must have
this is my third year buying an airhog plane. I went from the small hand held chargeres to this plain. downside - not for young children, my son is 5 and loves the plane but he can not fly it, he loves to watch and chase it. you can not fly this or any other air hog in a strong wind. I recently had one fly away and lost it in the wind. only fly it in the summer with a light breeze but once you get the hang of it, it is alot of fun. they say fly it in a open field, good suggestion but I dont, I fly it in my front yard and between the houses and been doing ok. this is my second resistor, the first finally broke at the end of the summer but got the whole season out of it before it finally broke. I estimate I flew it about 200 times before the wing broke. once you tape it it never flies the same.

WORST WASTE OF FIFTY DOLLARS
I got 50 $ for my birthday and I really wanted a R/C plane, so I bought this thing. Big mistake. First time I tried it was too windy, and part of the tail wing broke off. Second time, there was almost 0 breeze and it took off, but then did half a U turn crashing into the ground. Now I have a "plane" if thats what you'd like to call it sitting next to me with part of it's tail wing off and white spots all over from chipped paint. DO NOT BUY THIS THING

Great Beginner R/C Airplane
After reading some negative reviews, I was a bit skeptical about purchasing this airplane, but when I found one on sale, I had to find out for myself whether these reviews were accurate or not. This airplane was almost too easy to fly! I did crash it the first time,(no damage)but after that, it was almost flying by itself. As long as you follow the INSTRUCTIONS, you shouldn't have any problems. I took it to the largest grassy field I could find and off it went. Since I had owned another toy R/C airplane before, (which I had destroyed just learning to fly) I started with the #2 setting (advanced). The airplane was almost too responsive, making sharp turns and climbing continuously (I didn't have to touch the thrust button once). I switched to the #1 setting (beginner) and the airplane was much easier to fly. The only thing about this setting is that when the airplane was flying into the wind, it seemed like it was standing still in mid air. The landing button didn't seem to be very effective, as the airplane would not descend until it was runnning out of batteries. But with a flying time of about 3 minutes, I didn't care much anyway. Once I could tell the battery was starting to drain, I was able to maneuver it for a soft landing in front of me. This airplane is indeed a lot of fun, and I played with it for an hour before realizing how long I had been out there. If you're looking for negatives, the flight time is indeed short (3 minutes), but the charge time is short as well (3 minutes also). It's a light airplane, which means it won't perform too well if there's anything more than a light breeze. Even though the box says "Flies at up to 400mph scale speed", don't let this statement fool you. Compared to other R/C airplanes I have seen, the Resistor is SLOW, which is actually a positive for beginners. Be careful with the airplane's antenna! It's a long thin coil sticking out of the tail. I almost thought I had ripped it off when I stepped on it as I was picking up the airplane, but I didn't, which was a blessing since the instructions stated that if the coil is ripped, the airplane won't be able to receive signals from the remote control. The airplane is indeed mostly made of foam, but it's much sturdier than the previous airplane I had owned. There was absolutely zero damage after flying it for an hour (my previous airplane would loose a section every time I crashed it!). Overall, the Resistor is a fun, great airplane! I would recommend it as long as you keep in mind that it is a TOY and not an advanced R/C airplane. ... Read more

Value and fun in one toy
This toy was a great buy for my nephew. We wanted something affordable and fun with decent play. The first thing we did was pull it out of the box and attempt to fly it. Well the results were obvious, it didn't fly as well until I read the actual instruction sheets. After understanding how to work the plane, my nephew loved flying it. The all in one charger is great, its portable and convenient to put away. Great deal!

not worth buying
i gave this to my husband for christmas because the hovercraft i originally gave him did not work. when he took it out to fly, there was maybe a 5 mph wind and it would not fly. To be honest, looking at the actual product there is no way a child can play with it without destroying it with in a short amount of time. I am so glad i didnt give this to a child. It would've been a huge disappointment. We have had a remote controll air plane before and my husband actually works on air planes and we're not completely sure if it would fly in no wind even.

