Editorial Review

Capcom has a reputation for making great fighting games, withthe Street Fighter series crowning its list. PlasmaSword, yet another fighter from Capcom and the sequel to StarGladiator for the PlayStation, gives players 22 characters, eachwith his or her own plasma weapon ranging from rifles and swords torings and oversized yo-yos.

The game is set in the future, with neo-cities, dead planets, and outerspace filling the backgrounds. The characters range from cyborgs tolone swordsmen, each with a slightly altered double. Characters can usepent-up energy to perform superpowerful plasma combos that are a visualtreat.

For those familiar with fighting games, Plasma Sword's controlsshould be a quick study, while those not familiar with fighting gamescan switch to easy mode, which lets you perform special moves with justone button.

Like other fighting games, this game centers on brawling, yet it isn'tas violent as Mortal Kombat or Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style. One drawback of Plasma Sword is that graphics are rendered in 2-Das opposed to more cutting-edge 3-D fighters like Namco's must-ownSoul Calibur. Still, for a game with slightly dated graphics,it's a solid fighting game. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • 22 characters each with his or her own plasma weapon
  • Special-effect enhanced plasma combos
Cons:
  • Mainly for fans of fighting games
  • Not as complex as other Capcom fighters, for better and for worse

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's fight!
Beilsten was standing in front of Prince.Prince lashed out a yo-yo smashed Balstein in the face.Prince then let out an energy ball and smashed Balstein. He hit Balstein with 10 doll bombs, and then got out of kicking range......
This is what this game is about.Special attacks and sweet blocks.Every character has his or her own clone-type they must fight before fighting Bilstein.A very fun and interesting game. Can hook you on and on,just trying to find out the moves!A tekken with a twist,I give this book 2 thumbs up.The game also allows most of the characters,at the beggining! This game is a very sweet game, and has excellent controller function. It also has humor, when Prince walks backwards,he walks,Michael Jackson style!

5-0 out of 5 stars One Hell of a Game
Although this game may look "kiddy" it is actually fun. To be honest the only reason I bought the game was because Hayato was in it and I always play with him on Marvel vs. Capcom 2. But this game revived a sense of pure fun which had died in me since the original MK days. This game is along the Capcom game line including the usual hyper combos and specials. So if you want my advice it is truly one of the funnest fighting games to come out in a long time and you can tell the people at Capcom really used their imaginations making it (need I remind you of Saturns "Dance with me" special?). So in short, if you like fighting games, crazy and cool looking moves, and a good time, this game is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game For A Good Price
This is a great game. There are 22 characters, and 2 of each are a like. The moves are great, although i wish there were more. The price is only .... I first played this at a friends house and loved it, so I decided to get it. The moves are easy to learn since it says in the instruction booklet. It is pretty easy but not too easy so it doesn't get boring fast. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Fast-paced, arcade-style driving action hits the Dreamcast in the form of UbiSoft's Speed Devils--only this time, it's personal. The first thing you'll notice isthe game's emphasis on presenting recognizable rivals throughout the races. Instead ofcompeting against faceless "computer" foes, you meet 17 rival drivers with distinctpersonalities; these defining characteristics come out in their driving tendencies. YuKioto's calm demeanor, for example, is reflected in his calculated, mistake-free driving. It's a cool feature that gives the single-player game depth: you not only have to handlewacky obstacles as you roar around the track, but you have to handle each driverdifferently.

Speed Devils sports three gameplay modes: arcade, championship, andmultiplayer. While the multiplayer mode lets you take on a friend in several differentchallenges and races, the meat of the gameplay is in the championship mode. The goalhere is to progress through several driving classes. Each race nets you prize money, augmented by any side bets or special missions you've agreed to perform. Use the moneyto buy a better car or improve the one you've got; all the upgrades help you win moreraces, which moves you farther up the ranks and closer to your eventual goal of takingdown the mysterious Driver X.

With wild tracks and gameplay that radiates with personality, Speed Devils is anexpansive and delightful racer. --Sajed Ahmed

Pros:

  • Weather effects during racing, including rain, snow, fog, and even seasonal changes
  • 2-player versus mode lets you take on a friend in split-screen racing action
  • The deep championship mode will keep you busy for a long time
  • Realistic reflections on the cars and refined texturing around the tracks
Cons:
  • If you're into driving realism, the wacky cars and tracks may not appeal
  • At times, cars can seem detached from the driving surface

Who would win in a fight: the Incredible Hulk or Wolverine? What if Street Fighter's Ryu teamed up with Hulk, and Chun Li had Wolverine's back? Speculate no more as Marvel pits its comic book heroes against Capcom's video game stars in Marvel vs. Capcom.

All your favorite Marvel characters are available, each one a joy to play. The Hulk is huge, powerful, and slow, while Spider-Man leaps and web-slings around the arena, attacking with outrageous handsprings, flips, and lunging punches. Capcom's familiar Street Fighter heroes, as well as a few other heroes such as Mega Man, round out the character selection. Some of the lesser-known characters from both franchises make special appearances. It's pretty funny when Arthur from the old game Ghosts N' Goblins jumps onscreen to throw lances at Captain America. Each of the battles is a two-on-two tag-team match. Players can swap characters in the middle of a fight, and clever players quickly discover how to launch devastating double-team attacks on the opponent. Up to four people can play.

If Marvel vs. Capcom has a fault, it's super speed. The action is fast--really fast--and can quickly overwhelm a player who is used to the feint-and-strike gameplay of more sophisticated 3-D fighting games. In fact, gamer novices may be able to beat video game veterans by resorting to the old "randomly mash every button as fast as you can" trick. Aside from this, the game is a triumph in 2-D fighting. --Mike Fehlauer

Pros:

  • Great cast of characters
  • Tests superiority of superheroes
  • Devastating tag-team moves
  • Faithful hero animations
Cons:
  • Cramped fighting space
  • Difficult, hyper-speed gameplay

4-0 out of 5 stars You can use ONSLAUGHT as a selectable character
There are secret ways to unlock alternate versions of some of the characters, and even unlock Onslaught. You'll have to beat the game using certain techniques. In order to beat the game very easily, I personally found it best to use Ryu and Venom on Easy mode. Use them to beat the game multiple times and you'll be able to unlock all of the secret characters.

PROS:
1) The vibration feedback is extremely sensitive !!! You feel every bump and hit that you give your opponent.
2) There is an Easy mode, which strangely is not in MvC part 2. The Easy mode allows you to use Chun Li's lighting fast kicks.
3) There are a few super moves that are not in MvC part 2. Like Chun Li's has four supers in this game, while she has only three in part 2.

