Editorial Review

What's the No. 1 group dance for the pre-school set? Hint: it's not the "Electric Slide" or "Cotton-Eyed Joe." You guessed it, and so did Elmo: the "Hokey Pokey." Though Elmo doing the "Slide" would be a sight to see, he masters the Pokey quite convincingly, to the probable delight of his toddling fans. After loading his foot with four "AA" batteries, press his hand and he performs the popular jig. He sticks out both his right hand and foot, shakes his body all about, then smoothly spins in place, thanks to a rotating platform under one foot. Elmo even spices up the beat, and sporadically speeds up the action; both innovations crank up the fun factor. The only downside: he was de-plushed, presumably because of all the mechanisms needed to help him dance and maintain balance. The result, still, is an impressive performance. He's just not very cuddly. --Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars oh my gosh!!!
Can we say neverstop!! - she ran this thing into the ground!! played with it alllll the time and still does - highly recommend

5-0 out of 5 stars My todler loves it!
I bought this for my son about two months ago. And I believe I must have gotten the most durable one. My 20 month old son was only dancing with him the first two weeks, until he discover that it's more fun to squeeze him, while he shakes, then throw him against the floor or wall. So far it has been over a month, and the Elmo is still singing, dancing, and saying oops or thank you. I would recomend this toy to any one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good times for kids
My 2 year old has this and loves it. He's already a huge fan of Elmo, so I'm sure that helps. The toy itself is rather neat since it pretty much does the hokey pokey. Elmo puts in his hand in, his leg in and he shakes all about, then he turns around in a circle. Doesn't work so good on carpet, better on smooth surfaces. The sound it good and lucky for us parents, the song doesn't last too long. If you tip him upside down he says "whoopsie!", and something about needing to be turned back upright. Cute toy. My son thinks Elmo is dancing with him. ... Read more

Get ready to learn shapes, colors, numbers, letters, face parts, animal sounds, and more with Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and the rest of the Sesame Street gang! This Sing & Teach Table features tons of buttons and other interactive gadgets that prompt fun lessons for babies and toddlers, all in the wacky, weird voices of the Muppets. (Presumably, tots are familiar enough with the characters to understand all the squeals and growls.) The semi-circular shaped plastic table stands 12 inches high, not counting the waggling Elmo head that presides over the action. Children sit or stand at the table, lifting the Cookie Monster head to learn about "open" and "closed," spinning a drum for the alphabet song, or picking up a cell phone to hear The Count soliloquize about numbers. Bright, cheerful, and noisy--just what the toddler ordered. --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars We LOVE Elmo!
My son LOVED this toy.We bought it for him when he was 8 mos. old and he played with it non stop, that is, until IT stopped working. After only 3 months of use Elmo's head stopped working (that's what my son loved most about the toy was the moving Elmo). So we called Fisher Price3 and of course they would replace the item, but we would have to pay shipping and after paying $35.00 for a toy, I didn't think I should have to pay more for a defective toy.We were dissapointed with Fisher Price's lack of concern about the quality of their products. But for the 3 months it worked, my son loved it!It was his favorite!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute but Elmo's head quit moving within 3 months
My daugher LOVES this table and still plays with it, but Elmo's head is supposed to move back and forth while the music plays. She got it for Christmas and she was not rough on it at all and by Easter Elmo's head no longer moved.Other than that it still works fine and she still enjoys it.But she takes her little hand and manually moves Elmo's head back and forth and looks at him like "hey, what's wrong?"Overall a cute toy to teach about eyes, nose, ears, etc. and the alphabet.Plus good for when they are first learning to stand up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Twin daughters LOVED it!
My girls ended up with three different playtables that were suppose to be the best. THIS is the one they loved the most! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Messy clean fun...thank goodness the crayons wipe up easily
Our son is now 21 months-old and has had this toy for almost 6 months. He still insists on it every bathtime. He has learned to give Elmo a "bath" with the soap and washcloth (not included) and scribbles gleefully on the sides of the tub with the soap crayons. He even has learned to wipe the tub clean with his washcloth, saving daddy the tedium of doing it himself. My only problem with this is that it is difficult for little and big fingers to remove the crayons from the plastic "Dorothy" storage container. The opening needs to be a wee bit wider.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bath + crayons+ Elmo = FUN for my little one!
My 16 month old loves to color with crayons. When I saw this, I had to get it for her.She loves it!Elmo floats and dries up very easily. The crayon marks wash off the bath walls with no problem. The only problem she has with it is getting her tiny fingers into the little fish bowl to retreive the crayons.Otherwise this is a big hit in our house.

