5-0 out of 5 stars A gift that keeps on giving...
We bought this for our youngest son last Christmas. He is now 2 1/2 years old and still plays with it almost every day.It is very well made, and very reasonably priced. In the beginning, we had to sit with our son to show him how to put the train back together, but now he's a pro. This is a toy we'll be pulling out for a grandchildren in the years to come, as long as he doesn't feed any of the blocks to our dog!!I highly recommend this toy; it gets more "play time" than our leappad, lego table or Vtech toys.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ours fell apart
The entire stacking train fell apart within a month of arriving in our household. My children are not rough on toys, but the wheels came off the train with normal use. My mother threw out the packagaing before we ever saw it, so I have no idea how the train is supposed to fit together (we guestimated) but even so, once the wheels were off, my children were not interested. I have a three-year-old who loves puzzles and is very proficient at them, which would seem to make her the ideal recipient of this toy. She didn't enjoy it, however. The concept behind the toy is okay, however, and if the wheels had stayed on, maybe the kids might have warmed up to it eventually.

3-0 out of 5 stars Save the picture!
Well we just got rid of the first set I bought at Big Lots when my son got a second set for his birthday. He seems to more into now than last Christmas and I saved the picture that came with it so that *I* can remember how it goes together.I think it's a little frustrating because the pieces HAVE to go just *SO* to make it fit properly. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as prior model
We ordered the prior model of this wagon before Christmas when it had steel wheels. It arrived damaged in shipping and now is no longer available. Now the wheels are plastic.Plastic doesn't last.If you're selling something as a "classic", then it should be made the same way.

4-0 out of 5 stars great gift
I bought 2, one for each of my grandsons but turned out to be a useful family gift.Easy to assemble and was much larger than I expected for the price. My daughters haul my grandkids, can easily fit 2 per wagon, to the park or my house.Kids are too young to do more than enjoy the rides for now but wagons are so well built I expect they will still be around when kids are old enough to play with them as well as in them. Big negative shocker was the mailing charges. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Assigned to the Farquhar Quarry Co., Ltd., Mavis is one of the hardest-working engines on the Thomas Wooden Railway System. Still, by her smile and bright eyes, we can tell that this six-wheeled, 3.25-inch-long worker bears her burdens cheerfully. Made of sturdy wood and plastic, black-and-white Mavis is part of a whole creative system of train-car characters, wooden tracks, and scenery based on the popular Thomas the Tank Engine book, television, and video series. She attaches to other cars via heavy-duty magnets. Like all Thomas Wooden Railway parts, Mavis carries a lifetime warranty. --Joan DeClaire ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun, but shows wear early
My boys love Thomas and all his friends (and I like that Mavis is a lady engine but is really tough).Mavis gets played with often and in general she is, as most all of the Thomas line, durable. However, her black paint seems to chip off more easily along her edges than with the other engines - could be it just shows up more because of the color.I say it shows that she is loved when my sons ask why her paint is chipping, but you might warn your kids to be extra careful with Mavis.Otherwise, she's a lot of fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mavis has changed since my day
I was just looking at my 8 year old Mavis and I relized it only has four wheels. The one in the picture has 6 wheels. Of course Salty in the picture has eight wheels and our Salty has six but that made me wonder. Because of Mavis's sideplates she doesn't run very well but my little sister loves her anyway. I wish they'd make the magnets like the take along Thomas magnets that u can connect both ways but I guess we can't have everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the few Female Engines
Mavis is a diesel engine that works in the Sodor quarry. She sometimes is too independent for her own good.Mavis has sleek black paint, a cowcatcher, and buffers around her wheels. Her smiling face will be sure to brighten up your child's playtime.Choose Mavis or any of the fun Thomas products. They're great! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cry Stopper!
My daughter is almost 4 months and just now is starting to get over cholic. This toy did and still does wonders for her.She doesn't quite understand what it is yet, but it makes noise and it seems to soothe her especially when she is going through a crying fit.The loud noise that the roller makes is usually what gets her to stop crying. It is a little hard to move, I don't anticipate her ever being able to move it.But the buttons with the different sounds are nice...she is already starting to mimic the words.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed parent, but son likes it
As a parent I was disappointed in this product. The bow and the roller are very hard to use, my son can't do much with them.He does enjoy pressing the buttons, but that's about all there is to this product. You press a button and it plays a short little tune and says "Cello", "Harp" or "Violin" depending which you press.I'm not sure there's a whole lot of educational value in that.I also find the volume a bit too loud.My 13 month old does like it though, and it's easy for him to hold.

2-0 out of 5 stars BIGDISAPPOINTMENT!
I bought this toy based on the reviews on this site, which were largely glowing.I was very disappointed in the product.Like so many toys for toddlers, it's almost impossible for a toddler to actually use.My 14 month old daughter can push the music buttons, but the "bow" is almost too hard for *me* to move across the "strings" and it's *way* too hard for her little hands. The roller at the bottom is also much too hard to move, which makes these features a complete waste. With so many musical products to choose from I would strongly recommend that parents skip this one and spend their money on something else. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not a Great Toy
My son, now 9 months, received this toy for Christmas. It has proven to be a disappointment. Some of the pads/buttons do not work and the toy is not stable. The tower is easily knocked over and, when knocked over, comes apart into 5 different pieces. Don't waste your money on this toy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk
This is a flimsy, plastic piece of junk that is most certainly not worth $35.The tower comes apart too easily.Don't waste your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - doesn't compare to older models
We have 2 Ball Party sets from 4 yrs ago and my 5-yr-old still likes to play with them.We got Symphony for our 1-yr-old thinking it would expand our set of interchangeable, build-it-your-way Ball Party parts.Big disappointment! They have made the balls and tunnels larger, so the new set doesn't fit with the old.You can only build the Symphony tower one way, so it is no longer a construction toy.My 1-yr-old does like to drop the balls and watch them go down, but why pay $35 for a toy that only does that??And it has an annoying feature that the sound keeps coming back on after the child has crawled away, forcing the grown-ups to hop up and turn it off.Look around for the non-battery-powered older sets, or get a pound-the-ball toy instead for less than half the price. ... You can tell from Toby's serious expression that he means to get the job done--well. He is a small freight engine but also pulls local commuter cars. He is dark brown, with a gray bumper and skirt. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and long-lasting
When my son, a Thomas fan since age 1.5, asks for a toy it is always an engine from the Thomas series.Toby is one of his favorite.Toby is a tram engine, one of the most good natured engines in the Thomas stories. While the toy does not have any interactive and fancy features, it gives my son the opportunity to relive his favorite Thomas stories.

For that reason, Toby and any of the other engines make excellent gifts to any 2+ year old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Tram Engine
Toby is a tram engine. There are a lot stories about him, like Toby sadly retired until one day Sir Tophem Hatt found that he is a very usefulengine; Toby helped Mavis the little diesel out of trouble; Toby and Percytogether made a kind joke at Thomas about the ghost train; etc. There isalso a beautiful song about him. My three little children like him becausehe is very special. They often fight for the ownership. I wonder if Ishould buy two more of this. I do have five Thomas engines. But they stillfight for the different facial expression. good toys! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best for the price
I bought this for my three-year-old son for Christmas, and before he had even played with it for two minutes, the cab with the crane part was broken at the point where it snaps on to the flatbed. For $55, I feel this is a cheaply made product. The plastic is flimsy and the parts are not durable. However, he does like it, although it is frustrating for him to have to constantly try to put the cab and crane back on the flatbed portion. I would not recommend this product because there are so many more well made trucks and machines out there for 1/2 the price or less./

5-0 out of 5 stars Pricey for a Plastic Toy
My son got this as a Christmas present and absolutely loves the truck. The only "issue" I had with the toy was that it was all Plastic for toy with so high a price tag.His Tonka trucks are 1/2 the price and are metal. He soes love it and plays with it often.

