Editorial Review

Kids will love Disney's Buzz & Beyond-styled DCR5000-B clock radio from Memorex. As fun as it is useful, the DCR5000-B offers large buttons arranged in the famous Mickey Mouse silhouette, AM/FM stereo tuning, 20 station presets (10 FM, 10 AM), drift-free digital PLL tuning, an easy-to-hit snooze button, and a choice of five different Disney Buzz & Beyond custom sounds.

The DCR5000-B's green-digit LCD screen is easy to read at 0.9-inches tall. Snazzy Disney and Pixar logos bring flashes of red to the radio's white body, which also has green and purple accents. The clock runs on standard AC power (120V, 60 Hz) and uses two AAA batteries for setting backup (not included).

1-0 out of 5 stars It's ok but the "buzz" alarms are scary
I bought this clock for my son (3years old) because he's a huge Buzz Lightyear fan... what better clock for him than one that will wake him up with "five different Disney Buzz & Beyond custom sounds" (quoted from description).

Well we got it yesterday and I was so excited to see what sounds there were for alarm... much to my surprise and disappointment they were nothing like what I expected. They are downright scary sounding -- one sounds like fire trucks or police cars zooming through the room, one sounds like it could *maybe* be Zurg from the movie but you just can't tell for sure, the other two are just beeps and buzz noises (not Buzz, but buzz like bees). The one alarm that we settled on was some quriky "cartoon-y" sounds like squeaks and bells. There isn't even an option to use a regular alarm sound (like grown up alarms). The only other option is waking up to the radio.

Another minus is that it is terribly hard to program.I'm not a high tech techie or anything, but I know how to set my vcr time, know how to program the tivo, and certainly know how to set my own alarm clock radio... I'm still not certain about how to work this clock even after pouring over the instructions.I do know that you press on the Mickey head button to turn the radio on.

Pros (which do NOT outweigh the cons):Cool looking design, battery back up, radio tunes in well and it sounds good considering it's a clock radio.

If you're buying it because it's "Buzz" don't.If you're buying it becuase of the cool colors and you need a clock radio, go ahead, but you may need to have a degree in programming to figure it out... I'd be nervous to use it without a backup alarm clock for a few weeks (before I knew all the features enough to use it while 3/4 asleep!)

2-0 out of 5 stars Disney clock
Cute little clock with nice buzz lightyear alarm sounds. Unfortunately very difficult to use.I find it very confusing and I'm a technology loving adult.Obviously didn't have kids in mind when designing the layout.Unless your child is a huge Buzz lightyear fan, my recommendation is to stay away from this one. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A good game
Toy Story was one of my favorite games for the Sega Genesis. It had some of the best graphics I had ever seen at the time, way better than a lot of other Genesis titles. The sound captures the whimsical fun of the movie, and each song fits the current scene perfectly. The game play is good, but it gets a little too tough and frusturating as you get further into the game, escpecially for a children's game. Don't get me wrong, it is still fun. If you liked the movie, you should play this game!

4-0 out of 5 stars What a Great,And Great Looking Disney Game!
First off, this game has really good graphics, probably the best iv'e seen for sega genesis. And its pretty fun.The only this is its too short, but thats if you can play it.It can get very hard to beat...That can make a long game. The only reason i would give it a four star is because it is a little short, and when you beat the game, theres nothing else to do but beat it again. You take place as woody going through many short levels like andy and sids'room, and pizza planet..and much more. Its much like the movie.Going the movie, you being woody, need to get buzz back to andys' house. If you like the movie, and like games, then i reccomed getting this! This was an experience for me to play when i was younger, and sometimes i still get an itch to play it...