Bad Choice
Overall the plane seems like a good idea, however the durability of the plane is very poor. We have owned two and a neighbor owned one. In all cases the planes broke within the first few flights. Very poor choice for a gift. ... Read more

Fun for a little while
My son lost his plane in a bean field as well. His dad thought he saw where it landed, but after many trips by all the relatives looking for it, we gave up until the field was combined. Luckily the farmer in the combine spotted it, about 300 feet out in the field...about 200 feet farther than we were looking. The bad news is, after we got it back, the pump cracked on the first time the kids decided to play with it again. Hence, this is a fun, but short lived toy.

We'll find it after harvest
This plane is amazing.We were getting well over the 300 ft. advertised distance per flight.Flight control is a crap shoot.You have no idea where it's going to land.The control surfaces were laughable.You should have planty of room to fly, preferably standing in the middle of a 400 ft. radius treeless circle.On the first day of flight, the aircraft made it to the bean field.10 volunteers and 2 hours later, the search was called off (and we "saw" where it came down).Black is not the ideal color for this toy.Perhaps dayglo orange or some color that beeps would be a better idea.I'll look for wreckage after the combine does its thing this week.

The Easter Bunny brought this plane for our son.We charged it up, took it outside.After it's 4th flight, the propeller nut came off followed by the propeller.It crashed.Took a small chunk out of the wing.Remarkably we found the propeller and nut.Put it back on.Tightened it and the other one.Next flight the opposite nut and thus propeller came off.Crash.Nut and propeller gone.DOES NOT COME WITH SPARE NUTS.5 flights (about 10 minutes of play) was NOT worth the money.

My Nephew Loves this Toy!
I bought this plane for my nephew, who just turned 6 years old.He has had the toy for almost 1 week, and so far he loves it.The batteries do drain quickly (as the previous reviewer noted), but the recharging is very, very quick.For a 6-year old with very little patience, he does not seem to mind waiting a few minutes to recharge the batteries.

My nephew has had the most success flying this plane when using the auto-takeoff feature (with a little help initially from his older, teenage brother).He has been playing with this toy in the backyard (away from concrete sidewalks) and so far the plane has survived multiple landings with no major damage (just a few scratches).Although a bit expensive, I am very happy with this purchase so far.

FUN DIDN'T LAST LONG
My son was so excited to receive this airplane.It does charge very quickly but the charge doesn't last long.We only got a couple short flights out of it beforehaving to charge it again.The plane doesn't fly very well either.It nose dives shortly after take off.Of course, we didn't get a chance to work that out since the airplane broke about 15 minutes after we started.The propellers don't move anymore for some reason.For the price of this airplane you'd think it would be built a whole lot better.Spend your money elsewhere. ... SUPER COOL!!!
First when you open the box this plane seems junky. Trust me, this thing is as strong as a rock! The landing button works really well, but the thrust makes it go up a foot and dive, go up, dive. Turning is really hard because in one second of holding the stick thing right or left it will overturn and crash. It never really "crashed" more like a unsmooth landing. The flight time is pretty short, the longest I could get it to fly was about a minute, still the turnig is sharp and landing good so it makes up for the thrust and flight time so it isn't a BIG problem. SUPER COOL!GET THIS TOY!

my story
I got this plane because my friend got it and I flew it and loved it(he had the black edition) i flew mine but it wouldn't fly I tried many of ways and I couldn't seem to get it to flyi got my friends to fly but not mine I repeatedly tried but I couldn't . The front of the plane was all torn up. The I flew it one last time then it crashed into the ground and the back wing broke off. I only had it for one day. Also I think that toys'R'us is asking for way way way way 2much money (40$) for a Styrofoam plane when it is going to break on the first day

The Airhogs new plane, the defender is a good plane for beginers and once you get control of it it is preety fun. The Defender is very durable. works too well
Bought this toy and lost it in two days. It flew more than 200ft and diasppeared behind some trees and shrub. Loved it!! Gonna buy two more!!

