me. However, the graphics are definitely nicer than the somewhat blocky graphics in Mario Tennis for the N64.

Although limited, the voice samples are pretty good. The sound effects are well done, as each type of hit produces a different noise. The music is nice, generally falling under the easy-listening category. As far as replay value goes, even though multiplayer is fun, there gets to be a point (for some people) where it just gets old. Even so, Mario Tennis is still one of the best tennis games out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Go Tennis
This game is fun! You get to choose from all of your favorite Mario characters and villans. I would really reccomend it. Great game.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT, ADDICTIVE, FUN FOR EVERYONE!!
This game is so much fun! My relatives, parents, siblings, and I can't stop playing! This game is so addictive. It is fun even playing alone! There are so many characters to choose from and you can even choose a doubles partner! Playing this game is a great way to learn how to play tennis plus the rules of tennis!
This game has tournaments, and all sorts of different fun games to choose from. I recommend this game for everyone. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Banjo-Kazooie mimics the look and feel of Mario 64, a truly innovative and visually stunning game that belongs in any Nintendo 64 collection. But don't brush off this 3-Daction-adventure as an uninspired clone. On the contrary, Banjo-Kazooie introduces more than enough originality to warrant a spot next to its famous mentor.

The game introduces two of the most charming virtual heroes in recent years--the goofy, floppy honey bear, Banjo, and his faithful, feathered sidekick Kazooie. In the game's introduction, we discover that the sinister witch Gruntilda not only nabbed Banjo's sister Tooty, but stole her beauty as well. Naturally, it's up to the bear-bird team to retrieve Tooty and rid the world of one darned inconsiderate witch.

In this beautifully-rendered and massive game world, players run, jump, swim, climb, and flip over obstacles, defeat all sorts of "baddies," and find and collect numerous items and clues that help the quest to progress. Playing as both Banjo and Kazooie, players hone their characters' actions, learning nearly two dozen special moves that help players expertly defeat foes and successfully tread through the nine worlds.

Banjo-Kazooie is one of those games that can demand hours upon hours of perseverance, patience, and learning of skills to complete. But don't let that discourage you. This epic game is so much fun that reaching the end will be an afterthought. --Eric Twelker

Pros:

  • Nicely-paced game world filled with well-designed challenges
  • Excellent character control with numerous special moves
  • Gorgeous graphics
Cons:
  • Numerous--often complex--special moves may discourage some casual gamers

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like it! Winter of 98 with my gal. Donkey Kong!
I have never played anything like this since. Everything from SlyRacoon, to Ratchet and Clank, owe it to this.

Wicked witch Gruntilda takes Banjo's sister to hey layer, miles away in a realistic 3D cartoon world.

Banjo is a bear with Kazooie a bird in his backpack that can help him jump and fly and basically you learn to do lots of things with it. You solve puzzles via action and collect tolkens across lovely maps. Mumbo Jumbo transforms Banjo into some other creatures along the way. You can fly. It was amazing. A full adventure all the way to end. We played it for months and I have NEVER played anything like it again. The makers of Donkey Kong released it at the best time. It is now up to the future generations to make adventure concepts better than this one. This is one of the best N64 games ever.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tight controls, but suffers from a severe case of vapid cute
I strongly disliked this game at first. The cutesy characters, mind-numbing storyline, and abundance of throwaway dialogue was a little too much, and it otherwise seemed to be an awkward Mario 64 clone.

Well, time has passed and I've given it another shot; played it more than halfway through, actually.I've changed my mind...initially, it's appeal was completely elusive.I get it now.The play mechanics are incredibly solid, Banjo is a joy to control, and some of the challenges are quite satisfying to complete.

It's got a lot going for it, so it's a shame that the positive elements are trapped in such a...I've got to say it...stupid game.

Harsh, I know, but really - the characters, worlds, dialogue and "plot" are dreadfully thin.I know, a platform game is about jumping, running, and figuring out little puzzles, but aesthetics count for something too. It's got to be wrapped up in an interesting package, and if you're over the age of 8, Banjo simply isn't.A rhyming witch?A bird that constantly tosses out insults like "crustacean butt"?There is absolutely no creativity outside of the programming - design and storyline seems very rushed, as well as stolen from a mish-mash of Disney movies.