4-0 out of 5 stars Elmo and crayons make bath time fun!
We recently bought our 20 month old this for Christmas and she loves it. Elmo can hang from the shower head to dry, the Dorthey fish bowl has holes in the bottom to drain crayons, and it is all around fun! My daughter loves writing on the bath tub walls - what kid wouldn't? My only problem is it is hard for little ones to reach so far into the fishbowl for the crayons.. otherwise a WINNER! ... Elmo has certainly sold out. The fuzzy red Muppet is dressed up in a chicken suit, with only his red face and hands showing. The fuzzy suit is bright yellow with a white chest, orange feet, and a red comb on the hood. Push the button on Elmo's left foot and his high-pitched voice encourages little ones to do the Chicken Dance with him. His arms flap and his knees bounce up and down as he sings the lines, "Elmo wants to be a chicken, Elmo wants to be a duck" to the familiar, but annoying, tune. Press the button on his right foot and Elmo will cluck like a chicken and move his head. Note that these two actions are the only ones Elmo does; there is no volume control, repeatedly hitting a button will cause a "rap effect," and the body under the chicken suit is hard plastic, which hurts his huggability factor. --Pam Lauer ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted
Since he was an infant, our son has LOVED the Chicken Dance, and when he was 5.5 months we bought him Chicken Dance Elmo.At first he thought it was odd, but then he started to like it and we knew that whenever he was upset Elmo could get him to calm down.Eventually, at 7 months he went through a phase where he no longer wanted to be changed on his changing table.Wouldn't you know, Elmo was the the one toy that could occupy him long enough for us to change his diaper.

My BIG disappointment with Elmo is that he is not very durable. We used him for entertainment purposes only and after two months he just stoppped singing. He still clucks like a chicken if you press his foot, but when you press the other foot nothing happens (no song and dance). We thought it needed more batteries but after trying that its clear that Emlo is broken.Which is too bad since we really liked this toy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product for young kids!
I bought this toy for my neice on her 1st birthday.Out of all the awesome, expensive toys that she's gotten, this was her favorite! The best $15 I ever spent! It goes everywhere with her, and she's learned how to dance from watching and playing with Elmo.I loved this item so much I'm buying one for my baby (well actually it's for me)!

4-0 out of 5 stars Suprise hit!

Elmo may not be on the cutting edge of pop culture with this incarnation, but he still makes playtime fun. Instead of mimicking the latest hit, which always seems to drive kids wild, he sings and dances his own version of a 70s classic: "YMCA." It never dies, does it? The 13.5-inch Elmo sings out letters to a catchy rhythm while dancing what can only be described as pseudo-Egyptian. It's quite a feat, actually, to see what he does with his arms and legs: standing on one foot, bobbing his head, moving several limbs at once. His cute, familiar voice hasn't changed, either; kids can hear it with each press of his upheld hand. Required: 4 AA batteries.Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An above average toy from a picky mom
My daughter does not pay ANY attention to Elmo on television, she isn't yet (at one year old) watching Sesame Street. In stores, we have tried playing with her with the other Elmo dancing/moving plush toys out there and she has never paid too much attention- we just figured she doesn't like Elmo. Then for Christmas she got the Elmo learning table and played with it daily, along with the plush toy that comes with it. She still didn't seem too interested in Potty Elmo or Chicken Dance Elmo or some others, so we didn't think she'd be crazy about this one.

Wrong assumption! My daughter LOVES to dance and she dances along with this E-L-M-O. She'll crawl right up to him and sway and bounce to the music. She's still a bit young for this toy but yet she plays with it when we press his hand and get it started (she hasn't yet mastered the art of squeezing his hand to make him dance). This toy is not her favorite but is well made, Elmo dances without falling down, and my daughter does like this toy and will spend time throughout the day be-bopping along with it. I'd recommend it especially if your child is older and likes Elmo!

A friend's daughter is over 2 years old and likes Sesame Street and is scared of the toy when it moves so you never know....my 1 year old is fine with it, and not interested in Sesame Street on tv. Go figure.