3-0 out of 5 stars a mixed bag
my kids begged for a logging truck after watching the "House Construction Ahead" video that includes footage of cool logging machines. Our Brio garbage truck has been so durable (they RIDE the thing, for heavens sake) that I figured this would be bomber as well. However, the pick-up claw broke after 10 minutes (on christmas morning, ouch). The company cheerfully replaced the broken piece, but that also broke after a couple days. The claw was never easy for little hands to manipulate - sized more for a grown-up and causing much toddler frustration - so I never bothered replacing it again. But the rest of the truck keeps going and going. My kids are now nearly 40 pounds and they have ridden it with their full weight daily for nearly a year now. I think its indestructible. What a shame that they put such a junky claw piece on an otherwise sturdy toy ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrence the Tractor - great little guy
Terrence is probably not made for the track - since he is a tractor and is meant to be used in fields, or for plowing snow. That said, this little guy goes about everywhere in our house and we haven't had any trouble with the tire treads. If your child is prone to pick at such things like mine is, just to see if he can get them off, then I suggest maybe advising otherwise. My little one figured out how to get them off very quickly, but became aggravated that they were not on when he was "plowing the field."So, I put them back on and well, they haven't come off since.

Some neat role playing occurs with Terrence. He just opens new doors for working outside of the track and especially with all the new construction guys that have been introduced lately like Alfie and Jack.Terrence has a lot of fun in our house and he comes highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Terrence!
My son is a huge fan of the Thomas & Friends diecast trains and building sets.Despite the fact he had amassed a large portion of these toys, an important character was missing from his collection: Terrence the Tractor.Of course, he was thrilled when this little vehicle showed up in his Easter basket.

No, Terrence is not a train, but one of the tractors that plows the fields on the Island of Sodor.Terrence is a wonderful character, with his bright orange coat of paint and happy face.He has one magnet on his back end, perfect for pulling trains (or having trains pull him).In all honesty, we have not had any problems with Terrence's treads coming off--they are designed to wrap tightly around the wheels when rolling, so no matter how hard my three-year-old tugs on them, they stay put.Terrence is also a very durable toy--my son has dropped him, stepped on him, ran him into the other trains, and Terrence shows no signs of wear, tear, split wood, or chipped paint. Finally, Terrence is small enough to fit easily in my son's hands during play, but can also be slipped into a coat pocket during a car trip.

All in all, Terrence is a terrific vehicle, and a perfect addition to a child's Thomas & Friends collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars He is not a train, he's a tractor

This car carrier is quite small 11" long 5" high-the photo looks like a much larger item.I paid $24.99 for the product-and at most I would pay is $10.00.Because the item is surely not worth the money that I paid, I have to pay to ship it back so I have to absorb these cost.I lost $3.99 by ordering this, the company should be ashamed of the price they are asking.

Skarloey is a fantastic train purchase because he is very good looking. The kids love his red coat.He also is smaller, so he is priced right. This is not a $20 train. And, as I mentioned before, the show uses Skarloey enough that your kids will get to see him in the show and on the DVDs.

He of course is not a main character like James, Thomas, Percy or Gordon, but once your kids get those guys, you start to wonder which characters to get next.Skarloey is an awesome choice.

Also, we find the smaller trains that have 3 wheels on each side (rather than 2) hug the tracks best.Skarloey never comes off the track. That makes him more fun to play with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Skarloey doesn't seem old in person
In the stories Skarloey is a older engine whose parts get worn and he has to go to the works. His friend Rhenas is also old but they are both very useful. Just becasue he's old in the stories doesn't mean he has to be old with the wooden railway. A great buy and he's very durable also.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bright Red Engine!
Skarloey is a small red tank engine. He and his friend Rheneas work on a small branch line.Skarloey has six wheels and a happy, smiling face. He's built strong for lots of fun play.Pick up Skarloey for your child. He'll make a fine addition to any Thomas set. ... Read more
