Honk! Honk! It's gridlock and the little red car can't move. The player is a traffic cop in the Rush Hour Traffic Jam Puzzle wherethe objective is to get the red car off the road. To play, pick one of40 challenge cards; solutions are printed on the back of each card. Then set up the cars and buses in a specified pattern on the6-inch-square road grid. Move the vehicles one by one (obey those trafficlaws!) until the red car can escape the traffic jam. There are fourlevels of difficulty. Kids can alternate turns with another player orjust "play in traffic" alone. The game from Binary Arts received anational award from Mensa and is used in elementary school mathclasses. The design includes clear instructions printed on the sturdybox, which can be used both as a playing tray and for storage. The gamecards stow away in a drawer in the road grid. This is a 1999 Parents'Choice recommended toy. --Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent intelligent game for all ages !!
Games has a simple objective -- get the Red car out of traffice. And boy! it is difficult and changelling at higher level. Set up the *cars* as described in cards and figure out a way to get the Red Car out.The best thing is complexity raange from very easy to very hard. So it captures kids interests and provides the extra incentive to move to the next level !!

Simple rules -- once you have placed the cars on the Grid, you can only move them forward or backward.

A great addition to this game is "Rush Hour 2, 3 and 4 Gift Pack" for less than $12/-. Each set has 40 cards or in total 120 different levels. The highest level is really really difficult. Meant for the "Pros" only !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game!!
I first encountered this game at a friends house while I was house-sitting, and I tell you...without it, I think I would have lost mt mind!It is basic yet challenging all at the same time...and it really is for all ages!Since I bought it off amazon.com, my niece and my father-in-law have both enjoyed the thrill of playing Rush Hour.I would strongly recommend this game for anyone who thinks they would be too good for this game...cause they won't be!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun and awesome game!!!
My husband and I gave this game to our daughter for Christmas. When she first unwrapped the present she looked uninterested. Later that day she pulled it out and asked what it was about. We got it out and tried it out. Instantly she was hooked as was I. This game is really a great game, but it is also a wonderful educational product. It truly teaches thinking skills and as a homeschool parent I can truly appreciate that. I highly recommend this for anyone regardless of where or how your children are schooled!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent motivator and great fun
As a child I used to play with K'nex a lot. I just dug up an old model I built to hold my poker chips today that I'd made years ago, and I decided to look around for the biggest set I could find.

As a college student now, I can see the value of playing with the K'nex set as a kid: creativity, problem-solving, even common sense about the laws of physics (big stuff that falls down tends to go boom, for example), all have been boosted thanks to this toy, I think. It's no wonder I'm able to learn new techniques and ideas so quickly now (as opposed to some of my friends).

All you have to do is show your child how to connect the pieces in different ways, plop a models book in front of them, and let them have at it with your encouragement. Just don't let them put anything in their mouth: some of the pieces are less than an inch long.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT simple toy
I bought a 22 piece set of these for my 5 1/2 yr old daughter. She played with those 22 pieces for over an hour just ditting there.

I can't say enough...they are easy to clean up since they are magnetic. The only things I'd say as a caution are that the metal balls hurt if they stray away and you step on them so keep it contained.

5-0 out of 5 stars My sons favorite toy!
I have a 6 year son that was bored with legos and licoln logs, but loved to try and build things. So, we got him this set for Christmas. He loves it! You are not limited to what shapes you can make with the other building sets. he will go to his room and build things himself from looking at the directions. Since christmas we have bought him a few of the smaller sets to go along with this set. My husband and I like to play with it to. I would recommend knex to everyone! They are worth evey penny! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Puzzle for Little Ones
My 28 month old son got this puzzle for Christmas and loves it.He put it together the first time out of the box himself. It is the first thing he does every morning and then several times a day.My almost 5 year old likes it too. It is not as sturdy as the Melissa & Doug floor puzzles, but it still really sturdy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice picture making for an easier puzzle
My 2 year old daughter has this puzzle and thinks its wonderful.

Unlike many puzzles, with just one character on it, the picture is brilliant having lots of different trains, etc on it.It is easy to fit togehter, with parts of a different character or scene on every piece. She can easily put Thomas, the sheds, Harold, etc together thus eventually making the whole puzzle.

This is by far her favourite puzzle. For one, it's Thomas! And for 2, it's well-made and 'easy' to work out how to put together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Beloved Toy
My son who just turned 4 years old in December received this for Christmas.I'm amazed at the beauty and durability of the pieces. He put it together about three times (with help) the first time we opened it!I never seen him so excited about a toy and to my greater surprise--a puzzle! Each time he placed a new piece in (sometimes with my assistance and sometimes not), he'd ask me to turn around and then ask me to look. When I looked I praised him for his accomplishment and he squealed with excitement. He literally jumped up and down almost after each piece was placed! He told me this was his favorite gift for Christmas and believe me he had quite a few more that were more expensive.I'll be buying more Thomas puzzles from this company in the near future as I'm very impressed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kid-approved "sneaky education"
This puzzle is my 2 1/2 year old son's absolute favorite. He does it on his own, and is starting to know the state names. He will do it over and over and over again, and thinks it's great fun.I think it's a great way to help him learn! It's kind of nice when a learning tool has to be pried out of my child's hands....