And finally, my own opinion, this toy is just cute! And durable. I don't see where it's educational, just fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does ELMO really know how to spell??
The chear part of the ELMO dolls preformance sings E N M O instead of ELMO.Pretty sad expecially when your 20 month old is learning how to say his ABC'S Something should be done about this. The part when the doll makes the letters with his arms is really cute.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Elmo Hit and Only Paid $7 at WALMART
I was going to purchase this for my soon to be 2 year old for Christmas but decided to wait.Every time we go to a toy store she would run right to ELMO and press his hand. She would even spell E-L-M-O at home everytime she saw a commercial or played with one of her other ELMO toys. She loved it, but I hated to spend (...) on yet another ELMO toy.Well I just purchased it for (...) on clearance at WALMART.She hasn't stopped playing with it and dances right along with him.It is very cute (a little annoying after a while for Mom and Dad).Well worth it for a bargain price of (...). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My son , Josh loves this....
he got this toy for a Christmas gift from his cousin. He plays with it every day.The music is not to loud and it is portable enough to take with us on the go!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of FUN
I bought four of these for my daughter, Reese, and her two cousins, and her little friend. They all LOVE Elmo's piano! It keeps them busy for what seems like hours.I couldn't be happier with this product and it's durable too! They pounce on it, bang on the keys, turn it upside down, and Elmo still keeps talking and playing music. Thanks for having such a great gift idea!!

4-0 out of 5 stars My 21 month old loves it!
We got this as a gift from a friend with a daughter the same age as ours. I didn't think she would like it but she absolutely LOVE IT! It is the only toy that she plays with everyday. She got it at 18 months and still plays with it daily! She needs help but is getting better and will soon be able to play with it on her own.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too difficult for a 2 year to use and it has a funny smell
I was really disappointed with this toy.It looked so cute in the package. It is too hard for a two year old to use.I even have some difficulty plugging the pieces into the holes.

It also has an odd smell - almost unbearable.I'm wondering if anybody has had the same experience.

3-0 out of 5 stars I'd recommend it!
I bough this for my son for Christmas. He is 22 Months old and if a hugh Elamo fan.He really loves the toy. However, I have to agree with the other review that this toy needs constant supervision. It is tricky for little hands and fingers to actually put the parts in the little holes. So we save this toy toplay with when Mom or Dad can play too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent toy but you have to rig the volume or it's QUIET
This is an excellent toy and my daughter loved it so much in the store that my husband bought it for her when he was out alone with her. He threw away the packaging and didn't notice the insert that says when you pull the tab out of the back, the volume will get softer- the louder volume as heard in the store is just for demonstration, and the quieter volume when you pull the tab out is to protect children's ears- it's NOT a defect, Fisher Price designed it this way.

The problem is that once you pull the tab you can BARELY hear the phone. It's so quiet that the room has to be very, very quiet in order to hear it- if the television is on in the background or the dishwasher etc- you can't hear the phone. My daughter still seemed to love it but it drove me nuts because it really is EXCESSIVELY quiet to the point of it being very hard to hear at all. Let me add that my daughter does NOT play with this toy by putting it up to her ear- it is at arm's length when she plays with it. I "fized" the volume back, and if she ever stars to put it to her ear like e real phone I'll un-fix it. But trust me, this phone is barely audible even in a quiet room when placed up to your ear- I am all about protecting my baby's ears but this is TOO QUIET, Fisher Price!

Like many others here before me, I cut a small strip off of a flexible paper-thin plastic card- I used an old Sam Goody Replay card. You can also use the original tag you pullled out of the toy if you still have it. What you need specifically is a thin strip of a card that is plasticy yet thin so it will fit through the little slot on the back of the phone in the top left area. If the card is not flexible it will not weave back through the hole (i.e., I don't *think* you could use a credit card and I'm not sure something xompletely paper would work....ideally find something soft and plasticy but flexible- it has to be strong enough not to scrunch when you stick it in the hole or it won't go, but not too hard or it....wont' go!)

This fixed the phone back to the way it originally was, and my daughter loves it. I agree- Fisher Price should have put a volume control on the phone, or they could have just made the phone a LITTLE less loud but not NEARLY as quiet as it gets when you remove the tab.

