Friendly farm animals surround the barn and tractor in this handcraftedwooden puzzle. This is a terrific puzzle for the very young--it is made of sturdy wood, and each of the nine pieces features a grip knob to help maneuver the pieces into place. Each piece is approximately 1.5 by 3 inches and fits easily into its own hole; the identicalpicture in the hole makes finding "where it goes" easy. The farm animals pictured includea duck with chicks, a sheep, a horse, a cow, a rooster with hen and chicks, a pig withpiglets, and a goat. --Richard Farr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great first puzzle for 1-2 year-olds
This 9-piece puzzle was the most popular first puzzle with both my son and daughter, starting around 18 months. First, it's a high-quality puzzle. The art is detailed and realistic (while still being appealing to young children), and the construction is durable (i.e., children can step on it and not break or bend it). Second, the pegs make it accessible to younger children and allow them to practice their pincher skills. The pegs reduce frustration because it's easier to hold on to them and rotate them into the proper direction. Third, and most importantly, the puzzle has animal pictures behind each of the puzzle pieces. The animal pictures made the puzzle fun when the kids first used it; they would get excited to reveal the animal and quickly developed favorites. Later, the animals turned the puzzle into a memory game as we asked "where's the horse". Then, we increased the complexity by asking more indirect questions like "where's the animal that has puppies". I highly recommend this puzzle as a first puzzle for any child between the ages of 1 and 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Puzzle We Own
My son got this for his 1st birthday. He took right to it, seeing all the animals he was learning about. Now, he is 3 1/2 and loves it all the same, except he knows how to put the pieces in all by himself.Sometimes to keep it exciting we race puzzles to see who can finish their's first.Even through all the use, this puzzle looks brand new! It's Great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-made product
A sturdy and well-made puzzle. My twin girls are a little late in developing fine motor skills, so this was a great choice for them. It's a BIG puzzle and the individual pieces are large enough that they're hard to lose. They're well-finished enough that it seems safe to let the little ones chew on them. The variety of shapes and images underneath are nice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Super Developmental Activity for Little Ones!
I purchased the Jumbo Knob Puzzle: Shapes for my son's 1st birthday. It was too difficult at first, but he quickly grew into it.We'd work it together, and I'm still amazed how much he'd retain the next time we would attempt to put it together.I like that we could work on shapes, colors, matching, and developmental skills in the same toy.Additionally, the jumbo knobs are easy to work, and the pieces don't have to go in with the label upright. This is especially helpful when placing the octagon, and the pentagon pieces.William was fond of this puzzle, and it's held up extremely well.He finally allowed me to put it in the closet with the rest of his baby toys, and he's almost 4-years old.

There are pictures underneath, but not the pictures of the shape. This toy requires a bit more thinking than the typical "pictures under the pieces" puzzle. The pictures are animated objects that reflect everyday life, such as, a clock, a house, and a school bus.The pieces are very chunky for little hands, and have large jumbo knobs. My only gripe is with some of the picture selections. The diamond picture is a close-up of a diamond window. My son didn't know what it was, and when I asked him today he said, "I guess it's a diamond, mom."Perhaps, a better choice would be a kite.At any rate, the puzzle makes an excellent activity for young children. I definitely recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars too expensive

My little girl received this puzzle along with two other ones on her second birthday. I thought it would be a little too advanced for her but it turned out to be her favorite one!She showed me that with persistence little hands can achieve great things. She is two and half now and she still loves this puzzle, whether it is to count the objects on each finger or to learn the names of the fingers it keeps her busy each time she picks it up. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Mom of Twins
I got the fire truck puzzle for my 20 month old twin boys, who love all types of vehicles, especially emergency vehicles, and have "graduated" from the single shape peg puzzles. They loved the fire truck, but required assistance to put it all together. My criticism is that the fire truck puzzle pieces could be cut according to parts of the fire truck, such as wheels, window, etc, which would also conceptually teach the parts of a vehicle and make putting the puzzle back together more logical/easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent transitional puzzle
This is a wonderful wood puzzle for the toddler who finds the baby wood puzzles too easy but who doesn't quite have the dexterity (or patience) to fit together classic puzzle shaped pieces.Because it is all wood, it can stand up to the wear and tear of a toddler. My son (20 months) found this hard at first, but was thrilled to have the challenge and would not stop working on it for days until he could do it easily. The picture is underneath the pieces. The is one of my son's very favorite toys of all time! He also loves the school bus one that is similar by the same company.

