Editorial Review The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was so close toperfection that the idea of dramatic improvements in the sequel seemedpretty far-fetched, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 offers so muchmore that it almost puts its predecessor to shame. The graphics arevastly improved, there are tons of new tricks to pull off, and the gamehas more secrets than the CIA. Even if you played the original todeath, there's enough new stuff here to keep you occupied for months tocome. Pro Skater 2 is all about customization. You can still play asone of the real-world skaters represented in the game, such as SteveCaballero, Elissa Steamer, and Mr. Hawk himself, but the real fun comesfrom creating your own skater and rising up through the ranks. As youconquer the massive skate parks included in this release, you rack upcash to be spent on pumping up your stats or adding new tricks to yourrepertoire. You can specialize in verts, concentrate on your streetskills, or take a more balanced approach, and the addition of manualswill let you string together tricks from either category to rack upsome amazing scores. The custom options extend to a complete skate-parkeditor that is easy enough to use that we were creating basic arenas inless than 15 minutes. It's a thoughtful addition to one of the mostpurely entertaining games ever released. --T. Byrl Baker Pros:

Editorial Review The first golf title for the Dreamcast, Tee Off is in the vein ofarcade-style golf games like the Hot Shots Golf series on thePlayStation. Players control big-headed, Japanese animation-style characters onvibrantly-colored 3-D courses. Shots are viewed from multiple cameraangles--including some mesmerizing aerial views--with the ball leaving a fading trailbehind it. While Tee Off does require some basic golf knowledge, it uses astandardized control scheme which even those who've never played video golf willbe able to pick up on right away. In addition to customizable difficulty levels,Tee Off offers various modes of play, including gate ball (think croquetin cyberspace) and world tour, which rewards players' high scores by "unlocking"new characters and equipment. Admittedly, Tee Off isn't for devotees of more simulation-oriented golftitles, as they'll probably pass it off as kiddie fare. However, casual videogolfers and those new to the armchair sport are in for one heck of a good timeon the links. --Joe Hon Pros:

Editorial Review Visual Concepts created a huge stir with the original NFL 2K--thefirst football video game that actually looked like you were watching a game onTV. NFL 2K2, the third game in the series, still features themind-boggling graphics, stunning player animations, and great play modes of theoriginal. And, despite an often frustrating passing engine, it's still one ofthe best sports simulations around. You can play as any NFL team in a variety of modes: practice, tourney, exhibition, season, playoffs, franchise, fantasy, tutorial, and network (againstup to seven other players nationwide). The franchise mode is again one of thegame's strengths, as it offers a variety of scouting and free agency options, letting you customize your roster as a general manager based on the statisticsand financial demands of actual players. Now you can learn what the WashingtonRedskins already know--the salary cap is a cruel mistress. The player animations are again the star of the show. There are literally dozensof potential endings to any collision in NFL 2K2, from stumbling fiveyards after a shoestring tackle to spinning dizzily between two linebackers tosomersaulting through the air after stretching for a catch over the middle. Andalthough the tackles can be spectacular, the game doesn't betray its simulationroots by making them too extreme. These aren't torn from the comics pages, as insome games. Sega Sports has talked up its new passing system quite a bit, and it is bothchallenging and intriguing--perfect for the hard-core simulation expert.Unfortunately, the rest of us are left struggling to complete 5 to 10 passes agame. Essentially, the game asks players to expertly anticipate routes and timethe receiver's catch. This is no easy task in a fast-moving game such as this,as receivers routinely drop wide-open passes on the rare occasions they do getopen, and you'll find your primary receiver blanketed by two or more defensivebacks on most plays. The passing engine isn't overwhelmingly flawed, but averagegamers will need some serious time to overcome the Ravens-like pass defensethey'll face early on. The running game was the original NFL 2K's main weakness, and it remainsthe single biggest improvement over the evolution of the series. Sometimesrunning between the tackles in NFL 2K2 can be a tad too easy and runningoutside can be too challenging, but the game rewards players who see holesdevelop and are adept at cutbacks. It's the small details, though, that make NFL 2K2 the sports simulationtriumph that it is. The commentary--although still prone to calling turnoversincorrectly--is first rate, the on-field player dialogue is highly entertaining, and even the stadium music and crowd chants add to the atmosphere rather thanannoy. The game isn't necessarily worth an upgrade for people who already own NFL2K1, as the improvements aren't dramatic (unless updated rosters are yourmain concern). But for football fans who want one of the best-looking sportssimulations ever made--and who don't mind the initial frustration of lousyquarterback ratings--NFL 2K2 is a Hail Mary come true. --RiversJanssen Pros:

THE BAD I love this game and recommend this to anyone
One my favorite things about this game is the ability to throw bullets or pop ups its your choice but pop ups are more likely to be intercepeted. Bullets are the best to avoid a defender also note if you try hail mary a bullet it will be pretty crooked far reach from the reciever. The best team to do hail marys is the Rams and Vikings since they have atleast one fast reciever and when there fast you just chuck that ball way out there like a 70 yard throw and you think you over throw to Randy Moss or Isacc Bruce but they smoke almost all dbs and wide open to make the catch if it isnt overthrown. The graphice are amazin like NFL 2k1 all the same moves but require strategy since they canged the way they juke. Well in nfl2k1 you can just pull a juke move and most likely joke al the time with a group of deffender you can get away with this is what [made me mad] in NFl2k1. Now we have NFL2k2 and wel none of the Bullcrap no more since when you sped you recver or running back sows down to make the spins or break the tackle. My most favorite thing is to to a Full NFL Fantasy Draft. i like to choose my players win by one witht he cpu alos taking a few of the good ones makes it challenging and in th eend you can see your stats for yu off and def then you start a fl seaon with the players you choosen the they keep track off eerything including who goes to the probowl. The online play is great! The only thing is when you play with someone your connection affects the game in a way like when you throw the ball to a wide reciever he most likey drop it since the people online just tackle them before it happens I have done it too but when i do it offline its pass interfernce maybe this happens because of 56k modem since I have gotten way with that tackle the guy to make hiim drop trick. Well the online is pretty good if your isp is good has a ranking system and also keeps track of how many wins and losses you have. I give NFL2k2 4 stars since the online play. I never like it when people quit when are about to get a win. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

There are tons of fish (including at least one type of shark). You can get all manner of things to put in your aquarium (including fish which is a nice thing to have in an aquarium). I have never played this game using the Dreamcast Fishing Rod Controller, but it can be played very easily just with the regular Dreamcast controller. All in all, this is a good game to play if you don't want to get into some major RPG or adventure game. It's a good buy! ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review Just when it seems 3-D fighting games have permanently made 2-D fightinggames obsolete, something like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 comes along and provesjust how deep and fun 2-D fighters can be. It's better than its predecessor inevery way, and arguably the best 2-D fighting game to grace the Dreamcast. The amount of playable characters is enough to put any fighting fan's salivaryglands in overdrive. Beginning with favorites such as Spider Man, Wolverine,Ryu, and Chun Li, players can eventually unlock 56 characters. We had our handsfull just mastering a few of these fighters, and getting familiar with all 56would take months of intense practice. There are almost too many moves, alldepicted with superb animation and augmented by several tag-team combos. Whenthe match begins, you can pick three characters. Once things heat up, you cancall in your pals to unleash a massive move on your opponent. This addsimmensely to the game's depth, and button mashers will be in for a shock whenthey find that their mistimed tag-team moves backfire. Visually, this game is intense. The large characters are slightly jagged aroundthe edges, but that's more than compensated for by the massive amount ofanimation frames, colorful special effects, and stunning 3-D backgrounds thatare loaded with detail. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 also delivers a sonicperformance that is nearly arcade-perfect. This is a must-buy for any fightingfan, especially those who have a couple of buddies to bash. Just be prepared toput in a lot of time in practice mode if you want to get good. --T. ByrlBaker Pros:

Editorial Review As first-person shooters go, Rainbow Six is to Dreamcast what GoldenEye 007is to the Nintendo 64: the most innovative and intriguing title of its kind for the platform. Borrowed fromTom Clancy's novel of the same name, Rainbow Six offers a fascinating first-person adventurethrough lush worlds and highly detailed environments that have yet to be seen on gaming consoles. Butdon't stop to smell the roses too often or you'll end up staring down the business end of an oncomingStinger missile. You command an elite antiterrorism force through a series of stealth and action missions. Sometimes youwill need to sneak through a foreign embassy in the dark with your night vision goggles on, while othertimes you'll need to launch a full-on weapons attack on your enemies. The game does both types ofmissions well, but you'll have to spend some time planning with your team before you start each level.Plotting out missions in advance and positioning team members lends a unique real-time strategy feel to thealready excellent shooter aspect of the game. As the team leader, you are solely responsible for making sure each mission goes well. Direct and protectyour squad, save any hostages who might be hanging around, and accomplish your main missionobjectives. The latter may include sabotage, simple spying, or even assassinations. Good luck. --BillHutchens Pros:

You and your group do drills to train for your missions. The only bad part is the missions and choosing all of your stuff takes a long time....A VERY LONG TIME..... After you have all of your weapons and materials you go on over 21 different missions. You kill terrorists and try to save hostages by getting past the terrorists guarding them who will shoot you right when they see you which causes a problem. It is nearly impossible to save the hostages. On your missions you also go to certian areas and get ready to make your attack on the enemies. Then its time to attack with your sweet guns. This game is a great shooting simulator that will attract many people who enjoy hunting or shooting with guns. This game is almost too realistic which isn't all that bad, but bad when it comes to you getting killed all the time when you go on certain missions. If you are looking for some fun with your Dreamcast...this is the game to get. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review Playing MDK2 is like riding a roller coaster orwatching a good action movie. In fact, fighting aliens has never beenthis much fun. You begin the adventure as Kurt, a human in a Batman-like suitequipped with some loopy but lethal accessories. Kurt packs apowerful chain gun and a built-in parachute for gliding around levels.Kurt also has access to a simple-to-use sniper mode that allows you tosmoothly zoom between multiple magnification levels (1x to 75x) forlong-range kills. As the game progresses, you'll eventually be able tocontrol Kurt's six-legged dog, Max. This is no ordinary housebrokenpet. This not-so-cuddly creature can carry up to four guns at once forimmense firepower. In addition, Max uses a jetpack to fly around(à la Boba Fett of Star Wars fame). Finally, there isDr. Hawkins, who uses his scientific skills to combine commonhousehold objects into weapons of mass destruction. The diversity (andstrangeness) of these characters adds a unique twist to the otherwiseconventional gameplay. Most of the environments you'll encounter in MDK2 are renderedin dark colors--perfectly suited for showing off the game'soutstanding lighting effects. The graphics overall are crisp, incredibly detailed, and brimming with personality. Numerouscut-scenes are rendered using the game's 3-D engine, which lends muchdrama (not to mention comedy) to the storyline. This is one of thoserare games that is as fun to watch as it is to play, and it belongs inthe library of any action fan with a Dreamcast. --T. Byrl Baker Pros:

As a first person shooter on the Dreamcast, this game has impeccable control and beautiful scenery to take in along the way.I experienced SOME slow down, but not nearly as much as I expected. When this game is at its best, and there are plenty of great moments, it is very fast, very fun, and is filled with wild pyrotechnics, cool experiences, and good humor. At the game's worst, it's nearly impossibly difficult.I repeat, it is very very VERY hard. There are puzzles that are so slightyou may miss them. There are jumping levels which allow no room for even the smallest misstep. There are shooting levels where a seemingly neverending wave of well armed and suicidal aliens comes at you, slowly wearing you down, using up your ammo, and then picking you off. There are bosses the size of a city block with seemingly unstoppable attacks. Then, when you think you've seen it all, you get all of the above in the very same level. In short -- there are parts of this game, that even with a strategy guide, are just plain sadistic. The only saving grace is that even at this game's most difficult, it is consistent:the control stays the same, there are no glitches in gameplay, and the enemies do not cheat. You have a small, but "fair" shot at clearing every board.Even if you may have to play a particular level nearly perfectly, it is possible to advance. The question is: do you really want to put yourself through that kind of torture. Upon completing this game, I felt more of a sense of satisfaction than I ever have in completing any other game, but that's not so much a cautious endorsement as a warning. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Editorial Review Sega's Tennis 2K2 adds nearly every element fans ofVirtua Tennis longed forupon its release. The game features eight female players, including the Williamssisters and Monica Seles, along with eight male players, including PatrickRafter and Yevgeny Kafelnikov. As if that's not enough, you can create your ownmale and female players--selecting from a range of faces, hairstyles, heights, and weights--and train them to conquer the new World Tour mode. The gameplay is slightly deeper than in the previous installment thanks toseparate topspin and backspin buttons and a lob button to foil opponents whorush the net. You'll need all the tricks you can muster to beat the revamped AIopponents, who put up a fight even on the easiest difficulty setting. Theamazing graphics engine from the original game has been tweaked to look evenbetter, with smoother animations and more detailed players. Squint and you'llalmost be fooled into thinking you're watching a TV broadcast. The fun minigamesfrom the original are back and better than ever, but it's the depth of the WorldTour mode that keeps us coming back for more, and that puts our copy ofVirtua Tennis in permanent retirement. --T. Editorial Review Does tearing down the streets of San Francisco at death-inducing speedsappeal to you? If so, San Francisco Rush 2049 is your game. However, in2049, the legendary hills and hairpin turns of the City by the Bay have beenmodified for extreme racing action, if not exactly deep gameplay. Still, it'sthe blazing speeds and colors that'll keep arcade racing fans applying the pedalto the proverbial metal. If you're a fan of the Rush series, you'll be happy to see that the basicgameplay hasn't changed much. All of the races take place on tracks that featurewild colors and many twists and turns. This time, however, the setting is afuturistic San Francisco that resembles our present-day one only vaguely. Asusual, the secret to winning Rush's races isn't so much driving abilityas it is finding all of the shortcuts on a given track. This time around, youactually can make your car glide (by activating hidden wings) whenever itcatches some air--a cool feature that feels somewhat underutilized. In additionto standard racing, Rush also offers five other play modes, includingghost (in which you race against an image of your previous best lap time),circuit, battle, and stunt modes. In battle, you and up to three other friends drive around huge arenas furiouslywhile trying to blast each other to kingdom come. Your cars can carry a host ofodd weapons including chain guns, mines, and mortar. All in all, fans ofTwisted Metal or Vigilante 8 should have fun with battle mode, asthe arenas are cleverly designed, and the action is fast and furious. It'salmost worth price of admission alone. As in previous Rush editions, the stunt mode offers arenas that'll testyour control of the cars' already ludicrously exaggerated physics. You'llperform impossible maneuvers in arenas that defy even fundamental laws ofarchitecture. The more flips, spins, and death-defying landings that you pulloff, the higher your score. I was a little surprised at the lack of aggression that was shown bycomputer-controlled racers, which seemed a bit lax in their efforts to stop youfrom passing them, and instead almost behaved as if they were on rails, andoblivious to you stealing the lead. Also, while the graphics show amazing amounts of detail and color, at timesthey'll show a definite slowdown. No, it's not quite bad enough to ruin a race, but it's noticeable and does show some sloppiness on Midway's part. After the race has been won, you'll find, for near-mindless arcaderacing/gliding/blasting/stunts, that San Francisco Rush 2049 is a highlyplayable arcade racer that'll make fans of the series, both old and new, happythat they own a Dreamcast. If you've never played a Rush game, this is anexcellent intro to the series. --Mark Brooks Pros:

Editorial Review Looking for some good car combat? Vigilante 8: 2ndOffense introduces Dreamcast owners to their first vehicular combatgame, and it's a worthy debut at that. Treacherous transportationoptions include futuristic cars and '70s relics, among other eclecticofferings. Each vehicle has a special weapon, and players can pick upthese weapons, along with napalm, missiles, shields, and tire add-ons oneach of the game's eight levels. Taking place in the late 1970s (where the series debut, Vigilante8, left off), two ex-Vigilantes--Convoy and Houston--have beenkidnapped. Will their friends be able to save them? There are alsonumerous other subplots, including an escaped space chimp that chases analien garbage man and a cybercop chase involving an evil oil baron. Quest mode offers a unique story for each character. There are multipleendings to discover as well as multiple vehicles waiting to be unlockedupon completion of each level's three objectives. The game is the most fustrating game i've ever played. In what other game would your recievers fumble the ball when they are tackled mere inches from the End Zone (sometimes on a first down, sometimes when the game is on the line)? This happened to me at least 3 times in one game! Needless to say it resulted in 3 costly turnovers and I lost the game. The hardest part was the fact that the game was on the EASY level. I expect this kind of CHEAP play on the hardest setting but not on easy. The constant fumbling by players throughout the game is a SERIOUS TURN OFF especially for fans who just want to enjoy a good game. The random and FREQUENT fumbles made this game a worthless piece of junk. The game is also flooded with too many loading screens that get really old really fast when you just want to get into the action. Very poorly designed, Midway. If you still have a bad taste in your mouth from NBA Hoopz then AVOID this game. The graphics are on the same level and the announcer is the same. Do not waste your hard earned money on this poor game! Read the other reviews that warn of the fumbling problem and do not make the mistake I did! PLAY OR RENT BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Editorial Review For those willing to take the bait, Sega Bass Fishing has an addictive gameplay hook that will reel in sporting enthusiasts and even a few hardcore gamers. This realistic 3-D bass fishing simulation shines with three distinct gaming modes, eight fishing environments, and 13 different lures. Let's be honest here. Fishing simulation games aren't for everyone. Many hardcore gamers will likely bypass this title because they believe the genre lacks the instant gratification of fast-moving shooters. That's a shame. Though it might not be everyone's can of worms, Sega Bass Fishing does offer a subtle, highly addictive gaming experience that will challenge even the most seasoned of game veterans. This isn't Quake, to be sure. But you'll need similar gaming smarts and strategies to succeed in this water-based sporting environment. It takes a skilled aim and a steady hand to hook and reel in the largest fish, which are surrounded by smaller, less desirable catches. There's nothing worse than casting your lure directly at a monster-sized bass only to have it intercepted by a meddlesome minnow. We encountered more than our share of near misses, which gives us virtual bragging rights to "the one that got away." While some gamers will prefer the subtlety of free-form fishing sans time constraints, this game also features a fast-action arcade mode that requires the player to meet a minimum quota of catches before advancing to a new fishing environment. An optional Dreamcast fishing controller (sold separately) makes the task of catching these underwater critters all the easier. The controller, which also adds a realistic rumble when you catch a fish, is a highly recommended accessory for the ultimate home fishing experience. --Brett Atwood Pros:

Editorial Review Packed with all the energy and over-the-top moves of a Jackie Chan movie, Power Stone revitalizes the fighting game genre with fully functional 3-D combat environments and frenzied strategy. Face your opponent in a London courtyard and you can hurl café chairs and tables at him before taking him out by swinging around a lamppost. Or fight in a dilapidated shopping mall, and beat your foe down with a giant stuffed teddy bear after tossing him through a storefront window. Each multilevel combat area is stocked with crates, barrels, clubs, even ray guns, and everything can be used as a weapon. Interactive fighting environments are fun, but what really sets Power Stone apart are the power stones. Collecting all three stones transforms the character into a superbeing, unlocking new and devastating attacks. Since the overall goal of the game is to beat up your opponent, and the superform lets you do the most damage, competition for the stones is fierce. If you're tired of the standard fighting game formula and want a little more, Power Stone is the game for you. It's a perfect translation of the arcade hit, and the uncomplicated, frantic combat will bring a grin to many a jaded gamer's face. --Mike Fehlauer Pros:
