4-0 out of 5 stars Use this in the WAVES!!!!!!!!!!
The wave is sooooooooooo cool. It's just nott educational. I gave it one star because it doesn't help you if you wanted your child tobe an artist. If you wanted your child to be an artist, I would say get them a sketch pad and a 96 box of crayons and say draw, baby draw! ENJOY@ ... Read more

Editorial Review

This super deluxe modeling clay set certainly comes with a lot of stuff, however, we though that some of it wasn't that well thought out, and a little bit hard to use. The best thing about the set is the six tubs of clay that come in rich colors: dark blue, light blue, pink, green, red, and yellow. The tubs have "can't lose" lids attached, which is a nice touch, but we quickly found that those attached lids kept getting in the way when we were trying to get the dough back in the tubs. There is an extruder with four shape disks that make three shapes each; the shape disks fit nicely in the extruder, but the hole where you put the dough in was very small and partially blocked by the plunger, making it very hard to get the dough in. There is a hair salon extruder with two bodies you can press dough hair through, we had to put all our adult weight on the bodies to get a little bit of dough hair out, and then had a hard time getting the dough back out of the holes. A dough roller and a stamper provide lots of shapes to press into flattened dough, and there are two animal molds for making 3-D figures. There is a little walking wind-up motor that is supposed to make the 3-D figures walk, if you mold the dough around it, but we had a hard time getting that to work. The thing we liked best about this set was a nifty all-in-one fun tool, kind of like a Swiss Army Knife, with brightly colored tools for cutting dough and a clip to hang it on a belt. We could see kids using that for this set and in other creative play. --Megan Sullivan ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but not the best...
My almost 3-year old was very excited to open this gift. That changed when only an adult's strength can get the hair to "grow" on the heads.Granted, it is cute, BUT also impossible to clean, let alone a young child to play with as designed. There are many hair holes that require a toothpick to poke out the play-dough. I will be hiding those...it's not worth my time/energy to clean them. The stamps are wonderful and easy to use.The play-mat is small and designed for table-top use, not the floor. The multi-purpose tool is neat, but kinda overdone and difficult for a younger child, but may be appropriate later. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not very fun....
My 4 year old received this toy for Christmas last year as she loves to play with Play-Doh. It is difficult to load the dough into the tool and has to constantly be refilled. Don't waste your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY
This toy is a complete piece of junk. You have to roll the playdough out into a long "snake" to get it inside the writing tool. That alone is annoying. But once loaded, it only squirts out a small amount of playdough-certainly doesn't "write" or draw as advertised. My four year old was frustrated waiting for it to work properly. I cannot even imagine how much "fun" it will be to clean the writing tool out...I won't ever know as we are throwing the toy out altogether. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall a good toy.
Creating with clay can be very messy, creating with play dough sometimes the creation falls apart to quickly and using other brands of modeling material isn't a great value is the child is disappointed with the final outcome.

Using the Character Creator will give the child a real sense of accomplishment when the project takes on the final shape. While this product is made for the 4 year range and above some of the younger children may and will need parents help.

The last time I looked at this product there was very little to add to the model, since that time Crayola has added more plastic parts and these parts a re very sturdy although some of that parts may pose a choking hazard to real small children.

The only two things I found to be small problems was the set I tested only had 3 colors of the model magic, red, yellow and blue and the size of the model magic should be a little larger. The other thing is that the model magic dries within 24 hours not allowing for the re-using of anything and small kids might find this a little hard to deal with.

Overall, this is a very good product and Crayola should include a re-order form with the set to allow parents to replenish the used stock. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Sticker Maker from Crayola is a simple but oddly satisfying idea. It’s basically a light box into which slides of various designs can be inserted, then traced on to sticky-backed paper to make your own stickers.

It measures approximately 9 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 3.5 inches high, and is made from strong yellow and purple plastic. A hatch at the back opens to reveal a receptacle to insert either the plain or sticky-backed paper reels that are included. The paper is fed either by turning the manual reels at the side of the machine or by pressing the Auto Wind button. On top of the machine is a screen measuring approximately 4 inches square. Insert one of the included design slides underneath this and press the light box On switch to illuminate it from beneath. Pull either of the included paper reels or sticky-backed sheets over the top of the screen and then trace away to your heart’s content using your favorite felt-tipped pens or crayons (not included). The finished design can be torn off from the Paper Cut slot at the bottom.

The Sticker Maker is ideal for building confidence in the artistically inept, as the ability to trace pictures is all that’s needed. The tracing sheet designs are mainly animals/insects, but there are also designs suitable for special occasions such as birthday celebrations. It takes three AA batteries which are not included, although a spare bulb for the light box is. The paper reels are likely to be used up very quickly--replacements are available directly from the manufacturer. Suitable for ages 3 and up. --Alison Drury ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
Waste of money. The directions frustrated me because I was looking for so much more to it.I kept looking for directions on how to magically make a sticker, a REAL sticker. It's just adhesive paper. There is a this machine that automatically rolls the paper through one section of the machine FOR NO APPARENT reason at all! There is no actual purpose for the paper to be rolled through the machine beyond "it looks cool", it gives the appearance of function but there is actually none. It's wasting your batteries and paper. You could just buy the rolls of sticker paper and cut the stickers out, all without the machine at all! What a TOTAL waste!

1-0 out of 5 stars yuck!
My kids got this last year for Christmas they are 3 I thought it would make stickers but all you do is draw on sheets of adhesive paper. I did not like it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Sticker maker. Hard to use
Its to bad my daughter (age 4) likes to try to use this machine, because it never works the way it should. The paper never flows though the machine with ease.It uses batteries very quickly, and the light is not bright at all. The sticker paper is very thick so, little light shines through. After you make a sticker, there is such a waste (of the sticker paper) by the time you get the sticker to come out. Even on manual feed, the paper still has a tough time comming through the unit. ...
