    Editorial Review

This neon green and grape roller coaster is impressive in both size andscope. When fully built the coaster stretches 6 feet long and stands 3 feethigh. The directions are detailed and clear, and we had no trouble putting ittogether. It did take us a bit over five hours, though, and it's likely that anychild under 12 will need parental assistance. But assembling it is half the fun. When finished, the track careens so hazardously, it's hard to believe the carswill stay on, but they do! The plastic chain hauls the three cars up slowly, just like a real roller coaster, and the sound effects box re-creates the noiseso perfectly you'll squirm with anticipation. After reaching the top and passingthrough the serpent's mouth, the cars begin their dizzying descent past thesound effects box, which has now switched to emitting enthusiastic and terrifiedscreaming. Gravity and centrifugal force whip the little cars along the rest ofthe track until at last it reaches the beginning of the ride, only to be towedup for another round. If you don't have 6 feet of space, there are instructionsfor a smaller version, and you can turn the sound effects off if you prefer toplay quietly. Entirely worth the time and effort, this is ideal as a familyendeavor. --M. Sullivan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BUILDING
Mon son got this for christmas and when I first saw it I thought "Oh no." But then once we opened it up and actually started to build it, WOW! I am always amazed by k'nex and how they make it work, it was a lot of fun to build, took about 5-6 hours ( We are not experts yet on the k'nex) but well worth the effort. It has withstood being moved from room to room, having the dog topple it over and being jumped on by the friends who have played with it. It comes with the option of a small or large track (we went for the large) and the instructions are easy to follow. My kids, 8 and 5, have not grown tired of it yet. Definitely a better buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great toy!
I (...) built this toy when I was ten. This toy works very good if put together right. Many people would think this is a very hard toy but It really wasn't at least for me.

    I give this 5 stars

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This easily is the best present that my 8 year old son has ever received.Even though it took about 5 hours for my husband and son to assemble, the assembly was easy, with color coded pieces and a clear instruction manual.Once it was finished, we all sat in awe.It looks like something out of an amusement park!We all sat and watched this thing go around for about an hour.My husband and I like it as much as our son does.We highly recommend this! ... Editorial Review

Lincoln Logs is a classic toy that originated in 1916 and has been around for multiple generations—it may even have been a favorite of kids' great-grandparents. While the original sets built several variations of a log cabin, the current Lincoln Logs are sold as models to make specific buildings. However, kids can still use their creativity to construct buildings of their own design. This 150-piece set features logs and accessories to build the largest ranch in the west--the Big L Ranch. The tub contains 125 wood logs, three roofs, a chimney, three gates, a ladder, a barrel, five windows, two doors and frames, a rope, a trough, a flag, two horses, a steer, one cowboy figure, and one cowgirl figure. The logs are still made of real wood although all roofs, action figures, and accessories are made of plastic. The kit comes with a colorful instruction book that most older kids should be able to follow on their own; younger children may need some parental assistance. Kids can collect other Lincoln Logs models (sold separately) to set up an entire western frontier town. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Great Play, Partner
As a child, Lincoln Logs were one of my favorite toys. You could build houses, forts, roads, fences, and just about anything else you could imagine for a piece of wood.Lincoln Logs have changed over the years, but they remain a wonderful toy to stimulate imagination.

This particular set is one of the larger sets available with 150 pieces.I think that if you are going to get Lincoln Logs, the more you have the better.I always wanted ever more Lincoln Logs to build even bigger forts, which was one of my favorite themes. The western and frontier themes seem to be somewhat old-fashioned for many children who would rather be punching video game buttons for hours than imagining what it would be like to create houses by hand, and then living in them.

This particular set includes pieces that are improvements over the original.Plastic windows, people, animals, a ladder and other miscellaneous people increase the imagination factor rather than detract from it.I initially was disappointed that the wood-slat roof pieces were missing from this set, but quickly realized that the plastic roofs remained in place as opposed to the wood slats that seemed to fall off the roof with little encouragement. On the other hand, you could use the roof slats in other arrangements, such as bridges and roads.

While I think it is interesting to build the models included in the original instructions, Lincoln Logs are sufficiently versatile and easy to use that even very young children begin stacking them with ease in their own configurations. This capability is a real imagination builder.I prefer Lincoln Logs for their greater reliance on imagination than most other building blocks and toys, which tend to emphasize a specific configuration.

