Editorial Review What's the No. 1 group dance for the pre-school set? Hint: it's not the "Electric Slide" or "Cotton-Eyed Joe." You guessed it, and so did Elmo: the "Hokey Pokey." Though Elmo doing the "Slide" would be a sight to see, he masters the Pokey quite convincingly, to the probable delight of his toddling fans. After loading his foot with four "AA" batteries, press his hand and he performs the popular jig. He sticks out both his right hand and foot, shakes his body all about, then smoothly spins in place, thanks to a rotating platform under one foot. Elmo even spices up the beat, and sporadically speeds up the action; both innovations crank up the fun factor. The only downside: he was de-plushed, presumably because of all the mechanisms needed to help him dance and maintain balance. The result, still, is an impressive performance. He's just not very cuddly. --Diane Beall ... Read more Reviews (98)

Editorial Review While there exist numerous trainable robotic dogs on the marketplace, there's something a little refreshing about a furry mechanical pup that simply does whatever he wants to. Because really, haven't we all met or even owned dogs like that? Once Go-Go is turned on, he moves back and forth on tiny wheels hidden under thick blond fur all the while pivoting at the shoulders and hips to give a more realistic depiction of walking. Go-Go is a noisy little critter as well barking and panting while moving about the floor. While the real dog movements and sounds were lots of fun, such entertainment does come at a price, in this case five "C" batteries. Like a real dog, Go-Go wears a fetching purple bandana but unlike a real dog, Go-Go has an off switch. --Charlie Williams ... Read more Features Reviews (52)

Editorial Review This battery-operated pet is surprisingly realistic in the way it responds to good old-fashioned tender loving care. From the outside, this toy appears to be simply a lovable stuffed animal. The long soft cream colored hair, sweet pink nose, and green eyes make it look like a real cat. The unusual thing, though, is the way this kitty responds to a persons touch. Pet her and she will arch her back; gently touch her cheek and shell lean into your hand and purr demurely. If you dare to pull her tail, watch out--youll hear a decidedly annoyed hiss! All of these reactions are controlled by six sensors located at various spots on the cat which respond to a persons touch. For a child who is too young for a real pet, this toy feline may be the next best thing. For a child who wants something huggable, this may not be the right way to go--the internal mechanics are hard and prevent you from giving this little pet a good squeeze. Three C batteries required (not included). --Jane Snyder ... Read more Reviews (26)

Editorial Review Pretty and bright, orange Laugh-a-Lot does more than provide cuddly companionship: it performs three sing-a-long favorites when you squeeze its fluffy paw. If your child doesn't already know "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", "The Wheels on the Bus," or "If You're Happy and You Know It", they'll have fun learning with their fluffy, new friend. If Laugh-a-Lot seems a bit lonely as it rocks back and forth in song, however, bring other Care Bears nearby, and it will talk or sing in harmony with them--and your child. Collect all seven bears for a chorus of cheer. Requires 3 AA batteries (included).--Diane Beall ... Read more Reviews (8)
When the music comes on she smiles and bounces with him. She loves to hug him. You would still need to monitor a baby with this toy because it the age recommendation and the eyes and nose are plastic and could be a choaking hazard.

Within minutes I decided to do a little "surgery" on Jeff.He was way too loud, and I knew it would soon get on our nerves, so I removed his battery/speaker pack (which was difficult because it's tightly sewn in).I managed to get it out, and put tape over the speaker, so Jeff now sings in a much more pleasing volume.I have a feeling I'll be doing this to the rest of the Wiggles too. Second problem - the paint on Jeff's hands is wearing off here and there.Of course this doesn't take away from the fun, but I expected it to be more durable as a Children's toy. Overall, if someone in your house is a Wiggles Fan, these dolls are a must-have.They say "Hi my name is . . . " and sing a couple songs, my son loves taking Jeff wherever he goes.

Editorial Review While plenty of fad toys have had their moments in the sun before fading mercifully into the playroom twilight (Teddy Ruxpin, anyone?), the Care Bears have enjoyed a resurgence in their popularity in recent years. This cuddly Bedtime Bear features light blue fur, sleepy eyes, a pleasant moon and star bedtime pattern on his belly, and the ever-present heart-shaped nose. He also gives off a nice glow after being exposed to direct light. While the glow doesn't last all night, it's bound to be fun, and even reassuring to drowsy youngsters. Best of all for Mom and Dad, no batteries are required. --Charlie Williams ... Read more Reviews (4)

Editorial Review Have you ever laughed so hard you just fell over? Well, it happens to Koda, the brown bear from Disney's animated movie, Brother Bear, all the time. Or at least every time you press his tummy or right paw. Kids will get a real kick out of Koda's antics. With more than a dozen silly phrases--punctuated by fits of giggling and leg flailing--this plush teddy will send Disney fans into giggle fits of their own. His boyish voice comes out with such gems as, "I'm a raging ball of brown fur" and "I just crack myself up. Oh, I'm good! Real good!" as well as the more helpless "Hey, that's my ticklish spot!" and "Hello, I can't breathe!" Koda stands (or sits) 13 inches from head to butt, and is just silly, silly, silly. He'll scare the cats, too. (Three "C" batteries included.) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more Reviews (5)