CONS:
1) There is a little slow-down with a few characters like War Machine and Strider. These characters move a lot faster in MvC part 2.
2) You can not select the same person twice. In MvC part 2, you are allowed to select the same person so you may have a team of three Akumas or whomever else.

Overall, it's a great game, and I urge you to buy it even if you already own MvC part 2. I own both games and love them equally.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't pass up an oppertunaty like this!!
Intro:
Ok, who would pass up an oppertunaty like this, unless of course you have the chance to buy the 2nd one, better, but yet not as valuable as the first, considering they DON'T MAKE THE FIRST MARVEL VS. CAPCOM ANY MORE! This game has crisp anamation, smooth gameplay, CRISTAL CLEAR sound and an awsome soundtrack that pumps you up and gets you in the mood for fighting(In the game anyway). Don't Pass up this golden oppertunity, get it if you can find it! First one also available for the Sony Playstation, and 2nd one also for the Sega DreamCast and Sony Playstation 2, and soon for Microsoft X-Box, and Nintendo Gamecube!

Characters:
The list of characters consist of the following 25:

From The Capcom Universe:
CHUN-LI

CAPTAIN-COMMANDO
MEGA-MAN
STRIDER
JIN.

WAR MACHINE
WOLVERINE.

Secret:
From The Capcom Universe:
LILITH
SHADOW LADY
ROLL
MECH ZANGIEF

From The Marevel Universe:

HYPER VENOM
ORANGE HULK
ONSLAUGHT
SCORE: 4-5
(The Character Roster could have included:
Armored Spider-Man
Blackheart
Cammy
Cyber Akuma
Cyclops
Dan
Dark Sakura
Dhalsim
Juggernaut
Magneto
M.Bison
Mephisto
Nash
Omega Red
Rogue
Sabretooth
Sakura
Shadow
Shuma Gorath
Storm
U.S.Agent
Ok, they did include a few of them, but only as helpers, if they made them as default playable characters, this game would have been way moreawesome than it already is, and that would totaly rule!)

Gameplay:
The gameplay is based on how fast and fun the game has, and how much slowdown the game experiences during play.
The gameplay is lighting fast with absolutly no slowdown when I play it unless it is so little and the game is so fast paced that it's not noticeable, and that just makes the game even better. The game is also ultimate fun especially with playing with the younger kids, because the look on their face is priceless and hillarios when you pull off a huge combo with a great character, like Mega-Man for example.
SCORE: 5-5

SOUND:
Sound score is based upon voice overs, SFX, and music.
The music 1st of all is awesome, they use origonal music from origonal games, it starts off with the P1's 1st Character music, like if P1's 1st character is Mega-Man, then it starts off with Mega-Mans Music Used in the game, then after a character is killed the next character to pop up has his/her music played, like if Mega-Man is K.O.ed then the 2nd characters music for that team plays. The SFX rule, they are so good, thats all there is to say. The voice overs are perfect in every way and couldn't be any more precice to the characters.
SCORE: 5-5

GRAPHICS: The graphics in this game are so beautiful and unbelievably awesome looking, that you can't even believe why they didn't do this in the earlier vs. games. If the graphics look this good on the 1st for Dreamcast then they have to look way better on the 2nd for the Dreamcast, and they do.I definetly have to give the graphics.
SCORE: 5-5

OVERALL: This is not an average, this is what I think about the whole game, as a...whole game, anyway.
SCORE: 5-5
Get the game, unless you can't find it, then get the 2nd one!

5-0 out of 5 stars The arcade perfect version of Marvel VS Capcom !
I said it before and I'll say it again in a different way. I'm a 2D fighting veteran and I know which 2D fighter is worth playing all over again and which is worth ditching. However, the PlayStation version of Marvel VS Capcom is just one of those games that needs to be ditched, except for the Dreamcast conversion. Unlike its unworthy PlayStation apprentice, the Dreamcast version of Marvel VS Capcom is 100% arcade perfect in every way ! Allow me to give the lowdown on this game ! The graphics are far by, the best I've seen. Although they seem a bit dated to some people who never played or doubt the VS series, the animation is seamless, with no frames chopped off. The characters look brighter and they move much faster and smoother than that of the arcade version. Including the backgrounds which looks very colorful, but some of them looks like they're featured in an enhanced 16-bit game. But despite of that, the Dreamcast's power is capable of making 2D fighters look better than any other 2D fighters on different home consoles. The sound still remains the same as the arcade and PSX original. The music sounds fairly catchy, but could've been better if Q-Sound hadn't made the music too loud and too flashy to bother even the most patient person in the house. As for the sound effects, almost as similar to that of the earlier VS series, but much improved. You'll still hear a whole lot of the same punching noises and the same hits taken from a super beam or a flame toasted fist. And for the voice acting, the same again, but the only voice that changed, was Ryu's. His character sprite may be based on the original Street Fighter Alpha character, but Capcom designed him to give him his old red headband he had while he was growing older, and make his voice sound a little deeper. As for the gameplay, very well done. The PSX controls didn't do much of the justice but the design of the Dreamcast control fits the gameplay very well. With the DC controller, Marvel VS Capcom plays like a charm ! Yes my friends...it's that good ! And plus, you get the tag feature, where you can switch your characters anytime you want, especially when your first character is losing energy. And as for the game modes, you get five of them, which should be enough to please you. You still get the Arcade mode, along with the 2 player VS mode, Survival mode, Cross Fever mode, and Training mode. As for the selection of characters, it's okay...I guess. You get characters from the Marvel universe from the US and the Capcom universe from Japan. On the Capcom side we've got Ryu, Chun-Li, Zangief, Mega Man, Strider Hiryu, Jin, Morrigan, Captain Commando, and Roll (as a secret character). On the Marvel Comics side we've got Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom, Gambit, Hulk, and War Machine. The Marvel side does have its share of secret characters, but all of them are alternatives of the same character. But still, while the DC conversion has some flaws, it's still arcade perfect and furthermore, it has no loading times. Marvel VS Capcom for the Dreamcast is one game that shouldn't be left behind. I know what you're saying. I didn't really explain that much detail on the PlayStation version. But the reason why, is because its hard to explain complete details about a horrible port of a true Capcom classic. The DC version was simple to explain, because it defined arcade perfect with a vengeance ! Like I said, if you want the true Marvel VS Capcom experience, play the arcade version or just play this one ! You'll be proud you did ! ... Read more

Editorial Review

We've all seen the commercials for sport utility vehicles, and wanted tobe the one to drive the windy roads and rutted fields--our tires churning sheetsof mud from the unpaved earth. For most of us, however, 4x4 Evolution isas close as we're going to get, which fortunately isn't too far off at all.

