Editorial Review

Bringing a new look to the classic peg solitaire game, here comes Hoppers. Since peg solitaire is a jumping game, what could be more natural than designing the pegs to resemble frogs? Players choose their preferred level of difficulty (from beginner to expert) and select one of the 40 cards included with the game. Following the diagram on the card, 4 to 12 frogs are placed on the game board lily pads. Then it's time to get hopping. Frogs leap over each other until there's only one left on the board. The beginner setups will be easy enough for most players to master quickly. The expert setups will take a lot of cogitation and some false starts before they're solved. If players have jumped and jumped and are still stumped, each card has the solution on the back. When play is done, frogs and playing cards can be tucked away in the nifty storage compartment beneath the game board.--Wendy Slotboom ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FUN WAY TO MASSAGE YOUR BRAIN!
This is a great toy to develop your child's strategic thinking. The game is relatively simple. Organize your frogs as per the cards, jump one frog over the other and remove the jumped-over frog. The objective is to leave just one frog. You can only jump `adjacent' frogs along the lines (see picture).

The recommended age is 8 but younger children (supervised!) are just as enthralled. I had to improvise on the instructions, but I've taught the concepts to two 3 year olds - my buddy's son and my own. You will be amazed that they get it!

It is the greatest travel game. My son got this when he was 3 years old, and 4 years later it is still his first choice when we ask him to pick some toys for a trip........and he has a GameBoy!!

It is very durable, constructed very well and has seen no wear in 4 years of regular use. This is one of the toys that'll, literally, last you a life-time.

This is definitely a precursor for any parent looking to teach their kids Chess. Solving each situation requires you to think a few steps ahead.

This is probably the least expensive way to develop a new dimension in your child's brain.

VARIATIONS:
This toy also comes with a single "Red Frog". The objective is to leave the red frog standing.

OTHER SIMILAR TOYS:
FlipIT - This toy made by the same company, is a more difficult version of Hoppers. It is a 4X4 grid with Turtles instead of Frogs. The turtles can be placed on their bellies (green side up) or can be turned-turtle (orange side up).
One jumps over the turtles but the turtles do not come off the board - they just flip over. They flip over each time they're jumped over - green to orange and orange to green. The objective is to turn all turtles the right (green) side up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hop Hop Hop
Another fun game for those who can't read or who can't read English. The youngest likes to put the pegs in. It is good practice setting up the games from the cards. The little frogs can get lost, but the neat box the game makes into helps with that. And, you don't need all the frogs to play most of the set ups.

5-0 out of 5 stars I had a Hoppin' good time!
My friend got Hoppers as a birthday present and we all played it.It was really fun and it got more challenging as we went on.What you do is: You pick a card and place the frogs on the pgs of what the picture shows on the card. Then you take one frog and jump it over one.The one that it jumped over, take it off the peg.The object it to have 1 frog remaining. It is very educational because you have to think when you play it.It is very durable because there is a pull out drawer under it that you store the frogs and the cards in.It's a great game that you can play in the car, especially for long vacations.Hoppers is hours of fun for everyone! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love games and this one is fantastic for the kids!
Forgive me for using a corny opening line: my kids love to be at their Wit's End - ha, ha, ha. I am thrilled to see them (ages 8, 9 and 12) playing something educational for a change!! The Teaser questions are rhyming riddles children try to solve and are probably loved the most, judging by the loud claps and cheers. The other question types are also crowd pleasers, with cutesy names like Dictionary Detectives, Animal Crackers, Word Whiz, etc... you get the picture. Fun stuff indeed...it makes you wish you had something like this when you were growing up!

2-0 out of 5 stars Wit's End's witis REALLY ending!
This is the worst game ever! I am twelve and it really doesn't appeal to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Skills Based Game for Children
I bought this game for my son and daughter, ages 8 and 11.The game was advertised by the Parents' Choice Foundation as an award winner and I thought I might give it a try.The best thing about this game is that questions are specially designed for different age groups. My 8 year old son would answer questions designed for 8 year-olds on the Yellow Side of the question card. And my 11 year-old daughter would answer questions designed for her age group on the Blue Side of the card. The questions are fantastic and a lot of fun for the kids.Instead of straight yes or no answers the kids are challenged to answer from four skill-based categories:Teasers are by and large Rhymes for Kids to Solve;Odd1Out asks kids to pick which one does not belong;Sequence questions ask Kids to arrange things in sequence by weight, size distance, date etc.;and the Wild Card category requests a bunch of stuff like finding items that begin with certain letters. The game comes with a spinner which determines the category the kids answer when it is their turn.I even enjoyed participating in this game...can you remember information from your 3rd grade class --it is very challenging for adults in that way.The kids loved the very fun questions. We all learnt a lot while having a blast playing. My children and I highly recommend this game. ... Editorial Review

Building roads, railroads, and waterways is the object of thiscooperative picture-matching game. The 2-inch square tiles haveillustrations of the above printed on one side with some railroadstations and harbors, too. Each player draws 10 tiles and sets aboutmatching river to river, road to road and rail to rail. The first touse up all their tiles wins. But this nonreading game is really aboutcooperation. The different paths and combinations create so manydifferent possibilities that no two paths are alike. --LynneSampson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most requested game in our household
Even the littlest one (3 years old) loves R, R, & R.He doesn't understand the "game" part, but he loves looking at the pieces, and he has figured out how the matching works.
Treating it more like a puzzle than a turn-based game makes it fun for everybody -- you spend as little or as long on it as you want, and then you come back to it later.
Our household challenge is to use all the pieces in as compact a shape as possible. My husband is obsessed with putting together a perfect rectangle.Hasn't happened yet, but he keeps trying!

