5-0 out of 5 stars Great first truck
My son has this and one other handle hauler. He loves them both! He carries one in each hand and then gets down on his knees and pushes them side by side. As most Little Tikes toys, this truck is inexpesive, durable and very much age appropriate. Great gift for a first birthday! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Much more fun than the plain crossover bridge of the simplest Thomas sets, this lifting bridgehas solid "brick" pilings, green plastic "steel beam" bridge railings, and a simple winding mechanism(driven by a hidden string pulley) for raising the bridge deck.Since a section of rail line goes underneath, this can't be for allowing the passage of tall-masted yachts, but it would be ideal if, say, Percy weretowing a freight car containing an upended dog biscuit. It also has a control tower and two swinging stop sign barriers. --Richard Farr ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Our first building
I have to say that this is one of those products that if you needed two, even though it's expensive, I'd spend the money again. After having purchased this item, I have bought my son 5 more buildings from the Thomas Wooden Railway System.

This bridge is great and with only two exceptions is perfect.

The first exception is that the little stop barriers come off much too easy and though this isn't a problem for my son, I regularly find them in my 11 month old daughters mouth.

The second drawback is that the track located under the bridge is of an extremely unusual length. I have put a tremendous effort into finding the right combination of tracks to make it so that I can have a nice clean, equal length track matching it elsewhere, but it doesn't seem possible. This isn't a big problem since there is some flexibility in the tracks, but it wouldn't have been nicer if they added a little in the length to make it more like the rest of the tracks.

I would of course not complain about this, but I hope that the manufacturer reads these reviews for feedback before designing other components.

The bridge itself is fabulous. I feel that since the knob which raising and lowers the bridge is quite tight, it has helped my son form motor better motor skills. The detail on the building is excellent, quality design and attention to detail is what makes me love the Thomas series more than Brio and others.

If you're looking for a good first building, this is a great one. I have to say that it has been fabulous for me and my son. Well with the exception that after purchasing the bridge, I had to buy a lot more track to make it fit and explain to my patient wife that "We need it dear... Really :)"

5-0 out of 5 stars Hours of Fun
I was a bit taken back by the price, but the durability that goes along with these products is worth it.I gave this to my two year-old-son and he has been playing with it non-stop.The crank is easy to use, even for your toddler.Worthy investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars My child loves this but...
My four year old daughter particularly wanted this Thomas bridge because of its close resemblance to some of the bridges in the videos (unlike some of the new buildings). It is a particularly attractive addition to her set, but (and I regret to complain about a toy brand that has given my child so many hours of intensive play), after only a few uses the string that lifts the bridge is already giving way, causing the drawbridge to slip down after it's been raised. My child still plays with it, and always adds it to her latest set-ups, but the bridge stays down a lot nowadays out of frustration with this slipping.

Also, parents should note the bridge's lower course track connections are on both sides "female" - you may wish to buy an additional "male" track adapter pack if you (ie, your child) still can't resist this one, for ease of construction. ... Read more

Editorial Review

You can tell from Toby's serious expression that he means to get the job done--well. He is a small freight engine but also pulls local commuter cars. He is dark brown, with a gray bumper and skirt. Based on the award-winning television series Shining Time Station by the Reverend W. Awdry, the Thomas the Tank train system fulfills all of a child's choo-choo dreams. Each vehicle has a different name, character, and face. It is wooden and 2 inches high with black plastic wheels. The magnetic bumpers at both ends of each vehicle make linkup easy. Children will become friends with each one, developing not only imaginative play but social skills and new motor and cognitive skill as they mature. --Sandy Hirsch ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and long-lasting
When my son, a Thomas fan since age 1.5, asks for a toy it is always an engine from the Thomas series.Toby is one of his favorite.Toby is a tram engine, one of the most good natured engines in the Thomas stories. While the toy does not have any interactive and fancy features, it gives my son the opportunity to relive his favorite Thomas stories.

For that reason, Toby and any of the other engines make excellent gifts to any 2+ year old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Tram Engine
Toby is a tram engine. There are a lot stories about him, like Toby sadly retired until one day Sir Tophem Hatt found that he is a very usefulengine; Toby helped Mavis the little diesel out of trouble; Toby and Percytogether made a kind joke at Thomas about the ghost train; etc. There isalso a beautiful song about him. My three little children like him becausehe is very special. They often fight for the ownership. I wonder if Ishould buy two more of this. I do have five Thomas engines. But they stillfight for the different facial expression. good toys! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fun, Fun!
My son received this as a gift for his second birthday, and he LOVES it.He likes cars and trucks of all kinds, but this is by far his favorite; he is happy to sit and play with it for 20 minutes (or more), which is an eternity for a 2-year-old.