Players start the game with 30 grand and a choice of vehicle, which includesjust about all of the authentic SUV and pickup models that are available today, plus specialized models that are accessible only to the manufacturers' teamdrivers. 4x4 Evolution follows a format that's common to race games, inwhich the player is required to win races to accumulate funds to build a betterrig.

Driving presents a few difficulties that are not faced in normal on-street racegames. For instance, even if your truck has an automatic transmission, you facethe added challenge of toggling between high and low four-wheel drive, as youlurch over boulders and smash through trees, gates, and an occasional telephonepole.

And there's a lot to conquer. The game's 16 courses run through salvage yards, down muddied country roads, and across desert dunes, arctic wastes, andpine-studded forests; each environment exquisitely rendered in threedimensions.

As if this weren't enough, you can use the Dreamcast modem and SegaNet to playonline with up to four other people.

On the downside, 4x4 Evolution is afflicted by an annoying soundtrack, although you have the option of turning off the music. Slightly moreincapacitating is a glitch that places an invisible wall in the path of yourvehicle--although we only encountered this once in several hours of play, and itwas resolved after restarting the race. --Benjamin Reese

Pros:

  • Sixteen courses, chock-full of hidden shortcuts
  • Beautifully rendered graphics
  • Large variety of authentic four-by-four vehicles
  • Up to four can play via SegaNet
Cons:
  • Annoyingly repetitive soundtrack
  • Occasional "invisible wall" glitch

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Hey, is it just my eyes, or do PC-to-DC ported games always have sub-par graphics? Grainy textures, low polygon count, slowdowns, and overall bad framerates.

But wait... if the game itself is good, these flaws can be forgiven, right? Sure, that was the case with Soldier of Fortune. It is NOT the case with 4X4 Evolution, because this game is not really much fun. Go get Daytona USA instead!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!
This is the coolest game I have ever played! It has lots of cool vehicles and great graphics. One thing I don't like about it is that Chevy has the biggest selection. You can pick what cab you want on Chevies, but on Fords and Dodges there is a pretty limited selection(for example, on Chevies you can pick ext. cab or reg. cab, but on Dodges you can't even get a 1/2 ton truck, you can only get Dakotas and Durangos.)All in all I think this game is well worth the money.

Editorial Review

Showing off the extreme attitude of the arcade smash hit NBA Jam, Midway's NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC brings intense two-on-two arcade-style hoops to the Dreamcast. The emphasis is on fanatical basketball, with gravity-defying dunks and over-the-top animations. The game lets you select from 140 actual superstars representing all 29 NBA teams. Throw in wacky unlockable players such as team mascots and characters from other Midway games, and NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC is a fun departure from the more down-to-earth basketball simulations.

Complementing the goofy gameplay is a feature-rich player editor, where you can customize everything from your created player's height, weight, and ability to clothing and facial features. With a TV-style presentation and impressive visuals, this is one hoops game that any arcade sports fan will enjoy. Simply put, if you liked NBA Jam, you'll love NBA Showtime. --Sajed Ahmed

Pros:

  • Remarkable in-game graphics, and even more impressive replays
  • Detailed sideline commentary
  • 4-player simultaneous action makes it a great party game
  • Endorsed by Shaquille O'Neal--what more could you want?
Cons:
  • 2-on-2 arcade basketball has been around forever
  • Shallow arcade play, without lasting depth or long-term playability

3-0 out of 5 stars NBA JAM on Steroids
If you're going to buy this game, ask yourself a question, Did I like NBA JAM on SNES? If the answer is YES then buy this game. If the answer is NO and you want a more realistic basketball game go for NBA 2K or NBA 2K1. The gameplay is much the same is NBA JAM, 2 buttons each for turbo, shoot/jump & pass/steal. This is a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I also enjoyed NBA JAM back in the day. Creating a player is very worth it, as you tend to feel a connection with your player. As you progress your character gets stronger, faster and so on as you distribute attribute points both from answering trivia questions and from winning games. So, ask yourself that one little question, and base your decision off that.

5-0 out of 5 stars The fast speed b-ball game (great!)
This is about the best basketball game for Nintendo 64 (I think). You can do every thing in it.Creat players, make a hot spot for your player, do insane dunks and insane shots.Make your player look crazy, have him be a team mascot, make him have an afro, make him look like shaq, kobe and much more! You can change your player so that he can be short, tall, fat, skinny, good at 3's bad at 3's good/bad at dunks and so much more.I like this game because it is fast paced not like some other games. This is a fast pace game if your are winning by 10 you most likely won't be winning by far for long. This game is also a 2 on 2 game (which I like), because it is a lot easyer to find who you are.The only bad thing (this is not that bad it is sort of cool) is that if you are the shortest that you can get (5'8") you can pack (block) someone who is 6'9"!

2-0 out of 5 stars Did they even put an effort into this?
I didn't want to be too insultive, so I put a 2. Anyway, only a 2 on 2 match and horrible graphics and the easiest shots to make and the unrealistic dunks and the dumbest heads of the created players? I'm glad I only borrowed this game from my friend because I would never buy it. I suggest you never do, either. ... Read more

Editorial Review

By marrying arcade controls with real cars, upgradeable car systems, and multiple play modes,Test Drive 6 attempts to be the driving game for everyone. The result is a fragmented, ordinarygame lacking the focus to be suited for a particular type of gaming audience.

The game purports to offer the thrill of driving a selection of testosterone-charged real cars in some of theworld's most scenic locations. But instead of hitting top speed on the open road or doing doughnuts on theVatican's lawn, you must race a bunch of veteran professional drivers around a number of preset trackswith hairpin turns. Even that could be fun, but here the tracks are missing the shortcuts and power-ups of anarcade racing game, and the cars are missing the accurate physics and customization of a simulation racinggame. This "neither here nor there" approach applies to all of Test Drive 6, a game that on thesurface is packed with features, most of which, on digging deeper, add nothing to gameplay.

Play modes include single and groups of races where you wager money or your pink slip; cop chases whereyou try to pull over speeding cars; and two-player mode. The economic system by which players purchaseand upgrade cars seems out of place, and the game's graphics are merely passable. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Great soundtrack, including the entire video for Fear Factory's remake of Gary Numan's "Cars"
  • Nice collection of new and classic hot rods
Cons:
  • Too shallow for a racing simulation, too difficult to be an arcade game
  • Poor handling cars and poorly designed tracks

3-0 out of 5 stars Barely Fine and ok!
The traffic is a pain because most of the time the normal cars swerve into you and you loose your huge lead. This game has stuff like poor turning and traction espesialy Saleens, vipers, and toyota gt1s.The only tourament I can win is class1 tour 1 because the other tours are way to hard. Your very lucky if you win the first race in class1.There are even cars that only have a top speed of 130 with bad turning and very poor acelaration and average traction, then you look back going 152 mph and then woosh they speed right past you making your car go spinning out of control.Thats messed up because your going 152 and he's only going 130 right!?This game is barely OK. I recommend SegaSports 2k,2k1,2k2,and2k3!

