First published in 1962, Mille Bornes (pronounced "meelborn," French for "milestones") is an auto racing card game whoseobject, for each team of two players, is to be the first to complete aseries of 1,000-mile trips. This Collector's Edition reproduces theartwork of the original game. The set includes a car-shaped plasticcard tray, score sheets, instructions, and deck of 110 playing cardswith language in English and French. Bon voyage! --Richard Farr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wracked my brain to recall name of wonderful pastime!
In 1962 my brother and his wife played this game with my husband and me.We had more time than money, as young couples often do, so really enjoyed the fun this wonderful game afforded.Although I tried to recall it's name and have been wondering about it since last month, suddenly it popped into my head.Voila!I'll buy 2, one for me and one for my brother, to introduce to our grandchildren!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing
Mille Bornes is a fun game.Great for kids and adults. But there's absolutely nothing special about this special "collectors edition". You're paying $15 for a deck of cards and a flimsy plastic tray.[...]

5-0 out of 5 stars A Genuine Family Game
Actually first released by Parker Brothers as "Touring" in the 1920s it went through several editions until it was released in 1960 in the French Mille Bornes version. I don't know if it was actually ever played in France, but it's been around in the US for close to 100 years.
A game where children can actually compete with adults on an equal footing - and they can play it on their own. I still enjoy it fifty years after my first game.

How's your tolerance for puns? You'll need some for Pass the Pigs, asimple game of chance built around a pig theme. Instead of dice, you roll twocute pink piglets, and you gain or lose points depending on how the crittersland. For example, if both land on all fours, called a "double trotter," you get20 points; if they land lying opposite each other, called a "Pig Out," you gainno points and cede your turn. There are a number of other rules as well as avariation called "Hog Call." This would be a good travel game (the pigs, instructions, and scoring pad fit in a small, tidy box) or a fine present forsomeone who's, well, into pigs! --Elisa Murray ... Read more

It's hard to believe that market trading has survived almostunchanged 100 years after the boisterously fun game of Pit wasintroduced by Parker Brothers. 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic for a Reason
This is a perfect example of a game that will outlast all of us.It's been around for some time, and I'm sure it will be around for much longer.

If your friends and family are loud, or quiet, as soon as this game starts, all inhibitions are tossed out the window.

It's one of the quickest games to learn, and nearly impossible to master.

I'd recommend this game for groups of 5+ with people of any ages.

Editorial Review

Looking for a sure winner in the hot commodities market? Pit, the fast-paced card game from Parker Brothers, has been a bullish performer since its introduction way back in 1904. With all the ups and downs, desperate deals, and nonstop action of an actual trading floor, this lively game offers great fun without risking the family fortune. The rules are simple: Deal the cards, wait for the opening bell, scream and trade like crazy, be the first to corner a specific market (nine cards of the same suit), and ring the closing bell. Sounds pretty realistic, doesn't it? Once you've got the basic game mastered, try throwing Bull and Bear cards into the mix--that's when things get really interesting!

Pit comes neatly boxed with a set of durable game cards, instructions, and a heavy-duty metal bell that's great for slamming. There are rules included for a silent bidding version of the game, but jumping up and down, gesticulating wildly, and shouting yourself hoarse is half the fun. --George Laney ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars TWO TWO TWO TWO THREE THREE THREE
Pit is both:

A fun game that teaches you a little bit about how commodities are traded and about the stock market, and

A great excuse to scream in the house!

While I'm still not sure I understand what goes on at the Mercantile Exchange, I have great memories of yelling "TWO TWO TWO TWO" at the top of my lungs, hitting the bell, then having someone deny he has the Bear. Pit is great for all ages and I look forward to passing Pit on to younger family members. I had no idea that this game was over 100 years old - here's to another 100 years (or maybe I should scream "100, 100, 100" and then ring the bell). P.S. What happened to Flax?

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple to learn, but much fun to play
All you have to do is get a hand of matching cards. That's it.It sounds simple, but is so much fun, and often ends with groans, sighs, screams, and laughter. If you can say numbers, pass cards, and ring a bell, you're in for a fun time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pit, 100 years and counting
It's been over 25 years since I played Pit, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I played this exciting interactive game with my extended family but it was also a blast with my church family. What I remember is that I received Pit (including the classic bright orange bell) for a Christmas gift as a child in the mid 1970's and it was the family game of choice during the holidays and get-togethers. Even at an elementary school age, I realized the playing field was level because everyone had to interact with each other.Unlike some other games, Pit didn't require some detailed strategy and that you wait your turn to play (Imagine being an impatient, one of eight players). Pit, however, is more enjoyable with the maximum number of people. All you need is a sturdy round table to accomodate up to 8 people (Oval or rectangle tables cause people to stand up and get overly rowdy, so beware!), periodic water breaks between each round to keep your vocal chords lubricated from all the laughter (The sugary drinks and Pit combination can be cause severe hyperactivity), and a pre-warning to all your neighbors about the shouting and the highlight of it all, the opening and closing BELL.I just purchased a new edition of Pit for the cold winter months ahead, so when football season ends I'll be having continuous indoor weekend fun. Every household with or without children should have Pit in their toy collection. Let's see Pit live another 100 years! ... Read more

Almost a century old, Flinch is the seemingly simple but surprisingly difficult card game inwhich players attempt to discard from their stockpiles of 10 cards by playing them in numerical sequence(when possible). Sure, it sounds like a round of this could be over in minutes, but it never turns out thatway. The original, handsome design of the cards is still intact, but the makers of the game have come upwith some additional contests for modern folk, including Flinch 2000, with wild cards. 1-0 out of 5 stars Not the same caliber as the original Trivial Pursuit
I don't know if Trivial Pursuit sold the rights to its brand name following the success of the original game or what, but (in my opinion) NONE of the other TP games has ever measured up to the first.

Unlike the original, where well-written questions were often intuitive (if you thought hard enough) or at least very interesting if you didn't know the answer, the questions in this game are poorly phrased (and at times misleading) and BORING!!!

What a shame!

1-0 out of 5 stars can't believe i paid $15 for this
Well I misread the description, and thought I'd be getting 1,000 new cards but was disappointed to see it was only 200.For $15.Double that and you get 5 times as many cards plus a board with Vol. 6.I've about exhausted my cards from Vol. 6, looks like I'll exhaust the know-it-all cards in another two games. What a rip-off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just wehen you thought you knew it all - - -
A sure fire crowd pleaser! Winning Moves has put together a set of 1,000 questions that can be added to ANY current Trival Pursuit game. The additional cards have new, never before seen questions, and most are very challenging.
For those who like or love Trivial Pursuit, this is neccessary addition to your set. Winning Moves brings together six catagories, including Sports and Leisure, Arts and Entertainment, to provide hours of fun for everyone.

The Questions will range from common knowledge to the obscure, keeping each player involved in the game. While the price is a bit high, the value is still very good for the money.

This game is good for home, office, on the road while traveling and would make a real stocking stuffer at Christmas. Winning Moves also has a Chicago, New York City and New England Editions. Team play will surely liven up playing this game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love This Game!
One of my 4th graders gave me this game for Christmas to play with my 3-yr-old son. I was a bit apprehensive because I thought my son was too young to play this type of game.Boy, was I wrong! We play this every afternoon after school, and several times on the weekend. Some of the verb cards are more difficult, but he is learning as we go what things are and how to best "show" what they are.I highly recommend this game and plan on buying several for upcoming birthdays.

4-0 out of 5 stars Real fun for little ones
This is a great game for little kids.Unlike other "kid" charades games, you don't need to read to play this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe for older kids.
I got this for my 4 and 5 1/2 year olds. It's a simple chase game, but after each move you act something out.The acting has nothing to do with the goal of the game. The acting would be fun, but my 4 year old wasn't interested in acting out the card.Instead, he always acted out a plane. My 5 1/2 year old didn't have the refinement in her movement for anyone to guess what she was doing. There are only 6 game pieces, and really no reason they had to be choking hazards.Since they truly are, I have to keep my 1 year old far away. The quality is poor. The cards are flimsy.Maybe 6 or 7 year olds would have the motor skills...but would they have the interest? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Rook is a classic game of gin/rummy with originality
Hearts and spades are great games to play. The unfortunate aspect of them is that there are no rules for playing with more or less than four players.Rook can be played with 2-6 people which makes the chances for playing much greater.A highly educational game, it teaches children the aspect of strategy and tactical planning. These skills are not usually taught in schools and are a great way to learn them while having "fun" in the loose sense.Differing amount of players exposes new elements of the game with differing instruction.5 Star Game.