If I had one complaint, it would be that Alaska is on the bottom left corner of the puzzle; it would have been nice if they'd made the puzzle larger so they could stick Alaska in roughly the right place. Not a big deal, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT educational toy!
My 3 year old son spotted this puzzle while we went browsing in the store. He wanted it SO badly even though it was rated for older children.Within 3 days of playing with this puzzle, he quickly mastered all 50 states, knew exactly where they all go at a moment's notice. Then in a few days, he is able to clearly identify and pronounce each state accurately. He can read a little bit, and I had to show him North and South so he could place the Dakotas in their places. We had moved to Arizona from California a few months earlier, so he understood that his "small house" was in CA and that we now live in AZ.Two weeks after playing this puzzle, we went to California to visit our old friends and favorite places.Upon returning home, he demonstrated he really understood the map even more and even knows Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean and several cities. Because he has 2 other USA maps, he has said several times that "Michigan is a mistake! They forgot to cut out Upper Peninsula (Upper Michigann)"!!!!I was originally from Michigan and know that Michigan has 2 parts. What I'd like to see in this puzzle is 50 individual pieces, even though they may be small and that their cutouts reflect more accurate shapes (maybe make the states a bit bigger!).My parents still have the wooden puzzle from late 1960's with all 50 pieces. Now, where can I find wooden maps of other places:Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia, showing pictures of the countries, along with capital cities and other information? My son is already learning a few countries in Europe and is so eager and so ready to absorb more information in geography! We play the USA map puzzle practically every evening before he goes to bed! He's already map-literate far ahead of his peers and even amazed his summer camp teacher!Who says a 3 year old can't learn geography?!;-)

4-0 out of 5 stars A good start
I would have liked more information to be included on the puzzle. Each piece is cut out in the shape of the state and has the state capital printed underneath.I think they could have taken this a step further adding key information about that state such as it's nickname, state flower or other educational information. It is a good way to get very young children to learn their state capitals and the shape and geography of the U.S. ... Editorial Review

Even if you've been living on Mars since the 1970s, you've probably heard of Rubik's Cube, the bestselling puzzle in history. Just in case, though, here's a recap: it's a 3-by-3-by-3-inch cube with rotating faces made up of nine squares that can be scrambled into (so it's said) 43 quintillion combinations. Getting the cube back to its original position (so that all nine squares of the same color make up each face) is incredibly challenging for most, though it can be mastered and solved. For those not gifted with superhuman spatial intuition, this mindbender comes with a solution hints booklet, which examines the cube's properties and offers clues for solving the puzzle. Whether it's a difficult toy or retro '80s kitsch you're seeking, Rubik's Cube is for you. --Rob Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome!
The rubik's cube is so much fun!at first, i couldn't solve it at all, though i could get the first side.i used the hints and strategies until i memorized them, and now i can solve the cube in little over 5 minutes!it drives my friends insane because none of them can do it ^o^.
I really suggest that you buy this puzzle, as it can keep you entertained no matter how many times you solve it.also, DO NOT peel off the stickers to fix it!!!!!this kid in my class did it to my first cube, and then it was impossible to solve.and it looked really bad, so i tossed it.it's ok to switch the stickers if you do it for the ENTIRE cube, so it's fixed, but it takes a long time, and it's obvious that you cheated.

P.S.buy a cube with instructions if you need them!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Blast from the Past!
I purchased this toy for my daughter for Christmas. She however did not like it.But I did!It took me back to when I was in school and the Rubik's Cube was most played puzzle game.

It's definitely a game that teaches patience, logical and critical thinking skills to try to solve the puzzle of putting the game back together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frustration, Cubed
Ah---at long last, we have the Rubik's Cube in our hot little hands: a scaled representation of the original Lament Configuration, engineered by the mad 18th century French toymaker Phillipe Le Merchant for a jaded aristocrat bored by power and opulence and fever-drunk on the writings of the Marquis de Sade. What to do? You merely arrange the sides of the Cube in such a fashion as to unlock the Configuration, consequently tearing open a planar gateway to Hell, at which point the Cenobites, inter-dimensional space-faring demons with an insatiable appetite for the most sordid types of carnage and torture...

Wait. Ummm....sorry, wrong Cube.