The first time i played this game i was convinced this is the best car game i played(to that date). The soundtracks is totally awesome and the cop chases and normal races is totally wicked

Great game. Mind-boggling superbness. Except one thing. Any and all FR cars (front-engine, rear-wheel drive cars) are nearly impossible to prevent from spinning out in the rain.
So....I'm in the final few chapters, and my best car is a Toyota Celica GT-FOUR cuz it's the most powerful car available to me that isn't FR!!! And for the difficulty? Damn. Frustrating much....but that's what makes a good game....even though I'm not able to skillfully drive an RX-7 like I'd like to!!!
Overall....9 out of 10.

1-0 out of 5 stars Kudos 4 me...kudos 4 you..kudos 4 everyone...except the game
From what I read about Metropolis Street Racer I expected a solid racing game with speed but got neither. The game favors no contact driving instead of fun...uh I mean speed. Imagine a racing gamme with no speed...who on earth could think of such a dumb concept its like a Sonic game without speed or a Doom type game without guns

Really a sad disapointment. The graphics are okay but the game play SUCKS!! Avoid this like SARS

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I'm probably one of the few people that gave a review that actually beat the game, so I know when its good and when it isnt.

The graphics in this game are good although when youre driving at night its hard to see and apprantly it rains in tunnels. The views are good except they should have had one from the driver's viewpoint. Other good points about the graphics are when u shift gears (auto. or man.) u can see the driver shifting. Also, the tires can and will smoke when they should and the right tires too. If u press start and put the tv camera on it like ur watching someone drive and when u do donuts and fishtails it looks pretty cool. Overall the graphics are really good. 9/10

The music for the most part sucks, however u can turn the volume to 0 and either just here ur engine and the other cars' engines or u can listen to ur own music on something other than ur dreamcast. The engine sounds may seem repetitive, but i noticed between the mustang and the skyline, they sound the same except the mustang has a whistling noise when it gets to around 60mph, thats the only i noticed but im sure there are more small differences like that. The sound changes when ur view changes. With the TV camera u cant here the engine but u can hear everthing else. When have the view from the bumper the engine is loud. when u have the outside view then it sounds just like any of the other cars. As the other cars get closer they sound louder. This definitely helps alot. U will here ur tires squeak when ur burnout or skid and u will here the rain as its falling. Sounds good, 8/10

When i first got this game, i thought that i was ripped off, u start of with 3 really crappy cars. As the game went on i got better cars. The first few chapters are pretty boring, but once u get some better cars the game will get better. Eventually u will end up with cars like the 300zx, supra, rx-7, mustang, and of course the skyline gt-r. And as for the people who think the cars in this game are slow, read the features, 40 licensed SPORTS cars, not supercars or f1 cars. and besides, these arent very accurate versions of these cars, in a good way of course, i have gone 180mph with the skyline, and 185 with the supra. And besides, what other racing game will allow u to drive a lawnmower. (I think i got to 100mph with it) Ive had the game for almost 2 years now and i still play it every once in a while. Once u get into the game u wont be able to get out of it. U will also get better as the game goes on so dont worry about the difficulty. The kudos system is not bad at all and there are ways to easily stack up on them. Fun to play, 9/10

Overall i would have to give this game a 10/10. I dont recommend renting this game though. Buy it and give it a chance, u wont regret it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Fresh from the arcades, Dynamite Cop is a no-holds-barred, fast-action fightinggame that will keep you entertained from the moment you power up your Dreamcast. The gamebegins with the kidnapping of the president's daughter on a cruise ship. Your goal is to rescue herfrom a gang of strange-looking thugs by kicking, punching, and shooting your way throughmultiple environments of the cruise ship.

While single-player action is adequate, this game truly shines during the dual-player mode. Withenemies attacking from every possible angle, the onscreen action can be overwhelming at times.Almost anything onscreen can be used as a weapon--and we do mean anything. Forexample, in one scene the fighting takes place in a public restroom. Let's just say that the urinals onthe wall make wonderful weapons. Other innovative weapons include a vacuum cleaner, a couch,and--egad!--even a fish!

Dynamite Cop is instinctive and easy to use. Advanced gamers will likely breeze throughthe three distinct missions in this game, while casual gamers will appreciate the simplicity.--Brett Atwood

Pros:

  • Fast, furious action
  • Innovative weapons
Cons:
  • May be too violent for young children
  • 2-D graphics are a bit dated

5-0 out of 5 stars Short but SWEET!!!
Dynamite Cop is short but its FUN. Its even more of a blast with a friend or sibling. The graphics are good for this type of game and the sound is also cool. The choice of characters is decent (5 to be exact) and the action is fast and furious. The game has only 2 downfalls 1) Its short and 2) Basically easy. An option to adjust difficulty settings would have been fun.

Too bad thet there were not enough "beat em ups" for the Dreamcast because these are my favourite type of games. Dynamite Cop is apprecieated and is worth it if you like these kind of action games.

P.S.
The Presidents daughter is buck ugly!!! They could have brushed up on that aspect a little

5-0 out of 5 stars Great! Can't Wait 'Till It Hits GBA...
...and if it doesn't, it should! This game might not be as great on the Dreamcast, but for a Game Boy Advance game this would be great! E-mail Nintendo and Sega! Dynamite Cop must return. There were too many negative reviews for the Dreamcast version. It's time for this great game to return.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
This game will keep you occupied for HOURS! Better than Zombie Revenge, this game has awesome bone and joint breaking grab techniques that are very innovative and fun to use! The plot may seem like a repetition of Die Hard Arcade replaced with crazy Pirates but it still is a lot of fun! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, Give Sega Credit
After playing Virtua Athlete 2000 I was overall impressed with the game. The graphics for the game were top-notch graphics. The stadium-like feel with the commentrey and affulent body movements complemented the great graphics for a realistic, nice apperance.Gameplay, yet, is not as nice as the graphics. It is rather limited with only 7 events.Events are also a little tough to do well in. The create a player mode and online rankings are a plus.Even though the game isn't first-class work, it deserves a spin.I give the Sega Company credit for trying to create a good track &field where most are just pieces of junk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Virtua Athlete is Virtua Perfect for the Genre
The setup and presentation is very well done.Broadcast quality and excellant overhead shots of the grounds give you a real feel for the games. You can pick up and play immediately with the quick tutorial before each event, and most events are very simple (think Track and Field for the Nintendo). If only I had a pad that could work with this game like the Nintendo... The only problem is the limited number of events.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok. not bad-unless a fanatic don't buy
Virtua Athlete is a fun game, but if I had a choice to buy it again, I would have said no.Graphics are pretty good, but not fantastic.I would only buy this if I were a real fanatic about track, which I'm not.If you really like this sport, a good buy, otherwise, don't. For those of you who thought the Teletubbies were strange, watch out: here come the Penpens. Bizarre cartoon penguins and half-penguins, the Penpens live on an icy world far away. Once a year, they compete in a grand three-part race of belly-surfing, ice-walking, and swimming: the TriIcelon. Each racecourse features all three events, tied together with a unique theme such as Candy Land, Haunted House, or Toy Land.

Kids and the young at heart are sure to get a kick out of the goofy Penpen characters. And controls are extremely simple: there's a general action button, used to jump while walking or to stroke while swimming or belly-surfing, and an attack button, which causes your Penpen to try to knock down a fellow TriIcelon contestant. These two features, and the game's cartoonish concept, make Penpen TriIcelon the most kid-friendly game available as of the Dreamcast's launch. --Michael Fehlauer

Pros:

  • Colorful tracks with imaginative themes
  • Simple controls
Cons:
  • Penpens may be too wacky for older players

1-0 out of 5 stars Another Racing Game Where Skill Doesn't Apply :o (
I'm really disappointed so many people gave this a good review. There seems to be only 4 levels (not much) and only the haunted level is worth looking at (at least to me). Each of the 4 courses has 3 difficulty settings and they inaccurately named; short, middle and long (I may be off because I just snapped my disk and I can't go back to take a look).Where they went wrong is it should have been labeled definitely doable, doable and rip off.I really had no problem with this game until I found out I couldn't beat the long levels.Every time like clock work I would start out behind, work my way to first on the last stretch only to have some miraculous character catch me from behind and physically abuse me to pass me.Oh, and the other neat thing is there are PC characters at the side of the race that run across and grab you and only you. Also ghosts will attach themselves to you to make you run at half speed while all the other guys run by and no ghosts go after them. All in all, this is a grief game with really bad AI.As a software engineer I can say this game could have been much better but they obviously weren't interested in making a great game.Hopefully this is a much more accurate review of the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun game with 3 or more people
This game is really wacky with 3 or more people. I played it against the computer and I never can win. I am glad that I really purchased the game. It's definetly different than the other dreamcast games that I have!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for Little Ones
My son has most of the titles on the Dreamcast (a few for Dad too), but my four year old daughter was left out until we bought PenPen. She loves the different wacky characters and has no problem making them waddle, hop, swim, and slide. She even beats the other members of the family at it. Agreat way to share the Dreamcast with a little one! ... Read more

There are two types of racing games: one for gearheads who know the difference between double A-arm and panhard rod suspensions, and one for the rest of us who know the difference between the gas and brake pedals. If you're in the latter group, listen up because one of the highest-grossing arcade racers of all time, Daytona USA, has come to the Dreamcast. Not only can you go head-to-head in two-player split-screen mode, but you can also race up to three other Dreamcasters via the Internet. Before you take that car out on the information superhighway, though, you might want to think about downloading a competitor's driving record and data in the form of a ghost car, against which you can develop your racing strategy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Arcade classic reaches home!
This game is probably the best arcade-style driving game ever ported to a home system. It has awesome graphics, addictive music track, and really fast, intense tracks. The control is kinda tough to figure out, but it's a very minor flaw. A sure MUST BUY title.

Be warned: the online mode NO LONGER WORKS. Sega already said it will NOT be back, ever. Not to worry, though: split screen mode works really well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Daytona Comes to the Console
People who enjoyed the arcade version of Daytona will enjoy this game equally. There is just something about the physics and the appearance of the arcade Daytona that I always liked. It doesn't have a million cars to choose from and the car reflections are not as impressive as Super GT... but the game is just fun.I think you'll find the dreamcast version of this game to be just like the arcade version, so you can base your judgement on that.

2-0 out of 5 stars Would of been good.....
This game could've gone down as one of te bet racing games ever to hit the DC. But this did not happen for these reasons:

No Damage to cars after a crash

You can drive head on into traffic get in a crash that makes you flip 4 times and still be in the race at regular speed.

Online play requires multiple downloads

Those are my reasons for giving this game a 2 you don[t]... ha[v]...e[t]...o believe me but if your shopping for a racing game on the DC just pretend you never saw this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best game ever!
I don't care what anyone else says, this game is great! The graphics are not the best but so what, there not that bad. There is
a good storyline and a lot of realistic elements. If you want a simple punch kick kind of game I wouldnt suggest this. It
takes some time to master the different sword movements and counters. but once you get used to doing the moves it gets to be really fun. If you like samurai this is what I recomend you buy. There are plenty of cheats and extras to get so you wont get bored very fast. So buy this great game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Those unfamiliar with SNK, look elsewhere.
I say this as an honest warning: If your personal relationship with fighting games starts and ends with Street Fighter, you'll be wasting your money on this title. Alternately, if you've heard about SNK games but have never really gotten into them, then you'll still be wasting your money (though if that applies to you, check out Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves for a better introduction to the SNK style). Last Blade 2 is NOT a good title to have as your first real exposure to SNK. Come back once you know for sure whether these are your kind of games or not.

Some points to consider before buying this game:

1. The game itself is designed to run on the NeoGeo, which is 24 bits as opposed to the Dreamcast's 128. What you're playing is a port, and while it's a very good port, it's also very faithful, so the graphics were left the way they were. Basically, the game looks like ... when compared to most other Dreamcast games. Note that this applies to ALL Dreamcast SNK ports - Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, both King of Fighters titles. None of these are going to knock you out graphically.

2. The game is CENSORED fairly heavily from it's original version to get a "T" rating, though this really doesn't affect the gameplay. The blood that is normally red has been colored white. If this doesn't bug you (and it really shouldn't) then don't worry about it. If you have to get the "untouched" version, you'll have to import. It's worth noting that the Hanafuda card game originally accessible as a bonus once Arcade Mode was finished has also been removed. I'd assume this is because practically nobody in the U.S. has ever heard of Hanafuda (let alone knows how to play it) so, again, no big loss for most people, but if you need it, import.

3. This game is very SLOW when compared to Capcom Fighting games (which includes Street Fighters). It also only has THREE attack buttons; punch, kick, and slash, and there's also a parry button.

