Cute, but doesn't hold interest
My daughter received this for Christmas when she was 2.5 years old.Since she loved puzzles and had recently mastered her alphabet, I thought this was the perfect gift.For some reason, however, this puzzle never held her interest.She has now had it for almost 2 years and in all that time I don't think she has once played with it on her own.When I suggest it, she may play with it for a short time, but then she moves on to something else.I generally love the Melissa and Doug products, but I would suggest purchasing a different item.

Uh, boooring.
I have 3 kids under 5.We've had this toy for 4 years, and they don't even bat an eye at it.We've tried everything to draw attention to this item, but it is either too advanced for even an alphabet-loving 5-year old, or it is boring.I thought it was fun, but my kids don't agree.

GREAT IDEA!
I loved this puzzle the minute I went on to this site and found it. It is high in teaching kids dexterity, hand-eye coordination, working with phonics, matching pictures to their background, and learning the alphabet. I love it because there are no pieces to get lost. It will be enough to challenge my 3 year old and as she grows with it; it will be enjoyable to do it. She loves puzzles but I was never able to bring them into the car because the pieces are never attached. This one is different and will definitely be going on vacations, grandma's, and to the doctor's office. I also like the fact that it is 2 different puzzles. They can flip to the other side and they still have to figure the puzzle out. This puzzle is a class act all the way. Makes a great gift! ... Read more

Sound quality is poor, but otherwise nice
My son loves this and enjoys the realistic animal noises.The pictures are attractively and realistically painted.There is a good selection of farm animals.

Drawbacks:
- the sound quality is very poor.It sounds tinny and distorted.
- the sounds are activated by a light sensor, which is covered when the puzzle piece is replaced.Unfortunately, this means they will also sound when the lights are turned off unless the pieces are in place.It has scared the bejeesus out of me when I've turned off the light in his room. ... great puzzle for growing the mind!
I purchased one of these puzzles for my daughter who is almost 3.The puzzle was a big step up for her.It was like doing an adult puzzle with the edges and interlocking pieces.She can get most of the puzzle together by herself.It is great for concentration and searching as well as the skills she uses to get the piece in place.I think it is a great puzzle to take a step up from the baby puzzles.