We like it because it has 3 volume levels, plus an "off" setting, and even the loudest level isn't obnoxious. If your little toe touches that garage, it's bound to set off one of the noises, but the sound effects are fun and endurable, even after the millionth hearing.

In spite of its sound effects and movable elevator, this isn't a high-tech toy that plays itself while the child watches.I really like this garage because it encourages pretend play, and when my son is a little older, he'll be able to adjust the ramps himself in various formations. For now, it's fun to watch him start to predict where the cars will go when they slide down ramps, or in and out of the elevator.I wish there were more ramps and ways to configure them, but for a toddler, it's plenty of variety.

We also got the Mega Blocks Fast Track toy (which is nice because we can use some of those ramps and supports to add to the garage), and the Mega Blocks Farm. Both of these are fun, but the garage is the clear favorite in our house.

The set very sturdy and durable, too, even though it gets dragged onto the couch and table and into various rooms.Another big bonus is that it doesn't come with tons of small removable pieces that end up adding to the clutter because you can't remember what pieces go with which toy.I am so happy when I find toys he loves that don't require extensive clean-up or inspire migraines after their use.

I would recommend this toy for cars & trucks afficionados--lots of fun!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun toy for my 16 month old
My son already has the Mega Bloks wagon so we wanted to get him something he could build upon.He loves to send the car up and down the ramp.I like how it has 3 different sound settings for volume so if it's too loud we can turn it down.My husband likes to move the ramp all around and make the car jump off of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS!
We couldn't WAIT to take this toy out of the package! We already own the Fast Tracks toy from Mega Blocks which also has ramps and such - so naturally since we had so much fun with the first one we had to tear into the second! There are so many fun interative elements to this toy - the elevator makes noise as you lift it up, the elevator car-floor spins, and then lifts so you can dump your trucks down the ramp.It also makes fun noises while you lift and lower the elevator. The garage door opens and makes noise as well - it's fun to "park" your truck in the garage. The car wash section makes fun bubbly noises and then a noise that sounds like the dryer that you drive through at the real car wash. When you drive your truck into the elevator, it even makes the classic "ding ding.... ding ding" when you drive up the ramp. The only down side to this toy as with the Fast Tracks toy - is that there just aren't enough ramps. You can only build one full size ramp that goes from the top of the toy to the floor --- major bummer in my book.My son is learning how to lift gently to make the elevator go up, how to spin the elevator car-floor, how to build the cars, how to build the ramps - and he's doing it all by himself - but mommy just HAS to get in there too because it's really a fun toy.Even after he's gone to bed and I'm cleaning up toys, I find myself running the cars down the ramps as I clean!FUN FUN FUN!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome ride-on toy for the price!
My son absolutely loves this firetruck. He has been riding it EVERY day since he got it on his first birthday and he is 19 months old now.He loves to play the songs over and over again. It is a wonderful and durable toy.My son loves to turn it upside down and every which way and it has held up just fine. I do agree that it is very loud and needs a volume control, but I solved that with some masking tape over the speaker. The neatest thing is the dome on the front of the truck with the scene that spins around as the music plays.Overall, I would have to say this is a great ride-on toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fire engine ride on
Durable, dependable, tough, with lots of sound to amaze and keep any child happy for hours. I was watching 2 boys 20 mos.
and 2 years old play with this toy. One was riding as the other was amazed with the movement of the fire engine and dog. This will last a long time and has peek a boo action as well as music. Has tip bar on rear so item will not tip backwards when child is sitting on seat correctly. Highly recommend this item.