This results in a very different style of play than many people in this country are used to. There are very few characters who have a "fireball" type move, and a greater emphasis is placed on "psyche" moves that try to trick your opponent into dropping their guard - For example, the character Moria has a move where he puts his sword in it's hilt and then quickly slashes across the screen with it. However, depending on which button you use to perform the attack, he could slash upwards, downwards, or in front of him. Also, the move can be held, which means the button can be held in and Moria will keep the sword in it's sheath. Release the button, and THEN he'll make the slash. If your opponent sees you make the move and tries to leap over it, imagine their surprise when you simply hold the move a little longer and hit them as they come back down! A little more complex than Ryu's fireball, eh?

Last Blade 2 also relies more heavily on timing than knowing what moves to perform, and it's not uncommon to win matches using nothing but normal attacks that are timed well. There certaintly are special moves, but if you try to play this game like Street Fighter, you won't be able to even beat the computer, let alone a skilled human opponent. The emphasis on defense and counterattacks can make the game seem almost unplayable to someone who expects to leap right in and begin tossing off super moves. If you don't have the time or patience to learn a completely new set of rules for a fighting game, then you're not going to have very much fun with this one.

I know this reads more like a list of why NOT to buy the game than anything else, so you might be wondering why I gave it 5 stars. Well, these reviews are also matters of opinion, and to be honest, this is one of my favorite fighting games, ever, and I have over 20 fighting games in my collection. This game and Capcom vs. SNK 2 alone mean my Dreamcast gets more playtime than my PS2 or my XBox.

Think about that.

If you're someone who's really into fighting games, or (better yet) has just started to discover SNK fighters and you REALLY like what you see, then this is definitely a game you will cherish. Much like Virtua Fighter 4, this game rewards those who actually learn how to play it correctly. A veteran player will always be able to stomp flat someone who's just mashing the buttons, and when you see two vets of this game go at it, you're suddenly able to appreciate it in a whole new light.

The animation is fantastic, and the graphics, while old-looking, have a remarkable amount of personality in them. Hand-drawn plants sway in the background, clothing flutters, facial expressions change, and every character reacts verbally to EVERYTHING that happens to them. No two characters are alike, so when you see a battle playing out, each character has to position themselves in an area where their moves will be most effective, the whole while trying to change the flow of the fight to their advantage. The result almost looks like an animated Crouching Tiger-style battle, BUT it's a subtlety that's lost unless you really know what you're doing. Pit two kids against each other who have never played the game, and it'll be the most boring 60 seconds of your life.

My reccomendation is to borrow this game if you can. Play it for a week straight and see if it clicks with you. By the end of 7 days, you'll either think it's brilliant or think it makes a good beer coaster.

As for me, though, I wouldn't trade this game in for anything.

3-0 out of 5 stars Now you know you're getting old when you remember...
...how Street Fighter II Championship Edition was too fast.

What can you say? This is an older classic transported over to the Dreamcast. If you've only been playing games like Capcom Vs. SNK series or any of the more recent fighting games, you will be disappointed with Last Blade 2; it's practically expected.

If you're an old school gamer that still remembers when the Neo Geo game system cost well over $700 and its games were selling for $200 a pop, well, you're going to be pleasantly surprised as the nostalgia overtakes you.

It's a fun game, if you take into consideration that it is an older title.I kind of like not having projectiles getting tossed like tomatoes every two seconds. It's a rather refreshing change of pace; god knows Capcom Vs. Marvel 2 is a little on the jading side with thirty different power blasts coming from every which way all at once.

In essence, Last Blade 2 isn't exactly for the young, because the graphics and gameplay are dated, given. However, it shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. It's like a litle piece of history revived.Older fans will be thrilled to play this again.Younger fans may be, too, if they can get past the glam and bam of today's games.

By the way: Hibiki does shows up in Capcom vs. SNK 2, and she can certainly dish out a ton of punishment for a little sprite. ^_^ ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Unforgiving and mediocre
Looney Tunes Space Race had real potential and after reading many reviews from different sites I bought it. To my suprise I found it to be unforgiving and dull. The tracks need some more variety, the characterss are small in number and there are too many items to use at any point in time. This may not be a bad thing but the items are reharshed and dull. How many things can you drop on someone?

The graphics is the games only high point! The tracks have no barriers so you can FALL OFF ALMOST EVERY ONE. This makes for a steep learning curve and may be a turn-off for some. Back to the items, because there are so many to be used by you and the computer you never really enjoy the racing element. If you win a race its because of pure luck (i.e getting a useful item at the right time) and not due to skill...BIG turn off.

With unforgiving AI opponents, lame items, gameplay based on luck and uninspired tracks you could make this a rental or a borrow from a friend...just don't but!!

Mario Kart annyone?

3-0 out of 5 stars Another mediocre DC cart game . . .
On paper, this game looks outstanding:a good franchise, the "new" (at the time) cel shading techniqe to make the Looney
Tunes look even more in their element, and the willingness to take the LT cartoon cliches to the extreme, creating a living, breathing cartoon race with you in it.

Unfortunately, it falls a little flat in a number of areas.Control is consistent and acceptable, but the hover-scooters just don't do it for me.The tracks play like an extremely easy version of Wipeout. What was wrong with using karts? It's the control, which honestly might be a little TOO precise and TOO fast for its own good that makes the game seem monotonous. The easy tracks are far too easy and the rollercoaster tracks are all fairly similar in how they are played. For those of you who have played Crash Team Racing, you'll miss the variety, the jumps and mud bogs, the tight courses, the ones on ice, and the speedy ones with lots of obstacles.

Second, there are a TON of power ups, and the computer, as in most kart games, cheats like crazy. The power ups always provide the randomness to the gameplay, but in this particular game, the near contstant beatings you'll take make the game unbearable at times, constantly stopping and starting again. That said, winning is a fairly simple matter.Get a bunch of rocket boosts, sit back in the middle or back of the pack where you're somewhat protected, and in the final stretch, blast past the competition.Works most of the time, and is a perfect example of just how talent and skill are devalued by this game.

All this would be at least a little tolerable if the game held up to its promise of being an immersive Looney Tunes environment.True, the tracks will all look familiar to those of you who have watched enough Bugs Bunny cartoons (especially from the Chuck Jones era) to memorize the lines by heart, and true, the Acme powerups (straight out of a Roadrunner cartoon) are as cool and well done as any you'll see in any kart game, and yes, the characters are well animated, BUT, the game loses it's luster when, halfway through the first race, you've already heard all five of Daffy Duck's catch phrases.Woulda been nice if they would have given the characters, I dunno, maybe another twenty or so things to say AND if they wouldn't talk so much that you'll get tired of them and want to turn the sound down.Of course, their talking is usually in direct response to either using a power-up on someone else, or getting blown up yourself, which, as I mentioned earlier, happens about every ten seconds in some races.