John Lloyd Wright, the son of Frank Lloyd Wright, first created Lincoln Logs in 1916.Strangely, he claimed that the construction of the foundation of Tokyo's Imperial Hotel was his inspiration for the toy rather than log cabins. The toys were an instant success because they developed good hand-eye coordination and for the other reasons noted above. The toys became an even bigger success after World War II and the baby boom era.

Lincoln Logs are one of the few toys that seemed to have survived for decades. There have been many challengers to Lincoln Logs, and they are probably much less popular with children today because of the many more sophisticated choices. However, Lincoln Logs remain a great toy, especially for younger children.Even older children, like those in there 40s and 50s, can find a lot of enjoyment in a toy that was much more popular in a previous era, and still retains most of the characteristics that were the reason for that popularity.

Wild West adventurer Buck N. Bronco and his pal Dusty Trail areroundin' up some wild horses and building the finest ranch this side ofthe Mississippi. Children can spend hours--on their own or withfriends--helping them construct their western compound. There areenough real-wood Lincoln Logs (114 to be exact) and brightly coloredplastic awnings, doors, and windows to make at least three structureson the ranch. There are barrels, four horses, and even a water trough.Instructions for a corral, a blacksmith's shop, and a small fort(complete with lookout roof and flag) are included, and, of course, there are many other building possibilities, some of which are picturedon the giant tub the set is packed in. --M. 5-0 out of 5 stars Learning to Imagine
We bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter not really sure if she would find pleasure in building with wood or not.
We decided tosit with her after she opened up her present and share the memories and joys we had with her dad when he received
his first log set.She became interested and began to build. It was great seeing her use her hands and imagination as she put together her first log house.Lincoln logs will always have a place in our hearts and our homes. A building toy in more ways than one and highly recommended for young and old. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleeper Hit of Christmas 2004
Lincoln Logs are one of those toys your remember so fondly from your own childhood, that you hope your kids will enjoy them every bit as much as you did. Although today's kids seem to be so into electronic games, computers and video games that you don't hold out much hope that they'll be interested in some simple chunks of wood.Well image my suprise when my 4 yr. old son (who is autistic) received this set for Christmas and promptly fell in love with it! At first he demanded that I build the Homestead and then he would play with it. After the first week I decided that maybe he was ready to try to follow the directions himself. I simply showed him the step-by-step directions (13 steps in all) and he caught on very quickly. Now he builds it himself and it matches the pictures perfectly. He feels a real sense of accomplishment and insists we come see the house he built every time. He has played with it EVERY day since Christmas (no exaggeration) - usually the first thing he says when he wakes up in the morning is "Build house, daddy." It's also a great toy for creative play. He uses Ma & Pa to 'help' him build the house and they take care of the horses. We've been so pleased with this toy that we plan on buying additional sets for upcoming special occasions. The only complaint I have is how few pieces were actually in the set. Other than that, I'd have to give a big YES vote for this toy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Where is the information amazon?
I think lincoln logs are incredibly essential for developing young minds.Too bad Amazon can't tell us about these products in detail or I might actually buy from them.I guess I am in the same boat as the reviewer above .... heading to the store.
FYI ... target has explanations on how many pieces are in the sets, but they don't have too many sets!

4-0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to get this but...
I would have purchased this item on line, however, I could not find out even in the K'Nex website how many pieces are in this bag.

I am better off going to the store to see what I am getting. In the future, I would suggest specifying the products pieces. The more information the better, when buying on line. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Creative Play from Lincoln Logs
The play pieces seem very durable and the kit is easy to put together.Several different layouts are pictured on the package, encouraging children to try out different configurations. It is wonderful that this toy can work with other building sets.Cowboys, an engineer and horses are included with the playset so that creative minds can act out different scenerios as they play with the Prairie Express. This is one of those toys that can keep a child occupied all afternoon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Train... and more!!
Great Toy!!We have the Lincoln Logs figure 8 train, also.My boys (3 and 7) both wanted more! They play with it often, love the horses, and the fact that other buildings that can be done with it.It is more than just a train! Now if only they would sell separate train track so that we can connect and expand the train layout!Anyway, the Prarie Express is great and would recommend it to anyone with young children! The parts are very sturdy and it allows for sharing and cooperative play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like when I was a kid, only better
This toy combines the old time fun of building with Lincoln Logs, with the excitement of an easy to put together train set. It's durable, easy to set up and put away, and will give you countless hours of building and playing. My 4 year old LOVES this.Adding on additional building sets will allow you endless building opportunities to create complicated designs. ...
