Editorial Review If the Rokenbok system in your house has a fleet of vehicles, then how about an auto servicing center to keep them running? With thislarge 185-piece kit, kids create a repair and servicing area that'sstaffed by two 2.5-inch-high posable workers (a supervisor in a whiteuniform and a tie and a blue-uniformed mechanic sporting several days'worth of stubble). The centerpiece is a fully operational red and yellowvehicle lift, around which three different facilities can be built. Theassembly is carefully detailed in the illlustrated instructions (noreading required). Mr. Grease and his boss are also equipped with aworkbench, several green oil drums, a yellow handcart for moving thedrums, a stack of used tires, a fire extinguisher, a work chair, andother accessories. There's even a spiral staircase. The workbench has acompressor underneath and a vice and numerous tools molded to the top.Vehicles are not included. --Richard Farr ... Read more Subjects: 1. Editorial Review Using Rokenbok's multiplayer Command Deck wireless remote system (sold separately), this industrial elevator can lift bulldozers, forklifts, or even monorail cars right on the track. Part of Rokenbok's interactive, remote-control toy system, this 61-piece set lets you construct a 14-inch-high elevator that snaps into any Rokenbok environment. Just clip the radio control key into the platform, and you can raise and lower vehicles with your control pad. You can drive any Radio Control vehicle onto the 5-inch-wide-by-13.5-inch-long deck, or snap in a foot-long piece of track to accommodate monorail vehicles. And, in case you need a hand, a 2.5-inch-tall posable plastic elevator operator stands at the ready. --Paul Hughes ... Read more Subjects: 1. Construction

Editorial Review Something like a grain elevator, this supplemental kit contains a tall motorized conveyor and 20 plastic Rokenbok balls. Dump the balls into the bottom hopper, and this nifty device (plugged into the command deck, sold separately) will raise them approximately 12 inches and dump them into the chute, hopper, or vehicle of your choice. The Rokenbok construction system, of which this kit is a part, incorporates a vast array of snap-together construction modules, as well as radio-controlled vehicles and other snazzy motorized widgets. With a central control module, it's possible to remotely command up to eight different machines using either one or multiple handsets. Cleverly designed radio controls steer and move a very responsive vehicle using only one thumb for control and are quickly interchangeable between vehicles. Detailed building plans are included, though they are not as easy to follow as you might hope. The constructed sets are probably too fragile for use around younger siblings but are endlessly expandable. --Richard Farr ... Read more Features Reviews (1)
These are quite the cool little devices! Something like a grain or gravel elevator they stay trned off until a load of the balls is dumped into the bottom hopper. Then the conveyor springs to life, carrying the balls up to wherever they're destined (chutes, hoppers, or vehicles). When they're empty, they sense this and turn off again. A little pricey (for what it does), but definitely a cool addition to the playset. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Construction

Editorial Review Attend to any on-site emergencies with this futuristic-looking, open-topped emergency vehicle with flashing hazard lights. Seven inches long and wireless-controlled, it includes two men, two barricades, and four orange cones. (Powered control requires command deck and control pad, sold separately.) Editorial Review Please back away from the vehicle--the Rokenbok RC Skip Trackis preparing to unload! This 6-inch white plastic marvel comes with adriver and 10 red and blue grooved balls for cargo. It requires aRokenbok RC unit, which must be purchased separately; once you have thecontrol, it's easy to maneuver the Skip Track around the playroomfloor, lift its payload high or low, and release cargo with precision. The tough black rubber treads provide excellent traction on smoothsurfaces, the driver is posable and looks great inside his protectivecage, and the vehicle itself is a cool addition to your Rokenbokconstruction set. --Rob Lightner ... Like the other vehicles, this one is extremely agile, and the radio controller works phenomenally. The track/treads let this loader go all over the ramps and decks, where some of the wheeled vehicles fear to tread (also nice that the balls don't easily get stuck underneath, requiring a "hand" to get going again). However, actually loading any balls in the front bucket is quite difficult. It took me about half an hour f practice to be able to get even one or two balls to stay in, and my son has yet to get the hang of it. Mildly frustrating for him, but not to the point where he doesn't want to play with the set. On the bright side, the vehicles are all pretty durable, and the tank-style treads give this loader quite an advantage in any "Robot Wars"-style battles that may happen between players and their vehicles. [Yes, I know that's probably not in the spirit of cooperation and peaceful creation of a construction set, but it *is* fun!] Even though mastering the loader is a bit hard, I still recommend it (at least if you want to be able to tip over the other trucks!).

We love Rokenbok, and have not had any problems with any of the other sets, but this particular set seems jinxed and I cannot recommend it.
After disassembling it a few times, I noticed that the housing wasn't holding the motor securely and this was apparently allowing the worm gear on the motor to slip off the gear next to it.To fix it, you just need to lay something on the motor before you put the housing back on -- I used a piece of tissue folded many times over. This will keep the motor firmly in place when it's trying to lift the elevator. Ever since, it's worked flawlessly and my kids really enjoy it. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Construction

Editorial Review Give your Rokenbok buildings a finishing touch with this roof and sidewalk set. The sunny yellow peaked roof comes with five snap-together windows in bright red. The sidewalk, with its detachable green safety railing, is a perfect place for your Rokenbok figures to hang out. This set is just one of many components of the award-winning Rokenbok radio-control building system, a fabulous toy that lets your child build, control, and continually reinvent a model town, with people, buildings, and motorized vehicles of all sorts. --Elisabeth Fredrickson ... Editorial Review The Rok Works Start Set combines puzzle solving, model building, remote-control vehicle operation, and gameplay into a complete and completely unique experience. The first step is to build your construction site with the snap-together modular pieces provided. This is an absorbing, fun activity in itself, since the pieces allow for such open-ended, creative design: be as straightforward or Rube Goldbergesque as you like. Then it's time to rev up your construction machine and guide it around the site with the handy, video-game style controller. You can navigate under bridges, pick up loads of colored balls, and drop them off at the conveyor belt that will take them up to the network of tunnels (which youve built yourself) that will in turn carry them wherever you like. Unlike most radio-controlled vehicles which, once you get past the novelty factor, there isn't all that much for them to do, here there's plenty of action and adventure, limited only by kids imaginations. --David Stoesz ... A cross between Legos, model trains and remote control vehicles it is an intoxicating mix of motion and construction that most children find hard to put down. It begins with the purchase of the The Works or Monorail Start Set.After spending a little time (about an hour) to put the set together according to the plans, you'll spend much more time scooping up the little balls with your remote control trucks and placing them into the conveyor, where they are lifted through a series of chutes into dispensers to repeat the process. But that's not the best part.As your set begins to grow, your children can do many more things - all of which seem to engage the child more. The RC Elevator, Down-A-Vator, Construction World, and other vehicles and sets add immensely to the enjoyment. I give the product a slightly reduced durability rating as my 6 year old managed to break one of the tabs attached to one of the chutes during normal construction, but to Rokenbok's credit they have a lifetime no questions asked replacement guarantee for any piece. All in all as your set grows expect to spend $500+ on it depending on how big or tall you wish to go, but it is durable enough for most children and will last their entire childhood if played with correctly.
