Worse, the many vehicles you command are there only to force "variety", each with unnecessarily differing control schemes to fulfill the SAME purpose as another machine. Rage had another early shooter on DC that was much more successful from a gameplay standpoint--Expendable.

Editorial Review Vanishing Point's title suggests the aim of the developers: to achieve a true, endless view without pop-up or fog, so that players can see to the horizon. The game runs at a constant 60 frames per second and features straightforward racing elements; also, it features a stunt mode, in which realistic physics are implemented in unrealistic events, such as slaloms, barrel rolls, and jumping. There are 8 one-player tracks, 4 two-player tracks, and 13 stunt tracks; all of which are available in forward, reverse, and mirrored combinations. Vanishing Point's tune-up shop allows user-friendly but powerful modification of your vehicle's specifications that can be tested on a special tune-up shop track. All of the cars are licensed from top manufacturers like Audi, BMW, and Lotus (to name but a few), and the development team has worked with engineers in the auto industry to ensure that the vehicular physics are both accurate and realistic. ... Therefore you should buy a cheap gameshark. With it, you can unlock all the cars and tracks. There are over 30 cars and 8 tracks. Daytona USA for Dreamcast is also a great game, but it has only 14 cars.
In this game you can not only ace against the computer or your friend but you can also play as a stunt driver where you do many tricks and challenges such as long jump, barrell roll, etc. For every stunt you do you do you get points based on completing it and how well you do in it which you use to unlock the next trick or more cars. The graphics while racing are amazing. The cars look very real and when you crash sparks fly from them. The scenery is very realistic too. The mountains look just like they do in and aroudn Arizona and every now and then you'll see huge airplanes flying overhead. Another neat thing is that when you a riding the sun will glare at you and actually mark it harder to drive. This is a great racing simulator and it also gives a stiff challenge using the stunt driving mode. ANother plus is that this game has a very low price. If you want a good raicng game and own a Dreamcast this is a must have. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review Rayman 2: The Great Escape packs more charm and surprisesin a single level than most games can muster in their entire length. This 3-Dplatformer is designed in the same vein as Super Mario 64 for theNintendo 64and the Gex serieson the PlayStation. With the notable exception of SonicAdventure, Dreamcast owners have suffered through a dry spell whenit comes to action jumping games on the 128-bit system. Rayman 2was worth the wait. The back of the case describes Rayman 2's graphics as "lush," butthat may be an understatement. The game's environments and effects areimpressive. We were awed by the amount of detail that has been designedinto many of the game's environments. Perhaps more amazing is that thegame suffers no slowdown despite the high-resolution visuals. Pretty graphics aside, Rayman 2 delivers solid gameplay that willsuck in both casual and hardcore gamers. The controls are intuitive andspecial moves are easy to pull off. Rayman has a limited set ofmoves--basically he can run, jump, and shoot energy balls. Analog speed controlis fully implemented, letting users pounce through a field ofbutterflies or tiptoe around a sleeping guard. Several puzzles arescattered throughout the game, but they are so ingeniously designed thatyou'll never feel overwhelmed by their complication. We were hard-pressed to come up with many drawbacks to this game. Oneslight flaw is the camera angle, which can sometimes interfere with yourability to accurately control the on-screen action. Fortunately, thiscan usually be amended with a few quick presses of the camera controlbuttons. Other than that, Rayman 2 is as good as it gets in thisgenre. Better still, Dreamcast owners get a special bonus: this versioncontains some extra levels you won't find anywhere else. If you havemultiple systems, this is the version to get. --T. Byrl Baker Pros:

Editorial Review With Metropolis Street Racer, you can drive 40 licensed vehicles from 14 manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Renault, Rover, Mitsubishi, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Honda, and Ford. Two hundred different routes through Tokyo, London, and San Francisco offer 15 square miles of 3-D scenery that's been created from more than 40,000 photographs and 400 hours of video footage. Play in several game modes, including street race, timed run, head-to-head, model street race, model championship, challenge, and championship. Race solo, or against a friend via the split-screen mode, or see how you compare against online speedsters by uploading your performance in the Internet hot lap to get rated in a league. Road-handling dynamics and car physics are affected by changing weather conditions, including fog, snow, and rain. "Real World Time" allows the gamer to race at the correct time of day in each city. Metropolis Street Racer's authentic engine sounds were recorded from a wide range of cars; but, if motor purr isn't enough for you, you can listen to techno, dance, rock, jazz, or country music while you race through the city streets. ... Really a sad disapointment. The graphics are okay but the game play SUCKS!! Avoid this like SARS
The graphics in this game are good although when youre driving at night its hard to see and apprantly it rains in tunnels. The views are good except they should have had one from the driver's viewpoint. Other good points about the graphics are when u shift gears (auto. or man.) u can see the driver shifting. Also, the tires can and will smoke when they should and the right tires too. If u press start and put the tv camera on it like ur watching someone drive and when u do donuts and fishtails it looks pretty cool. Overall the graphics are really good. 9/10 The music for the most part sucks, however u can turn the volume to 0 and either just here ur engine and the other cars' engines or u can listen to ur own music on something other than ur dreamcast. The engine sounds may seem repetitive, but i noticed between the mustang and the skyline, they sound the same except the mustang has a whistling noise when it gets to around 60mph, thats the only i noticed but im sure there are more small differences like that. The sound changes when ur view changes. With the TV camera u cant here the engine but u can hear everthing else. When have the view from the bumper the engine is loud. when u have the outside view then it sounds just like any of the other cars. As the other cars get closer they sound louder. This definitely helps alot. U will here ur tires squeak when ur burnout or skid and u will here the rain as its falling. Sounds good, 8/10 When i first got this game, i thought that i was ripped off, u start of with 3 really crappy cars. As the game went on i got better cars. The first few chapters are pretty boring, but once u get some better cars the game will get better. Eventually u will end up with cars like the 300zx, supra, rx-7, mustang, and of course the skyline gt-r. And as for the people who think the cars in this game are slow, read the features, 40 licensed SPORTS cars, not supercars or f1 cars. and besides, these arent very accurate versions of these cars, in a good way of course, i have gone 180mph with the skyline, and 185 with the supra. And besides, what other racing game will allow u to drive a lawnmower. (I think i got to 100mph with it) Ive had the game for almost 2 years now and i still play it every once in a while. Once u get into the game u wont be able to get out of it. U will also get better as the game goes on so dont worry about the difficulty. The kudos system is not bad at all and there are ways to easily stack up on them. Fun to play, 9/10 Overall i would have to give this game a 10/10. I dont recommend renting this game though. Buy it and give it a chance, u wont regret it. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review The battle that pits the noble Jedi Knights against the nasty TradeFederation continues in Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles in itstriumphant form on the Dreamcast. For fans of very basic arcade beat-'em-ups,this is quite possibly the most improved translation of a bad PlayStation gameever made for the Dreamcast. Saber-swinging action on a console never has lookedbetter. Yes, the game has bright and shiny graphics that take advantage of theDreamcast's extra processing muscle. The music and sound effects also areexcellent, and probably are the elements that capture the atmosphere of thefilms most effectively. But the game relies heavily on the basicwalk-from-left-to-right-and-chop-up-the-baddies formula. Jedi PowerBattles really hasn't moved this style of gameplay forward from thenow-ancient Double Dragon and Final Fight games of yore. Fortunately, LucasArts made quite a few wise tweaks for this new version. Inaddition to the original playable characters (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, andMace Windu), the Dreamcast version adds the speedy Ki-Adi-Mundi. In addition todistinctive speed, strength, and personal style of saber attack, each characterhas special Force powers that get stronger as the game progresses. Of course, using your lightsaber like a Louisville Slugger to hit laser blasts into linedrives is the coolest Jedi trick in the game. The Dreamcast version runs very quickly and smoothly (supposedly at 60 framesper second), no matter how much action is taking place on the screen. New tothis version are training levels for up-and-coming Jedis and a cool mano amano fighting mode (think Street Fighter with lightsabers) that'sgood for a few laughs. Without the Star Wars name, this game could've been considered ratherordinary. But Jedi Power Battles delivers the fun for all who ever wanteda chance to go toe-to-toe with Darth Maul and all of his friends from the DarkSide. Neither original nor deep in gameplay, Jedi Power Battles does showthat the Force is still strong in the Dreamcast. --Mark Brooks Pros:

Editorial Review Experience the pure beauty and freedom of flight, without guns, without missiles, and without leaving your couch. Aero Wings puts you in control of the Blue Impulse stunt airplane team. You lead the team through precision maneuvers and death-defying loops. In either the challenging one-player or simultaneous multiplayer modes, Aero Wings is all about perfect stunt flying, free of the burdens of air combat. The meat of the game is the Blue Impulse tour mode, where you enter several air shows. As you pull off intense and graceful stunts in follow-the-leader type aerobatics, you score enough points and progress to the next of 20 diverse missions. Sky mission mode has you flying through suspended hoops in challenging time trials. Throw in the free flight mode and the beautiful replays, and Aero Wings is a uniquely beautiful and addictive game. --Sajed Ahmed Pros:

graphics: Horrible music: Even Worse missions; Boring replay value: All of the Above overall rating; 2 stars!(PATHETIC)
The game is the most realistic flight simulator game I have ever played. The realism comes from accurate aerodynamic interpretations of stick movements, flaps, landing gear, etc...If you ever wanted to be a real pilot, then this game is for you.It is such an accurate simulation that it might even help you earn your pilot's license. The game is organized into 3 sections: training, map missions, and free flight. In most games, the training section is a small demo that you just have to get through to get on with the game --- not here!Training is the bulk of the game, and is itself divided into 2 sections -- basic flight training, and advanced aerodynamics. The basic flight training takes you through maneuvers like landing, taking off, rolls, loops. Each training chapter must be completed before advancing. And completing each chapter is not as easy as you may first expect. You get briefed on the training flight, execute it, and then get feedback and rated on how you performed. You are striving for excellence, because the maneuvers must be executed with extreme precision, because the goal of the game is to join an aerobatic flight team similar to the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds. The aerobatic training includes maneuvers like barrel rolls around your flight leader, loops in formation, etc...very very tricky, and a complete joy to practice. If you're looking for a "shoot-em-up", then this isn't what you're looking for.But if you're looking for the best flight simulator and aerobatic trainer, then Aero Wings is the game you want. ... The racing itself starts off fairly easy (not too easy) and gets progressively harder. You have to win a particular race to "unlock" the next race or 2.A few of the races aren't against other opponents, but against the clock.Test Track for example requires you to find 30 coins in the alloted time. Some of the races are very difficult to master.I'm still working on Haunted Mansion!! A good game.Worth the money, especially for Disney fans.

Editorial Review Looney Tunes: Space Race features eight all-time favorite characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Taz, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam, and Wile E. Coyote. The 12 tracks include shortcuts, jumps, and traps, and there are over 40 competitive events. Players can pummel opponents with gags like the portable hole, falling elephants, retractable boxing glove, and instant storm. Up to four players can race at a time. ... Read more Reviews (12)
The graphics is the games only high point! The tracks have no barriers so you can FALL OFF ALMOST EVERY ONE. This makes for a steep learning curve and may be a turn-off for some. Back to the items, because there are so many to be used by you and the computer you never really enjoy the racing element. If you win a race its because of pure luck (i.e getting a useful item at the right time) and not due to skill...BIG turn off. With unforgiving AI opponents, lame items, gameplay based on luck and uninspired tracks you could make this a rental or a borrow from a friend...just don't but!! Mario Kart annyone?
Unfortunately, it falls a little flat in a number of areas.Control is consistent and acceptable, but the hover-scooters just don't do it for me.The tracks play like an extremely easy version of Wipeout. What was wrong with using karts? It's the control, which honestly might be a little TOO precise and TOO fast for its own good that makes the game seem monotonous. The easy tracks are far too easy and the rollercoaster tracks are all fairly similar in how they are played. For those of you who have played Crash Team Racing, you'll miss the variety, the jumps and mud bogs, the tight courses, the ones on ice, and the speedy ones with lots of obstacles. Second, there are a TON of power ups, and the computer, as in most kart games, cheats like crazy. The power ups always provide the randomness to the gameplay, but in this particular game, the near contstant beatings you'll take make the game unbearable at times, constantly stopping and starting again. That said, winning is a fairly simple matter.Get a bunch of rocket boosts, sit back in the middle or back of the pack where you're somewhat protected, and in the final stretch, blast past the competition.Works most of the time, and is a perfect example of just how talent and skill are devalued by this game. All this would be at least a little tolerable if the game held up to its promise of being an immersive Looney Tunes environment.True, the tracks will all look familiar to those of you who have watched enough Bugs Bunny cartoons (especially from the Chuck Jones era) to memorize the lines by heart, and true, the Acme powerups (straight out of a Roadrunner cartoon) are as cool and well done as any you'll see in any kart game, and yes, the characters are well animated, BUT, the game loses it's luster when, halfway through the first race, you've already heard all five of Daffy Duck's catch phrases.Woulda been nice if they would have given the characters, I dunno, maybe another twenty or so things to say AND if they wouldn't talk so much that you'll get tired of them and want to turn the sound down.Of course, their talking is usually in direct response to either using a power-up on someone else, or getting blown up yourself, which, as I mentioned earlier, happens about every ten seconds in some races. I picked this came up ... used, and that's an acceptable price for it.Unfortunately, the DC will die without the cart game that it should have had. It's obvious a lot of work went into this one, and it's a shame that usability testing didn't make this game everything that it could have been.

