Editorial Review

Sir Topham Hatt and his equally robust consort are perky and colorful.Sir Topham Hatt wearshis trademark topper, gray flannels, and a black tailcoat with a rather smart yellow waistcoat; his wifesports a green skirt and a sensible sky blue blouse with lace collar.Their wooden heads sit on top of plasticbodies with movable arms. The legs also move (both together) so that either figure can be seated.Anyrebellious type over the age of 4 is going to find the large Phillips screw in the back of each figure too hardto resist, so early dismemberment is a distinct possibility. But these figures are a lot more lifelike than thetwo-dimensional wooden cutouts that come with many Thomas sets. The box claims they are 3 incheshigh, but they actually measure just under 2.5 inches. --Richard Farr ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Hatts
The Sir Topham and Lady Hatt figures are quite basic, with the face being a painted wooden sphere. The arms are movable, but they're pretty stiff.

Kids probably won't mind the lack of detail, especially since the characters in the Thomas videos aren't exactly crafted with fine details, either.

A nice addition for kids who love the whole Thomas the Tank Engine series of books, trains, and videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great addition to your Thomas collection.
I umm and aahh about spending this sort of money on a train table and playboard for my children but after doing my homework I decided this is the one I would buy.

Other train tables I have seen in stores are often wonky and seem quite unstable - and this is after they've been played on in the stores. So after seeing poorer quality tables for similar prices I decided to save up for the Thomas branded one and this single sided playboard.

Yes, it's expensive, but as with any "brand", it's the name you are paying for. If you want a Thomas collection of trains and accessories you are going to have to pay. I'm just starting our collection and am buying the "Thomas" trains and buildings, but found a compatible generic track for less than half the price. I was lucky enough to get this playboard at almost half price at a after Christmas sale. It's worth waiting for sales and price comparing.

It's beautifully painted and when used with the table frame is extremely strong (although I wouldn't recommend standing on it).

It's up to you to spend to decide if you want to spend this sort of money but I see this as something I won't ever have to replace and it's something my son can keep for his children. Toys like this will last!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun!
We just received this playboard a couple of days ago.My son loves it!He is almost 2 and really enjoys playing with all of his Thomas trains. This playboard makes playing more interesting. It arrived in fine condition...we didn't have the problem the other reviewer had.My son has a train table (not the Thomas one) and it fits perfectly. The playboard is a great addition to our Thomas the Tank Engine collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes playing with our trains much more fun!!
We have a collection of Thomas and Brio trains and track, and use this playboard on a table that we built. While it is impossible to actually construct track that stays on "dry land" (some of the playboard scenery is rivers etc) this background scenery does add to our enjoyment of the playing with trains. The whole family (ages 1 to 30-something) enjoys constructing new layouts.

This board can easily be damaged in transit. Our second attempt was successful. I advise you to order this well before you need it.