4-0 out of 5 stars Survived Destruct-o boy!
Soon after my sons 2nd birthday, I searched for puzzles that would challenge him more than the 1-piece, 1-hole type. What I found was stimulating for my little guy, and it gave us countless hours of one of one time together. The "Fire Truck Peg Puzzle" is different from other peg puzzles that have one piece per opening. This puzzle has one large opening, and no separations. The puzzle encourages young children to think, yet at the same time have fun, because it includes the same picture beneath the pieces. It requires more concentration than the stage-1 type of puzzle, and it was exactly what William needed.

I found this age group learns, and retain more information from realistic pictures, or photographs of everyday things, rather than animated illustrations. The manufacturer of this toy understands that, and although the Fire Truck is a rendered drawing, it closely resembles its real-life counterpart. The puzzle is designed well.By that, I mean the division of the pieces is perfectly presented. In addition, each piece includes a red peg so the puzzle is easy to work.

William has enjoyed this puzzle from the time I eyed it in the store. In fact, he's not ready to give it up, and why should he.He turns 3 next month, so he's had 8 good months with the "Fire Truck Peg Puzzle" and will probably continue to "work it" a while longer. It's held up well considering my sons destruct-o moods, and will probably carry on for the next generation's play and abuse. 2-years and up.

Happy Playing,

My kid mostly played with the cars as though they were cars.He did some shape matching for a few minutes, but would get bored with that pretty quickly. My biggest problem was pulling the splinter out of his lip after he gnawed on one of the puzzle pieces.

One of the first steps in learning to read words and solve mathproblems is being able to recognize and label symbols. While your babymay not be naming the entire alphabet or managing multiplication by thetime she's 1 year old, this interlocking set certainly offers a firmfoundation for future reading and math learning. Each 12-by-12-inchpuzzle piece contains an easy-to-grasp, pullout numeral or letter ofthe alphabet; there are 60 pieces in all. Parents may need to helpyoung toddlers with assembling the mat, since it requires more detailedpuzzle-fitting skills. But children as young as 1 year old might beable to fit the large letters and numbers into the slots by themselves. This also makes a comfortable tumbling mat or a nicely cushioned playarea. The set comes in a clear vinyl storage case with a zip closure.--Hannah Reynolds ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great as a soft play area!
I purchased this toy for my 9 month old son. We have hardwood floors throughout our house and it works great as a soft play area. Due to his age, I didn't expect him to play with it as a puzzle or understand the letters. He does chew on the various pieces. I have to watch to make sure he doesn't bite any pieces off but so far it hasn't been any issue. He likes to pull it apart but it's so easy to put back together...it usually only takes a few minutes. I think it's a great activity for him and a good introduction to letters and puzzles. I also have dogs and I love this playmat because it can easily be wiped down and cleaned. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this product and would highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent toy
First in response to other posts- I agree. Although this is a toy with big pieces and it's cushy it really is not meant for little kiddos. Teething babies chewing on this will leave bit marks on the pieces.

Having said that- this is a favorite at our house.

The pieces are easy to put together. They are big enough for little fingers to put the letters and numbers in the right hole with little effort. They also connect together to build things (such as cubes, boxes, walls). This makes it more than just a puzzle.