I picked this came up ... used, and that's an acceptable price for it.Unfortunately, the DC will die without the cart game that it should have had. It's obvious a lot of work went into this one, and it's a shame that usability testing didn't make this game everything that it could have been.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looney Toons get a little wacky!
This game is so much fun!You race on different tracks and just race on your Looney Toon car and have fun. You get to pick a player from Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Porky Pig, Marvin the Martian, Wille E. Coyote, and Elmer Fudd! This game can be up to four players at once racing each other on tons of different tracks! This game has little boxes that have "FAKE" weapons to get your opponent to slow down. For EXAMPLE: Falling Elephants, laser guns, instant storms, bombs, and many other wacky things. This game might have a little bit of mild violence, but your kids will love it!There is no blood and guts or anything.I think everyone who has a segadreamcast should have this game! ... Realistically animated fighters, wonderful 3-D environments, and the deepest gameplay to grace the fighting genre--what more could you want? Although Virtua Fighter 3 tb isn't without fault, it valiantly manages to bring all those things to the Dreamcast incarnation. VF 3 tb has always been less about over-the-top acrobatics and more about the raw realism of martial arts. In fact, one of the game's characters, Shun-Di, virtually mimics Jackie Chan's "drunken style" from the Drunken Master movies.

New to this third installment of the Virtua Fighter series is the team battle mode, which lets you take a team of three fighters head-to-head against either the computer or a human opponent. The U.S. version also sports a much-improved practice mode: you can now set the computer opponent's difficulty levels and even configure their attacks. VF 3 tb successfully combines stunning visuals with multilayered gameplay, which makes it a must-buy for fans of the series. --Sajed Ahmed

Pros:

  • Deep and rewarding gameplay
  • New versus mode and improved graphics for the U.S. version
  • Arcade-quality character and environmental graphics
  • Complicated fighter artificial intelligence is effectively challenging
Cons:
  • Only 12 characters, and no hidden fighters
  • Fighting depth can be lost, as success can also be had through button mashing
  • Lack of peripheral options such as the now-standard theatre or quest modes

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BUT COULD'VE BEEN BETTER...
AFTER 3 YEARS SINCE IT'S ARCADE RELEASE, sega's flagship fighter has finally arrived via dreamcast. but however without any real extra goodies, the graphics may be dated, but still hold their own against the likes of power stone and maybe soul calibur...maybe...

unfotunetly there's not enough charcaters in the VF3 line up. the sumo wrestler is very boring, but the other new fighter AOI, is great for VF experts. what improvements this game could've used would be a tekken like tag-team mode, where u could switch figters on the fly, as well as extra costumes and even a quest RPG mode like the original soulblade game (PSX) these extras would've definetly sell this game more, if not as much as SC oh well, just wait for the upcoming DEAD OR ALIVE 2 for DC. that's gonna be SEGA'S answer to tekken tag team..

3-0 out of 5 stars Strictly Mid-pack
Virtua Fighter 3tb is a good fighter, though one must be aware that to get the most of it one must practice, practice, practice. And like the game very much in the first place.

Problems exist in multiple however: the graphics pale considerably against Soul Calibur; the ending isn't much to look forward to; it's way too easy to Evade and also to win in single-player; and the characters, well, don't have very much "character"!

There are extras, such as a nice history video section when the game is won once, and a training mode which reveals the underlying structure of the fighting system (and in which you can choose to entertainingly pummel your opponent in 1st-person view).

So, there is definitely a level of fighting engine sophistication to be had here, but otherwise the flaws directly balance the positives in this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lacks the polish of Soul Calibur but by FAR more rewarding
Firstly Virtual Fighter 3TB lacks any sort of graphical polish whatsoever. The game is lacking in graphics when compared to Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur but makes up for it in the technical and deep fighting fighting engine. This makes this a stand out title when compared to the watered down, all icing no cake titles mentioned above.

The game is a must have for 3D fight fans. The characters are fun and the backrounds are decent and they add some strategy to the fighting as they are not simply a flat surface.

The game is a must have, please go get it if you have a Dreamcast ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This review is easily discounted:I am not a huge game player, and this game probably doesn't compare with the likes of Halo or Medal Of Honor.Still...

I am enjoying this game. There is something fun about the characters being plastic army men.It rekindles the fun of playing army as a kid.The weapons are varied, as are the missions. And if you need more challenge, then you can add that with an option.

It's fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
The game is cool it has 16 levels most of wich you have to get someone. The multiplayer is fun but could use some work and it needs more cheats. The graphicsare way inproved from the N64 or the PS1.

1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the worst game ever

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the smell of gunpowder in the air!
This light-hearted, war-simulator, strategy game deals with Worms packed to the brim with combat abilities and equipment from Dragon Punches (ala Street Fighter II) to Holy Hand Grenades (ala Monty Python and the Holy Grail).

This game allows the player to customize their own teams, from choosing team names and member names to even choosing the voices of the worms, from dialects, like Redneck, to foreign languages, like French. Unfortunately, the voice changes affect all team, and not just each one, but it's still fun to hear different voices whine or taunt.

Many of the missions in the game require time and patience, but the odds are in favor of the computer in this game. While you're struggling to try to aim your weapons precisely, the computer rarely ever has any problem trying to injure or kill you. This game is more fun to play with other players, for a grand total of four teams. There are a few missions that are extremely hard in this game, so remember to save your progress and reload your game often if you wish to get high medals in this game.

The options in the game vary from free play, which starts you right off to just kill the computer's worms, to training sessions with different weapons, customizable scenarios, and last, but not least, the missions. The missions often require you to do more than just kill the PC's worms, from retrieving specific items to just surviving the time limit, so that's where the strategy comes in the most.

The antics of the worms are humorous, but the graphics are very cartoonish, especially the backgrounds and landscapes in the game, which are usually destroyed as you play.

My main problem I had though, is the instruction booklet was vague on the abilities and directions of many weapons, so it took a lot of time to figure out how to utilize them most effectively.

The music is very simple, and after a while it just get's annoying, because it's so repetitive. There were times the game would freeze momentarily as the Dreamcast would load up the next soundtrack, so I found myself just turning off the music instead, replacing it with my own music from a stereo.

