Editorial Review

Howard Hughes meets Skunkworks! The Air Hogs RC Skywinder is a high-flying silver airplane designed to loop the loop, climb, dive, bank right or left, or sidewind. A six-function radio controller allows players to command the stunts from terra firma. Made of high-density EPP foam and plastic, the sleek airplane has a military look about it, although its fun-giving capacity belies the serious image. Kids (and let's be honest, grownups, too!) launch the 19x18-inch airplane into the wild blue yonder, press the thrust button on the controller to allow the plane to climb, then wait until it reaches a minimum altitude of 30 to 50 feet (depending on the intended stunt). At this point, the sky (and the battery charge) is the limit. Slight movements of the toggle switch or thrust button guide the skywinder in any direction, allowing for inverse or regular loops, sidewinders, and more, up to heights of 100 feet. Includes stunt plane, controller, charger/display stand/trainer (for indoor training), two extra propellers, and one tool (for adjustments and propeller replacement). Six AA batteries required (not included). No assembly required. --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
The Easter Bunny brought this plane for our son.We charged it up, took it outside. After it's 4th flight, the propeller nut came off followed by the propeller. It crashed.Took a small chunk out of the wing.Remarkably we found the propeller and nut.Put it back on.Tightened it and the other one.Next flight the opposite nut and thus propeller came off.Crash.Nut and propeller gone.DOES NOT COME WITH SPARE NUTS.5 flights (about 10 minutes of play) was NOT worth the money.

Editorial Review

Edward is a cheerful blue worker train. Hauling coal, helping the big guys, hanging out in the train yard--this friendly fellow's goal in life is to be a really useful engine. This 3-inch sturdy wood engine and the accompanying 2-inch cargo car will surely get the job done every time. Based on the popular Thomas the Tank Engine series by Reverend W. Awdry and the PBS television show Shining Time Station, the wooden railway system is compatible with other magnetic train sets. You can reenact all the exciting stories in the series or make up new ones. Thomas fans won't want to miss out on any of these fun, well-built railway characters. --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kind old Edward still works perfectly
I know Edward is old and my train sure is but he can still pull trains likje the big engines. His magnet is in perfect working order and he can pull a couple coaches without trouble at all. A cool thing about Edward and all the other tender engines is that little kids love to take the tender on and off. I thinks it's so funny when they do that. Edward really works well and he's capable of hours of enjoyment at a time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one's for the kids- all the kids!
This is a great toy that all the kids I know just love to play with! It's always enjoyable to play with trains, especially ones with familiar faces. Also, this toy is very durable.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun, Durable Toy
Edward the Blue Engine is a well-built toy that can stand up to demanding play.My son recently received Edward as a bonus item included with a Thomas video and he loves it.The attention to detail is excellent, and the strong wooden construction will assure many hours of enjoyable play.Edward's bright smile will also make playtime a happy time. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I've been viewing the websites for trains sets for my daughter for a while. I've came accross this Deluxe Train Trach Pack 31 Pieces for $34.99.Don't waste your money. This doesn't come with anything.I went to Wal-Mart bought the Kids Connection Brand 60 Pcs. Wooden Train Set, the tracks are double sided so you can Rearrange pieces to create different train routes, comes with trains, bridges, buildings, sings, and more. For the price of $14.88.$34,99 is definetly a rip-off according to some reviews I've read. Check WalMart.com or just go there in person.Do your homework first before dishing out the cash!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Less expensive way to build your train sets but...
Whenever I can save money by buying these sets instead of the Thomas name brand I do it, because the Thomas stuff can be pricey. Most of the pieces here are of nice quality, and they've held up to play very well. However, the turntable piece shown with this set is a good deal smaller than the Thomas piece of similar design, and some of the larger trains, such as Gordon or Diesel 10 do not fit. Also, the track pieces, although of good quality, are not double-sided like the name brand track.I'm not sorry I bought this, but in the long run it didn't save me money since now I'm buying the Thomas peices to replace some of these.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOOK AT THE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS BEFORE PURCHASE
As you may read in a review below, the featured photo shows more track pieces than the 31 in this set.Click above to see the actual photo of the pieces included.