I look for toys that are easy to play with that encourage creative play and exploration. IF they are somewhat educational, then that is better. I also look for toys that have more than a button to push that makes noise or lights go on. I like toys that are somewhat quiet.

This toy fits into that completely.

We also take this with us outside and play with it. It gives the baby and nice clean place to sit.It is easy to set up and stores very compactly. It cleans off very easily.

THis is just a great toy and well played with at our house.
Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very soft and educational playmat
I got this for my children's room, a 3 year old boy and a 6 month old girl. We love sitting on it and playing since it makes a soft playmat on our hardwood floors as well as minimizing noise. It's very large so the family fits easily on it!My son loves to take all the letters out and put them back where they belong or jump between letters. He already knew all the letters when I got this mat but it has only emphasized his fascination with letters and added a new dimension to our word and letter play as well as other games. Cars and balls roll easily on it. The mat has numbers 0-9 which is good. The 6 month old has spit and drooled on it a bit and I have found it easy to clean under running water and wipe dry. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES these puzzles!
These durable, well-constructed wooden puzzles are a big hit with the 18 months + crowd.I believe my son's love of trucks started with this educational puzzle. The pieces are easy for little hands to grasp with the attached pegs, the puzzle is easy yet developmentally sound for toddlers and definitely worth the money.Do yourself a favor though--get a puzzle holder if you plan on purchasing a few of these types of puzzles...

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a very nice learning toy
We purchased this for our sons, after finally finding it @ Toys'R'Us.

The toy is beautifully hand-made -- as well as perfectly put together, however, it does chip very easily...

Being that usually a child, as young as 1 1/2 will begin using puzzles, if interested; I think they should coat the puzzle a little better to avoid the various bumps and scraps it might encounter..

Other then the slight chipping after less than a month, it is a very nice puzzle, which is actually easier for our kids to play with then the regular flat puzzles...I think it was a very good idea for motor skill improvement...

4-0 out of 5 stars nice, smooth, durable puzzle
This is a nice puzzle, but I perfer the Jumbo Knob Puzzle Farm. The Jumbo Knob Puzzle has a knob instead of a peg and it is easier for little children to grasp.

This puzzle will do just fine though, .... The edges are smooth and the base of the puzzle is thick enough that it is not going to break. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but kind of cheaply made
My boys are 3.5 years and 18 months. Theylove these puzzles and never get tired of them. My only complaint is that they are rather cheaply made. The paper peels up and I've had to glue it down on the actual puzzle board as well as the puzzle pieces themselves. Other than that, they take a lot of wear and tear and have held up OK so far.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well made toy
I am impressed with the way these puzzles were made.I was looking for wooden puzzels and these have painted on pictures, not decals.I am not worried about my daughter ruining them.I am a little disappointed as others have said with certain aspects.I didn't read the reviews before I bought this one.I will be more careful next time. I just bought it for the good price. One puzzle does not have pegs.None of mine have the pictures under the pieces, only the words. My daughter doesn't mind as she can't read; however, I think that the pictures would better facilitate her learning and the pegs would make it easier to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent first jigsaw puzzle for 2 or 3 year olds!
My sons wanted to do these puzzles over and over again when they were two years old. They exclaimed, "I did it!" with pride when they were able to put together the 4 piece puzzles all by themselves. They were also happy to put together the puzzles with 6 to 9 pieces with a little help from mom.The puzzles with more pieces offer an appropriate challenge to kids who are a little older. When we get this puzzle out, my four-year-old and my six-year-old each like to choose a couple of the trains to put together because they like the Thomas characters so much. The puzzles are made from cardboard, so they did wear down a bit after being played with oodles of times by such young children...but they have been a great value. These puzzles are a quick and fun activity to share with your kids.