It can provide a lot of fun, especially for the younger demographic who isn't looking for any serious storyline! I primarily used it as a party game for friends, since the ability to allow four players to play, while others can be entertained by the antics is quite appealing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worms Armageddon = A Romp In Gaming Heaven
Have you ever played a game that keeps you coming back for more? A game that is humorous? A game that is filled with weapons? A game that, by some unfortunate event, is incredibly deep?

Have you ever played a game that involves worms at war?

That's what Worms Armageddon is. The sequel to Worms and Worms 2 and prequel to Worms World Party, the third installment is my favorite. Let me give a quick run-through.

The game is all about worms using weapons to screw each other over.

Simple enough for you there, Mister Game-Hating Politician?

The main objective is to strategically place your little dirt lovers around the battlefield, all in hopes that this location will cause the enemy to snuff it. Anyway, on to the standings.

Graphics-wise, this game is marvelous. The game is almost entirely 2D. The only 3D part is the little cinematic at the beginning. The 2D styling gives WA a retro feeling. Kudos to MicroProse. 5 out of 5.

Funny voices and war music (kinda) makes for an awesome and hilarious soundtrack. 5 out of 5.

Replay? It'll keep you coming back for more. 5 out of 5.

Buy Worms and blow up the little no-pods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Fun Fun till you die
This game cracks me up every time I play it! I love it. The game play is good but lack of modes is a turn off. But the few that are there are great. Sometimes game can be frustrating. Double teaming and your player doing stupid stuff is common. All in all I recomend buying it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful new world
I am amazed that this game didn't make to the top10 in anybody's choice. As to me, I can't ask for more from one game. It has: beautifully created underwater world, incredibly rich plot, demanding missions (that actually ask you to think very well, not only to swim and shoot), everything! Graphics?Stunning.

Considering the current price, it is the best buy possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Dreamcast Game Yet
The graphics are amazing, the sounds keep you into the game, and the gameplay is very smooth.Puzzles, action, plot twists, bosses, traps, this game has everything.Play it once and you will not be able to stop.I find that I even go back and replay missions because each mission is different no matter how many times you play it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Deep Fighter
If you are looking for an interesting and indepth adventure game thiscould be your cup of tea.Deep fighter offers wide and varied gameplay. You must pilot several different crafts through a series of increasinglydifficult and different missions. This game never gets repetitive as thereis always something new around the corner. This is the kind of game I lookfor one that keeps me glued to my dreamcast controller trying to get to thenext level. The graphics are just good enough with slight blurring thatactually adds to the image. The sound could be better but thats a smallgripe when other concerns like the control scheme and control areexcellent. 4 stars ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Why is there no minus feature for rating games like this
This game is slow, boring, lacks tricks, fun and speed. I rather go out and get SARS

i think that it is so booring

5-0 out of 5 stars REFRESHING!!!
Jetski Racing - A truly original idea that was too long in coming. A nice change of pace from other (same old, same old) race games. Graphics are great, easy to jump right in and start playing! Plenty of game-play options, various tracks, etc...I think it's a blast & it's one of my favorite Dreamcast games. I'm not a big fan of racing simulation games, but I really like this 1! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good solid game if you are bored with racing cars.
This game is pretty much what you would expect from reading its description, but nothing beyond that.So if you are in the mood to race a loud snowmobile on hilly tracks (where there are plenty of opportunities to go airborne) and with the occasional ice sheet to lose control on, then you won't be disappointed.

I didn't start thinking it was fun until I lowered the SFX volume (unless you like the sound of a chainsaw in your ear) and I started playing from the 1st person view, where the sense of speed really starts coming through. Then it got fun !

A couple of things that could have made this game great instead of just good... More than just 3 other opponents would have made the game exciting. One of the best parts of the game is when you see the other racers disappearing into valleys and going airborne on some hill ahead of you, but since there are a total of 4 players in the races, there isn't enough of this. The other thing that would have been great is to add a track which is really wide, like coming down the side of the mountain with all kinds of trees, and moguls. Then you could really have fun with snowmobiles (weaving in and out of trees, doing hockey stops etc.)I felt like the tracks were a little too narrow and restrictive for what the snowmobiles could really do.

Also, I couldn't stop thinking how much fun it would be to be chased on the snowmobile ala James Bond. (Or something like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit)

So all in all, this is a good game with solid graphics, I just think the designers could have added some more fun things to do with the snowmobiles instead of just your standard racing on tracks. But it is by no means a bad or failed game and it lives up to its advertising.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could Be Better
Snow Cross Championship Racing, when I first heard this name I was a bit excited. I myself love racing games and this one sounded great. To bad it does not live up to the expectations. Everything in the game just seemed so, well,so, so. The graphics were alright, nothing spectacular. The idea is fun and so is the game, but it gets boring fast without to much diffrence among the games courses. Also, as with most racing games the sound is nothing to write home about either, but it gets the job done. Control is a bit touchy at times but overall no major complaints there. It's an okay racing game, but there are better ones out there. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars arcade trills for free
Greatest Arcade Hits is a very thrilling with six really cool arcade games.Every single one of the games is multi-player and full of manydifferent exciting levels! My brother and I spent very long periods oftime playing multi-player on all the different levels. My favorite one outof all the games would have to be ROBOT.I thought that because I like thechallenge and the interesting characters as you move on through the levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relive the Humbling and Challenging Classics
For anyone who spent their tuition on Defender and Robotron 2084, lost sleep over Joust, and was haunted by Sinistar, this is a must-purchase.The games are emulated seamlessly and bear a finer, more distinct resolution than the playstation equivalent package. You'll be calling insick to work, and all the old nostalgia will bring everyone at thewatercooler to your place, sans quarters.Let's keep the classics coming;they should live on every new console because of their timeless gameplayand innovative designs which are largely mimicked to this day.

2-0 out of 5 stars No more than what it claims to be
It's difficult to justify being disappointed by a suite of games which are exactly duplicated from their previous life as stand-alone arcade games, but somehow I still expected a little more than what I got.

I used tospend hours at a time at the local arcade playing Defender, Sinistar, andthe like, and though I was able to jump right into the games again as if notime had passed at all, the presentation was definitely lacking something. The menu system is cludgy and difficult to navigate. The configurableoptions really aren't that helpful. Also, even though the original graphicsand sound are preserved through the emulation, there seems to be aninordinate amount of flickering and blurring, making a couple of the gamesdifficult to see well and play even on a 27" television.

So if youonly want to play the old games you love without having to make constanttrips to the change machine, this game is a good start, and you will indeedhave fun playing them. Be forewarned, though, that you'll probably end upwith the same feeling that I had -- that Midway took advantage of thesegames to release a quick, inexpensive, and poorly tested product, whichbegins to wear upon your game-playing patience after only an hour or two. ...