So while there are satisfying elements to it, Banjo-Kazooie can feel severely empty for anybody but the very young.A shame, because it's not impossible to make a simple platformer that everybody can wholly enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite game of all time.
Just buy this to say you own it. It may be a Mario rip-off, but it seems to excel past Mario. Yes it is hard enough for old gamers and nice enough for young gamers. The music is happy and bouncy. In a nice way for anyone.
The past is that your sister is kidnapped by a witch who plans on stealing her beauty. You are to team up with a bird and perform many combos to survive.
You must collect puzzle pieces and musical notes to progress in the game. This game is harder than anything. Which will have your kid brother giving you the controller and you an excuse to play.
Control is ok. But I will have to overlook it concerning how systems were back then. Special moves are quite worth the wait in the game and you wonder what is going to happen next.
The ONLY problem is that Banjo seems to be there just for looks. You will use Kazooie everywhere. To swim faster, walk faster, attack, EVERYTHING!
This game is by far the best I've played and wish they will release a new one again (Other than the sequel I've played and own.). Hell, they can release the same two games again for other platforms! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Party needs are fulfilled
After playing and completing Mario Party I needed another game to fulfil my party needs. And this was probally the best thing that I've needed ever since food. Mario Party 2 is just like the first one but with new boards, new mini-games and now there are item shops! The boards are fantastic and are very detailed, so here are the new boards to give you an idea:
Pirate Land: set on 3 islands (always fun)
Western Land: the train is for transportation (great in multiplayer)
Space Land: trigger happy Bowser (big)
Mystery Land: hard to get around (it's fun to curse your enemies)
Horror Land: day and night cycle (my personal favorite)
And there is one more secret board! But I'm not telling what it is! So if youve played the first party then this is your next step and if you haven't played the first one...well it isn't to late to start to play the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great party!
Mario Party 2 is even better than the first. Like the first, you pick a character (no new ones...) and move along the boards collecting stars. At the end of each turn, you play a minigame. There are 4 Player Minigames, 2 vs. 2 Minigames, and 1 vs. 3 Minigames. This time, there are no control stick twisting games (thank goodness!). Now you can buy items as you pass by the item shop on the board. There are a bunch of new mini-games, but some old ones. The story is that Mario and his friends are making a theme park, but they are arguing about who to name it after. So Toad suggests to play Mario Party to see who is the Superstar. Overall- a great game. I recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars PAAARRRRTTTAAAYYY!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is awesome! With some minigames its a pick-up-and-play deal, and with other minigames it takes some time to master. The game boards are very interactive. There isn't much to say about this game, it just naturally rocks. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Nintendo 64 owners have been patiently waiting for a decentrole-playinggame, and, at long last, one has arrived in the form of the perplexingPaperMario. World-famous video game icon Mario stars in this unconventionalRPG,which was originally announced as Super Mario RPG 2. Don't be fooled by the cutesy visual exterior of this game, which borrowsheavily from the well-established Mario universe. Yep... it's the same lovableMario who dons his familiar red overalls and unkempt moustache. However, thecatch is that Mario now stubbornly appears as a two-dimensionalcharacter--despite the largely 3-D exterior gaming environments that surroundhim. When ourflat-headed friend turns around, his paper-thin presence becomes immediatelyapparent. It's a cool gimmick, but fortunately Paper Mario is far fromacut-and-paste cartoon caper.

As with most RPG titles, players must battle with several menacing enemies asthey travel from place to place on their quest. Each encounter requires gamersto strategically choose between various modes of attack. For example, Mario isparticularly handy with the hammer--thus you might opt to select hishangover-inducing hammer attack. As the adventure progresses, additionalcharacters willjoin your quest. Your ever-growing posse gives you more fighting power, aseachteam member brings new attack moves and powers worth mastering. To advancewithin the game, you'll need to pay close attention to your health meter, enemyhit points, and your ever-expanding attack options. The game starts withenemiesthat are easy to defeat, but it quickly becomes quite difficult to survivesubsequent attacks without careful planning.

Unlike most RPG games, each attack sequence is enhanced by a special actionfunction. Instead of passively sitting back and watching each attack moveoccur, the player can enhance your attack by pressing a button or moving thedirectional controller at precisely the right time. As someone who has rackedupseveral hours (and more than a few snoozes) during repetitious RPG attacksequences, the action feature is a welcome addition to break up the monotonyofmultiple attacks.

Fans of the traditional Mario games will appreciate the return of familiarcharacters, such as Princess Peach and Luigi. Perpetual baddie Bowser evenplaysa key role in this addictive adventure. Best of all, there are plenty ofhiddenareas and extras to uncover. Paper Mario may boast elements of theclassic platform gaming genre, as well as the traditional RPG--but itultimatelycuts through all expectations to deliver an experience that appeals to bothcasual and hard-core gamers. --Brett Atwood

Pros:

  • Weeks of gaming due to expansive environments
  • Hidden goodies to uncover
  • Classic Mario gameplay mixed with traditional RPG action
Cons:
  • Highly addictive (prepare to lose some sleep)
  • Cartoon exterior may not appeal to some hard-core gamers

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Well, I won a free game rental at Video Plus, so I chose this game. Let me tell you, I was happy with my choice. I loved everything about it. I played for about 10 hours every day (I'm not kidding about that), and finished it before my rental period was over. I'm glad I managed that feat, because otherwise I would have wept when it was time to return it.

The worlds you'll travel to are so cool. I found myself exploring a giant toybox, a colorful garden, and a gorgeous desert palace, among many other environments. Since I didn't use a strategy guide, I was constantly wondering what would come next.

As I travelled the extensive world, I met many party members who would help me out, both in battle and in puzzles and exploration. Each partner has their own distinctive combat abilities, puzzle solving skill, and personality. For example, Watt, a sweet, good-natured sun ball that joins you in the Shy Guy Toy Box, can use electric shocks to attack in battle, and you can also use her to light up dark rooms. Parakarry, a distracted mail deliveryman, used dive-bomb attacks and could fly me across short gaps. The list goes on and on.

The combat system is a mix of action and RPG elements. You select commands from a menu to attack, but if you time your button presses carefully, you can do a lot of extra damage. Press A just as you rebound from your jump to do a double-jump; Rapidly flick the control stick to build power for a dive bomb; each attack has its own button combination, so you won't get bored.

Outside of combat, you can level up your HP and FP (FP are like MP), collect badges that make you more powerful, find Super Blocks to grant your partners new moves, and, most importantly, solve the perfectly-done puzzles. Each puzzle makes perfect sense; if you look carefully, you'll always find a way to solve it with a combination of you and your partners' abilities.

Finally, there are some little extras that can really make a difference. The graphics are bright and colorful, and look great even today; they make even minor characters memorable. There are a few sidequests, such as delivering letters and collecting Star Fragments to earn new badges. And after every world you complete, you'll get to play a short interlude where you control Princess Peach. It's these bells and whistles that really make the game unique and fun.

Buy this game immediately. It may be on a last-gen system, but the masterful gameplay and pure fun are timeless.

5-0 out of 5 stars its good!
I like this game. Its fun some times it gets a littel borring but i reccomond it. The bake rounds are lovely and pretty and some times you get to be princess peach!

5-0 out of 5 stars Got Cheats and Hints Here
Ok, now seriously this game is da bomb. The enviroment is great. The Mario line just keeps getting better. The game is very challenging for first timers. However, once you beat it you can beat the game in half a day.
Here are some cheats for the game:
iN tOAD tOWN AFTER YOU get the super boots in boo's mansion, go to Merlon's house and spin jump in his house 3 times. The quick change badge will fall fro the ceiling. It allows you to change party members without taking up a turn.
On Huff'N'Puff, use Bow on ultra rank and her fan smack to do ten damage. Then switch back to mario and use Star Storm from Skolar. You'll kill him in about 4-5 turns.
Do not use Chet Rippo ( the big blue dude standing next to the other Item shop. He ups one stat but lowers the other 2.
On any boss or hard to beat person, use Watt she does 5 damage for 0 FP. She breaks the defense rule.
When you have to pick what Mario hates after chapter 3 in Bowser's castle, pick Magikoopa, Koopatrol, and Hammer Bros. They give you 5-8 star points apiece.
If you need help on dry Dry Desert, go to Ign.com and type in Paper Mario. It gives you a map and tons of hints. Also it has walkthroughs and more cheats.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I got this game two weeks after it came out. At first i was nostalgiac of the first game, i liked the first game more. But after I got over that, i noticed how fun this game was compared to the first game. Each level was harder and more complex than the first. And even though there are only 8 levels, compared to the 10 in the first, it took me longer to beat this one. The graphics, i have to admit, were very impressive for a sixty-four bit console. The game itself was very hard and challenging, but in a good way. This was the right way to make a sequal.

