Editorial Review Treasure Planet features the adventures of Jim Hawkins, a spacer from the town of Benbow on the mining planet of Montressor. When Jim discovers a map to the secret Treasure Planet, he and his alien buddy Morph take off in search of "the loot of a thousand worlds." Morph's ability to assume the form of shapes helps Jim battle everything from space pirates to technologically advanced robots, and gets Jim out of some pretty sticky situations. Jim is an amiable young guy running around shooting his way into rooms, caves, and castles with his plasma musket. He has adventures, collects loot, and meets folks, friendly and otherwise, while he's at it. The first level is simple in terms of gameplay and allows the player to quickly get a feel for the controls. Between levels Jim races his high-speed Solar Surfer, and other vehicles, through obstacles against the clock. Later in the game, he takes the helm of a space-bound longboat and pilots a rundown rocket-powered ship. None of this breaks any new ground, but all of it offers fun and varied gameplay. --Mark McDonald Pros:

Editorial Review Electronic Arts continues its hard-hitting hockey series withNHL 2000--a game that skates back to the Sega Genesis roots ofthe franchise for some key elements of gameplay. Serious sports fanscan take advantage of options that set up all the true NHL rules foreach game, but the default settings make it easy for all gamers to hopright in and skate to victory. The skating is silky smooth and the graphics are extremely fast, including a motion-blurred puck during high-speed shots. There'snothing more satisfying than knocking the wind out of another team'slead scorer with the dedicated big-hit button, and the incrediblyresponsive controls make finesse shots possible. Icon passing makessure players get the puck to the correct man, and those who wish toleave nothing to chance can take control of their goalkeepers inmidplay. With the help of Multi-Tap adapters, up to eight people canplay this king of hockey games. --Jeff Young Pros:

Editorial Review The futuristic racing series Wipeout has lost some of its steam with this third entry--but Wipeout 3 is still worth a look and a listen. This fast-action franchise has frequently been characterized as being more about style than substance. While we don't necessarily agree with that analysis, it is true that Wipeout 3 can overwhelm the senses with an amazing amount of eye and ear candy. The graphics are simply stunning, while the techno-charged soundtrack boasts some of the top names in electronica, including Chemical Brothers, Underworld, and Orbital. Pulsating rhythms aside, Wipeout 3 offers players a wild ride through eight distinct tracks. It will take more than perpetual motion to make it to the end of each race. In order to complete each timed race, gamers are required to hit strategically placed power ups while navigating many near-impossible turns. The heart-racing action offers a tough challenge for dedicated games, but Wipeout 3 ultimately does not offer any significant improvement over earlier titles in the acclaimed series. --Brett Atwood Pros:

I have had one copy or another of this game for almost five years. I've probably logged a thousand hours on it easy, as sad as it sounds, and I still can barely hold my own in the top "official" difficulty level, the Rapier class (especially on the harder tracks)... but for whatever reason, that doesn't hack me off like it would on any other game (I'm not a gamer and get frustrated very easily with needlessly difficult games, because I'd rather do other things with my time). I get this game out every six months or so and get hooked all over again, and actually want to find and thank the developers. I've played pretty much every other game in the series, and this one creams them all (it beats the earlier ones due to the graphics and especially analog support, which adds SO much to the game... and they all pretty much destroy Wipeout Fusion). This isn't the best racing game of all time-- it's the best game, period. No other game ever released has this combination of feel, substance, replay value, addictiveness, pure eye candy, and-- yes-- great music (and I hate techno, honestly). I don't understand how it's not a "classic" game, let alone how it's possible that it's so overlooked that you can get a copy for $4 used, let alone that you're not BUYING ONE OF THESE COPIES RIGHT NOW instead of reading this. If you've never played this game, and you're ready for a serious challenge that will endure for the entire life of your PS2 (or PS1!), buy it. Now. Don't even think twice. ... Read more Subjects: 1. You play the role of Rookie 1,and you're sent to inspect the Dreighton Triangle, because many ships have dissapeared there. But then a swarm of Tie Fighters come in and shoot you down. You land on a planet, then you look for a YT-1300 Transport, while blasting StormTroopers all around(there are ground combat missions, too). Pros: Plenty of action. Three dificulty levels(easy, medium, and hard). Ground Combat Missions! Cons: Awful graphics on most of the levels. You can't truely control the ships. They mostly control themselves while you blast the heck out of everything. Having two disks is inconveinient. You have to put disk one in your PlayStation for the game to start, then put disk two in to acsess the later levels,if you've goten to them. Sometimes controling where the crosshairs go is hard using the little arrow buttons. Overall, this is a good game, but it could have been WAY better.