I recommend watching, especially younger babies, how your child plays with this phone and if they DO keep it pressed to their ears like a real phone, maybe considering leaving the volume alone. But if they play with it like my 1 year old, in their lap, then fix the volume so it sounds like all their other toys- after all, all my daughter's other toys are loud enough to be heard. Over and out!

1-0 out of 5 stars No good.
I got this phone for my son but you can barely hear it.I was at Walmart trying it out at lunchtime and it sounded clear and loud and great. Then I brought it back to my office after lunch and was going to call some of the guys and joke around it but you could barely hear the phone.I figured it was broken. Then I saw on the printed instructions that it says the volume is lower when its taken out of the package.I cant believe Fischer Price couldnt take the time to write that on the OUTSIDE OF THE package. My son can barely hear it and its really not worth the money.
One good thing did come out of this, I wrote a complaint letter to Fischer Price and they sent me a check to use towards another toy in the amount I paid for the elmo phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fixed volume and is now more fun!
I also had the same gripe about this toy when I bought it. At first my daughter was in love with this toy at the store but as soon as we got it home and removed it from the package Elmo's phone became more like a hearing test for hawks. It was very low. Still she played with it and loved it but has slowly lost her interest over time since she can't really hear Elmo's voice that well. I just followed Mrs' Fix It's directions (a few reviews back) to get the volume back up and it worked!! So if you have the toy I recommend doing this for volume and if you want to buy it I would like to warn you that the volume is very low. If you do buy it, cause it is a great little toy and get sick and tired of not being able to hear Elmo then try Mrs. Fix It's trick. Note!! Be forwarned... Listen to the volume it's set at IN the packaging and decide if you want it to be that loud cause that's what it will sound like if you tinker with it. ... Read more

You get what you pay for in this case.My daughter was given this as a gift a year ago and it has been a dust collector ever since. She hates this ELMO because is falls over.He should be called clumsy ELMO.My daughter has the Hokey Pokey ELMO too and that is a 10+.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lil Jay's mommy and her thoughts!
Well my son has SO MANY elmo toys that dance and sing and I must say this one is GREAT! Ours has never fallen over unless my son pushed him and the song and dance are TOO CUTE!! It makes everyone wanna get up and dance my 1 year old gets a kick out of it and even shakes his arms like elmo! The limbo stick is quite irritating though I would think they would have attached it to elmo! Its basically pointless my son chews on it but thats about it! Overall this toy is GREAT just minus the limbo stick!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun to play with........once!
Cute, but my child can't do much with it. She followed it around while Elmo sang and did the limbo a couple of times, after that, it was put in the closet. Cute but not for long. ... Read more

"La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la, Elmo's World." Greeting children and parents alike with the theme song to the popular Elmo's World show, this Elmo plush looks and sounds like the real deal. Adorned with soft red fur and a bright orange nose, Guess What? Elmo is equipped with a built-in clock that activates a new conversation topic every day for seven days. When Elmo's hand is squeezed he'll talk about popular topics from the Elmo's World show, including birthday cakes, bugs, balls, hats, bananas, crayons, and shoes. He can say over 200 phrases in all, and whenever Elmo sings or talks, his mouth moves up and down. Measuring a little over 20 inches from the top of his head to the bottom of his furry feet, Elmo is soft enough to cuddle with, but you can feel a solid plastic body inside when you squeeze his tummy or chest. Requires three AA batteries (included) for operation. --Chris Burns ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
This toy would have great potention to be both fun and educational, if only you could hear what elmo is saying. The sound of the jaw moving covers every word coming out of elmo's mouth rendering the toy useless. As a result my son (19 months) would rather play with his other elmo doll, that says not a word but it great to cuddle with. And this elmo just sits on a shelf rarely touched.Don't waste your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality...darn
Despite the poor reviews on this item, I bought it for my then-12-month-old who loves Elmo. Out of the box, when Elmo would talk, his mouth would "click, click, click" and get stuck. This is exactly what all the reviews I had read stated. Amazon promptly exchanged it for me, and the same happens with our new one, although not as badly.

It's still a cute toy in terms of educational value. And I like that it can sit up on its own. But it is a very hard "stuffed animal" and not so great for cuddling.

If you're a huge Elmo fan and feel you must have this, know what you're getting in terms of reliability and quality. At the clearance price, I'd say it's worth a shot. I gave it a rating of 2 overall because it consistently fails to perform as designed.

