Editorial Review Racers in this game take on the role of Max Axel in their quest for the championship trophy, getting behind the wheel of any of 18 high-tech LEGO cars based on the LEGO Racers construction toy range. A customization feature also allows players to upgrade their vehicles based on performance, with the top-rated drivers earning the best engine, tire, turbo, and aerodynamic upgrades. Drome Racers offers three fun and challenging modes of play: quick race for instant play; arcade for both single race (choose the car and track) and time trial (race against the clock to beat the record lap time); and career for the story-based, multi-challenge league racing. Each multi-challenge race is a set of two to seven stages in different environments, mixing tracks with mountain and canyon backdrops. There is also a two-player, split-screen multiplayer mode. ... First of all the core gameplay. The game has very short, unmemorable tracks, which is really a shame because the graphics are excellent. The cars drive terribly, powerslide around every turn. As for the car selection, the game consists mostly of uninspired import cars, and the occasional viper or corvette. As for the length of this game, it took me roughly 3 hours to beat, which is laughable compared to the 35 hours i have on final fantasy 10, and im still nto even close to done! The longest race is 4 or 5 laps long across a tin race course, really the load times took more than the race time most of the time. As for the replay value, once you beat the game, your done, might as well use this game for kindling in your fire place. Yes, it does feature online game play, butit is terribly uninspired, and just as boring and brief as the offline expierience. So what is the one saving grace of this game? The pretty graphics of course! Through all of the flaws the light of graphics does gleam through on this not so shiny gem. Customizing your car is extremely entertaining, and finding all the perfect tones of paint for your car. There is also a wide array of stickers, and a custom sticker maker. The down side of the sticker maker is that it is no where near user friendly, and a tutorial would have been VERY helpful. In conclusion your money is much better spent elsewhere. This is the kind of title that comes out terrible, then the sequel unexpectedly blows you away, so lets just keep our fingers crossed that if there is an aut modelista 2, they completely overhaul the terrible controls and make the races MUCH longer!
The single coolest thing about this racer is the graphics. It looks great.Really great.Checkout gamespot.com for screenshots to see what it offers. There is a pretty good selection of cars, and the customization capabilities are very deep.Perhaps too deep.It allows you to customize your cars styling through body kits, and any combination of colors, plus various stripe styles, wheels, and decals. Arguably, more focus has been put on customizing your car, and even the garage that it's displayed in, than on the driving experience. And unfortunately, I have yet to discover how to race your customized cars on-line.I mean, isn't that the greater point of such an exercise... to share your creation. The racing experience is... well... Gran Turismo it ain't. It's pretty fun, but don't expect great realism.I guess it kind of goes along with the semi-cartoon-like graphics.More abstract than life-like. Oh yeah, and the biggest annoyance for me, the goofy voice remarks that the annoucer makes, that you apparently can't turn off.Hearing him go "you're amazing!" after a descent turn gets old really quickly. All in all, it's kind of fun, but for a serious racer, I think it's lees likely to keep your attention

Editorial Review In baseball, if a pitcher starts losing control the manager yanks him. Its a smart thing to do because baseball tends to flow in streaks. This is why EA Sports came out to the mound and pulled the ailing Triple Playseries. Never a critical favorite, it was too arcade and not enough simulation. Triple Play just wasn't performing, and fans were beginning to notice what the other baseball sims were doing better (almost everything). So rookie MVP 2003 trots out to the mound for its day in the sun. Its a step in the right direction. MVP looks great. The field, players, and animations are all smooth and realistic looking. Instead of placing the camera directly behind the batter in the default view, theyve gone for a slightly tilted camera that better simulates a batters view of the ball screaming in. The only graphical glitch is that the batting box is too small visually. Curves dont break correctly, change-ups dont drop enough, and this just plain looks weird. However, the mini-diamond that shows the situation (including how much of a lead the opposing team's runners take) is just about perfect. Rather than simply demanding you keep your eye on the ball, MVP has a batting box that predicts where the ball will go. This makes hitting too easy and pitching a bit too hard. A pitcher has too little time to get the ball icon within the strike zone. Other sims do it better. The other problem is with fielding. You have decent control (they avoided World Series Baseballs rookie error) but changing players is neither quick nor easy and the game forces your player to dive when you dont want to. Tossing it back to base isnt as intuitive or smooth as it should be either. Youll get used to it but, again, other games do it much better. MVP is a strong debut but it just isnt a contender for the Hall of Fame.--Andrew S. Bub Pros:

Editorial Review The latest incarnation of NBA Live has a whole slew of new features, like Freestyle Control, which lets you use the right analog stick to express your game with the step-back move, triple-threat moves, pass interceptions, and more. There are significant changes to the rebounding logic so players react in a more realistic manner to missed shots. Over 30 new rebounding animations allow for a wider variety of pulls off the glass. Motion capture was performed with two to four athletes simultaneously and is used for specific contact situations like post moves, pick-and-roll plays, and drawing the charge. Enhanced CPU logic and AI allow for more effective fast breaks, with open players cutting to the hoop for scoring opportunities, and the fine-tuned turbo buttons afford players a wider array of in-game strategies. There are also enhanced dribbling and player movements, player-specific signature moves, and more responsive shot blocking. In addition, real NBA coaches roam the sidelines, and there is dramatic camera coverage of in-game and out-of-play sequences. You will hear what its like to be on the court with all-new player calls, as well as court and arena sound effects. Classic jerseys give gamers a chance to relive their teams glory days in authentic gear. ... Read more Reviews (109)

Editorial Review Sports fans with little interest in video basketball games may want to rethink their stance after getting a look at Sega Sports NBA 2K3. They--not to mention hard-core basketball simulation enthusiasts--will likely find it hard to keep from being drawn in by the games picture-perfect detail, engrossing realism, and challenging gameplay. Like NFL 2K3, NBA 2K3 is presented in the patented ESPN style. The game has all the sights and sounds of the NBA: the pomp and circumstance of pregame introductions, accurate arena re-creations, realistic player animations and sizes, and fluid dribbling and shooting (including crossover moves and the ability to change shot direction in midair). All of this is accentuated with special touches such as alley-oops, tipped shots, the ability to make passes on the fly, fierce rebounding battles under the basket, and the added drama and excitement of the ball bouncing off the rim before it either falls in or goes awry. NBA 2K3 offers a host of moves and modes on either side of the ball, with 25 offensive and 10 defensive plays from which to choose. Throw in fully customizable strategy options--everything from player clutch factor to computer shot tendencies, plus all types of shot percentages and fouls--and its easy to create the ideal matchup and game environment. The limitless roster manager feature also ensures that league and franchise modes will keep from getting stale. Street mode offers a break from the grind of NBA play, allowing you to go two-on-two or all the way up to five-on-five in nine playgrounds and gyms. Pick your favorite players from current teams or choose greats from the '50s through the '80s and go at it as the Ballers vs. the Ringers. Street even features requisite trash talk such as "Yeah! You like that?" and grunts backed with "Get some!" --Larry White Pros:

there is no Lebron James or Carmello Anthony ect. this is from a year ago so it has been updated with new players. The new version (ESPN BasketBall) has almost the same graphics but it also has the new guys and updated teams. The overall gameplay is not great but it is the extra suff (off-season ect.) that makes this game pretty good. It is soooooooooooooo much more realistic tha any of the NBA live games, but they do score less. So the bottom line is if you want a Basket Ball game I would say to look at ESPN Basket Ball first and then think about getting NBA 2K3 if you do not like what you see.
the copy i bought had a couple of bugs, every once in a while the ball would fly off a player 100 feet in the air, and sometimes the game itself would freeze. despite, the game gets five stars, and here's why. -my only real problem, is the ineptitude of post players. the athletic 2's and 3's ( AI, tmac, kobe, stevie franchise) can take over a game while double or triple teaming a post (cwebb, duncan, kg) can take him out of the game. this is only a problem against human opponents, which i guess is realistic when you triple/quadriple team a post player. overall five stars. i have always loved to play this game, and the amount of in-game options allows any player, arcade or sim lover to enjoy it
This game is pretty fun.The biggest thing I like about this game (what sold me on the game) was my ability to play on the Internet. So after I picked this up I told my brother in the next state to pick up a copy as well and we've met online a couple of times to play a quick game. The gameplay across the Internet is pretty good.... though sometimes things will get a bit choppy which is surprising because my brother and I both have high speed Internet connections.I wish they would do this with more games. I like the other playing modes as well... there is even a 2-on-2 street basketball game you can play.I really like this, it is a lot of fun and a great way to put in a quick game with my son. All of the main characters are there and look very realistic. It amazes me how I look more at the players than their numbers to pass to the right guy. Speaking of passing, this can be a bit frustrating at times. It will sometimes not go to the person you want it to go to and the passes look very unrealistic at times. It makes intercepting the ball when playing the computer (and sometimes humans) a little bit easy. Overall, great game.If they make NBA 2K4, I'll be looking forward to it! ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review Prepare for an out-of-this-world, 3-D flying experience with the remake of the arcade classic Defender. Players must defend and protect the human race from an alien invasion as they assume the controls of next-generation combat-ready Defender ships. Battling an onslaught of vicious aliens, players strategically pilot their ships through more than 14 treacherous missions spanning the solar system, executing dynamic tactical maneuvers such as barrel rolls, 360-degree loops, and spinning reversals in order to evade the enemy. ... If you basically want a 3D version of the original Defender arcade game, then this game fits the bill. If you want something that provides new ideas to the genre that isn't already covered in Wing Commander, Colony Wars, Jedi Starfighter, etc... then you are out of luck. It's clear Midway has the technical talent to pull off any game they desire. Now it's a question of whether they can pull of FUN games. In Defender I think Midway was banking on folks who grew up with the original Defender. Unfortunately today's generation of video gamers are too sophisticated for that.

Gameplay - The best I have ever seen.Although on the pro level it is too easy to break big runs, playing on the all-pro level, it feels a lot better.Playing with Ricky Williams, I continously pounded for that 3 yards and cloud of dust.I also loved the feeling when you tire out a defense and watch Ricky explode into the secondary for a 20+ yard run. However, there have been many games were I have just been straight up stuffed. My last game against the Pats got Ricky 23 carries for 67 yards. The passing game takes a little getting used too but it works.I have to admit that Madden's passing mechanics are a little better. The hook and curl routes were my forte in madden, but they don't seem to work as well in ESPN.As far as defense is concerned, the DBs come to play.Playing with the fins, I loved playing bump and run because Madison and Surtain just shut recievers down.Sacks and DL moves are more realistic and frequent. And I love watching the tackling animations and the linebacker pursuit is just a beautiful thing. Commentary + Sound + Graphics -All top notch.Even the fans and thier painted faces. Presentation - No one is better then ESPN.You can freakin watch NFL Primetime for Christ's sake.Primetime is my all time favorite show and to be able to watch it in May brought tears to my eyes. And I love the halftime show, Chris Berman rocks!!!!!!!The Crib is cool to. Few negatives - Franchise mode - Not as deep as Madden but it will suffice.I love being able to break alltime records in Madden as hard as it was.I also liked being able to see carrer stats.Although, ESPN does keep track of carrer stats of players, you are only lucky to see them in a game. Also the salary cap is really annoying. In Madden if I have 7 million left in the cap room, don't take 3 million away if I sign Antonio Bryant for a 5yr 3 million dollar contract. I hope ESPN makes the leaps and bounds Madden made with the Franchise mode, because if they do, Madden is going to be in hot water. If ESPN develops the franchise mode where you can track individual players carrer stats and make it as deep as maddens, then ESPN will have created the ultimate football experiance. But I do have two wishes: 1. Harder Hits - I want to punish recievers with Rodney Harrison for running routes through the middle. 2. Mel Kipper - I want him to analyze some of the rookies.Put a face on some of these rookies so I don't feel like I am drafting a name.

Editorial Review NCAA March Madness 2003 features an authentic college basketball atmosphere, with fully animated 3-D crowds, 49 mascots, 120 fight songs, and more than 300 crowd chants from 162 schools in 15 conferences. Pull off what you want, when you want it, all with unprecedented two-handed control. Then turn up the heat on D with one of eight full- and half-court, man-to-man or zone defenses.