1-0 out of 5 stars Loud & Obnoxious
My son received this for his first birthday from my mother-in-law.There isn't a volume control for the music...you can't even turn it off.To make matters worse, when my son presses the button again and again, the song repeats itself like a broken record. He loves it, of course, but it drives my husband and I crazy.I threw the toy outside the other day and it got caught in a downpour.I hope it short-circuited. ... Editorial Review

A high speed cops and robbers car chase has long been the stuff of scripted TV dramas as well as the unscripted evening news. Now, somewhat incongruously, the chase comes to the world of toys for very young children. In this brightly colored set, kids lay out tracks either according to their own imaginations or using the prescribed layout detailed in the step-by-step instructions. A bright red sports car and a black and white police car are included and cast as the lead characters in this story. At the flip of a switch, you can hear the screech of brakes being slammed on, the building roar of acceleration and even the tell-tale sound of police sirens. A volume control mitigates the noise. Theres nothing all that realistic or graphic about this set but all the same parents should be aware of the implicit violence of the situation. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely kit for boy
Finally, I bought this kit to my 2 year old son when I visited US last month. My son plays it with his 7 mega bloks cars everyday (Somehow, police car turns out to be his favor among other cars). Like other reviewers' comments, the only complain for this kit is that it need more tracks, especially for the straight ones. I really like to see Mega bloks will provide extra features in the near future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our son LOVES this!!
My husband bought this a little over a week ago.Our 18M old son has played with it extensively everyday since. We bought some more of the cars since he loves them so much.

We already had two Mega Bloks sets, so setting up different ramp patterns was not an issue for us.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best for the price
I bought this for my three-year-old son for Christmas, and before he had even played with it for two minutes, the cab with the crane part was broken at the point where it snaps on to the flatbed. For $55, I feel this is a cheaply made product. The plastic is flimsy and the parts are not durable. However, he does like it, although it is frustrating for him to have to constantly try to put the cab and crane back on the flatbed portion. I would not recommend this product because there are so many more well made trucks and machines out there for 1/2 the price or less./

5-0 out of 5 stars Pricey for a Plastic Toy
My son got this as a Christmas present and absolutely loves the truck. The only "issue" I had with the toy was that it was all Plastic for toy with so high a price tag.His Tonka trucks are 1/2 the price and are metal. He soes love it and plays with it often.

3-0 out of 5 stars a mixed bag
my kids begged for a logging truck after watching the "House Construction Ahead" video that includes footage of cool logging machines. Our Brio garbage truck has been so durable (they RIDE the thing, for heavens sake) that I figured this would be bomber as well. However, the pick-up claw broke after 10 minutes (on christmas morning, ouch). The company cheerfully replaced the broken piece, but that also broke after a couple days. The claw was never easy for little hands to manipulate - sized more for a grown-up and causing much toddler frustration - so I never bothered replacing it again. But the rest of the truck keeps going and going. My kids are now nearly 40 pounds and they have ridden it with their full weight daily for nearly a year now. I think its indestructible. What a shame that they put such a junky claw piece on an otherwise sturdy toy ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrence the Tractor - great little guy
Terrence is probably not made for the track - since he is a tractor and is meant to be used in fields, or for plowing snow. That said, this little guy goes about everywhere in our house and we haven't had any trouble with the tire treads. If your child is prone to pick at such things like mine is, just to see if he can get them off, then I suggest maybe advising otherwise. My little one figured out how to get them off very quickly, but became aggravated that they were not on when he was "plowing the field."So, I put them back on and well, they haven't come off since.

Some neat role playing occurs with Terrence. He just opens new doors for working outside of the track and especially with all the new construction guys that have been introduced lately like Alfie and Jack.Terrence has a lot of fun in our house and he comes highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Terrence!
My son is a huge fan of the Thomas & Friends diecast trains and building sets.Despite the fact he had amassed a large portion of these toys, an important character was missing from his collection: Terrence the Tractor.Of course, he was thrilled when this little vehicle showed up in his Easter basket.

No, Terrence is not a train, but one of the tractors that plows the fields on the Island of Sodor.Terrence is a wonderful character, with his bright orange coat of paint and happy face.He has one magnet on his back end, perfect for pulling trains (or having trains pull him).In all honesty, we have not had any problems with Terrence's treads coming off--they are designed to wrap tightly around the wheels when rolling, so no matter how hard my three-year-old tugs on them, they stay put.Terrence is also a very durable toy--my son has dropped him, stepped on him, ran him into the other trains, and Terrence shows no signs of wear, tear, split wood, or chipped paint. Finally, Terrence is small enough to fit easily in my son's hands during play, but can also be slipped into a coat pocket during a car trip.