This set would cost you at least $60 for the Learning Curve (Thomas) brand, and these work just as well.I suggest getting the construction set, which includes (11) 3 1/12" curved pieces, and the expansion set, which gets you a few more straight pieces, and the 6 1/12" switch track pieces. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The boy who has everything!
Our 3 year old has so much that sometimes it seems like nothing keeps his interest for long. This little tin drum keeps him busy and feeling like he is in his own marching band!Cute as anything, we love watching him walk around holding this tiny tin drum around his neck and going to town on it.Great gift!It was a little smaller than I anticipated, would of liked the strap to be a little longer to go around his neck, but not a big deal, he doesn't seem to mind?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great drum for your little drummer boy....
We bought this drum for our (now) 3 1/2 year old son about a year ago. He LOVED it!!! He played it every day, but after awhile, the drum head got a lot of little dents in it and it eventually just caved in. But, a year's worth of fun and music is well worth (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Super cute, super fun!
We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old Thomas fan. It's really cute and rather reasonably priced. My son loves to bang on his drum, and dance around the living room. He plays it quite often and we've had it for about 6 months, so far we've had absolutely NO problems with the drum falling apart or getting dented up like some of the other reviews have mentioned. 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun but the connectors are odd
My four year old really enjoys playing with this. There are five stand alone plastic sheds that you assemble (two sides and a roof) and then place over the track in the same manner that a tunnel goes over the track. There are five buffers that snap onto the back of the track and then each track connects to the turntable. The turntable has a crank that is easy for a child to turn.It also has a Y track that would connect into an existing set. This doesn't come with any trains or additional track.

I am only giving this four stars because the turntable is configured for four "standard" track connectors and six "diamond shape" track connectors. My son has a lot of the Tomy track and none of it has this "diamond shape" connector. If you try really hard you can jam a standard shape connector into a diamond connector, but I don't understand why all of the connectors on the turntable wouldn't be the standard shape. The track that is included for the sheds has three diamond and two standard connectors so you can connect all the sheds. But the remaining five connectors are three diamond and two standard.

Note, this is not compatible with the wooden track. You need to use the blue Tomy plastic track with this turntable.

In summary, my son really likes this, and it is a lot of fun for the money so I recommend it.I just wish that all of the connections were standard. ... Read more

Sir Topham Hatt and his equally robust consort are perky and colorful.Sir Topham Hatt wearshis trademark topper, gray flannels, and a black tailcoat with a rather smart yellow waistcoat; his wifesports a green skirt and a sensible sky blue blouse with lace collar.Their wooden heads sit on top of plasticbodies with movable arms. The legs also move (both together) so that either figure can be seated.Anyrebellious type over the age of 4 is going to find the large Phillips screw in the back of each figure too hardto resist, so early dismemberment is a distinct possibility. But these figures are a lot more lifelike than thetwo-dimensional wooden cutouts that come with many Thomas sets. The box claims they are 3 incheshigh, but they actually measure just under 2.5 inches. --Richard Farr ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Hatts
The Sir Topham and Lady Hatt figures are quite basic, with the face being a painted wooden sphere. The arms are movable, but they're pretty stiff.

Kids probably won't mind the lack of detail, especially since the characters in the Thomas videos aren't exactly crafted with fine details, either.

A nice addition for kids who love the whole Thomas the Tank Engine series of books, trains, and videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thomas & Friends - Train Set
Bought this for my son for Christmas he is Four Years Old. He loved it. Setup was a snap (sorry no pun intended) only took 5 minutes. Only needs one AA battery goes in Thomas (just pull middle wheels down and lift off the top carriage).

The bridge is great, there is a switch to stop the train at the station and two props (tree and signal light). This set is extendable if you decide to do so in the future, which is great.

Recommend it, best train set for around (...).