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and fun game
This game promotes many educational skills, available to use even with very young children, including matching, visual discrimination, vocabulary building, sequencing and in addition it is a fun game to play turning outdifferent picture representation every time!

4-0 out of 5 stars For puzzle lovers
Ravensburger products are easy to love because of their high quality. These game tiles (like Ravensburger's puzzle pieces) are thick, colorful with great detail, and wipe clean when you spill on them. I enjoy puzzlesand so this is a fun game for me, creating a maze of rivers, roads, andrailways that begin and end at houses, bridges, towns and dams. The gamecan last an overly long time, so my kids don't enjoy it as much. ... Read more

This 84-piece jigsaw puzzle assembles into the 48 contiguous United States, plus Alaska and Hawaii. The pieces are large enough to be safe for curious little ones and make for a fun and truly hands-on lesson in geography. The mapping is detailed enough to highlight major cities and towns, as well as rivers and some topography. To test your smarts, try constructing it without the benefit of a map. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
I had tried to order this last Christmas but it sold so well that it was out of stock!Great price & a great buy,i signed up for the waiting list & finally got it a couple of days ago.Its really hard to find a good map of the US & at a good price. This covers every state, has the major cities marked & the capitols are marked.I had looked at other maps in the store but never bought one because it didnt have the things i was looking for.Plus they were very expensive. This will help our child with learning where all the states are & to know the capitols. We all have to learn them for school & this is a fun way to do it.Also a way for the rest of the family to brush up on this information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every kid should have one of these puzzles!
I don't know how they can sell this so inexpensively, as this puzzle is of very high quality and would be very beneficial to kids of all ages who need to learn more about US geography.I was surprised at how much my nephewenjoyed it, even though he is just six years old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't throw this one away!
When we moved across the country, we decided to garage sale many of our daughter's toys, including this puzzle, which we assumed she had outgrown. As soon as we got to our new address, she demanded the puzzle and wasalarmed to hear that we'd sold it.She has asked about it so often duringthe past year, that it is now clear to us: we need to purchase it again andwill not discard it, even when the day comes for her to go to college! Ittruly helped her become the geography whiz she is now, at age 7!Parentsout there: buy it and keep it! It's an amazing deal and a most educationaltoy. ... Read more

Editorial Review

There are only seven pieces in this puzzle, so it should be easy. Right? Guess again! Sixty puzzle cards show 60 three-dimensional structures for players to replicate using the seven pieces. Each of the pieces, based on three or four connected cubes, is unique. One is an L shape, another a T, and they get more complicated from there. If a player is stumped and can't figure out how to build the Long Wall, the Snake, or the Bad Dog, there are helpful clues on the back of the cards. Players also can use the pieces to invent their own structures. Originally known as the Soma Cube, Block by Block is an excellent way to develop and refine spatial perception skills. Includes drawstring bag for storage. --Wendy Slotboom ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Previous Reivew Misses the Point
I'm afraid that the previous reviewer misses the point about the maze.It is designed to allow the user to shift the walls as they progress through the maze; it is not intended to be a static maze as if on paper.

There are 16 starting configurations listed on the back of the product, and they increase in difficulty as they progress.Early settings require either no or very limited manipulation of the walls to complete. As you go on to more advanced settings, however, you encounter ever-more-complicated mazes that require you to plan ahead to determine whether moving a given wall will help you or hurt you in the long run.

This is a great toy to teach strategic thinking, and is suitable for a variety of ages (some of the more advanced maze configurations are quite challenging).

1-0 out of 5 stars not really "16" ways
I was very disappointed to find that only one setting allows you to get all the way to the end of the maze.Yes, you can change the maze path but then you can only get part of the way to the finish. My kid LOVES mazes but this toy was a bust! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful, fun, educational, and FINALLY magnetic!
This is a great game for the kids, or for you and your kids. It reminds alot of folks of Scrabble in that you have a rack of tiles and have to play them on a board. In Tilez!, you have to pick one of your tiles and place them to match as many color edges as possible on the board. The more edges you match the higher your score. For adults, there's a more restrictive rule - you must match every edge that you play.

This game has 80 tiles, all "L"-shaped, all different, and all magnetic. This is important because when they first published this game a few years back, the tiles were not magnetic and they slid around alot. I'm happy to report that the magnetic tiles work great and they don't slide at all. Even the scoring markers, which also had the sliding problem in the previous edition, are now magnetic. The game also has full-color rules in both English and French.

They also sell a travel edition of this game which is less expensive but the tiles are (obviously) much smaller. The full-size edition is far superior for play at home. ... Read more