Editorial Review Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup battle some of the vilest villains to ever walk the earth in The Powerpuff Girls: Chemical X-Traction. They need you to help them fight it out in scary arenas such as MoJo JoJo's lair, the Townville city dump, and Fuzzy's shack. But never fear, the Girls have got a lot of cool moves from which to choose, including fire laser eyes, tornado spin, and a chilling ice-breath move. Interactive battle stages provide the extra weapon just when you need it. Think you're doomed? Story and simulator modes keep the battle going so the Powerpuff Girls can dare to fight crime just in time to save the world. ... Read more Reviews (14)
The graphics, presented in an overhead 3D adventure-type view of the battle arena, are fairly good. The intro movie is excellent.Powerpuff Girls fans will especially enjoy seeing the show's intro in 3D animation..Overall, things are nice and colorful and do a good job of creating an atmosphere similar to the show..The sound is also good, although some more soundbytes from the characters or the show would have been nice. The controls are fairly simple, albeit somewhat sluggish. In fact, my first impression with the game was that it was quite slow. However, as you get into the game a little more, the pace seems to be just about right for the gameplay style...Still, it can be a bit tedious at times... As for difficulty and longevity..There are several villains and arenas to unlock by playing through the story mode with each Powerpuff Girl. These can also be unlocked with passwords that can be found online.Normally, the ability to unlock secrets would add to the longevity of the game, but there aren't many villains to defeat, and the game can be finished fairly quickly...I beat this game and unlocked all of the secrets the first night I played it...That's not to say it's easy...it's actually fairly difficult even on "easy" mode, probably to the point that it would frustrate some of the younger fans of the show. However, with so few battles to win, it becomes a matter of persistance rather than skill...fighting each villain over and over until you defeat them. After you beat the game, there's not much point to doing it again. Then it comes down to the simulator mode, a one or two player single battle game that becomes very tedious after about a day.In other words, it's very likely to become one of those games that sits on a shelf indefinitely after playing it for a day or two... Well, the bottom line is that it's fun for a while. It's definitely not an outstanding game.It IS somewhat violent..but those of you complaining about the violence might want to try watching an actual episode of the cartoon..If you're a big fan of the Powerpuff Girls, it's probably worth buying just to dust off every once in a while, watch the intro movie, and play a bit..For anyone else, I'd say it deserves a rental, but you'll find that even the rental period will probably outlast the enjoyment you'll get from the game... ... Editorial Review A long time ago in the inky blackness of space lived the Pipe Planet, a small blue-green planet inhabited solely by small Pipe people. The Pipes went happily about their daily piping just like all the other Pipe people before them. For the Pipe people, life was good. Everyday was spent under the Pipe sun, in the Pipe sea, or on the Pipe beach. However, one evil little Pipe was not happy. She didn't like the Pipe sun, or the Pipe sea, or the Pipe beach, and she definitely didn't like the Pipe people. So begins the story of this whimsical little game, and the beginning of the player's task. Tooled with spanner and pipe, you must piece together a pipeline that directs the relentless flow of flooze down the plug hole. It will take all your strategic skills and pipe-fitting prowess to keep one step ahead of the incessant, seeping sewage. There are 18 continents, each with three levels, to save from the evil flooze. Each continent hosts its own characters and hazards. Power-ups keep you going when the flowing gets tough. ... Read more Reviews (3)
The PSX version is an update with a few gimmicks that actually do help to make the game more challenging. While you are busy building the pipeline to carry the ooze, the gameboard changes to present various challenges. So, while you're working to keep the ooze flowing you're also trying to steer the flow in a particular direction. The problem, though, is that this is all depicted with graphics that are sub-par. Considering that a good rendering shouldn't have been too tough for a game like this, it is surprising how unclear things can be at some points. Another problem is that the bends in the angled pipe pieces are too shallow, sometimes causing you to hesitate while you determine whether the current piece is turning to the left or to the right. Also, when you have placed a piece on the board and determine that you need to change it multiple times, you can't continue to click on the piece again and again to do so -- you instead have to *leave* the piece, then come back to it. This causes unnecessary delay and makes me wonder if it was intentional (to add to the challenge) or just an oversight by the designers. However, once you get used to the look and the controls the game is engrossing and worth the low price. It requires constant attention so playing even 3 or 4 levels can make you ready for a rest. However I can't help but think it was a rush job and could have stood a bit more polish. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review What do the residents of LEGO Island fear most? Deconstruction. The mischievous Brickster has broken out of the town jail and turned loose his army of Brickster Bots to take apart the island brick by little plastic brick. Skateboarding pizza delivery boy Pepper is the island's best hope against this threat, and players will take him through 18 levels based on popular LEGO play themes, such as Adventurers, Castle, and LEGO City. Players will have different ways of getting around the island, like blasting off in a space shuttle or riding on the back of a pterodactyl, all from a first-person perspective. Objectives within the levels include deep-sea diving for bricks, jousting with the Dark Knight, snake shooting, matching mummies in ancient Egypt, and target parachuting. Friendly LEGO figurines are always close by and willing to offer some pithy observations. ... Read more Reviews (7)

She picks up voodo spoons which allow her to cast her own voodo spells on her enemies - like making tourists fall from the sky landing on her enemies. Voodo is the theme here - not good, clean fun for a Christian family. Voodo is the continuous, ever-present source of Lilo's power. Voodo is the religious belief and practice of witch craft. The degree of voodo material in the program is not indicated on the jacket, so you don't know it until you buy it. If Disney is going to sell spiritually questionable material, they probably should develop a rating system if they don't want to spell it out on the package.