Editorial Review Are you sick of fighting games that require months of practicejust to master the basic moves? Try JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, aside-scrolling 2-D fighting game that puts the focus squarely onkicking butt. And along with the great controls and colorful graphicsthat look like they were ripped straight out of a cartoon, players aretreated to a fairly entertaining story as the game progresses. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure adds a few more twists to the standard2-D fighting genre, and the strangest are the sidekicks called Standsthat each player has. These familiars occasionally enter the fray whenthe action heats up, and combined attacks with the characters and theStands are the most powerful in the game. The onscreen action can get alittle confusing since so many things are happening at once, but thesimplistic controls help keep things manageable. JoJo's BizarreAdventure is not the best 2-D fighting game ever made--in fact, inmany ways it seems downright dated when compared to superior 3-Dfighters such as Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2.However, if you are seeking a simple fighting fix, JoJo's BizarreAdventure does make a solid and colorful addition to the Dreamcastlineup. --T. The disc itself has two versions of the game on it, one is Jojos venture, and the other is Jojos Bizarre Adventure. Not much difference between the two except "venture" has a survival mode while "bizarre" has more characters to choose from. The game overall is not going to blow any hardcore gamers away, but it can be a fun and humorous alternative to more complex fighters. There are better fighters out there for the same price as this one, so only go for this game if you are a diehard fighting fan and feel the need to have as many as possible or a first time player, otherwise you might feel upset over your purchase if you are used to the likes of Street Fighter and Fatal Fury.

And finally, at the end of level 4 when you have to shoot the antenna, you have to HOLD DOWN the last shot.I played level 4 to the end about 8 times before I figured that out, speaking of frustrating. If you can get past the difficulty, the game is great fun.The music will have you dancing around and the dance moves are spectacular. The voices for Ulala and the other characters fit them perfectly and will make you laugh from time to time.I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes a challenge and doesn't give up easily. ... The main strength of this game is the characters. All of them are loveable. It's very easy to feel like you're right there with them. They all express emotions very well.Never did they feel like tools to get to the end of the game. The story is a very simple bad guy vs good guy one.Comments such as "This is no Final Fantasy" are not a very accurate way of decribing this game.Of course this is no FF.What do you expect?Anyways, the story does not go overboard with dark pasts. It's very suitable for children. And While the story itself is somewhat lackluster, the adoreable characters work to keep it from getting too dull. The gameplay revolves around going into various dungeons, fighting monsters, asending to higher levels, learning new attacks, while progressing through the game. The only real complaint I have is that this game is far too simple. It could've been a huge sleeper hit if these characters weren't trapped in such a simple world.Everything, but the character designs are simplistic.

The main note that may scare away potential Flag to Flag players is that car control is available ONLY by using the analog stick above the D-pad >:-( This makes car control for aggressive drivers (such as myself) extremely difficult at best, especially on road courses (such as Road America or Burke Lakefront) or street courses (such as Toronto or Detroit). This issue is not quite as glaring when racing at the oval-style circuits (such as Miami homestead). Therefore, those unfamiliar with analog-stick driving who do not have a good amount of time to spend perfecting this driving skill should probably stay away from Flag to Flag. This game does fortunately support a racing wheel; I do not own one, but I suspect that car control will be MUCH easier for players using a racing wheel. Flag to Flag contains only two race modes: Arcade and Championship. This means, unfortunately, that only the most diehard of CART racing fans will be keeping this game for any immense length of time. There are no unlockable items, no bonuses to be gained, no goals to attain (other than simply winning races), so it may be best to just borrow this game from a friend, or from a store which permits games to be returned simply for not liking them. For those who simply want to start racing, this is the place to begin.Arcade Mode races are rather short, however - generally only three or four laps in length - so those looking for longer races should instead turn to Championship Mode (see below).Arcade Mode supports both single-player and two-player capabilities.Since these races are rather short, the player(s) will have very little time to try to maneuver up through the field, which makes the analog-stick car control issue mentioned above all the more crucial to success.Interestingly, players are always kept appraised of the driver of the next car ahead on the circuit (regardless of whether there is a difference in consecutive position and/or laps completed), which will help in learning to recognize which drivers are in which cars (by colors, logos, etc.). Championship Mode is a single-player mode with the goal of winning the CART Drivers Championship for the 1998 season using all of the nineteen 1998 race venues in the actual calendar order. The Drivers Championship is won by having the most points at the end of the nineteen rounds of the season; at each race, the top twelve drivers receive from 1 to 21 points, with the other fifteen entrants not receiving any points.Obviously, consistency across all nineteen rounds of the (1998) CART season is key to winning the Drivers Championship.Fortunately, there are three difficulty levels for Championship Mode; selecting Easy at the beginning of the Championship Mode season will give the player a far better chance of attaining consistency (and wins) throughout the season. It is important to note that Championship Mode is the only mode in the game which permits car set-up customization. Overall, Flag to Flag is an interesting game... but only for a while. In less than a week, all but a very few diehard CART fans will likely tire of this game and move on to other games. One must keep this in mind when considering buying Flag to Flag.
Unlike most other games I've played, this one I can play alone for hours without getting bored. I usually tire of playing single player mode with most games, and only play them with friends. This is Flag to Flag's strength. I can play an entire season and still come back for more. There are a lot of different tracks. From city streets to ovals to airport runways. I started this game on Easy mode, then eventually switched to the medium difficulty, and now play at the hardest level. Also, the AI for the other racers is excellent. Before the race, you can adjust almost every feature with the cars. From the tire types, to aerodynamics, to the gear ratio. This is one the most detailed racing game I've ever played. Worth buying for sure! ... Read more Subjects: 1. Video Games