NOTE: We've had this for 4 years or so now. The plastic coating has all peeled off. It still looks nice though and is being used by another toddler now. When we bought this, it was the only good option for playing with trains;now there are so many basic playtables that could be used for a multitude of activities (puzzles, cars, blocks) - that I would buy something more versatile rather than this train themed tabletop. ... A wonderful first ride-on for your toddler, the Little Ms.Rescue Rider Toddler Activity Walker is attractively styled for thepint-sized heroine in your family. Loaded with eye-catching details, including official-looking decals and a play phone that makes realisticdialing noises, the Little Ms. Rescue Rider is made of durable plasticand comes with a removable walker bar mounted behind the rider's seat. The front console is equipped with a clicking gearshift and turningkey, and a squeaking horn is mounted on the center of the toddler-sizedsteering wheel. Toddlers can scoot around the playroom by taking holdof the steering wheel and pushing with their feet; parents can helplittle ones out by pushing on the walker bar as they ride. Toddlers canalso use the Rescue Rider as a walker by pushing the rider along frombehind while holding on to the walker bar for balance. Along with awide storage compartment under the seat, the Rescue Rider comes with afront storage box that can be detached and used as a portable carryingcase. --Chris Burns ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Girls Walker Rider
We bought this toy for our 1 1/2 year old daughter last year and she was very disapointed when the back part kept falling off.The handle where you push falls off with the lightest touch.Overall this item is very cheaply made. But you get what you pay for.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Construction
My 11 month old got this ride-on as a gift from a friend ( cheap friend). It is badly constructed in that the steering wheel's plastic is not smooth and scratches your child. The same is true of the ignition key. It is just outright cheap. My little girl used it to sit on every now and then while watching her videos. It was definitely not good as a walker toy since it has no traction and will move too quickly for little ones learning to walk. For those parents that hate noisy toys, as another reviewer mentioned earlier, it is quite noisy due to some kind of filler in the wheels. I suggest you spend a little more and get something more contoured for your child . There are plenty of inexpensive ride-ons to choose from instead of this cheap waste of plastic.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for in the house
Well I see from previous reviews alot of people were expecting too much of this toy for the amount of money. My daughter was given the car as a gift and she loves it. It's perfect if you have no carpet. The phone is nowhere to be found of course. The noise from the wheels can be annoying but it lets me know where my daughter is on it. She rides all over the house on it with no problem. It was good for teaching her to push with her legs. Sometimes she sits her dolls or stuffed animals on it and push. I've never taken it outside for use so i can't comment on it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Perfect as baby’s first ride-on toy, this plush pink pony has soft fur and a smooth plastic base and handles, leaving no parts that an unsteady toddler can get hurt on. The horse sits on a rocker for in-place riding and also has wheels that flip down for riders who want to hit the trail. For additional delight, this horse makes sound and wiggles his nose whenever his ears are squeezed. A squeeze to the left ear starts up a happy riding song, while a pinch to the right ear causes the horse to whinney or speak one of two different greetings. The electronic sound runs on two AA batteries, which are safely hidden in a zippered compartment in the horse’s belly. The horse comes with a riding hat that is a better fit for adults than toddlers. It comes unassembled but is easy to put together using the included instructions. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY small
When I was looking at a rocking horse for my 12 month old daughter I thought this would be perfect, it's cute and pink. Fortunately I went to Toys R Us to look at it first.
This is extremely small, I dont know how it would be any fun for a 4 year old. This is a great size for a 1 year old but after that I cant see it lasting.
I ended up getting the "Rock N Bounce Pony" from Radioflyer. It is about 20 dollars more but will definately last until your child is 4 years old. Plus it bounces and rocks.

1-0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY UPSET!!
2 yr old daughter played with Pink Pony for approx. 1.5 days (Christmas) and the music portion doesn't play. Followed instructions and installed new batteries, mouth still moves but that is it. The overall quality is fair at best.

Purchased this here on line and now Amazon.com (Third party for Toys R Us)is telling me it is not returnable. To say the least, we are not happy with Amazon or Toys R Us !!!!!!

The well-built Explorer Wagon is a chunky plastic towing wagon that measures over 3 feet long and 21 inches wide and is colored red, tan, and teal. It's like an old-fashioned red wagon on steroids! The long black handle makes for comfortable towing and doubles its overall length. Its wheels are 3 inches thick and 9 inches in diameter, and the side panels pop out for loading. 5-0 out of 5 stars Explorer wagon
Well I must say I read a lot of reviews about his wagon, and it pays to buy it and test it for yourself. We have had this wagon since 1996, and we still have it. My daughter got it for her first Christmas, and she is now ten. She still fits in the wagon perfectly, and also pulls around her 7 year old brother and 5 year old sister, who can both fit in it at the same time. We have never had any problems with the wagon, in spite of people's complaints about the wagon being noisy. So what? As long as the kids are having fun, who cares if the tires make noise on the pavement. My kids have put many miles on our wagon, and never once has anything broke on it, or fell off. The tires are still going strong, and everything is in tact. I expect my kids to use this until the last child has outgrown the usage. The handle is long enough that even adults can use it without straining their backs. My kids have been able to pull this wagon around since they were old enough to walk on their own. Get over the noise, and get busy having some fun. If noise is your problem, get over it! It's a small price to pay for your children having fun, and getting some calories burned off. It doesn't make anymore noise than a basketball being bounced.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Kids Love It!!
We got this for our kids 2 years ago and they absolutely love it.We usually have at least 2 kids in it at a time.We use it for everything. The kids love using it for collecting things in the yard.It is very sturdy and has held up wonderfully. ... Read more

The leading lady of the big screen gem Thomas and the MagicRailroad, Lady is a beautiful magenta-and-gold engine who holds thesecret to the Magic Railroad. She measures a petite 2 inches long andhas exquisite detailing, including a wide-eyed, charming face and hername scripted on the side panels. 5-0 out of 5 stars After Two years of use it's time for another one
I was really disapointed when I found my Lady's paint chipped off in most places. We need a new one now and that's a bummer becase I have at least 70 thomas trains and most of them survived pretty well .