I bought my twin sons this puzzle/peg toy for their 2nd birthday. They have loved this toy from the start. It is very colorful and that initially attracted them to it.Then they enjoyed putting pegs in the different holes. At first it was random, now at almost 3 years old, they like to sort by colors (orange pegs in the orange piece)and see how high the pegs can stack. They also love to count the pegs in each piece. The entire toy is very durable and if you lose a piece, Lauri will replace the part for a nominal charge.I love all of Lauri's toys and we bought the peg board and additional pegs. The primer pak is also a fun kit to take on the road.We take these toys to church, restaurants, and they are a great distraction when I have to make phone calls. They are quiet toys and they require no batteries. ... My 12-month-old loves these puzzles and will play with them every day.She can't put the pieces back by herself yet, but the large knobs are helping her learn. We are really disappointed in the shelving unit, though. It is made of particle board and fell apart the same day we got it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for Young Kids
Beware of the manufacturer's age on this toy. They say its appropriate for 12 months and up but I disagree. My son put one of these pieces in his mouth and it started to come apart...I'm not sure if its the "sticker" with the animal on it or if the wood itself started to splinter, but I put these puzzles away for when he's a lot older. Its a shame because he enjoyed just banging the pieces together...but I'm not willing to take the chance that he'll get a splinter caught in his throat when I'm not looking.I did give it 4 stars, however, because I can tell my son will enjoy these as he gets a little older.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Toy-Beware storage box
My daughter loves these puzzles. They are great for teaching interactions with her.The large knobs are perfect for her to maneuver. My only concern is the storage box.It is very heavy if pulled down by your child. Also, the puzzles often don't slide in the slots straight(will tilt off the track) and this causes the puzzle to jam in the box. This is extremely frustrating to my daughter who likes to take the puzzles out and slide them back in.Good solution would be to just keep the wood storage box out of reach. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Single Wire Puzzle Rack
I bought this item for my 2 year granddaughter last week. This rack works so well for those hard to store/stack wooden puzzles. My daugther "in-law" took one look at how nice the puzzles were stored in this rack, that she suggested that Nana get Jolene one for Christmas to have at home. I plan to do just that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for homes and classrooms!
As a teacher and a parent, I highly recommend this item. It's perfect for the classroom because it doesn't take up a ton of space, yet it holds twelve puzzles. It's also pretty inexpensive for a storage case, not to mention that the class actually likes to put the puzzles away with this case!

I'm buying one for my house, as well. It has tipped ends that won't scratch my hardwoods, which makes my husband happy, and it means that I can buy a couple of more puzzles because they store so easily, and more puzzles, of course, please my children. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Toddlers get a tactile treat with this wooden, four-piece pet menagerie puzzle. The cheery gray tabby cat, orange dog, and white rabbit all come with soft patches of furon their backs. (Unfortunately, the wooden parrot piece was left out of the sensoryfun--it comes with no feathers.) The challenge is for children to first match the pieces with thepicture in the slots and then fit them in correctly. The puzzle shapes don't sink all the wayinto their slots, and instead stay slightly raised, so they are easy for little hands to graspand lift. The careful handcrafting is evidenced in the brightly painted pictures and cleanlysanded edges. --Hannah Reynolds ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute Puzzles!
I haven't seen the Twinkle, Twinkle puzzle yet, but I bought the Tek Nek Talking Jack and Jill puzzle for my niece and nephew (ages 3 years and 18 months) for Christmas. It is adorable and they love it!Another person who posted here mentioned that the sound is loud.I didn't think so at all! It's comparable to many toys on the market.

I don't think I'd recommend buying the whole series of these puzzles, but if your child has a favorite nursery rhyme, one of the puzzles in the series might be a nice gift.Good luck in finding any or all of them!

3-0 out of 5 stars Neat Toy, but way too loud
I bought all six of these talking music puzzles, thinking they would be great for my 2 year old.She loves them and plays the music over and over again. She can't yet put the puzzle pieces where they should go, but there is a button you can press for the music only. These puzzles are way too loud. I had to finally put them away because you could here the music throughout the entire house. They are very cute, but I wish I didn't get them. ... Read more