yipee! an airhog that works (very well). though breakable, the box says 50 ft- 200 ft sonny! pirty durable the flight pattern is soewhat simalar to the one on the commercial! no kidding! yet its all about how many pumps and just the right throw. first off, pump it around 25 pumps of the bicycle tire-pump thingy included. flick the proppelor reeeel hard and stiffin your legs up a bit look strait forward not at the plane- strait forward- down toss it- dont heave it- just chuck it 10 degrees upward facing AGAINST THE WIND- very important. and then hey, the plane will do the rest. oh ya every ones confused about the styrofoam- its to make the plane light, how far do ya think a chunk of plastic will fly? huh? huh? ~chris

kinda cool- if you know much about flight
hhmmm well- fist of all i wana tell you that if its a particularly windy day- face against the wind and launch 30 degrees upward- duh! the propellor will absorb more air for a faster stedier flight and wil reach bout 50 feet from your upward launch and will slowly drift back down to earth.i want to warn you that yur gonna have to ajust it alot every flight or so. not to much if you get the ailoron flaps positioned juuust corectly. i dont know about the other reviews (pollute the air in your local neibor hood? now tell how that would happen!)and this is pretty cool. and remember to buy the air hog planes that are powerd by air, the electric ones (dont know bout you) reeaaly suck! who knew! ... Don't Buy It!
Cheaply made, breaks after a few flights, landing in grass even. How can you make a product for 8 yera olds made out of flimsy styrofoam. Don't waste your money and dissapoint your kids.

It might work for a while in the beginning but then it starts to not fly good. You should do it in the grass so it doesn't break apart. It may be fun for little kids.

Not worth the money!
These air hog toys look like so much fun, and they are but they aren't durable at all.They are made from cheap styrofoam and when they hit the ground they break and chip apart.I purchased this toy and another airhog toy for my son's birthday and both are extreme disappointments b/c they fall apart.The other air hog toy I bought I tried it out the first time and part of the plane fell off and so my son never even got to play with it.I am going to try to contact the company and complain but I don't know if it will do any good.I have my reciepts but no boxes.Anyways, spend your money else where, or if you don't mind spending 15 dollars for one afternoon of fun the go ahead and buy this toy.Toy manufacutures should be smart enough not to make a boys toy out of styrofoam.They hit the ground and break.I am so disappointed.I wasted about 30 dollars on these air hogs and now two weeks later I have nothing but broken planes to show for it.I should have just bought him another Xbox game, at least he'd still be able to play with that after 2 weeks. ... I love Air Hogs
My son (10yrs) and I have been having a great time with these toys. We have 2 and neither is broken, like any styrofoam toy, it needs to be handled carefully. Using a little common sense would go along way - don't fly in windy conditions, fly in a grassy field and supervise your child - toward's complaints I see.

Nice idea, but way too fragile
This is the fourth or fifth Air Hog we've purchased, and it will be the last for awhile.It broke on the second flight - the fuselage snapped right behind the wing area.We've owned several battery powered models, all of which have broken within the first hour of use.

Our first purchase - an air powered model - lasted longer (it came with two sets of wings), but was still broken within 2 weeks.

We are looking for something more durable now - the concept is great but they just need to be tougher.

Fun Toy
I have 2 sons (ages 7 & 9) that have played with the Air Hogs Eradicator for over 2 months and still love it.The plane is made out of a light weight material, so you must be careful not to leave it on the floor or throw it in a toy box, but we have crashed it at the park probably close to 100 times and it keeps flying and hasn't had more than a scratch.I understand you can purchase replacement wings if they do break, but we haven't found this to be necessary.It is best to fly the plane in a large open area, away from roofs and trees.We have seen this plane fly for over 3 minutes at a time.Any wind gust will easily keep it in the air and cause it to go higher.We have bought this toy as a gift for several birthday parties and it has been a winner every time. ... AWESOME!!!
I am 12 year old boy and i bought this toy for my 6 year old brother. He really liked it. But only one thing dissapointed me. This plane needs too much batteries. When the plane was shipped, I forgot to buy the batteries. But it wasn't Amazon.com's problem. I found out that there was a colemn saying this plane needs 4 batteries.