4-0 out of 5 stars the best elmo on the market!
i bought this item for my one year old daughter.although it's a little sophisticated for her, she loves elmo and we play with it together.he says lots of fun phrases and is a much better looking elmo doll than most of the others i have seen.i have but one complaint, i thought the way elmo moves his mouth when he "speaks" was a great feature but it occasionally sticks and makes a loud popping noise.it scares the baby, so she doesn't play with it as often as she might otherwise.overall, i still think it's great and she'll have even more fun with it when she gets a bit older. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars We Love ELMO!
We bought this for my daughter, the household Elmo lover.he became an instant hit because 1)he's ELMO! 2) he SINGS!My daughter was really really sick at Christmas and having this Elmo close to her really made her day!Yes, hearing him sing how much he loved us constantly during the 20 minute drive to Grandma's was a bit much for Daddy.my son and i were singing with Elmo though!Elmo has several features in his furry little body. you can squeeze his free hand to hear him sing "Elmo Loves You" (to the tune of Where is Thumbkin). You can squeeze his stomach to hear him tell you how much he loves your hugs. There is a flower in his other hand (paw?) that makes Elmo say how special you are.Elmo's voice is of average volume. He has no volume switch but he does have an On/Off switch!!Hidden in his furry back is the battery box and Elmo's On/Off Switch.Much to the delight for those parents who may need Elmo to "take a nap" for a while. (I told my daughter that once and she just accepted it) Elmo is very huggable (on or off) and the only thing that isn't is the flower in his hand.Moving the petals sets the flower off talking so if Elmo was singing before, he will now start talking about the flower. My daughter is two and she has learned how to hug and play with Elmo without disturbing the flower.I highly recommend this Elmo for ANYone who loves Elmo!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love Elmo
My daughter got this toy from her grandma and she LOVES IT. She carries it EVERYWHERE with her. I read the previous review and yes the flower is very sensitive but there is an on/off button above the battery compartment in the back for parential relief.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute, But Activates Too Easily
This Elmo has a catchy toon, but the way you make it activate is just not practical. The flower is so sensitive it is constantly talking when you pick up the toy, interrupting the singing feature (activated by squeezing the hand).

PROS
- Very catchy song (activate by squeezing the hand)
- Popular Elmo Character
- Sorta teaches child that hugging is a way to express "love"

CONS
- Flower is hard plastic, not making it a very "huggable" toy
- Flower is very sensitive to touch, so it activates often and interrupts other features on the toy.
- You are supposed to be able to "hug" Elmo to activate another feature... however because the flower is in the way (and will activate if you touch it) you must instead squeeze Elmo's tummy in order to activate.

TOY IS NOT VERY EXPENSIVE, SO IN SPITE OF ALL THE "CONS" IT'S WORTH A LOOK IF YOUR CHILD ABSOLUTELY LOVES ELMO. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love Happy Birthday Elmo
My 2 year old loves this Elmo.He gets such a kick when he hears Elmo say his name and his birthday. He really enjoys this toy.

2-0 out of 5 stars this toy is a lil' bit freaky
Umm...it says happy birthday and then it's like "elmo KNOWS when you were born.."
This thing creeps me out....i wouldn't buy it for a little kid!

5-0 out of 5 stars So Cute
I bought this for a friends daughters 2 nd birthday.I was a bit worried about spending so much on this doll, but it turned out to be well worth the money. The little girls face lit up when she heard it say her name and incorporate it into songs. Elmo's voice was crystal clear and pronounced the name correctly. The price was well worth the look on the little girls face every time Elmo said her name. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Cute, But not exactly as expected
I bought this Elmo for my 2 year old daughter for easter, She is a big elmo fan and has just about all the dancing, moving elmos made. So I thought this would be perfect for her!

It is very cute and soft, and pretty big, for what I thought it would be, And it does say her name and it is kind of an unusual of uncommon name, (mia) But what it does is It pauses when it says something like Happy Easter....Mia. And that is not bad I guess, but what really bugs me is that sometimes he will say Happy easter or something else where he says Mia after his sentence, But he won't say Mia, you have to squeeze his hand again for him, so the next time he talks after the sentence all he says is Mia. So you squeeze his hand and He says Elmo Loves you. Then the next time you squeeze it it all it says is Mia. But overall I would buy her another one, Because she is a big fan of elmo, and it is very cute.