5-0 out of 5 stars For 18 months to 8 years: Be prepared to buy them all!
The Thomas train and train collections are durable toys. Their real value, though, is that playing with the toys allows children to act out the great Thomas and Friends children's stories they read and watch.

The only problem--if you can call it that--is that you can't just buy one! Your kids will want more and more. These are the most played with toys our son has. The characters are his friends, and we tell stories with Thomas, James, Gordon, and the rest of the gang.

Lady only appears in the Thomas and the Magic Railroad movie. But she is an important character, and the kids adore her. My own three-year old son was so overcome with excitement at the sight of Lady that for a long time he couldn't watch her when she first appeared on-screen and wouldn't play with her when we initially bought him this toy. She is magical, and kids pick up on that. THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL PIECE IF YOUR CHILD HAS SEEN THE THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD MOVIE.Note that durability is an issue: the smokestack is very thin at the bottom and can easily snap off.

Purchasing recommendation:
* Choose which type of Thomas trains you will 'standardize' on. There are three kinds: This size of wooden trains from Learning Curve; larger, plastic, battery-operated trains from Tomy; and smaller, die-cast metal trains from Ertl. The wooden trains have the most products and accessories available.

* The clickety-clack (grooved to look like real railroad) track in the Thomas series is great, but it's expensive; I recommend buying generic track. ... You can literally save hundreds of dollars by buying these kinds of sets.

* Buy the Thomas and friends engines separately--and wait for sales. The kids care about the characters, so no short-cutting (ie., Brio or generic trains) here.

* Look for trains bundled with VHS videos. You can get a video and a train (on sale) for about the same price as a train alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not what I expected

I know Edward is old and my train sure is but he can still pull trains likje the big engines. His magnet is in perfect working order and he can pull a couple coaches without trouble at all. This molded plastic tricycle has a pink body with white knobbywheels, a yellow seat, and a yellow basket. For children who are new totrike riding, this is an excellent starter bike. When little ones gettired of pedaling, parents can keep them going by pushing them alongusing the handle on the back of the bike. Kids can put their feet onthe footrest while parents push. Kids may remember Bertie the Bus as Thomas the Tank Engine's worthy opponent in a race where the two become good pals. At least that's how this 3.5-inch-long, bright red, fresh-faced bus appears in one of W. Awdry's preschooler books, Thomas and Bertie. Now kids can include Bertie in their Thomas Wooden Railway System, a creative assemblage of sturdy vehicles, tracks, and scenery all based on the popular Thomas the Tank Engine book, television, and video series. As a bus, Bertie travels separately from most of the system's train-car characters. But he's always greeted as a welcome friend at railway crossings or station parking lots. 4-0 out of 5 stars Let's have a race!
Now you can own Bertie the bus, Thomas' loyal friend who has always been there to help. Thomas first met Bertie when he got stuck in the snow. Terence came to rescue Thomas and Bertie came to pick up Thomas' passengers. The next time Thomas and Bertie met, Bertie challenged Thomas to a race. If you haven't seen that story, I will not tell you who won, but you can find that story on a lot of Thomas tapes. The only bad thing about this toy is that it doesn't have any magnets or anything but I guess your child will just have to use his/her imagination.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as fun as others
Bertie is nice to have but my son barely plays with it. It won't attach to anything else, no magnets. Like another review says, it doesn't go well on the tracks, even the the road side of the dual purpose tracks.

5-0 out of 5 stars we love our new toy!
my 16 month old daughter loves her scooter, just like mom and dads.we own a scooter shop and the customers think it is hilarious to see our daughter riding her scooter.fuses have never been a problem for us, it works perfect.the only thing different was my daughter wanted to twist the throttle on the right and that does not do anything.it was a little difficult getting her to use the left pull.she does not steer yet so i just put her in a circle and around she goes.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to use
we saw this online and really wanted it, but decided to wait because of the reviews. well today we went to an outlet store that sells new stuff at huge discount prices, and it was only 10.00 my son has already ridden the heck out of it with no problems, and he loves it. we havent had to replace a fuse and it just the right size for my 1 and a half year old. its a really great little bike, but for the workmanship of it, i definitly wouldnt pay 50 dollars for it, maybe 30-35 most. we just got blessed with a really great deal:) so if ya want this for your kids, its great for the smaller rider, and just the right speed for him to control. hope this helps someone:)

