Editorial Review

This G. I. Joe boat arrives as a building set in 27 Lego-like pieces and requires kids to construct it into a battle vehicle. An instruction book features detailed three-dimensional building diagrams that are easy for even younger builders to follow. The rugged Cobra Moccasin has two possible designs, depending on where the battle is to take place. One design builds a speed boat equipped with rotating machine guns and a launching missile; the other turns the Cobra Moccasin into a speedy snowmobile with the launching missile mounted on its front. The set also includes a Cobra Moray figure, who drives the boat or snowmobile. There are eight G .I.-Joe-vs.-Cobra-themed building sets in all and kids can collect them to complete their troops. These G. I. Joe action sets are compatible with Lego building systems or playsets and have sturdy parts for long-lasting play. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Direction Too Dark
Like all of the GI Joe and Tonka Lego-compatible sets, there are plenty of special pieces not found in other sets. The directions are pretty clear, but do not use the Lego/Mega Blok standard of highlighting the new pieces (this may cause a problem at step 3 and others). The set also includes a fully posable figure (knees, elbows, ankles, wrists, hips, shoulders, and neck).

This is a smaller model and a pretty nice design. There are also instructions to build a snowmobile (unfortunately if you want both vehicles at the same time you will need to buy two sets).

This also includes a missile launcher that throws missiles at the push of a button so it may be inappropriate for some children.

This vehicle arrives as a building set in 38 Lego-like pieces and requires kids to rig it into an indispensable mountain search-and-rescue vehicle. An instruction book features detailed three-dimensional building diagrams that are easy for even younger builders to follow. The rugged ATV has two possible designs, depending on the type of rescue needed. One design equips the top of the ATV with a launching grappling hook to rescue stranded mountaineers from remote locations; the other positions a saw blade on the vehicle's front to cut through fallen trees and get to injured hikers. The set also includes a mountain ranger figure, who operates the ATV. There are eight Search and Rescue themed building sets in all and kids can collect them to create an entire rescue crew. Tonka action sets are compatible with Lego building systems or playsets and, like most Tonka trucks, they are built to last. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

This vehicle arrives as a building set in 43 Lego-like pieces and requires kids to rig it into an indispensable avalanche search-and-rescue vehicle. An instruction book features detailed three-dimensional building diagrams that are easy for even younger builders to follow. The rugged Snowcat has two possible designs, depending on the type of rescue needed. One design equips the front of the Snowcat with a launching grappling hook to rescue skiers stranded in the snow; the other positions an ice pick on the vehicle's rear to cut through frozen areas and get to injured skiers. The set also includes a ski patrol figure, who operates the vehicle. There are eight Search and Rescue themed building sets in all and kids can collect them to create an entire rescue crew. 3-0 out of 5 stars Does Not Stay Together Well
Like all of the GI Joe and Tonka Lego-compatible sets, there are plenty of special pieces not found in other sets. The directions are pretty clear, but do not use the Lego/Mega Blok standard of highlighting the new pieces. The set also includes a fully posable figure (knees, elbows, ankles, wrists, hips, shoulders, and neck).

The design of this rescue vehicle is rather fun with its mobile ice pick that can convert into a launching grappling hook.

The one problem I found is that the arm assembly tends to keep popping off of the base. The assembly has a square piece centered on a large flat base that tends to flex

This should be a fun toy but parents should be aware that it has an arm that strikes out at the push of a button. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Built To Rule--more like Built to Crumble
My 7 year old son, a Legomaniac, got this for his birthday. From the moment we took it out of the box it was sheer frustration. As soon as you actually got all the pieces together, he would want to pick it up, and it would fall apart in his hands. For some reason, the pieces do not snap together securely and we actually ended up just throwing the toy in the garbage (actually, we recycled it, at least it can be melted down and used for something else). Spend your money instead on a Lego Creator or Inventor kit, he also received one of these and it has the usual Lego quality behind it.

2-0 out of 5 stars How To Recycle A Cruddy Toy
After purchasing the misfire that was Built To Rule Optimus Prime with the hope as a longtime LEGO and Transformer addict that it would live up to its potential, I vowed that BTR would only end up in my hands for spare parts and spare parts only.So I simply took one glance at Hot Shot's instructions to verify my misgivings - again, you have to build it in one mode and tear it apart and rebuild it in another, not to mention the fact that the bricks do not bind properly (having to build and rebuild defeats the purpose of calling this chunk of plastic a Transformer - more like a pain in the butt that I wouldn't put my worst enemy's kid through). So I just tinkered with Hot Shot's parts and those of a LEGO Creator Land Busters set, and a few dabs of model glue here and there, to make a figure of Bumblebee as he appears in his WWII motorbike-and-sidecar form in Dreamwave Comics' new Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover book. That challenge and that alone makes this toy worth my money. If you're not up to such an adventure - particularly if you just want this as a gift for your kid - I'd advise you to save your money for a REAL Transformer toy. ... Editorial Review

The GI Joe team always seems to have a much more generous budget available to it than their arch nemesis, the nefarious but constantly defeated COBRA team. Case in point: this impressive assault unit that is actually three vehicles in one. It can be separated into what appears to be a military dune buggy along with a mobile satellite station for relaying key information on COBRA's whereabouts. Combine the two vehicles into the Armadillo: a huge, heavily armored unit featuring a pair of spring loaded missiles. Generously, the Armadillo features one gun that pops off when impacted (we suspect they put that in just to make the overmatched COBRA feel better about themselves). An action figure of Joe team member Duke is included. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lego Nut....Finds something new!!!! BTR?
WOW, WHAT ADEAL!.Being a Lego Nut...I was very impressed with the over-all scale you get for this price!Great looking GI joe vehicle...reminds me of the true "old school" GI JOE vehicles in the 80's.Aaaaaa...remember that?? 19.99 for a vehicle that measures over a foot long that comes with a 4 dollar GI JOE figure! Also...they tell you how to build other vehicles, which is pretty cool. Will buy more!

2-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating for my sons!
As the picture shows, but doesn't say, this is a "lego" imitation, not an actual vehicle.

It was easy for my son to put it together in a 1/2 hour, but for the past 2 days, it has fallen apart each time he pushes it, which brings him to frustrating tears! I think we'll have to glue the entire vehicle together!

I'm thinking of returning it and the other one I bought that hasn't come in yet. I thought they were regular vehicles, but apparently "built to rule" is the imitation Lego name.

Save your money.. I think the 3 stars I gave it was too high of a rating. ... Read more