Maybe the price is a little High, (39.42 after shipping)But how often do you get your childs favorite character to talk to them using their own name?

All in all It is very cute and fun, especially for an elmo fan, Maybe next time I will get her the he knows your name pooh. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Elmo says "You're the Best"
This talking Elmo is a great toy. I bought one for each of my twins for Christmas(the Christmas Elmo and the Birthday Elmo). They love him. Their eyes light up every time he says their name. One twin had a very complicated name, but we had them program in her nick-name "Nikki" instead of her given name "Anika". They both love it...however, it is only surpassed in favoritism by the "My Own Learning Leap" that they also got, that says their names (that you program in) and rewards them with messages in your own voice. This Elmo is a wonderful toy, but if you really want to spend $30+ dollars and can't get the name you want, I would recommend the "My Own Learning Leap" from LeapFrog. Overall, I'm very satisfied with Elmo, he's a great friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars So cute that I want one for me!!
I went to the Toys'R Us store so that I could hear how my daughter's name would sound coming from Elmo- it's Ilianna- and I couldn't stop smiling and laughing when I heard it. I was very impressed that her name was pronounced correctly and I think this toy is great! Oh, Ilianna loves it, too! My friend's daughter's name is Merelie and they couldn't get Elmo to say it so hopefully more names will be programmed as the toy becomes more popular. Great toy, but if in doubt, go to the store and check how your child's name will sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is a great toy but...........
I got this toy for my niece.she loves it, it is very unique.I think that most kids would like it.The only reason I put but is that it is easy if your kid has a name like tom, mary , mark etc. There are some odd spellings that have odd pronunciations. You are best off to not buy this from a toys r us on line unless your kid does have a standard name with a standard pronunciation. If it is an odd spelling or an odd pronunciation, you are much better off going to a toys r us store and getting them to program it, and listen to the name as she programs it. As it was with me saying her name is margaret, she did program one as margarita. They did immediately fix it, but you are smart to use normal spellings for normal pronunciations. I hope this makes sense. If your kids name is pronounced as Gina, and you spell it like GEENAH..........write down the typical spelling it will give you a better chance of getting it right. Also there are many different personalized elmos. The generic ones do more things. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Elmo doesn't work
I purchased this ELMO for my 16 month old son as a Christmas gift.My son loved him, but didn't play with him too much initially.3 months later, my son is extremely interested in ELMO, constantly squeezing his hand and hugging him.We have not been rough on this ELMO, however, We have become very disappointed, because he does not work! We've tried new battereies, adjusting the position of the sound box, etc., but it appears that there is some kind of short in the wiring.I contacted Personalized R US, and unfortunately, they will do nothing when it has been longer that 30 days since purchase. This toy is cute, and a great idea, but for the price, I expected it to last more than 3 months.I recommend not buying it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Problems with Elmo...no response from PersonalizedBy RUs
We purchased this Elmo for our son this past Christmas, when he was 21 months old, since he absolutely LOVES Elmo, and thought sure he'd be a hit.HOWEVER, something must be programmed wrong, because in the game section, Elmo asks him to "hop like a CAT", or "run like a BUNNY", etc...the animals and actions don't match up at all.I contacted Personalized By R Us online (the only way I could find to contact them) about this problem and got NO response at all. It's ridiculous to pay this amount of money for something that's going to teach him the wrong actions for these animals. It is cool to hear him say my son's name, but I could probably count on one hand the number of times he's played with this Elmo since Christmas. The E-L-M-O Elmo was MUCH more of a hit, and a good bit less expensive too!!I would agree with the prior reviewers who commented on the fuzz factor...that red fuzz is constantly shedding...and I thought the dog was bad!Other Elmos that I'v found look more like the Elmo on TV too.Not sure I'd buy this one if I had it to do over....

1-0 out of 5 stars hands too big, fuzz comes off, not interesting for my child
Maybe my child is unusual, but she could care less about this toy.I thought she would love it and bought it for her 2nd birthday. She showed mild interest, but we found that Elmo's hands are too big for my child's small hands -- she can't squeeze his hand to make him say anything. We also found that the red fuzz comes off easily (which is more of a problem for my 10-mo-old).It was disappointing to pay so much for a toy that sits in the closet!(I'm not sure this review helps others, but if your child has very small hands, he might have trouble squeezing Elmo's hands.) ...