Editorial Review Even if you're not the type to bleat out the 1975 hit "Convoy" over a CB radio, you'll probably still get the sweats thinking about racing with 20 tons of cargo pushing your rig. Choose between four 18-wheel trucks, and then ride against rival truckers and the clock as you try to deliver your payload intact and on time. The game offers 20 stages on the way from New York to San Francisco, as well as four play modes: Arcade, Parking Challenge, Score Attack, and Versus. Eighteen Wheeler is compatible with separately sold steering-wheel controllers. ... Read more Reviews (25)

Editorial Review Has the King of Pop become the Prince of Pugilism? As a sequel to 1999's surprise knockout, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 features Michael Jackson, alongside NBA heavyweight Shaquille O'Neal and a mix of new and returning contestants, for some over-the-top fisticuffs. The game combines authentic boxing action with outrageous costumes, special moves, taunts, and rumble flurries, all of which are unique for each character. Throw some quick jabs in the arcade mode or do it Rocky-style via the enhanced championship mode, in which you'll manage your boxer's training regimen and schedule fights. Adding to the realism are photographers, corner men with spit buckets, beautiful ring girls who announce each new round, and Michael Buffer with his famous "Let's get ready to rumble!" call. ... The controls are more complicated than necessary. For example, threeseparate buttons must be pressed to complete a pass, one to fade back, another to select a receiver, and finally another to catch the ball. Youhave very little time to do this even at the easiest level. Even if youkeep backs in to block, you rarely have more than 2 seconds to complete apass. Even bad rushing teams can sack the QB 10 times per game playing 5minute quarters. This is not realistic, which is consistent with the restof the game. Passing is also blind, since your perspective is from behindthe QB, you rarely see the receivers and have no idea what the coverage is.Your completion success has little to do with these factors, which arecritical in the real game. It's easy to complete passes once you get theknack of pushing the right buttons quickly, but there is little sense ofaccomplishment when your success or throwing has nothing to do withthrowing to the open receiver or exploiting a weakness in the defense. Infact, the type of defense called seems to have no effect on the outcome ofa given offensive play. You can stack the line against the run, completelyplug the hole, and the computer running back will stay on his feet for 10seconds, then break into the secondary for a long TD. This can happen withmediocre backs and excellent defenses. Conversely, the computer willroutinely complete long passes into triple coverage and score longtouchdown passes against a prevent defense. Despite the difficult andnon-responsive controls, once you get the hang of passing, you'll throw oneTD pass after another. Interceptions are few and far between. Ridiculouslyhigh scores are common even when playing 5 minute quarters. I tried toplay a season with my favorite team, and gave up after two games becausethe gameplay was so unrealistic and irritating. Another annoying featureis if you want to switch players, you can only do so for one play at atime. Playing the Rams, I wanted to use Kurt Warner instead of Terry Green. The game allows you to switch them by formation, so if you haven't decidedon a formation, it won't work if you happen to choose a differentformation. After the play is completed, the game reverts to the defaultplayer setting. Extremely annoying. I gave it 1 star because that was thelowest rating possible. It deserves 0 stars. Sega's NFL2K is far farbetter.