3-0 out of 5 stars Mom of Twins
I got the fire truck puzzle for my 20 month old twin boys, who love all types of vehicles, especially emergency vehicles, and have "graduated" from the single shape peg puzzles. They loved the fire truck, but required assistance to put it all together. My criticism is that the fire truck puzzle pieces could be cut according to parts of the fire truck, such as wheels, window, etc, which would also conceptually teach the parts of a vehicle and make putting the puzzle back together more logical/easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent transitional puzzle
This is a wonderful wood puzzle for the toddler who finds the baby wood puzzles too easy but who doesn't quite have the dexterity (or patience) to fit together classic puzzle shaped pieces.Because it is all wood, it can stand up to the wear and tear of a toddler. My son (20 months) found this hard at first, but was thrilled to have the challenge and would not stop working on it for days until he could do it easily. The picture is underneath the pieces. The is one of my son's very favorite toys of all time! He also loves the school bus one that is similar by the same company.

4-0 out of 5 stars Survived Destruct-o boy!
Soon after my sons 2nd birthday, I searched for puzzles that would challenge him more than the 1-piece, 1-hole type. What I found was stimulating for my little guy, and it gave us countless hours of one of one time together. The "Fire Truck Peg Puzzle" is different from other peg puzzles that have one piece per opening. This puzzle has one large opening, and no separations. The puzzle encourages young children to think, yet at the same time have fun, because it includes the same picture beneath the pieces. It requires more concentration than the stage-1 type of puzzle, and it was exactly what William needed.

I found this age group learns, and retain more information from realistic pictures, or photographs of everyday things, rather than animated illustrations. The manufacturer of this toy understands that, and although the Fire Truck is a rendered drawing, it closely resembles its real-life counterpart. The puzzle is designed well.By that, I mean the division of the pieces is perfectly presented. In addition, each piece includes a red peg so the puzzle is easy to work.

William has enjoyed this puzzle from the time I eyed it in the store. In fact, he's not ready to give it up, and why should he.He turns 3 next month, so he's had 8 good months with the "Fire Truck Peg Puzzle" and will probably continue to "work it" a while longer. It's held up well considering my sons destruct-o moods, and will probably carry on for the next generation's play and abuse. 2-years and up.

Happy Playing,

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Price - Best for Older Infants, Toddlers & Preschoolers
We wanted some kind of ride-on toy for our son for his first Xmas, but he was only 10.5 mos. and not walking yet,so the rockin' puppy was not exactly something he could play with independently. He seemed to enjoy it at first - as long as we were rocking him. Then it became another toy taking up space in the livingroom for the last month.Recently he has been making his way over to it and begging for us to rock him.It is durable and requires almost no installation. He has learned to stand up in it and climbs down just fine.If you're not worried about minor bumps, let your infant try different ways of riding. My son's cousins, between 2-7 years all enjoy the rockin' puppy. For the price,it is a good first ride-on and I don't regret the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Rocker
My 14 month loves this rockin horse and has been rockin on it since she was 10mo. (She walked early) My 4 year old still rocks on it too! They love it. Definitely a great toy!The shipping price is too high in my opinion.

This miniature water tower is a simple, clever toy that is fun for any age. Attached to a smallplatform and piece of track, it fits neatly into the Thomas the Train layout that your child has alreadydesigned. A lever action pump "empties" and "fills" the see-through tower, so your child will have a realsense of filling up the engine.

Based on the award-winning Shining Time Station television series, the Thomas the Tank Enginetrain system fulfills all of a child's train-set dreams. Each 2-inch-high, wooden vehicle has black plasticwheels and a different name, character, and face, and there are magnetic bumpers at the ends for easylink-up. Your child will delight in making the pieces interact during imaginary play and will learn socialskills playing train with friends. Designed to keep pace with your child's development, this toyencourages the use of new motor and cognitive skills. Other track pieces and accessories are available.--Sandy Hirsch ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Son Loves The Water Tower!
My son had been asking for the Water Tower for quite some time, so we finally got it for him.

The plastic that encases the liquid is very, very sturdy--and it has never leaked. (Believe me...my son puts his Thomas accessories through the paces!) It's quite heavy, and fits right onto the wooden railway. By moving the black spout up and down, the blue liquid appears to empty and re-fill.

Kids seem to be fascinated with it, including my son. I definitely recommend the Water Tower as a neat accessory to any wooden railway system.

We have a LOT of water towers in our city and my son is just fascinated with them. So, I bought this water tower after he refused to stop playing with it at The Anderson's General store. What a great purchase this is!I personally love watching the pretend water going up and down with the movement of the spout."Water tower" as my little one calls it, goes everywhere with us.To church, to grandma's, grocery store, you name it, it's his favorite train piece. Why, I have no idea but I do know that he, along with every other child I've seen with it, absolutely adores this tower. ... Endorsed by three-time Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis as "the best way to learn to swim," this is an ingenious system designed for 2-to-3-year-olds who weigh between 20 and 35 pounds. Under adult supervision, youngsters sandwich themselves between two yellow foam plates that feature Velcro shoulder straps and slide toggles for adjustable fit. The ingenuity is in the composition of those foam plates: They're each composed of nine slices of foam.As a child's swimming skills increase with time, these float pads can be removed one by one; soon kids will be dog-paddling with the best of 'em--and all by themselves! If it's not a perfect substitute for swimming lessons from a qualified instructor, the Safe T. Seal Little Swimr Swim Trainer does provide a wonderful way for kids to gain confidence in the water. --Tony Mason ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Swim Aid
I got this last year for my toddler and he was able to swim almost anywhere in the pool.A friend recomended it to me and credits this float with helping her son learn to swim.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching device
My daughter started with this a year ago and is doing great. The device really helps children build confidence and independence in the water, which essential in learning to swim. Unlike rings and devices that go fit around arms, the Swim Trainer does not restrict arm movement, which is essential to learning to balance and swim.

Tipping Over:Some reviewers comment that their children lose their balance in the Swim Trainer and go face down in the water.Initially you still have to be there and help your child with balance until they can do it alone--learning to balance and control your body is an important first step in swimming, just as with walking. The point when the child can balance most of the time leads to confidence and independence ("Do it myself!"). Rings and flotation devices that fit on the arms will make it much easier for the child to balance, but the child therefore won't learn to swim as quickly. Also, most rings and arms flotation devices are inflatable and often prohibited by swimming clubs and public pools.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best swimmy ever
This is the best swimmy out on the market right now.It completely keeps your child out of the water. As you take the panels out as they grow they don't even realize that they can swim. Before you know it you don't need it anymore. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful!!!
My son got this as a gift and absolutely loves it!He was about 18 months old and his legs were a little short for the riding part but the rocking part was just fine for him. He is getting ready to turn 2 and now rocks and rolls all over the house! He even fell asleep on it one time. The only issue I have is the zipper underneath...he flips it over and acts like he is working on it.

1-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL

When Thomas the Tank Engine and friends get dirty after a long day's work, they can headstraight for the Sodor Engine Wash. This 6-inch-tall wooden building snaps directly into your Thomas theTank Engine railway system. Just drive the engines up to the building, turn the large red knob on the roof, and the blue foam grips will pull the engines through the wash in either direction. The Sodor Engine Washhas a smooth black roof with a silver water tank perched on top and brick facades with fancy archways oneither side. This handsome and durable structure will add lots of interest to your Thomas the Tank Enginerailway system. --Elisabeth Fredrickson ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Preston's Mommy and #1 Play Pal
My son loves to play with the Thomas the Tank Engine wooden track and vehicles-he is 2 1/2 and makes believe that Percy gets all dirty (like in the video) and drives him through the engine wash. He is very creative when playing with his Thomas toys and keeps him busy for hours. The colors are bright and with the numbers on the engines, he is very eager to count and they have also helped with learning his colors!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to my son's collection, he loves it!
My son is 4 and 3/4 years old, and received the engine wash for his third birthday. He has had no difficulty operating it, and it is holding up wonderfully. The foam wash rollers look just like new after having countless trains run through them. There are a few pieces that may get caught up a bit but it's quite easy to release them by giving them a little push from behind.

The same engine wash is part of the local toy store's set, which obviously gets tons of wear.It is holding up very well, and is clearly a favorite of the children who sample it at the store.

I would highly recommend this piece to any Thomas enthusiast age 3 and up.I can imagine it may be challenging for a younger toddler to operate it, but it isn't intended for that age anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun

5-0 out of 5 stars My Daugther Adore This Toy!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought my daughter a walker from Graco but she hated it because she doesn't like to feel restrain....So, at 10 months she started grabbing this ride-on by the handles and started walking all around the house with it!!! She loves to sounds of the musical keys and the ignition key.Now she's 13 months and even thought she doesn't really ride-on it, she loves to take it every where, and she even uses it to climb wherever she wants to.Ahhh!! And if we loose something in the house (like the remote control) we just have to look for it in the storage compartment, her secret place to hide EVERYTHING!!
I don't know if this is going to be a great toy for somebody else, but for me IS DA BEST!!! Because my daughter never gets tired of it and she loves it!!