All in all, Terrence is a terrific vehicle, and a perfect addition to a child's Thomas & Friends collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars He is not a train, he's a tractor

Perfect as baby’s first ride-on toy, this plush spotted puppy has soft fur and a smooth plastic base and handles, leaving no parts that an unsteady toddler can get hurt on. The dalmatian sits on a rocker for in-place riding and also has wheels that flip down for riders who have a bigger agenda. For additional delight, this doggie has a bell around her neck that jingles when she moves, and she plays one of five children’s songs whenever her left ear is squeezed. The electronic sound runs on two AA batteries, which are safely hidden in a zippered compartment in the dalmatian’s belly. This toy is wonderful! I don't have anything bad to say about it except that we have noticed after an evening of playing with it that it is starting to ride crooked. It no longer rides in a straight line. My daughter is 11 months and she absolutely loves it. Evertime the music plays she starts rocking and making the dalmation rock. I love the fact that you can put the wheels up for rocking play and bring them down for rolling play. My husband and I take turns pushing her back and forth. 5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect Begining set
If you start out with the "Conductor's Figure 8 set, like me, this set is perfect. If you get Annie & Claribel and combind them. It's Perfect!

3-0 out of 5 stars BORING and confusing
Well, I bought this track and found that after adding it to the track layout of the trains which my son plays with, first, it confuses him since he sees another "Choo Choo" car which in fact isn't a choo choo, but I can't explain that to a 2 year old.

The next bad part is that the extra tracks are part of the package. So when you clean up, you have a box full of tracks of which some just isn't compatible since a curved roadway track is not very useful when laying out a track for the choo choo.

Well, the boring part comes when you set up the road way and you can't quite explain to your kid that the little red car is for the roadway and the other ones are for the rail way. Of course then he takes the red car, puts it on the road and tries to add more cars behind the car since he believes that they're all supposed to daisy chain. At this point he gives up and just plays with the trains.

There's no real benefit to a small child to add this confusion to the system. I love Thomas the Train and I hope they focus more on the rail way and ditch the cars, they aren't that much fun and I have to keep them in a separate box so that it doesn't confuse my son.

P.S. - Of course the toy isn't really meant for 2 year olds, but when we have friends visiting, it tends to confuse the older (3-4 year) kids as well and they never bother with them. In fact, one friend actually picked out a curved roadway piece and pretended it was a grenade. He pretended to pull a pin out of it with his teeth, spit the pin out and then threw the piece across the room and said "vvvvvvvvv... BOOM!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toy
This is my son's favorite toy.He has tons of trains, cars, etc.and this is by far the one he plays with the most.He is fifteen months and he received it as a gift for his 1st birthday. It is small enough for him to handle but big enough that I don't have to worry about him chocking on little pieces. It is definitely with the money.

I'm amazed at parents saying they bought this toy for a 1st Birthday!!!That is completely dangerous..I agree. This toy is not recommended for a child that young. It is for 2 and up so for all you folks disappointed put it away and give it to them at the appropriate and SAFE time.Even 16mo is probably too young and yes it does not surprise me in the least that they would fall through the hole. They put age recommendations on toys for a REASON.

My 2.5yr old LOVES this car and will not play with anything else.He is a very tall boy at 95% in height and weight and fits very comfortably. I was looking for a good size car that he could use for a few yrs and did not want to get those big motorized cars. This was perfect. We tried the Cozy Coupe with the hard top but saw too many kids climbing on top and tipping it over.We tried the one with the soft convertible top but found the entrance more narrow and my son a more difficult time getting in/out/This one he would hop in/out w/ no problems and had lats of leg room.

1-0 out of 5 stars DANGEROUS!!!
My son received this for his 1st birthday and we had it stored until now (he is 16 months). Now it will be stored permanently IN THE TRASH!There is no floor plate, which means that a child needs to keep his/her feet up...OK...but what if they put their feet down?Well, they propell forward and smash their face or slide backward and get stuck between the steering wheel and the rough edges of the seat.My son is now nursing a back abrasion and welts on his belly because he got stuck - it took my husband and me to get the thing off him while he screamed. This is overpriced and dangerous.I hope that this review can save one parent the misery of seeing their child in pain from being hurt on the Big Red Car.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOOT TOOT CHUGGA CHUGGA!!
MY 19 MONTH OLD SON RECIEVED THIS CAR AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT. HE IS A HUGE WIGGLES FAN AND ABSOLUTELY LOVES THIS CAR.IT IS A LITTLE LARGE FOR INSIDE SO WE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL IT WARMS UP OUTSIDE!!IT DID TAKE A LITTLE TIME FOR HIME TO LEARN HOW TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE CAR!!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CAR!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, you HAVE to buy Diesel!
This guy is so much fun to have for your little one's train set!Oh, the trouble he causes in the films and now, well, he's up to no good at your house too.The imagination Diesel stirs is a ton of fun and our little one is trying to make Diesel and "good boy" all the time instead of being bad. What a great addition to our set and I'm so very glad that we finally found one here on amazon.Highly recommend! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My Son Loves his Trucks
My son is now 20 mos old and has 2 of these Handle Haulers. He loves them! He's had them since his first birthday, and no complaints and the fun is still going strong.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unsafe and unfair!
We bought this for my son who turned one. He can walk, crawl, get around and is pretty coordinated. When he uses his one arm to press down on this truck to move it across the carpet the rear wheels of the truck quickly buck up the front of the truck and hit him in the forehead. After this happened three times, we removed it from the playroom. So many tears....not a nice way to introduce your son to trucks! We are sending it back to Little Tykes. We were really surprised they didn't think this one through. Did anyone the age of 1 actually test this out before it hit the shelves?