4-0 out of 5 stars Feels different from Banjo-Kazooie
Even though this is the direct sequel to the Rare 1998 classic Banjo-Kazooie, and features much of the same gameplay and similar characters, I think that it just feels like a different game. It seems almost as different from Banjo-Kazooie as Donkey Kong 64 or Conker's Bad Fur Day does. The game just emanates a completely different atmosphere. I guess it's a combination of very different music, different moves, and new characters. Kudos to Rareware on that. People usually like a game that play the same as another game but feels different. I mean, it's a different game, isn't it? Who likes a game that plays AND feels the same?

Ah well. Banjo and Kazooie's final N64 adventure takes them to the world beyond the valley in which they live in. It's a large world, larger than the cavern that Gruntilda calls her lair. The levels really aren't that much larger than the mammoth world featured in Banjo-Kazooie or even Donkey Kong 64, but it's amazing how Rare has fresh ideas even after creating over a dozen massive levels for the two aforementioned games. Ah well. The difficulty level of Banjo-Tooie seems to be tougher. It's sometimes harder to figure out what the heck to do for certain Jiggies, and there are so much more stuff to find this time around. Not only are there jiggies, but there are also: Jinjos, Cheato pages, honeycombs, and everybody's favorite notes! The massive amount of extra moves can also get overwhelming. Boss fights, which were MIA in Banjo-Kazooie are now here, and in every stage. The extra modes of play are a nice change to the typical Banjo-Kazooie formula. I haven't had a chance to play as Kazooie without Banjo, but I did get to control Mumbo. It wasn't really as I had expected, but fun nonetheless. The 1st-person shooter mode was obviously a chance to cash in on the successes of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, but they were actually well done. The 1st-person shooter level in Mayahem Temple freaked me out, but hey. It's all about atmosphere.

Rare has always been good at having distinct "tastes" to their games. I suppose what helps them are their awesome musical staff. Although the music in Blast Corps got on the nerves of some people, it definitely added to the feel for it. The somewhat-like-variations of the Bond theme in GoldenEye gave that game a unique feel. So on and so forth. Banjo-Tooie had good music that adds to its different mood, but it just didn't feel as excellent as Rare's fantastic score for Banjo-Kazooie. Maybe that's a good thing. Having the Gobi's Desert tune stuck in your head for hours is not exactly a pleasant experience. As far as sound effects go, Banjo's deep utterance for every jump is JUST NOT RIGHT! Argh! I can't stand it. Oh well. It's a good game nonetheless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Banjo-Tooie: Best+Most Fun Game Ever!!
They started out in Banjo-Kazooie as "not well-known and REALLY strange main charaters", but in Banjo-Tooie, that bear and bird duo really caught on as enjoyable and fun guys to have in a video-game.
Banjo, the "slightly out of it" honey bear and Kazooie, the cheeky breegull started out in their previous game having Grunty, the evil witch, as their enemy because she wants to steal Tooty, Banjo's sister, in order to get her beauty. But in Banjo-Tooie, she doesn't really want to steal anyone's beauty, she is MAD and WANTS revenge!!! Chasing through Grunty's lair learning "novice moves" from Bottles, the mole, was simply a "kindergarden" learning experience compared to the "high school" more "advanced moves" from Bottles' brother JamJars.
In Banjo-Kazooie, the good shaman Mumbo-Jumbo, assisted the bear and bird by turning them into an alligator, a pumpkin, etc., ect. But now, Humba-Wumba steps in to take his place. Mumbo still helps you in B.T., only this time, YOU control him! Navigate Mumbo around looking for things to do and your also able to almost "evaporate" enemys with your Mumbo-staff!
Earlier in this review I mentioned Bottles' brother JamJars. Drill-Sargent JamJars teaches the Banjo-Kazooie team different moves and abilities to help you defeat bosses, harmful lava, quick-sand, toxic waste, and anything else that might kill you. You also learn how to use special pads that let Banjo and Kazooie split up!
With it's great grafix, great charater cast, long game-play time and plot [it took me about two or three days worth of gameplay to win], improved plot worlds and sub-worlds, better theme music [not that B.K.'s music was bad], I rate it "THE BEST GAME EVER MADE FOR THE N64 AND BEST GAME OF ALL [the second best game is and was B.K.]." I give Banjo-Tooie 5 GOLD STARS!!! :D Great job, Rare* and Nintendo*

Editorial Review

Mario's illustrious career has earned the fella the right to relax, so it's no surprise that virtual golfers can now join him on the links... Mario style, of course. In Mario Golf, players join the star and his usual posse--Luigi, Pyoshi, Wario, Princess Peach, and Baby Mario, among others--on six themed courses, each with unique obstacles and landmarks recognizable from Mario's previous ventures. Despite one's expectations of a cartoonish "golf light" experience, the gameplay is actually on par with many serious golf simulations and is undeniably the best golf game for the Nintendo 64.