This is a great toy for bigginers, even to me!

The Flying Foam Cooler
The Air Hogs Eradicator is an interesting concept, but overall I can't recommend it to others.

I consider myself a fairly savvy toy shopper, and a believer in the principle that the best toys are simple toys, or non-toys. But in this case I let down my guard and bought something that really doesn't provide much play value, or value in general, for what it costs.

Every parent gets to steer their children toward the types of toys that we find interesting or exciting. I was always a fan of flying toys, and my son fortunately seems to have the same inclination. So we have spent many hours making and playing with inexpensive toy airplanes of all types.

The Air Hogs Eradicator is on some level a triumph of technology--As a child 30 years ago, I would have been thrilled by the idea of an airplane with an electric motor and rechargeable battery. (And I guess I was still thrilled enough to have thought about it for several years before finally going to the store and getting one.) It's pretty amazing even now when you consider how such a toy has a motor and battery that are strong enough to provide some lift without weighing the "airframe" down too much.

Ah, yes, the airframe. Remember those cheap polystyrene coolers that came out in the 60s? That's what the Eradicator is made of, or appears to be made of under the coat of colorful red paint. As a boy, I was always intrigued by how they had molded those little foamy beads into a smoothly shaped cooler whose lid squeaked around as we drove to the lake. And I recall distinctly how brittle the foam was, and when a chunk of it broke off (not a rare event), the cooler was done for. In the trash. In the landfill.

We got two or three good initial flights out of the Eradicator, perhaps because we had a good, wide-open spot to fly and the wind was perfect. As the instructions point out, you WILL need a light breeze to take flights of any length. And you will need to put some muscle behind it when you launch. I routinely got better flights than my kindergarten son, who couldn't seem to get the loft and velocity that I did. So if you're expecting just to stand out in the middle of a field, turn on the power switch, and let the plane go, you're going to be disappointed.

The problem is, you could very well be disappointed even if you do everything right. On one of our first flights, the plane headed for a nearby parking lot, conked on the edge of a curb, and promptly knocked a small chunk out of the wing. The instructions suggest taping up such mishaps, but we didn't happen to bring any tape with us and continued to fly the plane in slightly damaged condition. It worked about as well.

On our second outing, it must have been just a bit too breezy and the plane simply couldn't stay up when thrown into the breeze as the instructions suggest. It kept arcing upward and nose-diving into the grass, and on the fourth attempt it hit the ground with such force that the body broke in half. Tape put it back together when we got home, but we left the park disgusted at the plane's obvious fragility.

I realize it's not easy creating a lightwight plane for a low cost, and foam beads are a convenient material to make an interesting-looking and airworthy (though not necessarily crashworthy) plane body. But when that plane snapped in half after only about ten flights I thought, "You idiot. You got took! It's more cheap Chinese-made junk to clutter up the basement. What were you thinking?" And I don't like feeling that way.

Does the Air Hogs Eradicator occasionally provide interesting and long-lasting flights, which go so high the plane can indeed land in a tree? Yes, it does.

But the simple truth is that my son and I have had just as much fun with paper airplanes and the slightly more complex "White Wings" paper kit planes that you cut out, glue together and launch with a rubber-band catapult. We have occasionally lost such planes due to flights that go too high or too far, but we never felt the sense of loss and chump-dom that we felt watching our Air Hogs Eradictor nose-diving into the ground and breaking in half on its second trip to a park.

By the way, the plane must be recharged after each flight with the provided hand-held charger pack, which uses 4 C batteries. It has a cute "gas nozzle"-shaped charging tip that you plug into the side of the plane and, when done, can slide into a special holding bay on the side of the charger. It is solid and well-made, and so securely mounted on the internal packaging boards that you'll need a wire cutter just to get it out of the box. I like the charger, and wish similar engineering prowess had been applied to the plane itself.