5-0 out of 5 stars 7 handed Rook
We have been playing Rook for several generations, too.We have such a large family andwe all love it so well, that we had to invent a more deluxe game where more people could play.We came up with a game where we can play with 7 people.Even that wasn't enough though, so now we play high-low table. We get hours of enjoyment out of this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Card Game.
Created in 1906 as an alternative "card" game for those who believed that regular cards were sinful and of the devil, Rook is a game that people of all ages will enjoy playing. My family has played Rook since I was a very young child and I've never gotten tired of playing the game. I've enjoyed playing the game with my grandparents, aunts, and uncles as well as college students. There are several different styles of game play, depending on the number of people you have (2-6) and depending on how challenging you want the game to be. Rook is a great game for families to play and I recommend it to anyone looking for something a little bit different from the norm. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Stratego, the classic strategy game that plays like a combination of Risk and chess, is back and better than ever. The gimmick that makes this board game special is that your opponent doesn't know what your piece is until you engage, so a lowly soldier might turn out to be a general, a spy, a corporal, or a swift-moving scout. This newest edition comes with additional cavalry, long-range cannon pieces, and a brand new variant that allows four players to play an "Alliance Game" in which the strategy is to "unite" your flag with your partner on the field of battle. The stylish pieces and sturdy board are well made, and you can learn any of the three variants of Stratego in about 10 minutes. --John Longenbaugh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I recommend the computer version but this is awesome!
First off let me tell you all its not as complicated as everyone says. I bought stratego for the computer which has the original and the bonus versions lightning campaign alliance campaign and another one. Its easier to play on computer because you dont have to find people to play against not only that if you take the time to try and learn the pieces its easier to learn on the computer. You also can choose the computers set up as far as if you want them agressive, defensive, or normal (equal). This is an awesome game and any true fan of stratego will love it, but like I said its better for computer because not many people I know will play it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strategy at it's purest
Stratego is a game in which two armies battle each other with the purpose of catching the opposing flag. You send different ranked Soldiers into battle, Scouts to investigate from afar, Bombs to protect your flag, Miners to deactivate the bombs and the dreaded Spy to try to capture the high ranked Marshall.

Ultimate Stratego is a remixed version of the original. Plus you may play with four people divided into two teams. The game is more complicated than the original and will take a life time to master. It comes with a beautiful two sided board for the two player game on one side and four player game on the other (Sorry no three player game). The board and the pieces are very strong but I gave it 4 stars in durability because the cardboard tokens tend to slip out and can be lost. Its educational value is high. This version plays more like chess than the original plus you must rely a lot more on strategy than pure luck. In the four player version without strategy you WILL lose the game. Here is the description on what you will find in Ultimate Stratego:

TWO PLAYER LIGHTING VERSION:

There are only 20 playing pieces on each side. Only two bombs and no miners (Scouts play the role of the miners plus they can move any number of places they wish). Bombs and Flags cannot move. The new Calvary movement is cool. It may move two places in a strait line or one straight change direction and one more. Sorry no jumping over other pieces. The optional Rescue rule is now standard. Whoever captures the oponent's flag wins.

TWO PLAYER CAMPAIGN VERSION:

Exactly like the lighting game but you have 20 pieces in reserve which you will bring into the game as you play. Two flags must be captured to win.

FOUR PLAYER ALLIANCE VERSION:

You must team up with another player, plan your strategy and either capture the opponent's two flags or unite your flag with your allies' flag. In this version the flags obviously move and you have cannons that fire three spaces ahead (and can fire over lakes). This version is strategy at it's purest. Since there are different cites marked on the board you can agree where to meet your flags and/or where to concentrate your attack and defense. You will have to speak code with your ally and in time you will find the "code language" is as cool as the game itself. During the game you will bring in reinforcements, defend a captured flag and try to rescue one of yours if captured. Is this game fun? YES. But it will be difficult to find three other players to sit down and play this game. I have an easier time gathering people to play chess.

Over all this game is a great addition to the original. As a two player game most people may like to stick with the old, old version (you know the one where the Marshall is ranked 1 instead of 10). As a four player game it is awesome. Plus it is nice enough to display it on your coffe table. If you like and have friends that love Stratego this is the game for you. If not you may want to stick with the original or just play chess instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars STRATEGO
I am an 11 year old kid and I played this game at a friends house I played it 2 times and not only was it fun but it was educational too. When I got home from my friends house I beggedmy mom to take me to [retail store] and I have loved Stratego ever since. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Fun, but cheaply made
I greatly enjoyed this puzzle for about 20 minutes. After that, it was in broken pieces. The problem is the oddly shaped pieces do not align well, and any amount of force breaks the inner structure and ruins the whole toy.So, if it was made better it would be an awesome toy. However, its so cheaply made I dont recommend getting it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great puzzle, but be careful
I got the Homer's head puzzle and the classic Rubick's cube for Christmas.Being a huge Simpson's fan, and a tad intimidated with the cube I started playing around with Homer's head, and found that I could solve it.Like others have said it's deceptively complicated, but lots of fun.The *only* downside to this puzzle is that it does seem to break easily.I broke mine last night and was bummed out.I don't think there's any way to fix it.So, get this fun puzzle, but be gentle with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Factor
I purchased Homer's Head for my son-in-law as a Christmas present 2 years ago. All day everyone played with it,then put it down. My son, picked it up and turned it every which way he could to mix it up. My son-in-law then tried to solve it. No luck! Two years later still unsloved, with many hours of trying to solve it between several relatives, my son again picked it up, turned it once and it broke apart! I feel this toy is good for adults with the patience to keep trying, but not for children. I plan to buy my son-in-law another one since he is a very big Homer fan. Everyone seemed to enjoy it so much! ... Read more