5-0 out of 5 stars For once, a stellar movie to game translation!
First of all, even if you didn't like the movie, don't stop reading! This game will please gamers of all ages.First of all, its graphics are excellent for the Genesis.Next, the levels are all fun to play and have lots of variation. From racing to fighting Buzz to riding on Rex, this game has almost everything! Finally, the movie's great story is told between each level, giving the player desire not to quit during a hard level and miss any of the story.Fans of the movie will love this game immensely, and even non-fans should check it out. ... Buzz Lightyear of Star Command features the Space Ranger star himself in a battle against Emperor Zurg. Drawing from the cartoon show that was, itself, based on the movie Toy Story, the game finds Buzz exploring seven worlds containing 14 levels while interacting with real-time 3-D characters. Explore Jo-Ad, Trade World, Karn, and Gargantua with jetpacks, hover boards, and jet bikes. Defeat Torque, XL, and Warp Darkmatter with laser guns, lightning guns, and plasma bolts. It all leads up to a final confrontation with Emperor Zurg on Planet Z. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars saturday morning buzz
I bought this game for my nephew to play, but it turned out to be a little more chalenging than i thought. He had some trouble navigating buzz in the right direction and shoot at tragets at the same time. If you stay too long in one place more robots come back to attack you even after destroying them. Also, the time limit makes it hard for a slow player to finish each level. Throughout the game, graphics or film clips from the saturday morning program are shown. The presentation is almost seamless- almost, since you can tell some clips don't fit a certain game scene exactly.
Don't be confused with the Toy story 2 game. This game has no connection to the the movie with Woody and other toys. As an action game, it is not bad, ( all the worlds are 3D, eventhough the film clips are 2D). Although this game claims to have 7 worlds, it actually goes back to three previous worlds (a harder level the second time I assume).

this game would be good for someone over six who loves the tv series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best than Disney Movies
If you want a Buzz Lightyear for you, now you can have it with this incredible game. The graphics are cool and so is the gameplay. You can interact with all the caracter of the movie (like Mr. Potato Head). This game is cool and its very charged of fun. Go and get it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

For those who are looking for an entertaining experience on a par withthe last two Toy Story movies, Buzz Lightyear of Star Commandmight not be the best pickup. Not only is this title simplistic, but also itlacks the control and graphics that are necessary to forgive such gameplayshortcomings. It's a sluggish and redundant use of a popular license.

The object of the game is for players to run through levels, as they try tocatch up with bosses, whom they must fight to advance. Power-ups, such asrockets and hoverboards, are plentiful, but defeating enemies takes far too manyshots, and trying to control Buzz feels a lot like trying to steer a bus. Inother words, Buzz feels a lot heavier than he ought to, even in that oversizespace suit.

The graphics in this game are clean, but they repeat often, and the overheadview almost made us forget whom we were struggling to control. This one is onlyfor those who couldn't get enough of the PlayStation version, and need a copyfor the road. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • It's Buzz Lightyear
Cons:
  • Average graphics and difficult control

3-0 out of 5 stars an ok game
if you whant 3d action you should go some were else. if your going on a trip and you need something to do in the car or on the plane... go some were else. this is a game that i beat in an hour. the only level that is any trouble is the very last one with zerg. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! RENT IT! this is a game you play when you get bored. in order to use a wepon you have to have money but you can only have a total of five coins and if you whant to get on a jump jst or a hover bored you need to use all of it. you can only get on you jet or board for more than 2 minutes any way. the best wepon is iether the bazzooka or the machine gun. and when you fight the boss of the level it tells you what his *CURRENT* weakness is. and again RENT THIS GAME. DO NOT BUY IT!!!

good:
this is a game based off of the movie star command.

you get to fight buzz's old partner.

Bad:
you need money to get a different wepon other than the weak blaster.

there is no multi player games

you can't even turn around

4-0 out of 5 stars Buzz's mission
This game is pretty good exept level 9 it is un beatable but the rest of the game is pretty easy. In the game you race the boss through their level and if you beat the boss (example Warp Darkmatter lv. 8)you have to fight'em, if you beat'em then you advance to the next level. The graphics are an 8.5.the game is pretty good.