We will try the Air Hogs Eradicator again, on a less-windy day, and we will take our roll of tape along. But I for one will always be somewhat bothered by the idea that I spent $12 (it was on sale, at least) on something that I now feel obligated to keep and "make work"--unlike a good old paper airplane.

Eradicator sounds like an exciting aerial combat name, but the only thing this plane eradicated was--sorry, I can't resist--the money from my wallet.

We bought 2 of these planes, because we have twin boys. They wanted this for thier Birthday. When they suggest to go to an open field to fly. They are absolutley correct. This plane flies really high and it will get caught in trees. You will have a lot of fun. We did get one caught in the trees. My children are having a lot of fun with these planes and they just turned 7. When they say flick the propellar hard to get it started we did and then the plane goes really far. It circles around all by itself so make sure thier are no trees in sight. ... Read more

There will come a day when kids just won't believe that we had to wind up our toy airplane propellers with rubber bands. Hastening the arrival of that fateful milestone are the E-Chargers Flying Machines. This flying machine draws its power from four AA batteries in a handheld charger. This airplane rocks! When you fly it it will do lot's of tricks and flips. The only bad thing is how it can't glide and will fall if it runs out of power in midair. It is really durable because it is so small and the charger fits in your poket. Overall I give it four but not five stars because of how breakable it is. If it hits concrete it will most likely break. I recomend it highly!

My 4 year old (and Dad) had so much fun with this plane.Fly it from a hill and it will go a mile.Elmer's glue works great to repair the crashes.

Limited fun, a little underwhelming
The engine on this toy is great. I mean, you know it generates a decent amount of thrust.

However, this plane is an overweight glider. It doesn't have good gliding characteristics, which are important, because the engine though good cannot counteract the weight.

Basically, this thing will fly up when you throw it and dive down quickly. The engine doesn't pick up the plane and keep it in the air. Thats if it can fly straight, otherwise it banks left and crashes. ... Read more

Must be tall to fly
I have repeatedly taken my children out to fly the defender with no sucess.It just goes straight to the ground.My husband can get the plane to fly.I was quite upset because I do know how to fly RC planes.Then, I discovered the controls take a few seconds to get in gear.You need a drop greater of4-5 feet to have the plane fly and have the controls to take over.Well, I'm only able to get it about 5 1/2 feet off the ground.My husband is 6ft and is able to get at least another foot so, the controls have enough time to take over before it hits the ground.With me it nosedives.So, if you are tall its okay.However, us short people definitely have a annoying time with the plane.

I've flown mine for a few months in all different conditions (including moderate winds).It took about 4 flights before I had the hang of it.I even took it inside my church and bobbed and weaved around the tables in the Children's Ministry auditorium.Everyone who flies it or sees it fly wants one, I even took it up to my parent's house and buzzed my Dad while he was in the second story watching movies, he went out and bought one the next day!It stood up to several hard crashes before I put some electrical tape onto the leading edges to reinforce them.The only downside to this aircraft (as with its predecessor the intruder) is that the flight processor wont accept input for several seconds after launch, the easiest way to overcome it is to go to an elevated spot (4-5 feet) and launch down hill and into the wind.From there it's easy to climb up 25 feet or more above starting altitude.Happy Flying!!!

Difficult at first, but awesome with practice
I don't know what all these people are saying about how it flies for 2 seconds then crashes. Most of that is just human error. They just expect it to work like the videos in the commercials. If you just practice enough, you will wonder why you didn't pay more. On my first flight I managed to go about 30 feet, then i crashed into a hillside. Two weeks later I could go at least 150 feet and still perform a soft landing. This thing can really take a beating. I've crashed into everything from trees to brick walls and it can still meet or exceed the manufacturer's distance level. That level is 300 feet, with a mint condition plane. My plane has tons of small dents on the front of the wings, its propellers are glued on because I lost the nosecones when I was replacing the propellers, and the plastic piece on the bottom is falling off, but I can still make at least 350 feet.