The game is equally balanced for pros and amateurs alike. Seasoned virtual golfers and perfectionists can choose a club, adjust the golfer's stance, gauge the wind direction, and apply a variety of spins to the ball. Casual golfers can let the computer caddy pick the best club and line up the golfer, and then simply swing away.

A variety of 10 classic and cleverly original game modes are available. Among the more interesting challenges are ring shot, requiring players to land shots through floating rings, and mini golf, complete with banked walls and ramps. In addition to the traditional tournament, skins, and match modes, golfers can play speed golf, requiring players to finish a round of golf as quickly as possible. --Eric Twelker

Pros:

  • Great variety of game modes
  • High replay value
  • Strong multiplayer mode for up to 4 players
Cons:
  • No hidden Mario Golf Kart mode (that we know of, at least)

4-0 out of 5 stars Mariogolf 64 Review
This game is very entertaining for many golfers and children alike. It is a lot of fun although it is very far from reality, as in having piranha plants, chomps, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Four!!!
Not that many golf games in the video game industry can actually sell very, very well. Most of them use a major player's name, and suppose to have their "skills" in the process. Not that many of them can have a strong sense of enjoyment in the golf world, where everyone wants a more serious side in the sports world with football, and basketball. However, Nintendo seemed to hit the nail on the head with their 2000 creation.

With Mario Golf, the game consists of the start of four golfers, including Baby Mario, Peach, and a couple of others. Throughout the game, you can access the Get Character mode, which can help you challenge other characters like Mario, Bowser, and Yoshi. Once you win the character, you also need them, the harder the challenger in the round. It is also important in the Tournament mode, where you can also earn enough points toward newer golf courses and challenging holes in the process. Each course reflecting on the cute, Mario Brothers themed style, which makes it appealing to all ages old and young, where the other games don't seem to have that sense of enjoyment.

Although Nintendo stopped making games for the Nintendo 64, Mario Golf is only one of the very few sports games I highly recommend for the system. Although many people might not see the review, because of the newer game system reviews and newer games of the Gamecube, Xbox, and Playstation 2. ... Read more

Editorial Review

It is a time soon after the destruction of the first Death Star. Luke Skywalker has formed a squadron of hot-shot pilots to engage the still-formidable Imperial forces. You, as Luke, must lead this rogue squadron in a series of galaxy-spanning raids and rescues. To complete all your missions, you'll need good flying skills, fast reflexes, a keen eye, and a quick trigger finger.

You get to fly all your favorite ships: The X-wing, Y-wing, snowspeeder--even the Millennium Falcon. There are also some "secret" ships, such as the sleek Naboo Starfighterfrom Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace, a TIE interceptor, and, um, a '78 Buick.

The flight simulation in this game is first-rate. You'll find yourself leaning to the side as you pull a high-G turn in pursuit of Imperial TIE fighters. And the outstanding graphics and sounds are realistic enough to transport you to the Star Wars universe. Every detail is in place, right down to the individual Stormtroopers you can see running around (and trying to shoot you). One of the more impressive sequences lets you bring down Imperial Walkers by using the tow cables on your snowspeeder. Nice touch.

This is a single-player game, but you start each mission with a few wingmen from your squadron, and the well-done spoken dialogue between pilots and commanders really makes you feel like part of a team. The only significant shortcoming is the lack of a cooperative multiplayer option. With its excellent gameplay, varied environments, and interesting missions, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is sure to become a long-time favorite. --Eric Fredrickson

Pros:

  • Faithful to lots of Star Wars details
  • Satisfying flight action, explosions, sound effects
  • Interesting missions and plot
  • See--and fight over--the Spice mines of Kessel and other famous Star Wars planets
Cons:
  • For some reason, you can only fly clockwise when bringing down a Walker
  • No "easy" setting for those without The Force
  • Voices of Luke, Wedge, and Han don't sound like the real thing

5-0 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE STAR WARS GAME FOR NINTENDO 64!
This game is fun because it was giving to me by my brother. I have 4 medels on this game and my rank is cadet. I still have it and I love this game because it feels like I am in epsiodes 4-6. I reccomend this game for any star wars fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was so impressed with this game
I loved this game when I first played it (I still play it even today) the graphics where awsome, the sound was cool, the levels where all kinds of stratageys and the expansion pack worked great with it. The cheats to fly the falcon, tie fighters, naboo fighter ect all made the game even better. There is even a secret little mini game where you can control a Chicken Walker (AT-ST) and shoot up some droids and buildings in a small space.

The only downfall is there is no way to get unlimited heat seeker rockets, so you have to turn on your unlimited lives cheat and keep commiting suicide to get more of those rockets to win within the selected times to get the gold medal to become a Jedi. And there is no nice video's to watch when you finally clock the game. It just shows a quick shot of the ships flying away and then the credits roll... it would be nice to have had a video type of thing like all through the game.

Apart from that, this game rocked.. my the Shwartz be with you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fun
I was never a really big fan of sci-fi, and Star Wars just wasn't my thing. I couldn't really care less about those darned rebels. Obviously, my expectations for Rogue Squadron that summer day were not very high.

But you know what? I played the first mission and I was pleasantly surprised. The game actually wasn't that bad!It was actually quite entertaining just flying around and shooting these drones out from the sky. The game really isn't that easy to learn, especially if you buy the game used without an instruction booklet. There are basically a lot of nooks and crannies that I have yet to figure out, like what right-C does, or how bombs work. But the introductory missions are fun and pretty easy. However, the gameplay got to be quite repetitive. I mean, you just go around and shoot enemies from the sky. Yay. There are also a lot of sections where you have nothing to do, and it gets boring. Maybe I could have moved on to the third mission.

I also realized how visually stunning the game is. I have an Expansion Pak, so I really don't have a clue what the game would be like without it, but the graphics are just so crisp, at least certain features. The buildings and structures and ships and stuff look great, almost to the level of Half-Life. But the graphics for the people/Storm troopers leave more to be desired. They are obviously sprites. The music does have a Star Wars feel to it, and that's growing on me. I sometimes get certain tunes stuck in my head, and I don't mind. Most of the music is in the menus, though. 40 minutes of speech is nice, if only I could understand half of it. Rogue Squadron has no multiplayer, which is too bad. It would have been fun. Oh well. Overall, I actually kind of enjoyed this game. ... Read more

As with just about anything brandishing the Pokémon name,Pokémon Stadium is a must-have for any Pokémaniac. But thistitle is especially geared towards owners of Pokémon Red,Pokémon Blue, or Pokémon Yellow for the Game Boy.Using the same battle system as the Game Boy games--think highly advancedrock-paper-scissors--Pokémon Stadium allows players to entertheir Pokémon in a variety of tournaments and other battle modes, allfeaturing vibrant 3-D graphics and animation, as well as enhanced sounds andannouncer commentary. Using the included Transfer Pak, players can use their ownPokémon from Game Boy Game Paks, or they can choose from a pool ofrental Pokémon.

Pokémon Stadium isn't all battles, though. The Kids Club modefeatures nine cutesy minigames that make for great multiplayer fun for all ages.Gallery mode lets players take snapshots of Pokémon (similar toPokémon Snap), which can then be printed out as stickers at yourlocal Pokémon Snap station.

While Pokémon Stadium doesn't require that you already have anyGame Boy version of Pokémon, players won't be able to access twoof the best features of the game without one. Pokémon Lab allows playersto view, store, and better organize the data on their Game Paks, as well astrade Pokémon with another player (which requires an additional TransferPak, sold separately). GB Tower allows gamers to play their Game BoyPokémon cartridge on the Nintendo 64. --Joe Hon