5-0 out of 5 stars A+
My son at 9 months old recieved this toy for Christmas. He loves this toy.He carries and pushes it by the handle, places his farm animal toys inside, makes vroom sounds when playing with it. He places it on couch and pushes it down to watch it tumble down. Let me just say it is durable because it has been put to the test by him. My daughter who is 4 years old also loves to play with it. She pretends she is a firefighter. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Can this be called a mere train? In glorious yellow, red, and green with a silk ribbon tail, the exotic rolling Chinese Dragon is fit for royalty. With eight working wheels, this car can take the curves with the best of 'em. Its festive air makes the sturdy 4-inch wood car perfect for a parade or a carnival. Based on the popular Thomas the Tank Engine series by Reverend W. Awdry and the PBS television show Shining Time Station, the wooden railway system is compatible with other magnetic train sets. You can reenact all the exciting stories in the series or make up new ones. Thomas fans won't want to miss out on any of these fun, well-built railway characters. --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the money-much smaller than the image-
This car carrier is quite small 11" long 5" high-the photo looks like a much larger item.I paid $24.99 for the product-and at most I would pay is $10.00.Because the item is surely not worth the money that I paid, I have to pay to ship it back so I have to absorb these cost.I lost $3.99 by ordering this, the company should be ashamed of the price they are asking.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids Love it!
I bought this toy for my one year old last year and both he and my three year old son LOVED IT!They still play with it and have a great time. The truck makes great noises - there IS an on/off button. The cars fit perfectly inside or on top of the truck. They're easy for little hands to manipulate! ... Editorial Review

Skarloey #1 is a small, bright-red freight engine. He's a strong, humble worker. Based on the award-winning television series Shining Time Station by the Reverend W. Awdry, the Thomas the Tank train system fulfills the enduring choo-choo train fantasies of all children. Each vehicle has a different name, character, and face. It is wooden and 2 inches high with black plastic wheels. The magnetic bumpers at both ends of each engine make linkup easy. Children will become friends with each one, developing not only imaginative play but social skills and new motor and cognitive skills as they mature. --Sandy Hirsch ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good addtion to the Thomas collection
My sons are bonkers about Thomas. They want all the trains but you have to be careful. Some trains are introduced on the show and only used once or twice.Others are more visible.

Skarloey is a fantastic train purchase because he is very good looking. The kids love his red coat.He also is smaller, so he is priced right. This is not a $20 train. And, as I mentioned before, the show uses Skarloey enough that your kids will get to see him in the show and on the DVDs.

He of course is not a main character like James, Thomas, Percy or Gordon, but once your kids get those guys, you start to wonder which characters to get next.Skarloey is an awesome choice.

Also, we find the smaller trains that have 3 wheels on each side (rather than 2) hug the tracks best.Skarloey never comes off the track. That makes him more fun to play with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Skarloey doesn't seem old in person
In the stories Skarloey is a older engine whose parts get worn and he has to go to the works. His friend Rhenas is also old but they are both very useful. Just becasue he's old in the stories doesn't mean he has to be old with the wooden railway. A great buy and he's very durable also.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bright Red Engine!
Skarloey is a small red tank engine. He and his friend Rheneas work on a small branch line.Skarloey has six wheels and a happy, smiling face. He's built strong for lots of fun play.Pick up Skarloey for your child. He'll make a fine addition to any Thomas set. ... Read more
