Editorial Review Anyone can become a megamillionaire just like Mr. Burns with thiscollector's edition of Monopoly based on The Simpsons, the beloved,sometimes-controversial animated TV series. The rules of the game remain thesame, but the old Monopoly properties are now all Springfield landmarks, with anew monorail running across the game board. Players use tiny pewter game tokensof Bart, Homer, and other Springfield characters as they purchase stores, restaurants, and homes. Who wouldn't want to buy Krustylu Studios or theKwik-E-Mart? Instead of acquiring houses and hotels, players try to accumulate monorailstops and stations on their properties. Customized Chance and Community Chestcards offer additional sly references and cartoon drawings of the characters. The cultural references are up-to-the-minute, but the educational value ofplaying strategic board games remains constant. --Marcie Bovetz, mother andformer children's librarian ... Editorial Review This colorful chess set combines the classic game of strategy and intellect with the wacky and wonderful characters that inhabit the world of the Simpsons. Packed in an attractive metal storage box, the set comes with a fold-up playing board and a complete set of playing pieces. The pieces are all durable, and can probably handle a lot of abuse and mistreatment without being damaged. As a result, fans of the show could also use the pieces as action figures or perch them on a desktop or bookshelf when they are not engaged in a battle of wills on the chessboard. With Homer and Marge Simpson as the king and queen respectively, the chess set also features Bart (bishop), Lisa (rook), and Maggie (pawn) Simpson, as well as Krusty the Clown (knight). --Chris Burns ... Editorial Review Okay, it's not the most complex toy that's ever been attempted. They didn't re-invent the rules of the classic murder mystery game Clue, they simply reproduced it with characters, locations, and weapons from the world of The Simpsons. But that simplicity is what makes this set so much darn fun. In this version, Mr. Burns has been found dead. Marge is now Mrs. Peacock, Homer is Mr. Green, Krusty is Colonel Mustard, Bart is Professor Plum, Lisa takes the role of Miss Scarlet, and, perhaps most delightfully, Waylon Smithers, is Mrs. White. Weapons include a poison donut and a plutonium rod, while locales include the power plant and Krustylu Studios. If all these references confuse you, well, it's still a game of Clue and a great game to play. But if these references send you off into a gleeful reverie of repeated catch phrases and favorite episode memories, then you really need this game. --John Moe ... Read more Features Reviews (14)

Chalmers comes with a customized coffee mug, a telephone (which fits nicely in his hand) and a clipboard with a checklist on Principal Skinner's failings. About the only thing in the "yes" column is the "US Flag in order," but poor Skinner gets checks in the "no" column, including in the row "riot quelled?" Original voice for Chalmers is activated by putting him in the various Springfield environments.
Super-Nintendo Chalmers rocks. He always comes out with the best put-downs for Skinner and is the perfect foil for him. My fave scenes is when he going to give Springfield Elementary a full 10/10 for the first time. "I'll just put the ZERO first." He says. "And now a vertical line to indicate the 1..." Needless to say a riot tramples before he gets to. The toy itself is quite fun. So far it is my first in the World of Springfield figures. Place him in certain playsets and he'll talk. The accessories that come with him are a clipboard (with a bad ratings checklist on it), a phone and a personalized mug. They all fit in his hands and he is pose-able. Not only this but he is quite sturdy. The Movie Maniac series of toys tend to break easily but there is not way this guy will. Have fun, with Chalmers and the rest. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Editorial Review Of course, the pictures of various Simpsons characters in place of traditional dots is the main draw for these dominoes, but our favorite thing is their impressive heft. Made of heavy-duty ceramic, the dominoes make a satisfying, authoritative clack when placed on a hard surface. The set is described on the box as "super-sized" but they're really only slightly larger than standard dominoes. There are a total of 28 pieces--the standard number for most domino games--and the correct number of doublets (dominoes with the same picture on each side). The thick tin box is also a nice bonus. It's like a slimmer version of those old metal lunchboxes, but imprinted with Simpsons art and witticisms. Unfortunately, the box seems to have not been designed specifically for the dominoes, which rattle around once they have been removed from the plastic bags that hold them in place initially. Still, the set is overall, as Mr. Burns would say, "Excellent!" --David Stoesz ... Read more Features Reviews (1)

