Editorial Review Beyblade tops have left the kitchen floor behind to enter the space age, or a Beyblade stadium to be precise. Kids snap a Beyblade top into the included shooter, pull its ripcord while holding the top over a stadium (sold separately), and stand back as the top ricochets off stadium walls and, hopefully, annihilates other tops. By combining pieces from different tops, kids can customize a meaner breed of top or take advantage of weaknesses in opponents. This particular Beyblade is known as Knight Dranzer. With purple and red stickers, a clunky metal ring for stability, and an attack ring with triple claws, it's what is known as a 39 Combination Type top. It scores high in the areas of weight and endurance, but isn't so gifted in the defense department. It also comes with a teensy hawk sticker for the top of the top, albeit one that looks more like a goose with chicken feet. Some assembly is required, but it won't be long before kids have forgotten all about the hidden engineering lesson and instead focus on the spinning, careening, and colliding action. --David Morel ... By combining pieces from different tops, kids can customize a meaner breed of top or take advantage of weaknesses in opponents. This particular Beyblade is known as Master Driger. With blue stickers, yellow plastic, a light metal ring, and an attack ring with three claws, it's what is known as an A-37 Attack Type top. It scores high in the areas of offense and endurance, but isn't so gifted in the defense department. It also comes with a teensy sticker for the top of the top, albeit one that looks more like a cat with a reptilian blue tail and white toenails. Some assembly is required, but it won't be long before kids have forgotten all about the hidden engineering lesson and instead focus on the spinning, careening, and colliding action. --David Morel ... Editorial Review Popularized by the Japanese animé cartoon Beyblade, Beyblading has become an official game with tournaments popping up around the world. Played with high-performance tops in portable arenas called Beystadiums, the game requires a studied understanding of rules and strategies to be successful. The Tryplo Beyblade is designed for a more defensive strategy: it has a super-sized attack ring to ward off opponents and a heavily weighted disk for a longer spin time. The Beyblade arrives unassembled and can be customized using the included top, launcher, ripcord, bonus stickers and/or additional parts (sold separately). Editorial Review Beyblade tops have left the kitchen floor behind to enter the space age, or a Beyblade stadium to be precise. Kids snap a Beyblade top into a shooter, pull its ripcord while holding the top over a stadium like this one, and stand back as the top ricochets off stadium walls and, hopefully, annihilates other tops. A little more than 16 inches across, this stadium is made of thin orange plastic with a lighter flame pattern. It has three slots along its sides where defeated tops get knocked out of the ring. The center of the stadium is emblazoned with the words "Dranzer Flame Field" and a picture of the Beyblade dragon with enormous feathered wings and clawlike feet. While this simple dishlike construction won't stand up to a whole lot of abuse, if treated with moderate respect, it'll play host to an endless bounty of spins and flips and spills. --David Morel ...