At LONG LAST we have the Rubik's Cube in our hot little hands. Developed by more than 100 of America's most prestigious R&D powerhouses, administered by super-secret counterintelligence officers helmed by top Pentagon officials, built in strictest confidence and only under the most scrupulously Top Secret clearance, the very budgetary procedures for its creation concealed from the most senior personnel at Foggy Bottom and even the White House, The Cube is designed for instruction, interrogation, torture, and execution. Introduce the specimen into a series of interlocking Cubical rooms within the construct, each 20 feet on a side with a total displacement of 400 square feet, each face of every sub-cube featuring a hatchway permitting egress into another identical cube. A pre-selected random number of the sub-cubes feature cunning death traps, ranging from acid-blowguns to area-effect mesh-wire guillotines, providing hours of amusement and poltical re-education for those unlucky enough to...

Oh. Ummm---sorry, still the wrong cube.

What we have here, folks, to our eternal despair, is the RUBIK's CUBE, clearly a device introduce in the eighties from the Soviet-dominated Warsaw Pact with the express intent of destroying America and her Allies in the decades-long fight against Communism. How many hours did this fiendish Engine of Death wrest from my young life in the eighties, taunting me, teasing me, shaming me for my inability to restore the colors---Yellow, Green, Red, Blue, White, and Orange---to their original sides, all in unity, unanimity, Soviet conformity. Three rows and three columns per side: 54 cubes of filth, of ignominy, of humilation. 54 cubic means by which to reduce us to Soviet satrapy!

The Rubik's Cube is 1984, writ small: it is totalitarian Communism.

All those smirking kids you knew in high school who could solve this infernal engine of destruction in a minute? Soviet KGB plants! Each had been mailed a detailed instruction booklet (in Russian, English, and Esperanto) on how to solve the vile thing weeks, if not months before it was unveiled to a slumbering West.

Be warned: the Rubik's Cube is highly addictive and ultimately serves as a soggy, uber-spiked Cat-O-Nine-Tails on your ego and self-esteem. It was made with the express intention of destroying the West and bringing down global capitalism by humiliating the West's greatest minds. My final point: this infernal engine of destruction was developed in Hungary by a mathematics/spacialist genius who never realized one dollar of profit from his insanely popular creation.

I rest my case. You were warned.

The aMAZEing Labyrinth uses a clever board design to create aseries of ever-changing mazes that one to four players must movethrough. The object of the game is for each player to collect asquickly as possible all seven treasures depicted on their individualtreasure cards. To add to the challenge, players know what the nexttreasure is only after they find the one before it. Before each turn, amaze card is pushed into the maze in a strategic place, helping theplayer make his or her way to the prize. This means that the entiremaze shifts and changes on each turn, confounding some and helpingothers. Players will need to think ahead to choose just the right spotto shift the maze in their favor. This is an excellent game to get lostin. A simpler version can be played by younger children. --LeeStrucker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Mazing
This strategy game is one of the best birthday presents my children ever got. You can play once or several times, and never grow tired of the game, as each set of mazes is different than the last.

Playing is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon or evening with your children. The game requires non-verbal skill and logic, but is fun as heck. Very often, the children do better than the grown-ups.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good game
We love this game.It makes you think, so it keeps us all interested. This is one of the few games that we all enjoy playing together because it is challenging enough for our overachieving 8-year old, and also interesting for our 6-year old.It is difficult to find games that do all that these days, because the 6-year old is refusing to learn how to read well enough to be able to enjoy "older kid" games, and we have all become bored with the "little kid" games. This game requires no reading, which (obviously) is a plus for us right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Family Fun
Our family really likes this game.It is a great strategy game. You have to think ahead and try to plan moves to help yourself but not others. It really keeps you thinking and the kids love it when they make a move that really messes up Mom or Dad.It is not so hard however, that a younger child of 8 or 9 would get frustrated. ... Nine year old daughter wanted a magic kit, so I purchased this one. The kit has a lot of amusing tricks and a great amount of items for the money. The items are well made and hold up to a lot of abuse, after seeing it I would think this kit would cost a lot more. Some of the tricks are silly, but some are actually very good. All the tricks are easy to understand and perform. My daughter has even done several tricks for her class at school. She has been thrilled with it and I have been very pleased. I would recommend this kit to anyone. Hope this review helps. ... Read more

This is a strategy game with a twist--if you lose, you'relunch. You've taken your trusty Safari Rover deep into the bush; nowmaneuver it through the maze of hungry animals and get back to camp inone piece. I knew this game at a friend's house and love it even I was 30 already at that time.I bought several when I went back to visit my family and they all love it.When I told my mom that I would give my brother's 1st grad boy a set, she told me he won't like it since he doesn't like the brain games. But he loves it soon after my sister explain to him the rules and he enjoys to do it.My little one, almost 23 months old now, likes those animals and loves to put all of those animals to the board one by one and kind of learn the size and arrange the place. It's not only for 8 and up.