5-0 out of 5 stars Thomas Train a Really Useful and FUN Engine
This Thomas the Train set is a huge hit with the 3 kids in our house: my girls, ages 2 and 4, and my husband! The interlocking track is easy enough for my youngest daughter to attach (and detach, which she prefers to do).The trains run on the track, on the floor, and even the carpet (slowly). The drawbridge works like a charm. My oldest loves the lever to stop one train (usually to cause a wreck with another oncoming train). The set comes with Thomas and cars Annie and Clarabel.Toys R Us had a sale, so we also bought a Percy, Gordon, and James. It's a good thing we did!Christmas Day my husband had trouble releasing the catch to install the batteries in Thomas and Percy. The instructions (graphics only, no words) were no help at all.Fortunately the batteries in Gordon and James are easily installed into their coal cars.We took the Thomas and Percy back to the store for help.We like this set so much we plan to buy additional track.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hundreds of Hours of Fun
My 7-year old son still continues to play with this set and all the other related Thomas sets we have.We started collecting these pieces when he was 3 years old. He's been able to put this track together in so many different ways with little or no help from the start. He has a huge toybox full of this train set now. After 4 years, 2 of our 3 bridges broke after being stepped on.We have glued one back together and now it works just fine.None of the bridges have their sides anymore, but the trains work just fine and stay on the tracks very well.Only one piece of track has ever broken, which says a lot for it's durability. You have to be a little careful with the trains with the tenders, i.e. attached second car, like Gordon, Henry, etc.(Not included in this set). The batteries are placed in the tender and 2 wires connect the train front to the tender. If these wires get pulled roughly, the train will no longer work.As I said though, we've had this set for over 4 years and only lost a handful of trains. My son no longer watches Thomas videos or cares to spend a "Day out with Thomas", but he continues to play with this train set and ask for the newest pieces for Christmas and birthdays. We don't mind buying them either. It's a worthwhile gift to buy as it is durable and gets a lot of use. ... When Thomas the Tank Engine and friends get dirty after a long day's work, they can headstraight for the Sodor Engine Wash. Just drive the engines up to the building, turn the large red knob on the roof, and the blue foam grips will pull the engines through the wash in either direction. 4-0 out of 5 stars Preston's Mommy and #1 Play Pal
My son loves to play with the Thomas the Tank Engine wooden track and vehicles-he is 2 1/2 and makes believe that Percy gets all dirty (like in the video) and drives him through the engine wash. He is very creative when playing with his Thomas toys and keeps him busy for hours. The colors are bright and with the numbers on the engines, he is very eager to count and they have also helped with learning his colors!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to my son's collection, he loves it!
My son is 4 and 3/4 years old, and received the engine wash for his third birthday. He has had no difficulty operating it, and it is holding up wonderfully. The foam wash rollers look just like new after having countless trains run through them. There are a few pieces that may get caught up a bit but it's quite easy to release them by giving them a little push from behind.

The same engine wash is part of the local toy store's set, which obviously gets tons of wear.It is holding up very well, and is clearly a favorite of the children who sample it at the store.

I would highly recommend this piece to any Thomas enthusiast age 3 and up.I can imagine it may be challenging for a younger toddler to operate it, but it isn't intended for that age anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun

4-0 out of 5 stars its aot of fun
we bought this toy 2 months ago for my 4 year old son, granted we dont read instructions anyhow so we didnt have a problem with them, but i did put the arm on the wrong side and didnt figure that out till i read the instructions---so they were helpful to me. i got the arm out put it on the right side and then i was done. my 4 year old son couldnt hit the monster so his head would fall off so we readjusted the heigth of the jump and he did it, not only did he do it but our 1 yr 16 months old son could do it too. my kids love it, and see who can get the head to fly off the most. they also use their hotwheels cars on it. i guess for most toys you have to know how to play with them and keep trying and you will get it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad for 4 year olds