P.S. a code for lv. 9 is "LBVBB"

4-0 out of 5 stars Buzz's Adventure
This game is very easy and some levels are hard. You can not save your game you use passwords.Graphics are good in this game. You can fly on different things. This game is based on his new cartoon(BUZZ LIGHTYEAR of STAR COMMAND).You can regane lifes and get shields. There are 12 levels in all.You can change weapons. There are 5 weapons. ... Made just for preschoolers and early elementary students, Leap 1 Books pack lots of lessons into one engaging, interactive story. Here, Buzz Lightyear helps enhance reading and pronunciation skills; identify characters, themes, and settings; and develop memory retention. He also makes reading less intimidating--and more fun--as he leads all of the toys from Toy Story II on a mission to save their friend Woody. Just stick the included book cartridge into a LeapPad, put the book in place, and, with a parent's guidance, the LeapPad takes care of the rest. This book works with all LeapPads except the My First LeapPad Book. --Diane Beall ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great leap book
Since my little one is a huge fan of the Toy Story movies, this book was a no-brainer.When it arrived, we were not disappointed.Aside from the usual Leap Pad features that we love (word recognition, story reading, etc) the book is filled with great little games. One game in particular plays like a board game with a "spinner" or "dice".Your little one gets to pick our her "piece" and roll away! But watch out for Evil Emporer Zurg!

I give 3 stars for durability, as I will for all Leap Books, only because the book does not provide storage for the cartridge. It sure would be nice if the books had small plastic sleeves for the related cartridge. We have a number of books and keeping the books and cartridges together are a little tough. The chances of losing the small cartridges will keep my durability rating lower than 5.

Also, the 3 stars for durability is related to a design "flaw".The wire from the pen and the bottom of the book are constant fighting for space. To turn the page, without possibly bending the page, requires you to hold the wire down so it doesn't interfere with the page.Easy enough for an adult to do, however my 5 year old doesn't remember to hold the wire down all the time.50% of all of our pages have creases in the bottom of the pages...all in the same spot!

Good book, though!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo LeapFrog!
I must admit, this is the best Leap book my son owns (and he has 27!). It is a first grade book. My son is only 4 and is in preschool. This one had excellent games where they learn letter sounds, letter recognition, and the part he loved best was the game that was formatted like a board game that he could actually complete on level one. Of course there are games above his level such as making three letter words, meanings of words and such. This kept my sons attention the longest out of all his Leap books. I highly recommend this book to any preschooler, kindergartner or Toy Story fan! Again, Bravo! LeapFrog! As with all Leap books, thicker pages would be a great idea! ... Read more

When Toy Story's Woody gets behind an idea--or the wheel of a Tonka truck--watch out! Anything can happen. Andy's fire truck has been transformed into a wacky rescue vehicle, complete with fire hose (with its own holster), retractable lasso, extendable ladder, and rescue tarp. Along with his buddy Lenny and an army of plastic men, cowboy hero Woody is ready to tackle any toy emergency. Fans of the Toy Story movies will get a kick out of pushing around this 8-inch-long truck, getting into adventures with a bendable 3-inch-tall Woody figure, the circle of seven connecting army men, and Lenny (the walking binoculars). Take note: the lasso is somewhat difficult to pull out, and definitely a challenge for small hands to retract. But, on the bright side, the fire hose really squirts water. Fun! --Emilie Coulter ... Decked out in his customary cowboy hat, yellow check shirt, blue jeans, and red handkerchief, this Sheriff Woody rag doll sports a drawstring on the back to make him talk ("Hey there, buckaroo! Have you seen Zurg?"), though unfortunately the Toy Story (B000059XUT) star is a little hard to hear. Woody looks just like he did in the hit movie, with arms and legs as skinny as string beans. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
My grandson received both Woody and Jessie for "Trick or Treat"...he now never leaves the house without them, he also sleeps with them, and wants them both to wear their hats to bed...He was "Woody" for halloween and loved looking just like him! He hopes Santa will bring Buzz for his "guys" to play with.He is only 3 1/2 but has a wild imagination when it comes to these guys. His little 2 year old brother is hoping for some of the same from Santa..he may be a little to young for them, but then that is up to Santa isn't it!!

Shame we lost Woody's hat a week after we bought it.But other than that, my 4 year old loves it.Still one of his favorite toys (Buzz is another one).