My son is rough on his things and he loves puzzles. Most of his puzzles don't last long, but his Ravensburger puzzles are holding up very well to his abuse! They are very sturdy and do not peel or bend easily and they aren't full of that puzzle dust when you open them. The pictures on Ravensburger puzzles are top quality and beautiful. We absolutely love this Noah's Ark puzzle.60 pieces is perfect for my four-year-old at this point. The pieces are a great size for his little hands. Also, I would like to note that the Ravensburger 100 piece puzzles are better than many others for younger kids because they design the pieces larger and sturdier than many other brands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent "intelligent" game for all ages !!

Each set has 40 cards or in total 120 different combinations are possible. The highest level is really really difficult. Meant for the "Pros" only !!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars very disapointed
i bought this thinking it was going to be really cool, but it was very boring and stupid.it contains 3 puzzles all of which a 5 yr old can do and the games are the most stupid games ever.the one with the spinner only shows the objects on the puzzle move smaller as you look at it.thats the whole thing.your pupil is just going back to its smaller, regular size and it makes the picture look like it's getting smaller.and the one with the magic cards is rediculous.anyone can see that all you have to do is choose the cards that you can see the character you chose through.very disapointing.i wish i could have seen the box before i bought it.then i would have seen just how lame this was.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and entertaining puzzles
These puzzles are fun.I especially like the fact that they are double sided puzzle (two puzzles in one). You get a lot for your money. If you like Harry Potter, you will love these. Each puzzle has a great scene on it.Perfect for any fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit confused
I tried playing with this game, but I couldn't figure out how to get the spiral game to work. That is the only one I have tried sp far and I've only been trying for about a half hour, but it gave me a head ache, so i gave up. But other than that, the game was a ton of fun and is sure to keep me busy for a long time. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Its good for beginners, but NOT FOR SPEED-CUBING!!!
I think this specific Rubik's Cube is good, but I don't reccommend it for speed-cubing. Sometimes the faces are hard to turn, and the stickers aren't of best quality, but it is good for beginners. I have one of these, but when I become good at cubing I will buy a better-quality one that is made for speed. Also, do not buy the imitation cubes (such as ones you can get from the Flea Market), because they are bad quality.

If you are not going to dedicate your time to learning the algorithms (sequences) needed to solve this, I do not reccommend to buy ANY Rubik's Cube, because you will become very frustrated in a short period of time, and probably end up cheating to solve it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Toy!
I have two of these at home.At Christmas time, my sister and her family stayed with us.They have two very active boys who usually drive me nuts. This year I brought out my Rubik's snakes. They spent hours playing with these things.Made all the shapes in the book, and invented several new ones. This is a great toy for the hyperactive child.I highly recommend this for adults too.

1-0 out of 5 stars I am sorry I bought this game
My grandson is 11 and he just isn't interested in this game.I bought both of the River Crossing games, for Christmas, and he hasn't even looked at the second one.

5-0 out of 5 stars River Crossing Is VERY Addicting!
I received this game for Christmas, and I hadn't even asked for it.I absolutely LOVE it.

The game consists of the main puzzle tray, plastic stumps, a little magnetic man, 5 magnetic plastic boards of different sizes, 40 puzzle cards (ranging in difficulty), and a carrying bag to store everything (which comes in handy!).

This game really gets you thinking, and you actually find yourself thinking AHEAD by many moves. The object of the game is to get the little man from one side of the river, to the other. You do so, by moving planks from stump to stump.Sometimes you have to drop a plank off at a convenient location, just to pick it up later on when you need it.

I started playing it and couldn't stop!Once you start getting the hang of it, you find yourself wanting to continue as you figure out the easier puzzles.I must say, that as they become more difficult, you REALLY need to think ahead by looking at the pieces you need towards the "end" of the crossing.Don't drag boards that you don't need (and DON'T drop them in places that hinder your crossing!).

I definitely recommend this game for people who enjoy puzzles, or games in general. The harder puzzles may be too difficult for a younger child to enjoy, and they may get bored with it.ALSO- there are MANY small parts that could be a choking hazard for small children.Make sure you keep the parts in the bag, and keep it out of reach!

5-0 out of 5 stars River Crossing - Another hit from ThinkFun!
ThinkFun succeeds once again, with a simple idea... lay down logs to find a path from start to finish across the river.Place your logs carefully, and you'll get where you need to go, but don't get in your own way, and you can't jump over the water.40 challanges included (plus 40 more in River Crossing 2!), that will keep even adults busy for quite a while.

Highly recommended for those visual / spatial gifted kids, and thier parents ;-)Stores in it's own nylon bag, a plus, since there are more than a few loose pieces.