5-0 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE POKEMON GAME FOR NINTENDO 64!
I love this game because it feels like I am in a real pokemon battle. I can pick all the cute pokemon out there inculding my favorite pokemon Pikachu! This game is fun and I recomend this game for any hard core pokemon fans like me!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great game with strange coincidences...
Pokemon Stadium is a great game that allows trainers to battle with the pokemon that they spent sooo much time training on their GameBoy pokemon red, blue,& yellow games! Note:You cannot use pokemon from the gold, silver, crystal, ruby, and sappire games, not to mention FR/LG versions of the game. I used to love playing this game back in 1999,but during the time that I used to play this game,I started to realize strange coincidences that always seemed to work in the enemy's favor! For some strange reason, moves with low accuracy, such as FISSURE,that also terminates one pokemon in a single hit! Would strike my pokemon WAY to often! Just to clarify, this is how it works,FISSURE only has a 30% chance of hitting an opponent, yet it seemed to strike my pokemon every time without fail! I have been know to refer to these coincidences as "Cheat-detectors" Because they only seem to happen if you are literally dominating your opponent! FISSURE is only an example, these "Cheat-detectors" can pop up at any time and effect any attack, you may find your attacks continueously missing you opponents pokemon for no appearent reason!!! These Cheat-detectors also exist in PokeMon Stadium 2,but Iam not sure if they exist in Pokemon Colosseum for the GameCube, but I'll bet that they are! This is not so much of a set-back as it is an annoyance,Cheat-detectors dont make the game impossible to win,but they do get in the way of winning as well as annoy you to no end. Pokemon Stadium & Pokemon Stadium 2
are worth the money and are entertaining to play! I recommend buying them, but be ready for lots of strange coincidences that effect overall game play.written by,

i am a kid.i am small.i played this game.it was not so good.ive played better games of go fish.

3-0 out of 5 stars Yoshi lover!
I am a big fan of Yoshi. I think he is cute(unlike most dinosaurs) and fun to play with. I really did like this game that I thought I didn't waste $20.00 on it. BUT this game could have been better.
The storyline is Baby Bowser has stolen a Super Happy Tree from the Yoshis. Now the Yoshis have to go through an adventure to rescue it. Basically you go through from pg.1-pg.6 (like a storybook) with 1 level each. Guess what, you play 6 levels to beat the game by eating 30 fruits in each level. Isn't that easy. But there are a total of ONLY 24 levels. You find other levels by getting the happy hearts you find in the level you are playing. There are only 5 bosses in the entire game who are kind of easy but baby Bowser can be hard. You can also find in the levels hidden black and white Yoshis that are better than the regular Yoshis. When you want to play a level again you go to the the Trial Mode. Throughout the game you have different items to help you. But Really, they should have put more into this game by adding a lot more levels, more goodies to earn, and maybe some minigames or multiplayer fun. The graphics in this game are not the best but hey its a storybook game so it really doesn't matter. This game is really for starters.
But overall I still had fun with this game. But hardcore gamers who are looking for a more challenging game shouldn't get this. Yoshi lovers may like this game but I don't know what your opinion of it is. Just rent it first! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best version of Tetris!
I love this game so much.It really added some new life into the world's favorite puzzler.I love that you can now swap a block you don't like. The graphics and sound to this day are still beautiful.I unlocked many of the backgrounds not all.I wish there was a cheat to see all the backgrounds, because some of us don't have the extra free time to get 500,000 line!

5-0 out of 5 stars God, I love this game!
This is the main reaon I'm gonna buy a N64(and GoldenEye). Yes, I own a PS2 and a XBOX but this is one of my favorite games of all time. One downside though, it's extremely addictive. Like crack even. Well, maybe not crack but pretty addictive.

4-0 out of 5 stars good tetris game for a console
I picked up "the new tetris" because it featured my favorate game variaton from the excellant Tetris Worlds for Game boy Advance, only this version doesn't cut off at level 15. You can play for as long as you can. The tetris game on this package is pretty much the same as the classic version, but you only get one point for each normal line cleared, but it is still a pretty good scoring system. another good thing this game features is that it tracks how long you managed to stretch a game. I've been able to stretch some games for over an hour. thats because there are a few frills added to this game that make it more interesting
one, you can take 4 identical or differant tetroids and weave them together to form a solid 4x4 square and get bonuses when you clear a line containg a portion of the square. 2, you can use the "T" shape peice to rotate into a tight place and cause all blocks to seperate and collapse. This gets you out of a tough situation, and the lines you clear during the collapse count towards your line total, however, it also cancles out any remaining bonus square sections. even after you've unlocked all the wonders, you can still get good entertainment from this game with the multiplayer. the only thing I have a problem with is the music. it's just mindless techno-music in the style of what ever world your playing in, and this game is LOUD. you always have to turn your television set down when you play this game. it would be nice if they could of put in a recording of "the dance of the suger plum fairy" (which, if you've read my review for Tetris worlds, you know is my favorite tetris song) on a celesta. ...

  • Kirby 64's copy and combin