Editorial Review

Kids may remember Bertie the Bus as Thomas the Tank Engine's worthy opponent in a race where the two become good pals. At least that's how this 3.5-inch-long, bright red, fresh-faced bus appears in one of W. Awdry's preschooler books, Thomas and Bertie. Now kids can include Bertie in their Thomas Wooden Railway System, a creative assemblage of sturdy vehicles, tracks, and scenery all based on the popular Thomas the Tank Engine book, television, and video series. As a bus, Bertie travels separately from most of the system's train-car characters. But he's always greeted as a welcome friend at railway crossings or station parking lots. Like all parts of this high-quality toy system, Bertie carries a lifetime warranty. --Joan DeClaire ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Let's have a race!
Now you can own Bertie the bus, Thomas' loyal friend who has always been there to help. Thomas first met Bertie when he got stuck in the snow. Terence came to rescue Thomas and Bertie came to pick up Thomas' passengers. The next time Thomas and Bertie met, Bertie challenged Thomas to a race. If you haven't seen that story, I will not tell you who won, but you can find that story on a lot of Thomas tapes. The only bad thing about this toy is that it doesn't have any magnets or anything but I guess your child will just have to use his/her imagination.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as fun as others
Bertie is nice to have but my son barely plays with it. It won't attach to anything else, no magnets. Like another review says, it doesn't go well on the tracks, even the the road side of the dual purpose tracks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool, fast, fun, durable
I recently purchased the Nikko Viper GTS-R and was fairly pleased with it. I have several other Nikko R/C products and they continue to please me. Here is a general description of the car.
A red, new model Viper body made of Lexan plastic with silver racing stripes and plenty of decals. The body is 18 inches long and is vacuum formed with an attached functional-looking spoiler and transparent windshield and windows. The body is secured to the chassis by 4 easily removable pins. The car runs on a 7.2-volt NiCAD battery pack that charges in 3-4 hours and can reach speeds up to 20 mph on swept, unbroken pavement. It has white, 5-spoke plastic wheels secured Formula-One style with a single nut and comes with a tool to easily remove them (I personally didn't like the color of the wheels so I re-painted them with some model paint). The tires are soft rubber with foam underneath to provide good traction with out a need to inflate. The chassis is complete with a large, sturdy bumper concealed by the body; a diffuser in the rear; and 4 wheel, independent wishbone suspension complete with springs, shocks, and sway bar. The Mabuchi motor is easily removed for replacement or upgrades and has an interchangeable crystal to change the radio frequency for racing with other cars. All of the components are covered by sturdy plastic making up the chassis.
The car comes mostly assembled and is ready to drive in minutes (minus battery charge time). It has a range of about 100-150 feet, depending on the location, weather conditions, other frequencies, etc. The car has plenty of torque and will do donuts, burnouts, peelouts and all of that good stuff with ease on smooth surfaces like hardwood floors, tile, SMOOOOOOOTH concrete, and sometimes carpet. I do not recommend running the car on long carpet, nothing more than a centimeter really; although it can handle it, it will tend to get a lot of carpet fibers in the axles and you might have to take the rear wheels off to get it out (along with dog/cat hair). This isn't a serious problem, as it doesn't happen very much and is easy to clean out. I have run the car on pretty much all surfaces, including grass, light gravel, mulch, etc. and it does pretty well. I mostly drive it on the street, but it is important to not turn it to sharply at high speeds or it might flip. I have heard some people say that they crashed it and the steering messed up, but they must have driven it headlong into a brick wall at 15 to 20 mph to hurt it, because I have had a fair share of crashes and it works like new. One thing to watch out for is driving it up curbs. You must take it slowly and at an angle or you will grind down the plastic of the body on the pavement. I have a few complaints however. I do not really like the controller format. It works fine, but I would prefer the rectangular type of layout. Also, the steering trim isn't very accurate. The car tends to very slightly veer one direction, so you change the trim to compensate, and it might go straight, but it also might start veering slightly in the other direction. Nothing that serious, but it sometimes gets hard to control at high speeds.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
*Fairly fast. Faster than all of the other Nikko, Tyco, etc. cars anyway.
*Looks good. Viper body very stylish and comes with plenty of stickers, though some need to be cut out. (You might notice that the back bumper goes down fairly far and looks awkward, but that is actually supposed to be cut off from the body with scissors. They just didn't do it for the pictures)
*Durable. Nothing has broken on mine yet. Has a lexan body (what the high end r/c cars use)
*Suspension and digitally proportional speed/steering make a realistic drive

Cons:
*A little touchy at high speeds, but that is to be expected
*Trim controls inaccurate
*Long charge times. 3-4 hours for complete charge