Editorial Review A decade's worth of outrageous story lines, and funny, intelligent writing has garnered a loyal following for The Simpsons--and no character on the show has been more popular than the TV family's patriarch, Homer J. Simpson. But after watching those hundreds of episodes and spending millions of brain cells remembering all that trivia, what are Simpsons fans to do with their extra time? To the rescue comes this Homer-specific trivia game packed in a handy tin case. The questions are divided into five difficulty levels, though even the easy questions presuppose a deep knowledge of Simpson lore. Players will soon discover that in the game's multiple choice questions, the funniest answer is always correct. The directions for actual gameplay can get a bit confusing, and, though the setup allows people of various levels of expertise to play together, this won't be much fun for non-Simpsons fans. Hardcore fans will have a blast just reading the well-researched questions. The collectable tin case, shaped like Homer's head, is eye-catching on a bookcase or shelf, and an included miniposter featuring some 300 characters makes for an attractive wall hanging, too. ... I recommend this game for families, for those who want a less competetive game and like looking at Simpsons characters, and as a modified drinking game at parties.
The game has little to do with the Simpsons. OK, the game pieces are Simpsons characters, and the toy money has Homer's head in place of George Washington. But the association with the show is superficial. The aim of the game is to lose all your money and junk food tokens. You do this by taking turns with a spinner and wandering around the board trying to land on squares that will unload your food or money onto another player. Sometimes you get to take questions, in this part of the game you read a question from a card and write down an answer. You then nominate another player to guess the answer. Some questions are goofy, like "What is the opposite of hamburger?". Others are personal, like "Do I ask for directions when I'm lost?" or "have I ever worked on a farm?". The questions mostly take an irreverant tone ("Would I ever try to make one of the Queen's guards laugh?"), but there is nothing offensive. There's not too much American-only content, most the questions aren't specific to the US, and some that are, such as "Do I know how a bill is passed through Congress?" (yes, actually) can easily be altered to fit any nationality. By answering questions correctly, players get to turn over one of their five character cards (if they guess wrong the questioned player turns over his card). When a player gets all five, the game ends and the player with the least assets wins. In playing the game, I found the lack of rules (you can start anywhere on the board and move pretty much anywhere) to be a minus point. As in society, anarchy equals less freedom, not more. The game lacks direction and people have too many choices -- more like chess than a fast family game. After a while we ditched the game and just read questions off the cards. Due to the lack of rules, shy players can easily avoid the question squares (though they might get questions from the spinner) so the game itself falls down as a "getting to know you" tool too. Overall I was quite disappointed. I was looking forward to a game for Simpsons enthusiasts. Instead, I found a game where knowledge of the show is of no benefit at all. You don't even learn anything about the Simpsons, really. And if I may, I'd like to take issue with the idea that Homer is a loser. OK, he's a bit of a loser, but he has provided for his family for more than ten years, and resisted the advances of both Beverly D'Angelo and Michelle Pfeiffer. How many men can say that? ... Dr. Monroe includes 4 accessories, a foam bat (really hard plastic), a diploma, a bundle of cash and a clipboard with his "notes" which is really a hilarious sketch of a very angry Homer. The details of this figure are hilarious, from his frumpled tie, glasses and zig-zag facial hair. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Action Figures

Editorial Review From the pointy haircut to the troublemaker's grin, this tough vinyl mask lets you assume theidentity of Springfield's most notorious fourth grader. Just pull on the 14-inch-tall mask,and--voilà!--you're Bart Simpson for the night. Holes in the nose, mouth, and ears help keep youcool, and two small holes in the eyes (which you can enlarge by cutting) provide limited visibility.--Paul Hughes ... Read more Features Reviews (2)