Overall, this is a pretty good car. I don't recommend it for racing at professional r/c tracks, as it isn't the fastest thing out there. One thing to note is the NiCD (Nickel Cadmium) battery. It is STRONGLY recommended that you run it down till there is absolutely no power left before recharging, and do not charge it partially or over charge it. These habits will shorten the life of a NiCD battery. Strangely enough, none of these things are written in the manual. Oh well. Now you know.
In the end, this car is merely a toy. It goes 20 miles per hour. The fastest electrics go 40. The nitro's go 30-60. The kind you can get at hobby shops that run on gasoline go 80. It isn't the fastest car around, although I suppose it is sort of the beginner level of the advanced cars. Don't get this for anyone who doesn't have fairly good skills with R/C cars. I mean it. If you give this to a 9 year old, he will probably either flip it, crash it into a wall, or get it run over by a car. Something to consider. Anyway, I hope this has helped.Happy shopping

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Car
This car is really fast and durable. It runs about 30 minutes on a full charge. It easily goes 20 mph. My dad and brothers have crashed it at full speed and it still runs perfectly. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This charging battery pack works with the NIKKO 9.6-volt cassette and will "charge up to1,000" times, according to the packaging. It works with the battery cassettes needed for the NIKKO radiocontrol vehicles and has a one-year limited warranty attached. The battery pack boasts a quick chargecapability, but still takes four hours to juice up your cassette. The cassette is shipped uncharged, socharging it is your first bit of business upon opening, not just plugging it into your vehicle.Remember, patience is a virtue. --Keith Simanton ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 9.6v Charger And Battery
This Charger Is A Great Buy. Only $... And You Can Charge It Up To 1,000 Times. To Get All Those Charges, Though, You Shouldn't Charge It More Than 4 Hours And You Shouldn't Put In The Charger When It's Still Warm Or Not Used All The Way. It Is Always Best To Buy Atleast 2 Of These Batteries Because They Last 15-20 Min. Each Charge, So With 2 You Get 40 Min. Run Time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two batteries makes it all the better!
When you have two batteries it's so much fun because when you're finish having a blast for a half and hour you can do it a whole other half and hour!So make sure to have two!One more thing that's cool even though it takes a long time to charge if you have two you can kind of cut the time in half!So I'd recommend buying two cause two makes it all the more fun! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great little train!
We bought this train along with the video, James and the Red Balloon and our little one just loves it.He particularly likes the battery operated ones the best and just has a blast playing with James. It works beautifully, and is quite durable. He gets drug all over the place and keeps coming back for more. Plus, he doesn't chew up batteries the way our Brio trains do.Great toy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well made, but only goes forward, not back
As are all the Thomas & Friends wooden train toys, this is a very solid toy, built-to-last, although the battery powered Engines aren't actually wood - James is made of die-cast metal and has a bit more heft than the wooden engine. Unlike the Brio powered trains, the Thomas & Friends battery powered trains only go forward, but so far our 3 1/2 and 2 year old kids don't seem to mind too much, and the large start/stop button is easier for young kids to use. They love the working headlamp and like to watch him come through tunnels. James has plenty of strength on flat sections of track to pull pretty much any length train, but does struggle a bit on hills, though will make it up and over without too many cars. James doesn't work well with the Thomas & Friends switching track (the kind that has a working red switch to make the train go straight or turn) - when set to turn, James always ends up going off the track. However, I think that is mostly a problem with the switching track design, and not the train.

3-0 out of 5 stars it broke
my three-year-old somehow broke the starter.now it's just another push train.a very expensive one at that! ... Read more

Editorial Review

This motorized rescue helicopter from Tonka is sure to be a hitwith helicopter-loving toddlers. The motorized winch can raise andlower the provided stretchers (which then fit cleverly into slots onthe sides), the rotor turns at the press of a button, and additionalbuttons trigger the siren or helicopter sound. The button to turn therotor is in a perfect spot for holding the helicopter while flying andalso turns on the adjustable spotlight for night rescues. The cockpitand cabin open to insert a pilot or other characters if desired (notincluded). The helicopter contains small parts that could pose achoking hazard to children under the age of 3. It requires four AAbatteries (included). --Jay Weinland ... Read more
